bro do i need to create any account to play dnd online
Yes
no
wth
i mean it depends how you’re playing
ddb?
dnd beyond
bro
some people just use character sheets online
i tried but there are so many settongs
ddb really isn’t needed
to chooose and it overwhelms me\
i prefer just looking up the wizards of the coast sheet template
and filling in the pdf with character options
To keep track of your character
bro cant i just make like a discord server
why is there so many settings bro this is overwhelming
Before making a character you should read the first chapters of the basic rules
the first four specifically

bro i did
its just to create a profile there are like 20 settings
and i dont wanna mess it up
for what?
how would a discord work that makes no sense
just type in stuff lol
That would be way harder than this, this tells you what you need to put in
And has options to select
You can get a formal fillable pdf character sheet here - https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/character-sheets
@sour notch here!
""Advancement Type
Story-based character progression / XP-based character progression"
Uhhhhhhh
like bro why does this matter
While d&d beyond is a nice tool for d&d its not necessary. Some people like it, others don't. You have multiple options to keep track of your sheet
Nova Help me please-
Could someone teach my friend the basics? Would be a great help, thank you! 😊
(I'm not a good teacher lol)
I’m new here
some people used milestone and others use XP
Because there are different rules for gaining experience and leveling up depending on what your dm chooses
have them read the rules
whats the damn difference bruv'
ok
Honestly. Don't worry about until you get into a game
xp means after each encounter you input an amount of xp that accumulates into a levelup
but am i able to change the settings
milestone is for the DM to choose based off when it works for the story, XP is leveling based on in game encounters
milestone means you level up when your dm tells you to
yes
nuh uh
None of the settings really matter until you get a dm and they tell you what to use for the game they are running.
bruh so what if i have different settings from a diff person in my campaign. ill just be getting xp on each kill and he will need to wait for dm to give xp
each campaign ahs all characters level the same
please read the rules
bro so why do the ask for how to get xp if its all the same
its not
thats the fun part
The dm chooses for the table. Everyone's at the table will be the same. The choice is there because different tables use different rules
ohh
Not every table even uses d&d beyond
what is dnd beyong
thankfully
d&d beyond is the main way to make characters online
the site you're using?
can i still use dnd beyond to track my profile even if they dont use it?
it depends on the DM
plus there isn't really a profile, it's more different characters
Please read the basic rules
zamn
we may have dndThis'd him out of existence
real
eh skill issue
Let's be respectful to others, like the rules that we agreed to when we joined this server state
Should we... follow the rules as written or as intended though? Or is it based on mod fiat?
both ig
depends on the circumstance, in this instance no rules have been broken. unless theres a mod fiat on being respectful to others.
only rule that could be applied here is naming and shaming, only person i even remotely minutely named or shamed was dunl with an emoji
Cool. You've admitted to it, maybe you should stop doing it.....
if that grounds for disciplinary action then cool
can it really be called shaming if youre proud of it dunl?
Hey I’m BRAND NEW to this stuff and was wondering about character restriction. So what is the lengths that you allow characters to get reach (like cannibal, racist, sexist, or flat out insane)
DM’s discretion
Ultimately depends on your DM and group
(Apologizes bc I’m brand new) what does DM mean?
Can someone tell me a little bit more about dnd I’m completely new, a video also does the trick
Dungeon Master, they run the game

Thank you
These topics are usually best discussed with your DM and group in what is usually called a "Session 0" which is kinda like a pre game talk about what boundaries and expectations are for the game. This is also like a time to say "this is gonna be a very social game" or "I'm not comfortable discussing harm done to children, so I would like it to not be brought up in game" type of things
Oh wow thanks, that really helped I greatly appreciate the “in-depthness”
slides in here hey guys
Yeah, it's been a real push in the hobby lately to try and make sure session 0s have more importance, especially with a brand new group. Maybe you've been playing with people for a while and know what's ok and whats not, but a new group could have their own boundaries that they aren't ok with and it's good to have a semi formal time to bring those limits up. And, it's also a good time to bring up what people do want to see. Like maybe a player wants to have a revenge story about their character, so brining it up session 0 let's a DM incorporate it better
i feel like it’s good to have even with an old friend group
just to make sure boundaries haven’t changed and to set expect for a new campaign
Yup, even if it's just a quick like 5 minutes
Thank you so much that really helped me!
So the first thing I would recommend you do is read the (free) Basic Rules.
Basic Rules PDF
https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/DnD_BasicRules_2018.pdf
Basic Rules on D&D Beyond
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
I also highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-LWHhiseE&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN&index=1
No problem, glad to help
Is it hard to learn?
It can be overwhelming with all the rules but just learn the fundamentals instead of trying to memorize everything.
The tutorial videos linked above is a great resource.
Yup!
Plenty of people play via online tools like just discord or a virtual tabletop like roll20
K
A lot of people played virtually during the pandemic (that probably contributed in a huge spike of new players).
Is it smart to make a character even tho you don’t have people to play with?
Yes, so you get to learn how to create characters before joining a game.
Just make sure you know that different people's games may have different requirements for characters, like some games might require you to all have the sailor background, or some might have a different method for stats, so it's good to go through the process but just remember you might have to remake them when you get into a game
Is there a tool for that or rules or a list or something?

Glad to see you guys put such an emphasis on setting boundaries and expectations with a session 0. I like to do the same when I recruit people into my raid groups. Did it for my last group and that one stayed together for 2.5 year and we're still good friends.
Yeah, it can be a bit awkward at first, but making sure people k own what's expected makes for so much better game play
Indeed. It's happened to me so many times that people get on each other's nerves later down the line just because they had different expectations

not all games exclude minors
If you are too young for the finder, that means you are probably too young to be on discord
You should probably work with them to help you find a game they are comfortable letting you play then
been in this server for ages, been wanting to start a campaign with my friends for ages, and now they've finally buckled and are now getting ready
pray for me

Hello there
hi
So how does finding people work for online DnD
you can post in #750812887697588356 or respond to posts in #looking-for-players
Is dm for dungeon Master
yeah
Ok I am pretty new and wanted try this out eventually
have you read the basic rules?
I have read a lil bit
Hey. There's a thing i don't understand
As long as youve read the first 4 chapters you should be fine
ye?
When im in combat, but i don't use a map, how will others know where exacly did i move?
In general, if you're playing without a map, "exact" positioning shouldn't matter TOO much - so long as everyone can agree.
So for example, it's probably more important to know that an enemy is range of Magic Missile rather than they're actually 65 ft away (and thus in range of a Magic Missile).
Theater of the mind (a common term for such game styles) will generally be left to the DM to inform you of where people are in relation to you, and yeah exact positions don't matter nearly as much.
But how do i know how many speed do i have left then?
You just say you move your 30 feet and describe where you are going
Ok
You can say like, "I move up 20 feet, shoot my bow, and then back off ten"
And while the map isn't there, the dm will know you aren't immediately next to the enemy, bur that they would have to move towards you
Usually, just by counting. A standard game, if it uses battlemaps, is played on a 5x5ft grid, and diagonal moves are also counted as 5. So it's just a matter of "I can move six squares, including diagonals".
You didn't read the upper part
Ah sorry yeah missed that. My apologies
One question. What does atack bonus do?
When you make an attack roll you add your modifiers and proficiency bonus (assuming you're proficient with the weapon). This is your attack bonus.
So for example a level 1 fighter with a strength of 16 attacks with a one-handed longsword. The player would roll a d20, add the strength modifier (+3) and the proficiency bonus (+2) to calculate the final result. So let's say the player rolled a 15. 15 + 3 (strength modifier) +2 (proficiency bonus) to get the final result of an unnatural 20.
Can you explain dungeon master to me I am confused
The dungeon master is the head of the game. Its like the code of a video game. He explains your enviroment, and narrates what happen after your action
Install the DnD Beynod app on your phone or visit the website for more info
The DM is more like a referee, in a collaborative story. They are in charge of everything that isn't the players, they act out the shopkeepers the kings the monsters, they describe the environment, they try and make sure the rules are being followed. But it's a collaborative game, you as a player are helping that too and everyone is trying to make the game enjoyable for everyone

Hello everyone! I'm new here. Nice to meet y'all ! I've heard about DnD over the years and I finally decided I could give it a try anytime soon c:
@trim tinsel You can use our game finding channels to find a D&D game. Check out #find-a-game for information on how to do so
Yes I tried to.. It's not efficient
Finding D&D games is not an "efficient" process
There are a ton of players all looking for games and much fewer DMs and fewer DMs that fit whichever criteria you have, be that time zones or game style etc
It's one of patience; you have to keep looking and putting yourself out there
👆
Well, Its disappointing for someone who's looking to join the community
Finding games is not the same as joining the community
Just by being here, looking for games and talking, you're part of the community
The community is easy to join: you're already in it! Finding an actual game to play is another thing. Keep trying, or look to see if anyone is available on any game stores near you.
Just remember: by definition, a game requires someone to run it. That means someone willing to put the time and effort into guiding a group of other people through a 2+ hour session. Finding folks who are willing to do that isn't always easy, and managing to find one who has an empty slot to play is even harder. Most of all, patience is required!
There's also a ton of other places to look for games in conjunction with here, it's encouraged to expand your looking to many sources or to just be patient and keep an eye out
Here’s a collection of such other places to find games/groups. https://tinyurl.com/TTRPG-LFG
I’m new to dnd so I got a question that may just be stupid , but are particular races more suited to certain classes. Like you think an elf would be a better mage and a half orc a barbarian. But i don’t see anything that relates other than some class passives
It used to be the case that some races granted specific bonuses that lent themselves well to particular classes, but at this point, the design has shifted so any race can be any class without issue!
Thankyou for clearing that up. Allows me to be a lot more creative 😂
That rule is in Tashas, if you want to check it out and make sure your DM k ows about it
Character creation preferences will differ from DM to DM, so do make sure you find one before you fall in love with a character toooo much!
Also, while the stat boosts are now portable, some race features will still be more useful to some classes than others. For instance, half orc savage attacks and relentless endurance, are naturally complementary to a martial character.
Tasha's also gives "custom lineage", which can be used to give up those race benefits for a feat instead.
Im new and want to start learning to play , But not sure how . So i joined this server .
Welcome!

Have you read the Basic Rules yet?
No
Well, you should start there.
Read the free Basic Rules (at least the first four chapters on character creation).
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Both are linked above.
hi
Ahoy!
me and @tall musk have no idea how to play DnD
Check out the bot post above from Dyno, it contains the links you need to check out: the basic rules, and some intro videos ☺️
thank you, hopefully we can join a new campaign soon
You know, it can be a two player game! If you are struggling to find a campaign, it can be as easy as starting one yourselves.
sounds good, mght be able to drag another frined into it
i have a weird question, can dnd be played solo or is it really hard.
ive heard
some people can play solo but its seems bland and hard are there better games for solo?
the reason im aksing is becasue i have trouble finding friends and i dont have any also i like in a bland part of town and im scared to drive.
Solo is more akin to the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. D&D is meant to be a collatorative group game.
You can find strangers to play with online, such as in #find-a-game
that makes sens and thanks, also ima bit scared to play with strangers you know also i have to help my fmaily around the house and such.
also i stink at spelling
D&D isn't designed for solo play, but folks have made some workarounds. There are tabletop games that are built for solo play (such as Thousand Year Old Vampire), but they're still not the same as the social collaboration as D&D or other similarly designed TTRPGs.
If you mispell something, Discord will underline it in red. Right click on the word to see the suggestion for the proper spelling.
thank the both of you for letting me know
Check out your local game/hobby stores, schools, and/or library for D&D groups to play in person.
Hey me and my friend @velvet tapir are looking for a dnd to join but we can’t find one we can agree on we can’t find one at all can someone help us? If that’s ok

I am looking to run a game with some friends and we have no idea what we are doing where would you recommend we start to get things rolling as a team
When you say you have “no idea” what do you mean?
we are looking to play the game for the first time
Have you read basic rules? Or, (how I did it) just watched a long ass series of people playing it that kinda taught you the rules?
im currently reading rules and how to play but want to make sure I am getting the best info
Follow on, Lost Mines of Phandelver is free on D&D Beyond and is a good starting adventure for a bunch of new people
You entire table should read the rules, not just you
Damn autocorrect. Every time I mistype people into poeple is changes it to POEPLE
For some stupid reason
Ill look it up that could be helpful and we will I would just like to be able to help explain things where I can
It’s fine to have one person who knows it better and knows the niche stuff, but everyoen needs to know how to play
How's the lfg on this server? Any horror stories? I have two very scuffed campaigns under my belt and I really want to get back into this game. So just yknow curious how the taking on new players space is like on here?
hello
Hello there!
I experienced my first one shot DND session yesterday. I want more of the DND good stuff.
Glad it went well for you!
bye'
Any best moments stand out for you?
A companion who was also inexperienced that thought throwing a sword at the enemy with another companion in between was a good idea... It was not because it ended up in our companion's leg 😂
oh dear 😆
That definitely let me laugh out loud 😂
Now I need to find people/ a DM to gain more experience and to have fun with.
Check out #find-a-game
Already put out an advert (I think) : S
hi everyone
Hello!
Hi! I’m new here too. Um, I’m not sure if there’s a specific channel I should ask this,, but what’s the different between a Paid D&D and Unpaid D&D, and how much does the Paid D&D cost (And is that like a subscription or a one-time pay)?
The individual DM sets the rate for their own games. It could be a rate per session, or it could be per hour. Unpaid games are just that: no money involved.
Most games are free, some DMs put a lot of effort and work into their games and use it as a service of sorts so it can depend on what they think their time and effort is worth. Usually it can vary from a couple of dollars to potentially 20-30, it all depends. Don't feel pressured to play in paid ones either, it's just a different experience
Hi I want to learn so I can program a bot to play
My understanding is that paid games do have the advantage of cutting down on people flaking on the game, but yeah, do what works for you. There are enough venues out there to find games that you should be able to land on something that gels with your schedule and style.
Check the pinned messages in this channel for our starter resources!
i believe they're looking to figure out how to program something like chatgpt
to DM
Right, but they said they want to learn the game to program it, so the pinned messages would still be helpful for the first part.
Okay, thank you guys. Um.. I do have one more question, I’m sorry, I don’t really understand how to post that I’m looking for a campaign to join (I would prefer a free one because I am ✨broke✨), I’ve been playing D&D for a while (I’m just not familiar with doing it on Discord or such) and would like to explore home brew and options outside of the main 3 books..? If that makes sense?

Hello all
hey
hi
I'm trying to find a group to play with so what do I do?
Check out #find-a-game - read through it to see various ways you can fiund a group/game to join.
Anyone from NZ here?
With a server this large, there's likely a few NZ folks out there. That said, please remember to not solicit or give out personally identifiable information as per the server rules.
Understood. Was hoping a country was general enough to not be a problem.
You're fine - just don't get into "what town are you from?" or even more detail.
Got it.
So many rooms. Trying to find a place where a new DM can ask a few questions. Think I need map help so guessing #dnd-maps is where I go.
also don't disclose your exact age - we have to clean that up a lot as moderators and issue a lot of warnings. lol
Try #dm-discussion - #dnd-maps is more about sharing D&D-related maps.
You can also use the id:browse to see all the various channels.
Cool, will do. thx
Bro why is it so hard to get in a campaign bro💀
I’ve submitted for like 6 and each one the dm is like “actually you don’t suite us” or “this campaign no longer supports my schedule”
Like dawg just give me a chance💀
Haven’t even gotton to RPing yet
it's just one of the inherent problems with online games, the benefit of being able to join games quickly is also the weakness where it can fall apart so much easier
Finding a game takes time, let alone finding one that you really mesh with. Take your time and cast your net wide
@harsh sage DMs are pretty selective with online players, you really need to vet them or they can kill your game with either behaviour or availability. But if you keep at it, like @pseudo frost said; you'll likely find a match.
Yeah yeah, it gets to the point where I made my character/backstory and then it cuts off
This isn't just for online games either. The same goes for in person as well
So I don’t even get the chance. But I am a patient and I really appreciate the advice
Sorry, the reaction was to @pseudo frost.
Can you please stop pinging me 🙏
Oh, is that what that is. Sorry
@harsh sage Consider playing in a bunch of one shots! It'll hold you over until you find that right group and can introduce you to people who may invite you to join a long-term game! I've been invited to a few campaigns after having a good time with folks in a one off.
Yeah I haven’t even began a campaign yet so a one shot sounds really nice
I'd be happy to give you a chance but I'm only running a campaign for my family at home for the moment and don't have time to do an online one, nor I think the current relevant knowldge.
I appreciate the sentiment
One shots can be super fun, I run then all the time and I'd be willing to have you hop in one. It takes time and patience to find a solid group to go long-term with, but its worth it. If you want in on a one shot (Ill prob be running one within the next week) feel free to add me 🤘
Quick question where should I go for asking questions about what is and isn't possible
What's your question?
I had a few ideas I wanted to run by some people and see if they would be possible
Well 1 is if multiple of your characters backgrounds could intertwined to make a bigger story
Multiple of your own characters?
Yes
Typically you make a character specific for a campaign
If you’re playing multiple campaigns with the same DM in the same shared world, it’s possible.
But that’s something you’d need to work out with your DM.
Alrighty the 2nd question I had was about a possible item that I just wanted to see what people thought about
A homebrewed item?
Yeah at least I think it is
All homebrew is subject to dm discretion
In short it's a deck of magic card each is able to do something different, for instance let's say spades explode and depending on the number you use will be how powerful it is, of course once you use a card you can't get it back
If you're starting at level 1, your character most likely wouldn't start with a magic item, especially something that powerful.
Yeah I figured I just wanted to see what people thought of it
DMs are the ones who typically hand out magic items as loot.
Honestly, I would wait for the Book of Many Things to come out and see what kinda stuff is in there, because that sounds like it could fit right in
Alrighty
Talk to your DM. What we think doesn't matter if they say no.
Still new to dnd only played one really heavy hombrewed game and it ended at session 3
Hello people I don't know.
Hello
While you are learning, I would stick with the official content until you get your feet under you
Yeah still getting ready to find a game to join
Has anyone had a game where they got vividly described how they died?
Nope. My groups aren't really into that
It wasn't even an honorable death, I died by missing a jump.
I found it very funny though.
I remember one time i made one npc mad so they pulled out this giant sword and whacked me with it i then proceeded to turn into a tree
Very interesting and more honorable I think?
Nope
Guy straight up cut me in half
For me there was a moving platform, I jumped to it and my foot got caught on it, I proceeded to flip backwards into a hole.
I couldn't simply just fall
Yea lmao
I love playing with my group, they like to do custom stuff that makes it amazing to play.
Yea i havent really tried normal dnd yet but homebrew seems to be really fun
We love to add in depth npc's and focus of quests along with the expanding world.
homebrew is definitely my favorite but normal is really good.
help i don’t know how to create character sheets
What part are you having difficulty with?
If youre using dnd beyond your character sheet will show up after you fully make your character
You can even customize it too which is pretty cool
The only thing about DDB, it doesn't actually help you learn how more than it does it for you.
Guess i can see your point
But why not search up how to afterall we are on the internet
youtube is a thing as well
Yea
Hence why I ask what part they are having issues with. You do realize this channel is for new players to ask questions and others to help right? If your answer to everything is just use the internet and youtube, why bother?
Well im just giving the solution
*A solution. Not the only one
The internet is so big nowadays the answers gotta be somewhere
its a suggestion as are all the things that are said here
i mean, tutorials are useful
But hey lets be honest here guys this is a helping channel not an arguing one
Lets stay positive
But like i said if your using dnd beyond your character sheet will show up after completing your character if not see if you can find a tutorial over the internet and as always i wish you the best of luck
how frequently do you end your sessions on cliffhangers?
Just a question, do some of you guys punish players for going in a trap?
No, the trap is punishment as it is for the character.
Why would I punish them more than what the trap does?
I have seen some people have the players get absolutely punished for traps I was just wondering.
I would ask in #character-discussion
Define the "punishment" they got for triggering the trap beyond what the trap did?
They died a very detailed and instant death (or quick)
Very unforgiving
So if a PC fell into a 10' deep pit that would normally just do 1d6 points of damage the DM would cause more damage?
That's a very "DM vs player" DM and I would leave that table if that's the norm for that DM.
My friend died to a very mechanical trap then others, but normal pit traps and basic ones don't insta-kill. I forgot to clarify.
Still, it wasn't very forgiving even so.
Have you ran into any custom made traps?
pit traps as in just a hole in the ground ye?
does anyone have a free code for the player handbook?
no im asking if someone bought one of those packs and got a spare
Basic rules are free
Oh
If you already have a digital item they don’t give you it again in bundles
They just remove the price from the bundle
So I don’t think anyone would have a duplicate
But as enoki said basic rules are free
good to know thanks
Hello all I am new to the channel and was wondering how I would go about finding a group to play with any help is appreciated
#find-a-game has all the info, any problem ask here again
Ok thank you
I have a question as someone newish to dnd, what’s the worst thing you can do as a DM?
Kill your players or make it super miserable for them
That's not really within the scope of this channel, which is more about covering the basics
If you want to get advice on DM'ing, I would recommend checking out #dm-discussion , however I would suggest asking more specific/constructive/postive questions
Oh sorry I didn’t know
I was just wondering what not to do as a DM, because I want to improve
And make the game fun for my players
Hello im new
Welcome!
I hope you're having fun playing D&D!
No worries about budget - technically all you need is the free basic rules/SRD materials to play D&D.
It looks quite good
Yeah you are right
Nice! Have you seen our #dnd-arts-and-crafts and #dnd-minis channels yet? Folks post their various D&D related arts and minis in those channels.
Yes
hello i am new here
Welcome have you looked at the pinned message in this channel for free rules and other stuff
yes
I was going to submit my form
?
the form where you look for games
Im new and interested in learning how to get
in dnd . Ive been listening to critcal roll , Its what got me liken it ,
Hello I’m a somewhat beginner to D&D, and I was hoping someone can explain a few things to be while I create my character so I can hopefully better understand the given info provided to me
I have an question also do i create my character now or do i wait for a dm>
It's not a bad idea to take a stab at it...in fact, make a few! But when you find a DM they might want you to redo some parts, like if they have a preferred method for choosing ability scores.
If you get very attached to your character now, it might be disappointing if you only find a table that needs a Cleric or a Fighter or whatever
Ok
@real wind do you still need help?

So know the basic rules of dnd and I have read a few books and watch alot of game play but I'm struggling on character sheets and do I have to be good at voice acting to dm
Not in the slightest
Not in any way whatsoever
Voice acting, miniatures and maps, accessories, all that stuff is super optional
And what are you struggling with when it comes to character sheets?
-If you have any questions specifically about character sheets, we'd be happy to answer them
-You definitely do NOT need to be good at voice acting to DM. I know a lot of people have gotten into the game because of content like Critical Role and Dimension 20, but please keep in mind that those are professionals that have built up skills over an entire career of acting and voice acting. Someone who just started running doesn't need to keep up with Usain Bolt
To be honest, you don't even need to aim to match them if you want. Voice Acting is a specific DM style. Everyone can develop their own style
Yeah I have watched alot of critical role and some not from critical role as well and they all are extremely good at it irl ain't confident at all I have role played quite alot and know how to make a decent character From experience but i have never actually played the game since I don't have the equipment for it yet
it’s unrealistic to hold yourself to the standards of Matthew Mercer or Brennan Lee Mulligan just like it’s unrealistic to expect your players to be Liam O’Brien or Marisha Ray
Like the dc slots and all the numbers and how person get ac ect
That's all described in the rules
Check out the section on building a character in the basic rules, then the section on combat
Yeah exactly that I mean i know they are all professional voice actors
Thank you so much
AC, for example, is described here in chapter one:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters#ArmorClass
Heyo,new player, question,how can i fond a campaign available,i dont understand how #find-a-game works,even after i read everything
If you're looking to join as a player, I'd start by replying to games posted in #looking-for-players.
If you want to submit a post of your own, type /looking-for dm. You'll get a private form to fill out and submit.
Thanks,helped a lot
As a quick explainer, #find-a-game is a channel with a bot, that automates your posts for you. The "looking for" channels like #looking-for-players or #750812887697588356 is where the posts will actually go. If you, as a player, want a DM to reach out to you, then you go to #find-a-game and use the bot there to make a post in #750812887697588356. Perspective DMs browse that channel and reach out to people who have posted there, to try to find players that fit their schedule and playstyle. If you don't want to make your own post and would rather browse through ones made by DMs that want new players (or if you want to do both), then you can go to #looking-for-players and see what has been posted there. The #find-a-game channel is just kinda the hub/control center for the bot that automates everything, but the actual games are in other channels
Ohhh, makes sense now, thanks for the clarification
This should get pinned tbh^
How do I decide on a character . And how to I find a group of beginners to play with ?
#find-a-game will help, specifically #looking-for-players
How do you decide on a character is kinda up to you.
If you're new, such classes as Barbarian, Fighter and Rogue are kind of best
Should I worry too much about the meta or should I just focus on aesthetic for characters?
Depending on what meta you're talking about.
Up to you. I don't bother with meta and just focus on what sounds fun.
I really Like this beats playing world of Warcraft
Barbarian for sure. Raw brutality mixed with some fanatical stuff
Where do I type looking for players
Skim the classes and races, and try to develop multiple character concepts. Those will probably need to be tweaked once you get to a game/table, so don't set your heart on one idea.
Go to #looking-for-players, you'll find a plenty of DM's looking for players
Or, usually pick something you know from fiction, because with DnD... you can be everyone. From Alucard, to Goku and etc.
nicedo i need to buy anything to start out dnd ?
Sure, with the caveat that things from other media only sort of translate into D&D.
Nope, dice and character sheets can be digital. Tokens and maps are optional. The Basic Rules are free.
where do i find the maps and digital dice sorry last question

In DND Beyond, you already have a set of free digital dice. But you'll find more digital dice in DnD Website store
Just Google dice roller or dnd dice roller. Same for maps: dnd maps, battlemaps, town maps, etc.

No problem, have fun
is there groups out there that will let u listen to learn ?
I mean, approach a DM who would be running a game for newbies
There's lots of 'real play' games on youtube that you can watch. If you get stuck and confused about what happens, you can always ask for clarification here.
thanks again

Hello everyone
Welcome!
Hello im a new player interested in DnD sooo if i get alot of facts wrong please feel free to correct me
Same here
I actually have a question.
Why are rangers portrayed as the worst class?
Welcome!
Mainly for memes, and the echo chamber of people complaining from when it first released. Rangers are great.
A good number of its class features need you to really work with your DM to get the most out of them.
Ohhhh, so rangers are actually decent? However i did see a meme about wizards dying of 1d4 damage and instantly dying. Is this true?
For example, if you choose Celestials as your Favored Foe, and then never fight a Celestial...
It’s possible, but so contrived I’d argue about saying it’s a common experience.
Some of the newer ranger choices, like the optional class features in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, do a good job of introducing more broadly useful abilities that don't rely on the DM as much.
I’ve made a wizard before ( his name is Merlin and i love him) and he only have 6 hit points
As for wizards, they start with the lowest possible hit die size, which means a generally low max HP.
They also can't generally use armor (though their are spells like Mage Armor that can be used in its place).
You'd need a pretty poorly-built wizard to get killed by a single d4, though. (One with -2 CON or worse.)
Thank you so much for this information
Yeah you’d be safe from that D4, then.
But 2? Nah your mega dead there
Yup.
Why doesnt anyone trust a low dexterity wizard?
Because he CANTRIP at any moment
Why do necromancer wizards love graveyard humor?
Everyone DIGS it
Head on over to #dm-discussion to ask questions and for advice.
Thanks!
Roll a dex save with disadvantage🤣
I forgot what features mean can someone explain please really quickly
Features in which regard? Like a class feature?
Both class and race
I'm making a homebew character atm and I have no clue what to put as features
It's a trait you get as a race/class.
Elves get the darkvision racial feature, for example.
Homebrewing in creating a new race/class?
Yeah I have a subclass as a homebew
If you’re new, you should stick to existing official material
Or do you mean you're creating a character.
Learn the system first before you break it
Yeah, learn the official stuff before you create your own because you don't know what's gameplay balanced or not
Especially if you don't have the blessing of a DM (I don't allow homebrew races/classes)
I have done I'm just messing around in all honesty I don't have a dm or anything like that yet
Perhaps you can look at other classes and races that exist beyond the one you picked
Familiarize yourself with the class features of your character
All stuff which will make your first play more smooth
Hi I just joined I am looking for a campaign I have a character already made
Check out #find-a-game

ok thanks you
Hi
After you read the rules and/or watch the videos, you can ask questions here.
ok perfect
May I suggest getting dnd beyond
D&D Beyond is for character sheets.
Just read the rules for now without worrying about the character sheets.
True
Generally I’d recommend characters made without a group or DM to be “practice” characters as you’ve no idea what character creation rules your eventual DM will use.
What did you make?
I made a ranger aarakocra level 1 I made it on dnd beyond with my brother who is a dm
Oi
Ahhh well if you're playing with that DM then it should be all fine and dandy. Just know there's many that aren't fans of racial flight, so you may have to change up the concept when you find a group
I also have a halfling rouge level 1 same story for being made
hiii, I just wanna know if there are any like resources online for basic rules and other stuff that I can print off for games as an aspiring DM??
Free Basic Rules
Basic Rules PDF
https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/DnD_BasicRules_2018.pdf
Basic Rules on D&D Beyond
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Elemental Evil Player's Companion
https://media.wizards.com/2015/downloads/dnd/EE_PlayersCompanion.pdf
I didn’t know the eepc was free
Yup!
Ahh thank you!!
Hi, I'm new to dnd, what should I do first
I suggest giving the free basic rules a read through: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Maybe watch some videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN
Maybe watch some folks playing D&D (check out YouTube and Twitch for D&D liveplays).
Then try your hand at creating a character - see free basic rules again to learn how to do that.
Then find a group and start playing! (See #find-a-game for info on how to find a group to play D&D with)
And welcome!
I'm just trying to find someone I can talk to about dnd...I thought this giant dnd server would have someone open to that but apparently not...
There are lots of folks around ready to discuss different aspects of D&D here (via text).
But also, the way this server works may not fit what you're specifically looking for. Feel free to use Discord's "Explore Discoverable Servers" and the #looking-for-community to find other D&D servers that may even have voice chat. Use at your own risk and all that.
Is it possible to play D&D alone
D&D is designed around being a social collaborative story telling RPG game. The idea is that there's one DM and 3-6 players.
There are some folks who have put together rules so it's possible to play D&D alone but it's not really the same experience.
Look for "Solo D&D" and see what pops up on the internet - I unfortunately don't have any links/resources to point you to.
Alright, thank you
Ginny Di’s video is a good overview and there are some handy links in the description: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c2nVilB8QeY
^ There's a resource! Thanks iamrazorwing!
Thanks!
something else you could search for are single player table-top roleplaying games
@frozen wharf I am also into solo DnD and the best guide I've found is 'The Solo Adventurers Guide's on DMs Guild - it is talked about in Ginny Dis video and I have found it to be amazing!
Thank you
Hi I apologize for the ping but I recommend reading the rules as Undying stated and I recommend watching Legends of Avantis on YouTube they are really awesome people and watching their campaigns are both informative and entertaining. I’m new as well and I learned a lot about gameplay from watching their campaigns!
or alternatively watch Vox Machina
Vox machina doesnt really show the game being played though - its an animated dramatization
meant the campaign
it feels a lot more like an actual play than The Mighty Nein or Bells Hells
MIGHTY NEIN

I know play by post is a thing and convenient but i encourage everyone to try to find a table. The group setting is magic
Sameee my friend led me here
I’ve played a game before but still confused for the most part lolol
It’s cool to see I’m not the only one
I'd rather get a bunch of newbies
As a dm I would much rather have one or two new players and the rest experienced
I'm worried about running with experienced players ..
I don't want to be fact checked all the time cause I dm kinda loose lol
Respectable experienced players would recognize and respect that you are the DM at your table and not try to override you.
Just bring it up in Session 0 of your DMing style.
when all else fails tell them it's magic.
Ok
I follow the rules as far as rolls ect I just am kinda loose when it comes to the story stuff and what monsters are where ect
Polite players might point out the rules as written in a helpful manner, but all the DM needs to say is "Oh right- but I'm doing it this way. We can discuss it later if it's an issue." and that's that.
No one needs to play strictly by the rules, and most players only mean to help out when they remind the DM of a rule. Also fair if a player after the game wants to discuss how a rule change has affected balance and politely discuss it. DM has final say, but always worth hearing out your group incase a rule change has affected how their character plays.
I am too the key to not running RAW (Rules As Written) and adding in your own flair is to be consistent, if a certain thing is one way once rule wise it must be the second and third time. Once the players get used to your unique way of running they will come to understand its your house rules.
Rules lawyers of RAW may not last long at such tables (I have had a few in my time)
Let's keep things on the basics of D&D
For different DM'ing styles, #dm-discussion is a more suitable channel
Besides searching the channels here for play-by-post, check out sites like Role Gate, RPG Crossing, Gamers Plane, and Reddit's r/pbp.
How do I play dnd games online I’m new to dnd online
I’ve been playing the game for a very long time just never played it online
Here’s a good primer on how to do so: https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/750-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-online
My bad, noticed some@people lookin here
it's been a long time since I played DND and I can't remember how to link my Roll20 with Dnd Beyond. Can someone help me on this?
I remember there being an addon for our chrome
There is no official integration between the two.
did they do away with the chrome addon?
There never was any official integration between the two.
Beyond20 browser extension.
Yes! thank you so much!
Beyond20 is a third-party extension, and may cause unintended behavior on D&D Beyond.
Yes, it can be wonky. Use at your discretion.

Hey im dming for the first time, and my players are going to be doing the Frozen sick story from "Explorer's Guide to Wildemount", should I send them a copy of the book to read so they can know more about the world or should I not do that? Any guidance would be appreciated!
It would probably be best for your players not to have access to the source material that would disclose what encounters they might see
No because it's essentially cheating as they would know what would happen in the adventure.
To find out more about the world they should explore it not read about it.
And thats what I figured, I just wanted to be sure I wasn't making a mistake by doing that, thank you!
Players knowing things that only the DM should know is called "meta knowledge."
Players shouldn't read the monster statblocks in order to find out the monster's abilities, strengths, and weaknesses. That's essentially cheating in D&D.
Plus, surprise is always more fun!
for sure appreciate it guys!
If you have more questions / advice on DMing head on over to #dm-discussion
will do!
If there’s something they need to know, the DM can integrate it into the story. The local tavern keeper can offer a clue, a mystery stranger might approach them, the god can send a vision, etc
So I'm new and I'm about to go into a session this week, and I was wondering if I fill out my character sheet before game or during the game and what parts do I fill out first?
Preferably before because it will save time and energy with the DM helping you and the other players out.
Have you created a character before?
I haven't.
Has your DM given guidance on what his parameters are?
No, not yet.
I’d wait till he gives some guidance then
Perhaps your DM will have everyone sit down at a session 0 on character creation. Reach out to your DM.
Then you’ll know what stat selection he wants, what books are allowed, etc
Or reach out! Ask them if they have any info you'd need to know before starting.
Okay, I'll ask them
U can come up with a few ideas loosely ahead of times
Thank you!
Hi I’m creating a new dnd character and I was wondering if I could ask someone (preferably experienced in creating a rogue) a few questions about my character sheet and tips on how to improve my character for a better experience.
Hi
Hi 👋
what are you working with so far?
if you have a link to a character sheet on D&D Beyond we can look.. what sort of questions do you have?
Are you already familiar with the basic rules of the DND?
I'm not
want to start but I don't know how
I highly recommend searching up the rules and going through them at your own pace. Take breaks as needed and maybe start trying to build a character on a character sheet!
I have the basics (I,e. background, alignment, race) and ability numbers but I’m not sure if they work or where I should go from here.
Do you have a link to a character sheet that can be looked at, or more concrete info to help us see what you've got so far?
What is the best way to do a shareable character sheet right now im just using a print out because I prefer to write stuff down by hand.
Have you already played DND with someone?
No I’ve never played and I’m an absolute beginning I’ve only been researching for about 4 days now
First, which ability score selection method did you use?
The most commonly accepted are standard array or point buy; if you used either you should be legal at nearly every table
Can we go to HP?
I used standard array!
You should be fine. For rogue, put the highest number into DEX
How do you find a game here?
Already done.
Good to go

Best way to learn imo is to start playing, if you're interested in in-person games searching your local facebook groups, librarys and meetup.com for open D&D tables near you and/or "Adventurers League" groups would be my suggestion
I'm mainly looking for online groups, I live in Utah so it's a bit scary trying to find a place where I won't be harassed in some way lol
i play online with a few wonderful groups of people, both are groups of 10 and they are really nice. there’s an online group for everyone!! it can be intimidating but even in person groups can be fun. sheesh i’m even in a text based campaign over discord and it is so much fun. it all depends on what you prefer
in that case I'd recommend the #find-a-game channel on this server, or you can check out the numerous LFG subreddits and facebook pages across the internet for finding an online game to join
There's also this guide if you want to look elsewhere online/locally: https://tinyurl.com/TTRPG-LFG
@worn ore holy crap 10 people a piece?
Im looking for some players, been dming for awhile and want to find a few players to run a module or two causally. over discord.
How would you do it over discord?
Looking for am online group im fairly new to dnd so i need some people who are better to teach me the basics

Its pretty fun. i usually help people make characters then we make a discord group. There is a bot that rolls dice for us. thier is also voice chats.
Talk to people and find a game first. It kinda depends but it is a lot to explain in one go.
alr
i put a thing into dnd looking for dm so im guessing that works?
Try finding a video of someone playing to learn basics, I did it that way but you may be able to just look at the rulebook.
Yeah just ask questions if you need to know anything
ok where do i find a video of someone playing dnd, thats pretty vague. Or will just any video do?
lol
Best bet is to look up dungeons and dragons campaign on YouTube, I can't think of others right now.
theres pretty much always at least one D&D livestream going on Twitch at any given time
That being said, playing D&D is very different to watching it be played as very often the game is altered to make it more enjoyable to spectators
Critical Role has a series called Handbooker Helper
if you’re going to watch a campaign, then Critical Role is once again a great source of content
oh cool thanks
hello
Hello
🍞.
Bread
Yes
I played like a half a session when I was like 8 got bored and left
I played about 3, 1 with me as a DM, went smooth,
Nice
My campaign kinda just failed because I didn't try hard enough to make it and I also just... made up random stuff
That made 0 sense at all
Still new, I can make stories tho
Oof
I can create custom races that are great, until DnD Beyond homebrew messes with me
I played with 2 other friends
The dm wanted to play mutants and masterminds
IT WAS TOO COMPLICATED.
After that he just stopped since we didn't make our characters for that weird game
lol rip
But I created a crappy Changeling repilca that works like the Dopplers from The Witcher
I totally know what all of that means /s
Okay, imagine a Druid, as a race, with less cooldown and more playability
Sounds cool
Sounds rlly cool
I'm gonna try to make a campaign and hopefully have a full DM to help
No, maybe, I dunno yet
well gl either way
Soon imma join a campaign or two
Because I wanna try playing with ppl I haven't met before
I may ask two of my online friends to play dnd lmao
that have never played it
GM y'all
Hi
hi
yep, one is text based so it’s easier for a bigger group the other is voice chat but it’s so much fun!!
Hii
Hello there
What's up 👋
Ill hop on this train
Hi All - ive been playing D&D since 1983 but never really tried 5ed. Also a real noob when it comes to Discord and frankly find it hard work and complex. Ill try to get my head around it over the coming days
Welcome, folks!
Yoo what's up
It's aright even us younger ppl have hard time using this app :)
I like to think of my self as quite tech savvy but ive never got my head around discord and steered clear for years
Aright so now it's ur time to try discord and finally get a hold of how it works?
yes it is
Cool good luck man 👍
Thanks - i see many online games but you need to use discord so i steer clear of them
How am i supposed to fill out my character sheet I read all the rules and I don’t understand
On dnd beyond?
What do you mean specifically? You roll 3 or 4d6 and fill it on your paper for stats
Then you add in modifiers per race/class
Oh yeah so you'll roll the d6s of do point buy as said
Then you can add in the modifers under it
Also, just to chip in- not everyone rolls for stats. Ask your DM what method they want
Oh yeah my bad
My dm doesn’t know
Doesn't know what to use, or doens't know you're rolling?
Because the DM must be able to verify your rolls.
She doesn’t know anything we are all new
Honestly it seems a bit mean but I'd suggest going with an online service if you all are new
Because it helps you along with most of this process
You can Def DM new. But do you have access to the basic rules?
No

Yeah I'd definetely suggest some online services as they frequently come with books and rules built in. Roll20 is also a good option for this
Might wanna check through them. there are step by step instructions on how to make characters. D&Dbeyond can also walk you through some things.
The starter pack includes the basic rules
the links in the message above should help
You’ve already been through all those links?
The rules for determining ability scores are found here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters#3DetermineAbilityScores
There's three different methods to choose from; which one you should use is up to your DM.
If you're all brand new and want to keep it simple, the Standard Array might be a good choice.
Thx
Have you chosen a class yet?
You're using all three classes? Or is that your whole party?
Whole party
Cool
Thx
Near the beginning of each class description is a section called Quick Build.
That'll give you an idea of what ability scores are the most important for each class.
Ok
Barbarian, for example:
First, put your highest ability score in Strength, followed by Constitution.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/barbarian#CreatingaBarbarian
My highest score is 15 strength
Once you've got your ability scores, though, you'll also need your ability score modifiers. You can get those here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters#AbilityScoresandModifiers
So the modifier for your 15 STR is +2.
Ok
Once you've got your ability score modifiers, then you can do your saving throws.
By default, each one is equal to your modifier, so a STR save would use your +2 STR.
If you're proficient in STR saving throws, you'd also add your proficiency bonus.
Ask away
Those are going to work a lot like the saving throws.
Each skill has an associated ability score, so you'll put the modifier for that score.
Athletics uses STR, for example, so you'd add your +2 from STR there.
And again, if you're proficient with that skill, you'd add your proficiency bonus as well.
OK
For a level 1 character, your proficiency bonus is also +2.
I understand
So for things for strength I plus 2
And when I roll for it
I get a plus 2
Yep!
Yay
Plus your proficiency bonus, where applicable.
And any other random bonuses that might apply.
Barbarians are proficient in STR and CON saving throws.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/barbarian#Proficiencies-459
So you'd have a +4 for STR saves.
So if you said "I want my character to climb that wall!" Your DM might say "Ok, roll me an athletics check."
You'd roll a d20, add your strength modifier (+2) and if you are proficient in Athletics, you'd also add another +2 for your proficiency bonus.
Ok
When barbarian says this (at the link above):
Skills: Choose two from Animal Handling, Athletics, Intimidation, Nature, Perception, and Survival
That's how you get proficiency.
What about atacks and spells
Barbarians don't have any spells (though you might have some from your race).
Hello!
I am a human
Do note that barbarians can't cast spells while they're raging, either.
Who made a deal with the devil
Sup
So melee weapons use your STR modifier by default. Ranged weapons use DEX. Weapons with the thrown or finesse properties may change that.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#ModifierstotheRoll
So if you're in combat and it gets to your turn and you want to attack with your big axe, you'd roll a d20 plus your strength (+2), plus your proficiency bonus (another +2) for a total of 1d20+4. If your number is equal or higher than your enemy's Armor Class you hit!
And barbarians (again at that proficiencies link above) have this:
Weapons: Simple weapons, martial weapons
Which is effectively every weapon.
So add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for all of those (you don't add it to the damage).
I'm sure you can easily see why Barbarians care a lot about having a high Strength score 😄
Why hello everyone.
Hello there

What's up
I have a question.
I have just started my first campaign in dnd. My friends got me into it
Aye not much mate and yourself?
Having a blast so far. I'm a gnome wizard and want to multiclass into artificer
What school should I use for wizard
To best help out artificer.
I love my Damphir Bladesinger Wizard.
Explain like I'm 5. I have one functioning brain cell remaining after the last session
Chill drawing
Aye good stuff mate.
Fr
Depends what you want to do! What kind of spells do you think are fun? Blowing things up? Summoning demons? Buffing up your team? Casting illusions? Mind control?
Ultimately, my biggest suggestion for a new player is: You probably shouldn't multiclass. Obviously we can't stop you, but multiclassing makes gameplay significantly more complicated when it comes to magic classes.
Is there anyone that could help teach me a little about dnd, i have played dnd on like a board game but i havent played on computer, if there is anyone out there that could help me learn then please tell me how.
It looks like this user double posted into the #optimization
We can just let it go on there since hes getting helped there
As in u begin the dm ? Or just starting one on dnd and beyond?
I dont know anything about any app or site where i can make a dnd game, I just want to create a quest where there are goblins and other mystical creatures to fight off
Many are using dnd and beyond if they are playing online if that's what u want
hmm ill check it out
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/lmop this is a free adventure with goblins and stuff have a look to see how and adventure is structured
There's also this guide if you want to look elsewhere online/locally: https://tinyurl.com/TTRPG-LFG
Should you pay to play DnD
You can. You don't have to, by any means.
Depends on what your paying for and if you can afford it, plenty of free games out there
Is there any way to like make or have a map over your quest and to add characters?
What do you mean?
Because iam new and whant to start playing
I want to make a dnd quest but i would like to have a map over it
There are map making apps.
ok
I don't understand "add characters" part of the question.
Dndbeyond isn’t a VTT its a character manager you want something like roll20 owlbear
One upside of paying for a game is people (both players and DM) are less likely to flake. And you may get some of the nice bells and whistles if that's what they use the money for such as VTTs, custom art, and the like.
Yeah, i know, i made a character there and now i am looking for a place to make a campain
It depends on the tools you want to use.
You can use the old fashion way of paper and pen/pencil.
You can use dedicated map making apps or just Photoshop for maps.
The tools is whatever you feel comfortable with and within your budget.
If you want more advice on creating your own adventure then head on over to #dm-discussion
What do you mean by that
What part of my statement did you not understand?
The VTT
Oh, a virtual tabletop: it's a way to display maps, tokens, and also handle dice rolls (among other functions). There are some very high-end ones that require a subscription service, so some paid GMs use the income from running games to keep that subscription. Same for other tools like D&D Beyond: they cost money, so it's no surprise if that's where some of their income from charging for a game goes.
O
Hi guys, silly question but new to the game and especially DM'ing. Just prepping a one shot and I notice characters specifically say on their reactions opportunity attack where as the monster I'm looking at does not. Am I to assume that this monster just, has that as a reaction? Or am does the monster need to explicitly have opportunity attack listed on it for me to use it?
I think all creatures, PC and monster alike, have opportunity attacks. Statblocks just call out additional, unsusual abiltiies. Like Grapple and Shove aren't on there, but monsters can do those actions as well.
Ah great, thank you!
Hi my dungeon brothers i am quite new at this game and i have question. What you wanna from your DM?(like better scenario, more fights, less fights, music, more preparing and etc.)
oh srr
That will depend on your players and your players alone.
How do I use the darkwook core feature for warfirged on dnd beyond?
They don't have a feature like that?
If you're referring to an Unearthed Arcana version, those aren't supported by D&D Beyond.
There's a feature called darkwood core in Wayfinder guide I thought
If it is possible to use it in DDB—which I'm skeptical of—you may be better served asking in #ddb-support.
Okay cause I'm installing the book on dnd beyond on phone
Ugh I
Yeah no they edited the book on dnd beyond to match the current book
Do all of you are in full parties?

Newbie here, I don't know all the terms so excuse me but if my race adds +2 to my ability score do I add it to the plus number I worked out or the base number i rolled. Ie I rolled an 18, which works out to be +4 do I add the +2 to the 4 or the 18? Hope that makes sense
You understand how to generate your six ability scores?
Yep but I'm just trying to figure out how to add my race's bonuses
the ability score is 18 the modifier is +4
Right, so you add the +2 to the ability score listed in the race's description. Like if you rolled a 16 for Intelligence and the +1 from the race is for INT, then you now have a 17.
Ahhhh fantastic! Thank you!
That may or may not change the modifier, which is what you add to a d20 roll.
Righttt that makes sense
Hello! Newbie here
What is meant by “game style”? It was one of the questions when I tried to post to join a game.
Searched online but didn’t get conclusive results
Generally game style refers to a game either being hack and slash, immersive storytelling or something inbetween
It's not a specific term. It's more like "Tell us what kind of game you want to play/run": dungeon crawl, political intrigue, gritty survival, etc. Or just vibes from media you like.
I only can search one time ?
What?
i’m new
Hi
Check out #find-a-game and https://tinyurl.com/TTRPG-LFG for resources on finding a group/game.
Hey! So im very new to the whole dnd thing but I have played in a game before but it was kinda whack because not everyone was fully present and we had to keep pausing and stuff lol. im really interested in a fantasy campaign but im not entirely sure what to do because a lot of the "looking for players" are looking for more fanbased focused campains and pirate stuff, i dunno...
and also im not quite sure how to put something in the looking for dm channel as it wont let me type

ive sorted that now thanks!
is it okay for 12 year olds to play dnd i heard somewhere its 13+
On Discord, you need to be 13 or older, but the published materials themselves list 12 and up.
I know some folks expose kids to D&D even earlier than that, with some simplification of the rules and downplaying the violence.
Within the proper environment, absolutely
School/Library clubs are probably the best places to look
I'm interested in getting into D&D as a TTG. Previously I played and love NWN1 on PC as a child and now I have replayed the game and have wanted to find an environment in which to play
DM could make it inopropriate in extremely rare cases, but the game is honestly suitable for all ages. The 12+ thing is more for the complexity of the game than the rather of the context its self.
Thank you for your help dunl7982, I will look into getting more initiated with the 5th edition rules!
Additionally, Thank you again for your help regarding where to go regarding searching out games

The difference between Wizard and Sorcerer is that Sorcerer have limitations to spells that they known. Meanwhile, Wizard can have so many known spells but need to prepare them first?
Wizards can have all the spells in their spell book but can only cast what they have prepared and have spell slots for.
Sorcerers have known spells they can cast as long as they have the spell slots - but with meta magic they can convert sorcery points to spell slots (and vice versa).
Oh wow 😀
Sorcerers have less spells but can do more with them, wizards have more spells but can do less with them
At least thats how i understand it
Yo, I’ve been looking into DnD and have been wondering if there’s anyway to play online? Or is it only an in-person type of thing?
Sorcerous Origin is actually a subclass?
It’s the class feature that grants your sorcerer subclass.
