Homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet. Is it showing the new one now?
I don't want to annoy anyone but I am really confused about something that may be a lot simpler than my head is making it out to be.
I am having a hard time rolling out stats, particularly height and weight.
I don't understand what it means by
"Roll the listed height modifier dice and add that total to your race's base height. Multiply your height modifier roll by your weight modifier roll and add that total to your race's base weight."
or
"roll for height and add that to the base height. Then you take what you rolled on the height roll and multiply by what you roll on the weight roll. Then you add that total to your base weight."
Which race?
Stone giant
it's only the rolling for the height/weight
I don't understand how thats done
A stone giant is not a playable race, so I don't know where you are seeing this. Likely yours or someone's homebrew. Makes it hard to help, but there is probably some formula listed (like in this picture for the gith in MToF).
Ah, that's my fault, It is homebrew. Thank you for helping me as much as you could
Hi, I am creating a half-elf (Drow) Warlock in DDB, and I am choosing to forgo the Half-elf’s skills versatility and choose the Drow magic instead. So in DDB, I didn’t choose any skills in that step. Later, I chose to use the Charlatan background, which added two skill proficiencies - Deception and Slight of Hand. Isn’t this the same thing? How to do I get my choice to go with Drow Magic to reflect on my DDB character sheet?
If you have access to SCAG (which provided this rule for variant half-elves), you should see a variant half-elf race in the builder called Drow Half-Elf (visible here if you own it or it is being shared with you through Content Sharing: https://www.dndbeyond.com/races/half-elf#DrowHalfElf). If you don't currently have access to this, you can create your own variant using the homebrew tools, and replace the half-elf's Skill Versatility with Drow Magic.
Thanks, I do have access, and I can select it. I just don’t see where to select that I am opting for the magic in lieu of the skills... Am I missing it? Or you don’t actually do that?
If you have your character race set to Drow Half-Elf, you should already only be seeing Drow Magic, and not Skill Versatility. Can you provide a link to the character sheet if this is not the case? The regular URL, not the share link.
Ahh, there is is - I went through and looked at the completed sheet and you are right. Thanks!
That does mean I don’t select any skills in the Skill Proficiencies, correct?
(Shown under Features & Traits > Warlock Features)
Those are from the warlock class, not from the half-elf's Skill Versatility trait. You would still gain proficiencies from your class
Oh, sweet! I haven't played in a while, and am getting back into D&D now. A lot has changed...
thanks for the heads up.. made the homebrew background yesterday and it still havnt updated today.. 😦 I will try to go into edit and see if I dun goofed somewhere.. I am fairly new to homebrewing content 🙂
welp... looks like I just changed the text and not the proficiency 😛
How do you unlock all subclasses for your spellcasters?
Sorry for late reply. I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong then, because I can't see the spell in my spell list when I look at character sheet
so how did critical role make it so you can swap between hybrid and normal form on DDB?
for order of th elycan
like I'm looking at it rn
That's likely hard coded directly into the subclass
and I'm just so confused as to how they did it because there's nothing there besides class feature options saying they did
damn 😔
The free Basic Rules contain one subclass for each class. The rest would need to be purchased, or shared with you in a campaign where content sharing is enabled (and someone else in the group has purchased the subclass).
Or if you’ve got the physical book, you can recreate the subclass for free using the homebrew system.
The spells won’t be added to your Spells tab until you learn or prepare them, following the spellcasting rules for your class.
The background essentially just gives you extra options when you choose your spells.
I'm not seeing them when I go to choose new spells or prepare ones either. I've chosen Quandrix Student and manually added the initiate feat. Made a character with nine levels of wizard to get all the options and none of the spells are listed anywhere. I feel like I'm missing something as I can't even see the extra spells be mentioned when picking the background either.
What level is your character?
And you don’t see any of those spells? Not even Entangle?
Can you share a screenshot?
Oh that's weird
I can see them listed now
Maybe it just needed more time to update?
Or did you do something on your end?
I don’t even have the power to do anything on my end. 😅
But I’m glad it’s working!
Lol thanks
Heads up that my die roller, some character portraits, and some backgrounds have all failed to work since the Strixhaven update went live. Reported it in the Bugs forum on the main site, too, but it's still a thing and it's now starting to impact my gameplay pretty heavily.
First port of call would be to clear browser cache/cookies for issues with images not loading. There is no outage, so it sounds like this is either browser or device related.
OK... did the cache last night, nothing. uninstalled Beyond20, nothing. I am getting the issue on my macbook using chrome. (I did also uninstall chrome). My son is having the issue on a Windows10 device using IE. It does still function on my iPhone and iPad.
Have you cleared cookies?
I flushed everything. I will give another go of things tonight, since I have some time... I'll check back
It would have to be something either browser or device related - whilst it occurred at the time a book released there isn't any way for an issue like this to be tied into a book release.
I'm playing a level 8 grave cleric. Any reason I'm not seeing Divine Strikes? Does it depend on the Domain?
not every Domain has Divine Strikes, most have Potent Spellcasting.
unless you turned on the optional feature, that is
Grave Domain doesn’t have Divine Strikes naturally. You could use the optional class features like Neut says and replace level 8 grave feature Potent Spell casting with “Blessed Strikes”
I had my first DnD session this weekend using the Beyond character sheet. And as a wizard i had done the research about my spells. At level 4 the wizard unlocks 2nd level spells. But my sheet doesnt alllow me to pick 2nd level spells. After some playing around on the website with a new character i saw that my character was lvl4, but the wizard level was still 2 and it had a +2 next to it, which i could change to 4. Is there a way to make the wizard level go up automatically as i level my character?
No, there isn't. This is because mutliclassing is an option in the game so when you gain those levels, they can be spent either in wizard or another class. The system doesn't know how you're going to spend those levels, so it leaves them 'floating' for you to assign
S'all good, we all are at some point
I'm playing a level 12 druid firbolg on paper right now, and I would like to put it into DnD beyond but I can't select the firbolg race. Do I have to buy a book, or should I just use override scores for my stats?
You need to buy the book containing it or just the race piecemeal.
Yeah, you can buy just the race by itself.
Ok, thanks!
It's Volo's if I'm not mistaken.
Or if you’ve got the physical book, you can use it to recreate that race for free using the homebrew tools.
(just don't publish it)
Hey all - fairly new to using D&D beyond and trying to run my first game online - are there any built in tools to control character creation and optional allows/disallows? i.e. rolled stats vs array (no rerolls), source books/content allowed, and other similar options?
You can control what books are shared in your campaign. The rest is up to player trust.
running a game for a bunch of strangers so trust is not built yet lol. I did figure as much though thanks for the response
If you tell someone to use standard array and you see they manually entered abilities, kick them out. No trust.
basically that
If you are the DM of the campaign, and the players are in it, you can see every aspect of their character sheet (and edit it as well). You will be able to see if they have chosen anything you disallow.
yea i seen that i could manage their sheets, just prefer not to tinker with them were possible. I was trying to see if there was a log of stat rerolls for a player who had well above average set
Ask them to roll in front of you. Not on the sheet.
yea going to have to - so used to in person D&D for least last 25 years
I'm about to give a vicious weapon. Do those work fine in DnD Beyond to just add to a character sheet?
I'm gonna assume the +7 damage is not automatically added to the die roller on a crit.
Darn 😕
My player uses DnD Beyond for their rolls, so was hoping it would be easier.
You'll want to create a racial trait for this (typically called Ability Score Increase), then while editing that trait, click Add a Modifier, and give it Modifier Type: Bonus > Modifier Subtype: Wisdom Score > Fixed Value: 2. You can find a fairly comprehensive guide to the homebrew tools here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/76031-demystifying-homebrew-updated-with-feats
It also helps to create a copy of an official race/subclass/etc. that already does what you're looking for (using the official thing as a template) to see how it is already set up. And if you have any further questions, #homebrew is filled with people willing to help. 🙂 (If you can't see that channel, give yourself the appropriate role in #880965682462875679.)
Homebrew edits can take upwards of 15–20 minutes to appear on the character sheet, due to caching. If you've just made this change, it might not appear immediately. You can try to refresh the homebrew on the character sheet by removing and re-adding it, or by toggling the character sheet's Inspiration on and off before reloading the sheet.
I'd recommend asking in #homebrew
This is not an appropriate topic to request help for; this channel is for help using the D&D Beyond website and tools. If there is a barrier to understanding in #homebrew, I recommend attempting to rephrase or explain in a different way. Everyone here tries fairly hard to be helpful
I have a quick question related to class feature creation in DDB: If I want to create a feature from which you can have choices to choose from (such as with Battle Master and its maneuvers), how do I stipulate the amount you can get at certain levels?
You can't create class features as it's not possible to modifier base classes with the homebrew tools
Let me rephrase: Class Archetype. (edit: I expressed myself poorly)
I would suggest copying an existing subclass and seeing how it works
Alright, will do thanks.
Looks for a field called "Class Levels Where Options Known".
You'll need to enter every level where they can choose an option, separated by commas.
If they can make multiple choices at a given level, you add that level multiple times.
So 3,3,7,10 would let them choose two at level 3, one at level 7, and one at level 10.
ahhh ok! That makes total sense! Thank you!
With the Errata changes will the volo content be removed? If so.... Is there anyway to "back it up" so to speak?
Screenshots and print to PDF is really about it.
wait, what errata?
a bunch of stuff, and TCE got errata.
Battlemaster builds doesn't have weapon master in it anymore!
New Sage Advice where they are erratting some troublesome language/cultural depictions, clarifying rules, etc.
On the D&D website here: https://dnd.wizards.com/dndstudioblog/sage-advice-book-updates
homebrew magic item crits on a 19 or 20 how would i add that? is that a modifier or just something to put in the description
also how do i make it a +1
theres so many options
Just put it in the text description. There’s not a modifier for it.
And for this, add a modifier with Type: Bonus, Subtype: Magic, and Fixed Value: 1.
thank you!
Hi. I'm new to DDB. I'm a lil confused on something, related to attacks. Is there a way to have Bless or other melee buffs calculate on my weapon attacks? I'm testing out DDB with a Hexblade/Paladin and I don't see a way to add things like Bless, or bonus damage from things like Booming Blade. Do these all have to be "custom actions"? Is there a tutorial on how to do it right?
Those don’t get added automatically, no
question. When choosing the Custom Lineage as a Race. It dosen't give you all options of feats. Is their a way to enable this feature?
If you're referring to racial feats (feats with a pre-requisite for a particular race), those are by default unavailable RAW because you don't meet the criterion of being that particular race.
If you're referring to other "generic" feats — Do you own them or have access to them on that character via Content Sharing?
Are you sure you own the feats you wish to use?
Was referring to the racial's.. Im still drinking coffee and havent worken up yet. Clearly. Need more coffee.
You should still be able to use those feats (assuming with DM permission) by disabling the option to use prerequisites for feats in the character preferences
But RAW, they are unavailable to be chosen by Custom Lineage
AH, I had that selected. Interesting.
That's the default setting
Curious.. So, Is their a way to ether make a race or change a race in order to have Mark of the Shadow elf but able to take a feat at level 1?
New Campeign im in, DM is allowing us all to take one. Not sure how to edit that in.
Go to your character page, features, feats, manage feats.
Coincidentally, WotC announced yesterday that they’re adding this line to the custom lineage rules, just to make it explicit:
Your race is considered to be a Custom Lineage for any game feature that requires a certain race, such as elf or dwarf.
https://dnd.wizards.com/dndstudioblog/sage-advice-book-updates
That’s more of a #dnd-rules question, but yes.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#DamageRolls
(This channel is for getting technical help with D&D Beyond itself.)
so if I make my own feat with additional spells for a divine soul sorc (like the clockwork and psionic gets).. I have figured out how to add the spell to the feat.. but can I make the spells "Castable" on the character sheet instead of at will? (I hope this makes sense)
I believe there isn't currently a way to do this with feats. For example, other feats that allow you to cast spells with spell slots (e.g. Artificer Initiate) rely on the player simply ticking off the appropriate spell slot when casting in such a way
roger that.. so I should make a homebrew divine soul and add spells there? and then I could do it?
ok I just created a clockwork homebrew and went lookin in their additional spell tables for how it needs to be ticked of - I think I got it now.. but thanks for the heads up on the feat thing 🙂
That is the best way to get the proper functionality, yes
Is DDB having display formatting issues for anyone else? There is a very good chance it's just my browser.
Anything in particular?
the page is loading and all the links are there, it just doesn't show a lot of the layout formatting. And it seems to only be DDB where I am experiencing it. I'll try relogging
works fine in another browser. Must be me. All good 🙂
Probably your beyond20 extension if you use that.
are there any redeem a key codes activate and if so where can I find them?
ah okay.
I haven't looked through them all, but Van Richten's is 20% currently due to the Adventure. https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1130-d-d-adventure-calendar-enjoy-9-days-of-holiday
Oh, good catch. Need to remember to open my calender
I only know because of a discussion on it yesterday :P
Also AI right?
I know that was on for PAX Unplugged, but not sure if that deal is still ongoing.
Good chance of it. I'll diable it until they update again
how long does it take for ticket to be update ?
Tickets get answered in the order that they come in - but I'm pretty sure DnDBeyond doesn't provide a specific timeframe for answering particularly since some issues may require more time to look into.
But you did a good thing to ask here (or on the forums) - if theres bigger issues mods can check with support staff to get further details.
gotcha
That said if it's been more than 3 business days, I'd raise the issue here again.
well it was created saturday so im assuming that doesnt count
Yeah - I'd say Monday is when your clock started ticking down, Potentially with staff at PAX DnDBeyond support might be a bit more constrained as well.
ah ok
I did see the post stating users should be able to see an "upgrade" button soon
not sure if anyone has that new feature?
I think the new upgrade process is being rolled out to new users/accounts first for testing. Folks who have been on DnDBeyond subscription for more than a year I think are still waiting for that feature to be rolled out (something about migrating the data from the old subscription platform to the new one).
But I don't really know much - I'm just a happy user.
ah gotcha
That's my understanding as well. I think new Hero-tier subscribers might already see the option to upgrade, but not yet anyone with pre-existing subscriptions.
Anyone know if there a way to make a homebrew item/feat that gives a max HP bonus yet?
(or if there has been any announcements on progress of the general feature system)
Can't copy tough?
I was hoping for a flat bonus as opposed to a bonus per level. The bonus hit points (without the 'per level') does not seem to work.
Yeah, I don't think anything in the game does that, so probably not coded.
Hmm, maybe the spell Aid?
Aid doesn't have function built doing that
There are temporary max hp bonuses can be applied directly in the character sheet (which is how I typically handle aid), but the hit points for my intended feature are often accidently reset by my players every long rest.
There isn’t currently a modifier that will give just a flat bonus
But there will be (to make Boon of Fortitude work; DMG chapter 7).
Edit: oh dear, somebody better tell Yurei on the forums that their implementation doesn't work. 🥲
Howdy folks! There's a known issue with encounters that may be preventing you from being able to delete them. If you're experiencing this, please try renaming the encounter, and then trying again. If that doesn't help, you will need to raise a Support ticket for the team to remove.
Please use the following form: http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket. Be sure to select in the form that the issue is related to Encounter Builder, include your Username/Nickname and please include the Name(s) of the encounter and the URL(s).
ok so the tiefling is fire prove and can cast hellfire and darkness
how much damage does hellfire do?
They’re resistant to fire damage, not immune.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/combat#DamageResistanceandVulnerability
And hellish rebuke does 2d10 3d10 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/hellish-rebuke
They cast it at 2nd level, so 3d10. 😉
#dnd-rules can help you further, though. This channel is more for technical help with DDB itself.
Is there a way to view older versions of books we bought on dndbeyond? I saw that some content was deleted from some of them after I bought the bundle and would still like access to the content I paid for.
One server I'm on ruled that certain backgrounds which added spells to the spell list instead add them to the prepared spells. Is there a way to have extra prepared spells?
Case in point, Izzit Engineer.
They count as an Errata, so no. WotC officially changed the content, and digital distributors need to match it.
So I should have bought the physical copy cause at any point the content I bought can be deleted? Good to know. Guess I will not buy anymore.
I suppose you should cancel subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max and/or Disney+ then because they change, censor, and delete content all the time while you're at it.
shrug
I don't sub to any of those. Nice strawman
It's literal equivalency. They are digital distributors of content.
But go off, I guess
Do you buy the content individually on there? Like each and every show or movie? No? Well then you have a flawed argument.
flaws aren't the same as a logical fallacy.
Also, you are paying for the license to access digital content. you never owned the books.
Nor do you own the stuff on a streaminf service. you pay for the license to access.
With that, I'm going now.
So you are saying they ripped me off from the start. I paid for it the same as I would pay for a physical book. Could they come and steal my book if I had bought that instead?
Question, For Dread Ambusher via Gloom stalker. Do you do the attack sequence again. Roll to hit Main hand/Offhand using the 1d8 per listed
what?
Dread Ambusher is, first turn of the combat, attack action gets one additional attack which deals an extra 1d8 damage on hit.
Crossbow expert feat. allows you to use a bonus action to attack. Figure- this would apply to that as well
no
it does not, at all, even remotely interact with that
At the start of your first turn of each combat, your walking speed increases by 10 feet, which lasts until the end of that turn. If you take the Attack action on that turn, you can make one additional weapon attack as part of that action. If that attack hits, the target takes an extra 1d8 damage of the weapon's damage type.
Ah okay.
also I guess this shoulda been #dnd-rules lol
I'm sure this is just me being dumb but how do you add a character into a campaign you own?
Do I have to follow my own invite link?
yes.
The cut content is literally all over the internet still. Just save it in a word file
Question
is it possible, in my campaign page where I have links to all my players' character sheet, to change the UI so I'd see their current HP and AC ?
You can vote for that here if it's something you want to see:

They did recently add that ability to the mobile app, ICYMI.
And encounters
Yes, but I don't think anyone noticed the stealth release yet. 🤫
It was announced in the changelog 😛
What, this one? Nobody read that.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/changelog/1134-encounter-beta
It's still a secret until it's in #dnd-social-feeds. 😜
So stop telling people!
Looking for help with content showing up in the DDB app. I purchased Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, but am not having the Artificer class available during character creation. I was under the impression that purchase of TCoE gives access to the class.
Did you purchase the full book (for $29.99) or just the compendium (for $19.99)?
Ah, that's why it wants me to add the $10 thing in Marketplace, even though it says I have already purchased the content.
Yeah, you've purchased the compendium, which is basically the ebook with none of the tool functionality (for those that just want to read the book)
That $10 will upgrade your purchase to the full book with all of the options in the various tools, including Artificer
Sons of b. I thought I was baying the whole sourcebook at a sale price.
Unfortunately not, the most recent sale has already ended
@modest pelican appreciate the help, my friend
Did you buy the $20 version around Cyber Monday? @robust junco
Nov 29th through Dec 5th?
Yes, Nov. 29th
Did you mean to buy the whole book, but picked the compendium instead?
What does this say you purchased? https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
Yeah, it says Compendium, so it's a bit of ignorance on my part not knowing they offer different sourcebook options
The full book should have been on sale at that point. Sounds like you just clicked the wrong option.
You could try contacting customer support. Maybe they fix it for you.
Just make sure to include your DDB username, and the date of purchase.
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
@uneven lantern I'll give them a shout thanks
Sent. Probably tell me there was no sale for the full content at that time, and ask me to buy the creator access for $10...
if i want to make a variant of a monster in CritterDB or change it to fit my setting, can i copy a statblock of a monster from DDB into CritterDB?
There's no export option for DDB homebrew monsters to any system, CritterDB or otherwise.
ok
i was warnd for pinging in mod suport but i dont remember doening that if i did i am sorry it was a mistake
We understand that mistakes happen. the original post was removed because it didn't belong in that channel, so no worries on that. We just ask that you be mindful in the future 🙂
ok thanks for not kiking me me
we wouldn't kick someone for one, simple mistake. We try to be a welcoming community.
you are a welkoming community
did you ever figure it out? I'm having the same issue.
I'd double-check the following:
- The campaign is linked to a channel
- All players have imported their characters into Avrae
- All players have linked their DDB and Discord accounts
You can have everyone run through !tutorial beyond to make sure they've taken the necessary steps.
Can you PM me your ticket number? I can grab and resolve for you right away.
Actually my ticket hunting skills are on point this morning (thank you coffee!) - Have responded to your ticket, enjoy creating your character with all the Tasha's subclasses/features!
Unless there was someone else raising the exact same request for the exact same issue roughly 3.5 hours ago in my ticket queue, yes!
Ha, just got the email.
My man, that is what I'm talking about!
The community support for these services are amazing
Thank you so much!
Making my dnd better every day
So nice to see you guys in the discords. I love the feedback. Right into our games.
Hey thank you. I discovered that my problem was that the dice rolls on the mobile app we’re set to private.
Um, the additional features you get from tasha towards races and class, is that something you can get as an individual purchase or do you have to buy the book to get it or is it some place else I haven't found yet?
I believe you need to own the book.
^ This is correct.
Are the books offered on Amazon by the wizards rpg team the same ones that would give me a code for DnD beyond
So that I have both physical and virtual
I am not aware of anything other than the Essentials Kit providing a code to be used on dndbeyond
To date, only the Essentials Kit has been packaged with a redeemable code to unlock materials on D&D Beyond.
Alright
I never actually redeemed my essentials kit code from like two years ago I should go do that
There you go. 50% off the PHB and a free adventure from the kit
I already own the players hand book lol
Physical
And it dosent help for DnDBeyond the class I always use is in xanthers guide to everything
If you want to use the PHB rules inside DnDBeyond's character creator then you need to own the book on DnDBeyond or use the homebrew tools to create the specific things you need.
You can always buy any subclass or other thing individually.
did not know that very very helpful
time to play storm sorcerer for the rest of my life
Yep! Whatever you spend on those gets credited toward the remaining price of the book itself, too.
So if you spend $2, the book gets $2 cheaper.
Does the storm sorcerer have a different name on DbD Beyond cause im trying to only buy it from the subclasses on xanthers guide to everything but i cant see it
Has anybody else had an issue with digital dice not visablly rolling on a chromebook in the webpage?
never mind found mine, in a different book
how can I look up which books have trinkets besides going through every single one?
tried the search function but besides getting more answers than I'm looking for it doesn't even show everything, such as the horror trinkets are left out
Just the search I'm afraid, which isn't ideal
yeah.. thought so.. damn.. Okay thanks
Many of the monster images on the website don't show for an unknown reason
they've been shown all the time, and one day just stopped
It's very unlikely to be my Internet connection, any ideas ?
Try deleting your site cookies for D&D Beyond. Lack of image loading on the site can sometimes be traced back to bad cookies, and deleting them before refreshing tends to fix the issue.
Thank you
Can you please try clearing your cache and cookies or trying on a different device?
Could someone help me with a login issue?
What's the problem?
i can't seem to use the "sign in with google button"
i click it but nothing happens
it doesn't redirect
Is your adblocker turned on? That can sometimes interfere with it

Can you PM me your DDB username so I can resolve the issue?
late, i deleted all my characters and had to start all over again. i had the beta versions in gsheet so i could use that
I need help on being a dm, this is my first time after playing as a PC for 1 1/2 years, dm me some stuff that I could use to help. I am an amateur voice actor.

oh im sorry im new
No worries! You’ll need to head to #880965682462875679 to get the DM role before you’ll see that anyway.
In order to get the optional ranger rules from Tasha's, do you need to buy the whole book?
Yes, the Tasha's optional class features and customize your origin require the full book itself
Thanks!
So the latest email says "a wintry surprise awaits you ... in the latest version of the mobile app," and the 'get more info' button talks about something else. Any hint on what this may be? I'm trying to decide if I should download the app for whatever this is
Probably better suited to General, however there is a simple Easter egg the devs added to the app for character sheets during the holidays
Let’s just say it pairs well with the Icewind Dale dice. 😉
https://www.dndbeyond.com/claim/dice/frostmaiden
Already had it! 😄 Good to know though, thanks guys
I logged in the app just out of curiosity - the surprise is ||a snow effect on character sheets||
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but if I pre-order something as gift for someone, but they already pre-ordered it, what happens?
hi my name is jesse i run my community based d&d roups while there isnt much players in my community we are active and engaging we just finished the dragon of icespire peak and it expansions we are starting withchlight (secretly making a forge of the gods campiagn for my people) now my question is since i am the only club based in a 100 mile radius of me is there a way i can access the content of the site cause my players really enjoyed using the site i just dont have alot on content on the site like alot of the core books to use for my players (some are not really within driving distance to use what i have on hand so there limited to what i have on the site)
@wintry brook You would need to purchase the content to access it
They won't be able to redeem the gift because they have already purchased it
Thanks for your help Davyd! My quest to get a gift for the DM that has everything continues...
Is there a place on the character sheet to see optional class features, or is it only in the builder?
To be clear, i have Tasha's, i have the features enabled, and i can see them in the character builder
You only see them on the sheet if they’re turned on in the builder, I think
Similar to whichever ASI you pick
Or class feature based on what level you are
Ohhh i see, i was looking at dedicated weapon for monks, but its level two
apparently though, it lets you Use the feature before then, if you click on a weapon. Bug?
For some reason I can't delete some (MY encounters) nothing happens. Any advice?
Are they named?
I believe the current advice is rename them
nope the one remains and if I just rename it, a new encounter pops up
There is a pinned message with instructions.
thank you
i have a question about the players bundle giveaway
You should probably ask it
when start the giveaway and how we know that we win
Entries close at midnight Pacific Time 12/17/21
If you win, you’ll be contacted using the email you provided when you entered.
Does anyone know how to edit the "recovery type" in this section?
I assume this is a magic item. In which case, add however many charges the item should have (just 1 charge if the spell can be cast only once), and beyond that you're out of luck because magic items cannot automatically regain charges on a long rest, nor can spells added to magic items reset on a long rest; you have to do so manually.
ugh that's annoying. thank you! I wonder why they have recovery types listed as part of the thingy if you can't edit it
There is a field for recovery type of the charges (but it does nothing).
sure, but that's in a different section, under additional information
Yep. 🤷
As the team have said on dev updates in the past - the homebrew system was never designed to be used by anyone - its an extension of the tools used to enter official content. There is a lot that just doesn't make sense because it was testing or potential ways to implement things.
gotcha
So, I'm using Emberblade, a homebrew weapon. The thing is, I'm not sure its coded to do some of the basic stuff its supposed to. Is it possible to check the actual effects coded into a piece of homebrew to see if it's actually functioning in Avrae?
Why does Tentacles of the Deeps not get a to hit bonus from bonuses to Spell Attack Bonus?
I would add it to a character and test it
if i use true polymorph to turn into another creature , do i keep my original class?
It's not a spell.
the ability doesn't say it does. When you create the tentacle, you can make a melee spell attack against one creature within 10 feet of it. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 cold damage, and its speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn. When you reach 10th level in this class, the damage increases to 2d8.
They said 'to hit', probably due to a magic item giving them +X to spell attacks (but with spells only).
...er... okay, point, I suppose. (in my defense, I'm tired so I might have misread)
if it's just a flat bonus to spell attacks, sure
if it's a bonus to your spells, then no.
wand of the war mage is a flat bonus to spell attack rolls.
rod of the pact keeper is a bonus to the spell attack rolls (and DCs) of your warlock spells
Wand of the War Mage, giving a flat "You have a bonus to spell attack rolls." should work, as tentacles of the deep is a spell attack roll.
However, it wouldn't benefit from ROTPK, due to it not being a warlock spell.
So yet again i cant figure why i cant add extra subclass spells like the paladin ones that are always prepared and dont count as learned spells
I tried setting levels, doing anything rly
Idk what option am i checking wrong
The way to implement this depends on the class for which you are designing a subclass. If possible, it helps to make a copy of an existing subclass that already does what you aim to do, to see how it has been set up officially. Homebrew edits can also take 15–20 to populate to character sheets after being saved; you can sometimes speed this up by removing the homebrew from the character and adding it again, or by toggling the inspiration button twice and refreshing.
wait is the inspiration thing intended or is that a "turns out doing this makes this happen"
That's been recommended by one of the developers as the fastest ways to force a re-fetch of character data on a refresh
Faster than bumping levels up and back down
aahhhh that's clever
Some recent work has been done to try speeding up the delay of homebrew edits due to caching, though. Removing and re-adding homebrew should* update to the newest version of homebrew (*it might not always, but in my experience, I've seen pretty good results)
oh sorry
Hello! I have a player, when rolling attack rolls of any kind from his character sheet, continually rolls a 4 - over and over again. This has happened in every session he has played in using DDB. Any guidance would be most appreciated.
Sounds like they might by using an extension such as beyond20 that's manipulating the rolls
We are using AboveVTT, though none of the other players are experiencing the same issue.
It's generally discouraged to use extensions while using DDB since by nature they're supposed to interfere with the site's normal function
Do they get the same problem in another browser, or on another device?
We haven’t tried those options, though I’m not sure he has another device to test that particular solution with. AboveVTT is a Chrome extension, so switching that up wouldn’t help. I’ll have him completely sign out of his account and get back in to see if that helps
Question: With the DM subscription (which I have) do my players get to pick dice from the dice I purchase? Would be incentive for me to purchase them
I don't believe dice are shared
Unfortunate.
Yeah, only game content is shared. Dice, themes, etc. are not.
So should the +1 of wand of the war mage be added to Tentacles of the Deeps to hit bonus since it's a spell attack or not?
Hi,there is a small problem. The Spell Flock of Familiars that can Warlock and Wizzard .if you make PC and try to add it. you can not see the spell.
Do you own the content the spell is from?
yes,yes a have
but it ok now i know that you have to Sources Noncore D&D Content to get it
Yes, since it says "+1 bonus to spell attack rolls."
How do make a table in the homebrew creator
Type it out manually (click the <> button).
Does ddb have any help forums for the twitch extension. I have it set up, but I would love to know if there are any more advanced features.
Ayyy what are some unique encounters i could apply to a small village being raided by ice giants during a blizzard?
Maybe a helpful wizard M
?*
coldlight walkers
Oooh is that in TCOE?
quick question - has this feature since been removed from the encounter builder/combat tracker, or is it still subscription only? free user here, not seeing it https://www.dndbeyond.com/changelog/966-monster-dice-rolling-for-the-encounter-builder
Yep! Still there. I assumed it was available for all users, but I’m trying to get confirmation.
If you’re using a homebrew monster, it won’t show rolls unless the creator added them.
I'm currently using monsters from the sourcebooks I own, but that's also good to know
is there a way to set the dice rolls to default to "EVERYONE" when you are the DM. It currently defaults to self and i have to change it each time i load a new page or refresh a page, which actually happens a lot.
Heya there - is there an option to add Spell Scrolls into our inventories, or do we need to add them manually as a custom item?
Spell Scroll (x Level) is the item. You'll have to customize individual entries, or use the Notes section to notate what spells they are
or just use custom items, i guess, but still
Alright no worries - thanks for answering
is there anyway to move characters from one campaign to another. or to put an unassigned character into an ongoing campaign
Use the “join campaign” link - it will prompt you to select an existing character or create a new character for that campaign. I’m not sure if characters already assigned to a campaign can be used in a different campaign. You may need to remove that character from the previous campaign to have it join a different campaign.
Fractal Mascot, from the new Strixhaven book. When they move through creatures and objects, does that mean they phase through them or push past them? If it's the latter does that mean these things can just smash through any non-magical wall or door?
I believe they phase through.
yep, phase through, cause they can theoretically end their turn inside of objects.
It takes 5 (1d10) force damage if it ends its turn inside an object.
Interesting
funnily enough, they don't take damage if they end their turn inside creatures.
so there might be an interaction there...
What?
I asked an innocent question lol
I need to think of ways to increase their potential
Like buff them
Pact of Chain invocations.
Ooooh yeah maybe
What is the fastest way to find a DM/game
start one yourself.
I've never played haha, I couldn't DM lol
sure you can. not all of us have.
But I don't typically wish to for my first time anyways lol
We do also have resources here. You can use the pinned post format to advertise that you're looking for a game in #750812887697588356, or else respond to ads looking for players in #looking-for-players, #looking-for-community, and #paid-looking-for-game. (To view the latter two channels, give yourself the appropriate roles in #880965682462875679)
They’re creatures, and a creature can’t willingly end its turn in another creature’s space.
...true.
how do I make a HB pact boon and its pertaining invocations?
This isn't currently possible using the homebrew tools. You can reasonably emulate the Pact Boon on your own character by creating a homebrew subclass with the Pact Boon "baked in" and related invocation options unlocking at specific levels, or else by creating a series of homebrew feats. And in either case simply leaving PB/invocation options blank when using the homebrew ones instead
is there any good placeholder for having the warlock class be a requisite?
also its a type of pact boon that lets you make magical items of a certain type be of that pact boon
just like pact of the blade
is there anyway to do that?
Unfortunately not... The only prerequisites are those currently available, and from what it sounds like, the effect on specific weapons is likely something that isn't able to be emulated using the homebrew tools. You can customize your specific character's weapons or create homebrew versions that do what you're looking for, or direct your players to do so if this is something you are creating for another user. It should be noted that this type of workaround can't be published for public use
yeah I wasn't planning for it be used for public use its a HB pact boon and a few HB invocations that I found online that my DM is letting me use for my character
If that's the case, there is likely a way to get all of the functionality in some way or another, it may just take some effort. And if you have questions on specifically how to set something up to work, #homebrew is the place 🙂
im new to D&D and tryn to build a character (paly) and only seeing one oath to choose from. does the website not have the other oaths?
is there a modifier that allows me to have invisiblity under specific conditions?
thanks
You need to own the book on DnDBeyond to access other player options.
Otherwise you are limited to what['s available in the SRD and Basic rules
The only content available for free is that from the Basic Rules and certain partnered Critical Role content. For the rest, you'll need to either buy it in the Marketplace (whole books OR individual things piecemeal), have it shared with you in a campaign via Content Sharing, or homebrew it yourself from your physical books
homebrew it yourself, does this mean manually type it into the character info?
There are tools that can be used to build races, subclasses, magic items, spells, feats, monsters, and backgrounds. https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew They can be tricky to use, but we have #homebrew if you need help. You can also create copies of free content to see how those are officially set up, and there are a number of resources on the forum to help users understand the homebrew system. https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/76031-demystifying-homebrew-updated-with-feats and https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/23242-creating-subclasses-guide might both be helpful for you
Also you can just buy a specific subclass a la carte in DnDBeyond.
Whatever you spend will be deducted from the price of the book where that subclass is located if you do eventually buy the book.
a la carte?
Like you can buy just one subclass and not the whole book.
how do i do that?
can anyone help me with this?
Go to the Marketplace, find the book where the class is located and scroll down to see all the different purchase options.
:V
Not really. You could set this up as an action if desired, probably with an activation type of 'Special' if it happens under specific conditions. But the Gloom Stalker ranger's Umbral Sight, for instance, doesn't even do this.
And yes, as mentioned previously, this is the sort of question to take to #homebrew
oh thats interesting ok thanks
true true
cool found it, just to be sure...buying a subclass or multiple ones, this also unlocks all its spells/anything tied to that subclass?
It only unlocks the subclass - not-SRD/Basic spells would be a separate purchase I believe.
But all the features of the subclass would be unlocked.
Hm
If a subclass has, say, domain spells. Does purchasing the subclass give you access to those spells
I assume no but figure I'd ask
No, I believe DyingNoob is right; any attached non-SRD/Basic Rules spells would not be automatically unlocked. There are a plethora of exceptions to this, such as if a magic item gives access to a creature (see the gold canary figurine of wondrous power)
This is actually why, for example, the Alchemist artificer spell list in practice contains both Melf's acid arrow and the SRD acid arrow
Hey Folks, quick question... The Calling Card cantrip... has it been removed? I cant find mention of it anywhere, like it never existed.
Never heard of it. Is it a homebrew spell?
No such cantrip exists.
@edgy oriole this was a spell I picked for my character... the DnDBeyond sheet would not update the damage when I hit 5th level. (This one and Mind Sliver) so I deleted them, and put it back... except I could find it again.
That's homebrew.
Maybe it was homebrew
See how it has "Version:"
Also, you do not need to remove a spell for the sheet to update it when you level up.
(Also at the bottom it would say At Higher Levels.)
Not for cantrips.
It does for canfrips
It does not.
Swore it did what
Never has. Only leveled spells have "At Higher Levels". Cantrips just have a description. No reason for it.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
I figured as much, probably a glitch... but for whatever reason, it didn't that time. Mind Sliver didn't either. But that corrected itself
Anyway, here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/10772-calling-card I found it in the homebrew section.
None the less, thanks for the feedback folks... wasn't expecting folks to be so helpful. So I was just putting my concern out in the nether. Glad I tried. Thanks.
Since it disappeared for you, what probably happened was that you had access to it due to content sharing (all homebrew collections are automatically shared between all characters in the same campaign); and then you lost access to it (the campaign disbanded, character removed, spell removed from the person's collection, etc.) - this doesn't remove it from characters who already have it until they remove it themselves, at which point it stops being an option for the character. Same with any content being shared.
Got a question and don’t know if this is the right locale for it or not. But do all new books (physical copies) come with the code for half off the digital on dnd beyond
They do not, I'm afraid. There is a 50% off coupon for the Player's Handbook in the Essentials Kit box, but iirc that is the only one
Thanks
Is it possible to create a homebrew non-magical item?
Nope. Best you can do is make a custom item directly on the character sheet.
Not at the moment, no
Hey so... I'm using a mobile device to design a race, and everything was going pretty smoothly until I tried to add a variant. For some reason, it won't let me add racial traits.
Anyone know what to do?
I've come across this, can you put your device into landscape mode?
Yeah, but then my keyboard fills the screen...
Hm
Honestly I don't think the homebrew tools are designed for mobile - they were intended for DnDBeyond staff to add material and haven't really been updated for general use.
Halfwing did say that like, yesterday
Oof
I know the devs are aware of the limitations of the homebrew tools but the priority right now is the General Features updates.
oh look there's the star of the show
Don't believe it was me, but I recall somebody saying it. But yeah, homebrew tools just really aren't designed for mobile use. Landscape mode can work on a large enough device
Alright. Thanks fellas. I'll just have to use my computer when I get home then.
Just turn it landscape to get the button to show, then you can turn it back right after.
Pretty sure something something Homebrew tools is something I would have said. But yes, the toolset is effectively the same tools we use for the official content, with some restrictions in place to avoid major issues. And The original data entry tools were never designed for mobile (as it was for the teams to use - and they'd all be on laptops/desktops).
Can you make a copy of your own homebrew?
Yes. Well... Your homebrew creations. Not other homebrew that you've added to your collection
How would you copy it?
When you create a new piece of homebrew, rather than choosing the "Create from Scratch" button, find your homebrew in the "Use an existing ___ as a template" drop-down and click the "Create" button beneath it
Does that work for subclasses, because when I do that, i only see the official subclasses, and none of my homebrew.
And this is homebrew that you've created yourself? 🤔
Yes
Hmm. I've never seen this issue before. Can you post a link to one of your pieces of homebrew that you're trying to use as a template?
so i've added racial bonuses to my homebrew race but they aren't showing up, not sure why
could anyone assist me w/ that?
Any edits to homebrew can take 15–20 minutes to appear on the character sheet, due to caching. You can try a few steps to speed this up (usually): remove the homebrew from a character and re-add it (the best method as of right now), or toggle the character sheet inspiration on and back off before refreshing the sheet. Do also make sure that you've clicked Save from the main part of the homebrew, too
i've done the save stuff, but thank you
i'll try to speed it up
much appreciated!!
Its a private homebrew, could that be the issue?
i tried what you said and none of those alternatives sped it up. just to make sure i've done everything right, is this adding up to you? @wanton shard
i hit save there and then hit save on the main page again multiple times just to make sure i had i saved.
Looks right
Yes, that all looks fine. The tricks I mentioned might not be 100% perfect, so it's possible that the cache issue will resolve with time. Just checking, though: Have you overridden the character's Dexterity score at all? Or is it being influenced by something with a fixed value?
to make things easier i used this to add the ability score increase before, but i wanted to do it the right way which is why i'm trying to add it through the race now
Try leaving that field blank, rather than adding a 0?
besides that though, i haven't done anything to change the scores at all
alright, will do
although i also tried to add 2 languages to my character and that hasn't updated either
so i'm assuming it's a cache issue
Could be, then
Hmm... Not sure I've ever noticed this before, but I'm also unable to use my homebrew subclasses as a template... Though I've likely never tried to copy one of my own subclasses before. Only things like spells, magic items, feats, etc... I'll ask behind the scenes whether this has always been the case, and get back to you if I learn more
Possibly? Although at least part of it is server-side caching, I believe
Thank you
also i noticed for unarmored defense that i'm getting the necessary bonuses from everything except my constitution
do you know why? @wanton shard
unless i'm reading it wrong
Isn't the unarmored bonus your CON modifier?
Yes, the text of Unarmored Defense reads:
While you are not wearing any armor, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Constitution modifier. You can use a shield and still gain this benefit.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/barbarian#UnarmoredDefense-52
on the bright side my homebrew stuff updated and everything is working as it should
Never been able to copy a homebrew subclass for as long as I remember. 🤷
I’m not surprised. I remembered a few minutes ago that UA subclasses were the only UA you couldn’t use as a template too
Just got confirmation that monster rolling is still in alpha, which means it is subscribers-only for now.
ah gotcha, thanks!
How do you access Beyond 20
DnDBeyond does not develop or support Beyond20. For support contact the developer.
Also Beyond20 can interfere with normal DnDBeyond functionality so if asking for DnDBeyond support you may be asked to disable Beyond20 to troubleshoot.
hi
is this the place I can sask stupid newb questions?
I dont want to fill the chaty with garbage others dont want to read
but have bever used this before
This channel is for getting help with the D&D Beyond website/tools
You want #dnd-discussion for asking questions about D&D
ugh..... i mean about how to use the dischord stuff.
there probabvly is a description of the channels somewhere
i must have cpompletely missed it
thankls for you patience guys.
Good morning ... drop downs are acting strangely this morning for me (i.e. in character builder) on the DDB web version. Specifically, the drop-options will briefly appear then close before one can be selected. I'm using Chrome ... any settings/stupid user fixes I should try first to resolve.
Turn any extensions off, then try it in private browsing.
@opal pelican ... same when Incognito. All extentions are off (except Office, Windows 10, and WalkMe) which are admin controlled.
Strange. What about other browsers?
... had the same thought ... Same in Edge
(on the plus side, I know that Edge is installed - lol)
Seems to have been mouse related - resolved.
Hey where do I go if I'm interested in playing but have never played and don't know where to start
Welcome! There's a bunch of helpful links pinned in #dnd-discussion that can show you the basics, or you can try to find a beginner-friendly game in #looking-for-players.
Oki thank you
So Strixaven Initiate states that the spell that you get can be cast with any spell slot, yet it does not show up in your higher leveled spells
"You can cast the chosen 1st-level spell without a spell slot, and you must finish a long rest before you can cast it in this way again. You can also cast the spell using any spell slots you have."
That's intentional, based on user feedback. However, you can make a homebrew copy of that feat and adjust it accordingly if you prefer otherwise.
All my characters with custom portraits have lost their pics and when I try to reupload it, it just goes blank?
It's an issue with your browser cookies. If you go to your browser settings and clear them, it should reset it and fix the issue
Seems to have worked, thanks 🙂
No problem!
Is there a way to edit your character sheet so it appears 'You are vulnerable to Charm' similar to how Half-Elves/Elves have 'resistance' against Charm effects, etc. etc.
you mean having disadvantage, similar to how the elvish have advantage?
I suppose so, yeah
I have an artificer/fighter https://ddb.ac/characters/64191321/ZJ5ERG I was playing around with some things with in it and the attack on the pistol dropped by 1 and I'm a little confused as to why.
Battlesmith - battle ready gives me +4 from int, proficiency gives +3, repeating shot +1 and then archer fighting style from fighter gives +2. which is 10, but it is only showing as +9
You're not attuned to the Pistol. You need to attune to it for the infusion to be in effect
thanks, such a rookie mistake
Is it possible to make a homebrew Item give the use access to a spell ?
casting the spell through the users spell slots and not charges
You can attach a spell, but not one that uses spell slots.
Generally speaking, the homebrew system is built to facilitate the official rules. If no official item has ever done the thing you want, it might not always be possible.
ok, thanx
Weird question, has anyone ever seen this cantrip in their spell list? I can't seem to Google it or Search for it anywhere on DnDBeyond - it appears on my druid's spell list as an option. The druid has a homebrew subclass that tweaks Circle of Wildfire's spell list but this is very much not part of it
Don't know if it's from a strange non-core sourcebook or something
Probably a homebrew spell in your campaign.
It has "Version:" which means it's homebrew.
Even if it's my campaign and it's not in my homebrew collection? I've assumed it's a homebrew or something as it has grammar errors and it's just weird
It's one of your players'.
So homebrew options are shared even if it's someone else's, not in my collection, and if I'm the DM of the campaign?
Yep, all participants of the campaign have their homebrew collections pooled against their will.
I never knew! Cheers for the help guys
There is a suggestion here for giving the DM more control over whose homebrew gets shared. You can give it a vote and share your thoughts if that's something you'd like to see.

I am unable to download pdfs of character sheets; I keep getting a "Server Failed" notification and trying to open the provided link takes me to this
Homebrew?
Try in a different browser or clear your cache
Hey, I’m looking at the magical secrets for bards and I’m trying to take Vortex Warp and it isn’t appearing
Do you own the spell?
I bought them yeah
Hey! I'm trying to build a Drakewarden Ranger's spell list. I haven't learned any spells, but it says that I have 1/3 known spells already. Is this due to a class feature taking up a spell or a glitch? I would appreciate any help.
What does it say you know?
If you scroll down it should show you what spell you know
Like here
Shows I learned Absorb Elements.
It currently says I know 0 spells, the only ones on the character sheet are those from class features, but I didn't think those counted towards the Ranger spell list
That shows you know hunters mark.
Right, but that's from the Favored Foe class feature which says it shouldn't count against the ranger spells I know
That's not how favored foe works. That's UA or homebrew.
That's the UA version, unsupported by default, which you likely added to your collection from the Homebrew section. That could be what's causing the issue for your spells here
huh. I haven't added any UA/homebrew classes for this? I added this after I bought the classes from fizban's
You had to have.
Could have been an accident from the past, but the feature is certainly not what's official
I enabled alternative feats in the feature manager, if that helps
Or this is like a year old character who is using the UA ranger that hasn't been supported in a long time.
Yes, you may have picked up a homebrew OCF which you have activated now
Could be a very old character still using archived UA, I suppose
@hardy glacier Favored foe doesn't teach you Hunter's Mark anymore. The official ranger that's in Tasha's doesn't work that way anymore.
It should look like this:
that's extremely weird oof - I created the character/added the class after buying fizban's but I'll remove/re-add the class
That's the correct optional feature from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything.
Thanks so much! It seems to be working now!
Yay!
I just realized one of my characters works normally
Hi Reuben! Let's pick up the conversation here.
I'll go through the list, I have 17
Okay - so it sounds like some of the characters are working correctly. That's a good sign.
Literally the only one that's broken is the only one I want to use
Hmmm. That is very odd. Maybe try the steps outlined here: https://support.dndbeyond.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041966593-Help-I-can-t-view-my-Character-Sheet-
Basically you're going to force your browser (and the things that connect you to the internet) to start without any "cache" (saved data used to help things feel faster) about the DnDBeyond site.
I've done everything in on that page except restart the modem
No change
I can do the last step because I have family who want to use the internet for stuff
No worries - that modem reset step is more of "clean all the things" and probably shouldn't impact things
Also, even on my phone with mobile data or wifi it still gives me an error
So thats fun
And you've tried accessing this character sheet with a different web browser... ah yeah, mobile browser.
Idea - What if I copy the character and try to access that one...
It's worth a shot. I'd say at this point it's time to submit a ticket to DnDBeyond staff to look at things from the backend
https://support.dndbeyond.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=602788
The app still lets me look at the character but I want to edit it
Interesting.
Anyway that's all the help I can provide, seeing as I'm not DnDBeyond staff...
Good luck and I hope they can get everything squared away for you!
Hi, I'm trying to make a custom weapon on Beyond, I've figured out most of the basic things but I can't seem to find out how to make it roll more than one damage die. I'm pretty inexperienced so help is appreciated! Thanks
I don't believe there is a way to make a weapon roll more than one damage die at a time.
What you could do is on your sheet create a custom attack that does the other damage type and roll though.
Sucks, thanks anyways though.
yeah
doing something like 1d8+2d6, or 2d6+2d8, isn't possible natively
From the forums/articles, you can tap on a user's name to bring up their profile, then hit the "Send Private Message" button. Alternatively, you can bring out the mobile menu by pressing the button in the top right, and then should see a chat bubble icon next to your avatar; pressing that brings you to your Private Messages page, where you can create a new message or respond to existing onces.
Ahhh, are you talking about the app? I apologize. There isn't currently in-app messaging. This is all on the mobile website
back here again to ask for help, i still need help on how to make my custom weapon have two damage die
..i uhh think i figured it out..???
Are you trying to give the weapon 2d6 bludgeoning damage?
You're not dumb, the tools are just quite complex and not that intuitive. Don't be harsh on yourself. Glad you got it sorted
In the extra tab on a charter sheet I know there is extra for a all the summons and battle smith stuff is there one for necromancy wizards or going to add one for necromancy wizard
You can add any stat block you can find to the sheet.
star map currently gives two versions of guiding bolt, is this a bug or intended?
One's for using the star map. The other is for casting regularly since it's added to your spell list
I’m making a fighter subclass which gives the unarmed fighter style, do I need to create it from scratch by making the separate actions or is there an easier way of doing it?
It’s an additional one you get with the subclass at a later level
Similar to champion
hmm, you could look at how champion did it.
the only other workaround would be to simply tell the player to take fighting initiate at the correct level
Yeah i had to make it manually with custom actions as that’s how champion did it
You have any idea why this comes up as being similar to circle of spores AND not meeting the requirements for a fighter subclass?
sorry that would be a question for Ddb staff, hope they see this soon
You have to save from the main subclass pages not any of the sub pages to fix that
Okay, I've made my subclass, and then this thing comes up.
This Subclass cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons:
This homebrew Subclass has data mapped to it that is licensed content or private homebrew. This typically occurs when licensed or private homebrew spells are linked to the Subclass.
When it means 'data mapped' does it mean links? Why does it care about links to internal data?
It means things such as spells that are attached to it. But if you don't intend to publish it, you can ignore the warning. You can still use it yourself, and it will still be shared in any of your campaigns.
So just delete the links and it'll be cool?
It's not hyperlinks; it's something like a subclass spell (for example).
Well, internal links. Like where you can hover over a spell and it brings up the description.
I think those are fine.
Now I'm just confused. Being able to cast Find Steed/Find Greater Steed is pretty vital for the subclass.
Find Steed is fine because it is in the Basic Rules. Find Greater Steed is from XGE.
The requirement seems a bit rediculous -_-
🤷
You can still use it, just not publish it.
it's to prevent you from being able to take content that is not intended to be free and making it free for others when you publish. as was stated before, you can still use it personally for your games and share it with your campaigns without publishing.
Question, is anyone having problems with sharing characters? It says it can’t authenticate when I try to share one with my friend
But how does subclass XYZ being able to cast Find Greater Steed change anything when base Paladins can do it?
It's a prepared spell, not permanent.
If the spell isn't in the SRD or Basic Rules, you can not publish it. Now what Wizards of the Coast does with their material can be different. But unless you have a license with WoTC that allows you to publish that spell, then you're stuck with not-publishing it.
Read the OGL
Can you clarify but what you mean by sharing? Do you mean providing a publicly available view of the character sheet or by assigning a created character inside a DnDBeyond campaign? Or something else?
Okay so then they should just be able to browse and see the character sheet and most of the details (I believe the notes section is hidden to everyone but the character owner). They can't use dice rolling or other features unless the character has been assigned inside a campaign to that user's DnDBeyond account though.
im trying to make a spell with spell scaling range but im not sure if that's an option?
like: casting this spell at higher levels increases its range by 5ft per level
depend on the base range of the spell
an dices
@queen mural what makes this spell btw?
There is no way to make the range scale at the moment. I think it's being worked on, because there is finally an official spell that does have a scaling range.
edit: Yeah, vortex warp and wither and bloom from Strixhaven, as per the support thread.
alright, cheers
the effect i mean
for some reason i cant make a custom "cone" action in the char sheet on dnd beyond site?
where do you set character sheet to "public" or shareable?
Either on the beginning page to make your character at the bottom (same page as your name), or the preferences page on the char sheet
Lemme get screenshots
OK, so my character is "public" but the shareable link doesn't work. do I need to modify this link to make it work?
What do you mean by that exactly?
If you're looking to have others edit it, that's not currently possible
The link is missing the protocol, and not every system recognizes that as a link (Discord in particular). Just add the http:// to it.
Talking to them via DM's, seems they're getting an authentication error. Beyond20's disabled and I'm suggesting a cache clear atm
Does the share url work for other people? Is it working on another device or browser?
It should look like this. You probably filled in the area where it says "Override Score". That should be blank.
Oh
You don't fill those boxes in normally.
So how do I make any?
what?
what do you mean how do you make any?
did you select an ability score generation method?
@dense prism you just fill out the top part then you're done.
Like I did here.
I set it to manual and entered in the scores I rolled.
DnD beyond does the rest of the math for you.
It still just changes to three
Post a screenshot.
Idk what to screen shot. Since I don't understand this I'm probably going to return it. Thanks for trying to help though.
A link to the character will probably show the issue.
Thorn whip is a d20 + what to hit?
Your spell attack bonus.
Probably if you're level 1 with 16 or 17 wisdom and a druid.
Anyone know how to change creature type from humanoid when creating a custom race?
Does it actually show up anywhere.
Not that I can see - I’m guessing I need to add a modifier, but not sure what category it would be
Nope.
Look at the fairy race. It just has a trait that says "You are fey". There is no modifier.
Ok, thanks!
Is there a way to play a campaign without making my own?
By being a player instead of DM, I suppose.
So I am starting a campaign and using the website to DM with my players also making accounts so we can use it. For some reason, no one can use my sourcebooks even though I have the high tier subscription. Am I doing something wrong?
Is it Master tier and have you enabled content sharing?
Yes and I don’t think so? How do I do that?
In the campaign, there's a button.
In the encounter builder, once initiative has been set and the encounter is set to run, is there a way to customize names of non-PC units? It would be much easier to identify units by name instead of letters
how do you change spells for clockwork soul?
@pure musk There is currently not a way to replace the Sorcerer CS, AM, or even the one for DS spells unless you make a homebrew copy and make a complicated work around.
How do i make it in dnd homebrew?
Go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-subclass
Then pick Sorcerer and Clockwork Soul and click Create.
Then find where the spells are added, and change the ones you need to change. It's rough but doable.
I went to look for something I saw on the forums a while back, something about the Level Divisor field. That's something I've not implemented in the one's I've made. But I got distracted and responding to homebrew races. @onyx wasp is correct. Just read the Rules As Written like a dozen times until you know exactly what you need to replicate in homebrew, make the ten changes. I'd add a note to the Description saying Select the appropriate spell from the list. You can change it when you level up passed that level (because it makes you select each of the spells at character level 1).
Name it Clockwork Soul (selectable spells). Done
Oh look I got distracted from homebrew races. Argh
Sorry but i don't know where else to put this. Would anybody would be able help me with basics roll20 as a player? thx you in advance
This channel is for help with D&D Beyond. You could try asking in #dnd-discussion, though.
Hey yall, im trying to update my subscription from Hero to Master, it is only letting me cancel my subscription or change my billing information. How do i work with this?
nvm it worked on the mobile app
How do I change the spells I get as my psionic spells when playing aberrant mind sorcerer?
I can’t find the spot on the character sheet
You can't - you need to make a copy of Aberrant Mind, change the spells, and use the changed subclass.
I've just got a question how long does it take for a DM to respond to #750812887697588356 I just joined thats why
Do you know if they’re working on adding it in?
It’s a pain to change things manually each time
at least it's only per level up
Your post stays up for a week. DMs will respond as they look at them
ok thanks
Anyone know how to deal with this?
The Beyond20 is my problem
I have no clue to what it's asking me here
Beyond20 isn't endorsed by DnD Beyond
By whom then?
Neither Roll20 or DnD Beyond far as I know
So...Until this person is announced, im stuck not seeing my dice roll when calling out their ability(s)?
You could disable the extension. This is why D&D Beyond recommends against using third party apps and extensions that modify DDB
How do I do that?
Google "disable Chrome extension". That should give you the clearest steps
I cannot delete my saved encounters from the encounter builder beta for some reason. How do I get it to work
try naming them? there was a known issue that having un-named encounters prevented them from being deleted.
I will give that a try
I own everything content wise on the store and have content shared in a campaign with my players for some time now.
however were doing a 1 shot for new years and one of my players dosnt have any of the shared content when theyre making a character. like none of the races or anything is there its basic dnd beyond
do they need to create a character through the campaign itself?
content sharing must be done with a character in the campaign. if you send them the invite link they can attach to it and make the character within the campaign to see all of the options you are sharing
Beyond 20 requires you to open the Features and Traits section of your character sheet before it will work. That pop-up is just telling you to do that. You will also need the roll 20 campaign open and logged in before it will work.
Thank you
Hi, another question about custom weapons, where and how can I change the original damage die?
You can't make a custom weapon.
The best you can do is make a custom action with the dice of your choice.
Can Anyone Help With Homebrew I Have Added a Modifier To a specific Race but its not Showing on The character Sheet When i try to Create the Character
How long ago did you add the modifier? Sometimes homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes before they show up on your character sheet.
Please don't publish unfinished content...
You can't lol, which is why.
Crap
Yeah they recommend not publishing homebrew until it's been thoroughly tested/vetted. Because once published, it's very hard to remove.
Because people can add it to their homebrew collections and DnDBeyond is obviously not wanting to "surprise" remove people's things without a really good cause.
Ah! I gotcha
@uneven lantern Okay its a time thing got you
So in short the mods will apply over time
If it takes more than 15 mins, try refreshing the sheet. If that doesn't work, remove and re-add the homebrew to the sheet.
I’m starting over with my Homebrew
There's a channel for that here somewhere.
#homebrew which can be grabbed via #880965682462875679
I got a question
What is it?
When U roll a critical hit what's stronger a 2d12 or a 4d6?
What you roll for a crit depends on what the original dice being rolled were, but if you're simply asking what the difference between the two die rolls you mentioned are, they should have more or less the same average
I C
The only reason Y I'm asking is when I make my character I need 2 figure out what is the best 2 handed weapon 2 use a great sword or a great ax?
You won't always be making critical hits, so if you're aiming to be dealing more damage you should go for the one that deals a d12
I C. And that's 4 every character I make?
Even if that character isn't a barbarian?
Usually you're doing just 1d12, so yes, that's always more damage, but you don't need to have the highest damage weapon possible with every character. Most non barbarians/low strength characters won't have the weapon proficiency needed to use it anyway
So U're saying it's 2 do a d12 every single time, right?
I'm not sure what you're asking me
I'm asking is it better 2 do a d12 over a 2d6 every time?
HELP! The site says "Character not ready! it is missing either a Race, Class or Ability Scores." but race and class are done Ability Scores are done for me. What am I missing?
The difference is negligible between 1d12 and 2d6. There's probably something on the internet that explores the mathematics of it if you really want to get technical. This channel is for help with the dndbeyond website and your question is more d&d mechanics.
Try refreshing. If you play with levels up and down without refreshing or going to your character sheet and back, it can be flaky.
..??? I made one with the homebrewer?
Yeah you totally can
a magic item, you mean
a magic item... of a weapon in the weapon tables
you can't make new weapons
I don't believe you can change the default damage dice of any weapon you have to use as a base. I've found making a wonderous item with an accompanying feat can provide the necessary text and buttons to replicate non-standard weapons.
You can, however
Change the weapon name and properties to mimic another weapon you want
You can also add custom actions on the character sheet to create any special damage/changed damage for weapons.
the Master Subscription say that you can Share unlocked content with other players, does that also count to homebrew?
homebrew doesn't need a subscription.
it's automagically shared even if content share isn't on
ok
Hi, quick question, when making homebrew subclasses, is there a way to make it consume certain points? Like a Monk's ki points?
There isn't. Even the official Four Elements monk subclass has its spells on the sheet as "at will" and you have to manually remove ki points. See also: channel divinity, battle master maneuvers, divine smite, ...
aegh, sucks.
Is there a way to have someone else be a DM as well as the main person
No, D&D Beyond is setup for only one person to be the DM of a campaign.
I am making a character on ddb and I took variant human, but it only provides two options for the feat: grappler and firearms specialist.
Anyone know how to access the other feats?
Buy them. PHB has a lot.
By buying them.
Others are mostly in Xanathar's and Tasha's.
I have the phb?
Idk, do you?
How do you know?
because I can access it and read it on ddb
ah that must be it.
yeah I think it is. Thanks for the help.
You can only use shared material if you make a character in the campaign that's using the shared content.
I see
HELP! The site says "Character not ready! it is missing either a Race, Class or Ability Scores." but race and class are done and Ability Scores are done for me. What am I missing?
Can you provide a link to the character?
Uh... How do I provide a link?
Copy and paste the link.
You can copy the link from any page in the character builder
You mean an address bar link?
Choose a generation method.
That did it. Thank you.
Next: how do I participate in a campaign? I can make them but I can't do anything else.
DnDBeyond campaigns are currently just a way to organize characters and share content (if someone has a master tier subscription and the DM/owner of the campaign enables content sharing). To start playing a game you need to find a group of people to play with. Someone will need to be the Dungeon Master (DM) who helps set the story, decides what rules are in play, decides what dice rolls are needed and when, and helps the game move along. Everyone else plays a character and together work together with the DM to tell a fun shared story.
Not even sure if this is the right place to ask this. Got gifted sourcebooks from family for Christmas, but i already have some of them. Are those codes just useless/wasted money, or will they create a credit to the account or something for sourcebooks i already have?
They will not create a credit and cannot be exchanged on the site. We recommend you either find someone to pass the gift on to, or see if you can find anyone else in the same position you are in who may trade a code with you.
Oof. Alright. Thanks for your help
Is their anyway to tell what books someone has shared with you other than going through every book and seeing which ones are shared
nope
how do i add +2 intiative from minor Guardian property?
Give it a modifier with Type: Bonus, Subtype: Initiative, and Fixed Value: 2.
Am I doing something wrong or is DDB just not calculating that extra +1 from my infusion?
Attunement.
derp. Didn't even think about that because it didn't require me to attune to get it for the dart - big thank
What channel should I move it to then
This channel is for getting help using the D&D Beyond website, app, and tools
You want #dm-discussion
I don't have access to that
If you can't see that channel, you'll need to go to #880965682462875679 and select the appropriate DM role
I'm not a dm
Your question sounds like a question a DM would ask
If you're not a DM, you want #dnd-discussion
Kk
Either way, this is not the appropriate channel for your question
It's handled, don't worry
any1 mind helping me on making a custom action cone attack in character page??
What part do you need help with?
for some reason i cant get it to show a cone even tho i have selected it
Actions don't show area-of-effect icons. 🤷
Nope.
ah well nvm i just created a homebrew already aoe icons would be a nice thing for custom actions tho TT
thanks for replying
Is there an easy way to homebrew the Drakewarden's Drake companion? Because it seems to me like, because of the PB-scaling, some fields (its HP, AC, and Hit Dice) can't be filled correctly using the homebrew tools, right?
There isn't a way to make one that automatically updates.
And I also can't put "14 + your proficiency bonus" as a value in the AC box, for example, right?
Precisely.
Okay, thanks
So... No true way to homebrew it with the tools at our disposal as of now
You would have to manually edit it, yeah.
Can I share purchased dice w/ a campaign?
No
Cool.
How do I remove my old character from my server? I tried to load a new one and all my checks come as the older one
avrae? #ddb-avrae-help and also just use !character (nameofcharacter) to change your active character between the current imported ones
Just ran my first session on DDB last night. All the PCs & Encounters were part of the Campaign. We noticed that rolls were really slow and that one PCs rolls weren't making it to the gamelog as we might expect. Has anyone had experiences with this? What helps? What might we be doing wrong? Thx!
The slow rolls may have been due to a lack of hardware acceleration, which is a relatively common issue. I'm not sure which browser they might have been using, but if it was Chrome, they can visit the advanced settings (chrome://settings/system) and toggle on the "Use hardware acceleration when available" option.
As for rolls not appearing in the game log: Did the user have any browser extensions that might be interfering? Certain extensions (such as Beyond20, AboveVTT, ad-blockers, VPNs, etc.) may cause D&D Beyond to not function normally, and this can be avoided by disabling all extensions
I'll drop this to my players and check my own settings. Thank you!!!
They might also want to check their dice roll settings to ensure their rolls are sent to Everyone by default. If it's sent to Self, no one else will see them.
They can change their default setting at the top of the game log.
When I try to buy the subscription on DNDBeyond, the card always declines, master or hero. I bought the Monster Manual just to try the card and it worked so I know the card works. I am in Singapore by the way.
There was a question like this on the DNDBeyond Support Website, but it's a year old with no answers, I have also asked but have not recieved any responses.
What exactly happens when it’s declined? Is there an error message?
Bottom of the screen, red box says "Card Declined" disappears after a few seconds
wait ive got an idea
ill try and purchase it on my phone
alright it worked, problem solved
So for making a custom attack, how do I set a secondary con save for a secondary effect of the attack, it;s a to hit that deals 3d8 acid, but then they must make a consave so that they are not blinded, I've got everything but the blinded part setup but in testing if they pass the save they take no damage instead of just avoiding being blinded, I'm pretty new to this so any help is greatly appreciated
It's a ranged attack that deals 3d8 with a +6 to hit, and then has a con save to see if the target is blinded Realized I wasn't super clear with how I was saying the first part
Copy Ray of Sickness.
It works that same way.
Just change the damage dice, damage type and save from poison to blind.
You're trying to do two things, so you should create two things. One is the attack and damage roll, another is the saving throw.
Oh, you can't have it as a single action if that's what you're doing.
I see thankyou for the insight I shall do that
it works now thanks
what sourcebook is the sorcerer subclass shadow magic from?
Xanathar's Guide to Everything

Originally in ERFTLW, but then it was reprinted in TCOE.

Is there a way to report an individual encounter that appears corrupted and won't delete? e.g. trying to delete failed and the created time stamp is January 1, 1970.
There’s a known issue with deleting unnamed encounters. If yours doesn’t have a name, you can give it one and try again.
Is there an app for PC like how there is for mobile
I’m afraid not
Hey! My DM gave me my sheet and at Proficiency bonus I have +3 but on D&DB I have +2. Anyway to fix this or am I doing something wrong?
make sure your character is at the proper level. proficiency bonus is based on character level.
