It's a regular candle run. When you run out of chevrons, the candle goes gray to indicate you can no longer gather any more. A gray candle run indicates that the uber hosting it will be doing it until you expend all chevrons

Going grey is getting enough wax for a full 20 candles

From where you left your meter at the day before, the candle will turn grey after youve gained 20 candles and your meter has reached the same amount it was at (what I mean by Full 20) (for example i leave my meter ALMOST full, so I will go grey once i gain 20 candles and the meter is at that Almost full again)
It just takes longer than an average 10-15 cr since you have no more chevrons, you're signing up for more time in grey cr than an average cr would be

being grey does Not mean you cannot collect anymore wax, it just means that it is extremely slow going past that point (i get a full 21 a day, I’m grey for a whole candle)

You stop being a moth when you have done eden for the first time and been reborn (thats butterfly stage). By then you have gained better knowledge of the game, maps finding wing lights efficiently and understanding candle runs routes, improved flying skills and have non moth cosmetics plus confidence in the ability to handle golden wasteland and avoid krill without panic
