rings that do stuff? bracers? hats? cloaks/capes/coats?
i did lvl up to 7 ( ability increase )
I'm new, I don't really know, sorry
you only get one ability increase till level 7 though, at level 4
Yush , then you have race points in strength from goliath
oh wait, your ASI from species/background is missing
do you play by 2024 or 2014 rules?
Finding this discord abit confusing š if I were say looking to join a campaign, where would inquire :)?
might be a good idea to ask in #character-discussion about what would be good equipment to keep in mind for a warlock paladin combo.
2014 , my brother says 2024 rules are 'bad' so he dosent wanna try them
alright
thanks
#find-a-game that's it? Thanks!
#looking-for-players being the specific channel
okay, still even in 2014 rules I recommend taking a feat if you are allowed. Great weapon master or Polearm master
Hm , i asked him about that , and he told me most players do an ability increase to reach max stat quicker :x thats what i did
okay well that is fine, but if you want your barbarian to really pop off, these two feat are better than increasing stats
they let you do extra stuff that is a bit fancy and helps in combat
ASI arent terrible but some feats are just better
Wait to get back to topic:
Panda you have a 15+2+2, that means you canāt have 20 strength
they have 19, dont they?
Yes, including their ASI at level 4
i have 19 so far
in strength , but also 16 dex , and i thought i can spend those points somewhere else to get more out of it
This was the original question
you dont need more dex, keep wearing medium armor
Lemme lurk here a bit
out of curiosity, which book are you getting the goliath from
20 str and 16 con would be nice, but the feats are better
Thatās for next level
live vicariously through other players.
You did, and that's what I was checking because there's a slightly different version of the goliath in VGM
Ohh ? Anything huge i should concider š® ?
No, it's just how the ASI's are assigned that's different.
So new to this whole DND . But is there a good way to find online groups for DND
There's this server's lfg channels #find-a-game
Other than that, there's things like lfg subs on reddit, sites like StartPlaying, or roll20's game search
Hello! I'm new to this game and I'm really looking forward to trying it out, but the problem is that I don't feel completely confident with my English yet. Does anyone know if games in other languages can be posted on this server?
This server is English only, but I don't believe anything in the rules would stop you from listing a game that is going to be run in a different language. As long as you make that post in English
if it helps, your english is more proper than mine, and im a writer, so, I believe in you!
hehe

Welcome to the official D&D Discord server run by Wizards of the Coast, the company that makes D&D.
If you're new to D&D feel free to check out #learn-to-play and the free basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
And feel free to ask questions here this channel or other appropriate channel (see #channel-guide)
how do I find ongoing games?
Check #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community for games and D&D servers with games
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
Just direct message the game poster or use the thread attached to the game posting to communicate interest
Hello! Im making a character for a campaign im joining in person and i wanted to ask about races
This is also my very first campaign so i wanna make sure i get my character right
Hey guys and gals. I just joined and have been in some one shots here and there but am looking to get really into it.
I looked at the poster but didnāt seem to direct me to any DMās looking for players.
We have #looking-for-players for that!
What about them?
Well i want to know what there is- i see alot of basic stuff like elves and etc but i wanna know if theres anything beyond that like vampires as an example!
Here are the species for D&D, including some unofficial options. Note: not all of these may not be accepted at all tables. https://www.dndbeyond.com/species
Also note, you can work with your DM to homebrew one if they are willing
Faerie is interesting to me but i cant view like the proper details
Yeah not everything in D&D is free (the game designers, artists, product managers, printers, marketing, and everything surrounding the running of a TTRPG game business at a global scale needs money to keep operating/pay for food on the table and roof over head).
You could take the elf species and, working with your DM, flavor it to be fairy-like.
You could also homebrew it but that definitely requires DM review and approval (reflavoring is typically easier to accomplish and get DM buy-in as it doesn't impact game mechanics)
I got the dnd starter kit Iām going to learn along with my friends :)
I have one set of dice. Does anybody have any good storage suggestions for them?
Cloth bag with drawstring tends to work well from what I've seen.
Maybe folks in #dnd-discussion or #merch-and-dice may have other suggestions
Does the race you choose matter matter in how you play? Or is it only your class
Thank you I was gonna make my own box, but I donāt know if thatās a good idea
In the 2024 updates, class and background matter more than species. The idea being to prevent "species-locking" species to specific classes because of their bonuses and also helping to emphasize the important factor of cultural upbringing on a creature mattering more than fantasy version of genetics.
So you can be an gnome barbarian without feeling like you're making a sub-optimal game choice.
hey I'm new to the server I was looking for a game
hello and welcome.. we do not host games here but offer channels to help folks connect. you can discover how to use them in #find-a-game
Hello,
I'm new on the server and new in D&D I'm looking for a game for beginner.
#find-a-game
Feel free to check through the game postings in #looking-for-players (that's games that need players) and #looking-for-community (that's other D&D server communities needing players and/or DMs).
Also make sure to carefully read the information and instructions in #find-a-game as that explains how our bot commands work to create posts in the Looking For Game channels.
Ouu perfect! Thank you so much!
I have a question: does a warlock patron have to be evil? I know there is āThe Celestial,ā but apart from that, do they all have to have some evil motivation?
No. Nothing in the rules requires them to be evil
Question. Can I get sneak attack if I am hidden and then I run up on a creature to attack with daggers?
Are you still hidden?
If not, I donāt believe so
No, I would be running out of the shadow right to the creature
Boop
But remember, if an ally is in 5ft of the enemy it still activates
Hello im new to dnd and i was wondering about cleric subclasses, i cant find anything about tempest clerics in the phb, for reference my character is supposed to be a fighter/cleric aarakocra
Yeah. I member that part. I am just new to rogue. Thanks!
Is this the 2014 or 2024 PHB? Tempest cleric isnāt in the 2024 one. It hasnāt been reprinted
hey I'm making a barbarian backup and I have a couple questions
what do the paths do?
Paths are subclasses. In short, they have different abilities in addition to the baseline barbarian ones.
ok what abilities does berserker path give?
are the two handbooks for a different type of dnd? like if i was playing with a group that normally uses the 2024 one can i not be a tempest cleric because it isnt written?
You can read about it in the free rules! https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#PathoftheBerserker
thank you
You can use 2014 content in a 2024 game but not vice versa! Of course, it's best to check with the DM; they may prefer only 2024 (or whatever) content.
okay thanks!
also another question about species can I make a dragonborn that's just a human with dragon wings? or does the character have to be like near fully draconic?
That'd be up to your DM/table. Describing things differently from the baseline expectation is usually fine so long as you don't change how it mechanically works, but again, check with your group.
ok thank you!
Okay, one more. Per 2024 rules. As a rogue with two daggers using Nick, can that apply to throwing the daggers? The dm here thinks no, but I am not seeing it say only melee.
Can only certain elements of magic be used for a certain race?
Yes!
No, thereās no limitations like that
That's what I thought. This Dm does everything per "rules written"
Likely RAW (rules as written)
We do have #dnd-rules for these sorts of questions, just FYI!
Perfect thank you!
Thanks
Is 2024 pretty much the same as 2014 5e? I hear the 2024 edition is called 5.5
I am just curious if Iām going to start playing should I buy the 2024 rules?
It's not officially 5.5; that's a community term. Both 2014 and 2024 are fifth edition.
They're not dramatically different in their core mechanics. That said, 2024 includes some updates that for many folks make the game feel smoother. Not everyone likes them, though!
You can read up on 2014 or 2024 and find a group on that basis. I prefer 2014 myself, but I know the 2024 rules do a better job of helping new folks through the learning process.
Awesome thanks
I personally prefer 2024
they're just different flavours of the same thing. they don't mix that well together. stick with one or the other unless you are okay with juggling the few things that are different.
Well, 2024 works fairly well with 2014 subclasses in my experience
So there are some aspects that can be mixed
i meant more along the lines of not having a 2014 paladin and a 2024 paladin in the same party
Yeah I can agree with that
and not having one person use the 2014 version of a spell and another the 2024 version
Iāll probably learn the 2024 edition or whatever they are teaching at the 101 campaign I paid for
I am taking a month long course on how to play I will meet Tuesday evenings all January.
I also plan to take an intro to dungeon mastering at the end of March.
I donāt know if I will be good at dungeon mastering I am creative I write short stories as a passion project but I am terrible at improvisation I am better at planning a good story rather than adjusting on the fly and I think dungeon masters need to be experts at improvisation
Nah, they donāt. Itās an important skill, but itās also something you learn as you go.
You donāt need to be a master to start DMāing
Well, you need to be a dungeon master, but you get my point
however, if you want to learn a whole bunch of stuff, by all means go right ahead. different people have different styles and need different supports
i took a few of the free classes on the Altrole discord. i dont regret that at all.
So can I put my good planning skills into dungeon mastering like plan a general campaign path and story for the upcoming week and just be prepared to adjust based on player choices?
I am pretty decent at coming up with short stories i am unpublished but more because I have never tried to be published I write stories all the time though
there's worldbuilding, there's campaign building, there's adventure building, and then there's being the DM in the session. being a DM at the table is a bit like wrangling cats. the other stuff is more like writing a story and leaving loose ends and jumping points. but it is very possible to overprepare. it depends on what you enjoy doing as part of preparation.
i've had a spur of the moment DM role thrust on me at an event where i didnt expect it. i popped open one of the adventure pdfs, read about three paragraphs of it and realized how daunting it would be to jump back and forth. so based on those three paragraphs i drew a circular citadel with some rooms jutting off and stairs to a lower floor, and made the rest up on the spot to loosely fit the bits of narrative i did read.
it wasn't perfect, but it flowed okay and they enjoyed it.
Awesome I appreciate it I will take time to learn how to play first I am excited to learn and start playing
I played some other ttrpg games about 12 or 14 years ago now it was great times I just need to learn more about dnd universe or perhaps I could learn to play and play the lord of the rings edition I love lord of the rings I read the books and play the mmo all the time
learning how the game plays is a really good foundation for it all. knowing that allows you to adjust things and keep the flow
I didnāt even know there was a dnd lord of the rings edition until a week ago
theres a lotr edition?
Well thanks again for all the help I will take this all into consideration I am on vacation for new years and just relaxing after the busy day to unwind and learn more about game I start the 101 campaign on the 6th they have a library of books so if I like it at the end I will buy rule book
make mistakes. experiment. have fun.
There is a lord of the rings game that uses dnd 5e rules i assume it is part of dnd
from Free League
I just got the audio book of exodus I plan to buy the actual book and eventually buy the rule book it is done by wizards of the coast as well
They are releasing a video game 2027 too and a second book 2026.
I would buy the rule book now but itās sold out with no plans to restock any time soon Iām guessing it will be available and popular in 2027 when game comes out
oh, and don't be a perfect DM. perfect is boring. perfect is stagnant without change. just be you instead of perfect.
Iām trying to improve on voicing characters. Itās something Iāve been trying to get better at. But I feel shy or feel like people are going to judge me So I want to be able to not feel shy and be able to feel the enjoyment of role playing. Is there any advice you can give me on this topic?
I have not played dnd but in other games Iāve played I found just taking a chance and starting small is a lot of fun I found my groups were really understanding and having a good group really helps you feel comfortable with new things
Hope this helps
to be honest, the whole voicing characters is a bit silly. and that's kinda the idea. when you really think about it, a group of people sitting around a table and throwing dice sand saying words to influence an imaginary world is pretty absurd to begin with. be silly. be embarrassed. it is weird. and that is okay, it is intended.
Okay thanks for the advice. I think understand
The best way I can think of is consider talk like a pirate day everyone know what a pirate sounds like and it is a lot of fun
Playing games and talking different is sort of like that
Want to be a grumpy shadowy rogue? Sound like you are a little frustrated with whole situation itās simple inflection that makes a big difference
and its okay to break into and out of the voice. or change the voice. regular people aren't voice actors.
Well my sleep meds are kicking in and Iām tired from partying at the indoor waterpark so Iām off to bed have a happy new year all
as a DM it is a bit more important to make sure that different NPCs within the same group sound (or at least are referenced as) different from one another so the players know who's talking. but thats just as easily done by saying who's talking.
Currently having the itch to play at the moment, but my sessions arent today, neither are there any places near my home where I can just sign up. Anyone have any activities I can do when I get the sudden itch for an adventure?
Read a book
In all seriousness, you could play Baldurs gate 3 or another open world video game or RPG
Choose your own adventure book or?
In all seriousness, BG3 is genuinely a good substitute. I second that.
hello everyone, I just got introduced to D&D literally like an hour ago.... I created my character but that's it? idk how to join a campaign or anything. si i joined thgis server hoping that someone might actually help me? idk ok im sorry
Hi sorry, Iām Nugget
If you wanna find a game as a player:
DnD beyond forums, reddit, roll20 or through this serverās #looking-for-players channel and typing /looking-for dm to make a form
Also, you can familiarise yourself with the rules with the Free Basic Rules in #learn-to-play , and get your character reviewed either here or in #character-discussion
And if in any stage of your journey you are confused or need assistance, feel free to ask any questions here. And welcome to the server! As stated before, I am Nugget.
Hello Iām Jay
Thank you so muchš«¶š»
Iām literally not familiar with anything yet, so far I only managed to create my character. Thank you for the above info though itās helpful
Iām going to need to put you on hold for a moment, Iām debating dad jokes in #non-dnd-topics
Okayš
Ok I have returned
Making a character is a very good first step. Though, if you made it on dnd beyond, maybe try sending it here for us to see if youāve done anything incorrectly?
Absolutely, would love the tiniest bit of guidance through it allš
No problemo! Came to the right place
Take your time! Even if I donāt see it, there are a LOT more people here more experienced (and smarter/more knowledgable) than me. Theyāll help ya
Heck, even people less experienced than me can help. Such is the beauty of a community.
Just remember to set it to public!
Thank you so much. Really
To do so go to builder -> home -> scroll down
Oh yes that was the first thing that I did
Smart thinking
Always happy to help
Hey Iām new to this server could someone please explain to me how it all works?
Like dnd?
No the server
Hii
Iāve played in person before just never online
HIII
Complete newbie here
Well, #channel-guide should help with that. And we donāt host games here, but we do have channels that help folks find games online.
#find-a-game has the info on how to find stuff online via this server
Thank you š
Thanks nugget you're helpful
Goooood morning afternoon evening, Wahzzup! How may I help you today?
I havenāt helped you yet, no need to thank me
But anywho, what can I help you with?
Find a game was enough
Ah, I see!
Also, reddit, roll20 and DnD beyond forums can help find a game online apart from using this server
Hello everyone!
I'm new to DnD, and to the server, so I was hoping that I can learn all that I can!
Hi here Iām Nugget
Welcome!
nice to see you again lol
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Then, make a practice character and get it reviewed in #character-discussion .
5 things to note:
Blood Hunter is not accepted at all tables as itās third-party
I wouldnāt recommend multiclassing (using multiple classes) for a beginner
You donāt start with magic items unless the DM permits it
Your profile doesnāt show a Dragonborn
I canāt see your backstory cuz of how dnd beyond works, so I canāt review it
Also, youāre extremely fragile
A +1 in con isn't "extremely" fragile Nugget
A 10 AC is
Oh, then that's "easy to hit"
is crying allowed in this server?
Which, in practice, makes you die very quick
Which I consider fragile, though I probably shouldāve specified anyway. Nice catch
Sounded like all might
Canāt stop ya
good thank you.
Also getting stuff wrong aināt a crime
ok I removed Blood Hunter
Oh dear 12 dex 10 con on a Wizard haha
no i know lol im just playing
You'd die to stubbing your toe
LMAO
Other way around, but I'm not surprised you're showing up now.
Sublime alert triggered
Its new years eve I think we can all do with a truce
I didnāt say to remove it. I said that it might not be accepted at all tables. You should be making a character for a specific campaign anyway.
This is just practice
Nugget's right
oh no i just added it because it was available
i didn't really want a second class. im just a wizard
Good morning
Whatās on my right?
Eveninā
DDBeyond shows all theoretically available content, but it's important to check the rules what is actually available to level 1 characters
And what your DM allows
the new year
Looking at the sheet, as a wizard I would also focus more on your wisdom rather than strength
wise suggestion
Oh yeah good point, that Wizard must have had a 8 pack, most ripped Wizard I've ever seen
Wizards are meant to be squishy tbf
Did you mean to say intelligence?
And stand in the back line
RIGHT? like we strike and just disppear idk or turn into a tree
15 int is usable, wisdom is at 14 which is a bit too high imo
8 str 13 dex 14 con 15 int 12 wis 10 cha
+2 int +1 dex for bonuses, you're welcome
Yeah I was confusing the wizard priority attribute for the clerics
Makes sense.
Wizard's main stats are int and con anyways, you can even ignore dex if you pack mage armor but more ac and initative never hurts
alr done. thanks
Bottom line though, a wizard doesnāt necessarily need strength
Wiz can be deceptively hard to take down, they don't have to be squishy at all
Key word ānecessarilyā
They don't have to be even at level 1, just that they are also just standing there being mostly useless as a result if they're remotely saving their own skin
(Don't spend all your spell slots on shield/absorb elements at level 1 please)
Everyone is. I love the drama of level 1. Everyone is scared of anything with a pointy end.
You say that, but I have a player who just goes head first into anything without a care in the world, and somehow theyāve never died
Luck sometimes just works out
I want some of that Rogueās luckā¦
Got focus fired once as an Ancestral Barb and I think I was left at 20% hp after turn 1 by taking hits for everyone
oh as for the backstory
I respect that
idk i couldnt get creative
Tanks are nonsense
Echoes was born in a remote mountain village, a place where life was simple and ordinary. From a young age, he sensed there was more to the world than what others could see, a hidden layer of wonder and power. As he grew, he discovered he could wield magic, a gift that terrified the villagers. Believing him to be a demon, they banished him from his home.
Alone and without a family, Echoes found a new home in the wilderness. He learned from the trees, the animals, the streams, and the winds, absorbing the lessons of nature itself. Over the years, he has travelled far and wide, uncovering secrets of the universe, mastering his magical abilities, and gaining knowledge about the world. Though he walks among civilizations, his heart remains tied to the forests and mountains that raised him, and nature is the family he never lost.
That sounds like a Sorcerer backstory if anything
Sounds like a Druid, but wizard isnāt wrong h-
Or sorcerer
But itās fine. Just missing a backstory motivation
I think it's a pretty unique backstory for a wizard, I like it.
Ditto.
yeah it tends to be more like a Druid because of the nature and all, but I didn't want my character to be that exactly?
yup that's out of the image now
As mentioned before, whatās their motivation to travel and explore? To adventure? To get stuck pushing a pull door? To slay dragons?
ok now I wanna try playing. I'll go find DM? idk
Makes sense. And as a wizard you could then focus on those spells that are a bit more nature themed, or simply flavor your spells to be that. For example, the mage armor spell could be like roots covering you, giving you protection.
Arcane vines and roots that wrap around your body and deflecting blows does sounds cool
Hello yallsš
Goooood morning afternoon evening!
i don't' know????š
Then you know what to do next!
wait im questioning my own life now. why do i exist
thanks
mhm i guess
Figure that out for practice, then start looking for a DM.
oh i get it, maybe to find people like him and like guide them? help them? and maybe create like a cult or a school for that
Actually, once you join a game you'll have an easy time answering that, because usually there is a hook included in the adventure.
Why do you exist? Well if the campaign is called "Rise of Tiamat", you probably exist because Tiamat needs punching.
And they need to get stronger and make connections, yup that works!
ok ok ok
Challenge yourself by being a Cleric/Paladin of Tiamat in a campaign about thwarting the cult of Tiamat's plans
Without jumping ship to the other side
Now, Echoes seeks to find others like him, individuals born with a spark of magic hidden within. He dreams of gathering them, teaching them to understand and control their powers, and guiding them away from fear and prejudice like he once faced. He envisions a sanctuary where these gifted individuals can belong, learn, and grow together, a place alive with the hum of magic and the wisdom of ages. In time, he hopes to shape this haven into a close-knit community or even a secretive cult where members support and protect one another, sharing knowledge, honing their craft, and standing united against a world that might not understand them.
alr, should I find a DM now?
How familiar are you with the rules?
Learning the rules is both needed to play and increases your chances of finding a game
Granted, you likely could learn the rules while finding a game cuz it usually takes a bitā¦
Either research the rules a lil more or start looking, up to you
Happy to help! If you need any more help, feel free to pop in again.
yup sure
Been nice chatting, now gonna go see some fireworks!
ouuuuu enjoyyy
(Itās in 30 minutes but still)
i leave work in 2 hours. im excited for you regardless ok.
Hi excited for you regardless ok, Iām Nugget!
the amount of times that i got this message directed at me...
and because of my age too š¤”
also the niffler part?
no unfortunately not that
(jk jk)
Greetings, senior
hi
Hey what's up yall
Ahem. Let's keep things appropriate and generally on-topic.
Oh sorry
If you're new to D&D we have resources to help get you started: #learn-to-play and the free basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
Feel free to ask questions as you run into things
I honestly joined the server to ask for help with creating a blood hunter character
So this class? https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/357975-blood-hunter
It's not a standard D&D class (third-party homebrew) so you'll need DM permission to use it in their games.
So you have your class picked, just need a species and background.
Happy new year everyone
Is there anyone who I can talk to to help me learn DnD? I tried reading and looking at the info I am just having a hard time understanding it.
Feel free to ask specific questions but the reality is there's so many folks joining the server and we just don't have time and bandwidth to teach folks one on one.
You can ask questions here, but most folks here donāt have the time nor the incentive to do one on one tutoring.
Yo thatās what I said!
Or thatās what you said
Yep! Nugget of Truths speaks truth!
If you find a DM, they may be willing to teach you. But finding a game without knowing the rules is fairly difficult (itās already not the easiest just finding a game as is, it usually takes a bit)
Thank you guys, I will see if i can find someone to help. My learning style is def not reading and is more doing then anything š
And something to keep in mind is that you don't need to know all of the rules from the get-go
Most of the game is you telling the DM what you want to do, and the DM telling what happens, or asking you to do something, so as long as you know what is and how to make a skill check, saving throw, attack roll, and know what advantage/disadvantage is, you should be able to know how 90% of the game works and what your character can do using your sheet š

This is the DnD server so yeah
can a cleric have the DM as their god or smth
Not typically as thatās a bit meta
so you mean it happens? how does it work?
normal?
Although that's a common meme on the internet, its not typically accepted in actual play. Gods are a part of the world and the story, so they shouldn't be references to anything in real life
I donāt know - like any cleric using their features I guess. Iāve never played like that or been in a game with that.
Is there any parties I can join, if not how can I find a party to play with?
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
If a spell says make a ranged spell attack does the ranged part have any significance? because Dex is used for normal ranged attacks with bows and strength is used for swords and axes but spells use spellcasting ability modifier
You would use your spell attack modifier, not dex.
But as it's a ranged attack, close targets and prone targets would create disadvantage.
Close being within 5 feet/melee range.
Oh so that makes much more sense
There are plenty of rules differences between ranged attacks and melee attacks, and those differences still apply even for spells, but this is probably the one that comes up the most often:
Ranged Attacks in Close Combat
Aiming a ranged attack is more difficult when a foe is next to you. When you make a ranged attack roll with a weapon, a spell, or some other means, you have Disadvantage on the roll if you are within 5 feet of an enemy who can see you and doesnāt have the Incapacitated condition (see the rules glossary).
And I take it something like ice knife is the same (using strength)
what do you mean by "using strength"?
Yeah I realised I misworded it
Ice Knife is a ranged spell attack
Ice Knife is a spell, not a weapon. It will still use your spellcasting modifier
I just remembered it off the top my head didn't realize it was ranged
Hello guys I'm new and I'm trying to learn, correct me if I'm wrong but multiclassing is official right ?
Very much so
Multiclassing is officially supported - see https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character#Multiclassing
Thank you, I appreciate it !
I will note that if you're new to D&D, it's probably better to not multiclass as multiclassing adds more options/complexity to your character
Thanks bro
At least not at first
I see but in a way if I do it at first I will learn certainly more hardly but so I will know such complex options so I can face every situations
In the 2014 version of the Player's Handbook, multiclassing was presented as an optional rule, and whether or not it was allowed in a game would be at your DM's discretion. But it was very widely adopted, and most people treated it as a completely normal part of the game. In the revised 2024 version of the player's handbook, it was no longer presented as optional. It was included in the base rules or the game
Or you end up confused how what your features do and bog the game down.
Also you have the rest of the D&D adventuring party to back you up - you should not ever be the one and only solution to the challenges your party may face in a D&D game
does multiclassing still have the ability requirements in the 2024 rules?
Yes
Of course it takes part in the interesting part of D&D, the solidarity!
i find it weird that you can pick a starting class without any sort of ability score requirement, but picking a multiclass has a minimum
You have to be level 2 at a minimum to even multiclass
I chose multiclassing due to my character's background
So you do have to have the ability scores to be able to do it.
Reaching level 2 isn't that long isn't it ?
which reminded me I should probably make a barbardrumonsorwizranpalclerfightroglock in BG3 in 2026.
... we don't know your DM or the kind of campaign/game they're running
Multiclassing isnāt necessarily a way to āface every situation.ā Itās a mechanical decision that that has wide impacts on how your character functions.
The reason why itās not recommended to newbies is only partially because of the complexity of the multiclassing rules; itās also because the components need a good familiarity with the base classes, or at least a good idea of what synergies youāre going for
You got a point
but you can right out of the gate create a barbarian with a STR of 8, DEX of 8, and CON of 8. there's nothing that says "you can't pick this class if you have less than X in the Y stat".
On multiple levels as well.
- What stats you have
- What classes youāre multiclassing
- How many levels in each class and when
Etc
It is not the way I meant it, I don't wanted to say "face every situation" but I just wanted to be able to use a weapon with the monk class
Monks can already use weapons
Oh hum sorry I read but I didn't see it I'm surely blind
Itās one of their level 1 features, Martial Arts:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#Level1MartialArts
They canāt as effectively use every weapon, since they donāt have proficiency in every weapon. Multiclassing to gain proficiency wonāt change that, since such weapons wouldnāt qualify to be a Monk weapon normally anyway
I'm definitely blind
Ohhhh ok thanks I thought because they don't have any proficiency they couldn't use any weapon
Oh wait I think I misread
Monks do get proficiency in a few weapons, detailed in the Core Monk Traits table
All simple weapons + martial weapons with the light property
Ok thanks
I need an intro to dnd, not like a video but like pms (no vc not got mic), can anyone help w that?
Welcome! The best place to start is with the free Basic Rules, linked in both this channelās pins as well as in #learn-to-play . Feel free to read through at your own pace and ask questions here along the way.
I recommend making a practice character as you read through. You donāt have to read the whole thing, but I do recommend at least the first 2 sections āPlaying the Gameā and āCharacter Creationā
I need help with the sheet..
like the character sheet
What about the sheet do you need help with?
like most of it, as Im new i know some stuff but like traits idk, and some like features and basicallty most the sheet..
and i dont know what hit dice is
I am a druid halfling
Hello!! We're new here!!
Hit Dice, or Hit Point Dice are a special resource. They serve 2 main functions:
- Determining your max HP
- As an expended resource for regaining HP during a short rest.
You have a number of hit dice equal to your character level. The size(s) is determined by your class(es).
The full info can be found in the Character Creation section of the Basic Rules here in Step 5:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/creating-a-character
so i roll a dice for myt max hp?
We've played DND a few times, but still learning it!! Also gonna go reread the rulesss.
is this 2 people on 1 account?
We're a system!
Oh ok!
One person, multiple alters!
Yes and no. As per the character creation rules:
- Your HP at level 1 is equal to the max result of your hit die + your Con modifier
- Your HP at level 2 and above is equal to either one roll of your hit die + your Con modifier or a flat value determined by your class + your Con modifier
Same link and step as above will give the full details
sorry i need dummy languasge whats a hit die and a con modifier
Hit Die = Hit Point Die, they mean the same thing
I don know what a hit point die is š
I explained it here:
#dnd-newcomers message
Your Con modifier is the modifier derived from your Constitution score that is normally applied to d20 Tests involving Constitution
sorry im just going to leave i dont understand dnd I might play like a beginner one with none of that and just creativity lol
sorry for taking so much of your time š
I would suggest reading through the Basic Rules at least š
No problem, but yeah the BR answers most of your questions and leads you through the foundational stuff
Ill do it then but if i dont understand i might leave..
Up to you! Remember weāre always here to help answer any questions!
wherea re the BR?
Theyāre linked in this channelās pins as well as in #learn-to-play , otherwise here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024
Iād start from the first chapter āPlaying the Gameā and working from there. As you read through more and more of the character sheet will make sense
thanks!
Np!
Sorry this is too hard to grasp, ill stay in the server and try watych some videos and try again in a month or 2!
thanks for the help tho!
Hi, I'm still kinda new to the D&D scene. I've played a few sessions with my bro-in-law and his group but due to the travel distance I was unable to keep playing. I have joined this server to see if there are any people that play online and are welcome to newcomers that I could join
If youād like to use this server to find a game, check out the instructions in #find-a-game !
thank you
Hi?
Welcome!
Hi
Can someone tell me how combat works?
So you came from watching stranger things?
Or knew it existed
No Iāve always wanted to play it but ofc not one of my friends, neighbours or classmates do
Oh well that's my case too
Also im here after watching stranger things
When I discovered it by watching stuff on the internet I was overjoyed and tried to search for campaigns
But I realised I LIVE IN SAR HONG KONG AKA CHINA SO NO ONE BASICALLY PLAYS HERE
plus I have no idea where to buy a set but that wonāt help because no one plays here anyways
True
Stranger things only reminded me of how much I wanted to play it
You can play with folks online!
I DONT HAVE A SET AND THAT SUCKS
You don't need a set to play.
then how?
I don't have friends and playing offline is way better
Epic!
Im making my own set lol
But can I not reveal my voice AND FACE?
you can go on D&D beyond to create a character sheet and they have an option to use virtual dice
Not everyone can play offline, so I'm pointing out another option!
Because Iām personal on that
Same
Oml YIPPE
I just need to be in a beginner friendly campaign nowā¦
It's pretty common for tables to use voice rather than real-time texting, though cameras may or may not be optional.
The fact that I cant use it is crazy!
And read the rules ,and yes Iām aware that demogorgans and vecna are not the only
Villain Iām not a stupid clueless stranger things fans
For games that take place entirely through text, we call that play-by-post games (PBP), which are rarer, but they are out there.
Combat works off a fairly simple loop. When the DM determines combay begins:
- The position of all participants is determined
- All participants roll initiative
- All participants take turns in initiative order, starting from the creature that rolled the highest initiative
- A new round starts when everyone has taken their turn, starting from the first person again.
See here for the full rules:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game#Combat
Thanks
That I learnt from watching campaigns
So does anyone have a discord server for a campaign?
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
Follow the bot post and read through the information in #find-a-game to learn about using the server's Looking for Game/Group channels.
Only the ones in #paid-looking-for-game do. Plenty of others will not.
Paid games do exist, but plenty of others do not. Iād reckon the wide majority of games out there are free.
Whatās the different between community and traditional? Is traditional irl or smth?
A community game is one with multiple DMs and parties. A traditional game is usually one group of players and a single DM.
#looking-for-players is where DMs advertise their games. #looking-for-dm is where players post in the hopes of being invited to a game.
Thanks
So uh if I can make it easier who is a dungeon master here? That is a traditional game
Because the look for dungeon master seems like the same guy trying to find one but no one is
Poor monodrone
If youāre talking about Monodrone thatās the bot that handles posting in that channel
Youāll see the person making the listing pinged at the beginning of the post, and then you can click the thread below the post to respond to the listing
No way to know. Frankly, I think you stand a better chance of proactively replying to posts in #looking-for-players rather than hoping to be picked. If I were searching for players as a DM, I'd let them come to me rather than trawling through hundreds of other posts.
The instructions are in #find-a-game!
Iām stupid
In general there are a few ways to increase your chances of getting into a game:
- Having a better familiarity with the rules
- Being able to play at the listed times, or equivalent times if youāre in a different timezone
- Applying to a game whose style matches one youād find engaging (e.g. a combat-focused game if you like combat a lot)
I MADE ONE
1.il read the rules in my free time soon and make a new notice
2.well Iām normally busy so that sucks
3.i really donāt care what style it is. So that helps
If you have a busy schedule, you can look for one-shots (adventures that take only one session to play) or search for play-by-post games, which are usually asynchronous (in other words, people post what their character says/does when they have time, rather than at a specified time).
Also check your local game stores for Adventurerās League
They're not US-based, so I left that out as an option.
Are one offs a good way to start getting involved in dnd before joining a campaign?
My local game cafe has one offs every week both a regular one off for $15 and a mystery one off for $20 (I donāt know what the difference is lol) and once a month there is a one off of lord of the rings dnd edition
I am thinking of doing these for a while before joining a campaign

Hello!!! I've never played dnd before, but I really want to try it out! I'm a little nervous and shy so I have no idea how to start
Hello and welcome! We all start in a similar fashion so no worries.
If you scroll up a couple of posts you will see some links. Things like the basic rules are a good place to start learning.
Any questions you have you can ask here.
Ofc not! I love long stories!
I'm saying that if you don't have the availability, a long-form campaign may not be easy to find!
I mean yeah, what I most wish for is irl friends who I can play the same story and every time we have a quest and it will continue for ages.i just really hope for like 5 people sitting on a table playing together with actions and bad voice acting lol
I was wondering what would you say is a good way of familiarizing myself with some lore and the world of dungeons and dragons before starting to play?
I could try baldurs gate 3, neverwinter the mmo, watch dungeons and dragons movies there are a few, or possibly read the legend of drizzt series
I am rather unfamiliar with a lot of dungeons and dragons. I played Star Trek and dragon age ttrpg games because I was familiar with the worlds they are from.
Do I have to have a good grasp of dnd to be able to play and understand whatās happening or is it like a typical high fantasy world where you just need to know itās fantasy?
There's multiple settings. Baldur's Gate and the kind you've mentioned are specifically Forgotten Realms.
There is a wiki for that, and also the Heroes of Faerun book that serves well to explain that.
You technically just need to know itās fantasy.
The lore of the most popular official setting, the Forgotten Realms, is vast and old. Reading up on some important figures or areas might help but isnāt necessary. Many other official settings are somewhat the same. If youāre a lore junkie, most official settings have their own dedicated wiki.
The average game wonāt run an official setting 100% lore accurate. Canon is somewhat flexible to adapt to the game your table runs. Many DMs will even use their own custom setting, of which Iām sure theyād appreciate you having an interest in their lore
Not sure if that's exactly what you meant, but just so you're aware, there are significant AL communities in a number of non-US countries. Though I can't guarantee all of them run through game stores :) Last I heard from the Singapore folks, they tend to avoid them.
also a decent online AL scene
Awesome thanks everyone I am looking forward to starting and Iām sure the 101 campaign will teach me a lot of basic stuff about what to know story wise and not just the rules.
I think Iāll ask to learn how to play some harder to play classes like a wizard class (something magical anyways) and a rogue because since Iām paying to be taught I might as well learn how to do harder stuff from the start then if I want to play easier class I should be able to pick it up easy enough
Wizard is honnestly fairly straight forward, the only complecated thing about them is needing to read and understand your spells and when to use them
Yeah Wizard has a relatively simple ābase kitā where if you take a few staple spells youāre pretty much good to go. The complexity comes from all the other spells that make the class so customizable
it is probably, by class features, mechanically the simplest class out of all of them; all the complexity is just spells
Awesome I do like idea of being able to use magic in creative ways (assuming what Iām thinking is allowed) say there is a lake and you need to get up a ledge you could freeze the water near the ledge and be able to climb easier
There are a few spells that could do that. Generally theyāll only do what they say they do, nothing more and nothing less
could cast spider climb to climb the cliff
fly to fly up
one of several teleport spells to magically appear atop it
wall of stone to build a ramp
and like 10 other things XD
Of course, if you have a really creative idea that is slightly outside of the bounds of a spell it may be worth it to ask your DM.
I wouldnāt expect the answer to be yes, but if youāre asking in good faith the worst they can say is no
Cool good to know I like that idea and probably some crowd control stuff rather than being a direct damage dealer
In other games I played I was more of a support role I like to boost my team mates and level the playing field to make whole party more likely to succeed only thing I need is protection when playing that way
Wizard can competently do both
Hi
Wasn't aware, so thanks for the info!
Hey guys, do any of yall know if there are discord servs for french D&D ?
Probably? But you may have better luck looking for French TTRPG servers using Discord's Discover feature.
yeah, but for the few out there it's not D&D, and everything outside of that feels very obscure as a complete stranger to ttrpg in general
Hey Iām new to dungeons & dragons like literally brand new and Iād like to know literally everything about it, the board game online game lore everything. Any people wanna help?
Well thatās a lot of information to dump
What you mean?
Everything about dnd is a lot. But if you wanna sure Iāll try to procure some links
Would love that
You have any game stores in your area? You could see if there's someone local running a D&D game you could join. But yeah, beyond Discord's Discovery tools, I unfortunately don't have any French D&D servers to share.
The Free Basic Rules (you can find it in #learn-to-play ) can help familiarise you with the game. The Forgotten Realms Wiki can provide info on the lore of one of the official settings. Online games are usually done through discord or other medium, accompanied by a VTT (virtual tabletop) to create scenes or battle maps. Also, dnd isnāt a board game, itās a Table Top Roleplaying Game. The only āboardā really used is a battle map, which is used during combat.
I see
Forgotten Realms Wiki:
There are also various books you can buy, either in person or on dnd beyond/online overall. These books contain stories, lore and additional subclasses or optional rules to play with.
(Outside of the Free Basic Rules)
There are some ways to play dnd, either via call, via text, via both (rarer) or in person. Choose whichever one fits you best

Ummmā¦
Is that enough?
so when you guys search for a party, is it usually pretty easy or is it common not to find a group that often ?
Yeah, it usually takes a bit
how much so ? on average I ask
Idk, days to weeks. Iāve seen some take a month or three
Hello. I am really new to D&D and want to start playing (hopefully for the low low price of //nothing// ). Is there a simple version specifically for beginners?

How do I start creating a digital character sheet? (Preferably through the bot)
Create a free account on DnDBeyond and you can make one there.
There are learn to play games in #looking-for-players
Ok thanks a lot!
Hello, Iām extremely new to dnd, like i tried to create a character sheet but failed miserably kind of new, are there any groups of people similar to me that I can form a party with?
there might be, but it all depends on who's looking for players. Might be worth your taking a look at #find-a-game , then #looking-for-players
Okay, thank you. Are there any channels dedicated for constructive feedback or criticism on specifically character sheets?
#character-discussion is probably the best for that
Don't be worried if you didn't know or forgot a rule/mechanic
Oh thanks I actually in a newly formed d&d group with my friends I just need to know some basic stuff
Idk when we start he said just wait when they start he will tell me to come over
do you know which edition you're going to be playing?
What do you mean
There are multiple editions of dnd, the most recent one is 5.5e/5e 2024
Well, for clarity, the most recent edition has been 5e, but 5e itself got a newer version recently (2024). It's not really a new edition, as most of the content is interchangeable.
Hey, Iām trying to find a group of new players. Maybe one or two experienced folk to help regulate a session
Have you looked at the #find-a-game channels?
I have not . Thanks for the direction
np
Hello!
Iām pretty new to dnd Iāve been in the community but never played a game
Iām hoping to learn some stuff š and hopefully find a group when Iām ready I heard itās really nice here!
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Then, make a practice character and get it reviewed in #character-discussion .
Once youāre ready and got the fundamentals down, you can check out #find-a-game for information on how to find a group online. To make a post, type the appropriate command in any chat channel.
Ohhh okay! Thank youuu
Iāll have time to help with specific questions, but filling a whole sheet probably exceeds the time Iāve got. Do you have specific questions?
Im new as new in new but im looking for a group and would like some help starting in general
@mild mountain
I already did
Hiii
Hallo
I can send you a picture of my character sheet in DMās first, if youād like
Makes sense to me. Lmk if you have questions
Hi Iām new to dnd and donāt really have friends who like it other than my younger sibling and cousins. Theyāre younger than me so Iām trying to learn how to DM, does anyone have any tips or tricks? Or is this a bad start to DM without playing experience?
It's not bad to DM without any experience, although what would probably be best is if you do a premade oneshot or campaign
Okay thanks! Weāre probably going to do the lost mines of phalander to start. One question though would it be wise to let the players go for possibly complex races like goblin, tabaxi, pixie, kenku, ect..
im also new to dnd and i wanna learn both DM and a player can someone help??
While there's nothing stopping you from doing that, I would recommend sticking to the player's handbook/premade characters for your first time playing
Okay thanks!
np
Have you read the basic rules?
i dont know anything i need some one to guidde me
You can find a link to the basic rules which you can read for free in #learn-to-play
okie can you add me in any of your campgain
I'm not in any campaigns at this point in time
ohh
like can you be a dm in an game
i really wanna play dnd so bad!!!
In that case I would recommend looking at the #find-a-game channels, specifically #looking-for-players ,
ok thanks
np

is there any way to play dnd by yourself if no one you know is interested in playing?
There is, although DnD isn't made to be that way
I have had success on training custom "Gems" on Gemini AI but to really make it work you need to have a pro version of it. You can do solo campaigns and keep a "Save File" on the side that you update after every session and feed it back when you want to hop back in.
You can play by yourself I suppose, but considering most of D&D is a DM running a game for players, doing it by yourself is just gonna be you deciding stuf happening and then rolling dice to see what happens, though you already know what will happen since when its just you, you're also the DM, or the game will be more of a "choose your adventure" -style of game
According to the 5e 2025 PHB, all warlock subclasses give you four spells you will always have prepared. Do these count towards your maximum prep. spells at 3rd level (stated as four on the warlock features table) or no?
Iām having trouble understanding how, since having four always-prep. spells would mean I canāt prepare any other spell I learned until level 4
Spells that are always prepared are on top of your 4 prepared spells. For example a lvl3 fiend warlock gains 4 spells from the fiend subclass, and can choose 4 spells from the warlock subclass. So you have a total of 8 prepared spells.
Thank you so much, does this go for other spellcasting classes as well?
To my knowledge yes, it appears to be mention in their spellcasting feat.
I am thinking of trying my hand at being a dungeon master in the near future I was wondering though if I want to be more forgiving of failure/death can I in say a certain situation or campaign have a player character become a ghost that can help in certain ways until being revived?
I have this idea of having a special world where death is not the end of the game but rather a new beginning with different sets of realities for both players and npcs who die?
Tell me if this sounds completely stupid or would not work I want to learn it just sounds interesting to me
I mean it could work, but that the spells required to bring someone back can be very costly for the characters especially at low levels
I was thinking sort of maybe the dead has to do a quest to get life back or the living players could have to get a certain object or do a task that brings the dead back to life.
Like maybe if dead there is a reaper like creature you have a chance to persuade or use deception to bring you back to life maybe for a cost
I like the concept and could tie into story arcs and rp really well. I think avoiding people becoming ghosts too early is ideal so they donāt spend X+ sessions dead at lvl 1
Like I said, it could work. But I would recommend against it unitl you have some DMing experience
It may take more discipline on the playersā to not metagame between ghosts and living as well, not that I know your table or group ofc
But I think you should look into it. It doesnāt sound stupid at all and I say run with it
Oh yeah I would not have it happen unless they die more of adding a second chance at life like have a normal playthrough but say IF a player does die a d20 to convince a ghost keeper to bring them back to life sort of like a second wind that just gives the player a chance to come back to life but if that fails they die
Maybe you can incorporate the death save mechanic into your idea by drawing it over a long period, and actions can be taken to sway the hand, or even gods, of death
Prolonging the experience of being between world and finally ending up in either*
How would it work if only some of the members died? Would they be going on two different adventures?
I think more of roll a d20 to see how successful you are now that I think about it like if your players and a team mate dies maybe you roll a d20 to see if you can convince somebody on other side to bring teammate back or possibly have the dead player roll a d20 to see if they are given a second chance but if these fail the player needs to make a new character
I just like idea of being forgiving of death with a chance of coming back maybe with 25% health again
Oh maybe just 1 then
And that costs 300 gp worth of diamonds to cast
It may be a dumb idea that would not really work I was just curious if something like this could in like a homebaked rule set just a second chance I picture it sort of like in WoW shamans can come back to life if they die but more based on a d20 roll with a high difficulty class
Iām fine with this concept, just run it through your players first. And maybe tweak it a lil, cuz after level 5 if revivify is online some people actually make death harsher.
Kk good to know I appreciate it
I'm making my first new character and reading all the rules and character sheets, this is all so exciting
I mean if ya dont crit fail ya get 3 chances for life
Well... up to 6
I still have the notebook for my first character, sadly wish the game would've never stopped :/
"sadly wish the game would've never stopped :/" what does that mean?
your talking about the game you had with your friends?
Exactly what they said, they wish that campaign didn't end
ohhhh, sorry yeah right, I thought he meant like nobody plays anymore, that worried me for a second
again, I'm new asf, so people saying anything sounds like something or another
I'm having a hard time thinking about which class I want to first time on,
is there a character that gives group buffs, like auras in Diablo II
defensive buffs, offensive buffs, regenerations etc
I'm looking at Cleric and Paladin right now
Both of those offer you spells that'll buff and heal.
Hello can someone please tell me how to play dungeons and dragons because I have seen lots of people play and it looks incredibly fun but I have never touched the game in my life š«¤
at a very basic level it revolves around exploration, interaction and combat
the short answer is you're working together with other characters going on adventures
Hey, I have another question, i read on the site that oath of devotion is a subclass i could do, but do I have to do devotion? I read on chatgpt that there's ancients & vengeance available also
are those other oaths just in other books I don't have knowledge of
do i have to purchase books to have them readily available on d&d beyond website
Yes. Theyāre in the Players Handbook
They're are 4 in the player's handbook, although only 1 is available on dndbeyond for free
so i would have to spend like 70 cad for vengeance to be available during my playthrough
there is an option for buying digital only on dndbeyond, but yes, if you want to officially get the vengeance subclass available you'll have to pay.
like for the sheets to have the subclass system avaialble during said gameplay, you mean?
on the website
I can't just micro manage my vengeance system while playing for free on the website separately
i imagine that's up to the DM
Depending on the DM they may or may not have the ability to share the stuff they have
I'm sorry for so many questions.
So if I buy the 2024 players handbook on the website, it'll integrate the subclass oath of vengeance on my character sheet (if I adjust it) as I progress levels?
Or is it all just information/references as I play?
To be honest I'm not entirely sure how the leveling up works on dndbeyond as I haven't used it.
Are you saying I'm not restricted to using characters sheets while playing from D&D Beyond and as long as I have proper calculations and knowledge of levellings systems, etc, I can use whatever from any playerbook as long as it's done properly?
guys can someone add me in theri campagain i never played a game ever before and i wanna learn dnd
I imagine I'll use the sheet on the website anyways, because I'm obviously not informed, but I could use sheets hypothetically separate from the site?
If anyone in your campaign owns it, ask them to turn on content sharing. Everyone in that campaign could āborrowā their stuff and use it build characters.
You could, but that'll depend on the campaign you're part of, as some DMs want you to use dndbeyond, whereas other DMs will be ok with the character sheet being a pdf or through another site.
Yeah, I think I've seen PDF sheets in the past, but it looks complicated as a beginner, so using Beyond would just be simpler with the help tips and overall info.
I'll definitely buy the book in the short future, it all looks like a good read.
If you haven't already, read the basic rules on dndbeyond, you can find a link to the free basic rules in #learn-to-play . And as for joining a campaing I would suggest looking at the #find-a-game channels, specifically #looking-for-players .
i read the rules
I'm thinking I want to do Vengeance Paladin,
it sounds really cool
but I'll obviously not use the skills as a solo player, I'll still try to assist anybody with their problems
in campaign
get myself killed or something.
Canāt go wrong with pally. Youāll enjoy it.
K frig it, making my character tonight, as for lore and designs of my equipment and stuff, I'll draw stuff tomorrow.
When creating the character on D&D Beyond, should I just leave all of the character preferences alone and default?
If you mean the āCore Contentā āExpanded Rulesā āLegacy Contentā stuff, thatās a question for the DM as to what theyāll allow in the campaign.
Hey I'm trying to start playing DND but don't know where to start (I wanna be the DM)
What do u guys recommend doing?
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have.

The most important part of being a good DM is facilitating the fun of everyone at the table. Keep these tips in mind to help things go smoothly:
D&D is about telling a story as a group, so let the players contribute to the outcome through the words and deeds of their characters. If some players are reluctant to speak up, ask them what their characters are doing.
The DM isnāt competing against the player characters. Your job is to referee the rules, run monsters, and keep the story moving.

Adventures have no prescribed outcome. You can alter any encounter to make it more interesting and fun for your players.
Dungeon Masters are fallible, just like everyone else, and even experienced DMs make mistakes. If you overlook, forget, or misrepresent something, correct yourself and move on. No one expects you to memorize every part of this adventure and all the rules in the Basic Rules. As long as your players are having fun, everything will be just fine.
I would recommend after reading the basic rules, do a premade oneshot
Ok thx
hello how or the campaigns played on any specific platform or irl?
You can play online or irl. If online, DNDBeyond has online characters sheets and a maps program thatās in Beta.
Thereās some third party sites/programs you can use as well for online play. Roll20 is one Iāve used in the past.
Are you busy tomorrow, i'll have more questions but I am too tired to frame them properly
i'm still in the middle of making my character looking at all the characteristics and features, and proficiencies
anyways, can I add you? or should I just @ you
Iām rarely on Discord, but I can try to remember to hop on tomorrow evening.
Donāt mind helping.
So my friends and I are trying to start our own group and none of us have played before. I am planning on being the DM for our first campaign and would appreciate any tips or suggestions for being a solid DM.
Check this (#dnd-newcomers message) and the section below.
Are you looking at a prewritten adventure to start with?
Thatās what Iām leaning towards just because I want to create a fun experience and with time I can create my own.
How much of the actual rules does the free rules, that big PDF, cover?
It contains all the rules needed to play a game of D&D. All the extra stuff not in the free rules are just expanding upon those.
It covers pretty much all of the rules. But it cuts back on options. For example, thereās only 1 free subclass for each class. Whereas each class has 4 subclasses in the Playerās Handbook.
Prewritten is the way to go. Make sure you know the story in the adventure as well as you can, but also remember that your players donāt know the material. So if you screw up, just redirect. Theyāll never know.
I'm like new and stuff so like any tips?
Are you a player or DM?
Try having a read through the first couple of sections of the Free Rules to get a grasp of the terminology, then have a go at putting a character together for practice.
You'll need to pick a class, species and background. Let us know if you have any questions!

How do i know what my gmt is
Do you know what your time zone is
Random question but is āThe Wild Beyond the Witchlightā a good campaign/adventure module to play in as a new time dnd player. I have only gotten a few one shots under my belt
ive made a campaign thet wasnt played yet but if you would give me some feedback id be greatfull ; players are kind of protectors of the town . they werent chosen but they just started protecting the town . ...... they meet in the tavern to talk about missing caravans then elf bard comes to them and tells them about ruins of a caravan next to the city when they go there players sudently get hit by a magical smthin (like beam or somethin like that ) and they lose consciousness after some time they wake up in a big room with a table that look like some time ago there was a feast in there . then some gnome wizard apears and says ; welcome to my games of tricks (bard try to attack him but he is turned into stone ) uu you shuldnt do that . as i was saying yes these are my games you will need to solve some puzzles to escape them . also my name is Mistelflickel . (then he teleports them to some other room ) he says ; now some riddles for ya first one says : i break mountains i kill king i flow like a river, i am seen like a cloud (answer is time) (secont riddle makes sense only in polish so il skip it ) 3rd one cake oh cake oh cake who are you ? a truth a lie some love or deth . (last one only makes sense in polish too but its about counting ) (after that players are yet again teleported to another room but now each player has his room ) the room has a table and on it there is unfinished game of poker and some skeletons (not enemies just dead bodies) there is also a obsidian door wich is decorated in diamonds or spears or metal leaves or metal hearts (each person has other decoration) there is also something like a keyhole but its too big for a key and its in shape of a card when they open the door by using a card that they enter a big 40 feet by 40 feet room (8x8 tiles) wich also have a big door with diamonds ,leaves ,spears and hearts with 3 Gelatinous Cubes and one of them have a joker card inside of them and rest have bodies of people that players recognize
(they enter battle ) after that they enter a room with giant stack of keys and a obsidian door with a sign on them that says this door once open will be open forever . (there is also lot of signs of recent activity (yes this door is already open)) after they figure out that the door was open they after bossfight arena (idk what should they fight) after they defeat the boss they are teleported to this forest that they were in before (the end) also sorry for my grammar
that was over 2000 characters so i had to send it in 2 parts xD
also i have never made a campaign or played one
It's actually pretty decent although the ending bit may need a bit more DM work to finesse into place. If you need to discuss adventure details and possible spoliers, check out #1029833015423143957 and find the thread for the Wild Beyond the Witchlight.
If you want other DMs to provide feedback (or just to bounce ideas off of) we do have #dm-discussion
ok thx ā¤ļø
Hi, I'm new. Any advice?
Youāre going to make mistakes, forget things and the like, but as long as you and the rest of your group are having fun then that really doesnāt matter
Okay thanks
For anybody new with D&D I'd stringly recommend reading through the resources in #learn-to-play and, at a minimum, the first two chapters of the free basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
You don't have to memorize it all but being familiar with the core game mechanics and how to make a character will help you a lot.
Can someone tell me how to get the oath of vengeance subclass for paladin
Oath of Vengeance is in the Players Handbook so you would need to own the book or be in a campaign sharing that book with you.
If you'e using DnDBeyond...
?books
There are four ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books:
- Purchase the full digital book from the marketplace
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from the marketplace
- Join a D&D Beyond campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond (Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way; it is for personal use only)
-# That's a handy bot command!
Happy new year everyone
I'm trying to get into dnd with some of my friends except none of us have ever played before. We've decided whos going to be the DM, but we don't really know how to start. I've done some research and a lot of people suggested using the Lost Mine if Phandelver campaign to start, so I got the campaign book, except we can't really work out how to use it and havent been able to actually start
Are you the DM or is that someone else in the group?
it's someone else, simply because they're the best at storytelling, but I'm kind if the one learning/explaining the game to them lol
Has anyone in your group checked out the Basic Rules yet?
I dont think so. I've told everyone to read the PHB tho
The PHB should cover the same content as the Basic Rules
Hi just joined this discord server. Google to the rescue. I say im new but I have very light experience.
Welcome!
Are you looking for a game to play or do you have questions?
There's a lot of advice on YouTube for "how to prepare a pre-made/prewritten adventure." That's one place to start.
The best resource I would suggest is the Quickstart Guide to Game Mastering: https://howtogm.guide/ Send them that to read over and apply its lessons to LMoP.
tysm :) I'll definitely have a look at that
Im honestly scared to try and play a new game. I have some trama about dms that don't explain any world Backstory of classes, worlds, or residential of the worlds, but im willing to try again. Also is there problems with creating one's own character sheets to fill out.
Not necessarily but always check with the group you're playing with. They may have preferred tools to help make things easier to run the game.
Im trying to figure out how to have my dm style easy to understand as well. I haven't figured out all the DM rules due to a lack of a handbook. I think those exist.
You can use the free basic rules - they have all the core rules/mechanics.
There is a Dungeon Masters Guidebook which provides optional rules, general DM guidance, and other DM tools.
But that is a paid book.
I tried to comb rule bases to find stat buffs like you have 15 in strength and that means you add 9 to your strength check. Dnd beyond's wording is quite confusing
Abilities
All creatures have six abilities that measure physical and mental characteristics: Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.
Each ability has a score from 1 to 20, which represents the magnitude of an ability. Each ability also has a modifier from -5 to +5, derived from its score. Add the modifier when you make a D20 Test with the corresponding ability or when a rule asks you to do so.
Determine your ability scores by using one of the following three methods. Your DM might prefer you to use a particular one.
- Standard Array. Use the following six scores for your abilities: 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8.
- Random Generation. Roll four d6s and record the total of the highest three dice. Do this five more times, so you have six numbers.
- Point Cost. You have 27 points to spend on your ability scores. The cost of each score is shown on the Ability Score Point Costs table. For example, a score of 14 costs 7 of your 27 points.
After assigning your ability scores, adjust them according to your background. Finally, determine your ability modifiers using the Ability Scores and Modifiers table. Write the modifier next to each of your scores.
So example:
a base ability score of 10 = +0 modifier
an ability score of 12 = +1 modifier
an ability score of 14 = +2 modifier
an ability score of 8 = -1 modifier (yes it can go negative)
Oh they are called ability Modifiers.
Everyone told me they were buffs when I played with them.
It sounds like your previous table was maybe not the best first experience or source of information. Try and take it all again from a fresh perspective this time! I'm sure it'll be much more straightforward without the misinformation.
Huh is that so? I thought 11=1 12=2 13=3
No. It goes up every two
Yeah make more sense now
Every 1 would be way too powerful
I still wanna try to create my own full book of homebrew stuff
Does anyone know a site where it could make it esier for me
I do recommend folks play the game with the core rules first before introducing homebrew - just so you get a feel for the game mechanics and balance.
Also because homebrew stuff almost always disrespects balance unless its official homebrew, even then its still quite swingy
Everytime I tried to use character sheets I got heavily lost so I made my own with my own system. I was tired of broken characters that kept feeling like they would just leave the party and nope out.
https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/new - you can generate nice looking homebrew using this site. You can get advice and feedback in the #homebrew channel.
Uh depends on the person that makes the homebrew I would say⦠š cuz I wanna focus it to be the same as D&D but almost not fully
Which part are you struggling with most
Making homebrew can be very fun - but yes, it can need a lot of playtesting and iterations to get something balanced for general use.
Thanks I will look into it right away
Happy new year everyone
You haven't played dnd before though right
Iām pretty sure āofficial homebrewā is an oxymoron haha
If not, are you mainly looking to check out dnd for inspiration instead of trying it out
The easiest homebrew is really just taking official materials and reflavoring it (e.g. describe it differently while maintaining the mechanics).
And yes I realized how silly it sounded, uhh whatever the term should be for official third party stuff
Nope I have like a lot, the problem is I havenāt played a good game table in a long timeā¦like long time..and I forget things now, and itās seem that I cannot find a table these days people seem to be picky about other people.
It definitely sounds like a fresh start would help then. It may be helpful to pinpoint where your characters got funky in terms of the rules. Were your characters broken because of rule misconceptions and/or because of the table you played at?
I found out that some of the games I played were homebrew just now. I always gravitate toward slice of life dnd. Apparently that isn't how it is traditionally played.
Damnā¦
Yeah uhh good luck with it
Oh I didn't know any lore going in and my character acted with no moral base
Oh.-.ā.8Ā£2ā¦.. that sounds like chaos
Knowing lore isnāt really necessary going in. And no moral base?
No moral base is strongly I would say bad
Your backstory can be very general before filling in specific details with your DM
Lore really only matters at what the table is deciding is the lore for their game/campaign/setting. Official D&D lore is much more losey-goosey - an idea starter, not a "the way it must be".
Like apparently dragonborn arent tribe folk with little connection to society
(psst: only moderators can delete messages but make sure you read what Dyno our moderation bot sends you)
Your dragonborn or settlement where you lived can be like that
(Yeah understood it)
Also the DM had made it seem like my character knew another one but didn't explain how
You didn't meet in a tavern? /jk
(that's a often-used start point for many D&D games/campaigns)
I wonderā¦about the people who are moderating here in general what about you guys ? Who do you play d&d with? Whatās your story guys.
I love a good tavern
We are members of the community who often play D&D and Wizards of the Coast, who owns and operates this as their official D&D Discord, asked us to moderate for them as contractors.
I play D&D with my family, coworkers, and sometimes running my own campaign for friends.
Oh I was talking to a mod?
Happy to hear that you do! Hope everyoneās year goes great!
Last dnd session I did at was in a server on discord and did the icewind dale with my barbarian character
Yes? I mean we are community members here too, we enjoy playing D&D.
@echo kelp btw sorry for tag////any tips for how to start to be a DM kinda scared to do bc of people, and how picky they are in general not only that but ruining moods and things. And itās seems a lot of stress and yet I wanna try to be a Dm so bad, bc of how much imagination my mind is holding.
Great question!

Damn .-.
I know what a dm is pretty much seen those things, just a tip on how to deal with the stress over people being picky? šš¤£
But I'd love to play a dnd game. If I had someone explain how Relations are before queuing me to act I would love that. I dont play with that DM any more. Instead of explaining things she told me to go in a corner like a toddler.
Assuming you know the rules...
Grab a pre-written adventure (plenty are on DMsGuild), do some reading/watching (I'd recommend the Quickstart Guide, the DM section of the Basic Rules starting here, and this Ginny Di video), and dive in! If you want additional homework, I'd recommend plucking whatever seems useful from Matt Colville's "Running the Game" series. At least watch the first handful of his videos!
My suggestions are here: ā ā #dm-discussion message You can also search the server for "dm advice" and/or "dm tips". This topic comes up all the time!
Picky how?
Im not picky with who the dm is as long as everyone enjoys the campaign
They donāt like me/ some do,
And all I ever done was be nice maybe too nice? Donāt know š honestly idk (maybe paranoia)
Hello guys i am new.How can i join a game?
Some people won't, thats just how it is, you just find people that enjoy your style of dming and stick with them
The same way that some people like ice cream and some dont
Its nothing against you, its just different tastes
Can also help to set expectations by saying that you are new to dming and may need some time to get settled
Yeah the problem for a new DM is youā¦never know whether they will like you or notā¦you just go with it..and in the end when you start they might all just leave yk? And no one wants that of course, thatās why I never came up to try, cuz I think I will rush things out or stress people
I wouldn't mind joining. Maybe. You seem cool. I love storytelling and narrating my character. I even create my own personality charts to keep my character consistent.
And my personal suggestions on being a good DM:
- Focus on fun: we play games like D&D to have fun. Try and make sure everyone at the table (including yourself) are generally having fun.
- Set expectations and boundaries: before playing, make sure the group has shared expectations on appropriate player behavior, appropriate character behavior (what stuff is not allowed in game), boundaries (topics that are not allowed at the table)
- Communication is key: if folks look like they are confused, frustrated, or losing interest, pause the game and discuss. No D&D is better then bad D&D.
- Make rulings in the moment to help keep the game flowing but it's okay after the game to review your rulings and clarify what would happen next time if such a situation comes up.
- Try and be consistent with your rulings
- If folks are not following the tables expectations and breaking boundaries, stop the game and address it. If they refuse to follow the shared expectations and honor boundaries, you may need to kick them from the table.
- And again I can not emphasize enough - focus on fun. Everyone should feel safe and have an enjoyable time playing D&D together.
Do oneshots if thats the case, let's you do low commitment sessions that allow for you to go through multiple sets of players and pull players that you like and that seem to enjoy your dming style
Thanks will keep your msg in my notes!
Hey everyone !!
Iām flav, I live in the US and j love board game ! I recently started to deep dive into the world of DND (always wanted to) and itās so satisfying and amazing to learn all the lore etc !
The community looks very welcoming and friendly:)
Iām looking for some people to help me getting started ! I have a lot of question, maybe Iād love to try a quest time !
Iām inspire to be a DM (like a lot of people I guess!) so I want to learn everything I can!
Thank you š
Well we covered a lot of that previously here in chat so if you'd like to scroll up a bit
Welcome
Ok I will read !
Yeah the problem for that is thatā¦I get attached fast to people⦠so idk if I will like to make a one session honestly I thinkā¦d&d is for making friends overall and a group to play with over and overā¦no matter the story.
I think I kept getting dms that did the opposite.
Also thank you guys!!! I love the fact that there is still nice people left in this world! ā¤ļø
But welcome to the official D&D Discord server run by Wizards of the Coast. For folks new to D&D we have #learn-to-play and the free basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
Feel free to ask specific questions as you run into things
Thats true, but its still a good option for having low commitment sessions on both ends and learning what works for you and what doesnt
Not saying that you have to do it but its a good option to keep in mind
I agree. My quest to dm has felt the same
I jump into the conversation sorry !!
I think one shot season are great to learn! You have to learn how to walk before learning how to run š
One shoot can help you understand more stuff, and learn little tiny things that are gonna help you later on for big campaign !
Iām willing to try a one shot session today to see how it works !
Thanks, I will look more things and will make a post on my own decisionsā¦hopefully it will go great ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø love you all thanks for the support and msg, I will go read some more things and make a decision
Unfortunately there's a range of DMs from those who are actively toxic to those who make every D&D game an absolute delight and you swear they could be a script writer for your favorite TV/Streaming show with how well they craft an engaging story.
Ezpz mind if I flick a quick dm

Sure
Im currently playing my own dnd campaigns to see their worth. Haven't found any gold yet though.
Thx for the advice though.
@rich jetty letās move over here, each stat can have at, at first level, a number from 8-15 using point buy. In point buy you get points to spend to add to you stats. The rule book you have should explain how much each number would cost and how many points you have.
Yes. Point buy or roll dice ! Thatās his you pick right ?
The dm often is the one to decide which you use, itās probably best to start with point buy as itās balanced
But does the deity or domaine is going to change those Numbers ?
Nope
Ok love that thanks
In 2014 their race does
Hi
On the book it says for elf
« Your dexterity score increases by 2ā so does that mean Iāll addd 2 to the roll or whatever is the number in dexterity?
No, that means your Ability Score (your base stat for Dexterity) increases by 2.
So if your base Dexterity is (let's say) 12, it'll increase to 14.
Ok. Thats kinda what I said no ?
I add 2 to the dexterity score
Your mentioned adding 2 to your roll, which is the incorrect part.
Gotchu
He meant rolled stat
Yes
Ah, I see. Apologies, I misunderstood what you were talking about.
Now, in the book āYou have proficiency in long sword, short swordā
And
āYou have proficiency in the perception skillsā
Ok so concretely. How do I write that down ? Do I need numbers for those ?
Just to clarify before we go any further, have you read through the Basic Rules for what these terms actually mean?
How you doing?
It'll be much easier for you to understand what numbers go in each section and what those numbers do if you understand why those numbers are there and what they mean.
Good
Do you have an questions about dnd?
Id highly recommend reading the rules if you havent already, it'll save lots of time and tell you the answers to the majority of your questions
Yes
So many strange words. Imma attempt to read the rules again. Maybe I can understand it this time.
Whatās the question?
Yes, you probably didnāt see it in the other channel #character-discussion but I have read and watched videos. Unfortunately, those are very confusing and not clear. I understand some of it not all of it, thatās why Iām seeking help here with someone who could guide me step by step in the creation of a character.
How do stats work bc I havenāt played since I was three
Just make sure you have the rules at hand so you can read each section as we talk about it. I saw you're using the outdated rules, so I pulled the old Basic Rules link up for you: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/basic-rules-2014
Iām da sorcerer
Make sure you're reading from the Basic Rules, since they have it laid out nice and ready for you: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024
hay so should i use xp advancment or milstone to build a new character
Your DM will decide which your campaign will be using.
Ok. I see you all are overwhelmed š
Iāll come back at a later time. Thanks for you help though
that makes sence
Read this first then come back if you have any more question

Yooo whatās good
can i send a picture in someones pms and then they can help with the boxes not filled yet?
Iv3e done most of it (idk if its right) and need help with like 4 boxes
you can get some character help in #character-discussion
What boxes havenāt you filled in yet? If you want to crowdsource help I suggest uploading your sheet pdf to a trusted file sharing site like Google drive and sending the share link either here or in #character-discussion as FlatParrot said
also, do you meant like a pencil and paper sheet, or fillable PDF, or sheet on DnDBeyond?
Ok Iām new to all of this and where do I startā¦.
Welcome! Iād have a look at #learn-to-play as well as this channelās pins, both of which have a bunch of useful newbie links including to the free Basic Rules. I suggest making a practice character as you flip through, since it often aids the learning process. The more you learn the easier it is to get into a table as well!
Don't feel pressured to memorize everything, take it at your own pace and focus on what you want to do (e.g. no need to read every spell description, or every classes' mechanics if you don't plan on playing one)
Also feel free to ask any specific questions you have here, weāre always happy to help! :)
If you're familiar with the rules already and/or just want to jump straight into group finding check out ā #find-a-game to learn how to use this server to find a group.
when you're on the d&d beyond website, set up tabs for classes, backgrounds, feats, species, spells, magic items, monsters, and equipment. there will be highlighted keywords that will explain what things do. and you can jump between tabs for reference, while you're creating your character sheet. As a noob who just started last night, that's what I did for myself.
Thank you, I played table game for about 4 hours and Iām hooked, played wow for about 15 years and Iām just looking for some good RP stuff and chill people to chat with about it all
Hey, Milhouse.

Thank ya
Hallo chat ^-^ Technically im not "New" new to dnd but its been quite a while and i remember very little, so i am here to re-learn both sides of the table and (hopefully) get my friends into it too :D
Welcome back! I'd point you and your buddies to the Basic Rules as well! DnD got an update to its base rules in 2024, so now's the best time to get caught up!
Oh sick :O thank you :D
weird. a whole bunch of stuff that i have in dndbeyond isn't showing up in my library. source books and adventures
Yeah known bug in the display - you can still access them
The devs will look into it when they get back from break
thats what i found weird. i was trying to bookmark them.
Should be able to go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/en/library?type=sourcebooks and see all of the ones you own or have access to.
its not showing all i own.
Actually even better: https://www.dndbeyond.com/en/library
My first link filters everything to just sourcebooks
i've got full access, its just showing that i need to purchase them again.
Yeah ignore that - that's the bug
so there's a flag somewhere that just isn't registerting properly for displaying in the market
get so many 1's and 0's, a few are bound to be out of place.
I was wondering if yāall think neverwinter online is a good intro to lore and world of dnd? I know itās gameplay would not translate but Iām curious would it work to teach world and lore and stuff to new players?
I tend to really enjoy MMOs but have not tried neverwinter yet
So official D&D lore doesn't really matter much to D&D games except as mush as the group wants to adhere to it or make use of it. Also there are multiple settings and so D&D lore in Forgotten Realms may be very different than Eberron
But feel free to have fun with the Neverwinter MMO
there are a number of really good 4e books about Neverwinter. one of the big reasons that Neverwinter was mainly absent from 5e was because that MMO was around.
Kk Ty I may try it then I am just looking for something to fill the time before I start playing table top and in between the weekly sessions
you could listen to the White Plume Mountain episodes of the Old Men Rolling Dice podcast. that was a fun listen.
if you want a game with the 5e mechanics, there's Solasta. or the more popular Baldur's Gate III.
Ty I may also try bg3 I bought it a while back but put it in my backlog that I never had a chance to get to yet well I guess I could have but I play mostly MMOs
@cedar sluice
I hear bg3 has actual dice rolls and choices to make that may fit well into dnd table top preparation and I hear the story is pretty interesting too so I should probably unbury it from my backlog and try it
just remember, bg3 is effectively a mildly homebrewed version of 5e 2014, so not everything will translate 1:1 but it is a fairly solid way to get comfortable with some of they way things are done
welp im new to DND and im looking for a session to get me started on my journey, already made a character on DND Beyond

Hello there freinds
I have pretty much no knowledge about dnd but i really want to learn and get inti playing it
You can find the basic rules for free on dndbeyond, there's a link in the #learn-to-play channel
Yeah I was looking through and I was trying to make a character Im not sure what like parameters to follow when making one though
i know that if you make one on DND beyond it helps you out
yeh me too
im in the same boat as yall im new
i just have the DND Beyond app and went to characters and made one it gave me a prompt for beginners and helped me make one
Anything specific you guys need help with/answered?
With the issues on dndbeyond, is there another resource to research how to play? I played with myfriend group early last year, and we're talking about starting up again. i'd like to do some research to remember how to play and explore other classes. I don't played a pre-generated cleric
roll 20 also has the free basic rules on their site if im not mistaken
Should
wrong one
ye, for me at least
Noice
real slow though]
oh awesome, thank you. Everything I keep searching for points me to dndbeyond
As a newcomer I've made 2 characters on dnd beyond any opinions on a dual halberd wielding tiefling paladin that eventually becomes an oathbreaker?
Impractical as hell cuz you canāt dual wield halberds
halberd is a 2 handed weapon
Yes I know it's classified as a 2 handed weapon but it didn't stop me from equipping both
not possible without your DM approving homebrew
So If I make it dual wielding it falls under homebrew?
No, you'd have to homebrew to be able to dual wield two-handed weapons, as two-handed weapons quite literally can not be dual wielded with RAW.
You should make a post on the #looking-for-players channel, people will be more like to notice you looking for players there.
Regular dual wielding exists in dnd, but yeah it canāt be done with two handed weapons
Using rules as written, its not possible to wield a two-handed weapon in one hand
See i figured if I made my guy big enough he'd be able to dual wield. Apologies on my part I just liked the concept since it's a build im gunning for on a different rpg platform
