Those are Panels/Windows. You open the Windows you want using the "Window" menu. Then you can dock open Windows by dragging them to the side column and dropping it. You know you can drop them and dock them when the blue line appears.

Probably the document bit-depth or color mode. Check: Image > Mode... is it Indexed Color or 32-bit? If so, you can't use Camera Raw Filter with those.

The Toolbar has multiple tools under some of the tool types. Different ones will appear based on which tools you've added to the toolbar (using Edit Toolbar) or which tools are active at a given time.

If you just do all of the tutorials that come with Photoshop, you'd be able to do almost anything. Technical knowledge, almost anyone with drive can acquire. Establishing your own unique "style" is the difficult part. That comes after doing a lot of different projects.

Anyways, photo-editing and pixel manipulation is a lot of fun. Just my opinion. :)

It depends purely on you needs. For basic/general photo editing Lightroom will be enough, especially if you're a photographer who edits large amounts of photos. If you are a designer or do photomanipulations, use Photoshop. These are two programs with different purposes

Well, in order to take an image and use it to "inform" a generative output, you'd need special software and the correct hardware to run it. Its not trivial and generally beyond the scope of dicussions on this server.

There are ways to do it. But you'd need a somewhat beefy GPU and some technical knowledge, i.e. the ability to install Git, Python, Torch, SD and a bunch of other things. Its not ideal or practical for most users.

Because they are quite difficult to colour correct (I have to match manually as my calibrating device doesn't work on my tablet) Having my screen and my tablet not the same colour is really upsetting when you retouch photos 🙂

I use the screen when I'm drawing which is less and less these days (mostly with Photoshop or Fresco)

I really prefer looking at my big screen rather than slouch over the tablet, and when I'm not drawing, I use the keyboard rather intensively, meaning that I cannot use it with a slanted support like a easel. I use the supprt when I'm drawing with Fresco for example, because I have all my shortcuts on my tablet (8 buttons and a scrolling wheel). However I use too many shortcuts while retouching. It would be OK-ish if I bought a specific keyboard/quick key module with more shortcuts

I think this is just coincidence. If you are running out of space on the Operating System drive (like less than 20GB of free space) you're likely going to run into problems.

No, I've always had <20gb storage. I received the same scratch disk error then, however, when I plugged in an external hard drive and it worked. Maybe they fixed that to the latest version IDK.

Well, I'm not going to argue with you about that. It's not smart to get that close to the ceiling on a hard disk, merely for general performance reasons. Regardless, the Creative Cloud app doesn't contain every version of Photoshop. Eventually, the older installers are retired/removed. Version 22.2 appears to be the oldest one I see in the CC app which was from like February 2021. But there have been a lot of changes, fixes and additions since then. If you decide to use that one, you could run into other issues. Good luck!

It's difficult to say, it depends on people. Personally, I had a very hard time adapting to the logic of illustrator coming from Photoshop. The layer system is not the same, the effects are different, there are no "filters" per se. There are things that overlap and very useful to know on one software and the other (pen tool comes to mind) but the knowledge of one cannot necessarily transfer THAT easily. The UI is quite similar in a way, so if for example you've donne all your vector work with - say - Inscape previously, you'll find more similarities between Photoshop and Illustrator than with inkscape and illustrator.

I think how the layers work is the biggest hurdle when you start illustrator coming from a Photoshop background (and of course might be the same when your initial background is Illustrator and you're moving to Photoshop)

The good thing with using both is that's there a huge advantage being able to combine the two on a single project. For me it's more about adding textures and lighting effects on an Illustrator artwork, that I do with Photoshop. (or for example converting the files for Screenprint or Riso is easier for me in Photoshop than illustrator). The compatibility makes it easy to work from illustrator layers into Photoshop.
I think you should start by the software you'll need most, for the kind of projects you plan to work on.
For example if you work on logos, branding, graphic design as a broad category, you'll be better served learning Illustrator first.
If what you do is photo retouching, digital painting, fantasy compositing etc... Then Photoshop is better to start with.

I had a conversation with someone on facebook that he said this: The statement made by Adobe or any company like Mid Journey, Stable Diffusion, Shutter Stock, ETC don’t mean anything in court. If you read the fine print, many of these companies will leave you high and dry if you ultimately get sued. Adobe provides some indemnification, but that is only for personal and small personal use. There is no enterprise version of Firefly currently.

Sure you can practice with AI, I am not against AI tools or their development, but I am against the morally unethical way literally every single AI image generator out their trains their models. Even Adobe shafts their Adobe Stock creators by unfair compensation for their work. I personally use AI to modify small portions of personal work. But using it to create majority or all of your scene is going to be problematic. If you want to use it for actual work in the future, it will pose major problems as companies cannot as of now copywrite said material aside from the aforementioned legal hurdles. If you also fail to disclose the use of AI, good luck in ever working in a creative industry again.

Also, Adobe doesn't let you use proper names, brands, etc and it won't render things that are not in the public domain. Thus, I suppose they feel that it is considered "safe" to use those items commercially. Regardless, that doesn't stop anyone from bringing a lawsuit against you. Any person can bring a case to court against any other person for almost anything. How much validity that case has is for a judge/jury to decide.

I'm trying to recreate this design for my practise. I wanted to understand how to create these (3)sections ?

Normally, what would I do is if have 2 images, i put one over the other and use a pen tool to mask the top image. So the cross line is visible between two images. Now, it appears as two sections of a poster.

But here as I can see a single black colour background, I'm wondering how I can achieve this.

@fallen drift I would suggest you to create a group for each day and a mask on each to create your 3 sections (like in the file I joined)...
Pretty simple except for the picture of dancers... I think it would be better to put the picture at the top of the layers pile and mask its contour with a soft brush to blend it with the whole design.
I kept the joined PSD file simple to reduce the size so I hope you'll get the idea and it will help.

Not really like there is a function in illustrator that allows you to "draw behind", but maybe I misunderstand what you are exactly trying to do? Could it be possible to draw on a blank layer that is placed underneath the original one in the layer stack?

This is actually a pretty successful head swap. You could try using a Camera Raw Filter with targeted adjustments to the face. And/or using a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer with a Layer Mask to only affect certain areas...

The reflection needs to be desaturated a bit to match the original. And can also be done with a Hue/Sat Adjustment, cranking down the saturation and painting on the mask so it only affects the reflection.

The best, more flexible, most extensible way is probably to train a LoRA.

Do you have the current version of Photoshop installed?

If so, ACR has a great auto-masking feature for people. Use it to generate the masks for each section of the body. Then you can adjust them individually. You can also knock down the Saturation of the reflection with a Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer and mask that so you only affect the profile in the glass.

That's part of the issue when doing head swaps / face swaps / body swaps. You have to either choose a person with the same head shape, width, etc or manipulate it BEFORE you do that swap. Most people just try to jam a different face into the same space. It doesn't really work.

Yeah, probably don't stretch it. The original wall image is 2048px wide. It should just fit inside that width. You can also scale it down (in proportion) to fit the width.

Probably not going to be able to identify the exact font from this. More likely that you'll need to just find a script font that is similar enough.
