Yeah, the main draw is that those will give you and your group a lot more character options.
Ok... so... and sorry if I'm slow getting this... I can see that you can create something basic like a human rogue or wizard... I can create a campaign, have another player create that character, and run the lost mine... with no subscription and still make use of seeing the players dice rolls and sheets etc.?
Yep!
They’d be a Thief Rogue, specifically, or a School of Evocation wizard.
That is more than enough for me start practicing DM'ing
they're doing me a favour so they won't mind* limitations
But the PHB and other books add more subclasses, spells, feats, etc.
You (or your players) can also buy the options you need individually, if you’re not ready for the full book.
Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.
😮 that's pretty cool
Thank you so much both
That's so much info and a lot of ways forward for me ^^
Happy to help, and good luck with your game!
Thank you!
To put it plainly: the books unlock character customization options and magic items and such for whoever purchases them. The master tier subscription allows you to share the content from that purchase with other people in your campaign groups, but if you want to avoid the subscription, you can just have each player purchase the books they want to use individually
the subscriptions themselves don't actually unlock anything, aside from Quality of Life stuff like increasing your maximum number of characters you can create and whatnot
✨ Magic times! ✨
🙄 🤣
(The books totally do unlock more magic times, though!)
true
Thanks everyone ^^
I know custom Subclasses are an option
but I don't believe custom classes are a thing?
I was thinking of making a revised version of a Ranger for my player
That's correct. There's not yet an option to create homebrew classes.
Is there any plans for it in the future?
They've mentioned on several occasions it's something they'd like to add, but there's certain technical restraints that need to be resolved first.
I would imagine so, but I don't believe there's any current workaround solution to make a revised ranger in DDB with the current version?
Not really, no.
How do I add acid damage to my claws, I can't seem to figure it out.
so I have this issue wherein i have two chrome profiles
and since DDB for some reason doesn't have its own unique login I find myself having to swap profiles just to log into DDB and I can't link those profiles for the sake of DDB and it's quite irritating
sup with that?
You should be able to log in to DDB with a google account different to the chrome browser profile
That's what I do
I have three google accounts; personal, professional, and D&D. My chrome browser is only signed in as my personal account, but DDB uses my D&D google account
Unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean
@modest pelican i posted an ad for players yesterday but it was deleted, and you told me not to post full campaigns when i dont have any players for it?
on the ad i said "full campaign" which may have cause confusion but i meant that as in this will be a long campaign, so apologies for miswording it
Sounds like just a miscommunication. Feel free to post again, but please stick to the template so there isn’t any further confusion. If you want to express that it’s a long-running campaign, you can do that in the Additional Info section.
sounds good to me🤝
Are people not able to see the backstories and notes of other people's character sheets? Or does it not show up as a tab if there's nothing there?
The Notes and Description tabs are only visible to the player that owns that character, and the DM.
hey y'all, I'm having trouble using DnD Beyonds homebrew feature, I'm trying to make a subclass, and it has options once you reach a certain level. But I wanted to allow the player to get choose one more option once they reach a higher level, but so far i think i messed it up a little since it's giving them one more option than it should and I haven't been able to fix it
Inside the class feature, look for a field called “Class Levels Where Options Known”.
Putting something like 3,3,7 there will give them two choices at level 3 and one more at level 7.
No yeah I did do that,
but I accidentally messed it up when i first did it
I had it as 10,14,14
but then i changed it to 10,14
and it hasn't changed from 10,14,14
I don't know what to do
How long ago did you make that change?
Homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet.
Yep
Alright thank you for telling me
So it sounds like you’ve found the fix already. Just gotta wait a sec for it to catch up.
Alright thanks for telling me!
If you’ve got an option selected for that accidental third, you might need to unselect it.
Is there a way to modify your creature type of DDB? I'm trying to make a feat that changes your creature type depending on your experiences
(if anyone has an answer please ping me)
also is there any way to give disadvantage on death saving throws?
There's no modifier for creature type because it doesn't have a mechanical effect thus isn't explicitly displayed on the sheet. You can make a feat that says "Your creature type becomes X" and that's all that's needed
And I believe for death saving throws it's a similar thing; death saving throws don't have a dedicated area (unlike other saving throws) to roll from, so there's no space to indicate you have disadvantage. So you just need to have whatever homebrew you're making say "You have disadvantage on death saving throws"
coolio, thank
next question: How do I make a Natural Armour feat?
Just as a quick tip: the best way to figure all this out is to find something official that does what you need. Then you can make a homebrew copy of it and see exactly how it was set up. In this case, you could look at something like Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer.
i know
But you need to give it a Modifier with Type: Set and Subtype: Unarmored Armor Class.
That’ll give you an AC of 10+DEX to start.
I'm looking for the lizard folk, 13+dex. (making a hexblood lizardfolk)
Then you can add another ability score or put a number in Fixed Value if you need to adjust it.
So in your case, just a 3 in Fixed Value.
@fleet portal Can you provide more information as to what you need help with?
ok
G'day. Do you have an API for the SRD spells?
(The one I'm using is out of date.)
There are no official APIs.
Hey all - what would be the reason to buy the DMG and the MM on DDB?
Does it integrate somehow?
(I already have the hardcopies)
Stat blocks when you are building encounters for the MM for sure.
The DMG has a few players options you can use at your discretion as well. For either of these though, you don't have to buy the full book compendium, you can get individual stuff you want from those book pages in the marketplace
Ah ok - that's a feature I've not yet used; I'm running a practice campaign for lost mines in a couple of nights and I was planning to do tabletop - and use DDB's character sheet for tracking things. Wasn't sure what buying a digital copy of DMG and MM would do beyond being readily available for reference in that scenario.
Oh? What like?
Many many magic items: https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/dungeon-masters-guide
For example, if you go to the DMG page on the marketplace and scroll down to "Additional purchase options", you can purchase subclasses, magic items, and the like, all without paying for the book itself. That way, you only pay for what you want/need to use in the toolset. The same applies for monster statblocks from the MM, which can useful to have on DDB for quick and easy searching, even though you already have the physical book.
That would be your biggest benefit. I am running tabletop Candlekeep as a campaign but use the encounter builder to track initiative and have any monster stat blocks right there as their turn comes up.
Huh - I had no idea; I thought I could add items to players inventories without needing the book 0.o
I'll read up on it, right now I don't understand what my limitations are enough - I might find a youtube tutorial as well so i actually see what it is I'm getting ^^
Thanks peoples ^^
Yeah, if an item comes from a book you need to either buy the item individually or buy the book
No problem, happy to help!
Happy DMing! 🙂
i have a question about dming
how do you roll the stuff for the npc stuff
hwo do i make like a custom trait for a ssubrace im making
the trait i need it like the subrace has the ability to simg a lullaby that put ahtere enemies ot sleep
Super daft question - once I've purchased sourcebooks is there anywhere I can see and confirm I have them in full (besides order history)?
You can go back to marketplace. Books should say “you already own this.” Or you can try to access content specifically from them, like by doing a search.
Thanks!
Just ran my first test encounter ^^ - handy feature
Anyone know how to clear the game log?
There’s not a way to clear the Game Log at this time.
(It’s a common request, though. 🤞🏻)
No worries - it has enough pro's I'm happy for now 😛
There’s also an option in the Marketplace to hide the books you already own, so you only see what you’re missing.
I don't know if there's a specific DM help room so apologies if I'm hording this channel, but would any experienced DM's have any suggestions on how to even the odds for an under-sized party for my practice run? Should I run an NPC with them? I've heard some people have let players have a familiar but I'm not sure what that entails?
If you’re using DDB’s encounter builder, it will calculate the difficulty rating automatically, using the rules from the DMG.
So if something looks to easy or hard, you can play around with it.
But we do have a channel just for DMs, though: #dm-discussion. You’ll need to get the DM role in #880965682462875679 before you’ll see it.
My options for playing with it just appear to be having less enemies, is there another way? Doesn't matter if not, I can create something I'm sure ^^
Ah thanks!
Adding, removing, or substituting for another enemy is the only option that will change the result there, per the rules in the DMG.
But you can adjust HP and stuff if you want to change things, too. #dm-discussion can offer further advice there.
Is there a means to format the pdf output to match real character sheets so I don't have to wade through 8 pages of unfamiliar layouts to find things?
There are no formatting options for the PDFs, but which parts are you having difficulty with? As far as I'm aware, they're formatted to follow the official sheets
That's what I'm comparing to, because it's possible you may be using a different sheet
Exactly. The ones on the right are the 5e sheets, the left are the DDB ones. Nothing except character name and ability scores are in the same place, so it's hard for me to find information. Add to that that my outputs for the DDB sheets are routinely at least 2 pages for each sheet shown above and, again, organized so I can't easily find information once I find the right entry.
Bottom line, no love on reformatting the DDB. 😢
Back to manual entry on the 5e pdf downloads.
They're not exactly in the same place, but the layout is incredibly close, with only a few boxes moved around
As far as I'm aware, the D&D Beyond pdfs have been optimised for three information the digital sheets output
@analog plume I'm afraid you have the wrong channel. This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond tools, site, and services. You want #dm-discussion or #adventures-spoilers-archive
Ah thank you so much!!!
the special sheet customization frames that came with monsters of the multiverse can no longer be accessed? the class ones, some were animated. did i do something wrong in the settings or is ddb undergoing some maintenance or something else?
What happens when you try to access them, exactly?
I’m gonna guess they just no longer appear in your frame list, because I don’t see them in mine either. I’ve let the team know. Thanks for the report.
Should be fixed! Thanks again.
is there a way to turn homebrew items into artificer infusions on DDB?
Is it possible to add enemies to combat tracker in the middle of combat?
yes, you can edit the encounter and then save it. you still can resume it afterwards
What does 'SHow Level Scaled Spells" mean?
Essentially it means "Show the spell at the levels at which it can be upcast"
am not sure if am just not looking in the right spot but i swair dragons used to get spels
Variant rule in the Monster Manual.
Do you know the page off hand
It's under the Dragon entries, as a sidebar. Don't own a physical MM
Page 86 @verbal pasture
Hey Everyone, Had a question that involves platforms for virtual. i have been playing mostly homebrew with my pod and we really want to play virtual instead of drawing everything out online. Any suggestions for software that only one person has to purchase in order for the party to all be able to use it?
You want #dnd-discussion, this channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond specifically
Hello, Im trying to add a cantrip to a homebrew race but I cant quite figure out how to make it so that the spell shows up in the spell list when you go to the character sheet. this is the first homebrew race ive made so any tips or advice is much appreciated. Thanks!
is there any way to actually choose the type of damage it does instead of just rolling all of it?
this is not a dnd beyond issue. this looks like you are using beyond 20 on roll20, right?
so you would need to ask the devs of beyond 20 for help
alternatively, make a homebrew copy of the crossbow item on ddb and remove all the extra damage types
it rolls the 1d6 for the crossbow, and than 1d6 for every element on dndbeyond and sends it to roll20, so its dndbeyond side not roll20 or beyond 20
beyond 20 is not developed by dnd beyond. its third party so ddb cant and wont help you with this issue
i sent what it showed on roll20 because you see more, but its on dndbeyond's side not roll20 or beyond20
the only way this wouldnt happen if DDB decided to make a seperate magic item for every type of elemental damage, which would add a lot of clutter.
the way to fix this for you right now is to make a homebrew copy of this crossbow in ddb and delete all the "wrong" damage types.
Beyond20 changes the way it rolls on DDB. That’s not what happens when Beyond20 is disabled.
Can anyone tell me how to access the custom lineage race in the character creator? It is not listed among the other races and I cannot see a way to buy it either.
Buy Tasha's.
Thanks.
Two of my players created several placeholder characters on accident (bc they didn't know how to open the character editor without creating a new character) and then deleted them again. However, when clicking the campaign name of one of the character sheets, it still shows the old, deleted sheets. Is there a way to get rid of these?
It also shows both of the named character sheets with their old placeholder names and with no icon. The link still works and leads to the named character sheet with the correct icon though.
Can you link me to the placeholder characters?
Update: The issue fixed itself smh '^^
hey, i can't connect to DND and beyond for no reason, i don't know why but this appears every time when i try to connect
already unblocked evrything
DNDBeyond likes its cookies and cache and stuff
try disabling all browser extensions
they often tend to mess with site data and stuff
@chrome hound what browser are you using?
opera
Can you try using a different browser? Might be that opera blocks third party cookies by default
i already tried with google and firefox but it didn't work as well
and i also verified the third party cookies and no, they were not disabled
wait, in my phone it works
and it's also a opera gx browser
so uh...guess f me for that
Is your computer using a VPN or some other security software like Kaspersky?
nope
Any antivirus software that does any network/internet inspection?
Huh. Very weird.
The stat block is displayed in the spell
Im trying to do some homebrew summon spells
But i can find any summon Spell as a base de to most of this spells are source based content
You're going to need to maybe rephrase your question a bit more clearly, I'm not quite following
If you're saying that you're trying to copy a summon spell to see how it's done, you'll need to own at least one of the spells. The summon spells are found in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, they're not in the Basic Rules (that would be the conjure spells)
Hi, I own Tasha's Cauldron of Everything on DnD Beyond but when I create a Bard Character and select the Bard College, the College of Eloquence (included in Tasha's) is not in the list. Can anyone help?
It is sourced to where it first appeared, which is a Magic: The Gathering source. You'll need that toggle on.
hello, i have created a wizard elf and was wondering where the fireball spell is i cant find it ?????
you have to be able to cast the appropriate level spell. in this case, 5th level to unlock 3rd level spells
i have changed to 5th level and does still not appear
Do you own the PHB on DDB?
Don't worry about that, you don't need to own anything to access Fireball
@dim cloud Can you provide a link to your character?
Not the PDF, but the actual interactive character sheet on the site
Just copy the URL from the top of the page
Oh, it's part of the SRD? Right. Go to your character builder, switch to the character's spells tab, open Add Spells, switch to 3rd level filter. What do you see there?
Cool, lemme have a look
You are only 1st level. You need to be at least 5th.
@dim cloud Your character is still set to 1st level
You need to go to the class tab and set the level dropdown to 5th
i understand that but even if i change it still does not show
It does
Do what I said here and screenshot.
thanks for your help
Congrats. 🙂
👍
🙂
is there any method to display homebrew spells into the mystic arcanum section?
mark the spells as being Warlock spells, I'm pretty sure.
i marked the spell as a warlock spell, but nothing happend
is the homebrew content toggle on?
yes
Mystic Arcanum allows the selection of any warlock spell of the appropriate level
Can you provide a link to one of the spells (no need to publish)
Just copy the link from the URL bar
I'm seeing homebrew spells appearing as an option for Mystic Arcanum
For example, this is a 6th level spell I made
Are you checking the right Mystic Arcanum option? Each one is level restricted
And you have homebrew content enabled?
yes
Can you link me to the character you're trying to test this on?
of course, ddb.ac/characters/76274630/KDPFiO
I'm seeing homebrew spells being available
COPY_OF_Investiture of Flames and two copies of Soul Cage
One is the original Soul Cage, which is already a warlock spell
oh, dumb me
oh
now im seeing everything
but
i tried to make another spell for testing
and nothing happend
Homebrew sometimes won't show up instantly
hmm
quick question for dnd-beyond. I made a homebrew item on which I want to have a secret effect they will learn about. So lets say when they "atune" to it as only the one who is worthy will be able to trigger and learn about the effect. Is there a way to hide it untill a player unlocks the secrets?
Like in my case i have a ring. When they wear it, it will only "wake up" for the one who it is ment for. On the others it will have a different effect, of burning damge. So the thing i am seaking for is to make a ring description on which I can hide the burning effect from the players as it is only for the DM to know. And only show the other effects at the moment the player figures out what it does.
Nothing in the system supports that currently
Your best bet is to make two versions, one with the secret and one without
Then get the players to switch version when they attune
hmmm thats to bad. Would have loved to see an option to hide effects and a second description while not attuned.
Maybe a nice to have feature for the future ^^
and there's existing precedent for it too in the form of cursed items. ^^;
what do you mean?
They're referring to the fact that cursed items have information the DM may want to conceal (the curse)
yeah. I did manage to fix it sort off
I miss-used the spoiler feature off the description.
But i'm not sure if it will show the spoiler part while its in the inventory. l(
Would be so cool if you could just add different elements to an item like modifiers or descriptions sections which the DM can toggle on/off in your characters inventory
ahh well...
That would be interesting for evolving items 🤔
Is there a good t randem trasher genarater ?
anyone have an idea how i would add darkvision of 60 that increase previous darkvision by 30ft in a homebrew class? this is as far as ive got
I would suggest looking for an official feature that does that. Then you can make a homebrew copy of it and see exactly how they set it up.
is there an art channel?
Get the crafter role in #880965682462875679 to see it
99% sure I know the answer to this but if you buy a physical copy of the sources, you don't get a code or anything that gives you access on DnD beyond right?
no
damn that sucks 😦 lol
You can use DDB's homebrew tools to recreate that content for free. (For private use only, though. Please don't publish it.)
Or you can buy just the parts you need, like a single subclass. Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.
dice rolling keeps turning itself off right after i turn it on
Do you get the same issue in another browser, or on another device?
Similar to Ki and Sorcery Points, how can set the point system to increase with your level?
You need to add a new Limited Use for every level to change the Fixed Value.
I just bought a couple of single items on D&D Beyond website, how do I apply them to my character and be able to read them instead of still getting the guidebook page that says I need to buy it?
You should be able to just select them as normal on your character sheet.
Depending on what you bought specifically, you might want to check which Sources are enabled in your character preferences.
Outside of the character sheet, you can use the site’s Game Rules menu, then select the appropriate category and find your item.
how do I check character preferences
Click the Manage button next to your character name, then select Character Settings in the sidebar.
Is there a specific item you’re not able to find?
the particular sources are not listed... I'm trying to use the Aasimiir for my character, and then the Goggles of Object Reading. I bought them singly from the sources since I don't want to pay 60 bucks for two things
The Goggles need “Critical Role Content” turned on.
But Aasimar shouldn’t need anything special. Are you able to view it here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/1026378-aasimar
yeah, it looks like it's making me use my paypal again... hmmm
oh, got it. I got an upgrade option that time
Oh! I have to have a subscription of my own.
You shouldn’t need a subscription for this.
Does it show a checkmark next to that race here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/mordenkainen-presents-monsters-of-the-multiverse
it does. I can cancel the subscription at the end of the month
Alright. On this page, then, does it say your account entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
So I just downloaded d&d but I can't figure out how to play and I'm struggling to research ways to play
Can I play for free?
The free Basic Rules are all you really need to be able to play.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
And you can create up to six characters for free as well.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters
We’ve also got a bunch of helpful links pinned in #dnd-newcomers to help get you started.
I have read the book but I can't find people to play with or how t actually start a game
We have four channels to help you find your next game:
• #looking-for-players — Dungeon Masters/groups looking for players.
• #750812887697588356 — Players or groups looking for Dungeon Masters.
• #looking-for-community — Communities looking for members.
• #paid-looking-for-game — Professional DMs advertising services.
If you can’t see any of these channels, you will need to head to #880965682462875679 and select the appropriate role depending on exactly what you're looking for.
You have to keep in mind that D&D Beyond is just a digital toolset to help with playing D&D :) It is not like a Videogame where you can just start playing.
Well where can I play d&d
This article covers some of your options for playing online.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/750-new-players-guide-how-to-play-d-d-online
But at its simplest, D&D is just you and your friends telling a story together. Where and when and how you do that is up to you.
Online or real life dnd is a treat
Truely amazing
Also those amazing tortles i love them ❤️
What if none of Ur friends play d&d
Well…make some
Nah in Aus d&d isnt a thing
I mean here
But I have a strong interest in it
Theres plenty of goodies here
But I'm a mobile player who doesn't even know how to really play
☝🏻 There’s plenty of groups that play online. I’d start with #looking-for-players — just read through the games available, and if you see one you like, you can message the user privately to ask about joining.
Well id suggest ask a mod their good with stuff like dis
Ok I will thank you
So if I finish reading the book I should go to find players and they will send me a link?
Yep
That depends on what exactly you mean by “play on”.
DnDBeyond is a digital toolset (and access to the rules/books) to help you play D&D.
It is not an online D&D game if that's what you're asking.
But for online play, you can’t do it with only DDB.
At the very least, you’d need some other method to communicate with your group — Discord or Zoom or whatnot.
This article explains a bit about what DDB offers and how it fits into the game.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
Yes how do I access a d&d game
Can you clarify what exactly you’re expecting to do? That might help us better point you in the right direction.
You find people to play with (see the looking-for channels here or even your local game/comic store) and connect with people and organize a time to get together (in person or online) to play D&D.
But with my characters that I have made how would using them in a game work
Just learn to play really and u have helped me enough I have just one more question and I think I will have a perfect understanding
Let’s say your group plays here on Discord, through voice chat. The DM says, “As you work to fight off the pirates, a rogue wave spills over the deck of your ship, threatening to sweep you all off your feet. Roll a Dexterity save.”
You’d flip back to your character sheet on DDB to see what to add to a Dex save. If you use DDB’s digital dice to roll, it’ll add that number automatically and send the total to your group, so your DM can determine if you fail or succeed.
Alternatively, you might be at a table rolling physical dice, so you’d just manually add the bonus and tell your DM.
Like they said, DDB is a toolset. Your group can decide which tools you want to use and when.
It’s not the game; it’s just there to make the game easier to run.
Good evening, a long while ago I received permission from CaptainDeathCap to port his Pixie and Sprite Homebrew races into D&D Beyond and even make minor modifications. Problem is I don't really understand how to use the homebrew race creator.
Yeah, you’re welcome to add that for private use. It will get shared with your campaigns automatically. (Please don’t publish it, though; only the original creator can do that.)
But where exactly are you getting stuck?
Is there a way I can send CaptDeathCap (original creator) the completed port for him to upload publicly?
As for where? Mostly trying to add racial features. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to set up Ability Score Bonus options. Player’s can either choose to use the default race/subrace ASB or do Custom Lineage/Tasha's thing where you can choose your ASB asigment. (Yes I know you brute force it under Abilities in the character creator, but I'm stubborn and want this to feel polished)
For content that you aren't the author of, you cant share it publicly. There is no way to provide details to the original author to upload either. So whatever you create on your account for another person's homebrew needs to be kept private for your use only.
That's unfortunate but understandable. I'll see if I can work with CaptDeathCap so he may bring this homebrew to the public of DnDBeyond
Publishing is really a final step which doesn't need to occur, and if it does, ideally should be after months of playtesting, QA checks, etc - its not something to ever rush into lightly. You dont need to publish to use homebrew. The homebrew toolset is meant to allow users to tweak things, or use homebrew content - we aren't a publishing platform.
I’d suggest making a homebrew copy of an official race. Then you can take a look inside and see exactly how it was set up.
But for ASI specifically, you’ll need two racial features to do it that way.
The first needs a Feature Type of “Granted”, and that’ll be the version players get by default. Inside that, you’ll add Modifiers to actual grant the bonus. For example, Type: “Bonus”, Subtype: “Strength Score”, Fixed Value: “2”.
For the second, choose “Replacement” as the feature type and set it to replace the feature above. Then add the Modifiers for that one according to the new feature.
Sorry if this has been asked before. If I buy the physical copy of the dms guide, can I also get it on dnd beyond?
Nope
no.
Ah shit that's annoying as heck. I don't wanna buy the same thing twice lol
DnDBeyond digital purchases are independent of any physical purchases. Especially since DDB wasn't owned by WotC until very recently
Yeah I figured they might have found a way for you to use a barcode or something to prove you have it in person to get it loaded, after ddb was brought. Ohwell.
barcodes aren't unique.
Barcodes tend to be the same across multiple retailers. There'd be no way to prove it's a unique copy and not one downloaded on the internet. And they have never been released with a unique identifying serial.
Yeah I get that. Mean the isbn number in the front cover. All good. Question answered
ISBN numbers are non-unique. They identify the title, not the individual book
Lol okay I get it..
The books do not feature any unique identifiers by default
Disclaimer
As of 13th April 2022, D&D Beyond is now part of the Wizards of the Coast family, whereas before they were two separate entities. As such, ref...
Yep. Got that like three answers ago lol. All good. Just a question. Thanks for the answers..
Hello can someone help me with levelling up please?
I did Manage - Manage experience - set XP to level 2
but how do i now know where and how to learn a new spell and add the new stuff that has been learnt at this level?
You'll need to also go to the Class tab in the character editor and choose which class to level up.
OK so its a manual thing all my players should do
Yes
is there a way to create a mini-character sheet like used to show up when you posted a link to your character sheet?
Not at the moment, no.
Hey. I have a question... when I bought Dragon of Icepeak starter set, it came with a QR Code to unlock itself on D&D Beyond.
Others adventures or even books will unlock themselves as well?
Not yet - that’s the only one (so far) that comes with a DnDBeyond code.
hey everyone, I have all the source books but cannot seem to create an echo knight in dndbeyond. is there something else I am missing in order to make it or is it just not playable?
Turn on Critical Role content.
I am an I. D. 10 Tango... Thank you for your help.
no worries, friend. ahaha
What’s the initiative button do?
Cos dndbeyond rules say to roll a dex check for initiative so I’m confused - is this button the same?
Ok makes sense then 🙂
Hey, anyone else having login Issues with google? I click on the button and it doesnt do anything, I have tried literally everything the forums suggested, turning of adblock, turning of kaspersky, activation popups and cookies, trusting the website on kaspersky, clearing browser cache and cookie data, but nothing works, i cant even create a new account with google xD
What browsers are you experiencing this with?
chrome
edge as well
any browser
i think, i have tried edge and chrome, dont have more
funny thing is it worked just fine a week ago
I've just gone through the log in process my end and it worked fine
Do you get the same problem when using incognito browsing?
yes
tried that as well
i click on the button, it doesnt redirect to google login
i have wrote a ticket already, but because its off hours i thought maybe s1 here has a quick fix
It shouldn't redirect, it should open a new window for the google login
Do you have anything that might be blocking new windows being opened?
as said, i turned everything off
or more like allowed everthing for dndbeyond
the website is trusted on my virus scanner, has every allowance in chrome and adblock is turned off
...turn your computer off and back on again? maybe?
like... It feels like sarcasm, but I'm serious.
i can try but i did that multiple times as well
You might have to wait for customer support to get back to you, I'm sorry I can't offer any more suggestions.
okay
as said maybe its a common problem because of the switch to WoTC or smth
but that doesnt seem to be the chase
It worked on Opera GX even with Adblock and everything else on. Idk whats wrong with chrome and other browsers
Have the Steel Defender and Improved Steel Defender stat blocks been removed from “Extras”? I can no longer add them using extras > battlesmith defender. Thanks!
Possibly, since they were still using the original ERFTLW rules.
To add one with the current TCOE rules, you need to create it as a homebrew monster and calculate the stats according to your own character. Then I’d add it to Extras under “Misc” or “Pet” or something instead.
I have a Master Subscription and have several of the manuals, including Players Guide and Dungeon Masters Guide. I am trying to build a character that is a level 3 druid, and want to do Circle of the Moon, but I am only getting Circle of the Land options? When I look through the help section, everything says I have to purchase the Players Handbook to get Circle of the Moon, which I already have done.
Are you logged in as the right account?
Yes I am
And I am able to go to sourcebook and open the PH and read all of the contact, so it doesn't say I need to purchase it
Do you own the book or is it being shared with you?
I also have other characters that require the PH to gain options, and all of those work, it is just Circle of the Moon. I saw there were dozens of questions on the help site of DNDBeyond, but no answers other than purchase the PH
PHB, I own. Others I have had shared
Is there a different book that is required?
Nope, if you own the PHB, you should be able to access Circle of the Moon
Can you access other PHB subclasses, for example Arcane Trickster, when making a character?
If you only have access to Circle of the land, that would imply you don't have access to the PHB. Circle of the land is the one druid subclass that comes free in the SRD
Only thing I can think of is did you buy compendium content instead of the full book which give character builder options
OK I just looked through my marketplace orders and that was the issue. I got the Compendium Content, instead of the full book.
I have Circle of the Moon now.
Thank you @lone void
And thank you everyone else for the help.
Both versions of Steel Defender were available in the past several months. Any idea why they would have reverted to the older rules?
The TCoE version was never available to add to Extras outside of using homebrew. That book introduced a number of stat blocks, including the updated steel defender, that scale off the character’s proficiency bonus, which is not currently supported by the Extras tab.
At no point has it reverted to older rules. If anything, the old version was likely removed to prevent people from being shown the outdated rules.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/140338-notice-of-spring-cleaning-may-12th-2022 the stat blocks were removed as part of spring cleaning, in order to stop presenting incorrect rules.
A construct sorts books in the biblioteca. Text reads: D&D Beyond spring cleaning! Art is from Strixhaven: A Curriculum of Chaos.
Hello Beyonders!
As we...
I have it on an artificer not using homebrew. It is just now says "archived playtest" under the statblock and is no longer searchable in Extras.
thats not the tcoe version, thats the old version thats no longer RAW
Ok that makes sense then, was it changed in Mord? Thanks!
It was changed in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
The fact that it’s archived is why you’re no longer seeing it for other characters.
Came here looking for this. It would be lovely to eventually get this as an option.
I think I obfuscated the rolls I accidentally shared with the party in prep for my next session with them. 🙂
(created an NPC who will be fighting them and didn't remove him from the campaign or set log to Self Only before rolling)
HI, I've had the same problem with druids but I can't post a Monk Subclass because I don't have the right amount of features for certain levels.
First, just in case: unless you’re trying to publish to the global community, you can ignore those warning entirely. Your subclass is already shared with your campaigns automatically and can be used as-is.
If you are trying to publish (after your subclass has been fully implemented, playtested, and is working as intended), then you might be able to just hit the main save button again to retrigger the validator. If you’ve already got features at the required levels, the warning should go away.
If it doesn’t, you can check here to see what levels it expects:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/23242-creating-subclasses-guide
Ok, I am checking through the other monk classes because I know with druids you need another feature because the Circle of Lands druid has one at a level, Thank you!
According to that thread, monks need features at 3, 6, 11, and 17.
Are Thunder Gauntlets from Artificer supposed to be compatible with Dual Wielder in DDB?
The +1 AC isn't added up and the BA doesn't show up
i'm trying to add the effect type to a homebrew spell but i'm not sure how to do that
There’s debate within the community as to whether or not it should apply. As far as DDB goes, there’s other technical reasons that prevent it.
If you do want to use it (and your DM agrees), you can add the BA as a custom action instead.
Alright well, Ill just add it manually
Yeah
I dont really see why its really a debate though, seems pretty straightforward to me
As long as you dont hold anything, its a weapon, thus should be able to benefit from DW
Anyway thank you
Pedantics. TWF requires you to hold a weapon in each hand. If your hand has to be empty to use the glove, then you’re clearly not holding the glove.
Aaah I see
I guess its up to interpretation here
But it’s not gonna break the game to allow it, either.
I mean its a pretty powerful combo to be able to put dis on 3 creatures lvl 5
But I get it
Thanks!
That ultimately depends on the effect. What exactly are you trying to add?
a buff effect
After you’ve saved the spell the first time, you can open the Additional Information section. You can look for the “Spell Effect Tags” field at the bottom and add the “Buff” tag.
thank you for the help
Lets say im making a tabaxi, and I need to add the dex and char bonuses. do I add those in this colum? or somewhere else?
What’s a “char bonus”? Why are you adding them?
oh im sorry charisma. its from the ability "cats talent"
Oh! Sorry. I read “char” as in “character”. 😅
ohh my bad!
Cat’s Talent gives you proficiency in the Perception and Stealth skills.
oh, wait lete me check something
So if you need to make a Wisdom (Perception) check, you’d roll a d20, then add your Wisdom modifier and proficiency bonus to the total.
oh im sorry, i got it completely wrong. this is what I meant
was watching a yt vidio on it, and not sure where the bonuses go
DnDBeyond should automatically apply those bonuses from the picked race
Oh yeah, those you’d add to the ability scores there.
ok, thank you
And yeah, if you’re using D&D Beyond (which this channel is for help in using), it’ll do all these calculations for you automatically.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
I'm not using a website, just a PDF
ok, thanks!
For general game questions, I’d suggest asking in #dnd-newcomers, #dnd-rules, or #character-discussion.
oh shoot I thought i was there, im so sorry
Heya
Why do spells not pop up in equipment descriptions, like they do on the items page?
ie, I have Alchemical Compendium added to my inventory, but when I hover over the mentioned spells, nothing happens. Theres no hover effect, nor any link to the spell page.
But If you look at the item manually - there is?
Sidebars don't support tooltips currently
ah - thats a bummer haha.
At least in homebrew items, you can actually add in a hyperlink, with a pop up in separate tab.
Would have thought, this would've been a nice work-around whilst this tooltip feature isn't currently supported
Hyperlinks can't be published, that's the reason D&D Beyond uses tooltips
Tooltips count as internal links (the linking is handled at the site level, not the browser level). This is a safety feature to prevent malicious linking
I get that 👍
Is this on the dev table do you know?
One to watch out for?
Else, I'll write my own browser driven js script to run over the app, and create the akin tooltip effect
This has been a very helpful conversation - thank you @modest pelican
anyone know why the dice rolling stopped working
seems that it was just fine before but this morning i can't roll. I also cannot toggle dice rolling on either
any help would be appreciated.. thanks in advance!!
Do you have the same problem in another browser, or on another device?
i can use the mobile app just fine.. same problem on another browser.. my default is chrome
but i tried it on edge and still same issue
So I take it when you go into your character settings, Dice Rolling is turned off? What happens when you try to turn it back on, exactly?
yup. when i try to turn it on, I can see that it kinda works but then it automatically will turn back off.
Can you try it in Incognito mode?
Hey Im DM'ing a game for my friends with DnDBeyond and everytime they get a Nat20 it automatically doubles the damage die rolled but we want to turn that off due to house rules. Is there no way to turn that off?
You can disable it per-roll if you right click or long press on the roll beforehand.
But no, there's not a way to permanently disable it.
Okay thank you
seems there was a browser update. that seems to have fixed it. thanks so much for your time and willingness to help out
Hey guys, I'm wanting to add this homebrew for my ranger.. but I'm not sure how to put it in beyond
Any help?
Optional Ranger Feature
Hunters Mark (Level Two ranger feature, it substitute favored foe.)
At 2nd level when you attack a creature you can see, you can expend a spell slot to mark that creature as your quarry. For 1 hour or until you lose concentration (as if concentrating on a spell), you deal an extra 1d4 damage to the target whenever you hit it with a weapon attack, and you have advantage on any Wisdom (Perception) or Wisdom (Survival) check you make to find it. If the target drops to 0 hit points before the end of the duration, you can use a bonus action on a subsequent turn of yours to mark a new creature. When you use this feature, you can choose one of the following benefits per spell level you used to cast this feature.
• The die size increases from 1d4 to 1d6. You can choose this multiple times, increasing to 1d8 then 1d10 and finally 1d12
• The duration of the feature increases from 1 hour to 8 hours. You can choose this a second time, increasing it to 24 hours.
• If the target drops to 0 hit points you may mark a new creature by attacking it on your turn (no bonus action required)
• Hunters Mark does not require concentration.
• If you miss the marked creature, you have advantage on your next attack provided you attack the same creature. You can choose this feature a second time, if you do so, you may make an extra weapon attack immediately as a reaction after you miss your quarry, provided that the attack targets only your quarry.
• The extra damage applies to one beast you command (example: Beast masters primal companion or the spell summon beast). you can choose this feature multiple times, increasing the amount of beast this feature applies to by two each time.
At level 6 and again at level 14, the spell slots used to fuel this Feature counts as one level higher.
You may only have one Hunters Mark active at a time.
You can't currently add optional base class features as homebrew
You'd have to add it to a subclass
Damn
Is there a way to display just one type of damage for the Dragon Wing Bow on our character sheet(s)? Currently it's displaying all the types of damage it's able to use
You can make a homebrew copy of that weapon and remove the addition types.
I suppose that will do for now - thanks though!
Are the no more Dev Updates on twitch? I haven't seen one for some time.
The semi official word is they're still "unpacking". They know it's important to the community and will likely say something if there's an important update
The merger with WotC shifted some things around, but it'll be back at some point.
How do I apply Tasha's floating ASI rule to any race?
In your character settings, you'll need to enable "Customize Your Origin". Then on the Race page, select the "Custom Origin Manager" tab, enable that change, and switch back to the main tab to make your selection.
I am lookin g for amonster and idk if thay exzist
i wass hohping ther wer things like Pseudodragon only just super small dragons of the difint colours
I’d suggest asking in #dm-discussion or #dnd-discussion. This channel is for technical help with D&D Beyond itself.
(These are all the dragons that are Tiny or Small, though: https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters?filter-type=6&filter-size=2&filter-size=3)
"Fairy Dust. Your wings cast off a shower of sparkling dust,
reminiscent of the tail of a shooting star. You make
Dexterity (Stealth) checks at disadvantage whilst flying. In
addition, you have advantage on Charisma (Persuasion)
checks against creatures you sprinkle with the dust."
I was able to get the stealth disadvantage working, but I'm trying to work out how to set charisma advantage part. So far I figure it is an action and I want it the uses to be based on PB.
I'm working on Porting CaptainDeathCap's Pixie and Sprite races for private use in DnD beyond, and trying to add this racial feature
Honestly, since the persuasion advantage is conditional, I'd just leave it in the text description.
If you want it to always show an "A" next to Persuasion, you can add a Modifier with Type: Advantage, Subtype: Persuasion, and fill in the Details.
As for limited uses, you'll need to create an Action first. Make sure to give it a Reset Type, then save it and edit it again. Then you can find the Limited Use section at the bottom.
Quick question: If I open content sharing on one campaign, and another campaign has a subset of the same people, do I have to open content sharing again for the other players to be able to have access to my books?
Yes and no
Yes if you want their characters in that campaign to be able to access the options
No if you only want them to be able to access the compendiums of the books
So if I want them to be able to create new characters in the new campaign with feats and such, I'd have to turn on content sharing again?
Yep
Okay, thank you!
Why does in DnD Beyond when I download or make a race that has subraces, only the subraces appear and not the parent race in the character builder?
It makes organizing them a little challenging.
That’s just the way it works, I’m afraid.
Question: does anyone actually use Beyond to play with Aberrant Mind and Clockwork Soul? How do you guys manage to retrain your psionic and Clockwork spells?
At the moment, it can only be swapped by making a homebrew copy of the subclass and changing it there.
Similar question to one above, I also made a race with subclasses, yet on the view details page, the subclasses are not there. Is this by design?
Is it possible to edit the name of a monster in the encounter builder
Not currently, no.
But you can vote for that here if it’s something you’d like added.

Quick question if anyone can help
I was playing with some friends and their children joined our Campaign. They didn't have an account so I created characters for them and printed character sheets. Now they have their own emails and tablets to play at our table. Can I send their characters they created to their accounts to join the campaign or do I have to erase the ones I created so they can recreate their characters?
What do the little gray/blue asterisks next to spells mean?
Add the characters to your campaign, if you haven’t done so already. (You can use the invite link at the top of the campaign page.)
Then on the campaign page, click to Unassign those characters. Once that’s done, you can send them the invite link and they’ll be able to select those characters for themselves.
Next to which part of the spell, specifically?
I have a Homebrew Campaign on Foundry VTT. Copied the Game Invitation Link (tried both the Local and the Internet links) but can't figure out how to bring my character from DDB into my Foundry campaign.
Open that link in a new tab/window. You will be prompted to add one of your existing characters or create a new character for that campaign
There is no official integration between DDB and Foundry. If you’re using some third-party product, you’ll have to ask its creators if you need any help with it.
Oh shoot I misread the whole question - lol
phantasmal killer and disintegrate
So… in the Effects column, then?
That means the spell has additional effects beyond the one displayed.
I.E. those two spells do more than just damage.
The ones in blue are simply where the spell is displayed at a higher level.
Thank you.
So i made a homebrew feat to let my warlock player have free access to the expanded spell list, I then deleted the feat from my creations (because i am going to try it with editing the subclass instead) and am unable to remove the feat from my player's sheet.
What happens when you attempt to remove it from your player’s sheet?
I do not see the feat in the list to try and remove it
Was it added under Manage Feats or for an Ability Score Improvement?
manage feats
And it’s not at the bottom under “Unavailable Feats” either?
Is Homebrew Content still enabled for that character?
yes, i checked there too, it should be, i will double check
homebrew content is allowed
But it still shows up under Features & Traits?
Worst case scenario, you can un-delete it. Try and Restore it first, then Add to Collection, and wait 15 minutes or so, just to be safe.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-creations?filter-status=1&filter-status=3&filter-type=1088085227
yes, will try that thanks
So does DnD beyond only have limit of 10 racial traits per race?
No?
hallo is do you need to buy smth to get the crossbow expert feat ? i want to add it on my character but the option doesnt show (my characters a rogue/fighter)
Crossbow Expert is part of the PHB.
hey when I equip weapons or do anything the only feat i can have is grappler
ohh
i cant find it on my feats list for some reason
That is probably because the only free feat is Grappler.
Do you own the PHB or the feat?
Please elaborate.
wdym only FREE feat?
Did you pay DDB for anything?
no
Do you understand now?
See the link I gave Rie
Individual feats are $1.99 and will be removed from the total cost of the book
My bad. Forgot to add Granted xD
quick question: this icon on character sheets, is it suppose to represent how much of a character is done? I've got a couple of characters where I can't find what would be missing
The homebrew tools are not currently optimized for mobile - they are essentially the same tools DnDBeyond devs use to add things (minus special database stuff that has to happen for some things). And they typically are on laptops/desktops as far as I know.
So for a better experience, I suggest using a laptop/desktop.
It's just a button to go to the edit screen from the sheet iirc
The buttons always appear for me when I switch my phone to landscape mode. Then you'll be able to click a button and have the option to go back into portrait mode to edit (or stay in landscape). When you get back to the traits window to add a new one, you have to do it again though.
So if you're able to switch the orientation of your device, I'd suggest trying it.
Where arms of hadar spell
PHB, pg 215.
Thank you
Why are there no traits showing up?
What background did you choose?
I purchased the three spells from Apparatus of Kwalish and it isn't showing up in my character options. It's been over an hour since I purchased them.
Do you have “Noncore D&D Content” enabled for that character?
That did the trick, thanks.
I'm trying to have a character be a reborn and I am not sure how to do that. Can't find it in races or anything and I have the book it should be in
Weird. I have the book but can only see custom lineages
So, has anybody figured out a way to add firearms to the list of possible choices for Kensai Ranged Weapons? I've tried a couple of approaches and just haven't found a way to make it work in Beyond.
You purchased the book yourself, or is it being shared with you?
If the latter, you’ll only be able to use it for characters assigned to the campaign that’s sharing it.
Figured it out. Thank you. I was in the wrong campaign
Trying to upload an image onto a custom monster, however every time I try I get an error screen. This is not for the size of the image as I made sure to make it the correct size, as well as it correctly displays the message for the image being too large when it isn't sized right. I also was able to upload the small avatar just fine.
If it means anything there is already an image in the large avatar area but not the small, however this has never been an issue before.
The error itself says it is an internal server error.
Anyone know if there will ever be support in DDB for the extra features of the Artificer Armorer's level 9 Arcane Armor?
or really any way at all to set up your Arcane Armor specifically
I'm supposed to be able to attach an infusion to my armor's special weapon specifically at level 9 and there's no way to do it in DDB
I have a question? for classes like the fighter who get to use the attack action twice on there turn as of 5th level would they get a bonus action for both attack action. So take a blood hunter for example with order of the lycan. So at 5th level I could attack twice but i can also attack an additional enemy as a bonus action when using an unarmed strike. so would that mean i could bonus action on both attacks or simply on one of the two.
that's a #dnd-rules question, but the answer is Extra Attack isn't giving you two Attack actions, it's giving you two attacks per Attack action.
and even if you did get multiple bonus action triggers, you still only have one bonus action to use on your turn, so you'd have to choose which one to use.
sorry if i’m in wrong place but thanks a lot
mhm
Thanks. Gonna try now
hm... crud, it's been a while since I looked at race options. one moment
It just gives me the base description, but not the actual options
Okay
After that, give it about 15-20 minutes to let it propagate through the cache, and try to see if it gives the options then
Ah
Mhm
Strange thing was, it was working a lil bit ago. I just added a modifier to one of them.
can anyone tell me how to add a pet on a charecter sheet, i.e. a dire wolf?
Extras tab.
thank you!
hey, not too sure if this is the right place to message but i ordered some stuff from ddb and only a bit of it has been added to my account. anyone know what to do?
What wasn't added?
When did you purchase?
yesterday in the evening
Yes. That doesn't sound normal. I can't help but a moderator will probably be here shortly.
oh awesome, thanks though :D
Are you able to view it here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/fighter#EchoKnight
Then you do have access already.
To use it for a character, you’ll also need Critical Role Content enabled for that character.
It has been 1 0 days since the last facepalm.
lmao
Hey, I'm trying to add items to my sheet, but they wont show up to add them. For example I'm trying to find the +3 rod of the pact keeper, the +2 variant shows up, but not +1 or +3. There are other items doing this to me, but this is the most recent
Can you share a screenshot?
Strange. It show up fine for me… 🤔
Did you purchase the item yourself, or is it being shared with you?
I have no idea why this is happening. I think the last item I tried looking for was The burning guantlets from Baldurs gate.
The +2 version is in the same book, so the +3 should show up still. And I think I do have the book
I'm able to view the contents of the book it's from so I own it
Normally it takes me to the market when I don't own it
The fact you can view it might mean you purchased it, or it might mean it’s being shared with you.
Is there a checkmark next to it here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/dungeon-masters-guide
No, damn why is it doing that to me. So annoying
So that means you haven’t purchased it; it’s being shared with you.
Is the character you’re trying to add this to assigned to the campaign that’s sharing it?
No, this character is not in a campaign link
Then it makes sense that you’re not seeing the +1 or +3. Shared character options are available only inside the campaign that’s sharing them.
Why am I seeing the +2 version though?
So it’s the +2 that’s the question. Is homebrew content enabled for that character?
I do not have homebrew of it
Still: is homebrew content enabled for that character?
No
Just checked
Normally I turn everything on though becuase screw hidden content
If you go to this page, does it say your account entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
how do I make this public
It’s already public.
hey. so since I last asked, at one point, all the pictures and things loaded well, but then they went off again, and now even my character sheet background won't load
have people discovered what's causing it / how to fix it yet?
Yours is the first I’ve heard of backgrounds not loading.
I’d suggest clearing your DDB cache and cookies to start.
I can't do that unfortunately as I have all my campaigns saved using AboveVTT
Images not loading are generally related to cookies/cache - the only way I know to resolve it is to clear them. We also recommend to not use any third-party extension as we cannot vouch or confirm what they might do or if they may cause issues.
ok, thank you
the issues do persist when I have the addon disabled, so I don't think that is what is causing it
I also have quite a few friends who have similar issues
As I said - images not loading is cookies/cache - you HAVE to clear them.
I also dont recommend using any extension that changes the site - thats a whole separate thing.
do you know of any virtual table tops that integrate seamlessly and are free and incredibly easy, quick and effective to use?
No, we don't have any integration with any other platform.
I started out using roll20 but that's just not good for me, uploading maps and constantly running out of data and having to upload all tokens, just not practical
has anyone got any other suggestions?
Well this is moving away from DnDBeyond assistance so I suggest asking in #dm-discussion - lots of DMs there who use a variety of tools alongside DnDBeyond to run their games.
ok thanks
Question I'm trying to set up racial trait options on the same race to effect other racial traits later in. So for the pixie/sprite, I'm making an option where you can choose to have flight or the option to be a flightless pixie and come with a small cr 1/4 beast companion as a mount
I have it kinda working
Just not as seamless as I would prefer
So when I toggle the granted option on, it makes my option disappear instead of auto apply???
Granted means it is automatic - if it is something that is optional or replaces another trait, it is not granted.
So I have a trait to gives you the option to choose flight or be flightless, I'm trying to make a second trait that automatically fills in the traits for the corresponding options. Winged/flight grants you access to the pixie dust trait, while flightless grants you access to the Beast Companion/mount trait. As I have it now. I can manually select the corresponding item, but not automatically?
Sorry if that was hard to read
Okay, so it isn't a replacement? Not sure why you have it set as prerequisite, as options shouldnt be created that way off memory.
I'd suggest using the how-tos pinned in the Homebrew sub forum on the website - that's the number 1 spot for Homebrew information.
It isn't a replacement. It's more of I want "If you choose A over B, you automatically get C" instead "If you choose A over B, when you get to options C and D, you can only choose C"
Im not even sure if such a setup is possible - the best place to ask is the forums. There are power users of homebrew there, and they might be able to provide tips
It's almost like I'm making a subrace within a subrace if that makes sense
Okay
Again, what I have going works mechanically, it just feels clunky
I just assumed that by clicking granted on the option with the set pre-requisite trait, that it would automatically use that one
Granted has nothing to do with options - Granted/Replacement/Additional is all to do with replacing (aka Optional Class Features or Customize your origin).
Is it a common problem for spells like mage armor or magic items that boost armor to not automatically update a character’s armor
There is no temporary effects system - so casting mage armor doesn't change anything, you would need to manually adjust (the sheet doesn't know how long to leave it, when it is dispelled, etc.)
As for magic items- they would be setup with the bonuses. Either check if it is attuned, or if homebrew if it was setup correctly.
Would this be added to the app soon then?
The manual change I mean
There is no system - it has always required a user to manually change. We aren't a video game where casting a spell is targeted to a sheet and changes something.
anyone know why wish isn't showing up for my genie warlock here?
like in TCoE, it says that in the expanded spell list, there is a wish spell
Welcome to the Support Thread for TASHA’S CAULDRON of EVERYTHING
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D ...
wait so correct me if I am wrong, there is just no spell?
this was released in 2017 and it hasn't been fixed?
OPTIONAL SPELLS. Gate & Weird spells are not showing as being available for the Mystic Arcanum feature.
THE GENIE - Expanded Spell List. Currently we are adding all of the spells in this feature to the spell list of your Genie warlock - please reference the rules for which spells you are allowed to select for your chosen genie patron. This is due to a limitation in the tools that prevents us from being able to specifically set the spells based on your choice of genie kind. It's something that is on the list for resolution however.
THE GENIE - Mystic Arcanum. Wish is not available for the Mystic Arcanum feature.
FATHOMLESS - Tentacle of the Deeps. If the attack is set to display for this feature it incorrectly adds your characters CHA bonus to the damage roll.
not at the moment. not entirely sure why they couldn't add it, just that they couldn't. theoretically, you can add the spell manually, or maybe tweak Wish in homebrew to become a Warlock spell.
shrugs might be a tech issue, might be a database issue. don't know.
What background did you select?
@potent widget You want #character-discussion, this channel is for getting help and support using the D&D Beyond tools, site, and services
Is it possible to gift someone a DDB Dice Set but let them choose their own dice?
It is not, you have to purchase the set and then send them the code for that particular set
hmmm...choices...
The metallic dice are a simple favourite of mine
I went with Jasper's because charity, and Planar Summoning because they're awesome 😄
Davyd, when you say metallic does that mean the Blacksmith pack? I love the look of those but worry not enough contrast between the numbers and the background. My players complain that the 7 looks like a 1 in the basic set, so we are trying to avoid that.
Yeah, the Blacksmith pack. The contrast is fine for me, plus you also get the game log relaying the values
ohh wait it was because i selected custom
When you choose a custom background, there’s an option for “Background Characteristics”. You’ll need to make a choice there before it will know which characteristics to suggest.
Question. I have access to Tasha's thru one of my DM's, but I don't own it myself. So for the campaign I'm running, there's understandably no access to it. What I can't figure out is how to purchase it for myself. Everything I can click for Tasha's from the sources/sourcebook menu, pages and searches, just takes me to the digital content, but no link to buy. I can't find a way to get it so that I as a DM can also use it. Am I missing something obvious? Thanks in advance!
Did you try from Marketplace?
Try the marketplace here
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/tashas-cauldron-of-everything
That was the obvious thing i missed. More coffee is needed. THANK YOU
No worries 😊
Thanks! Derp day for me
Not a problem. If that content wasn't being shared with you, and you clicked on it from the Sources menu, then it would have presented you with a "Buy Me!" sort of page. So cut yourself a bit o' slack. 😀
does DDB have an official game thing on their website?
or is it just there to help keep track of characters and such
I don’t know what you mean by “official game thing”? Do you mean do they run game from the site? If so, then no.
What do you mean by “official game thing”?
like a campaign thing with other users and one of them being a DM and a story and all that (pretty much standard D&D but on the website)
This article has a good summary of what DDB offers:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
You can create a campaign, characters, etc and use the Encounter Builder to run encounters. The site helps you handle certain things like viewing character sheets and referencing adventures, rules, etc. spend 10 minutes and give it a look. I think you’ll like what it offers.
We do have two voice channels here you can use.
(But most people just set up their own servers, or use something other than Discord.)
You could run in the Play-by-Post forum too
Hey I'm trying to edit a homebrew background and even after updating it and saving it the updated ideals aren't being made available to my characters, they keep the old ones.
I've deleted the character after the edit was made, and saved the changes to the homebrew background and verified that the changes have indeed occurred on the homebrew creation view details page, however according to my new characters when I enter the character builder the old options are still the ones in place.
Homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet.
It's been much longer.
At least well over an hour now.
It finally has updated, but yeah, it took nearly an hour and a half.
No one know?
How do I make a weapon hex warrior weapon?
click on the weapon in question, click customize. should be a check box to make Hex
thanks!
mhm!
I signed up for master tier and I still can't make more than 6 characters
In fact, none of the benefits are there
What do you see under 'Subscriptions' when you go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
What do you mean by 'that sales copy'?
The 'You are not currently subscribed' message?
no its the sales page for subscription when i click the link above
redirects here
Subscribe to D&D Beyond to create unlimited characters, share your books with friends, and access game tools that make playing Dungeons & Dragons easier.
Are you logged in?
yeah'
It shouldn't be redirecting you
cleared cache/history/cookies and tried a different browser too
What if you go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/account and click the Marketplace tab (second from last)
So yeah, looks like your subscription didn't go through
I have the confirmation though
On the same account?
It's possible to accidentally make an account if you attempt to sign in with a google/apple account you haven't actually linked to D&D Beyond
Any issue with linking to WotC?
The WotC account linking doesn't do anything at this time
One second
I have the confirmation but it hasn't gone through on my credit card yet
but I can't subscribe per that first image I sent you
There's a chance your card issuer may have not completed processing the request
The email confirmation would be confirming you've attempted to subscribe, but until the card issuer confirms the transaction, you won't actually get the benefits
I understand what you're saying, I don't understand how it wasn't nearly instant, though.
That'd be down to your bank; some transaction get flagged, or take longer to process (especially standing orders and repeat payments)
I'll be in contact with them once business hours start up.
I thought I'd try changing the payment method. That did not work.
Just for the record.
Whats your username?
same as here, gamemasterbeas
Okay, so you have multiple accounts, and my guess is that the sub is linked to the incorrect one which is causing issues. Can you raise a support ticket and if one of the rest of the team dont get to it when they get online I'll try to figure out where everything is going when im on the clock tomorrow (Im almost about to pass out so if I press buttons now I'll probably make it worse) - http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
I'm trying to embed multiple statblocks into a Homebrew Subclass.
I just don't know what's going wrong. I've made custom creatures and have been following the instructions to embed a statblock but it's not working. Any ideas how to fix?
Which instructions are those?
Note that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet, too.
Hi, I'm creating a character (hexblade warlock) and it's not showning me in starting equipment the weapons I'm proficient in (no swords eg)
Anyone else? already tried to create another Cha but no luck
Your starting equipment has nothing to do with your proficiencies.
The warlock class says this:
You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:
- (a) a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) any simple weapon
- (a) a component pouch or (b) an arcane focus
- (a) a scholar’s pack or (b) a dungeoneer’s pack
- Leather armor, any simple weapon, and two daggers
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/warlock#ClassFeatures
Can you share a screenshot?
No wait, I'm just dumb I figured out
For the record, swords are martial weapons, not simple weapons.

Sorry for the bother ahah
Hello, everybody.
I am located in Colombia and using the dnd beyond android app.
As of today (that I noticed) I was being able to buy content from the app's inside marketplace but today when I browse I only see "Currently unavailable". I still have access to the content I have bought previously and on the web site/desktop site I can access the store and see the prices, but the thing is that in the app the prices were in COP and on the site they are on USD...
Is there a maintenance going on or something?
The app handles purchases through the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, depending on your device
If either of those services are down in your region, or otherwise restricted, you won't be able to make purchases
Additionally, those services will provide prices in local currencies, whereas the D&D Beyond marketplace will always provide the price in USD
FWIW, my iPadOS-based app shows I can buy through the app if I want right now in the US. Tested on two adventures
why does the initiative not automatically update on the character page after rolling for it?
I have rolled and it still says 0 on my character sheet
That's your initiative modifier, not your current initiative in combat
it has been a while since I have put a character together
If your DM is running an encounter using the combat tracker and you roll for initiative, the result will be displayed there for your DM to see
well, I am just creating a character for when my group is able to start up a new campaign, I want to be ready
If your dexterity modifier is +0, your initiative modifier will be +0
Nothing will 'update' when you click to roll initiative
it is the first time I had used D&DBeyond
Everyone's gotta start somewhere
How do I know if my character is op it's my first time creating a character
You probably want to ask in #character-discussion
I am running a Paladin, so we will see what happens
Okay, although if you want to discuss your character, I would point you to #character-discussion as a more appropriate channel
hey double checking Artificer known spells is equal to Int mod+ half Lv?
How easy is it to cancel the subscription on DDB?
like you can cancel it right away?
You can look for info here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/store/subscriptions/manage
That page didnt answer my question
Ok. How about this: https://support.dndbeyond.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002042033-How-Do-I-Cancel-My-Subscription-
Oh so it's real easy?
I mean, I don’t work for D&D Beyond, but it seems like it to me.
cool
anyone else having issues with seeing their character in Chrome?
everything seems to be running super slow on the site
nope
They’re prepared spells, not known, but yes.
You prepare the list of artificer spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the artificer spell list. When you do so, choose a number of artificer spells equal to your Intelligence modifier + half your artificer level, rounded down (minimum of one spell).
(Also, that’s a better question for #dnd-rules. This channel is for technical help with the site itself.)
Ah oops and thank
It specifies when viewing legacy content that it cannot be purchased "directly" in the marketplace. Does this mean there is an alternate way to purchase legacy content?
No, it's just the particular wording that they used
Well that's unfortunate. How can I access legacy content that I do not yet own then? Can I borrow it from a friend who has it at least? I mean i don't have any friend's who have it (I dont think) But it would be nice to know if the option is there
you need to campaign share it, yeah
This is incredibly unfortunate, i feel like wanting to purchase legacy content is an okay thing.
Can someone help me out here? I have the contents of the D&D Essentials Kit in my account and I can even see it under "Current product licenses", but I have no idea how to access the contents
You want to go to the sources option of the megamenu. From there you'll have access to
Dragon of Icespire Peak
Sleeping Dragons Wake
Divine Contention
Storm Lord's Wrath
I found the Dragon of Icespire Peak book, but I don't seem to be able to find the Rulebook of the Essentials Kit - that's what I'm trying to find at the moment
That'll be the Basic Rules
those are always free and you don't need the Essentials Kit to access them
Ooh I see. It doesn't look exactly the same but I bet it's the same info in there
Thanks for helping me out, Davyd!
It's more info than what you'll get in the Essentials Kit rules
Its the Basic Rules + the SRD
I'm gonna have a look at it. Thanks again!
Does anyone know what the character limit for a campaign is?
I believe it is 12 active ones, but can't remember if I have a source for that
Thank you.
It is definitely at least 9 as one of my campaigns currently has 9 characters in it
Is it possible to use homebrew monsters in the encounter tracker?
Yes
Thank you all.
How do I skip lines in Discord?
For example Player Name:/Class/Race/ and so on. I want everything to be neat and readable.
hello, how do i disable 3d dice rolling?
Dice rolling is either on or off - there is no way to disable the 3d effects as that plays a role in the random numbers generator functionality.
That said you can use DnDBeyond's Avrae bot on Discord to do your rolling - it also can connect to your character and display the rolling results into the shared dice log in a DnDBeyond campaign (and vice verse - roll on the character sheet and it can display the roll into a connected Discord channel).
I feel like I'm missing something obvious... I want to add the magic item "Seeker Dart" to my inventory, but for the life of me I can't get it to show up in the list of things to add to my inventory.
Is it homebrew?? I don't regularly use homebrew items. I was wondering if that's why I can't find what book it's from.. https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/5582-seeker-dart
Okay so it comes from an adventure book - do you have that book on DnDBeyond?
which book? i can see its stats from looking it up, if i don't have the book i normally can't do that
Or is the character connected to a DnDBeyond campaign that has that content shared?
yes, they are
If you go to the inventory tab of your character and use the "Add Items" tab, use the filter field to look up Seeker Dart.
You should then be able to add it.
oh, i found what it was from your suggestion - it's "Noncore" so i had to toggle that on
thank you! it's showing up now
Ah there we go!
How do I add supernatural gifts to a character? (Like Hollow One from the Wildemount book) without homebrewing a feat (please tag me whoever responds!)
Shift+enter
you need to homebrew a feat.
When the General Features System is done, support should be added.
Thank you! You're awesome. I am new to Discord. Take care!
aha. no worries
for some reason i cant choose echo knight as a fighter subclass when i get the dropdown menu. i have every source material option checked and im not seeing it
Did you activate Critical Role content in your character settings?
like i said, every source material option is checked off
Can you screenshot it for me, please?
Is this a character in a shared campaign?
@pastel spoke You might need to check your entitlements (purchases) are in sync
If you go here https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
i purchased the content on said device
ok
where?
Do you see this at the top of your page
Can you access either of these pages
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/egtw/character-options-subclasses#EchoKnight
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/fighter#EchoKnight
Your entitlements data is in sync! You should have nothing to worry about, but contact our Support Team if you're having problems accessing your purchased content.
both, the way i saw the subclass in the first place was on the fighter page
after i purchased the content
Can you link me to the character you're trying to add the subclass to?
Doesn't matter if it's not finished or public
You've selected Rune Knight, is that intentional?
this server isnt related to DDB right? nobody here has any direct influence on the site? like unofficial
This is the official D&D Beyond discord server
i picked it yes, just bc it selected when i clicked away from the drop down menu
