Yes, weaponized teammates
Casually asking my teammate to turn themselves into stone so i have a better weapon š
Honestly right?
I need to try that with my DM actually
No. If it calls for others to make a saving throw, they roll, not you, to see if they are affected. You will roll the damage , if it is a spell that says it does damage.
If you need to make an attack roll of any kind, the spell will tell you. For example, guiding bolt:
A flash of light streaks toward a creature of your choice within range. Make a ranged spell attack against the target. On a hit, the target takes 4d6 radiant damage, and the next attack roll made against this target before the end of your next turn has advantage, thanks to the mystical dim light glittering on the target until then.
Can someone send the character discussion link?
wow critical roles "handbooker helper", really helps understant just watched 27 videos out of 44...two thumbs - up
Can someone look at my character sheet and let me know if they are good or not I have no idea what I'm doing but I tried to make a character listening to the instructions
Well, idk how old you are or whether you are neurodivergent or neuronormative (is that a term? idk the proper language for this stuff), but if you're playing with adults, they're likely going to expect you to be able to control your behavior.
Iād recommend swapping CON and CHA.
Donāt forget to add your starting equipment either.
Your constitution should not be 8; its the stat that impacts hit points. It should be no worse than your third highest number
I suggest re-reading the monk class. Nearly everything they do relies on DEX and WIS, so those should be your highest stats
I understand for role play reasons you may think you need to assign your stats a certain way, but the monk class is extremely dependent on multiple ability scores being high, and not having them will drastically affect its effectiveness
Neurotypical, not neuronormative
Thanks!
All g
I'd generally recommend never having a character with a Con below 10 without fully understanding what that means
Alright I will thanks
hello
Whats good Lasagna
im good hbu?
Yeah some of this stuff is confusing but I'm sure we both will got a hold of it eventually
i hope
I really love the creativity you can pour into this game
yeah
its really good how i can get into detail about stuff
like i cant do it with other video games and i can imagine it and it can be acceptable
Bro that's what I'm saying. Getting into dnd you may think there's limits to your imagination but there's not. Like a Dino is a good shape and there's probably more we have no clue about
yeah
I wonder if being a DM is as fun or better than being a player
Itās preference really
both is prob fun imo
Yeah both are fun but depends on the person
agree
I figured but I would have to do both first in order to determine which one I like
I feel like being a DM could be a bit tougher than a player
Maybe not idk
Itās more mentally demanding at least for me
Hmm it must be nice knowing things the players don't
What is your character?
Hey yall
hello, new here :) so the question is, how can i create a character for dnd with a class that's not in the basic list on dnd beyond? do i actually have to purchase the books to unlock other classes? im confused :')
D&D Beyond comes with the free stuff found in the Basic Rules. If you want addtional sub-classes you have to purchase them. You can either purchase the digital books or just the individual playable sub-classes.
Iām confused on how to actually do stuff on this server

Hi
Does anyone know what owlbear is? I'm looking at the recruitment pages and they keep saying we need to use owlbear, but I have no clue what it is.

Wait im confused
I think the people in the recruitment pages aren't talking about that kind of owlbear
Nevermind I think I found it by a Google search
Owlbear rodeo is a vtt (virtual table top)
I'm currently thinking to set up a goliath
Since I can't find warforged in that website
(which would be cool but my first choice was goliath)
Warforged is in the Eberron book.
Faith as in belief?
i searched it up it's not important
Faith would refer to whichever god you worshipped
it's not that important for most characters, would be more important for clerics and all that could depend heavily on the campaign you happen to be playing in
what should age be to be reasonable š
It really depends on your caharacter and the world they inhabit.
first time doing this kinda stressed
You're stressed on what age to make your character?
On character traits and bonds do I just
continue to do a full extent
Might want to sit back and realize it mostly doesn't matter
ah
Traits, flaws, bonds is mostly flavor stuff and has to do with the personality of your character, it's not stuff that will mechanically impact your character.
All that really just helps develop your character as a person
And might help integrate them into the world depending on your DM
Traits, flaws, and bonds are presented in the books as a table, you could roll if you want and discover who your character is, or you could just pick, It's not going to make a huge difference
Except in how you play your character
uh
hammer of thunderbolts fair for beginning?
What rarity is it? By the name Iām guessing at least uncommon
legendary š
In which case probably not, but talk to your dm anyway
alright i'll start with common
Oh lol no
light hammer or battleaxe it is
Thatās like level 20 stuff
Have you read the basic rules?
The rules for your class and basic character creation rules will tell you what to start with
Now that I realized I should prob go check
Unless your DM is telling you to, you don't get to start with any magic items at all
Hello. Where do I go to see if anyones looking for a party that need a player?

I have a question me and my friends will play from the application. Should I Tell them that goblins have appeared or write it in the narration note and read it from there?
What application are you referring to?
āD&D Beyondā, I think
I'm not entirely sure I understand what the difference is between you telling them and you reading something to them, both are you telling them, no?
Dnd and beyond
What is easier between the 2?
I'm telling you I don't understand what the difference is between the 2.
Or what difference you're identifying.
The difference is that they can see it from the application and go back to it to check and the other is that they will have to remember what I said or write it down
If it is like a real note
So, are you doing play by post? You're not using audio to play?
Iām completely new to the game and I wanted to start a campaign with some of my friends (beginners too). Can I just play online with them and have access to all the tools or do I have to buy a book or a game set?

You can play with just the free basic rules. Buying books like the Players Handbook unlocks additional options and rules you can use to enhance your games.
You want to be free to play yea?
I am playing a bill dwarf life domain cleric as my fist character to get used to all types of stuff like healing, damage, and support
It is also a good mix of sword and sorcery
Nope. I'm just a NPC.
I suspect the server will be a little slower than a normal Sunday on account of Motherās Day.
well i am looking for people to make friends with
Participate in conversations as they crop up. You can also use check out the instructions in #find-a-game for using the recruitment channels.
Also, there may be a school club, or a local game store your folks can take you to
Libraries sometimes have D&D/tabletop events too. Folks often overlook them as another option.

im new too, wanna party up?
Ok
If using divine smite on a crit, does it cost one spell slot to roll twice for the dmg?
Like, for example;
1d8 damage cus hit, 1d8 cus crit,
Then 2d8 for smite and then 2d8 again.
How many spell slots? 1 or 2.
One spell slot.

@true hedge you interested?
me who is a newb with 2 very bad games under my belt seeing a arcane puppeteer which is most defiantly 100% homebrew and being like "NOOO I WANT IT NUUUUUUUUU"
Iād stick to a standard class/race before custom stuff
The goal is the learn the rules before breaking them
I want to join a campaign with some friends of mine I have an idea and backstory for a character but I'm not sure how to fill out a character sheet
The Basic Rules describe the process: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/step-by-step-characters
You can also find video tutorials on YouTube.
Okay cool thank you
If they have already started their campaign when I ask and I can't join. Is there anywhere I can play with people like online to learn how to play until their next campaign
thats true, but man seeing a puppeteer made my brain spark ideas QwQ
Yes. Check #find-a-game for instructions on using the server's recruitment channels.
Welcome newcomers! I am here to answer your questions should you have any.
I'm making a thing, would you put recharge 5-6 or 6 on a magical ability of a creature that increases its own and up to 3 surrounding allies attack rolls by 1 for 2 and 1 turns, respectively
What CR do you want it to be?
Not too bah honestly, I'd give it a 5-6 recharge and have it be a bonus action
Also their own ranged attacks (they have only one) gets a +2 bonus instead of +1

im putting together a party if youre interested, already got one other guy
Would anybody be willing to teach a total beginner and do a quick 30 min campaign for $$$
id suggest watching vids on the basics first
yea, never pay for whats free on yt
youtube be the heaven for information
man i need to get this idea out of my head for this puppeteer, damn you artist mindset coming up with ideas
wait like a puppeteer character or a character that is being puppeteered?
I found a home brew class for a arcane puppeteer class
So theyād be the one controlling said puppets
sounds interesting, is it like a possesion thing going on or does the puppeteer literally have mage hands controlling everything
I actually love that idea
what would yours look like, out of curiosity
I think a puppeteer character who uses its puppets as a weapon would be cool
Like a Warlock character whose patron is trapped inside of the puppets body. And they are working together to unleash its ability
Iāll write my idea down in a min Iām on apex in game so donāt wanna betray my team lol
Is there anyone who will add me to a campaign so I get all the books? This is a hypothetical question even tho it doesn't sound like one, it is
for beyond?
Do you mean if I want to pay to play the game?
Thanks
But what if Iāve already created an account and a character?
@echo kelp
The puppet has to look like a puppet, so Iād do a horse /knight reasoning could make the character performance like a prince and his noble knight/steed
Lil a short character with a small wooden crown and his steed and knight (you can have 2 puppets but that requires both hands to use both at the same time)
A lil āprince of nowhereā and his valiant protector and noble steed
At a certain e lvl you can āfuse the puppets requiring both hands* according to the arcane puppeteer page I have (again homevbrew) so in theory this lil princes puppets could fuse to make a centaur
tee hee
holy shit, and you havent used this in a game yet?
Iām a beginner with two badly ran games under my belt
Iām hosting a game with another newbie I met today, you should join us and try that character out
Well not hosting today, I met the guy today
im glad you find my idea cool
If I'm understanding your question correctly, if you want more races, class options, spells, magical items, etc. in the DnDBeyond character tools, then yes you need to own the books, or be in a DnDBeyond campaign with content sharing enabled that has access to those books, and/or have access to the physical books and use the DnDBeyond homebrew tools to create the options, or to buy specific items a la carte via DnDBeyond.
Otherwise you are limited to what DnDBeyond offers for free and what's available in the D&D Free Basic Rules and SRD (System Reference Document).
Three in addition to Light, totaling four. You'll see that the description specifies it's in addition to the cleric cantrips you already know.
A first lvl cleric gets 3 cantrips. As a light cleric, you also gain the light cantrip. So 4 total, one of which has to be light
From the cleric spell list, yes.
uwu
Humble beginnings often lead to great stories
Hello everyone nice to meet you all, I am new to DND and I was wondering how homebrew characters work. I donāt know if I am in the right channel for this. So I apologize.
You might get better answers in #homebrew
What do you understand homebrew characters to be?
That said, homebrew involves creating things not within the officially published books.
Best of luck@lyric fjord
Creating your own character using the races and classes in the game isn't "homebrew," though.
As a player, you only have access to homebrewing with the ok of your DM, however as it's their job to be the rules referee
mhm cant just willy nilly use anything
I was wondering if I could incorporate a narrative character I have from Warhammer 40k. Not directly making any campaigns specifically warhammer. Just making a story on how my character ended up in DND.
It can also be rather tricky to make well-balanced homebrew, so it's important to have an understanding of how the game works before trying to do it
Ahh okie dokie, I bought the player book to learn more on character creation and balance
Superficially, having a character in D&D who comes from the 40K universe doesn't necessarily imply anything mechanical, but you'd still want to talk to your DM before doing that.
That depends on whether you're hoping to make the character narratively from 40K or mechanically similar. Both are subject to DM approval, but narrative decisions are easier to allow than homebrew mechanical ones, as the latter can really undermine the game's design.
Honestly a psyker character sounds like a lot of fun
Narratively "I am a human fighter from the Imperium" is different from "I am a human fighter from the Imperium and also here is my heavy bolter"
Youl could just reflavor a wizard or sorcerer as that, but to make the mechanics of it work would involve a tremendous amount of homebrew
alot of work to do all that
The Bolter would be useless after it runs out of ammo. I would make sure of that. The only thing they would have is their damaged Space marine armor and their chainsword. That would be about it. I love the character and want to do more with them.
You simply cannot have a bolter unless yoru DM says you can
again cant just have everything willy nilly easy peasy
I understand that, I was just responding to making sure they were not going to be overpowered. I apologize.
No need to apologize, just trying to help you understand
Is there a channel that helps us learn how to make characters and play the game?
If you want the best chances of your concept being approved I recommend sticking as close to the published rules as you can and lean on flavoring your appearance and effects to more closely match what youāre trying to go for.
But also, D&D often breaks down pretty quick when players try to bring in content from other genres and IPs.
#character-discussion is the place for that!
Ahh okie thank you ^^
I'd highly recommend that you first learn how to make a character in D&D before trying to make a particular character in D&D, and definitely before trying to make a homebrewed characer
Ooh okie ^^ is there any specific I need besides the playerbook?
Sorry for all my questions
Not really, you don't even need the Players Handbook, you can learn to make a character from the free, basic rules Pdf, just understand that it has a lot fewer options.
https://media.wizards.com/downloads/dnd/DnDBasicRules(PrinterFriendly).pdf
But if you're simply trying to understand how to make a character, it's all you need
saves for later
if you're new to the ttrpg hobby in general, understand that there's a long tradition of publishing these games where the first section of the book is how to make a character, it's expected that you open the book and make a character, and that process partially teaches you how the game works.
This is kinda how one is expected to approach a ttrpg
Ooh okie, I am kind of familiar with some TTNG, but not to DND I wanted to try it out.
Thank you so much for your help. ^^
ima sit on my arcane puppeteer character idea and flesh them out, hopefully i can draw them at some point and have them as a "maybe owo?"
Oooh thatās a really cool idea ^^
Having a file for character concepts isn't a bad idea. You never know when you might get the chance to play a particular character (or some version of it).
plus allows me to meddle with their appearance teehee
Sounds awesome
New. Just lookin for potential friends. ^-^
Heeey everyoneš» . Looking for some friends and a group I could join. I've been playing D&D for a short period of time now with a group that is completely new. I'm the DM right now and would love to be a player so I could learn from other DM's :3
See #find-a-game for instructions on using our recruitment channels.
Oeeh I will check it out, just joined the discord ^-^
Hey, just got the app and have been listening to a few podcasts lately. I have played a total of 1 time and loved it...but don't have time to go to my local DND campaigns. So, here I am! Still learning the ins and outs of this game.
Welcome
Yeah I haven't had my first proper game yet either
I played a short one at a comic book store. But I am becoming more obsessed with it as I listen to more podcasts. I got most of the way through The Adventure Zone and am currently listening to High Rollers Aerois
Nice - we have https://discord.com/channels/516367331358801950/1021502327309484153 section for discussion some popular D&D podcasts/shows.
Welcome always glad to help
is it a bad idea if you're new to want to convert a character type to DND
First time on
Convert a character type?
I think it means like take a character from other media and put it into dnd
what's the closest existing creature to it? is it more catlike or more doglike ect
Whatās it called? I may have heard of it
Well that's the funny part
it looks like a human skull so i'm slightly confused
ill just post it
That would help
Hmmm. Iām guessing someone may have homebrewed a death tyrant playable race?
i can't upload here?
Oh yeah
You canāt post images here
can its personality be compared to an existing creature?
sips yu gi oh so legit just a undead
maybe a humanoid suffering from some form of invisibility curse?
that'd be pretty funny.
That would have to be discussed with the dm at the time as thatās very specific
or maybe your character wears a skull mask and keeps the rest of them hidden robes
how about a skull shaped fire ball or a ghoul like creature
would either be classable
i think you need to base it on something existing for the sake of being able to apply all of the pros and cons associated with picking a specific species. Like taking something humanoid and basing it on a dwarf or an elf
but like Linda said it's something you need to discuss with your DM
i say pick whatever existing creature best matches its personality and mannerisms.
there are many ways to do this idea just gotta make sure itās done correctly so it doesnāt affect the game negatively
so an arthropod with dreams of becoming a Great Old One?
i think i might just go with a standard fare ghoul
in that case
and not try to character convert
there's mention of a channel for recruiting but i'm not seeing one. I got kicked from another discord server and campaign a few weeks ago without warning. My first real campaign. I thought i'd done something wrong and didn't want to try to join another campaign until i knew why so I wouldn't get kicked again. i've been wracking my brain over it but today someone made contact and said that i actually didn't do anything wrong and there's some kind of big stupid drama going on and a couple of people were actually angry over me getting kicked. so now i'm trying to find another campaign.
Oof sorry that happened to you
thanks, i'm just looking for a recruitment channel but i'm not seeing one, is there a role that i need to see it?

^ all the channels we have for finding agroup/game
that isn't showing for me
Make sure to read #find-a-game
Check your Discord settings and make sure embeds are enabled to see bot messages (need to have that to be able to use the looking-for channels)
i can see bot messages
Can you see #find-a-game?
Then your Discord client may be out of date. You may need to reinstall Discord.
thank you
i brough it up on chrome so it's in a browser instead of using the downloaded app, but it's still not showing
Hmmm. Normally the web version of Discord should be nominally up to date.
it's got to be me
Well let's try this another way - are you looking for a group to join?
You can search #looking-for-players as that's DMs looking for players for their games
kinda, it feels weird
Then under each posting is a thread. When you find a game that sounds interesting, you use that thread to post that you're interested. You can the coordinate with the DM and they'll likely invite you to their server or tools that they use to run the game, etc.
You can also check #looking-for-community - these are other D&D servers that may have games happening.
okay, i managed to get the channels
it's really weird, i clicked on dnd games help and it brought up the channel but nothing else. noticed that i could add the channel to my list and from there did the same with the category so now i have those channels
the whole D&D GAMES category was hidden for some reason
Ah yeah - if you want to see all the channels you can access, see id:browse
Maybe you collapsed the section
Ghosts in ya computer
no, it was hidden and i was barely on here so i had no reason to do it.
or the ghosts
but thank you so much, finding that would have been an odyssey
oh wow, i just discovered the show all channels thing and the list just more than doubled!
Nice lol
markerspace and adventurers league were also hidden
i think other stuff too but there's so much that now i can't tell XD
well now that that's all sorted out let's get back to D&D
XD
thank you guys so much for helping
hoping i can find someone who'll let me start off with an alchemy jug. it's part of my character. green dragonborn ranger. she was adopted by a ranger who found her as a pup. he knew nothing about dragonborns or the green breath so she never had any training to control it. one day he got her a drink at a tavern as sort of a coming of age thing and she belched and the tavern had to be evacuated. the patrons thought it was hilarious, but she has an alchemy jug for an endless supply of beer for belching at the enemy.
I'd go in with the understanding that most groups won't let you start off with magic items like alchemy jugs.
Also you'll likely want to work the the DM and group to build a character that works well for the kind of D&D game you'll be playing.
That said - go ahead and have fun building any character you want. Just understand you may not be able to play them as-is at every game/group.
k
i was told that the dm from that last campaign was a bad dm but i have nothing to compare it to
You can also have it as like a character quirk but in sparse moments
"I donāt drink, not since ā¦last time"
No problem - hope you find a great group to play D&D with and have lots of fun!
here's hoping
always a party out there
Hello everyone, I'm super new and I know very little. I've been interested in finding a group to play with or someone or someone that would like to teach me how to play. I don't know if this is the right place to start
Yooooo, so glad to hear it
Your best bet if you're interested in getting a brief understanding of the rules would be to check out this stuff...

In terms of looking for a group, there is the ?looking command when you're ready
Alternatively, if in-person games are more your thing you should try googling for adventurers leagues near you, or LFG (Looking for Group) facebook pages/meetup events in your local city
A couple more considerations:
- being drunk has an actual affect on the game; normally being drunk is considered being poisoned. You may think of it as flavor for your backstory, but it has a mechanical impact
The character of Nott on Critical Roleās second campaign DID integrate alcoholism into the character but it was a hard commitment. The player, Sam Riegel, actually took the mechanical disadvantage on many occasions, and when forced to be sober, behaved significantly worse. This is a professional playing a streamed game
-
as others have said, magic items are powerful, and you arent going normally get one for free to start. You may think its just for the gag, but an alchemy jug can be used for other things that may give you more power than is balanced for lv1. Doubly so if you party doesnt have any magic items to start and only you do
-
that said, if you want a trait of you character be to WANT alcohol, go for it. Everyone seeks adventure for different reasons. You can play your character as particularly excited in taverns, to share stories of belching, etc. thats all character work for which there is no mechanical impact
To sort of build upon the "Go for it" advice, this is a perfect example of needing communication with your table. Alcoholism is a real thing, and the last thing you want is to harm the people you are playing with by playing into something they don't want to interact with
Is there something we can help you with?
I could just as easily say that I rarely touch alcohol because of what happened in the tavern and forget about the alchemy jug.
just had my first game, and 2 of the four members left, killed the game wtf
yikes
Sure
Sorry to hear the game died. Sometimes it happens.
That said, keep in contact with folks that you enjoyed playing with and eventually you'll have a nice network of folks you can play D&D with.
Does homebrewing some abilities for monk make sense? there's a lot to be desired when playing one, but it's especially the lack of "things" you can do as a monk or the lack of damage you can deal in most combat situations... So would it be appropriate to homebrew more move variations, like Stunning strike but it slows the enemy, or knocks someone prone, or slow them, blind them, bla bla bla.
You will need to talk to your dm
Nah I did, he agrees
it's just, I'm curious if it's worth it or if it makes sense? If you need examples it's not a problem, it's just like, more moves, more utility rather than damage
Seems like something that should go in the homebrew channel, we are way beyond newcomer territory
What happened if you don't mind sharing? Scheduling conflicts, lack of interest, different preferences?
New here! I am very excited to try my hand at my first game. I am still reading materials so I won't be too useless, please feel free to hit me up if you don't mind kinda walking a noob through a little extra.
Helloo very new,, I just spent 2hrs making a character but I have no clue where to start

The quick-start guide below explains how to find a game here on our server. Check out #find-a-game for the channel rules, FAQ, and off-server game options.
⢠#750812887697588356 has players who are ready to join a game.
⢠#looking-for-players has unpaid DMs offering a traditional D&D experience: a single party playing together through a shared adventure.
⢠#looking-for-community has free community-style games like West Marches, One-Shot locators, and more. These are easy to join and regularly active, but you might play with different people each session.
⢠#paid-looking-for-game has games that require payment to join. These games might offer a more professional DM experience or more consistent participation.
The best place to start is by replying to the messages that have already been posted. You can use the thread attached to the post or send the user a direct message.

Is there anything in particular that you are having trouble with?
I know the basic basics like the roles of different players and how a basic game works kinda
You can google combat guide 5e and go to the images tab, you'll be able to find visual guide that can make combat easier to understand.
Do you have any questions so far?
Not right now,, I'm just gonna devote some time to reading
Thank you though!! This server has helped a lot so far
Where would be a good channel to get input on a character that I built? I specifically wanted opinions on the backstory. I need to know if I made it too detailed or not.
Yep.
Thank you. For some reason I don't see it in the list, so the link helps. Much appreciated!
Is the character for a community campaign like D&D Adventures League or for a home campaign?
Ah.
It would also be good to share the character backstory with your DM to get their thoughts on it.
looks like the best race I've got in canon for a ghoul is Dhampir
Hi guys. We will start our campaign tomorrow we made our characters. We have a druid, who uses the spell Shillelagh. But we cannot really understand how should it work. Its not a concentration its a bonus action, so does that mean he can swing with his quarterstaff and then with shillelagh aswell? We cant really understand how its actually works. Anyone can help us out?
"here is also little cost for using shillelagh. It is a cantrip that you can cast as a bonus action, meaning you won't have to give up an attack to activate it. It lasts a minute, but it can be re-cast with a bonus action any time." - google
i think dnd subreddits would b a safe bet too! if u want extra reassurance
but i think u can attack + cast it at the same time/same turn
Shillelagh is like a buff which you apply to your club or quarterstaff.
So, you cast the spell as a cantrip using your bonus action, and then you can make a melee attack with your action using your club or quarterstaff, because you cast shillelagh on the weapon, it now does an additional 1d8 damage and it will bypass cratures' resistance or immunity to attacks from nonmagical weapons.
this is the correct answer
To answer your first question. No, the player can't swing the quarterstaff and then with Shillelagh.
The way it works is you cast the spell as a bonus action and it turns a club or quartstaff into a magical version of itself. Specifically the spell-casting ability is used instead of strength to determine how accurate you hit and how much damage you deal with the quarterstaff.
and this
So every turn he attacks, he only using the shillelaghās 1d8+2 and not the quarterstaffs attack right?
So its basically just overwrites his basic attack?
A quarterstaff does 1d6 bludgeoning damage. A quarterstaff which has had shillelagh cast on it does 1d6+1d8 Damage (+ Str Mod)
Also this bypass creature resistance thing is like bypassing AC? Im sorry we are really new to this game so i have no idea to be honest. š
every damage spell (unless stated otherwise) does not override current damage
resisteances
Oh wait so its added to it? Hoooly thats op š
The spell Shillelagh has a duration of 1 minute. This means you can cast it and then it lasts for 1 minute (10 rounds). You don't have to cast it again to maintain the benefits of it fo rthe duration of the spell.
ac is what you roll to hit, resistances make you take half damage from an attack
It really isn't op, but ok
for someone new at first level it sure will seem like it
I'm pretty sure it doesn't stack. Given that the spell says "weapon's damage die becomes a d8".
Well said, goblins have 7 hp, extra 1d8 seems pretty good
makes on average not killing a goblin to killing a goblin
Do keep in mind that the benefits of the shillelagh spell add to the damage roll and not to the attack roll.
using averages with no bonuses
But shillelagh modifies the attack roll aswell, because its takes it as spellcast not str, so even the āhitā rolled with the int modifier. Atleast thats what we see on the character sheet. Like quarterstaff attack is +2 (+2proficiency +0str) and shillelagh hit is +4 (+2proficiency+2int)
Yes, I simply meant that the additional 1d8 wasn't added to the attack roll
it doesnt add, its overrided in that scenario
The spell allows you to add your spellcasting ability instead of Str for the attack roll.
This means that a druid would add their Wis Mod to the attack roll rather than their Str Mod.
This is good for lvl 1 druids, because they don't have access to wildshape yet.
So, im really sorry that im really dumb. Can someone type me what should our druid do in his turn if he uses shillelagh and attack, and what he do in the next round aswell, so maybe i can understand it better that way?
Lots of players will choose a lower Str score for their druids because with wildshape, your Str is being replaced by that of the creature you've wildshaped into.
Yes, of course there are players who play their druids in other ways, I'm just making broad statements.
On their furst turn in combat, the druid will cast Shillelagh using their bonus action, they will then use their action to make a melee attack using the quaterstaff they cast shillelagh on.
In the following round, they can use their action to make a melee attack with the quarterstaff again, which will still have the effects of the spell cast in the first round because the spell lasts for 10 rounds.
There will almost never be a scenario in which a druid has to cast shillelagh more than once during a combat encounter.
Of course, there might also be instances in which the druid doesn't want to make a melee attack with their action and instead cast some other spell.
Yes, you can use a bonus action before an action.
Alrighty i understand so far. So quarterstaff is 1d6 dmg, if shillelagh active its 1d8 and to hit its +2(2prof0str). Shillelagh itself is 1d8+2 and to hit is +4(2prof,2wis). If the druid attacks in both turns, what āto hitā he rolls? The quarterstaff or the shillelagh and how much dmg he roll?
-
A normal attack with a quarterstaff: the attack roll is 1d20 + Str Mod + Proficiency Bonus, and it does 1d6+Str Mod damage
-
If you cast Shillelagh on your quarterstaff: the attack roll is 1d20 + Wis Mod + Proficiency Bonus and the damage is 1d8 + Wis Mod.
Thank you so much, for taking your time telling me this! I really appreciate it!
Wat yall doing
Help
No
No that's what I'm doing
Okay thanks
Lastly, is there like a storyline/campaign where to start off the game (like a tutorial or a follow trough)?
Sure, that would be whatever adventure the DM decides to run.
Dnd is an open game, dnd beyond just helps set up a character
Okay thanks
My dad watches vox machina and he plays dnd
I got inspired to dnd becsuse my dad plays ot and i think it was onteresting
Yeah sorryy
Also did u make a character?
Nice. Mine is a Goliath wizard
Sadly, no
You need to get one
Best part of dnd is rolling dice
Not rlly but its in my top 3
Don't really need dice if you're playing online with a vtt.
I'm certainly not saying you shouldn't get dice even though you're mostly playing online, you just mostly won't need them.
Glances sideways at my dice bag
Wait
Stop
Thatās wrong
Youāre giving an incorrect answer- Shillelagh doesnt ADD a D8 to the damage dice
Hereās the exact text: The wood of a club or quarterstaff you are holding is imbued with natureās power. For the duration, you can use your spellcasting ability instead of Strength for the attack and damage rolls of melee attacks using that weapon, and *the weaponās damage die becomes a d8.*The weapon also becomes magical, if it isnāt already. The spell ends if you cast it again or if you let go of the weapon.
It literally the damage dice becomes a d8. Nowhere does it say ADD
Gah, you're right! My bad. it's 1d8 instead of 1d6
Jesus
I made a mistake, it's not 1d6 + 1d8, it's 1d8 instead of 1d6. Sorry for the confusion.
Really?
Alright i have to fix this whole string
You cast shillelagh with your bonus action while youāre holding a staff or club
Your ATTACK roll becomes:
D20 + WIS (your spellcasting stat) + proficiency
Your DAMAGE roll becomes:
D8 + WIS
Think of Shillelagh as two effects:
- changing your stick into a D8 weapon
- changing the stat you use with to WIS instead of STR
As a future tip, if a spell confuses you, try to break it into smaller parts
If it seems super too powerful (i mean, a cantrip adding d8 to a weapon?), its probably a good clue to re-read it
Iām new to all this and dunno where to start, I saw newcomers sooooo
Iām already confused af
Some stuff to read

Could somebody help me with getting into DnD? I've tried reading all the stuff about it, but it's very hard for me to remember all of it unless somebody explains it to me via vc. I'm sorry if that is too much to ask.
Hi, been playing stormwreck issues starter set. What can we spend our gold on? Is there some kind of shop on the island?
That'd be a question for your DM
Hey I'm a beginner does anyone have dnd beyond
A lot of people use D&D Beyond on this server, what question do you have about it?
I'm trying to find someone to play with that could help me out

what is dnd beyond for?
toolbox i guess
i can't find a game that i can join that accepts beginners
There will be a game out there but itās best to wait until the right game pops up
You'll just have to keep looking, they do come up
In the meantime itās good to go on YouTube and learn some of the basics
ok great thank you
I wish I had time to run a campaign for newer players here
thats unfortunate cause i would of joined
Just got a quick question on how the reborn lineage works. I would like to make a Shadar-Kai Reborn. Does that work? And if yes what traits of Shadar-Kai do i keep?
All you keep re the skills I believe. You dont get the teleportation ability for example
Yeah, only the skill proficiencies and climbing, swimming and flying speeds that you had remain
That'd be more of a question for #dnd-rules (for future reference) but the gothic lineages tell you what you keep
Alr got it but like am i allowed to finish my next question in here or like should i switch?
If it's a rules question, it should go in #dnd-rules
Then that would be more #character-discussion where you discuss your character concepts and builds.
Alr
If you could find a game tonight what type of character would you make
Not really a newcomer question, that'd be better suited to #dnd-discussion or #character-discussion if you want to go in depth about the character

But really, it just follows the first few chapters of the Basic Rules in order.
I have a question. Can I use my action first and then move?
Yep.
Movement is considered "free", you can take it in any order RAW
ok thanks
Okay so like I wanna get really involved and dedicated to d&d, have ever since I was little, but no one ever really tried to stay involved. Im looking forward to this and joined another community have no idea what im doing⦠I so need help from ground zero
What do you need? Im not doing anything rn. Im willing to get you rolling.
Iām on lunch rn so rn is great actually to go over some questions if youāre able to join a vc or call me?
In this channel or the server as a whole?
Like in dnd i mean because i'm here since in my school, you gotta pick an after school club
And the dnd one was the only open one so i joined
Yeah i have zero idea what to do so im here because online tutorials are hard to understand
FYI: i've only played dnd once before and it was awful since the storymaker was always absent and the other players just got bored š
Ah, gotcha. D&D is a game where the players take on the roles of heroic fantasy characters and the Dungeon Master acts as the narrator and rules referee. The DM describes a situation, the players describe what they want to do, dice may or may not be rolled to determine how well they do, and the DM narrtes their success/failure. The three main parts of the game are combat, social encounters, and exploration.
Iirc you make characters and storymaker will lead a story, you have dice(?)
Oh thanks got it
Uh about the channel then, what do you do here
This is about answering basic questions and pointing people to the resources available.

The guided adventure linked above might serve as a better intro to the game!
We discuss the game, mainly, though there are channels for folks to share what they've made, tell stories about what happened in their own sessions, and recruit folks for upcoming (or current) games.
Can you rephrase? I don't understand what you're asking.
Because this is rp so you've gotta find people in a timezone where u aint asleep while they starting an rp
Like i cant join them if its 3am in the morning for them but 7pm or smth for me
And from what i've read up, usually you play dnd on discord with voice call so you have to be awake at the same time to play
No, we don't RP here. But yes, for games people will specify timezones so folks can meet at a mutually convenient time. A lot of members are in the US, but we do have players and DMs from all over the world.
And not all games occur in real-time. Some are done via text and people can chime in as they're available.
Oh ok got it? But i thought dnd was like a roleplay game
It is. We just don't play here on the server.
Oh thanks, didnt know this

What do you play?
I honestly donāt know yet. I believe I have more of a home brew satyress.
I have multiple characters I wanted to use in a game.
What's the name of the game?
Oh my gosh, Iām sorry, i thought you were talking to me. LOL, my bad
Yea but what game
This is a Dungeons and Dragons server. Every channel here, except for #non-dnd-topics is discussing D&D
DnD 5e or bust.
Iām not in a game yet, I was looking to see if I could join a group ti get a good understanding on how to play.
Now that I found the guide book, Iāll just use that
Oh ok, but y'all not telling me what the game is called i wanna google it, i might buy it too
Dungeons and Dragons
so do you actually have to buy d+d or is there a way to play for free
Everything is in my about me š
Free to play using multiple website but I like roll20 the best
Basic rules are free everything else costs money
Dungeons and Dragons is the name of the game. It's a table top role playing game.
The Basic Rules are free.
If you want addtional playable races and classes then you will either have to buy the books (physical or digital), buy the individual races/classes on D&D Beyond, or join a group that shares their books.
And that would be illegal
Nope
And against server rules
Think of the Basic Rules like a demo for a video game. The full game costs money (D&D books cost money because that's how WotC makes money)
They are using different words so itās not plagiarism
You can't promote piracy here.
We know what you're implying...
Any place offering non-SRD material for free.
Oh
We just trying to warn you before the mods smacks down.
Sorry I didnāt know
ok thank you
Remember that this is the official WotC D&D Discord server.
I've created my character already and it's asking me to start a new game on roll20
Yes of course
Oh i was asking about video games lol, so a complete misunderstanding
Yup, if you wish to talk video games you can on our #non-dnd-topics channel. I'm playing Jedi Survivor and Tears of the Kingdom now.
So just another quick question. If I want to play d+d, I just install it I guess on my PC? And then eventually make a group on the website or something?
dungeons and dragons can be played with some dice and a paper character sheet. no computer required. All the stuff you see for it online like D&D Beyond or Roll20 is just ways to make it easier to play with people online
But I can play it online, yes?
yes, I suggest you go looking for a group first since every group will use different tools to play
You can play it in person or online, the latter virtually with various means such as voice/text on Discord and a virtual tabletop (VTT).
Okay, thanks so much for helping. I already made my character though, do you think that would be a problem?
Its okay to go into a game with a general idea for a character, just be prepared to change some things (like rerolling stats, adjusting backstory to fit the game world etc)
If you don't have a DM yet they may ask you to create a new character.
It might not fit the campaign you join, but you can always make another. Talk to the DM of the campaign you join and find out š
Okay, thanks again guys. This has been helpful:)
oops I went off to socialize elsewhere for a minute. DM me later when youre on a PC.
Hey, can someone help me? How do I post on "Looking for DM"?
I will, will 5:00 PM pacific time zone today be good for you?

The free Basic Rules only come with one sub-class per class. If you want more playable sub-classes then you have to buy the Player's Handbook (physical or digital).
Think of the Basic Rules as a game demo and the D&D books as the full video game.
got it thanks
Should I create a character before joining anybodyās community?
You can, but there is no guarantee you'll get to use it in that campaign. I for one like to play around with different ideas, and when joining a campaign will see what fits and do little tweaks as needed
Hello everyone
I would definitely make some characters on D&D Beyond for practice(using either the Standard Array or Point Buy to generate your ability scores), so you can get used to the process and maybe find some archtypes you think would be fun. But like Caraloyse said, don't count on being able to drop one of them straight into a new group. Every group will have their own rules for character generation. Some may have you roll for stats in a specific way(and will often want you to roll where people can see to keep it honest. Some may only allow certain races or even classes(some DMs feel that Artificers don't fit in their world, for example). And of course there's also the nature of the world you'll be playing in, you'll want to make sure your character fits in that world and that campaign.
I just made my first character this morning and have been reading up in the game all day.
Every group Iām tryin to join is wanting me to write a darn essay before, I write for a living⦠I donāt wanna do that
How do you even try to join a group?
Then those might not be the groups for you. There's tons of places to find games/groups, so maybe try them.

You can try to find a group in #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community
do some of the players here play one more multiverse?
You mean more than one table? Sure.
The dnd 3D VTT that isnāt out till next year?
No it's not out. It's barely in alpha
D&D Beyond?
D&D beyond is a website and app that helps you create characters and information, which can be shared with others, including a DM. It isnāt a platform for play.
?homebrew
The term homebrew can refer to a few things, but mostly means "unofficial rules," or rules that you won't find in an official D&D publication.
Homebrewing can be a Dungeon Master creating their own monster from scratch, writing their own adventure, or deciding to permit changes to existing rules to better fit their table or players' needs.
It's important to note that homebrew rules are only acceptable at non-organized tables, and homebrew rules cannot be used at Adventurers League tables. Always check with your DM on what homebrew is (or isn't) permitted at your table.
hi! i am new to dnd and i was wondering how i should go about learning how to play. also, how much should i learn (and how should i/how much should i prepare) before looking for a dnd group to join since i do not have anyone to play with?

ah thank you!
so when it comes to creating a character, would it be recommended to wait on the background for the character until a DM is found that way the background can be based on the campaign?
that might be a dumb question, but i have been told to ignore the set backgrounds and just create a custom one
Thats usually the best, as it can be a good thing to know what kinda backgrounds or setting is being run.
a mistake i made on my first character is keep in mind back story and background are different. when you choose a background it gives additional stuff and is supposed to represent a summed up version of your backstory
for example if your back story is you were a broke kid that had to steal to live, you would probably choose the criminal background
right, but im saying what if i were to create idk an elf whos forest burned down and they had to escape and be forced to live in secret with humans. but then i join a game and the DM says in the world, there is no existance of humans or giant elven forests, and it would cause me to have to create a new character or at least completely rewrite the backstory. so should i just create a backstory and background of my own anyways or just wait for a DM
I'm new to the server and I can't wait to make friends ^°^ I'm not new to DND but don't know were else to say hi so um hi!!
Remember that your ābackstoryā is not the same as your ābackgroundā
The background has a mechanical effect, usually to give equipment, skills, languages, etc
You may be asked to change your backstory to better reflect the setting/lore the DM establishes, so don't set your heart on one idea. My recommendation is to have multiple character concepts and remain flexible so you can adapt the character to the specific game/table you're part of.
Those you can pick bc they affect your build
Your STORY is pure flavor, only affects roleplay. Work with a DM on that, or just keep it looser
The biggest mistake folks make in character creation is an overly rigid, extensive backstory
Remember DND is about going on adventure TOGETHER with your dm and party , and you DONT play your background, as thats history
Wouldnt you rather have more adventure to actually experience? This isnt a book
ah okay, i just figured you had to had some sort of backstory seeing as thats what influenced the background
Some backstory is fine, but don't make it too immutable.
alright
A lot of DMs will try to work with you to bring your ideas to life, but D&D being a social game means that compromise is often necessary.
yea, thats why i was wondering if it would just be the most logical explanation to wait to refine a character until you find a DM and learn the campaign
Loose ideas are probably best until you have a group, yeah.
That is the purpose of a session 0, meet with your DM to review ideas with together and get on the same page
alright cool, thanks!
Best thing is to have an idea that can easily be tinkered
Question-
lets say I have a lvl1 ranger whose con is 18 and theyre proficient with con saving throws
would their hit die be 1d10+4 or 1d10+6?
1d10+4. The proficiency has nothing to do with hit dice.
ok
Check out the instructions in #find-a-game.
What up
Hello where do I go for help on my character background??
That'd be #character-discussion!
How do I post in the ālooking for a dmā tag?
Read #find-a-game - it has instructions
In case the instructions don't click for you:
Head to #1075498333705089084,ā type /looking, choose the appropriate option, fill out the form. If it doesn't go through, you should update your Discord client and/or ensure you have embeds enabled.
Thank you
Hey, I have wanted to play but never have before, is there a place to find groups looking for brand new members?

To post your own instead, simply type /looking-for, select the channel you want, and send.
Do you know the basic rules?
I donāt know how many DMs would enjoy having to teach someone the basic rules completely from scratch
It would generally be appreciated if you had a basic grasp of the rules before joining a game
Why is this so hard
Why is what so hard?
Thank you! I will better familiarize myself with the rules and come back!
Everything about it
About dnd?
I mean fair but this isnāt a server for ranting about how hard life is
That's #non-dnd-topics
As therapeutic as it can be
can somebody help me out about which languages are the most useful ? š„ŗ
That can be campaign setting specific. A DM's homebrew world may not have any elves so elvish would be pointless to have.
can i dm you?
No.
fair enough
Ask your DM what languages are popular in their campaign setting world.
im creating my character and haven't played yet
Be prepared to create a new character if you join a table. Don't get too attached to the one you've created.
y?
Because the DM may ask you to create new character. They may not allow cerrtain playable races and/or sub-classes.
oh okay
alright time to finally find a name for my first character and i would love for someone to assist me with the name of him
I usually get my names here:
https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/
Hello
Are you able to play dnd with the dnd beyond app and if so how do you go about doing that
Iām new to this whole dnd thing and want to try and get into with my son
The dnd beyond app is not for hosting or playing games. It is a tool for tracking info
How serious are we talking with this name, I could type your eyes out with the naming conventions of the various fantasy races but don't want to do that if its not what you're looking for
my first character he is a Kobold Sorcerer, Level 7, with a draconic bloodline (gold dragon) and i want him to be obsessed with relics and findings of the dragons and the history of the dragons [His name is Bogi, Draconic Breeder] this name was a joke for me wantin him to try and sleep with each draconic being he came across but id love for someone to try and assist me come up with a better title then Draconic Breeder something that goes more with him being crazy over artifacts of the dragons
Ok so then I would have to join a group then to actually play
D&D Beyond is just for character sheets and digital books. If you want to play online you would need other apps, such as Discord for text/voice and virtual tabletops (such as Roll20 and Foundry).
For the pc

Starting my first campaign as DM in a couple weeks with Lost Mine, any tips for first timers?
Ask in #dm-discussion to avoid posting potential spoilers here
Haha, that is certainly a unique goal
How about, Bogi the... Stone Eyed, Seeker of Old Scales, Delver Draconic or Dusty Dragon?
i like the old scales one
Bogi, Collector of Old Scales [kinda stole yours] but opinion?
mayhaps Bogi, Seeker of Old Scales?
Seeker and Scales both starting with S sound nice together, I'm sure theres a litterary word for that kind of thing
oh lol Seeker was my original concept, I entirely didn't notice, Collector sounds like it will do nicely just as well

But if you have any specific questions, ask away!
Thanks š I'll look through the info and get back to you
In older pre-printrd adventureās, factions were a bigger thing so being part of some organization had relevance.
You dont anything in that area, it was something that just might have occurred as you played
You can incorporate an org as part of your backstory but your DMās world may not feature it so it is something to work out ahead of time
It has no mechanical effect on your character
These are my generic DM tips: #dnd-newcomers message
I know I have some LMoP tips somewhere. I can ping you if/when I find them if you like.
#1029835597168267384 is a good place to get advice, too.
A good place to start is skimming through the basic rules, which you can find linked here: #dnd-newcomers message
I would especially recommend the chapters on making a character, using abilities, and perhaps combat
From there, you could try your hand at making a character to get a feel for it

Also fyi sharing your age is against the rules. perhaps check out #rules while at it š

Mirage Arcane?
A mile is 1609.334 meters
Not really a dnd question, just unit of measurement conversion
yeah I know
but I want to see if they put something along the lines of 1600 meters or 1610 meters in the books
The books don't.
Translated books do though
The officially translated ones I believe still use feet.
You might be seeing fan translations that converted units to metric.
Like is movement broken down into 1.5 meter squares?
Yeah
yes
This seems more confusing to me to do everything in fractions and decimals.

4E didn't really bother with feet just squares (that happen to be 5'x5')
Please remember that this channel is for beginner level discussion of D&D and getting started. We have more suitable channels for these topics
the Polish one is metric as well, and some of the ranges on spells are flat out wrong lol. we still play using feet
I like my non decimal "fantasy" units of measurement
Hello, just joined
Does Handbooker Helper have videos on character creation?
I've relied on D&D beyond for a while but I want the full experience so from now on I'm filling out pdf character sheets instead
The Handbook Helper videos just help to break down the rules into nice digestible videos.
You will likely still want to refer to the free basic rules for character creation details: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
They have videos on races, backgrounds, and ability scores, but not a full breakdown of character creation. For that, you might check out WASD20, Dungeon Dudes, Tabletop Weekly Archive, or Donāt Stop Thinking.
Youāll need the rules that Noob linked, though.
Right
Thanks y'all are so helpful and everything y'all have immense gratitude from me

Hey so Iām trying to make a twilight cleric tiefling character for a curse of strahd game Iām joining (first time playing) but I canāt make it on dnd beyond for some reason is there any way to do it?
Do you have the players handbook on it and whatever book twilight cleric is in? or in a campaign where someone can share those?
I donāt I used a friends book to choose my character options but then I went onto the app and it wasnāt showing up as an option
D&D Beyond only has the free stuff found in the Basic Rules and SRD. Everything else you need to unlock by either buying the book, buy the individual playable race/class (around $2 each), or be in a campaign that has digital content shared.
you have to own them on your account to have access. Or if you are in the campaign and someone has the master membership (i believe thats the name) and they have those books you can have access
I have the Master Tier sub which allows me to share my digital books with my players.
just figured out what a one shot game was
Hey! I donāt wanna be annoying, but I was wondering how to make an ālooking-for-dmā post.
@wild ridge Follow the instructions found in #find-a-game or #1075498333705089084
Okay, thx!
is there any race that looks like rabbit/bunny ?
Yeah, the harengon.
what would be a good class to play with it ?
Whatever class you like.
though I always struggled to go with Druid for races that already look like animals for some reasons
the typical would probably be a dex based class but any class would be good
Hi all, I'm reasonably new to Dnd and I'm looking for a new campaign! I'm not too confident when it comes to roleplaying but I'm really into the combat and exploration side of it! I'm having a tough time finding a campaign that's just starting, I'd feel a bit awkward if I join halfway through when everyone has already met. Anyone know a new campaign I can join as a semi-noob?
Check the instructions in #find-a-game for using the recruitment channels.
You can use Discordās search function to limit yourself to particular channels and keywords (such as beginner, new, etc.).
Ah brillaint, thank you!
do you have to hold your spellcasting focus when you're casting spells ?
or just having it attached to your belt counts ?
If the spell requires a Material component
No, you have to hold it with a free hand.
okay thanks
A focus just narratively replaces the use of a component pouch.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spellcasting#MaterialM
If a spell states that a material component is consumed by the spell, the caster must provide this component for each casting of the spell. A spellcaster must have a hand free to access a spell's material components -- or to hold a spellcasting focus -- but it can be the same hand that he or she uses to perform somatic components.
If you are a cleric or paladin you can use a holy symbol as a focus on a shield you hold or if you wear it visibly, but that is the only way I know of that you don't have to hold the focus individually
yeah that's what our paladin does
yeah. most do. Just figured in case you were one of those and didn't know
oh wait no he doesn't
because he lost his shield one time and when I said he couldn't cast spells anymore (with M component), he said he had his focus at his belt
oh
guess he's been doing that
yeah. as long as it is visible somewhere on the character it still works though at least.
oh and the staff arcane focus is also a good weapon since it functions as a quarterstaff as well, but the only ones that do not have to be in your hand at all are the holy symbols
hello i have only played dnd once but i had an amazing time life has settled down a little and i would LOVE to get into a campaign and make some new friends

Hi, just bought Dragon of Icespire Peak. There are a lot of maps in this book but they are al very small. Where can i find pdf so i can pront them myself?
if you're playing in person you would draw them out on graph paper or a white board.
If you're playing online, you should have the code for the adventure on D&D Beyond. There you can download the high res maps.
I believe the previous box set + dndbeyond code is now done.
The only way to get both physical/digital product is by purchasing one of the select bundles on the Wizards of the Coast's website.
What module should I run after dragon of icespire peak.
Depends on the style of play and amount of time you want to put in. The 5E adventure books tend to be full blown campaigns from levels 1 to 12/15.

So what made you want to learn about D&D if you know nothing about it? Did you see it on a show?
There is a bit of a steep learning curve as it's a game of rules.
can it even be called a curve? more like a learning mountain
Well Iāve always known of itās existence because big bang theory but then my tiktok fyp was like youāre a dungeon master and it just came up in this show Iām watching and I have zero social interaction so Iām just here
Sure but I'm trying not to dissuade new players.
Oof Iām like a really slow learner
That's fine. Read the Basic Rules at your own pace. Again, there's also the "Handbooker Helper" tutorial videos you can watch.
Buttttt I have literally nothing else to do so lemme look at this character building thing, thatās drawn me in and Iāll watch those videos
I finished the #DnDBeforeTheStorm adventure as a Cleric with 8/11 health points.
I donāt know what that means but Iām pretty sure Iām winning pffffšš

āš» Updated!
It's been shrunk
Yup. Pared it down to just the essentials.
It's less imposing for new players.
Good, ācause that was the goal.
Blast em with the facts.
Please see #find-a-game for how to use our #looking-for channels. The other channels are for discussions, not scheduling a D&D group or game.
sorry that came off sounding harsher than it should but the short of it is to not use this channel for trying to find or schedule a D&D game.
Looking to understand how to join a game, how to get invited? Can someone help?

I'm very much new to DnD my boyfriend plays it
Read the free Basic Rules (at least the first four chapters on character creation).
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Both are linked above.
Thanks also the build a character feature on the website is giving me a 504 forbidden error for some reason
Hey guys! I've literally just joined the community and all I have is a filled out character sheet. are there any particular places to find a group who would be willing to show a new guy the ropes?
