Pathfinder it is
Question: What is a good primal path for my barbarian? I want to focus on being at the front and dealing some damage
Totem Barbarian is great if you want to be in front and take lots of hits, thanks to the bear ability.
Beast Barbarian can also be very useful, if you have access to Tasha's, since it gives you some extra attack and movement options.
Tasha?
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything is a book full of new player options like subclasses.
?tcoe
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything (TCoE) is an official sourcebook containing options for players and DMs. Learn more: https://dndbeyond.link/discordTCOE
Oh got it, probably will go with totem but I wonder, RAGE already gives a lot of resistances, does the bear add more resistances?
Path of Giant is another good choice.
Yes. Normally rage gives resistance to slashing/bludging/piercing. bear totem gives resistence to everything but psychic
The beast “tank” ability is the one from Ancestral Guardian. It doesn’t boost your offense or defense but it ensures that one bad guy will only target you
Got it, will go with the bear from totem and just be a meatball at the front
Thats the idea
Beware the tank fallacy:
If you are big and tough to be the tank…why would bad guys hit you?
Gotta give them a reason, by positioning and any role playing avenues
Yeah, I will make everybody get behind me unless they are also melee
Howdy eveyone 🙂
Kinda new to dnd and looking to try it out, im a worlock and plane to get the pact of blades
yeah im new XD
yeah i like it so far
Any class can be good.
agreed
And for good - I mean fun to play.
depends on which of my many characters we're referring to
Thats fair XD
But one of my favs is a fighter battle master
I gravitate to wizard when I’m a player
oooh nice nice
i just started my first campaign a few weeks ago so i only have one character XD, coming on here to see if i can find or help start a party and play some other campaigns
Ah - check out our #looking-for channels - see #find-a-game for info about those channels and how to use them.
awsome! thanks for the tip mate!
And please remember that putting together most D&D games/groups takes time and patience. It often isn't as easy as say a video/PC game matchup system.
thats understandable, not in a rush so shouldn't be a problem
Hai
Hi
Hello. I am new to this server but wanted to see is there a way to search for a game type, time, and video and voice. Is there a way to search for that specifically?
Just Discord's search functionality here unfortunately (and in the #looking-for channels).
Gotcha ty I'll be searching then
You can also use other websites/services like Demiplane, Roll20, Facebook, other RPG websites/forums to find D&D games as well.
Yeah I tried roll20
But I didn't find what interest me they want one shots and I want a campaign
But this search way is not working lol. I can't seem to find what I need. Is there a place a person can post explaining to a Dm hey this is what I am looking for and time zone /time frame etc ?
Looking for a good group is like dating. Keep looking. Openings get filled very fast because there are waaaay more players than DMs.
I mean you can make a post in #750812887697588356 (see #find-a-game for info on how to do that) that basically states what you're looking for.
But yeah, patience and continued searching is your best option for finding the right group and game.
Yes, I did see that but unfortunately when I read this guide I am utterly lost on how to post in there. Sorry, I am not to good with discord. I'll just have to wait or try and figure it out. But thank you both for the help.
@frigid nacelledont give up
Right here in this channel type /looking-for then at the prompt add dm - the bot will then give you a form to fill out.
The bot will then create your post in #750812887697588356 and add a thread to it. Use the thread to communicate and add any corrections/updates.
After 7 days, your posting will be automatically removed and you can post again.
Do I hit enter after typing? Bc it does not tell me anything but does popp up?
So when the popup shows up, select the kind of posting you want to make
Basically the /looking-for triggers the bot, you then select the application you want to use (/looking-for dm) and the bot gives you the right form to fill out.
Does that make sense?
Okay gotcha
Lol I swear when I read that guide it was in another language , but thank you for the simplicity
No worries - we all have different mental models and although we've tried our best to make the instructions as simple and easy to understand, it may not click for everyone and sometimes explaining it slightly different helps folks "get it". But if you have any suggestions on how to make the instructions better, please use #520291181083754516 and the ticket button there to create a feedback ticket and let us know how it could be improved.
So, for a monk, you can use your monk weapon instead of unarmed strikes, so does that mean, that for flurry of blows, I can make 2 attacks with my monk weapon instead of unarmed strikes?? Feels unbalanced. But whatever, for a bad class like this doesnt seem so bad
I am just dumb lol but ty so much
No - flurry of blows clearly states it uses the unarmed strike.
And monks are not that bad of a class.
He guys I like some tips because I'm new to dnd like do I need to buy dice tip for my campaign
You should have a set of gaming dice for your first session, yeah
Beside that, if you have a character sheet; and a pen and paper for notetaking you'll be right, everything else can be optional
I don't have a character sheet but paper no dice what about campaign how do I do stuff like join a session
And how do I get/make a character sheet

Thanks
Can I use monk weapon (weapon infused with ki) instead of unnarmed strikes in flurry of blows
No - flurry of blows is only unarmed strikes
At least rules as written - if your DM decides to change things... well that's on them and they'll have to figure out how to balance it all.
AideDND is a pretty good site as well
But i say its def better to roll it up yourself, I just use it if i need to make a quick NPC sheet
in any server i could make a post and have an entire westmarch server ready to start lol
(obviously exaggeratted but its good advice)
Well that's what #looking-for-community is about - finding other D&D servers that may have games going on
can you tell me where it says that, like in what book or smth, im seeing all kinds of answers everywhere
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/monk#Ki-228 - "Flurry of Blows: Immediately after you take the Attack action on your turn, you can spend 1 ki point to make two unarmed strikes as a bonus action."
Where are you seeing says flurry of blows can use weapons? The feature itself say unarmed strikes
Evening all!
I am extremely new to DnD and about to, hopefully, start my first campaign as a player.
My first question is: help…

Hey guys, I'm pretty much brand new to playing dnd and I was just wondering how serious the roleplay is usually. I have never really roleplayed before so Im kinda nervous. If you guys have any tips please let me know.
It honestly depends on the table. However you want to roleplay, your table should respect your comfort level. If not, find a new one.
The Basic Rules describe two major approaches here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/adventuring#Roleplaying. Use whatever works for you.
So I have never played but have wanted to for a while and I don’t have a group and I can’t find one where should I start?
Your local gaming store and/or local Adventurer’s League
Would GameStop work?
Does your local gamestop sell Tabletop games? I am pretty sure theyre a video game store
I mean a specific tabletop store. Usually they sell magic cards and/or comics
I don’t really know that’s the only place I can think of I live in the middle of nowhere and that’s the closest thing but I can google places around me
what broad area do you live in? You can usually just use yelp
if there’s a university near by there are usually groups
I’m going to look it up and see what I find thank you
What do you think I would need to get to get started

If you don't have a store that sells board games and the like, contact any nearby comics shops, hobby shops, or libraries. They may have D&D programming or know what places might. See if there's any local events by using https://locator.wizards.com/.
There's also tons of avenues for finding online games if that's of interest to you.
Thank you
As for what you need to get started, if you're a player, learn how to make a character by reviewing the rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
If that's too much reading, look up Handbooker Helper and/or D&D Rules School on YouTube to understand the fundamentals. Make a character for practice. Get some dice (or use digital ones). And you need folks to play with, one of whom needs to run the adventure (and there's free ones out there).
Thank you this really helps I was just thinking I don’t know how to start off and got overwhelmed thank you so much
Hello, is there a background that says something like "your DM have to give you one additional item"
I remember i read about that somewhere but i forgot the name of the background
Something like magic item inheritation
Um, there's no background that gives a free magic item.
Hello
Inheritor
Which doesn't include a magic item though, only non-magical stuff.
Read it again
I"m looking at the list of 8 items
Inheritor specifically suggests working with the DM to figure out the item
So if they allow it, it could potentially be a magical item if it works with your backstory/character, but no you wouldnt be able to use this as a "you HAVE to give me a magic item" 😛
The closest thing would be "An arcane book or formulary"
- The DM also determines the properties of your inheritance and how they figure into the item's history and importance. For instance, the object might be a minor magic item, or one that begins with a modest ability and increases in potency with the passage of time. *
Right.
Fun background with a lot of potential, but definitely still up to the DM to determine how things work 👍
Heya!
Btw this channel is for people completely new to dnd looking for info on the game
Not ppl new to the server
Would me being on my second campaign count as new?
This is like people wondering how to start playing
Welcome need help with anything
If people feel like they're still a newcomer or beginner to D&D, they're welcome to use this channel. If questions go beyond the basics, those questions will just get redirected to a more suitable channel
Boop ! Are there good addons for 'caves/small dungeons' ? my brother the GM wants to add some small one shot dungeons , to bring more variety for us ;o we looked at Candlekeep Mysteries ?
What do you mean by 'addons'? Add ons for what?
Like an extra book ;P for roll 20
I mean, I already played online for half a year but for my first irl session I asked here. Thats kinds being a newcomer, right?
Yes sometime people just want to go back to basics
Ah, so some one-shot adventures? Yeah, Candlekeep Mysteries would be a good book for that, although it's not "caves/small dungeon" focused
I've had a character for months and months but haven't had a game yet lmao
it can take a while, but it's important to note that going in with a character ready made can limit your chances
A lot of DMs prefer people to make characters specific to the campaign
Yeah that's fair, and I'd be happy to make a character, granted I only know DnDBeyond to do so
How is sheild master good? (Playing as a goliath barbarian with ancestral gardian
Gives you a boost to dex saving throws and reducing damage. And a bonus action to knock enemies away
And potentially knock them prone
Ok but as a level 2 barbarian you get advantage on dex saves anyway
For traps
This gives it for everything
Against spells and also if you need to Dex save to take half damage and you succeed you can use your reaction to take no damage
Ahh ok.... don't other feats or just the normal boost just do better tho?
Well no other feat does the same stuff
So there’s still benefits to taking shield master
Also it’s not only for barbs
And also the using reaction to take no damage seems pretty good
How do reactions work?
Basically between every turn of yours you get one reaction you can use
And there’s multiple things that work on reaction
Like that
Or a good example is the shield spell, if an enemy makes an attack against you and succeeds you can use your reaction to cast shield and temporarily increase your ac by 5 meaning they may not hit anymore
Ok
But if you do that and another enemy targets you and succeeds on their attack afterwards but before your next turn, you’ve used your reaction so you can’t do it again
But you get your reaction back on your next turn
Shield lasts until the start of your next turn
Ok but as ansestrial gardian I need reaction anyway(6 level thing
Also it only really gives a +2 to dex saving throws that does not seem to good
V getting dex and con to 17 and at lvl 8 18
Actually I right now have a 17 in con so that will give me 18 in con 17 and at level 8 I will have 19 in con and a 18 in dex
(Right now at 20 strength so that doesn't matter)
Hi! I wanted to know if you know a French discord on DnD, or if there are any French players on the server who are looking for a player, thank you 🙂
There probably are French RPG Discords out there - your best bet to find them is to check French websites for RPG gaming communities.
Due to the specific language/culture though they may be more generalist RPG servers rather than D&D focussed.
I actually found RPG servers on discord but indeed they're not specialized in D&D unfortunatly :/
I'm finding it kind of hard to come up with a backstory for my first character
Generally I suggest working with your DM and fellow players. Also keep it short and sweet. I've heard others say it should be like swiss cheese - flavorful to be interesting with lots of holes so that you and your group can fill it in through playing.
I was just showing that you can only react once
What do you need your reaction for?
I don't have a DM or fellow players yet, I'm currently trying to get into my first Campaign
Okay well go ahead and create your character with the understanding you may need to modify it or create a different one to fit the group and kind of D&D game you're playing. So as far as backstory - keep it simple and maybe explain how you ended up adventuring. But also don't try and paint your character as this awesome god-killing hero/antihero, especially if you're level 1.
I have a character created, it's just a case of coming up with something for a backstory xD
as am i, what timezone are you in?
Where do I find dm
So here's some prompts...
- What kind of community/culture did your character come from?
- What did they do before adventuring? (look at character background)
- Why did they end up adventuring? (power, prestige, wealth, pure boredom)
British, so GMT
no way! same here
Hi folks - please do not coordinate games/groups here - use the proper channels or direct message each other. Thanks!
Ty
Thank you for the prompts, I should've figured using my Background/Proficiencies would be a good place to start
I will say, my character is somewhat an intellectual goofball
i have like five character ideas i keep forgetting to do
does anyone know how to set up a character via Dicecloud? i cant get the stats to change, though if necessary i can use DND Beyond
Your best bet with Dicecloud is to ask on their Discord
Odysseus is a Cobalt Soul Sage, specialising in arcana and history, but when it comes to real-life situations he's kind of a tool 😂
where can i find that?
It's on the dicecloud website
thanks
yeah, i use V1 dicecloud and there isnt one, so i guess i'll change to DND Beyond
DnDBeyond is pretty good from the experience I've had so far
The dice roll feature is a bit (very) laggy though
thats why I use Avrae the Discord bot to do my dice rolling
whoosh Over my head :p
i use Dice Maiden 😎
Avrae is actually owned by DnDBeyond (which is now part of D&D owned by Wizards of the Coast which is part of Hasbro).
Some of the devs behind Avrae are actually on this server.
anyway... back to D&D
i actually cant make a DND beyond account?
the verify links just take me to the my accounts page, and i cant log in on DND beyond
DnDBeyond requires a Google, Apple, or (now deprecated) Twitch account to login.
You'll also need to make sure your browser allows third-party cookies for access
Well I mean it means the devs don't have to spend time building a custom account and auth system
now it works
I blame caching lol
Yes, you can. That's a recent addition
it was broken for me
okay
So one important thing to note with DnDBeyond's character builder tool - you can only use the free SRD classes out of the box.
If you want class options from specific books, you either need to own the book on DnDBeyond, have access to it via a DNDBeyond campaign with content sharing enabled, or use the DnDBeyond homebrew tools to create the things you need. But one cool things is that you can buy just specific classes, spells, items, etc. a la carte through DnDBeyond. Whatever you buy gets deducted from the full book cost so if you decide to buy the book anyway, it's that much cheaper.
Looking at my flaws make me giggle, "Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy." & "I speak without really thinking through my words, invariably insulting others."
im making a DnDBeyond character rn and i have no clue what im doing 😭
im just agreeing to everything
Maybe try looking through the basic rules on character creation
I got lucky in that department, I had a friend helping me figure out the creation stuff
okay, i am pretty sure i have made a character
That was fast, I spent several hours going through mine XD
Hello!
Level 6 ansestrial gardian skill uses reaction and I am a goliath so I have the rock hard (reduces damage by 1d12 once per rest) thing
👋
Hey ..I am brand new to d&d ..a friend and I would love to get a group going or join a more experienced group to learn ..finding it a little daunting tbh any help would be appreciated
I am also brand new to DnD and looking for a group 😛
I guess this is as good a place to start as any lol
I've had a character for months, but didn't really do much with him until now xD
I’ve been looking for some help with character creation but not having much luck in afraid
This may be able to help you then!
I’ve made 2 on d&d beyond but I think I had information overload so I’m not sure I’ve done it correctly
It's quite a lot to take in isn't it 😂
You can share a character link over in #character-discussion if you want someone to double-check it.
It’s a lot!
Thank you!
Took me a couple of hours with a friend talking me through details of certain things
You’re lucky I don’t really know anyone else who plays ..my friend and I are in the same boat lol
I will say it was quite fun creating a character
It’s fun but I’d rather be playing lol reading the rule books is fine but I’m definitely one of those ‘I’ll learn as I go’ people lol

Heya , is there something for a thieves guild ? Like prepared quests that one could add into the game for a thief / rouge ? to gather informations , steal , assassinate etc ?
You could play Keys from the Golden Valut.
I don't think so, the best I could think of is creating an outline of
-pay
-whats being stolen
-risk(i.e noble or bandits)
They are good thieves though, they don't murder or do bad things.
Yup. Keys from the Golden Vault are all about heists and thievery.
"Go steal that thing or a bad thing will happen!"
It's like Indiana Jones.
I say that having run nothing from the book.
Are those one shots ? or do they take a few sessions ?
One shots to a few shots maybe. Depends on the group.
They aren't meant to be more than 1 I would think.
They’re designed as independent adventures, but I’ve had groups take an entire IRL year to finish a “one-shot” so it depends on your group 😅
Haha ;P could be mine cough
Try searching with those keywords on DMsGuild. It’s a repository of content ranging from one-shots up through full campaigns (and more aside from adventures).
Were starting Storm kings thunder this week ... were trying to find how tall they are since someone is using a catapult as a skill with 5 pounds ammo ;P we found one that is 18 and is 11 feet tall , how big is a grown up tho? i would be surprised if 5 pounds hurt them ;O
A grown up catapult?
Grown up giant ;P
Depends on the type of giant.
i see that they can be huge , but it says 15x15 which i guess is the size on the map
Hey folks, one question. Do I choose any special subclass on D&D Beyond webpage with the normal account at lvl1? Like specific subclasses for fighters and so on
A good many classes get their subclass at level 3, so at level 1 you won’t need to worry about it.
Amazing
Yeah, it depends on the class.
What you’ve chosen to purchase and what content your DM allows will affect what’s available to you, tho.
But it'll happen somewhere between levels 1 and 3.
Fighters specifically get their at 3.
A friend of mine is obsessed with the harengon race. How do you create this character as it doesn't come up on dndbeyond
Only the races in the Basic Rules are available by default.
Harengon are available in Monsters of the Multiverse.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/mordenkainen-presents-monsters-of-the-multiverse
They can even buy just that race if that's all they want. Whatever they spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.
Ahh ok thanks!
What are some good level 2 spells for wizard?
What you after damage, control, utility?
Is that all you have?
Ya Magic Initiate and my DM made it so I can take it again but with one more Cantrip, 1st level and 2nd level spell
Ah I see what class are you?
Rouge
How do you have wizard spells a rogue? Arcane trickster?
Shadow blade can be used with sneak attack, spider climb, misty step
Magic Initiate feat
Ah sorry didn't see that.
Xanathars
Ahhh
Shadow blade is pretty good I will take it
Hey if an enemy is deceived by someone during battle does that same person get another turn or can someone else attack with advantage
What do you mean by "deceived"?
Also, nobody gets “another turn”, the initiative order remains and all action economy rules still apply
FWIW, the Help action can be taken to give someone else advantage on an attack, and could easily be flavored as distracting or deceiving the target.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#Help
Can also work for the battlemaster feature where you get someone else to hit with advantage

Leta go I am doing my first campaign!
WOOOOOOO
Hello I am very new only played 1 oneshot and i was thinking about buying the player bundle but I'm not sure if i should buy it on roll20 or dndBeyond which one would you guys recommend? I don't know which of the 2 is used more so i need some advice. It is also worth mentioning that the one on roll20 is cheaper but does not have the sword coast adventurer's gudie
It honestly depends. I find Roll20’s learning curve to be steeper than DDB, but it’s also more robust—it’s a full virtual tabletop in the way that DDB isn’t (yet). But I know R20 doesn’t run well on mobile.
The digital books on Roll20 is limited to you only playing on Roll20, however, D&D Beyond has both a mobile app and the website and you can use it with Roll20.

Dope
Read the free Basic Rules (at least the first four chapters on character creation).
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
Both are linked above
Checking out the handbook helper now, thanks.
I may be getting ahead of myself but I wish to ask this in advance, if I am interested in learning and understanding/joining a dms homebrew setting where would I find these dms?
For just general dm searching stuff I'd assume you could use roll20/similar services or one of the D&D Games channels here. I don't know about finding homebrew stuff in specific though!
Sorry I misread your post as wanting to learn how homebrew the rules rather than join a homebrew setting.
Nah you're good.
A warning that it may be difficulty to find a DM/group. Openings get filled up very quickly. Not all DMs will host to brand new players but there are some that are friendly to help out new players. Just be patient in your search of finding your first game.
I ahve a question; I see some background options for your character creation on D&D Beyond. What about the rest of them? Are they for concrete settings or can be chosen everywhere?
That's more of an Ask You DM question - many DMs are fine with you selecting any official background. You can also work with your DM and group to create custom backgrounds specifically for the game/campaign you're playing in. And some DMs may prohibit certain backgrounds because it doesn't fit the D&D game theme the group wants to play.
Hi guys! We plan to do our first campaign soon, and i was trying to search for some program or online site where i can manage tokens and stuff, manly for the battles.
I found Roll20. We plan to use D&D beyond for rolls and stuff, so i just want to stream my web to my friends but then i cant really make the enemies invisible in the gm layer, because they see what i see. Is there a good way to make it to work out somehow? Or any other good websites that can help me with this problem?
Oh. Good to know.
Roll20 has a player role - your players can join your game as players and access their own tokens (and move them). Then use DnDBeyond for rolling/updating sheets and just use Roll20 for tokens and maps.
No need to stream your screen to your players.
Alrighty, i knew they can join, i just wondered if there is any way to save them the trouble 😄
Now if some of your players only have mobile devices... that gets a bit trickier as most VTTs (Virtual Tabletops) like Roll20 don't really support mobile.
But Owlbear.Rodeo can.
In fact Owlbear.Rodeo is one of the simplest and easiest to use VTTs out there
No they have PCs so thats not a problem, basically i am in the US, and my friends live in the EU. So i just try to avoid anything that can be problematic with servers by habit.
Thanks for the suggestion, i will check Owlbear out!
Greetings all!
welcome
Thank you!
I have a question about one of the guide bookes that should have existed already in…1994-1995 maybe? What is the right channel?
Older versions of D&D - that would be #dnd-elder-editions.
is there a site where i could find all digital dice rolled for me thats free?
D&D Beyond has them, as does all the major VTTs.
There’s dddice.com
There’s Discord bots that can do it. You can head over to #ddb-avrae-commands and type !roll 1d20+3
@echo kelp sorry to ping and bother you. I checked out owlbear and this is awesome thank you!
I see i can change my maps and its saves every edit. But is it saving it if i close the tab and stuff? Because i didnt really seen like an account or anything. How does this work?
Are you using owlbear.rodeo or owlbear.app?
owlbear.rodeo
So that’s the first version of the site.
Everything is saved to your own machine, so you can close it and open it again later.
But other people can really only see it while you’ve got the site running.
One big, important thing to note: that site’s going away in July.
owlbear.app is the newer version, and the reason .rodeo is going away.
Everything gets saved to their server, and you can upload quite a bit for free.
Since they host it, your group can access it all at any time.
I see, thank you so much!
And same thing goes: you can leave and come back and pick up right where you were.
There’s a bunch of other cool new features in .app as well.
Definitely worth the switch.
And if you do want to stream a player view, one trick I use is to open it another browser and stream from there.
So I can keep using it in my main browser, and any changes I make are automatically shared to the player screen and shown to the group.
I know it will sound stupid, but i opened up the newer site, and im only looking for one thing, is it possible on the new site to stream music from my browser? when i seen this function on the old site, i was so happy it souds so cool to just start a battle music out of nowhere when an ambush happens. 😄
Not sure. I don’t think I’ve tried music in either version. 😅
Alright, thanks for all the help, i really appriciate it!
Hey, hope everyone's well tonight/today/this evening 🙂
So I was thinking of buying dnd so me and my friend can play, but the problem is that I am a complete newbie at this game and don't know how to dm. What are the things I need to know and do to at least be a not so bad dm?
You don't need to buy anything yet. The Basic Rules are free and there's a starter adventure made for new players and DMs called The Lost Mine of Phandelver (it's free with all D&D Beyond accounts).
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/lmop
If you want to learn to DM, head over to #dm-discussion to ask questions and advice.
Wait seriously, that amazing I can't wait to play with my friends. I should go and study the rules and stuff before I play this with my friends. Thanks a lot

Can I play with pencil and paper
Yep
You can print out a character sheet from here: https://dnd.wizards.com/resources/character-sheets
Tell me true, do rangers suck?
No they do not
Nope! My favourite class 😄
Nope, they were always fine except beast master. Tasha's fixes beast master and gives rangers more universal, non-dm dependant abilities which helps.
"Rangers suck" is an olde time meme from people who probably don't play much dnd.
If you buy a subclass you get the class.

hello, i am kinda scare of it or something like that but... is being minmaxer bad?
It's not bad if it fits with how everyone else at the table wants to play
D&D is all about everyone being on the same page in terms of expectations
I mean not by itself, and depends on what you mean by min-maxer, as some people tend to mix "powergaming" and "min-maxing", first one being focusing on making the most optimal character, while the latter being, as name suggest, being really good at one thing at the expense of other things
Actually wait I think I might be thinking of something else rn 🤔
Trouble I have with the entire concept of min-maxing in D&D is how much of the game just doesn't depend on the numbers. You, as a player, need to be interactive with your environment and creative with your problem solving to even open up the opportunities to take advantage of the numbers.
So it's not bad. But it's maybe half the game. Learn how to min-max your RPing too.
Basically in and of itself, not inherently a bad thing
The attitude of "I want my character to be good" is fine. If some other behavior is affecting people's enjoyment, then it can become a problem.
For example, if someone started rules arguments at the table so their character could be stronger. That's not a problem with min/maxing, it's a player issue.
It's a pretty pointless argument too, with a decent DM. The DM should be able to scale difficulty to match the players' power
Yup, thus the crux of min/max.
You're stronger, so you'll probably face more challenging stuff unless your dm doesn't change anything.
I have no probably with power gamers/min-maxers at my table — they optimized their characters legally then fine. I just have issue when they try to exploit rules in their favour or not heed my ruling if it goes against what they want.
One player argued with me when I told her she couldn't eat more than one Goodberry per turn, even after I read her the spell description.
by minmaxing i mean like ( i main paladin i just want you to know that i pick paladin before i relieshow much dmg he do ) class and race plus background which gives me self advantage in dmg in AC in features that gives me dmg boost featurs that gives me like interception wich gives me the ability to reduce dmg and that kind of stuff
resistance by something
That's just a normal character.
Yeah that
You're fine.
uh my friend called me minmaxer so'
Then their definition of a min-maxer is really vague and essentially meanignless 😎
"You built a character that does things that are good?!?"
"How dare you not make the most unoptimized character possible"
But yeah unless your friend is the DM, dont worry about it!
"You built a paladin! Off with his head!"
its mostly when i start talking about sub races cus they give the most stuff
like bonus skill proficiency or smt like that
You might have just been overloading them
If you were talking a ton about it and they don't care.
no no i mean
by talking i mean asking the " pro" dnd player which elf sub race is better
Hi
Hallo hollow knight
and i end up choosing variant ( forot which variant lol)
Hello boruto
I think you're the first person to call me out on it.
On boruto?
Yeah, but not really on topic I suppose.
yea...
And I'm not the hollow knight
I called by the franchise not the character
Yeah, it's like calling someone with a Link PFP "Zelda".
xd
lol
That's right.
still quite confused about what race i should use for bard but ig any goes
hello~
hi
yup! newcomer!
i know nothing about dnd... ive always been interested but i dont have people around me that plays dnd...
Same
not really i have played dnd in school
so i thought joining the server would help me learn about it! and maybe play a session!
tho i still quite bad at makeing charecters
lucky~
Race isn't super important, so feel free to pick ones that look cool
nobody in my school knows what it is...
How can you even start online game? with link and chat or...
ah oki then ik
thats a really good question... i would like to know the answer for that as well
You can create your own private Discord server to host text/chat
So you NEED discord to play on dnd beyond?
No.
D&D Beyond is just a site/app for character sheets and digital books. That's it.
If you want to play online you would want means of communicate, either via text and/or voice chat. Discord provides that for you.
so discord is just a gateway to communicate with people so that you can play with other people
If you want to show battle maps then you would want a virtual tabletop (VTT), such as Roll20, FoundryVTT, or owlbear.rodeo.
You still have to set up your own group. These are just tools for you to use.
So you make world and invite people?
As DM, I organize everything: from the adventure, inviting playings, setting up all the online tools (Discord, FoundryVTT server, sharing my D&D Beyond digital books with my players, organizing the sessions, etc)
wow... thats so cool
I usually play with (ex-) coworkers but recently found two new players from here and on a local Facebook D&D group.
WOW
being a dm must be a lot of work
It can be.
thats awesome
i believe that when the players change a lot then go the other way
i mean it can be chaotic sometimes as DM what i seen from those 2 time i have played in school
i feel like i would just forget stuff if i was DM
That's why you take notes.
ah...
The players should also take notes. It's not the DM's job to remember everything that's important for their characters (like clues to a puzzle or NPCs' names).
well that makes sense
hey guys how do we even play the campaign im attacking the monster I think lmfao but i cant see its health depleting or anything:c have you guys got any advice for me
Are you using D&D Beyond? The combat tracker requires the DM to manage the health of enemies manually
You need to successfully hit the monster to bring its health (hit points) down to zero to kill it.
been trying for an hour been trying to figure it out and we still dont know what to do rip
Read the Combat section of the Basic Rules:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat
Avrae requires you to target the enemy using -t <target_name>
What kind of monster(s) are you fighting?
Combat (typically) shouldn't last an hour...
The demogorgon
and we completely new @tough oasis
we just started
Ah. Completely new and fighting Demogorgon?
What level are your PCs?
oh also i have a question! i want to do a session however i dont have people around me who can play. Also i have no experience.
Why is your DM pitting new players against a demon lord?

thank you!
one of us is the dm and has another character to play and we actually chose the demogorgon lmao
Why...?
i dont know we still trying to figure it out XD
If your character is level 1 you should have died in the first round.
LOL
Is this a DND beyond function question or a “how to play in combat” question?
Okay, may I gave you advice?
lmao
There sounds like a few things normally advised against for a first time. Fine if you're having fun, but does explain some of the issues you're having.
how to play in combat
yes please
How about you start a level appropriate adventure instead of making it up?
Also…have you all read the basic rules?
Is it just you and your friend?
yes it me and my bf
and yess !!
Okay...
Levels 1-3 are the 'tutorial' levels that are easy to learn with only a few things you need to remember, but then you need to go against level 1-3 challenges. 'Wildsheep Chase' is a free to use beginner oneshot designed for such.
also a bit of a newbie here, i also rec doing lvl appropriate combat. you'll get used to the setup faster
so we should play a default campaign and later when we level up we make our own ones
Demogorgon is usually a "boss monster" for level 16+ PCs, not for new characters/players.
oh god thanks haha!!
goblins and kobolds are your friends when just starting out combat lmao
lmao ik it sounds dumb but how can we access that campaihn
campaign-
That's what this channel is for.
btw should i wait with adding charecter details like backstory and stuff before being in a group?
There's also some 'CR' caculators online, so when you feel more used to combat, you can use those calculators to make up new fights more appropriate for your level.
Also note- 5e is designed for 4 players, so if only two of you, I'd suggest giving your self some sidekicks or making the fights easier.
Here's a (filtered) list of free low level adventures.
https://www.dmsguild.com/browse.php?filters=0_0_45418_0_0_0_0_0&pto=0&pfrom=0
Sidekicks rules:
https://media.wizards.com/2018/dnd/downloads/UA_Sidekicks.pdf
Generally that's best. You can come up with vague plot points like 'I want to have been a soldier' but best to wait until you know the game you're joining to know what war, battle or country you were in, so on.
Rarely DMs might also have restrictions on what classes or races are allowed too, to fit the theme/setting of the game, or houserules that change how making a character works, so always best to build the character after joining a game, but having ideas before hand isn't a bad idea at all.
ah oki then ik bc i was thinking about doing a bard that was hunted by his own ppl 😅
i feel like i have to be better at roleplay to being in a group ._.
you get better the more you do it (^-^)
ok i want to make griffon sidekick, what class should i put him to be ( i mean to be more related to griffon things)
You can create some general themes and be flexible when you get a DM
A sidekick can be any type of creature with a stat block in the Monster Manual or another D&D book, but the challenge rating in its stat block must be 1/2 or lower.
I'm not sure what YOU mean.
i mean that i want a pet griffon
You can't have one.
Do you want your griffin to be like..another character? Or just a companion
Hey all, I'm 100% completely new to this. Is there a way to find people to play online and rules/gameplay etc.

That's up to the DM if you have a griffin, you can't just give yourself a griffon
Thank you!
Too powerful
You need a feature to have something.
No, a griffon pet would use the griffon stat block not the side kick rules
You can pick beastmaster ranger, choose one of the companions and flavor it as a griffin
Like the 4th level Paladin spell Find Greater Steed gives a griffon
Ask your DM for final approval.
Not necessarily, depends the level and the DM
what is that ?
A spell
which dose ?
It's a spell that summons a mount.
so i can get a griffon that i can ride?
It's smarter, can speak to you telepathically
thats it? no attack nothing much
It can attack and move as normal.
A Griffon is, default, a CR2 creature, not something you just spontaneously give yourself
Paladins don't have access to Find Greater Steed until level 13 though.
It's a full griffon with special additional abilities.
What your companion or summon can do depends how u get it
when I am looking for for a DM what channel should I type all the information in
If you're starting out at level 1 then you're typically limited to the starting equipment.
Yes, there are many ways to get one. You can be a high level paladin and summon one, you can buy one or tame one if your DM allows, or you can reflavour something that isnt a griffon as a griffon (but its not actually a griffon)
You make your post on #1075498333705089084 though
one more question does it tell me how to format it
Read the help channel
Aight thanks
What does it mean by speed. 25 feet? That quick?
Thats how many feet you can move on your turn in combat. Normally combat is on a grid of squares, with each square being 5 feet. So with a 25 feet movement speed, you can move 5 squares on your turn. The standard speed for most races is 30 feet, so 25 is slightly slower
guys how can I even fight in a combat like target a monster lmao my brainnn
Have you read the rules on combat
Did you read the combat rules yet?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat
I highly recommend you check out Critical Role's "Handbook Helper" video tutorial series on Youtube.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hD-LWHhiseE&list=PL1tiwbzkOjQyr6-gqJ8r29j_rJkR49uDN&index=1
Oh OK thank you. I picked Aarakocra on d&d beyond app. Thought that would be quick lol
25 is slow, but you can fly 50 which is the fastest base speed on player races.
Aarakocra get a flying speed separate from thier walking speed. So they walk slower than they fly
The fly speed got nerfed in MOTM
Oooh did it?
Makes sense
Nobody plays that bird people in my games.
Is it not a good race?
Owlin yes, aarakocra no
Aarakocra is a fine race.
I'm just saying what my players pick.
Its very good, being able to fly is very very strong
Me and a friend have been looking to get into DND. The only problem is we only have the two of us. I have created a few first encounters as I want to try and be DM. My question is how would we run the game? I understand I could also create a character and play both DM and Character. Anyone who has done something like this could I get some ideas?
How do you make a dnd campaign
Ive played one on one games, they can be pretty fun. As a DM, you need to be careful not to kill the player because the game is not balanced around one character
That can be challenging if you are new to write a whole campaign. I recommend picking up a prepared campaign module... I think there is one called Lost Mines of Phandeliver for free on D&DBeyond
I really want to make one though
I am looking at making a more like 70%RP and 30%combat maybe even more RP than that. Its just good to know that you can run a game with fewer people. I will keep in mind to make the combat on the easier side.
I believe the Dungeon Master's Guide has some good stuff on how to write a campaign

hi, how would i make a character that is a cat? is that possible? i'm hoping there are cat people
Ok one of the features of the paladin is "Gain a reservoir of healing power (5hp), and as an action, you can heal a creature you touch by draining that power. You can also cure one poison or disease from the creature by sacrificing 5hp from the reservoir"
So every my turn i get that reservoir of 5hp and if i chose i can heal a creature, so is this means that i can stack up those reservoir like 4turns i have reservoir of 20hp and after that i can touch a creature and heal him for 20hp as an action ?
And also when i decide to not use my action on healing a creature i can still use my action for attack and also i still get the 5hp reservoir or not ?
The Tabaxi race is cat people
You have a pool of healing power that replenishes when you take a long rest.
You basically get 5hp for the whole day.
The feature is called Lay on Hands
It is a pool of points that is calculated by paladin level times 5
It can be used to heal or cure poison or disease
WHEN you use it, you can use 1 or 5 or any amount available
The amount refreshes after a long rest. It is up to you to keep track how much you’ve used
using this feature, regardless of how many points, is an ACTION
During your turn, you only have one ACTION
Using Lay On Hands takes you action and cant use anything else that is an action
anyone know of servers where the rp is text based?

Is it possible to rizz
an npc or pc?
What's "rizz"?
Hello
Charisma, usually with the opposite gender
Possibly not the best explanation
You dunno what is rizz awww poor innocent being
Well, that moment when you tryna do a pickup line for drag their heart into yours
That depends a lot on the table. You should speak with your group if they're comfortable with PCs flirting with other characters, NPCs or PCs, during the game, and establish boundaries.
So essentially- bring up that question in session 0.
Hahaha
Sigggh I love dnd, my ideas and imaginations are limitless
My excuse for my ignorance of the term is that I'm a married man.
Is there a place here where I can make my character? And if not, can anyone recommend an online format for me?

Is flying and hovering at 8th level OP or pretty normal? Trying to choose a patron for a Warlock, genie has that. (I'm new but joining a game and was told to come in with an 8th level character)
Most flying abilities are limited duration so it's typically not OP. But definitely something to clear with your DM and playing group just to make sure it fits the kind of D&D game you all want to play.
hi!
Yo
i hope everyone is having a good day!

Hey there.
hello everyone, newbie here 🙂
Is there anything in particular you need help with?
hi @lone mulch i
Heya @noble owl !
I can point you towards some text or can hop on a call for a few minutes and help you out before I turn in for the night.
i would like some helpful hints with beeing an Aasimar Bard
I’d like some help getting back into a rogue/cleric
That’s the one class I fondly remember playing only once in high school
hi @velvet thicket
Would you like text or voice assistance?

Are you starting from level 1 ?
Alright so are looking to just jump into the multi-class or starting at level 1?
Well I kind of fiddled with her sheet so she’s already both classes. Here’s the link I think it should work: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/29059418/MJqGFm
i just recently started playing dnd and its so fun!!
What type of play style are you going for?
What do you mean exactly? Her main thing will be dps but with the added benefit of casting like a quick heal spell or two, or whatever it is clerics do
From an initial glance I think you should make the character using standard array or point buy to give you more flexibility to either bring to Adventures League play or a home campaign.
Ok I’ll be honest you’re losing me
hey im new to dnd like never played before or know how to play. it looks pretty fun tho so if anybody would like to show me the ropes i would appreciate it .
Happy to clarify.
The stats you used for your strength, dexterity, constitution, intelligence, wisdom, and charisma are using the numbers Manual/Rolled during character creation on dnd beyond.
Yeah
You'll want to select your ability scores from the point buy or standard array section instead.
Main reason is so that any character build ideas are not dependent on those high stats that you manually put.
Because if you're bringing the character to a community campaign or to a home campaign, you'll either have to use standard array, point buy, or will have to roll again for new stats.
Alright what do I start with it’s between 8 and 15
You'll want to start with an atleast a 13 in Dexterity and Wisdom.
Do you want to wear heavy or light armor?
She’s primarily a rouge so light or medium armor
Do you plan to attack from from a distance or up-close?
im a new player...an Aasimar Bard
How familiar are you with the Bard class?
i'm learning, but, i'm a musician
and i was wondering
i put together some spell list
i wanted to know how good it is
A mix of ranged and close attacks. Again, rogue, they tend to fight dirty
Nowadays classes aren't really dependent on particular races because more now you can move the +2 and +1 bonuses from your race to any particular stat.
There that should even out now
As a bard, put your +2 to your charisma and your +1 either to your con or Dexterity.
At a minimum she’s got +1’s across the board
here it is
Cantrips
Blade Ward, Dancing Lights, Mage Hand,Minor Illusion. Thunderclap
1st level, Charm Person, Disguise Self, Dissonant Whispers, Healing Word, Identify
I believe it would serve you better to have dexterity and Wisdom be your highest stats because Rouges need Dexterity to be their highest stat and Clerics to be their highest stat. That way you can get +3 for your rouge-like skills, weapons, and your cleric spells.
I take it you are making this character at level 1?
yes
Ah, was thrown off by your list of cantrips because you only start with 2 cantrips at level 1.
I think Vicious Mockery and Mage Hand can be great cantrips for a bard.
my dm said we could use any and every, but with something called mana points (3) we could only most often use one lvl 1 and then need a long rest
any and every cantrip
Is your DM new to dnd as well?
no
Your DM is using some homebrew system and pretty much no one else is going to be able to help you with that
but i was wondering if they are a cool build-up for an Aasimar
"Cool build-up" in terms of what?
Ok doing that there’s a -1 intelligence, +0 to charisma and + 1’s to strength and constitution
THe thing is, you're using unique mechanics which aren't really how the game works, so no one else understand them, so it's really hard to say
In terms of survivability picking Radiant Soul at level three from the Assmiar can help you because it gives you temporary flight.
You're probably better off switchign Str and Cha
i guesss that's it for me for now.......i'm off to ravenloft,, goodnight amigos
It might be worth asking your DM to play using rules as written until you have a firm grasp of the standard rules.
Strength for a rouge class?
You've got a Str of +1 and a Cha of +0. You don't really need Str much as a rogue and you've got several Cha-based skills, so switching those will make you better at the skills you're good at
As a side note. You currently have a level 2 character instead of a level 1.
I think it would be better to hold off on multiclassing until later in the build.
Yeah, unless your DM is doing some gestalt thing, being lvl 1 in 2 classes makes you lvl 2
Because 1 + 1 = 2
I think Trickery Domain Cleric can work well for for a Rouge cleric multiclass.
How later?
1st time building a cleric here and I want to make him like just an unnecessarily swole cleric
like just HUGE and swole
Why? Strength isn’t a cleric’s primary stat
because I think it's fun
Go for goliath as race
☺️
Because funny
ooo
can elves be jacked
like unecessarily muscular
Goliaths have a trait where they're able to lift/carry as a large creature rather then a medium
or are they all lean
That'ss 100% flavor and between you and your DM
I want to say at least after you reach level 6.
thank you
time to make this himbo elf, thanks for the help guys
Once you do multi-class with the cleric the cantrips:
Guidance, Toll of the Dead, and Word of Radiance
Can be a good cantrip spells to have.
Noted
Well now I’m taking off. Might try and look for a group in the am but before that got to get the hang of these input commands
Just hope she doesn’t get killed early in the game
oh yeah question what is Debuffing?
Procing debuffs?
gotwhat?ok
A buff is something that adds to your chances of doing something, a debuff is somethign that reduces your chances of doing something
Buff make someone better somehow, debuff make someone worse somehow
Example:
The spell Bless gives the target a +1d4 to an attack or saving throw - this is a buff
The spell Bane gives the target a -1d4 to attack or saving throw rolls - this is a debuff
They also get more complicated than just changing numbers
Like slow
Or haste as the opposite
maybe a buff would be having more damage to your attacks thanks to a spell from a cleric, and a debuff would be an attack that reduces your character's speed
Those would be examples of buffs/debuffs, yes
basically Buffs give you advantage while Debuffs give you disadvantage
Not necessarily
Don’t speak in advantage and disadvantage in dnd unless you mean the actual things
If you want to take your time jumping back into D&D, I recommend playing D&D Adventures League.
You can sign up for Tier 1 , levels 1 - 4, game session that is usually from 2 - 4 hours and is generally very new player friendly experience.
But somethign that gives you advantage would be a buff and somethign that gives you disadvantage would be a debuff
oh I'm sorry
That’s okay, it can just be confusing
of course. I came from rpg video games so I built my understanding based on that
"Advantage" and "Disadvantage" are specific game terms, so if you don't mean those exact things, it's best to use other terms
To avoid confusion
well
Buffs work for the benefit of the party while debuffs work for the detriment of the party?
Yeah
Certainly the effect of the Bless spell, giving you +1d4 to a roll is "advantageous," but it's not "giving you advantage" because that's a different mechanic.
Advantage allows you to roll 2d20 for a roll where you'd normally roll 1d20 and take the higher result, while Disadvantage has you roll 2d20 and take the lower result.
Various things in the game give you advantage or disadvantage on rolls.
If you use that on your allies, Yes. However, if you cast it on your opponents in combat it helps your party.
Yeah
ok
Um how are the sessions normally ran if I may ask
So each group is different so my response will be at a fairly high level
A group of folks gets together, someone takes the Dungeon Master responsibility and provides the setup for that sessions game.
A game session typically runs 2-4 hours
Well I meant as is like roll 20 or stuff like that
The DM asks what your character is doing and if the DM decides a dice roll is needed they will ask you to roll.
You roll and add any modifiers and bonuses and report back to the DM.
The DM then decides if the roll succeeds or not.
Or for attacks - the DM asks what you're doing for that combat turn and you might say "I attack the dire wolf with my longsword".
You roll a d20 and add the modifiers and bonuses - if it's higher than the enemies' Armor Class, you hit.
Then you roll the damage dice to see how much damage you do.
Ok that would be on DnD beyond for me but I mean map wise I'm sorry for the poor wording 😅
No worries!
So some groups play with maps (physical or online/virtual) and some play without them at all (theater of the mind - DM describes the scene and setup and everyone kind of visualizes it).
Many online D&D games use Virtual Tabletops (VTTs) to display maps and tokens.
Ok 😊 thanks
You're welcome - #third-party-tools-archive is a channel specifically for discussing D&D tools like VTTs. If you have a specific question about a particular tool, you might check that out (although asking at the developers specific channels/websites may get you faster answers).

Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. My name is Adam, and I am completely new to Dungeons and Dragons. I can certainly use some help regarding the interface.
I have absolutely no idea about the rules, regulations, functionalities, principles, fundamentals, and mechanics of the game.

Thank you for the assistance.
Does anyone else feel weird that a discord server for dnd can perma ban you? like for me I got too excited roleplaying and talking 3 or more times in a chat based dnd game(and one time I had to deal with a storm which perma kicked me from a game and other reasons out of my control). I got perma banned from a server, from a very small compony which streams the dnd sessions.
Like it's been months since it happened, and idk how to feel about not being able to re join even tho bygones should be bygones.
sorry if this sounds like a rant, it's more of a long question about how long a ban should be in dnd sessions.
please?
Unfortunately I (and many others) do not have time to teach you D&D one on one. I recommend you look at the pinned messages as it has links to useful resources to help get you started. Specifically give the free basic rules a look over (you don't have to memorize it but getting an understanding of the language/vocabulary and mechanics will be useful for further learning). Then maybe watch some of the videos that are linked there - they'll break down the game mechanic and class features concepts in bite-size videos.
practically nothing
but i find the 20 sided dice thing really cool

Lucky for you its not that complex, still takes a bit of explaining, want to move this to dms?
is dnd very time taking btw?
sure
No, I don't think it's weird at all that the moderator(s) of a discord server can perma-ban you. Why would that be weird?
Yes, the average session will go somewhere from 3-5 hours. Some people play longer. Hard to do it in under 3 hrs.
@primal sonnet don't be discouraged sometimes they lose more for not having you
Check out the linked resources
For more personal interaction i would visit your local gaming store or local adventure’s league
There will usually be people who are eager to sit and talk dnd
they arent really a thing here
Arent their a book for skills.?
What do you mean?
In old days skills were something you could grant in some lvl's
Can you be more specific? I've played older editions and I don't understand what you're trying to ask.
Here there is only 18 i gues
Are you talking about increasing ability scores? Skills isn't the same as ability scores.
Skills are things like Athletics, Arcana, Acrobatics, History, Deception, and Persuasion.
Ability scores are Str, Dex, Con, Int, Wis, and Cha.
Yir i know.
Sorry il not that good of explaining😂😂
So what are you trying to ask? There are no books for skills.
There are magical books to increase ability scores, such as Tome of Understanding that increases your Wisdom score by 1.
Think i Mean proficiency
Proficiency bonus? That only increase at certain character levels.
Yir. 😀😀
OK. Lets forget that part. 😉
So what about thief?
Stealing etc..
Have you read the (free) Basic Rules yet?
Im an old 2 ed player.. So just trying to see the new stuff 😀
The rogue class starts off with four skills.
Ill do that. 😉
Then I highly recommend you do that instead of asking questions without knowing anything about 5E rules.

Hello all! I'm new here but I am not new to D&D. I've played very little as far as the tabletop, but I am very familiar with a lot of the basic ideas, especially the species and dragons. I also have many many years of roleplaying, storytelling, and world building experience.
I would love to be a DM eventually, but I don't know enough to run master a game play.
I don't really have any friends to dnd with so I'm here to try and find some.
You have no comic book stores, gaming stores, local universities or even high schools with clubs? Have you looked on yelp, google, warhorn, facebook, meetup, etc
hey guys im new to dnd and am lookin to eventually play a campaign with some peeps and learn more about the game if anyone is down to hang out an teach a few things to a greeny then hit me up i find it more fun that way
@wind plank I’m also new to dnd but I could try to dm a game if you have dnd beyond
alright brother i dont have it ive seen the website what would i need ?

Hello guys. I've always liked the idea of playing DND but i never got to actually play. even though i know the main idea, i don't know how to actually play. I'm looking for a small group of people who i can play with, as long as they are willing to accept a noobie im down to play.
Have you read the (free) Basic Rules yet?
I haven't yet but if you can link it i'll read it!

Trust me i have but there is nothing where i live
Which is the reason why i came here
Hello
Well its more on how long it should be
cause I understand interupting a session 3 times(out of excitement since I really enjoyed the game). I could not control it so I got perma banned
not temporary, a perma ban. it's been months and honestly question the entire thing. but I can't do anything now
A group can ban you for any reason they want and are under no obligation to play with you. It's a hobby and if they didn't enjoy you there's not a reason for them not to just ban you and move on.
Fair
You should probably just learn form it and move on. Lingering on it doesn't help you grow or find your happiness.
Are all subclasses chosen at level 3?
I'm trying to make a custom subclass in dndbeyond, but it seems like they all can't be selected until you pick a base class and level to 3
Doesn't seem to be possible to just add a class
No, some are at 1st level depending on the class, such as cleric, sorcerer, and warlock.
Warlock, sorcerer, and cleric are lev 1.
Wizard and druid are level 2.
Everyone else is level 3.
You can't make a custom class on dnd beyond. And if the class you're making a subclass for gets there subclass at level 3, you can't change that.
Read the (free) Basic Rules.

ok
So how are warlock's currently? I wanna bring back an old friend and character of mine if I can
Warlocks are good and the most popular multiclass.
Any updates I need to know about for warlock's?
Compared to what?
You can see the full details here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/warlock
rules or anything new going on
Soooo… compared to the 2014 Player’s Handbook?
Or the 4E warlock?
current 5e handbook, as in any new rules dm's have at their desposal
or any nerf's or buffs
also is undead warlock any better? or is it bottom/mid tier trash?
Undead is good, Undying sucks.
I meant undying my b
It still sucks. There haven't been like any major patches or anything. It's still all the same.
well that's good, I heard of the new rule for warlock's. I am not sure if I can Gunsling eldrich blasts
Idk what that means.
Oh now I remember, they now are half casters
Are you referring to One D&D UA playtest?
No the new rule dnd beyond made, were warlock's are now half casters. if I remember correctly
No...
yea I think so
not sure tbh, also ok
One D&D UA has the updated warlock class
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/one-dnd/ph-playtest-5
Yeah, One dnd isn't 5e.
#1026901431132885064 if you want to talk about the updated warlock class
Yup.
I know that, I just had poor memory on which version of warlock
that and I passed out asleep earlier so memory fuzzy
There's one warlock but many subclasses.
Warlocks aren't half casters.
I know I was talking about a new rule for warlocks
I saw a few well known dndtubers talk about
And we're telling you there aren't any new rules for warlocks outside of the One D&D UA.
Yeah, that half-caster stuff is playtest material.
I’d bet money there will also be a playtest version using Pact Magic.
Anyway, the most significant change to Warlocks (or any base class) would be the Optional Class Features from Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything.
For warlocks, it added a new pact boon and some new invocations.
well that's neat
What should I do to get into DnD
I’m new here too, but I started by making a character. DnD Beyond has a great setup for characters that’s easy to understand!
does a spell like Earth Tremor uses spell attack modifier? Here's the description: You cause a tremor in the ground in a 10-foot radius. Each creature other than you in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 1d6 bludgeoning damage and is knocked prone. If the ground in that area is loose earth or stone, it becomes difficult terrain until cleared.
Can you use a person as a improvised weapon?
If you have enough strength
yipee
That’s probably more a #dnd-rules question I think
But it’s an interesting and disturbing idea
Yet it seems funny and a way to spice things up in a game
Thought it would be funny to smite someone using their own body as a improvised weapon
