For some reason I feel like I’ve done smt wrong
well you dont
Anyway should we just drop the quizzing
Why is the only thing coming to mind is the reduction of fall damage
Doesn’t consume focus
I know just only thing in my stick mind
step of the wind
Ohh
Lets you dash and disengage asa bonus action
You can also just dash as a bonus action for no focus
Brb
The last one is patient defence (disengage as a bonus actions), which if you spend a focus point also lets you dodge with the same bonus action.
Just memorise those four, plus the ability to hit stuff, and you’ll be fine
8
Okay I'll roll now
I may or may not have a dice on hand at all times
same
ill also roll
16
I only got a d20.
Used to also carry a d4 but it turned into caltrops.
Same
Was this for initiative?
i got 2 sets of dice
I got 5, I carry one dice
on hand, that is
Death thingy
ope
So roll one more time you got 2 8’s and a 16
ummmmm
i think we roll separately
Oh
17
Again
Yeah
Next roll determines it
guys i failed three death saving throws
I failed 1
Cya I guess. Hopefully not in hell
4 actually the last one was a 1
...
Wow critical fail. You fail two death saves
And considering you’ve already failed 2
Failed 2?
Yeah it dead
Anyway I rolled a 11, 5, 18 and 16
Were you using my rolls or just urs?
So I live
I thought above 10 you survive
Failed, 1. Or failed one.
three rolls
I misread that as you rolled one
well 3 fails/succeses
So I got an 8 on one so I failed then got 17
Aight keep rollin
Failed one succeeded one
If you roll at least a 10, that's a success.
If you roll a Nat 20, that’s double success. If you roll Nat 1, that’s a double fail
I'm dead
Whaddaya roll?
1...
i got a scroll in my pocket
Neat
I have a clarinet
Fun
Can I stab someone in the eyes with it?
new idea for near immortality: be a vampire, carry a bottle of blood, when you turn to dust the bottle breaks and you reform again
👏
Yes
You got the right idea. You’ll go far.
Problem: you fall into a flowing river
Hear me out push them into the sun they die rebirth then die again
DAMMIT
vampires dont die in the sunlight
I’ve optimised some pushing builds in my day, none nearly strong enough for that.
All that means is that I gotta try harder.
Anything will die in the sun
Oh you edited
Well not anything
Also what
you are fine on the sun in dnd if you are immune to radiant damage lol
only sunlight sensitivity
Say I was level 5 is it possible to live on the sun for less than a day?
Getting thrown near the sun will have enough sunlight to kill goddamn near anybody
true
Food and water being the problem
but we were talking about sunlight right?
You can survive without either for a day
Anyway gtg for a bit
I'm talking about my character and just testing the limits
It depends on your DM, in all likelyhood they will rule that any star is as deadly as ours. Best case scenario, stars will only do tons of radiant damage, so if you somehow became immune to it, you could explore a star in dnd
My character is a red dragon born
yeah they would be toast in 6 seconds close to any star
radiant and fire probably
Im just going by what we know about solar dragons and their lairs
I'm saying like at level 5 when they get a fire immunity
well fire immunity wont help
also radiant damage
id say its radiant and a bit of fire damage
Remember I'm testing my limits
well stars are far beyond your limits
And trying to understand D&D easier
(you could also try joining a game)
(I can't find a group)
At the very least, gravity would flatten you
Okay
What media are you familiar with so I can make a power reference?
For example, a level one wizard isn’t much better than a first or second year Hogwarts student
I haven't seen Harry potter
Shame
What have you seen?
Or what media/fanbases do you interact with that I might know of?
Any tv shows, comics, manga, games?
Kaiju no.8 the anime or manga
Oh neat I’ve read a bit of that
Favourite anime
Main character would be roughly… remind me how strong he is again?
Definitely above level 10, but definitely not level 20
Well him as a person really weak
Kaiju form
Stronger than mina
Agreed, but imma need feats or something
Who has a 99% boost in power
Actually, I can comfortably put him in lvl 17. give or take 2
Can't wait until November
Or maybe a bit higher…
Idk I’m not caught up
What’s his destructive power?
Strongest singular attack
Strongest attack was on himself where he punched through his body
2 regular houses a minute
How much damage would that have done on the environment if he did it there?
Oh!
Nvm then my approximation is just about right
Completely flattened
What about human form?
From what I remember like level5 or less
I'd say one but I'm not experienced at all
He doesn’t get ANY stronger?!
Only as a kaiju
Level one is trained fighter, hasn’t accomplished anything
Level three is accomplished maybe one decently impressive thing
Level 5 is consistently powerful for mortal standards
He's below average
Anything above that depends on the world, and you can even argue level 1-5 is dependent on context
Than a regular average joe?
Or below average for his profession
Yes
level 0 then
Right now way too low
Yes
Level 0 is average joe or below
Well that’s the power range in dnd.
Remember that only a few campaigns reach level 20.
I'm okay with that
Aight
Well that’s an anomaly for the most part
definitely
Hey Stick, do you remember what I told you about actions and reactions and bonus actions?
Kinda
What do you remember
So the main action uhh monks can use unarmed attack on the special action and uhh if something tries to attack you?
- ? 2. yes 3. No
Okay uhh 3 I don't remember 1 attack/Dodge or something like that
Have you had a read through the monk rules?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#Monk
opportunity attack (for everyone)/deflect attacks (for monk)
Yes I have
Thanks
Can anyone get me started on this game?

@quaint fractal look at the bot post above and ask any questions you have here!
@quaint fractal I know two very good teachers
@hearty blaze @lavish kayak are good teachers
thanks, nugget is better tho
i sometimes forget to actually explain the basics
No way you know at least twice as much with more experience
i know more but you are better at explaining
Read the rules on the bot above, then feel free to ask us any questions!
lets just, ummmmm, help newcomers ig
I think it’s cuz I DM for beginners, and only DM’ed for beginners
I read what the bot said and I suppose I should create a character now
Well first imma need to ask smt
you could, or read a bit more (do option 1)
D&D beyond is easy
Do you know DND’s basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay and classes (optional for now)
It also makes a character sheet you can print too
I understand the ability checks
DND beyond is very helpful and also very janky
So you also know modifiers correct? Those are just things that influence the final roll.
That’s fine, those we can do later
True but for beginners like me and him it's a really good tool
There are 13 classes in dnd, all of which offer different abilities and lore possibilities.
Anyway, I’d recommend going to #character-discussion if you want help with a character
I can help
I’ll follow you there, but I might need to disappear for a bit later
Actually we can help you make a backstory too
Drogan barely has one
Any questions beforehand?
Okay look first try on my own
Well after I understand the classes better I'll make myself a character on dnd beyond
Can anyone explain them for short though
You should be a dragon born
Shouldn't I be a human on the first play
A wizard necromancer dragon born
I’ll get back to this shortly
Ehhh
You don’t have to no. It is common too tho
I can be two?
Two species or classes?
Subclass
Classes, although species makes sense too
Yes to classes (it’s called multiclassing) but I don’t recommend multiclassing for a beginner
Necromancer is a subclass for wizards

Aight ignore that
Given the name I suppose it brings beings back to life
Yes
I had a druid necromancer but then deleted it
There are 13 classes in dnd, all of which have subclasses
I’d recommend going for the 2024 rules, in which there are 4 (I think) subclasses each class and 12 classes
Have you both read the free rules?
It's perhaps important to note that many spellcasters (wizards and even clerics) can animate the dead, if they pick the relevant spells. The necromancer subclass for wizard just makes them slightly better at doing so.
I have
MatteyTem you have enough of an understanding for now to create a character backstory
Well I don't think I should be a spellcaster at first since it's probably harder to get
I'll create a backstory for myself but I still need to decide on a class
Well this one’s smart.
Spellcasters are definitely harder, but not unlearnable
If by get you mean harder to understand, yeah, I do think so too. Though not insurmountably so, if you're not opposed to reading.
Uhhh what about a fighter or a monk so we both learn at the same time?
sounds good but I should hear about all classes before I decide
There are
Fighter
Ranger
Rogue
Paladin
Monk
Barbarian
(Martials above)
Bard
Wizard
Sorcerer
Druid
Warlock
Cleric
And I’m forgetting one
Also Ranger and Paladin are both martials and spellcasters
Cleric maybe?
So Fighter is just weapons right
For the most part, there are psionic and magic subclasses but in terms of core base class yes
They are probably the simplest class
What is the fire resistant species?
Dragonborn can have fire resistance
Tiefling can get fire resistance depending on sub species
That too
Ik
Well ya asked
Does ranger use bows and guns? You mentioned it being half spellcaster too
They technically can use any weapon
Ranger is usually depicted using bows but can use any weapon
You can think of rangers as people who are attuned with nature and are adept at utilising its powers
But not Druids
Druids are nature
Depends on what the DM says
Some may say no guns
Rangers can use any weapon that exists in the universe, though preferably dexterity based
So an elf with a knife that can use nature spells is ranger?
Not necessarily
That can also be a Druid, or most other classes
But could be
Okay @quaint fractal do you know what each stat is?
Yes although I didn't quite get the difference between Wis and Int
Keep in mind a half caster isn't half as good as a full caster at casting. They're a lot worse than them but to make up they get a lot of weapon using features
I still don't
Intelligence measures mental acuity, accuracy of recall, and the ability to reason.
Idk what it is
The rule book does a good job of defining the two
?tag monk
No tag monk found.
Wisdom reflects how attuned you are to the world around you and represents perceptiveness and intuition.
?tags
taghelp
?taghelp
Stick don’t blame yourself for not being able to do it, I still barely know how it works
I guess I have a rough idea on rangers, now rogues are probably sneaky attackers right
I'm trying to be helpful but I can't 🥀
They have a feature called Sneak Attack (rogues)
Extra damage if you hit something with advantage, which they can do by hiding or through some other method
Alright easy, now what are paladins, you said they also use spells

Here's a snippet overview of each class:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes
Drat I keep forgetting the commands
^^^^
Read through this first if you want an overview on each class
So Paladin is like a support?
Read the player section of the basic rules
That’s not a great way to put it. They can support, but they can also deal a lot of damage, tank damage and lead social interactions
absolutely
Sorry yall gtg for a bit
I think i got my first campaign
There are no dedicated roles in 5e. Anyone can support, tank, and do damage depending on your equipment and build
So is Paladin a fighter but which can heal and has high charisma?
no, it benefits from high charisma, doesnt nessecarily have it
In video games I play support
My recommendation (you don't have to) go as a monk because then you get a special ability at level 5 to reduce damage by 6
I'll probably use monk then
What's the difference between wizard and sorcerer tho?
one has a spellbook, other was born with it
That is incorrect.
If you mean deflect attacks, that's at level 3, and the reduced damage isn't static.
we rolled a 6 in the example
its not always a 6
Blame nugget
no, he literally said that he rolled for it
I am also allowed to blame you, since you said that you read the rules. 😛
Wizards are more flexible and can switch out their spells prepared every long rest
Sorcerers have metamagic and sorcery points that they can use to improve their spells among other things
Up to level 5 and I don't remember things from a minute ago
Anyway @quaint fractal go to #character-discussion and I'll help make a character with you
Hey, no biggie. But looking up things is easy and it's good to get used to it. If you're not sure how something works, just a quick look at the basic rules will often be instructive.
You can even link directly to features, like so:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/character-classes#Level3DeflectAttacks
How do you use tags @hearty escarp
There's a list of public commands over in the server guide #frequently-asked-questions message
apart from the ones listed there, I avoid using them and rather like to link to the rules directly
i do not reccomend teaching someone, as you still dont know a lot
I can make characters I just can't do anything else
characters is all ive been able 2 do since being new 2 dnd makes it hard 2 find a campaign
Any one here in a community that’s good with new players?? I’m really trying to find some people, but most discords I join is inactive.
i feel that pain
this community is very active and helpful tho
I’m alright with new players but I’m already running a campaign
Still can help you, just can’t DM for you if that’s what you’re asking.
Which on review you didn’t ask that.
Oops
if you werent in the middle of one, would u host one for new/newer players?
There’s plenty of people that are much more experienced than me who are willing to help you too!
i would
I’m currently hosting one for new players actually
None of them have played before
and i am technically recruiting rn but its a text game🙃
Except for 2 actually nvm they did a short campaign
Yeah I’m super new to all of this, I’m trynna watch some yt videos to get an understanding. We have two groups near me irl I could attend but I’m so socially awkward I don’t even wanna try.

Also, I’m an Australian so time scheduling would be hell
im bad at text
I’ve always wanted to try a text game actually
times dont matter much for me currently
But again, mid campaign and time zones
hey nugget, you wanna join my-
I’m down
wait really
Don’t say I didn’t warn you about the scheduling, but yes
I have exams coming up in 2 months, I’ve got school, I’m in another Timezone and I’m also mid campaign
But apart from that, I’m down to play
You’re the DM. You decide if it’s worth it.
i DMed you already
What's the timezone I'm now curious
Off-topic for this channel, let's take this to DMs
TRPGs are inherently social activities, whether they're played irl or online.
I'd suggest you put off watching the videos and read the Basic Rules first if you haven't already done that. YT is no substitute to knowing the fundamental rules of the game and many of these videos can even be misleading
Working on going through those channels. I’m easy online, just going in person I don’t think is my thing, I already get social anxiety just being in a market.
we did already🙃
but you are totally correct
Best of luck finding a group. There are games in #looking-for-players , or you can post your own listing. #find-a-game

Hi! Have a look at #learn-to-play , read the free Basic Rules, then start looking for a group. Choose whether you want to be a DM or a player.
You’ve picked a perfect time to join. Welcome! There's a new Starter Set out that would be a great thing to look at. It's called Heroes on the Borderlands. It comes with everything you need to dip your toe in!
hi, i'm new to dnd, are there people who i could start or join a campaign with

ok
Do note it can take some time to find or organize a game
what channel would probably be the channel to ask about a dnd discord bot/play style? i remember a type of discord bot/westmarch but cant figure out the name of it
Avrae is a discord bot that helps with rolls and sheets and such. Westmarch is a style of play that usually involves a lot of players in a more exploration/roleplay focused campaign on a community server.
tysm! for some reason i remember a bot where you can play dnd by yourself whenever you can/want and the world is shared between people
i guess i was just confusing avrae with it
Hello everyone, what do I type in character's Organizations, Allies, Enemies?
If your DM's game setting has organizations/factions you might be associated with, any allies your character makes along their adventures, and any enemies your character makes along the way.
Okay, thanks!
for those that have the heroes on the borderlands set, is the starter set rulebook that comes with it specifically tailored to what comes with the set, or is it generalized enough to teach playing the 2024 rules?
Hi
howdy

My understanding is that it’s specific to the starter set but would be easy for folks to transition to the actual 2024 basic rules.
How do I start playing? What do I have to do when I’ve made a character
hopefully the hellfire set has a more generic one, other than the stranger things branding. i'm hoping for a 2024 equivalent to the Essentials Kit rulebook and Starter Set rulebook from the 2014 rules

does someone have battle tutorial on yt ?? idk how to fight so it would be helpfull
do you mean for dnd or in general?
thx
and i meant dnd

ok i will
just fyi, this channel isnt for introductions

hey guys whats the most different class from grave clerc in terms of playstyle? only played once so idk
different? why would you want to know that?
opposite as in the least like a cleric?
Thank you so much!
Barbarian perhaps, or rogue?
no as in has a different playstyle from grave cleric. i wanna play a character that isnt really similar to it
barbarian, fighter, or rogue
rogue
alright thanks guys, but ive heard barbarian isnt really that good and varied
well you shouldnt really play to be good. Plus, barbarians can be fantastic in 2024
sorry not good i mean varied/has many options
it has, actually
in 2024 that is
ive only played as a cleric and as a druid for a one shot so
As a Barbarian player, they're great in combat but yeah, you should choose an interesting origin if you want to use your character sheet much outside of fighting. At low levels that is.
i'm really interested in path of the world tree
from level 3 that argument just stops to exist
good ol primal knowledge
Primal Knowledge is a fantastic addition to the class to fix this. But still, compared to other classes, the Barbarian's base class features rely heavily on being in combat. Certain subclasses can alleviate this of course.
I'm always a fan of thinking outside the stereotypes. If barbarian just means "fur-wearing tribesman with a big axe" to you, I'm happy to discuss alternatives in #character-discussion !
what subclasses/origins would make it more non combat oriented
i was thinking either a living tree barb or a sailor barb
The Musician, Crafter, and Healer come to mind for Origin feats giving a Barbarian more utility. (Entertainer, Artisan, and Outlander backgrounds respectively.)
an entertainer barbarian sounds really neat
but in terms of subclasses im not really sure where to go except for world tree
Path of the Wild Heart also gives some variation. Not only can you choose a different Rage benefit each time you activate it, but you can cast Speak with Animals and Beast Sense.
The Eagle option for Rage of the Wilds (level 3) seems the most useful for out-of-combat activities, but at higher levels, you get more options that grant movement/detection options.
entertainer zealot barbarian, the show must go on
oooooh
Species that grant non-combat-related benefits could also help a Barbarian feel more dynamic. Dwarf's Stonecunning, gnome's magic, and halfling's luck. Even a goliath's Large Form could be used for roleplay purposes.
whats a bit strange to me is that there arent any caster subclasses for monk/barb
i get barb has no conc while raging but
they cant cast
not just concentrate
There's plenty of magic subclasses, but Rage is pretty incompatible with casting on the fly. There's the option of casting non-Concentration buffs pre-Rage though! Like Jump and Longstrider.
monk seems like it could have a caster subclass too
The Warrior of Shadow might be the closest
But they still have magical potential in other subclasses
do you think there will be a primal/divine caster subclass for any martial
like an acolyte rogue or smth
Maybe one day. But there are ways to flavor character options to achieve a similar build.
It might depend on class identity/playstyle within D&D mechanics, and how necessary a subclass that grants divine magic might be outside of multiclassing, feats, and origin options.
Storm Herald and Wild Magic are the closest to a Barbarian casting spells
For the Monk, Four Elements and Sun Soul
I think its excellent
Shadow monk also cast spells
It's kinda hard to find a species/class combo that's "bad." It's really a 'pick what interests you' kinda situation.
That said, the extra HP from Dwarven Toughness highly compliments the role of a tanky, protective Paladin. And the Tremorsense gained by Stonecunning combined with pretty good Darvision will make looking out for trouble easier so you can get ahead of your less tanky friends.
thank u for info
and that was kinda what i was thinking it could be tank with idk spells or something
Uh hey everyone
hello
Hello everyone! :>
That's exactly what a Paladin's good at!
But as a newbie, I'd try getting the hang of the flow of combat without thinking much about your special abilities and spells. Get up close and bonk people, making use of that extra HP. Try using your Weapon Mastery as much as possible (an extra effect that happens each time you either hit or damage with your weapon.)
When you want to explore more of your kit, you can try practicing healing mid-combat with Lay on Hands when you or your allies start getting low on HP.
Then using spells like Command, Compelled Duel, or Shield of Faith are nice to look into when you want to amp up your ability to guard allies.
thank u for that info
I am sort of going a DnD hyper fixation, but I’ve only been in a session one time. And have no idea how to play DnD TwT
Welcome to the club :)
and for everyone in middle europe (me) have a good night ( :
Do you want some help with the rules?
Sure
Have you checked out #learn-to-play ?
Nope I’ll definitely be doing that!
Ooo, I saw the choose-your-own-adventure intro is in that channel. That's a pretty good opener for trying your own game.
An interactive adventure, yes.
I know what DnD is, I’ve played one session with my friends only once. But I don’t know how to make character sheets or what the numbers of the dice rolls mean or anything basically T-T
The rules answer those questions!
I've introduced tons of people and have a hyperfixation for character sheets/builds so if having a person explain something makes absorbing info easier, I'd be happy to help.
What things? We can help here.
I haven’t finished reading the rules yet, it’s just a lot of words are overwhelming to me at first
Don’t blame ya, it’s a lot of reading
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, I recommend just learning how to make a character, basic ability checks, modifiers, core gameplay, classes and combat.
-# One at a time of course
This will get you into most beginner games, and you can learn them here!
And yes don’t try to absorb that much info at once
Let’s start with what the dice do?
D4, d6, d8, d10 and d12 are often used for damage calculations and are dependent on the weapon/spell.
the D20 is the most important dice. This is the dice you want to roll when you wish to perform a difficult action. Say you’re trying to do a backflip, you’re going to roll an Acrobatics (dexterity) check.
If you roll well, you do the backflip.
On building characters:
-# (I always used the D&D Beyond online character builder, but looking back I think PDFs are more beginner friendly for making level 1 characters. The Basic Rules walk you through filling it out without doing too much at once.)
Do people run like over call campaigns here ?
I’ve never played before but really want to but know if my friends know how/ want to
I think there are channels for finding players/DMs in this server. And I think many of those are via voice chat.
#find-a-game
go here
This server does not run games itself. If you wanted to use this server to find a group however take a read through #find-a-game !
is there a homebrew meant specifically for new players thats "easier" than regular dnd
Other than recommending you try the basic game as is before introducing homebrew?
Because homebrew actually complicates things
Usually
I agree
But there's a sterter adventure PDF that uses bare minimum rules. It even only uses two kinds of dice.
Peril in Pinebrook I think
?tag ddb claim
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
eh
I think Peril in Pinebrook might still be on DMsGuild

Hi, I'm trying to download a character sheet PDF but it always ends up empty
DnDBeyond PDF filled-in character sheets may not render well in some PDF viewers - try Adobe Acrobat.
there are blank pdfs available online, you can print out paper sheets or use character builders like D&D Beyond (https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder)
ty!
I’ve found PDFs more approachable for first-time characters but there may be exceptions for people who like flipping through menus. The Basic Rules walk you through filling a sheet pretty nicely.
which is better when building a character milestone or exp to level up cause just started a while ago and ive been doing exp
Your level up method will be decided by your DM
so should i create a charcter before or after i get a dm?
It doesn’t hurt to play with character options and see what interests you before you join a game, but there’s typically a “session zero,” a D&D session that establishes expectations and limits, where you can discuss your plans for your character and see how they fit into the campaign or into the party.
you can create one for practice and for one to have in mind for a future game. As long as you use things available in the basic rules/PHB and use things like Point buy or Standard Array for your Ability scores..
you can always change the level up method when you get a DM.
Anyone have some tips on getting started? I’ve been wanting to get into D&D for awhile and have no idea what to do.

Hardest thing is finding a group
Hi hi, i have some curiosity around "Caster" classes, how the spells and spellslots work?
Like, i know that if i use a lvl 1 spell in a lvl 3 slot it get "upgraded" but i mean in like, how many spells one could do before getting out of them?
hallooo
The table under your class listing in the Player's Handbook shows how many spell slots you have
For example, a level 1 Wizard has two L1 spell slots. A level 3 Wizard has four L1 spell slots and two L2 spell slots.
Generally speaking spell slots are recovered on a long rest although some classes have other ways to recover them
i don’t know ANYTHING about d&d I just own a shit ton of dice :D
okey okey, i kinda get it more
and using a spell L1 on a slot lvl 3 would upgrade it?
call it more damage or higher DC saving or apply extra effects
Correct. So let's say our example level 3 wizard casts Magic Missile (a L1 spell) four times, using all of her L1 spell slots. She wants to cast even more Magic Missiles, so she spends a L2 slot to cast it this time. That L2 cast gives her an extra magic missile which deals more damage.
Some spells don't have an extra effect when cast at a higher level, but you might still want to do it if you've run out of lower level slots
so i have to know which spells work better in lower slots and which work better in higher slots
okey okey
Right
and casting some high level spells in lower slots lower their effects?
like, a level 5 in a slot1
Nope! You can't "down cast" spells at all
Oohhhh, so you climb up but dont drag it down
So our example level 3 Wizard has Invisibility (a L2 spell). She can cast it twice using her L2 spell slots, but once she's done that, she can't cast it any more even though she has L1 spell slots remaining
nice nice
and i guess casting such spell like invisibility in a higher spell slot wouldnt upgrade it?
I think Invisibility does actually get an upgrade, you can target additional creatures
But you are correct that some spells don't get upgraded from casting at a higher level
or, obviously, if the DM want and let, add extra effects to some spells, like always, one can bend the rules
Any bonuses from upcasting a spell will be listed in the spell description
okey okey
And yes the DM can bend, add, remove, or otherwise change the rules but it’s not something that you could rely on as a default
yeah yeah, its how it is DnD
I would also say 90% of the time you will be casting a spell with a slot of that spell's level. Usually casting a L4 spell is stronger than a L3 spell upcast to L4
and such things like cantrips dont have "slots", you can cast them all you want whenever you want?
Correct! You can cast cantrips all day and not run out
You still need to follow the other rules of spellcasting but otherwise yes they’re effectively free
such as?
You still need to be able to do the correct components (verbal, somatic, material depending on the spell) - so if your hands are tied, you're gagged, or someone stole your spellcasting implement/component pouch then you will be restricted in what spells you can cast
In 2024, you can't cast more than one spell with a spell slot per turn
Just off the top of my head:
- You need to ensure the spell is cast on a valid target
- Verbal, material, and somatic components
- You need to follow the rules about casting multiple spells in one turn
- You need a clear path to the target for any given spell
Barring any special exceptions, which would also be outlined in the spells description (e.g. you don’t need to “see” / “have a clear path to” the plane of fire if you wish to cast Plane Shift to travel to it)
So, if for example, vicious mockery, i would need to talk
Correct, a spell's components are listed in its description
Verbal somatic and material
Verbal, Somatic (requires hand gestures), and Material (requires specific items)
okey okey
But yes essentially “audible sounds” “hand movements” “items”
or some need 2 at the same time
Quite a few spells need all 3
And then there is Concentration, that you need to do a const roll to see if you maintain it each time you get attacked, true?
Yup
One thing to know is that if the spell has a material component, but that component doesn't have a price listed, then it can be replaced by your spellcasting implement.
So for example, Message requires a material component of copper wire. But if you are a wizard and have a wand, staff, etc. then you can use that instead of the copper wire
You need to make a concentration check whenever:
- You take an instance of damage
- Your DM determines you need to (e.g. in bad weather)
Also you can't have more than one Concentration spell active at a time! If you cast a second one, your concentration on the first one drops
A concentration check will be a constitution saving throw with the DC set at 10 or half the damage taken, whichever is higher
So, for example, if i want to cast Flame strike (it requires Pinch of sulfur), i should be able to "cover" it using an item to canalize it?
If that item is your spell focus yes
Aka, being a cleric using his religious symbol
okey okey
Yep! Only exception is if the component costs money. So for example the Revivify spell requires a 300 GP diamond; in that case you actually need the diamond
Dying is expensive...
Alternatively if you use a component pouch your pouch is assumed to have every item you need outside of components with an explicit gold cost listed in the spell
yeah, in a campaign i entered like a lvl9 cleric, i gave myself a pouch with the sulfur (For the spell said before, flame strike) and even added how much would use for spell (around)
I know y’all got past this, but the Player’s Handbook had a helpful visual that might make this easier to remember.
Imagine slots as literal slots of different sizes which spells “fit in.” Higher-level spells and spell slots are increasingly bigger. A small level 1 spell can fit in a small level 1 slot. It also expands to fill out a larger level 2 slot (sometimes with extra potency/effects). But a large level 2 spell cannot fit in a small level 1 slot.
yeah yeah, was gave a good explanation about it too
Like putting different-sized shapes in different-sized holes
and i can kinda get it, sadly i might not use it in the principal campaign im now for being a fighter champion
but at least i know how it works and how would be if i had a caster character
or how would work for my allies too
Now, i will go to the other side of the chart, the martial fighters classes.
Fighter, Battle Master, Maneuvers.
First of all, what they are? They are Extra effects i can add to some attacks or stuff i can do?
Essentially yeah
Okey, and the "Reactions" what are?
Each maneuver will have a trigger condition that tells you when you can use that maneuver
Reactions are special actions you can take outside of your turn whenever its trigger occurs
Like for example, Parry ask me for being damaged
Yup
like, for this time parry.
Others that their trigger is if an ally is being attacked inside of X range
Yup! Your only limitation is that creatures only get 1 reaction per turn
ooohhh, so if i get attacked for 2 enemies, i can only parry 1
and at teh same time, if i attack a creature and it does a reaction, it burn his reaction and an ally can do something to it
If you cause a creature to use its reaction then until its turn starts again it can’t use any more reactions, yes
in some case, use a spell that need a saving dc?
and then that creature dont have a reaction(?)
Saving against a spell doesn’t require a reaction, no
damn
I ask this of reaction too because in the principal campaign i am, the DM added a mechanic of Glory kill and one of the things you need for that too is the enemy dont having a reaction.
What uses a reaction will be explicitly stated, such as an Attack of Opportunity and the spell Counterspell
and doing a glory kill help you a lot and i want someday to see if i can do a funny, like:
Glory killing an enemy
Recharge action surge, use it
Glory kill another and again, again and again

will never happen but one can always dream
yo gng
im new at this game
Hey!! I’m new and looking to find a campaign friendly to a starting member:) pls ping or dm.

i do im so lost
Hi so lost, I’m Nugget
Someone wants help, want help helping the helpless?
sure
How can we help you?
i gotta scan my pc for malware so i need smth to pass the time lol
stupid fricken discord quests
Have you taken a look at #learn-to-play?
i want to ask quick question, is it possible to build full heal & tank paladin?
or is it better to just play priest?
Sort of possible, though healing is somewhat limited in dnd, so you're not gonna get something you might see in other rpgs where healer is a vital role for a party
Paladins exist. So do clerics.
They’re both quite tanky in dnd.
As stated, healing is a bit flawed, but truly running either can give you the power to do both healing and tanking.
I see"
Paladins are a bit more durable and deal more damage, but clerics can heal for more and have more support.
Paladins have healing baked into the base class, so I'd say absolutely.
Base line: absolutely. And many paladins are built for it.
I've tried paladin class before
but it's feels like the healing is there just for myself rather than for the party, as the dice roll can be quite bad and i keep taking damage
is that correct? or i'm playing it wrong?
Lay on hands, your baked in healing ability, doesn’t require dice and can heal anyone.
my sons want to play so i bought the starter box set but we ran through that fast while still being kind of lost lol i saw people online spend hours on it and im not sure how
And the most important healing is gonna be healing at least 1 hit point to get someone up from 0 hit points
You're generally never gonna be doing massive heals topping off people's health back to full
Unless you’re a Life Domain Cleric, and even then.
I’ve never used the set, so I can’t help you, sorry!
what do you use?
I see"
so if i want to play healer & tank, it's better to play cleric?
I got that set too recently. How was the experience? Did you just find yourselves jumping from quest to quest really fast?
being a dungeon master when I've never played before is just very difficult to grasp everything that can happen and what 2 kids 9 and 10 expect
I’m mainly a dungeon master, so I create my own worlds.
Not recommended for a first timer (creating your own universe), talking from experience
we were just lost for most of it i mean fighting was fun but then one of my sons would say lets go here and talk to someone there but without there being like a book for me to read what these people would say i just dont know what to do next
Oh absolutely. Playing dnd for the first time as a DM is a very daunting experience.
The starter set is meant to be a pretty easy intro to DMing. I've seen a video of someone use it and DM the first D&D game they ever played.
Roleplaying can be a pretty daunting task for first-time players, so I understand
There, you just gotta improv I believe. Don’t blame yourself if you don’t know what to do in that situation, it’s a common event for every DM. It’s something you pick up slowly.
lol ive heard but it was not for me i wish it would hand hold the dm more it kind of just throws you in
i believe that
Unfortunately, it’s hard to hand hold a game where you don’t control the character’s actions.
no for sure i know thats not really possible
hardest thing for me is that i know nothing of this world, if it was halo or harry potter id know what people might say and do but having a 9 year old say hey im gana go yell at thing lizard lady about zombies and need to make up a whole dialogue lol thats hard
In my experience, it either takes a very good imagination, the ability to imagine yourself in the shoes of the NPC, schizophrenia or all of the above to have a chance of getting it good on the first times
The quests are pretty one-note in the starter set. When I was practicing solo with it, I'd kinda just fill in the gaps with the little bits of info on the NPC cards. Depending on what the players share or do, they might mention the rumors printed on there. Otherwise, most folk will only need to have one task in mind whether it be running their establishment, guarding a den, robbing the players, etc.
lol sounds about right i applaud people who can do this for hours. so whats some advice youd give for me to make one up? my sons have started watching stranger things and they see how fun and exciting it can look then when i did it well it was slow and kind of boring and they asked to quit part way through
Well I’ll say this: try not to use an already existing universe from media to copy from.
very true (IMO)
I’m on board for using it as inspiration, or even maybe for a basic map design, but in my opinion it takes away from the DM’ing experience.
I don’t recommend it for the same reason I don’t recommend players copy a character from media to play as.
When it comes to running a game for kids, descriptions are probably everything. It’s tough to tackle that when you’re still learning the rules, but starting with little things like how an enemy reacts to being damaged or what your player’s spells look like are what make the game feel alive.
Apart from that, you don’t have to prep everything. Improvisation is a key part of DM’ibg, and trying to formulate hypothetical conversations in your head is something you’ll need to learn. Try to immerse them into the world with voice acting (if possible, i personally suck that this), vivid descriptions and emotional connections to the story.
Try to make them seem like a book character, not playing a video game.
yea rules are tough im slowly getting better at understanding character sheets and how to roll for certain things. we fumbled through the started story twice then i found a website selling some easy kid freindly ones and we did 1 about orcs stealing Christmas gifts and another about a birthday getting ruined by a troll and those were pretty fun
I’d recommend learning the rules first too. You should hopefully be knowing more than the players.
like a book not a game that makes alot of sense i think ive been trying to hard to make it like a game
I'd look up Peril in Pinebrook for a free, easy, pre-written adventure with minimal rules and lots of DM guidance.
ok thank you !
It only uses two kinds of dice, to give you an idea
so as the DM do i choose whats a "hit or miss" if they ask things like ill roll for trying to hear for something or looking for a key maybe
That’s called an AC (Armour class) and is dependent on the enemy
Or sorry rather it’s a DC
correct, its a DC
AC is for combat (I only saw the hit or miss part)
DC (difficulty class) is for ability checks
So I guess we have a lesson on modifiers now
ah ok ive watched people and read the rules i swear lol theres so much but in a good way
Some things always require a roll, like attacking an enemy. There's a set target number (Armor Class) that they need to beat. Other rolls may be provided by an adventure, like finding a trap/secret door, but you can make options up on the fly if you think there's a possible chance of meaningful failure.
You as the DM decide the DC of what we call ability checks, where the players wish to complete some action such as looking for a key (investigation) or sneaking around (stealth). The DC can vary from very easy (5), easy (10), medium (15), hard (20), very hard (25) or nearly impossible (30)
Players have to meet or beat the DC to complete the task successfully.
Also, I watched a video of someone trying the starter set with their friends and they didn't even get all the rules right. "You want to run? Okay, roll to see how well you run away." There's not really a 'roll to run' mechanic, but they understood D&D as a game where you roll for a degree of success and, pardon the pun, rolled with it. And it was fun for them!
To sum up: Getting rules right doesn't really matter as much as having fun playing pretend in whatever way works in the moment.
Rules are there to make the game more standardised and easy to understand, but they shouldn’t get in the way of having fun!
In this case, dnd has set movement speed depending on the character, usually around 30ft per six seconds.
Also sorry for the ping I forgot
hey guys i'm completely new to dnd and like wanna learn since i have 0 knowledge on it so i was hoping i could get help learning and all of that
Well, a good place to start is: hold for 5 seconds

Hi, been a while! Not really a newcomer but still looking for advice on a question I think I've asked before but can't find the responses to:
So, I have a party full of either martials or melee half-casters, and I'm one of two full-casters (Chronurgy Wizard, for added context).
I've made the build in the early game in such a way where I make use of Web and Rime's Binding Ice to shutdown waves of enemies before they have the chance to try anything.
However, even with the bonuses to initiative, there are melee allies (namely the Monk and High-Rolling Paladin with Alert) that go first, and run face-forward into an enemy, stopping me from casting these huge shutdown spells due to not wanting to sabotage my ally.
What can I do, in general, to... Well... Deal with this situation?
Use different spells your big shut down spells are strong yes but not always the best option
Any recommendations then?
I'd like to stick to non-damaging spells, I know what hurts but I think I can simply leave damage to the party (but pack things like Magic Missile/Fireball/Tiny Servant in case, of course)
#dnd-discussion This channel is for newcomer questions
Thanks! I'll direct my question there
Hi im new to DnD, havent played anything but i have watched different types of DnD in Youtube example like Viva La Dirt League, Magic the Noah and others what do you guys recommend me to do firts before joining my first session
I'm new to D&D I've never really played before the most I've ever seen with some kids playing at school but I would really like to try to get into it cuz it seems to be fun
If its 2024 rules, alert allows them to swap initiative with a willing creature/ally.
If they're not interested in that, either cast other spells or communicate game plans.

Reading the rules is all you need to start playing. Most of the popular D&D videos don't portray the game as it's actually played, and so may give you unrealistic expectations
hey so, i finally done my first ever character but idk where to find people to play my first session, does anyone have any recommendations?
You can check out #find-a-game #looking-for-players
Magic noah videos are a incrediblely simplyed version of dnd
I would probably recommend looking at the game rules and trying to memorise basic things like rolling to hit, damage and stuff like that
Also maybe practice makeing a character so u kinda know what to do when u join a game
hi
Hi nugget
Hallo
Are you annoyed of me yet
is a nat20 the same as crit or can it let me automatically advance with what i was rollng for like an action
In an attack roll, a natural 20 is a critical hit
It's not exactly the same thing (only as UndyingNoob mentioned). And it only means an automatic success on attack rolls and death saves, nothing else.
Ohh so if I’m rolling for an action I want to do, like investigate a statue or jump a bridge, it doesn’t automatically make it successful
exactly
May I ask why that is? It seems a bit odd that I still have a chance of failure for an action despite rolling the highest number
You'd have to ask the game designers but I think it kind of boils down to... the DM not asking folks to roll when there's no way to fail or no way to succeed.
Whereas attacks, in the midst of combat, there's always a chance to miss or hit (thus the natural 1s always missing and natural 20s always hitting).
Hey guys! Which video would you recommend on youtube to watch for a guy that doesn't know jack shit about DnD but would like to start from somewhere?
None. The Basic Rules (free) or the PHB is all you need
Hm that makes a lot of sense. Thank you
Oh alright, thanks!

Hello i found this game by accident while watching memes is it amy fun?
Yes
it is
hello, i'm new here. can someone explain what the differences between "normal" d&d games and "community" d&d games are? (and which one is better to join for a first time player like myself.)
Community games usually have a pool of DMs and players. It might be a sort of MMO where the actions of one party affect what happens in another storyline or it could just be a place where games run in parallel. Community play can be good for pick-up play as there may be more flexibility with a schedule, whereas a more traditional D&D game typically allows you to bond with a specific table of people.
Your "normal" game will typically run on a set schedule agreed among the participants. Community servers are more likely to play on an ad-hoc basis.
alright, thanks a ton you two!!

#learn-to-play and the first two sections of the rules (Playing the Game and Character Creation) should be enough of a start!
i read 2 chapters
Which 2?
i dont remeber how does it work i guess
How does the game work? That's in the rules! If you read them and have specific questions, do feel free to ask here!
The short version of D&D is this:
- The DM describes the situation.
- Each player describes what they want their character to do.
- If needed, dice are rolled (to determine success/failure).
- The DM describes the results.
ok
I’m familiar enough with the rules and have a character. I’ve only played two sessions ever tho (5 years ago) and am really wanting to get into this more.
Are you looking for a group to play with?
U also have abilitys and stuff from your class
I would probably recommend playing a barbarian, a rouge, or a fighter for your first character bc they are less complicated
Yea that’s pretty much why I’m here. I have one friend I could probably also recruit.

Just asking how exactly do i start playing dnd then do i need to bye something specific or anything all i have is dice
You don't need to buy anything. The rules are free, character sheets are free, and you can find adventures for free without resorting to stealing! Even dice can be free digital ones.
Minis, terrain, status rings, GM screens, and the like are all optional.
You don't even need dice to be honest. D&D Beyond has a dice roller, and there are other good dice roller apps.
The free Basic Rules is all you need, and a group to game with of course.

Is this about art scammers? Then yes, if someone from this server sends you an unsolicited friend request or DM, it's almost always a scam.
ye cuz i had two exact same dms and i sent my own art to one of em and then the other Dm mentioned the exact same , but this time mentioning i cant send my own art 😅 , and they both led me to the exact same Dungeon Master
where can i get or buy the dnd book thingys again?
D&D books can be found basically anywhere books are sold. Book stores, libraries, online, etc. A lot of game stores or comic stores will sell them too. You can also get digital versions. However, there is also a free version of the basic rules. If you just want to try out the game without purchasing anything, you can do so. The additional rulebooks will give you access to additional content, but it is optional
wizards of the coast still has their 2014 essentials kit rulebook pdf available for free. not the complete rules, but enough to get a player prepared for their first game. um... providing they're going by the 2014 rules...
also the 2024 rules
The basic rules for both 2014 and 2024 are available for free
An Ultimate D&D 5e Super-Bundle for DM's or DM-team, or Collectors, over $1100 of content and materials for $700.
Includes Books, PDF's, Battle Mats, everything to run games.
Includes contents from Wizards of the Coast, DM Lair, Sly Flourish , Melee Mats etc..
anything from Beadle & Grimm in there? they make some really high quality limited edition stuff.
no, sorry 🙂
Sly Flourish and Keith Ammann are like my go-to for additional info on how to run things.

thanks for the quick reply! <3
It's a public server so you will prolly encounter a lot of scams in many different ways. Stand up for yourself and say no to those who asks you to pay money to them. You don't own them anything, and scammers are a fact of discord. You will get used to ignore them
Yeah that is a bit sus even if its a legit offer.
New to dungeon mastering and I am in desperate need of guidance. Anyone got some extra time and feeling like getting in a call with me and go over some things with me?
We actually have a channel dedicated to helping DMs! Here: #dm-discussion

hi! ive never played d&d but ive learned some surface knowledge and made a character on roll 20. is there a way to transfer it to d&d beyond?
no, though recreating it should be relatively easy
that is a scam directed at newcomers specifically, because most dont understand the social dynamic
Large servers like this are infested with scammers. Don't accept unsolicited friend requests and messages.
I'm playing an unarmed wildshape druid/monk. What origin feat works well for my character? Savaged attacker would be cool but I am not sure if it works in wildshape. Otherwise I was thinking tough or tavern brawler.
Though is always a good choice. And yeah savage attacker wouldn't work in wildshape, since a beasts attacks aren't considered weapons. It's a bit of a different story if you're using the 2014 rules though.
Tavern brawer isn't needed here I think, as the unarmed strike damage from monk is already higher than the 1d4 offered by that feat.
Depending on the monk subclass you pick, it might even replicate other featues of tavern brawler, such as being able to push enemies.
Cool thanks for the advice
Hiiii I'm brand new to Dnd, watched a few campaigns and really like the concept, starting to do some more in depth research any tips?
Welcome! I’d recommend checking out #learn-to-play for the general rules!
Tips? Don’t worry about it. Have fun, try not to copy a character from media, try to be comfortable, and don’t be stressed if you don’t understand everything!
And of course, if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Tyyyyy!
Greetings, traveler!
What do you remember, and how can we help?
Could you help me define the use and definition of the term 'save throws'
and when to use them?
Some attacks require the other party to make a saving throw to minimise the effect on the opponent.
For example, fireball requires all opponents (and allies) inside its explosion range to roll a saving throw to take half damage, and if they fail they’d take full damage
It’s a d20 roll, and the DC is determined by the spellcaster’s ability score and proficiency bonus
i see
This doesn't count if it was a physical attack, although sometimes the dm might do something revolving around that if I might be right?
There are three main things you will roll a twenty-sided die for in the game:
- Attacks
- Saving Throws
- Ability checks
Saving throws are mostly around the target trying to avoid some bad effect happening.
Through in all these three, you roll a d20 and add bonuses. Here you can see an overview:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game#D20Tests
As opposed to attacks, you don't normally choose when to make a saving throw. Rather, you're forced to, in order to see if you manage to avoid something bad.
Check out the Basic Rules, it's free and updated for 2024
Hey guys, could you please direct me? Not all players can make it to our next game, so im planning little side quest. Are there some group scaling in new 2024 rulebooks? I know there were such tables in older books, but i just cannot find it in digital beyond books. Im using new monsters. When they were 4x lvl4 they could handle cr6 mobs, when heavily deplated they were fine against cr5 + some lower minion in my bag. I have no idea what 2 players can handle on lvl5. How do you adjust such encounters pls?
Here are the encounter building rules for 2024:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/dms-toolbox#Combat
In the DMG you can find them in Chapter 4 > Plan Encounters > Combat Encounters
I must be blind, thank you
New to DnD but I've played a good amount of Vampire the Masquerade.
How do you lot usually go around finding groups to play with online?

Huh? Not specifically
then look at the video linked above
Searching for a group.
I'm new so barely know anything.
Sounds like it might benefit you to read the basic rules first!
just started watching all the youtube information videos on dnd that are linked in the server guide, anyone else get like superoverwhelmed by all that new information or is it just me?
That is completely normal. Take it at your own pace. 😄
Find out what you need to know to play, and learn the rest later
i have played like 3 or 4 sessions of a campaign before, and i really enjoyed it, does anyone know how i can find players to start another one?
Hi Goobers. I’m someone that’s very interested in playing dnd. I’m new to it. I don’t really have any friends to actually give it a try with. They aren’t interested in dnd or don’t really have the time for it. But I wanna start somewhere?

Then you'll most likely be playing online in some form or another. If you have a LGS (local gaming store) nearby they may have more information for some in person stuff.
Read through #find-a-game!
Oh sick. I’ll most likely be playing online. I would definitely need to see if there is a local gaming store for information 😁
In most cases, you'll need a microphone or some way to do voice chat for the online stuff.
I have a microphone. So online stuff is no problem for me
Hi
Hello 👋
i was gonna post the one-of-us-one-of-us gif, but then i remembered i can't post gifs in here

The rules linked above and #learn-to-play are a good start! Welcome to the server.
BTW does anyone know if it's okay if I send and invite to someone
well, my go-to used to be to direct people to the Essentials Kit rulebook pdf that WotC had up. but that was for the 2014 rules. and they've no longer made it easy to access it. so far they don't have an equivalent for the 2024 rules, aside from their basic free rules which are spread out across a number of pages and require internet access.
To the server? That should be fine!
ok question, i'm trying to find some channels on youtube so i can watch campaigns and learn a little here and there by watching it. so far i've got critical role and dimension 20 (pretty sure that's what it's called?) but if anyone knows a good or fun channel to check, please don't hesitate to let me know!!
those are pretty up there in production value and not exactly a representation of the awkward silences, botched words, and pauses to look up rulings that often happen in regular sessions.
I know Oxenventure is pretty highly praised. A lot of other channels I can think of are audio-only. Not sure if that's what you're after.
Nerd Poker (which is for sure NSFW) seems to be closer a normal table. though they are professional comedians. still, they'll go off on a tangent that not even game related for like 10 minutes and then realize they're actually playing a game and still recording.
yeah i figured, i'm watching critical role rn on the tv screen and a creative director just introduced themselves so i figured it's probably not very realistic like you said haha
that sounds very much like something i'd be into, do you watch it yourself too? like can you recommend it?
Nerd Poker is audio only. i recently finished up The Mountain Campaign.
i'll check it out! thank you so much
i'll check it out! what platform is it on?
Legends of Avantris (also very NSFW) is higher production value, and most of it devolves into crazy shenanigans.
Oxenventure is on YouTube. High Rollers as well. For audio-only, some of the biggies are Not Another D&D Podcast, Girls Who Don't D&D, and Dungeons & Daddies.
Nerd Poker's on various podcasts. You could check out Old Men Rolling Dice. they have some good actual plays from a fairly low production value.
dungeons & daddies? i'm so sorry but that is hilarious
anything i think of i just see in front of me
thanks so much for these recommendations, i'm so excited
I forget the name of the one with Jeff Goldblum. Also forgot the name of the one with Vin Diesel, and a few other famous people. although those are all high production.
You might like when Old Men Rolling Dice played White Plume Mountain. I can't remember if it was using 5e rules or 2e rules.
THE GUY FROM THAT ONE DINOSAUR MOVIE 😆
he was also in Team Darryl.
people are so creative with their names, i'm just dying on my couch haha
Oh yeah, I almost forgot about when No Quest for the Wicked did their Loom of Severed Strands podcast series. That one was fun.
umm is there anywhere to find a group to play with? like online or something

tyy
you are a godsent, i haven't used discord in maybe 5 years? and are just now trying it out again just for this so thank you
it took me a stupid amount of time to realize i could search by day
could do the same thing for time zone
Hi guys ive been playing for like 2 years in a campaign its just ended was wondering if anyone on here had any open spots in a campaign
Check #looking-for-players!
Gg thank you
Hello there! I am new here and also have been wondering about finding a campaign for me and my friend. i looked at #looking-for-players but we couldnt find anything that fits our timezone (GMT+2, Saturday and Sunday), age (17 & 22) or experience since we are both absolutely new to DnD after our DM cancelled the campaign after a year of waiting for it to start. Any advice on where we can find something maybe? Help is very much appreciated!
I made a guide full of other avenues to check out: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1rjwuod1lNBM5n4X_TH2ZoqTULv53jWaVMXtrzKVboms/edit?tab=t.0

Hi nugget! Nice to see you!
just here to say hi
That’s fine!
How ya doin?
Just had some dumplings
I haven’t had dumplings in years
i like Dyno ^_^
WE like dyno
yay collective we energy 😄 i hope to join a game soon
is there any new games that i could join. i'm new to DND so i would have to learn some of the basics .
I’d recommend learning the basics first, so go to #learn-to-play first. Theres some free rules on there.
it's not so different from when i played last time that's good. i only played 2 times so i thought something would have changed.
When did you last play?
We only got an update to the game in 2024 since 2014 in terms of core rules
3 or 4 years ago
Then yeah, the only change would be 5.5e, and that’s just a mega update
Core gameplay and classes are the same, minus the artificer
wait tha's a class now. Finally!!

No it’s not in 2024 rules
Artificer has been an official 5e class for about 6 years now, since 2019
It isn’t updated for the 2024 rules yet but it’s compatible with 2024 content. The update for it comes out in December
I literally played this game once
And it was when I cheated with loaded dice
Yes I played to be petty
But I'm interested now because my best friend does this
Well check out #learn-to-play and the free D&D basic rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/free-rules
So many new comers glad to see all 🫴🧞🔮
well you could flail about but it makes it harder for folks who carve out 3-4 hours of time to sit down and play a game together to want and bring you on if you don't really show a willingness to try and learn on your own before the game even begins. They want to play a game in their precious time, not spend the majority of it going over things you could have learned with some reading time.
That's not to say folks don't enjoy taking on new to D&D folks in their games - just that you increase your chance of finding a game when you've spent some effort trying to learn how the game works.
That was a joke for those who know
I didn't. No indicators to indicate joking.
But welcome to D&D - an amazing, collaborative, storytelling RPG game full of fun!
@long garden glad to see you're keeping the yugioh spirit alive! xD
Exactly, I negate my own card, then read it
ok i got another question since i got here earlier, i found this campaign to join - this will be my first - and it's going to start in about two weeks. i am going to work on my character (probably going to try and draw her myself, wish me luck). would you recommend using the tool on dnd beyond to flesh out my character or does anyone have any good tips for my first time
And realized I singlehandedly lost my own game
Because I didn't read the words on a card
