Yeah, the image on the left is completely flattened, and the black has 'swallowed up' the pink gradient.

If all you have is the flat PNG, it would be the equivalent of baking a cake and then wanting to extract the flour back out of it...

If its something that will take me a couple mins, probably. If you're asking me to recreate something as vector graphics and its going to take a long time, probably not.

So this is an image with subtle gradations. Also, "Converting" this to SVG can mean several things. You want this bitmap traced and each chunk broken down into vector shapes? Because doing so will result in something that looks vastly different than this bitmap.

Generally, I would use Adobe Illustrator. The Bitmap Trace features in that app offer a more robust set of options. But there are hurdles to that method, e.g. price, learning curve, level of effort/interest etc. Thus, Adobe Express might be a better option for you.

After converting to vector shapes, its all anchor points, lines and fills. Not sure how you can get more "refined" than that...

With the Brush Tool active, press and hold the ALT key. It turns into the Eyedropper temporarily, click to pick the color from somewhere in the image. Release ALT. Go back to painting.

If you're referring to "font files" like .ttf, otf, etc., you don't open them with Photoshop. Fonts need to be "installed" in Windows first. Then they become available for use in applications like Photoshop.

If you're referring to this .DS_Store file, that is a file created by MacOS which is similar to a desktop.ini file on Windows. Why the .DS_Store file has an association with Photoshop on your computer, I don't know. Regardless, that file will not be useful to you in any meaningful sense.

i actually don't have an image as of yet haha. i had shared a story with him, and we spent a bit going back and forth as i tried to describe what i was looking for. the fact he offered to actually MAKE it surprised me though, as i was just hoping to get some clean-plates i could work from, and was having issues finding them on my own

pretty much what i need is just a city shot with skyscrapers, large part of the sky visible, and then that same city, same shot, same angle, but destroyed as if my an explosion or meteor or fire or the like. just utterly demolished.

i couldn't find anything that lined up online to work from, so i asked in a few dif servers hoping someone might have something prefab "oh, would this work?"

pretty much, had a dream where i was sittin in a bus chatting with the person seated infront of me, we were driving up to a large city with lots of skyscrapers (think NYC) and as the bus made a turn, something that was blocked from view by one of the skyscrapers came into sight. this massive MASSIVE deep red pulsating orb in the sky, far far above the buildings and slowly growing with each pulse. stared at it for like a minute in shock before muttering "what the heck is that..?" before it suddenly shrunk in size by half in an instant, a visible shockwave flowing off of it, visible long before it hit the ground. think all the force and destruction of a nuke, but none of the sound, light, fire, and that kinda stuff. was oddly and darkly beautiful, and i wanna try to recreate it before i forget what it actually looked like and only have my written account of it left

For me personnaly, not too empty, but more a question of composition and hierarchy. A bit too symmetrical for my taste. Also there is a discrepency in the amount of details between the font (too detailed with the texture IMHO) and the ball VS the rest of the design which would gain from a little bit more.
So for me, it's more about simplifying the font, add a tiny few details (people in the audiance, just shadows?) and moving the players and the ball around to balance the composition in a dynamic way. Maybe try playing with diagonals etc. Centering things always make designs appear static.
Try to google "dynamic composition" or something like that to see examples. Doesn't matter if it's in illustration or phototography. The principles are the same

The issue with transparent texture is that it needs something to interact, you could have the perfect effect, but all alone on a blank sheet it doesn't give it its full potential... Let me dig up something for the purpose of demonstration

See how the jelly interacts with the light, but it would have barely interacted if the light source was parrallel to the ground.

Now it's easy in 3D since the software does that for you, you don't have to figure it out

Also the effect would have been minimal if there would have been a white BG

Also things like colliding shapes into each others to mimic the squidgyness of the material

Mind it's not perfect

Sorry. It's not too minimal, but in my opinion there is too much detail in the font (the texture), just enough in the ball, and not enough in the grass and stands. I would add some more there. Also the composition is too symetrical and looks too static. You need to find a more dynamic composition

There should be no need to resize after the fact, unless you're ticking options for artboards or a very obscure thing

does your output in 2:3 (ratio) or 5:7. irrespective of dimensions? I just tested, just in case and a 5:7 export opens in 5:7, because 20 x 28 (cm) is 5:7

That's what you call a 16:9 ratio for TV or for phones for example. No matter the size of the TV or the phone, it's still 16:9.
Square is 1:1, meaning that a big square on an outside advert and an instagram post may be of different sizes, they are still 1:1

standard photos can be 5:7 or 2:3, irrespective if seen on a a screen or printed in large format

Probably not going to be easy, let's just throw that out there to begin with. But you could look around on Behance or other places for work and people with styles you want to emulate. Then try to get in touch. Ask them if they have any advice for someone who is trying to learn to create those sorts of projects.

If they seem receptive and helpful, you could ask about mentorship but I would initially just begin by asking for advice on something specific. Mentoring can be a lot of work and generally not something people will take on after one "cold call."

I would try the way you mentioned first, try making an action with GenFill, you might need to record tools so make sure you have this option enabled

is there a way that PS would be able to find text by itself in the image? do you recommend selecting the full image or only the part where the text is 99% of the time likely to be for gen-fill while using the record feature?

1. No, you could try object selection methods but I doubt automating this would be possible.
2. Selecting the whole image will make GenFill use the whole canvas and you probably don't want that. If the text is always in the same place you can quite easily target it using actions.
   However, batching GenFill would make you unable to pick the best result... Maybe try with the Remove Tool first?

Hi guys, in the last photoshop versions i could easily import avif files. It would just regularly import with transparant background if they had one. But now when i import an avif file, camera raw filter opens up and also gives the image a black background. This is very annoying because i need to import avif files daily. Does anyone else have this problem and how could i fix this without downgrading the version?

Photoshop doesn't support AVIF natively. It requires a plug-in to use that format.

Thanks! But yeah when i cancel camera raw, it just closes and it wont import the avif. I already had the plugin mentioned but it just does the same thing. Camera Raw opens and it gives it a black background. I guess downgrading is the only way or contstantly using a janky converter site.

Are you on Windows? Could just be a "Windows File Association" issue. Perhaps that file type is associated with Bridge? Tell Windows to always use Photoshop. (?)

What size is the image you're creating? A common mistake is to create an image with the wrong units, e.g. inches or centimeters instead of pixels. 2000 pixels, OK. 2000 inches (~166 feet)? That might cause problems. :)

Running Windows? Yes. Most likely. You really shouldn't ever get that close to the ceiling with Windows. Windows needs space for Virtual Memory and then also have some free space left over for the Photoshop Scratch Disk.

Ideally, you would want to put the Ps Scratch Disk on a different physical drive, separate from the disk where the Operating System is installed.
