ooh
Ty for the help
Spell Save DC = 8 + Prof Bonus + Spellcasting Ability Mod
Okay thank you
So, a lvl 1 wizard with an Int of 16 would have a spell save DC of 8 + 2 + 3 = 13
Understood
and what if it's marked "Ranged" in the Attack/Save section ?
which spell are you looking at?
so guessing similar to a filrebolt?
then it would fall under an attack spell rather than a save one, so it would be your spellcasting ability modifier + proficiency, so in DMGrognerd example of the wizard with an int of 16 it would be +5 to your attack (2 prof + 3 int mod)
so it would be the spell save DC ?
no, it would be an attack, same as it would be using a crossbow, save DC is more oriented towards area of effect attacks, or conditions. For example FireBALL which creates an explotion in an area, and anything inside that area would have to save their dex DC or be blown to smithereens
I highly recommend not homebrewing spells and other mechanics if you are just beginning
I only use homebrew spells that have the same mechanics as SRD's ones
Hey so im relatively new for dnd (been playing as a pc for a couple months and DMd a game for one day and failed miserably) and was wondering if anybody could give me advice on how to properly DM a game where I want to make the world dangerous. If anyone has ever seen Dimension 20’s A crown of candy I’d want it to be similar
Probably best to ask in #dm-discussion
I was about to do that thanks 🙏
Hello so I'm making a paladin and I was going to give them a pike but then I noticed it's two handed does that mean I can't use my shield with it?
Correct!
OK is there something else I could use that's similar but I would still have my shield?
Alrighty thank you for the help
also you could go for a warhammer, mace, sword, but you will be loosing a little on the range department compared with a spear
I will have to think about it some more but thank you
Hey, I’m quite new to dnd and was wondering if anyone wanted an extra PC in their game??? If so dm me : )
Try using #750812887697588356
Will do thank you!
Is the type of armor you have your Ac? If not how do I find what is?
Each armor item will list the AC it gives you
For example Leather Armor gives you an AC of 11 + your dexterity modifier
https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment/leather
OK so chainmail would give me 16
New coming to playing on roll20 . Opinions on what character to make first?
Between a Ranger and Rogue. Maybe even Barbarian. For the magic element thinking maybe Scocerer
"Ranged" means you're making a Ranged Spell Attack, in which case you're adding your Spell Attack Modifier to the attack roll (d20 roll to see if you hit, DC is target's AC).
Do you like lots of magic, little bit of utility magic that helps your character, or none and get that fancy Gandalf stuff outta here?
A secondary follow-up would be:
Do you want to be sneaky, loud and angry, or supportive with some pizzazz?
At this point I’m looking to hang back and absorb things a bit. Someone who maybe has some hidden talent but prefers to keep his cards close to the chest. Definitely not someone to make a big entrance but rather is a little bit more observant but can hurt you if provoked and necessary
Ranged rogue and ranger could fit that. If you want magic with the rogue go arcane trickster. Otherwise the others give you some utility options I would just say to read and see what you like. Ranger is solid, and if you have access to it, gloomstalker might be fun for you, or Shadow Sorcerer could give you that hang-back and observe feel. You can flavor anything for sure, but I'd start there .
Appreciate the insight! Will definitely look in that. 🙏
Hehe I is a newcomer and would like to start but I need help

Here’s some resources!
Read the (free) Basic Rules and I highly recommend Critical Role's "Handbooker Helper" tutorial videos on Youtube.
I need help setting up a campaign and I've never DMd or technically played before (I had one session of an SW5e one-shot so I don't think that counts) (However, I've already watched videos and researched a bit about DnD so I got the basics down kinda.)
(Homebrew SW5e, I especially need help with character sheets and learning how to set up the campaign.)
If anyone would be generous enough to provide me their support that'd be great! DMs are open!
I'm Dming for my first time this Sunday any tips?
Just got done wharching a video and sounds fun. But I want to play now and I doubt therea going to be many people willing to let me "in" on a game right now so what do I do.
Hey, can anyone give me a good dnd online game? I’m tryna start
Same
I’m online looking for online games but all of them cost money and I’m broke and I can’t find a free one
How you know when a spell need to get roll dice to hit? Like hunters mark need to roll dice to hit?
It will say in the spell description.
The Fire Bolt spell requires a Spell Attack roll, for example.
Hunter's Mark isn't attack, it's a buff.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/hunters-mark
You choose a creature you can see within range and mystically mark it as your quarry. Until the spell ends, you deal an extra 1d6 damage to the target whenever you hit it with a weapon attack, and you have advantage on any Wisdom (Perception) or Wisdom (Survival) check you make to find it. If the target drops to 0 hit points before this spell ends, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to mark a new creature.
How does the component pouch work? I just dont understand why you would have it in place of an arcane focus. Is it mostly just a character design thing?
So I had a quick question I'm making a plaiden with chainmail armor which give 16 Ac and have a shield with gives +2 to Ac and I have a 14 in dex +2 to Ac. I'm pretty sure that broken having 20 Ac. How can I fix this should I just change the number in my dex or is their something I'm doing wrong?
what is all this VTT i see for people wanting games? what is that system?
Oh alright
Some classes start off with either a familiar or beast companion.
But check with your DM.
I've been playing D&D for ~7 months and some friends have asked me to run something with them. Nobody else has any TTRPG experience whatsoever. Is there a good introductory One-Shot I can prep and run for 3-5 brand new players?
Will work with them ahead of time to create characters, or maybe just bring a stack of pre-made toons. Hoping to do a single evening if possible, 3-4hrs
lost mines of phandelver is a free module on D&D beyond that runs level 1-4
Oh wicked, I've heard good things about Phandelver

Hello
I don't know how to anything
There are some great links in the pinned messages to get you started!
Do you have any specific questions? Folks here can definitely chime in!
1 are groups meant to meet irl or on dc
2 how do I find a group to play with on discord
Do I have to use Dyno Bot and the external website to make a 'looking for' post? Or is there a way to do it from the server itself?
Thank you so much ❤️
I do have a question, more of a statement ish,, I’m super new to DND and I’m just wanting to find a group that’s more role play than combat. How would I do this?
Hi sorry to bother people but how do I post in the looking for dm I apparently dont have permission
Grab the right roles, check the pinned message, make sure to allow embeds
thank you 🙂
read the class features of your class. The hit point calculation is one of the first things.
For the fighter it says this for example:
Hit Points
Hit Dice: 1d10 per fighter level
Hit Points at 1st Level: 10 + your Constitution modifier
Hit Points at Higher Levels: 1d10 (or 6) + your Constitution modifier per fighter level after 1st
Check the table for druid
You will learn more effectively if you read the class features for yourself
Bro there's math involved
That will be in the next feature after hit points. You can find the list of skills and what they do in chapter 7 of the players handbook: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/phb/using-ability-scores
#looking-for-players is a good place to start
I'm designing my character on the game and allocating stat points to strenth, constitution, wisdom and dexterity
I’m just starting to read them
is it by Critical role?
It has a racial bonus feat that lets you choose between 4 breaths. Black, blue, red and white but idk if they give specific things like black inflicting poison with acid, blue causing stun for electricity red causing burn for fire and white causing freezing to stop enemies as ice
I just joined it

@tight ingot wizards of the coast to supposed to make the core rule books into spanich
I misread that as "spinach" and couldn't for the life of me figure out what you were trying to say. 😆
Hey i just started doing dnd and one of my friends plays but somehow the lore of his character changes the character sheet
could someone clear this up for me i am so confused
What do you mean ?
The lore of the character somehow makes it so he has like plus 3 to initiative and plus 2 to strength
and i don't understand how that works
It doesn't, per the rules
A player doesn't get to make up rules without the DMs permission
ok
because we were just doing some vs with my new character and the stats were changed
just kinda confused me
Are you the DM?
no i just started doing dnd
You might want to sit down with your DM and the other players and check everyone has made their characters per the agreed upon rules
im not apart of any groups yet thats how new i am
Generally speaking character creation happens after you join a game
You probably want to read the basic rules first
I have but thank you
How do i find a group because the finding players and finding dm conversations are locked for me for some reason\

Thx man
General consensus rules on this are twofold
- monster stat blocks are generally off the table for players, just default.
- only the specified allowed options are, well, allowed. To start, it’s better to assume you need permission for something versus everything is free game. If only to avoid heartbreak when you’re set on something and get told no
Eh
Just explaining the ideas behind Dunl telling you homebrew requires permission first
ok thank you, but i checked many spells and i never found a "you need to roll to hit"
someones is telling me that if it say is a range attack you need to roll for exemple, but on my players handbook there's never written roll to attack under spells. Every spell of paladin maybe don't need to roll?
A spell that needs a roll to hit will say you need to make a spell attack, either a "melee spell attack" or a "ranged spell attack"
Fire Bolt, for example:
Make a ranged spell attack against the target.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/fire-bolt
If the spell has you make an attack roll that is a spell attack. The description of spell attacks, etc is elsewhere in the book. They establish the core before these specifics. 🙂
What is attunement ?
I think it is where you become linked to a item and I think you have a limited number of items you can attune to
ah ok that "attack" means you have to roll.. well thanks for the clarification
You can find the rules for attunement here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/magic-items#Attunement
Some magic items require your character to form a bond with them. This is done over a Short Rest. By default, a character can only be attuned to three magic items at once.

Anyone know if there’s a general rule for jumping? I’m curious if as a variant human dhampir rouge gloomstalker if I could jump between trees if they’re 5-10ft between
The jumping rules are covered here https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/adventuring#Jumping
Since I'm proficient in heavy armour(paladin) do I get none of the debuffs my chainmail gives me?
You still have disadvantage in stealth. Just the nature of the armor.
And you still need to have a strength of 13 or more to wield it
Being proficient just means wearing it doesn't cause your attacks to have disadvantage.
I have a strength of 13 so that's fine, but what does a disadvantage in stealth mean? Does it reduce my stealth skill by 2 or something?
Whenever you make a stealth related check you have disadvantage I think
Disadvantage means you roll the dice twice and use the lower number
Correct - when making stealth checks you roll twice and take the lowest roll.
One more thing, since paladins are proficient in wisdom and charisma do all wisdom and charisma skills go up by my proficiency (e.g animal handling goes from - 1 to 1) or is it just two of the skills they're proficient in that increase(Athletics, Insight, Intimidation, Medicine, Persuasion, and Religion). I assume the latter because that many skills increasing seems a bit op
Skills and saves of that type now add the proficiency bonus on top of the modifier bonus (if any).
So my skills only increase by my proficiency in them and don't increase by my saving rolls proficiency?
No - wisdom and charisma saving throws also add your proficiency bonus
Your saving rolls proficiency don’t add to your skills
Just the ability modifier and the skill proficiency itself
What Misty noted
Okay , I think all my confusions regarding my character sheet have been fulfilled, thank you a lot for the help, receiving personal advice regarding my character sheet has been really useful
i had my first physical session of dnd today and im in love lol. I got the starter kit (stormwreck isle one) and cant stop thinking about what i will do next, any suggestions for campaigns once we finish this one?
I'm interested in spelljammer, i have the academy prequel to do aswell but kinda want to do a short campaign for a bit more experience beforehand
Waterdeep: Dragon Heist goes from levels 1 to 5, I enjoyed it quite a bit
good idea
Okay, I just joined and am kinda lost. What do I do???
I have ~2000 pages to print tommorow, why print them all at seperate times when you can do it at once?
if a weapon needs attunement by several classes, how do I use it ?
like I have this axe
that has several abilities
but each ability needs a class to be attuned by
so I won't be able to use every abilities if I don't play multiclasses ?
Never seen something like that, but yeah it sounds like a weapon that's designed to do different things depending on the type of character wielding it. Interesting concept.
Hello, can someone pls explain me, how time works in D&D?
What level party is best to run for complete newbies? (And for first-time DM too lol)
level 1 i guess ?
When in doubt, start at Level 1. Players have fewer spells and abilities to keep track of and can spend more of their focus on learning the gameplay mechanics. Plus, the monsters at low levels also tend to be pretty basic with their abilities, making things simpler for the DM.
I recommend level 1 for every group unless you have a specific story you're telling in a one-shot/short campaign. It lets your character dynamics evolve over the first few sessions before your character powers kick in. It also helps reduce the chance you get people who only want to play with power and not with the party.
Since divine sense is just 1+charisma modifier and my modifier is 0, can I only use it once per day permanently? (I assume sleeping counts as a long rest) is there a way to increase my charisma modifier?
i've played WoW since 2004. i've never played DnD. i just created my first character: half-elf cleric life domain since i like to heal in WoW. i'm not sure if i did everything correct on my character creation. let me know if i did it wrong. https://ddb.ac/characters/90037408/PKea74
As you level up, you can hit certain levels that increase your attributes or skills (attribute Skill Increase). You can use these times to bump up specific attributes and thus improve your skills. Additionally at certain levels your proficiency bonus increases. So through both of these you can increase the usage amount of certain features.
Your ability score modifier is based on the ability score itself. Your modifier increases by 1 for every 2 points the actual score increases(10-11 = +0, 12-13 = +1, etc)
So when do my actual ability scores increase?
When you level up at certain levels you can increase attribute scores. Also at certain levels, your proficiency bonus goes up.
Okay ty
Hello, I just joined this server and I'm also new to the whole DND experience. I joined a DND club at my school recently (I'm in high school, that's all I'm saying.) And I just want to get a better understanding on how the game works and how the different ways you can play the game.
I'm really interested in this kind of stuff lol
Okay, thank you
Also you may want to adjust your nickname here on the server as they are very much against hard to read names with symbols and numbers all over the place. Just a heads-up.
Advantage and disadvantage affect d20 rolls. In both cases you roll two dice; advantage you take the best one and disadvantage you take the worst.
I do have a name in mind so I will do that!

You’ll need some people to play with
Do you want to be a play or dm?
I’d like to be a player

Well I recommend reading the free rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
A players handbook should be all you need
As long as you have a digital character sheet
Maybe try your hand at making a character to see how the rules interface with the character sheet.
The free rules have everything you need to know
Players handbook has extra races and classes you can play
I want to make a hobgoblin but dnd Beyond won’t let me without paying 50 dollars
Then maybe watch people playing D&D to see how the people use the rules in the game (understanding that many D&D streams and videos use modified rules and some are oriented towards entertainment first).
You can buy individual races for as low as 1.99
Then when you feel ready, find a group to play with.
Where do I find a group?

I did that and it won't let me make a post when I get inside it
Alright in going to go do sone bookwork thank you!
Thank you
also is there any dms willing to help me build my character
text preferably
i do not have perms for that chat.
i did still no perms after ive closed and reopened the tab.
i made it.
so uh what do i do
whats the best race i heard wizard is weak as hell
oh ok
i am they arent helping much
create a character to just play
So I need an honest opinion from experienced people about my weapon idea. I have a small ring of disenchantment at the end of my flintlock, I then ask a magic users to shrink canon balls to the size, shape, and weight of a bullet, and then I have a portable cannon as a flintlock...
What do y'all think
Ok
I see no homebrew discussion. Am I blind or just too tired?
Thank you!
Can I copy and paste in this server?
Ok
anyone know where i should even begin with dnd? i want to get into it but dont have anyone to play with
You can learn the rules, at least generally, and get the hang of creating a character. Then you can look for a game.

Hello! I'm not a new player but rather a returning Dungeon Master. Over 6 whole years after my last time being a dungeon master, (It's a long story but TL:DR is that it was actually a very short story that was played) I can guarantee that there is lots to improve about my improvisation, preparedness, and general game management. So, for any experience DMs, what was your first time being a Dungeon Master like, what did you learn from it, and what have you learned to be most important during a game to keep your players invested? (Sorry if it is a big request. I am quite nervous and I, ironically, want to leave as little as I can to chance.)
What's the best way to prevent fall dmg as a Druid?
They don't get feather fall so is there any alternative that they could use?
Hello! I'm extremely new to DnD, as in my first attempt at character creation was 20 minutes ago roughly, I discovered DnD from my step-brother who said to give it a shot but couldn't teach me so I'm trying to get into it, I've watched the end of a campaign but never actually been in one
Working On it, I made my character and joined the server, I'm still going thru everything
Not sure if my characters right but if it's not it's part of the learning process
He said he couldn't teach me because it's not the teachable thing, "I'd love to teach you but I can't, it's more of a get into it yourself" type thing so I'm trying to get into it myself, do you Have anything else to help?(thanks for the recommendation by the way!)
Does anyone know where I can read the dm guide?
Im planning on buying it but I need to start reading it now
You have to buy it to read it
If you want to access it immediately, you can buy it through D&D Beyond and get access right away
I really cant buy anything rn, well do you know any other dnd guide that is out for free

Does having an ac higher than the opponents roll (fighting an enemy, they roll a 17, I have an ac of 18), mean that the attack completely misses, or is it more like the damage just gets reduced?
Yes attack misses you have to equal or roll higher than the AC to hit
OK ty
https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQMqiULo_05OiKZgfz7hi_Gvw9hftY0LD playlist of some basics
Which weapon fits better to a level 1 sorcerer with base stats ?
can a bard use spells from a wizard spellbook he finds?
No, Bards don't learn spells that way
so what can he do with it?
Nothing really, only Wizards have spellbooks, and only they can transcribe spells from another Wizard's spellbook into their own.
The rules for how any class learns spells are in that class' description in the Basic Rules & Players Handbook
he could sell it to another wizard
Hello
That's a question for #dnd-rules
hello, may I ask where I can find a proficiency bonus for bard?
It's in the column on the bard table marked proficiency bonus
But it's the same for all classes as it's determined by character level rather than class level
ok thanks
Are you able to equip a shield before a fight starts? So I don't have to equip a shield as my first action
You can always be wielding it. But check with your DM
Seeing as this channel is for the basics to help newcomers, it's best that we stick to giving answers per the rules
As the rules are written, equipping or removing a shield takes 1 action
Hey, I've never played, but is it possible to store like 500 cast fireballs in a bag somehow to make a bag nuke?
Yes, and I explained why that might be contrary to the intent of the channel
Rules as written, no.
We don't want to confuse newcomers
@spark moss please don't solicit personal information such as location
What’s a good way to find people in my area?
Check your local gaming and book stores.
Everytime you level up do you add your constitution modifier again (e.g paladin level 1 has 11 hp, at level 2 rolls d10 gets 8,so add your cont modifier to get 9, giving them 20 hp at level 2?)
You add your constitution modifier once per level up
If you have a 13 con (giving a +1 modifier) you will roll 1d10 and add 1 to the result
OK ty
Using your example, you are level 2 and should have (10+1) at first level and (8+1) at second level
Sorry I type slow
can you use a double handed weapon and a shield at the same time?
Shields aren't just strapped to your arm, there's a handle you have to hold (some shields don't even have straps, such as a viking round shield or most bucklers)
hi im new to dnd sooooo could i say my oc (original characters) lore and stuff abt him in lore discussion?

okthx
Can the spells a paladin can prepare each day be interchanged (e.g one day I prepare 3 1st level spells 1 2nd level, the next 2 1st level spells and 2 2nd level spells)?
yes
I need help creating a level 10 character im a newbie
Well the first thing is to have a bit of understanding of the rules: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Then I'd suggest maybe checking in with #1045165827068002374 as they can provide some ideas and opinions on whatever character build you decide to make.
i just finished my first session in general and as a dm
didnt really know how to roleplay or ask for rolls, so we mostly did combat
but everyone seemed to have fun
like im not sure whether to ask the players "roll for perception" or just dont, and just surprise them
or let them not see stuff
Note down their passive perceptions if it’s something that obvious then they will see it with a high enough passive, but say they are going through a Forrest you can ask for perception checks if you want them to find something
If it's critical to the story, don't lock it behind rolls - but if it's something that can add to the story and help highlight strengths of particular characters, ask for appropriate rolls.
It can help keep players involved and highlight that not all problems need combat solutions
like for looking around for loot, should i not say anything and wait for them to roll?
If they have enough time and space, no need to lock things behind a roll.
But if time is important (guards or other monsters are coming) then requiring a roll can help provide that sense of tension and limitation.
but should i ask for the roll, or should they initiate it?
I'd get in the habit of asking for a group roll (everyone rolls and you take the average). This can also help the players start to ask, "Hey I'd like to look around..."
It's like training your players about what they can do with their characters
i see
how do i summit for looking for players
Get the right role in #880965682462875679 and read the latest pinned message in the channel you'd like to use.
So for #looking-for-players you need the DM role and you need to read the pinned message and use the Dyono bot to post your game/posting.
DnDBeyond uses the official 5e rules in it's character builder tool: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
Avrae is a Discord bot that can help with running D&D games with it's dice roller, it's character sheet importer (connects to your DnDBeyond character sheet), and can run intiaitive etc.
DnDBeyond and Avrae are both owned by Wizards of the Coast/D&D
i don't know to do that at all
i set my roll
but still can't post/summit
Did you read the pinned post in #looking-for-players ?
Actually pardon me it looks like it doesn't have the message
Let me see if I can find it for you
i have a disablilty it is difficult for me

hello, may I ask can i use dexterity insted of strengh in attack bonus even when I am not a rouge?
For finesse weapons, yes.
Finesse. When making an attack with a finesse weapon, you use your choice of your Strength or Dexterity modifier for the attack and damage rolls. You must use the same modifier for both rolls.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#WeaponProperties
The Rogue class doesn’t provide that ability. It’s all based on the weapon.
(Rogues need a finesse or ranged weapon to sneak attack, though, which may be where the confusion is coming from.)
thanks
Any way to quickly increase amount of spells I can prepare a day? I'm a level 2 paladin but since my charisma modifier is 0 I can only use 1 spell a day. I know I can use every cantrip as many times as I want a day but only having 1 level 1 spell available a day is really low. I know I can increase my charisma by 2 every 4 levels, and every 2 levels I can learn one more spell(paladin level divided by 2+ charisma modifier) but it will be a while before my dm will level us up to level 3 or 4. Is leveling up the only way to increase the spells I can prepare per day?
Paladins don't have cantrips.
The only way to have more prepared spells is have your Charisma modifier be higher.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/classes#PreparingandCastingSpells3
You prepare the list of paladin spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the paladin spell list. When you do so, choose a number of paladin spells equal to your Charisma modifier + half your paladin level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots.
Is there a reason your Charisma score is that low?
We used the roll 4d6's dump the lowest number technique to get our stats so I got a charisma of 11
It shouldn't be your dump stat. It's the one ability score you should concentrate on.
I couldn't control the dice I got, so all my stats are pretty meh(highest mod was +1)
Your DM should have let your reroll if your ability scores are average (10-11) or use Point Buy.
hey im trying to make a certain kind of build but def want it to be balanced could anyone help me?
Hi there! We have a channel for character builds: #1045165827068002374 - you'll want the not-optimization thread one for general build questions. You'll need to at least pick up the player role from #880965682462875679 to view the channel I believe.

yes...
haha its not a question, but its the prompt for the bot to get the "new to dnd" links
I’ve been creating a character
What kind?
It’s a knight
But idk if it’s what I want
Because I raise his Dex and strength near by each other. But I couldn’t really understood the tools part
And couldn’t find out how to use the defense system
Im brand new to this
By “tools part”, did you mean tool proficiencies?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/equipment#Tools
Yes
And I haven’t really thought on what knight I should add to an organization
Thanks
Tuna what if I’m using an app to create my character?
I have the basic rules on it
This may be awhile for me to get used to. So imma brb
Proficiency with a tool lets you add your proficiency bonus to a check you make with that tool.
In short, you’re more likely to be successful when using the tools you’ve learned.
What did you mean by “defense system”, though?
I have absolutely zero idea about anything in this game, I’ve just always been interested
Same
I want to get into the game
Can you just follow dark souls logic?
I try too
“Defense system” isn’t a rules term in the current edition of D&D, at least, so I’m still not quite sure what you’re referring to. 😅
What app are you using for your character sheet?
DND beyond app
If you check the pinned messages, there’s a bunch of helpful links to get you started.
But if you’ve got any specific questions, feel free to ask!
Ahhh! No, I think I understand now.
okeh
That section normally displays your resistances, immunities, and vulnerabilities (if any).
It’s fairly common not to have any of those.
So if it’s blank, that’s fine.
Dang a fighter has no defense. Im guessing his a offensive
Oh okay
I tried doing strength build for my knight
Guess it went for charisma and Dex
😭
My strength is now at -5?
What could that mean?
Hi I have a character on d&d beyond. How do I import it to discord and use it in a campaign?
depends on the discord server, as some will use some service or the other
They’d have an armor class, at least.
Knights are like armor classes so it might make sense to me
Thanks
Using Avrae? Head over to #ddb-avrae-commands and run through !tutorial beyond. It’ll walk you through the necessary steps.
Ok so I just need to find a dm who is campaigning while using the service?
So, Imma go hunt for my first campaign hope it doesn’t wild like those YouTube video horror stories about DND
finding a DM is a good start, as for example they might ask you to share the dnd beyond character, or maybe export it into Avrae or some VTT like roll20
Armor class is different from a character class. Every creature and even objects have an armor class.
armor class (aka AC). is basically how defensive your character is to incoming attacks.
out of curiosity. how does everyone feel about monoclass parties
(assuming the DM customizes the challenges and stuff they come across to fit)
Whats Avrae?
a discord bot for dnd
Oh okay. Thank you
So once you do a campaign with your character, and the campaign ends, what do you do with that character? Do you use them again in another campaign if it’s not with the same group as the last campaign?
You can retire it. Or see if the DM and group of the next campaign is cool with you reusing the character (may need to adjust to the proper level).
Although you may have more fun creating a new character for a new campaign.
Try something new/different.

I know some campaigns like that mine one are made for low levels. 1-5, I believe, is that one made to move on to another campaign for level 5-10?
hi is there a way for individual players to post that they are looking for a game?
Now I play the waiting game to look for a proper dm
What is the difference between #looking-for-players and #750812887697588356?
if your a dm (dungeon master) you have a campaign and are looking for players to play in it. If you are a player you might be looking for a dm to host a game for you to play in
ive looked up so many videos, if anybody has a lot of time on their hands would they mind giving me a quick rundown of the player level system and how it affects gameplay?
Now I understand, thanks for explaination

this has been stuck on my mind, so if an enemy is going to attack but i want to dodge it then i roll dex saving throw, if i fail the dex save throw does the enemy hit without needing to roll the dice or do they also roll when i roll to dodge at the same time? and if they do roll at the same time what would happen if both succeeded or failed? (sorry if this is a complicated question)
No, that's not correct
You cannot dodge in response to an attack. You can take the Dodge Action on your turn, which means attacks made against you until the start of your next turn have disadvantage
what about reactions, aren't you able to use a reaction to dodge?
so if i was about to get attacked there's no way for me to dodge it i just have to hope the enemy fails, and when its my turn i can use it to take action in dodging so i can try to avoid the next attack?
Yep
This section of the basic rules covers all the general actions in combat
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#ActionsinCombat
Oh wow that's actually pretty cool, i've been misinterpreting the dodge the whole time, but then what about reactions? are those not similar to a bonus action?
Reactions are a class of action that you can take at any time provided their trigger is met
do you have an example of someone using the reaction action, or is that example also in the link?
Opportunity attacks are an example of a reaction
ok so trying to piece this one by one, lets say im in combat with a skeleton i go first, among all my actions i choose to dodge, so then skeleton uses its turn to attack, but then i get to roll with advantage to attempt dodging it, but enemy rolls with disadvantage, but what if enemy luckily got a 15 as a hit and i got a 18 as a successful dodge, would the enemy attack not matter? and if they rolled a 12 as a failed hit and i rolled a 9 then what, we both failed but what's the consequence?
No, the skeleton would attack with disadvantage because you took the dodge action, you don't get to do anything
oh, so we dont both roll, i do dodge action, end of my turn skeleton attacks and i don't roll but they do with disadvantage which determines if it still hits or not?
Yep
And so dodging is for in middle of combat and the only time i can make a dexterity saving throw is only when there's a spell that requires it or if a weapon where to be thrown at me? Im sorry for all these questions i have on dex saving throws but im glad and thankful that im understanding it bit by bit.
You make a saving throw when the game requires you to
Be it from a spell, or a dragons breath weapon, or to dodge falling debris
so when enemy just throws a punch right in front of me i can do a dex save throw
not yet i haven't, just asking some questions that im unsure of
yeah will do, thank you so for your time and help, last question, does the dnd starter set rulebook have this info too?
They contain the information you need to play the game, yeah
wow, i might get that for on the go, thank you very much oh wise Davyd for your knowledge and wisdom, i shall put it to good use.
Love new players
does a stealth roll mean you just become invisible to the enemy?
No, a successful stealth check means you have concealed yourself in some way
hmm, what happens if you do it during combat?
That would be the hide action, where a creature becomes hidden from others in combat and gains the benefits of unseen attacker if they attack from being hidden
ah, because a rogue kept hiding, attacking and hiding again
and idk what do to against it, or is it supposed to be that way or not
There's the search action, where a creature can make a perception check and if it beats the Stealth roll they rolled, they locate the creature
ah
that would be hard, since he has +7
but i'll use that i guess, does that count as an action, so can you attack on the same turn?
hello
Yes, the search action is an action
is hiding also an action, so you cant attack if you want to hide?
It is
yes, but do keep in mind that a Rogue of level 2 or higher has the feature "Cunning Action" which allows them to take the Hide action as a Bonus Action.
yea, i forgot that so i asked
D&D 5th edition has no concept of 'off hand'. Unarmed strikes, monk or not, aren't weapons so you can't use two weapon fighting
Also unarmed strikes don't just have to use fists
What does it mean by "advantage on the attack roll" for sneak attack?
Doesn’t that mean you roll and take the higher roll?
you roll 2 d20's and take the higher roll
"Once per turn, you can deal an extra 1d6 damage to one creature you hit with an attack if you have advantage on the attack roll"
Ye, take the higher roll fam. So if you roll a 9 and a 16, you would take the 16.
Certain ability’s grant you advantage on attack rolls against a creature, guiding bolt, attacking from stealth, flanking if your using them rules
If successful in your attack, roll a 1d6 and add that total to your damage roll basically, right?
It means if you have advantage (if you're rolling 2 d20s and picking the highest) you can add the extra sneak attack damage to the attack if it hits
thats a rogue's whole thing. their whole character type is basically sneaky, so my best bet would just be let them be sneaky, other then that they don't really get to do much else, so why not let them be good at the thing their built to be good at. Maybe every now and then throw in a monster with really high passive perception that beats the rogue's stealth roll, or maybe one with blind/truesight, Something that will catch the rogue off guard and make them think outside of the box with their abilities. Most the time tho, if the rogue can stealth, they will stealth, so just roll with it, literally. It's the same as the fighter attacking or the wizard casting
i see, also you can double attack with two single hand weapons right?
you can use two weapon fighting with ***light *** weapons
which allows you to attack with one light weapon as an action and then attack with another light weapon you are holding with your bonus action
Ive been watching people paint D&D miniatures and play D&D so i want to try playing it,how do you play it,where, etc.
I dont know anything about it,where do i start ?
I would love to learn it and play it 😄
And how similar is Warhammer to dungeons and dragons?
I Don't think this is the right channel per se, But I Don't see any other channel close to the matter....Could I Ask a question about avrae?
I dont know anything about it,where do i start ?
best place to start is reading the basic rules, they're pinned in this channel
I would love to learn it and play it 😄
Check out our game finding channels (linked below). Lots of people run newcomer friendly games
And how similar is Warhammer to dungeons and dragons?
Very little similarity. There are rules and some of those rules cover combat where you have rolls to hit and damage rolls etc. But beyond that, it's an entirely different game
You want #ddb-avrae-help which is in the D&D Beyond category; you need the DDB role from #880965682462875679 to access it
Ah, Thank you!
Thank you very much 😄
hey yaal i just wanted to ask and make sure i understood correctly so as a lv1 warlock i have 1 lv1 spellslot that i can use and that means i can use 1 lv1 spell per long rest right?

Hey all, I was recently able to get I to a game with some friends of mine. The only problem is I’ve only played a full game once and need some help setting up. I have a little less than a month to be ready! It’s a WW2 Castle Frankenstein story. I don’t have much more info than that atm. I’m playing the role of Communications(Bard) as a Code talker. What would be the best way to set myself and our group up for success with my role? Any positive advice is welcome!
Hey I'm completely new to dnd only seen bits and pieces on yt and was recommendeded to come here by another server, looking forward to get to know people on here and hopefully join some games
That's great hope you have a fun
Any tips for a new player? I wanted to play in person ganes but there's none near me so I'm looking for online games
Check the pinned message here - lots of useful links to help get you started with D&D and DnDBeyond.

Look on roll20, that's a good place to find a game to join, or start your own
Those are the channels to find people - make sure to read the channel descriptions and if posting, follow the pinned message in the channel.
Is roll 20 on here or is it somewhere else?
It's a website
Roll20 is a different website that provides a virtual tabletop for folks to play games with
^^
Thanks yall are great
Also check you local comic book and gamestores - they often may have game listings or even drop-in games that you could join.
Do I need a good PC to play dnd online?
Not particularly. A solid internet connection and a clear microphone are really what you need. Most PCs can handle what’s needed for a virtual tabletop.
Amazing 🙂 my PC bit the bullet a few months ago so I'm using a less then ideal laptop until I've got the money spare for a new one so that's a big relief
Oh! Before the mods get to it I recommend changing your username. They don’t take kindly to poor language, even if it has its spelling changed!
Did you mean “to play D&D over the internet”, or “to play D&D Online”?
Thanks for the save
What's the difference?
Dungeons & Dragons Online is a video game.
https://www.ddo.com/home
As opposed to regular Dungeons & Dragons, the tabletop roleplaying game (which can be played online).
Ah okay dnd over the Internet then
Suffice to say, a PC would have very different requirements depending on the answer. 😅
I'm guessing the video game is the one that's more intense on hardware 😂
Oh god don't say that.....
It is an older game.
So if you’re playing regular D&D with something like Talespire, maybe.
But you can also play regular D&D with just text, like on Discord.
Some folks use Virtual Table Tops (VTT) or other tools which may require mid-to-good tier PCs to handle well.
But yeah, text-only is also an option
Depends on the group you play with
I'll try virtual but text only might be best bet for not tbh 😂
Hello:)

Well. I’m new here. But I’ve been playing dnd for over 30 years. Love it

Oh definitely. I’ll browse around when I finish my tour at work this evening. Looking forward to seeing it all. I’m a relatively discord noob
I'm making a Mountain Dwarf Fighter, but I'm a bit confused, do I get the Dwarf Constitution score increase and the Mountain Dwarf Strength score increase, or does the Con swap to Strength when I pick to be a Mountain Dwarf?

@polar void
Best way to deal with goblins?
Offer them something they want
Treat them nicely and befriend them. They could be key to finding the needed clues/resources/and or information you need.
Isolate them, possibly tempting them away with noises and smells
My dm won’t let me befriend them
A knife
Well, they're probably aggressive. Roll for initiative.
A goblin horde may have a mob aggression, a goblin on its own is more likely to be scared (don’t let it get away), and easier to intimidate or injure
If there’s an opportunity to use terrain against them, be sure to
A bottleneck like a cliff side ledge or a cave opening can make it easier to cut off an individual or small group from safety
Other monsters (or conventional animals) could be in the area and usable as a tool
A river or cliff can give some safe distance if you feel you have the better ranged weaponry
Hi everyone! I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but i have a little question. Should I know more healing spells or have more health potions on me? my team keeps getting into some close calls, and I don't want anyone to die during an upcoming big fight.
Having an easily accessibly way of restoring hit points is a good thing for any character to have. If you can't find healing potions or prepare healing magic, you could buy a healer's kit that will automatically stabilise a dying character.
Adoption
I befriended an entire goblin tribe and took a queens guard as my new best friend c:
hey i just made a new character, is he balanced/good? https://www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/BigBoyArchive_90197471.pdf
Ok
I mean, I would pick some spells, but other then that it seems balanced to me.
ok thanks
also did you pick your racial ability score improvements along with the level 4 one?
yeah
So new player here do most people create their character ability scores using the 15 14 13 model or role the dice method like it says in the player handbook
On our first campaign our dm made us throw dice, with an extra throw if you did extra poorly on one
Usually the DM and players will discuss this and decide which method of stat generation to use.

I'll try YouTube like you mentioned

My other 2 didn't end well

I've always wanted to try dnd
All my friends have been playing for like 8 year's
I wanna understand all the references
Why is it considered bad to not have dark vision and how exactly does dark vision work
What's a BBG?
big bad guy
Big bad evil guy
Ok, I'm really new and just was curious
dark vision is based on other exceptional abilities like sonar etc , think daredevil
if your not gonna math it
mathing it can be fun if your into that, but is a game after all
know your table
and don't be afraid to write your own lore at your table imo
That makes sense then
imo if your DMing , just keep your internal consistency for player expectations
and thats a writing theory not a i am hardline a rules thoery.
or your game is not to subvert expectations and keep it exciting and breaking it just enough that they dont know what happens next
also assume your players read everything, and the break it just a little bit
then it becomes your own thing and gets really interesting
but if your just playing, design theory of writing your plot might not be your thing. shurg
My absolute DM advice is if your players fine some loophole, let them win the once. These are mostly game designers, not mathematicians. Then just close it up next session.
It's bad not to have dark vision because if you don't have it, you can't see in the dark.
How dark vision works: you can see in dim light as if it were bright light and in total darkness as if it were dim light.
oh, and it's all in greyscale. so basically you go full colorblind
if a creature does the search action and succeeds, can its allies see the thing the creature has searched for?
I'd say, if a creature finds something and points at it, with the intention of revealing its location you could add +5 to the passive perception scores of the allies who now know the rough location (as if the other creatures now have advantage to find it because advantage grants +5 to passive perception scores). If any of their passive perception scores now meet the DC to find the object they see it automatically.
This would be my gut ruling and is by no means reflective of actual game mechanics. The easier answer would be to simply say, yes, they can automatically see it.
i mean that if a rogue is hidden and a enemy searchs for it, would its allies be able to hit it?
Rules as written, no. I think my previous comment could be applicible in that situation though. In this case it is that kind of thing where the rules get in the way of logic. If you see the rogue and point out their locaiton, they shouldnt benefit from being hidden there unless they're hiding really really well.
If an enemy successfully finds the rogue by using the search action and points out their location, an ally could move to a position where the rogue cannot hide from. That would be a RAW way to run that situation in combat.
i see, i’ll just think of something
Hey
Does anyone know how to make a looking for DM post?
When I go to it it says I dont have permission to type and from what I see its just the bot saying stuff.
rogue still giving you trouble?
i mean idk how to get rid of them
or just damage them in general
not even killing
what are they doing in game that's so difficult?
attack, using cunning action to hide, repeat
he has +7 in stealth, so its very likely that he cannot get hit at all
Well they need to have somewhere to hide
if they are 5ft away from their enemy (the correct distance for a rogue to attack) and they try to hide, there needs to be somewhere within that 5ft range to hide. if it is flat ground all around them, then they can't hide
if they use their movement to walk afew feet away so that they CAN hide, then boom, opportunity attack
Rogue's don't just become invisible, but they can hide behind things like rocks, pillars, or anything that can obscure them.
If they are a halfling, they can even hide behind other players that are a larger size then them
no not exactly
ok, i'll be more careful of opportunity attacks
and the fact that you cant hide in plain sight
I would reccomend looking up the hide action. there is a lot of dispute on what it can and can't do, so that might help you
I would just say that overall, be sure the rogue doesn't become obsolete if he can't stealth. obviously it's annoying to never hit, but the same goes for the rogue if they can never sneak attack, so provide other ways for him to do so, like blinding the opponent or attacking with allies for advantage. those types of things
and encourage out-of-combat stealth moment's where they can shine
You specifically cannot hide if someone's looking at you
yes
What MOST rogue's do in these kinds of situations is attack, disengage, and then leave the target's attack range. this combined with sentinal can be pretty powerful
I'm technical a new comer but I have a question
What websites/applications are there for lore building, map creation, and etc
(Dumb question depending but is there a website for item creation similar to hero forge or something?)
Check out World Anvil
Alr tysm
anyone have a good online character sheet template i could use?
what do you mean by a template?
a sheet thats not filled in yet
Okay, have you tried the blank PDFs on the D&D website?
Alternatively, there's D&D Beyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
thank you, the ones i found were pngs
can enemies use opportunity strike?
everyone can use their reaction for opportunity attacks. literally every creature that operates on its own can do it. commoners and small beasts included. but not summoned creatures sometimes.
i see
I can’t think of a summon that can’t use opportunity attacks either but I guess there could be?
Conjure Animals beasts can for sure. just like every other summon that has a melee attack listed on its statblock
this includes creatures made by Summon Undead, Create Undead, Conjure Elemental, Summon Lesser Fiends.... Summon Draconic Spirit. etc etc
Even summons with only ranged attacks in their statblock still can make unarmed attacks as attacks of opportunity
yes but not things like the Wildfire Spirit that the Wildfire druid gets
because those cannot attack anyways unless you use a BA to command it, that kinda thing
Let's please remember that this channel is for the basics
If people want to to discuss or debate rules, we have #dnd-rules
aight aight, just ping me there if u wanna talk about this

Check out this post: #dnd-newcomers message
whats a good monster for a team of 5 level 1s to hunt? my new campaign is starting them off as monster hunters and i need a good first hunt target?
That's more of a #dm-discussion question
id say a orc but i barely play
That's not really a question for this channel, you want either #dnd-discussion or #1045166845688287292
Ah, thanks. I'll delete
what/who is homebrew
homebrew is when someone puts something in a game that is not in the official books, such as a magic item, a race, a class, or a rule
homebrew is basically content/rules made by anyone
for example if I create a new class by myself then it would be homebrew
that make so much sense
but homebrewing stuff yourself if you're new is usually a bad idea because of balancing
(just remember to ask the DM first if you can put your homebrew into the game)
Hello, I'm a beginner dungeon master and trying to learn everything I can. What would you say the best way to create a campaign is? Or the best way to keep track of the npcs, the rules, the places and other notes?
@spark mauve heandbook helper on youtube will help u make a charater, and rules
and i would watch youtube video about being dm
Personally, I use Microsoft One Note. I really like it, because I can break everything down into categories and tabs, and create links between pages. I'll make a notebook with sections like "locations" or "NPCs" or "Encounters" and then if I'm making a tavern in my locations tab, I can write the names of the NPCs that are there and turn those into hyperlinks to bring me to that character's page, in the NPCs tab.
Thank you! I shall use that :))

have fun
Don't forget tho that it uses their reaction. So a rogue can't do their Uncanny dodge, A wizard can't shield, they can't react to anyone else, or any other reaction feature they have until it gets back to their turn. So if you have 3 enemies and they all run away, then the party gets one opportunity attack each, the way they use them is up to them.

Hey guys can I get some help? Not super understanding of the spell mechanics for warlock
A warlock has more limited spell slots than other casters. They always cast at the highest level the warclock character has and refresh on a short rest.
Is there anything else you need to know?

i have been trying, but iv only every played base dnd (and one pokemon spinoff) and have no idea what anything is, means, or is about. i also have both not enough experience but also too much to be considered a true "newbie"
Okay so. The basics of D&D are this;
The referee tells you a situation, where you start and what you see. You then respond with what your character does, and the referee (called the DM) tells you how the world reacts. It goes back and forth until you do something that either A) the conversation can’t resolve, or B) activates an existing ability, you roll the dice to see if you succeed and how.
To make a character, you follow the processes in the basic rules. There are more options that cost money to access. But for now use the basic rules and practice so you get a feel for how char-gen works.
You’ll need a group to play with first and foremost; everything else can either be ignored or gotten from the group.
At that point, how you play will vary based on the group; sometimes it’s a discord call only, sometimes they use a program called a virtual table top to facilitate the game State, sometimes it’s done in Person!
I see
How do i make a looking for dm?

or is it just to cooler like that ?
Damage types do not have their own rules, but some rules interact with specific damage types
Such as ?
Vulnerability, resistance, and immunity
And
I dont really understand what's the gaming set
Is it just a set to pass the time ?
Or is there a rule or something ?
It's for roleplaying/downtime
If you want to say "my character wagers their sword against the guards shield in a game of cards", you'd need a gaming set to do so
Oh okay
How do i Work this new server? I wana make a AD for my friend For a DMZ home-brew but i cant make a Post in “looking-for-players”
So it isn't really important right ?
This server is for posting D&D games, not Dragonball Z
I ment DMC devil may cry
I want to post a ad for a Dnd Game inspired by it
Still, this server is for D&D games, not homebrew systems
Then i can take whatever I like and it won't influence the game ?
It has no mechanical effect - it's for role play use
👍🏻
hey anyone here
Hey there, I'm completely new to the game, like 0 prior experience, anyone have suggestions for starting out (I've literally watched like 1 video and didn't understand much but it looked fun)

is there a beginner's specific quest?
lol
Please keep replies helpful
D&D isn't that kind of game, you play through adventures and they can play out differently every time
how do you recommend finding a "DM" and group?
There are several newcomer friendly adventures; Lost Mine of Phandelver, Dragon of Icespire Peak, and Dragons of Stormwreck Isle

Hello may I ask how do you fill in a request to find dm
Okay so...how is RP done? Via chat and voice or do you use something like fantasy grounds?
Depends on what your group decides to use

Can anyone help me build two sub classes
Battle master
Samurai
Trying to make them melee. A bit lost on what to do to make them strong
@cosmic hedge You were directed to the correct channel; #1045165827068002374

It's a fighter subclass
Ok ill look up how to do that
You’ll just get lots of ranged builds….when I’m trying to build Afro samurai 🥲

Ty ☺️
Many groups are fine taking on new players but it always works best if you put effort into reading the rules and show a willingness to learn rather than be instructed on everything.
Check the pinned message here in this channel - it has lots of useful links to help get you started.
Hello boys and girls, so I want to find a group of players to start my 1st ever campaign but i need some help to create my character. Im not a complete noob because of videogames like BG3 and watching some videos of critical role.
If anybody is free to help me out would be appreciated
Hey Guys... Are there any groups that play somewhere in san Diego every week or every other week? I would like to join a group!!
You may have better luck checking local game stores/ hobby shops and Facebook.
But if you’re okay with online D&D okay, check the #looking-for channels here.
Thanks Buddy!
You should definitely check out Game Empire

Thanks man! Will most certainly do!
whats the diff between intelligence and wisdom?
Intelligence:theoretically knowing something (book learning) and how to extrapolate.
Wisdom: learned knowledge, experience,
Intelligence is knowing Frankenstein wasn't the monster.
Wisdom is knowing Frankenstein WAS the monster.
^^^I like that.
Strength is being able to crush a tomato.
Dexterity is being able to dodge a tomato.
Constitution is being able to eat a bad tomato.
Intelligence is knowing a tomato is a fruit.
Wisdom is knowing not to put a tomato in a fruit salad.
Charisma is being able to sell a tomato based fruit salad.
guys i need to understand something real quick
with a patron
as soon as you're level 1, you can choose to replace warlock level 1 spells with the Patron's level 1 spells, right ?
They are added to your spell lists
the patron spells are just added to your list of spells to chose from. you still chose warlock spells as normal
but let's imagine a patron gives me access to ray of sickness and detect magic as level 1 spells
and I can choose 2 cantrips and 2 level 1 spells
can I replace a warlock level 1 spell with Ray of sickness for example ?
if they're added to my warlock spell list, I can choose them freely, right ?
Yes
Correct. Each type of patron has a set of spells that are available for you to select that aren't part of the standard Warlock list.
you pick 2 warlock level 1 spells from your list. that list includes ray of sickness and detect magic thanks to your patron

Hello
When doing divine smite do you add any modifiers to the rolls?
Not beyond what you’d add to the weapon attack itself, no.
Also, I've seen sources that day you apply crit to divine smite. How would you gain crit for it? Just if you roll a Nat 20 for the accuracy roll?
can an elf have horns and wings
If the number on the die is a 20, yeah, all the damage dice for the attack get rolled twice, including Divine Smite.
Sure, why not?
thank you
Elves generally don't have those features, but there's no reason they couldn't. Always check with your DM.
You can make them look however you want. They wouldn’t be able to fly without a fly speed, though.
Looking for a table for Tuesdays
Hi! I've played dnd before but it has been a few years since the last time I did. I'm a player looking for a group that is on its first session and is available anytime Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. My time zone is mst. I'd prefer if there were only a few restrictions on what race and what class and subclass you can be. I would like to use dnd beyond and roll20 but those are technically optional. I want to use discord voice chat for games. Please DM me if you are a player or dm that has a group that needs a new player that fits this description. Thank you!

If you're looking for an in-person game I'd highly recommend googling "Adventurers League". Its mostly one-shots and will rarely be the same players two weeks in a row, but it is how I got started and swear by it for newbys

Hey, so I have never actually played D&D before, but I'm a big fantasy nerd and wanted to get into it so I bought a D&D starter set. So far I somewhat understand how to make a character, but everything else I'm kind of lost on. Does anyone have the time simplify the rules for me or is maybe hosting a beginners game soon?
How do I use the bot in looking-for-dm?
I’m wondering too
Would love to post an add for a D&D game but don't know how to. Any one help me out here?
I wanted to plan out a character before I get into playing for the first time and I wanted to know how good a dex and con focused warforged barbarian fighter would be for tanking
I plan to use a sheild and no armor and try to eventually get a few feats too after maxing dex and con
You can definitely do that, bumping your dex and con as I'm sure you've realised will give you a pretty respectable AC. Feel free to multiclass for your first character if you feel like you can handle it. I would often advise to just stick it out with a single class for your frist time
Hello all. I just joined this Discord and I am trying to look at the game submissions in looking for players but I don't have permission to view them? Any suggestions?
Hey there! My name is Alex, I nead some help if someone wouldn’t mind. I made a mountain Dawrf character but can’t really find any things about like Racial buff and prof and all that. So far just got the name and class on the sheet. Could anyone help me fix it up?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/races#MountainDwarf
Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 2.
Dwarven Armor Training. You have proficiency with light and medium armor.
@cobalt frigate Thank You!
Read the pinned posts in the channel and follow those instructions.
Where the banana is the #looking-for-players ?
Right under D&D Games, it will be the 1st listed in the sub section. I hope this was helpful.
yep, thanks
No problem
Is there a room I can find experienced DM to review the intro of a campaign I'm making?
Thank you!
Any tips for a first time DM (I've never played a campaign before)
There’s an article here with some good advice:

Any tips on races for twilight clerics? (Dm said any race even flyers)
