If you go to this page, does it say your account entitlements are in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
And the character you’re editing is assigned to the campaign that’s sharing that content?
yes and yes to all your other questions that you're going to ask as well 🙂
OK shoot
How long ago did you add them to that campaign?
Just a few minutes
It may be that the system just hasn’t recognized the addition yet.
If anything can be done to speed it along, it will be in that account entitlements section.
So you might keep an eye out there.
You might also try signing out and back in. Sometimes that triggers a few background processes, like the entitlements sync.
But whether or not it would do anything in this specific situation, I’m not sure.
Try update the character's name (any sort of change) to refresh the hard cahce which in turn "should" resync the campaign and thus grant sharing content
OK will try for that thanks 🙂
I believe so, yes.
All these magic items use that, and that seems to be the general theme of them:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items?filter-type=0&filter-effect-type=1&filter-effect-subtype=848
Yeah, I’d assume it only works with a single stat.
So to do all stats, you’d need six of those.
Yeah, generally speaking, the homebrew system is built to facilitate the official rules.
So if you’re trying to create an effect that hasn’t ever been done officially, it doesn’t always work out.
Right
But if there wasn’t ever an official item that did that, they probably never added that in.
I was modifying my players' character sheets on D&D Beyond when I suddenly got an API error around 10 minutes ago
since then the rest of the site seems functional but whenever I try to open any of my players' character sheets I get an API error with the code d1002fe431f6437bb9f291cdd74ee22d
anyone else experiencing similar issues?
nvm the problem seems to have gone away now
This is generally around the time that the normal site maintenance happens, which could be one explanation. It only lasts a few minutes
I see!
Question, where is Druid of the Spores on DnDbeyond to purchase as just that class?
Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica is where it first came out, so that's where you can find it 😄
also
subclass*
Tasha's has the reworked version
no, it's both the same
Tasha's didn't rework it. It was just re-released there
oh, my bad. but it looks like Tasha's doesn't sell it separately either so that wasn't helpful regardless
ya, that's my problem =/ I wanted to play it and use dndbeyone char sheet, but I can't find a way to purchase it indiviually, I mean, eventually I'm working my way to buy all of tashs, but one thing at a time x.x
You can buy it from GGtR's page 🙂
Content for purchase piecemeal is found in the book they are originally from. If you buy a book where the content was re-released though, you will still get said content so don't worry about that
(With the exception of Artificer that got moved into Tasha's)
In here, if you're still looking. 👉 https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/guildmasters-guide-to-ravnica
Is there something up with link sharing or is this just me? No one seems to be able to see my view-only character sheets when I give them a "Create Shareable Link" thing.
They'll need to sign in for now.
Then it should work.
But it's already been brought to the team's attention.
ah, ok. cool. at least I didn't break it. 😄
Hello, I've added this wonderous item, artifact to my inventory:https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/eye-and-hand-of-vecna
It lists that it has 8 charges but there is only 1 charge box and that is for "Wish" which is listed 'apart' from the other charge use spells. I'm wondering what I need to do in the character builder in order to see the charge boxes appear like I do for 'wish'. Essentially wondering how I see 8 charge boxes so I can tick them off as I use them with the item.
Is there a way to see the pdf version of someone elses character sheet?
You can have them share a link, or else send you their PDF. The export seems to cut things off in certain areas.
Settings> Side menu> Scroll to the bottom> Share link
Ahh, my DM wanted PDF's at each level, and instead of sending it to him each time, every player doing that, I didn't know if there was a way you could view a pdf as a viewer
Ah, I don't see an option to export when someone has "view only" sharable link. I would assume this is something still in the works. For now what I (personally) would do is level your character to each level, but export when you are finished setting up each level and then send that to them. Again, some of the text is cut off in certain areas so make sure you edit and fix where needed.
The 'eye and hand of Vecna' (combined item) only itself offers what you see under the Properties of the Eye and Hand section. To gain access to the other spells offered individually by the eye or the hand separately (Properties of the Eye and Properties of the Hand, respectively), equip both the 'eye of Vecna' and the 'hand of Vecna' separately to your character as well
Thank you! That worked. I should have tried that but hadn't clicked the "Magical" box under inventory when managing inventory from the character page. Sorry for the trouble.
Oh, last question. Is there a rhyme or reason to why the hand looks a bit… dimmer when compared to other "orange" items?
It's an artifact, not a legendary item. Artifacts are given a brown color
Ah, excellent. Thank you so much for the information.
Im trying to log out on mobile but i cant
From the mobile app, or a mobile browser?
Browser
What happens when you try logging out?
I cant find the button
If you pop out the side menu, Sign Out should be at the bottom of that menu
What's the easiest way to give a character access to spells that are not on their spell list? Like if a DM allowed a warlock to learn Dunamancy, or something like that
Copy it as homebrew
Make a copy of the spell and adjust the available classes.
This article will walk you through it:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/830-new-players-guide-customizing-spells
Step three, part two specifically.
Ah that makes so much more sense. TY. (I was thinking I would have to make a homebrew version of the subclass with a new spell list 😂 )
That one also works!
With the added benefit of keeping it relegated to just that character.
If you homebrew the spell itself, other wizards in other campaigns will probably gain access to it as well.
Assuming they have homebrew turned on.
yeah, but I wanted this to be a dynamic thing, with my players getting new spells based on their actions in game, so homebrewing just said spell would save a lot of time
Hi, I have a Paladin who's level 5, but I'm not seeing the 2nd level Optional Class Features expanded spell lists showing up for him.
I do own the content. Optional Class Features is turned on, but it's not showing up in the list on the character sheet.
@lost stump Go to this tab on the character builder, and enable the content you want from there
Each individual optional class feature can be turned on or off independent of each other, and they all start as off by default
You rock, thank you so much!
my partner tried to make a character and when they went to add personal characteristic, they all appear like this. Anyone know how to fix it?
Do they have a background selected?
They do, it's a custom one if that helps
is this just a glitch because DND beyond is allowing me to use 2nd level spells at lvl 1
If it's a custom one, they may not have configured the background characteristics. They can do so by clicking here and going to the drop-downs in the menu opened. If they want their own background characteristics, they can just type them in themselves in the Add Traits sections
Thank you
Send a link to your character so that a forum mod or someone with the proper permissions can take a look
You can also type whatever you like into Personality Traits, if that doesn't work or you don't like any of the options.
here?
Yes
Yeah, I was only seeing first level spell slots available for you
Same
yeah it allows me to prepare the second level spells but i cant use it
Any chance you can take a screenshot?
That is very strange. 🤔
Might be a strange question but I need to ask anyways. Looking at the guide and got to the dice part. Where it says "Compare the Total to a Target" I get a little confused. so if the DM says to roll a 16 and you roll a 17+ then is that a pass? and if the DM says to get a 12 and you roll a 3 would I then fail? Sorry if this is a little hard to read.
Your question might be better suited to #dnd-rules. This channel is for help using D&D Beyond specifically.
Alright thank you
hey i am new to the server and the game can someone tell me how to play?
Welcome! If you head over to #dnd-discussion and check the pinned messages, there's a bunch of helpful links to get you started. 🙂
thank you!
And this post has plenty of helpful tips for how to use DDB itself.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
i am having a hard time understanding how to make a character but i think i understand the basic rules so can you help me with the character creation? if you don't mind
Sure. Let's head on over to #character-discussion, and we'll get the ball rolling.
Phrasing this question might be a little difficult...
Is it normal/okay to be in multiple campaigns at once? Like, someone in my current campaign plays with another group on another day, and since we only play one day a week, I crave for more D&D, so I was thinking of joining another campaign. I'm kinda new to D&D (Almost finishing my first campaign rn), so I want to know if it's something people do all the time or if it could complicate things
Yeah, as long as you have time for it, it's fine! And for future reference, you can ask questions like this in #dnd-discussion, as this channel is for help with D&D Beyond's content and services.
Thank you and my apologies
Is there a way to set (in the homebrew feat creator/editor) a flying speed equal to your walking speed or would I have to put in the speed manually?
Yep. Add a Modifer with Type: "Set" and Subtype: "Speed (Flying)".
Ok, thanks
Just leave the Fixed Value blank, and it'll default to the character's walking speed.
Ok, thanks again
The +2 “Origin Ability Score Increase” for shadar-kai doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve toggled it on under the Origin Manager tab in my character race, but I’m not given the drop-down option for swapping that +2. Disregard please, looks like I just needed to refresh a couple times?
If I pick Arcane Focus as my arcane focus does that mean the magic comes from my hands
No, I believe that's an option for you to flavor your focus to be whatever object you want. It's not a huge deal though, so if you want it to come from your hands in some way you should ask your DM.
ok awesome thanks!
Mechanically, it matters. Normally you’d need a free hand to hold your spellcasting focus. As long as that rule still applies when it comes from your hand itself, it won’t break anything.
I'd imagine that the hand would just have to be free, though that is a funny image
It would be really interesting to have to hold someone else's hand. That would make for some interesting RP
"Take my hand, our friendship won't be strong enough for magic otherwise!"
Have to hold your child-sidekick's hand
"The magic was inside us all along! "
the fly spell
What is the difference between 'Speed (Flying)' and 'Innate Speed (Flying)'?
hey nerds
I want to include spell links and links to effects and condotions in the description of a custom beholder I'm making
how do I include that?
[spell]spellname[/spell]
[condition]conditionname[/condition]
You can find more tooltips here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/9811-how-to-add-tooltips
I don't think so, but you can give them alternate names using a semicolon
For example, putting
[spell]fireball;FIREBALL!!!!!![/spell] will link to fireball, but display FIREBALL!!!!!!
noted.....
I always plan on learning programming and web dev.... but then I see shenanigans like this and I'm like: Oh Hell no
Frankly, I’ve always wondered that myself. 😅
If I was to buy one of the books irl is there a thing that I could scan or something so dndbeyond acknowledges that I have the book
Nope. Wizards of the Coast is a different company (owned by Hasbro) then DnDBeyond.
You can, however, use the homebrew tools to rebuild your book content for free.
You could use DnDBeyond's Homebrew tools to "write in" that content (as long as you don't publish it).
Or purchase just the parts of that book you actually need, like a specific subclass.
Whatever you spend on those counts toward the purchase price of the book itself, too.
I'm probably going to end up buying some subclasses some time next week but today I'm going to a bookstore and wanted to be prepared to walk out with a few dnd books
Thank you for the advice guys!
Innate speeds can do more than regular speeds of the same type. Innate means that not only can you leave "Fixed Value" blank to set it equal to your walking speed (which regular speed can't do), but innate speeds can also be affected by speed bonuses, like "Bonus > Speed (flying)," monk/barbarian speed increases, etc. Think of speed as the "artificial" version, while innate speed is the "natural" version. Being naturally speedy, for instance, won't make an airplane that you pilot go any faster
The only difference I could ever discern was the word “have” vs “gain”, which seemed… inconsequential. :p
Hey, when im making a new pc/dmpc when it come to custom background I never get the Skill Proficiencies, Tool Proficiencies or Languages added in. Any fix on that?
You've got to select what choices you want from the Configure section
Clicking the plus will bring down this little thing, where you can select the general choices (aka 2 Skill+2 Tool, 2 Skill+2 Language, etc), and background feature you intend to take. Save it, then you can pick the skill you want itself
Hello, first time DM here. Im trying to enable content sharing on my campaign. Which I have done, but no one in the campaign can see any of the sources. Why?
If you've just enabled it, it may take a few minutes for everyone in the campaign to see the content. Does everybody have a character in the campaign where content is being shared?
You can also have everyone in the campaign (yourself included) go to https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace and check that your account entitlements are in sync (right at the top of the page)
I enabled it a few nights ago and they still cant see it. Everyone just checked their entitlements and they all say "Your entitlements data is in sync! You should have nothing to worry about, but contact our Support Team if you're having problems accessing your purchased content."
Hey just a quick question:
I bought some books on DNDBeyond, right?
My friend wants to get into D&D aswell and asked about the Masters Tier Sharing Perk.
Our idea would be that i buy more books, he gives me some money and i share the content with him.
How does the sharing work? Can he only use the content that this exact campaign or can he use the content as long as we're just in the same campaign together? :)
You both need to be in a campaign with sharing enabled
Your friend could buy the books and share them with you as well, with only one of you needing the master tier subscription
We wont always be in the same campaigns, that's the issue.
Then we'll both have to buy the books i assume.
The sharing only works when someone in the campaign has the master tier subscription and sharing is on.
So yes, if you both want access to the same books only one of you has, you would need to be in the same campaign.
you can just make a campaign for your characters
to share the books
he keeps one character in the campaign as a sort of placeholder, giving him access to all the content on the site. if he makes a character for a different campaign, he can make it in yours and then leave and join the other (I think)
yep
Quick question, do you have any tips for getting into D&D?
I don't know where to start.
Qq, as a dm, how to I find what infusions my Artificer has taken? I cant quite remember and want to be sure it's balanced around it
Go to #dnd-discussion and check the pinned messages for a bunch of useful links to help get you started.
Hi im new and dont know how to play can some one help me all i have is a cariter shet
Thanks.
See message above - go to #dnd-discussion and check out the pinned messages.
When im done can some one play with me?
Use #750812887697588356 to find a group to play with.
Ok
Hello, I'm having a campaign and I have Player's handbook bought and some other stuff but i can't share none of these with the other players. They are dependent to log in into my account or for me to select features or feats for them. Is there some kind of an option for me to share these or it's impossible?
Somebody in the campaign needs to have a Master Tier subscription.
i see, so i need to upgrade my subscription i suppose 😢
Or someone in the campaign - doesn't have to be you.
On their Inventory tab of their character sheet, you should see their infusions at the bottom.
Is there a specific piece of content they’re not able to find, like a certain subclass?
Figured it out, I had the Hero subscription which doesnt allow the sharing content
Thank you though @uneven lantern and @wanton shard
Ah. Yeah, that would do it.
If you did want to upgrade, customer support can give you a hand: https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
will the strixhaven mage subclasses be available as UA before the sourcebook is released?
No, they announced in a dev update a few weeks ago that it won’t be added as UA. They’re busy focusing on other priorities.
You can use the homebrew tools to add it for your own use, though.
We can help you with any questions you have there. Just be sure not to publish it if you do.
I have accidentally made a second dndbeyond account with another email. can I delete this account or merge the two together? I keep logging into the wrong account and losing my stuff. lol
I believe you’d need to contact customer support to delete it. I don’t there’s a way to merge them, though.
https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
im a completely new player wanting to get started, i have absolutely no idea what to do, how do i create a character (i know about the char builder but i dont know what any of the terms mean) and i dont know if certain races are locked to certain campaigns or something
also do i need to download a DnD client or something
Welcome! When you go to create a new character, you should see an option for Show Help Text. Check that box and it’ll walk you through the basics.
okay thanks
But it’s also organized to follow the first few chapters of the Basic Rules, so you should be able to read those and build your character at the same time.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
If you’ve got any specific rules questions, #dnd-rules has you covered, and #character-discussion can help your character design.
thanks for the help
And there’s a bunch of other helpful links pinned in #dnd-discussion that will get you started.
Hello, I would like to talk to someone from D&D Beyond staff regarding my profile
Regarding your profile here on Discord, or on the site itself?
the site itself
Contacting the support team is the best way to get in touch, then.
https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Thank you
Can I ask what exactly you are after?
I have requested assistance for the lack of content I should have with my character frames
Did you have frames before and they've disappeared?
More like, I have subscribed to D&D Beyond long enough before the character sheet perks existed and I did not receive any contents that Baldur's Gate provieds. So yes and no about the your question. All I received was the "Nine Hells"
Right - so 99% of the charatcer sheet cosmetics have nothing to do with subscribing
They are pre-order bonuses
recently, (as per overwhelming demand from the community), we've added some of the previous pre-order perks that were no longer available to subcriber perks.
We also made a couple of cosmetics (frames/backgrounds/themes) available for free to all accounts
The Nine Hells Baldurs Gate Frame was the one we granted to all users when we gifted everyone some character sheet cosmetics - https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/news-announcements/109703-news-character-sheet-cosmetics-a-gift-for-all
Any other bonuses to do with Baldurs Gate were pre-order bonuses.
So I'm probably just smooth brain missing it, but I can't see where to add xp to my players after our encounter
If the character is set to use XP, you should see an XP bar right under their character name. You can click on that, then edit the amount in the sidebar.
If there is no XP bar, the character is set to use milestone leveling instead. You can change it to XP in their character preferences.
Ok, thankyou
Hello I have a question about the Combat Tracker. Sometimes when I click on a creature to access the stat block, the whole Tracker disappears and I lose the initiatives and HP. Is this a known bug, or is it just my crappy internet dropping out and reloading DnDBeyond?
What does it show when that happens?
The DDB header and footer but everything else blank except for a small button in the top left that says "Report Feedback"
I’ve never heard of that happening from the combat tracker itself.
The only cause I’m aware of is if you’re in a campaign without a name.
Hmm that could be it. I built the encounter separately, not from one of my campaigns.
the error is to do with a campaign with no name exisiting, not that its linked to that specific encoutner
If you go to the My Encounters page -does it load?
Yes the encounter loads fine with no issues
not the encounter itself, the my encounters list
Yes the my encounters list also loads fine
And the issue with clicking off a monster and the page refreshing- this is reproducable?
Can you check if you have Beyond20 or other browser extensions and test without them?
Yes it is reproducible.
Ok I will try turning off Beyond20
Going through my notes the last time I had someone encounter that specific monster click off issue they found it was Beyond20.
That seems to have fixed it!
huzzah! my notes were correct!
Amazing. Thanks so much
Im going to say that is Me 1, Sunday 0 and take the rest of the day off 😛
Good deal lol
is there a way to automatically add something like a dark gift to a dndbeyond character sheet? or do you have to fully homebrew it all into a feat and give the abilities that way?
They’re working on it! But yeah, at the moment a homebrew feat is your best option.
so, for the spell conjure animals it doesn't really specify who gets to choose the type of animal, nor the CR of the animal. it just says: ```
- One beast of challenge rating 2 or lower
- Two beasts of challenge rating 1 or lower
- Four beasts of challenge rating 1/2 or lower
- Eight beasts of challenge rating 1/4 or lower```
What's the deal?
Typically I've been of the opinion that the caster chooses the animal within those parameters. Anyone have any house rules for this that are different?
That’s more of a #dnd-rules question, but the short answer is that the player picks the count/CR, and the DM picks the actual creatures.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sac/sage-advice-compendium#SA175
thankyouverymuch!!
Is the home brew system currently a WIP 🚧 because it’s super glitchy for me
Problem on my end or sites?
What sort of problems are you experiencing? And do you have any browser extensions that might be interfering? E.g. Beyond20, AboveVTT, ad-blockers, VPNs... It's generally a good idea to disable those, as they can have unintended effects on D&D Beyond
All home brew content is reset upon Save Changes it appears as blank and only a title in my home brew
There are typically two reasons for this: 1) Something like Beyond20 interfering, or 2) Leaving a required field blank
the annoying this is, that can invalidate a lot of effort due to a single box.
Also, don’t do sub-traits before saving the main page
I have a problem with a homebrew spell that I have added to one of my characters. It's not possible to remove it anymore. I even deleted that homebrew spell but it's stuck in my spell list. Any ideas?
im making my first character on a paper sheet but im having some problems determining some stats
anyone who could help
What happens when you try to remove it?
I have no option for that. The spell is shown as always prepared
Is it attached to a magic item, homebrew subclass or race, or feat? It might tell you where that comes from
No, I have made a homebrew spell für Alchemist - but already deleted it and have tried to activate and deactivate homebrew on the homepage a couple of times
If you go to the very top of the spell description, it will say what is granting your character the ability to cast the spell
The counter for my prepared Spells also doesn't work as normal - It shows 5 prepared spells but only 4 are preped
This cantrip comes from the item, Periapt of False Life
Is this a spell you created yourself?
yes, it's a homebrew spell from scartch - a custom variant version of healing spirit
Apparently if you put a subclass in the “Available for Class(es)” field, it will set it as always prepared for members of that subclass.
So if you put Alchemist there, you might try changing that to just Artificer instead.
Just remember homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to show up on the character sheet.
I have already deleted the spell yesterday
I have no way of changing anything within it ^^'
Actually, homebrew never gets completely deleted.
is there a way to access it for me?
Find your spell and then you should see an option to Restore in the top right corner.
Thank you!
Once it’s restored, you can edit, fix the classes, wait until it gets removed from your sheet, then delete it again if you like.
You might need to add it to your collection again, too.
Thank you so much ❤️ I hope it will work
Yeah, after you restore it, click “Add to Collection”, too, just to be safe.
yes, I will
😖 still the same
Hmm… 🤔
Uh! Changing the Subclass of the character has do the trick!
So just to double check, it is back in your collection?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-collection
Let’s try just one more thing, then.
Can you make some easily-recognizable change to the spell itself? The name, version, description, etc.
If that change comes through to the sheet, we’ll know that everything got updated and the subclass name there wasn’t the cause.
If it doesn’t show up, we’ll have to figure out why the change isn’t coming through instead.
It's now in the list of avaible spells but without always prepared and I can chose my missing 5. spell to prepare
Aha! So changing the subclass did do the trick, then.
If you remove it from your collection or delete it again, that would stop it from showing up at all.
yes, after I changend my artificer back to no subclass the spell was removed from always prepared
Yeah, that would also do it.
now I have changed my arti to alchemist and still not always prepared ❤️ just as I want
Greetings! Just joined this Discord because i'm trying to add the Hemocraft die of the Bloodhunter with the command {{scalevalue}} but it doesn't seem to work. First time adding a command and nothing seems to help.
Any thoughts on this?
What does it show instead?
I take it you already set up the level scaling for that?
Nothing, it's just blank
Yup got the level scaling already
Any chance you can share a screenshot?
Well for starters, snippet code like {{scalevalue}} only work in the snippet box.
The description should typically contain the full text of the rule.
Ah good to know
You can probably erase Multiclass Description entirely.
Is the snippet displaying it correctly, though? Or is that still where the problem is?
How do I get a Campaign started if I want to Dungeon master an adventure
What aspect of it are you having trouble with/do you have questions about?
I'm not sure how to set up a room to invite people to
I want it to be through voice chat
It should be as simple as going to Create Channel and then selecting Voice instead of Text.
But this channel is more for technical help with DDB itself.
sorry my bad
I think I may have found a D&D Beyond bug, is this the right spot to report it or should I go to ddb-feedback?
Either is usually fine, I think
Thank you. One of my players noted that on a homebrew sword (Githyanki SIlver Sword) that the modifier was showing on the character sheet, but was not being included in the dice roll. I did some testing using the character sheet normally and using the Beyond 20 Chrome add-in. It appeared that the character sheet roll was only rolling the 2d6 and adding 5, but was not rolling the 2d6 psychic damage (it rolled 2 dice on the screen and added 5 each time). I then enabled the Beyond 20 tool and it was reporting numbers separate numbers for the attack and for the psychic damage. I ran several rolls to ensure it was doing both the 2d6+5 and the extra 2d6 and not some odd combination (>12 for the attack and >6 for the psychic). From that, it appears that the normal character sheet rolls w/o the tool is just doing half of the required rolls.
Please note that the Beyond20 extension is not official - so we can't comment on anything it does. We do not have any official integration that exports to outside VTTs.
As for the DDB character sheet - depending on how the homebrew weapon was setup would change the way dice rolls are expressed
We also dont have a feature that rolls multiple instances together - so it the slashing damage and pyschic damage are setup sdeperatly, they need to be clicked seperatly
I was only using it as an example because it proves it doesn't roll them together as expected. There was no separate button for the psychic damage or we'd be happy to click it. Do you have an example of a standard weapon I could add to a character to see what you mean?
Currently multiple dice expressions can't be rolled together - the Digital dice are still in beta testing and many functions aren't built out yet.
As its a homebrew weapon I can comment on the setup without seeing it - its most likely not been setup to roll the multiple types
Ah, that makes sense on the first part.
Homebrew aside, do you know of a non-homebrew weapon which is built the way you describe? I'd like to see one as an example so I better understand how to build them in the future.
I bought a physicle copy of "Eberron: Rissing from the Last War". Now I want to get it on D&D Beyond. Does this physicle coppy alow me to unlock it on D&D Beyond? Or do I need to Buy a seperate digital version?
No, you need to buy a separate digital version.
Should the updated Bladesinger display on the app?
It should be updated on your character sheet, yeah.
How do I use Strixhaven UA?
DDB said that Strixhaven UA will not be supported.
Specifically, the announcement is here: https://youtu.be/uuMOWl2LVDk?t=606
And since it’s dead UA already, it will never come to ddb
Hey all quick question regarding making a homebrew item, I'm making a ranged version of an artificers thunder gauntlets but when i equip&attune them on a character the action doesnt show up
any thoughts?
attune?
they were attuned
add an action, not just a modifier?
hum i only see modifiers, conditions and spells
Unfortunately items themselves can't at the moment have Actions attached to them. To get the appropriate action on your character sheet, the easiest way will be to set it up as a Custom Action from the Actions pane
ah well thats unfortunate
Hey is there a way to upgrade my hero subscription to master tier and not having to pay the full price (again)?
I've just got it like a week ago.
The customer support team can give you a hand with that. 🙂
https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
Ticket Submitted, thank you @uneven lantern ♥
why is there only the order domain from guildmasters guide to ravnica ?
and when i turn off mtg content the tasha one isn't there
Order Domain is originally from GGTR, so it's tied to that book in the system.
is it the same in tasha's?
The content is the same in both books, yes.
It was just reprinted in Tasha's.
But if you have Tasha's and want to use that subclass, you need to turn on Magic: The Gathering Content and select the option you showed above: "GGtR - Order Domain".
alr, thanks
where can i buy the actor feat? i only see the information page but i dont know how to find it in the marketplace
You should be able to find that here, inside the Player’s Handbook.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/sourcebooks/players-handbook
oh wow is it really $2 for the whole bundle?
i just bought the bundle and the actor feat isnt in the list
is it called something else?
If you bought any other feats from that book in the past, it was probably discounted as a result.
Cool, but the actor feat isnt in the list
Yeah… 🤔
It shouldn’t be behind any toggles.
It doesn’t seem to have any prerequisites.
Did you have access to all those other feats already?
No i just bought the bundle a few mintues ago
Has it already been manually added to the character sheet (through Manage Feats)?
nope but i can try that
there it is, got it!
thanks guys
i already had it, does that mean i can add another? my dm told me to add another since we just got to level 4
No problem, I was just wondering whether that was possible. Interesting that it shows up there but not under the ASI/feat choice...
If your DM is giving you free feats, then sure. If it was supposed to take the place of your 4th-level Ability Score Increase, then I would either leave that choice blank, or else try now removing Actor and seeing whether it shows up in the ASI/feat choice drop-down.
cool thank you guys so much
where can I find the option to add "point slots/uses" to a homebrew subclass
You need to first create an Action and assign it a Reset Type. Then save it and edit it again, and you should be able find the Limited Use section at the bottom of the page.
Will there be a drop-down menu under the Superior Technique to select a Battle Master maneuver at some point? Fighter can pick Superior Technique but doesn’t let you actually pick a maneuver.
Is there a way to make a homebrew feat add a specific battle master maneuver to a character (disarming attack)?
This is the latest update I’m aware of for Superior Technique.
Fighting Style - Superior Technique. Not functional. We don't currently have a sensible way of implementing the selection of maneuvers that wouldn't cause characters to become broken in the future. We're working on a solution for this known issue.
You can build a homebrew feat to replicate the effects of Disarming Strike, but there’s not a way to directly tie it to the actual maneuver.
Okay, I will build a separate nearly identical disarming attack feature in to the whip master feat I am creating instead
That those spells are able to be cast as rituals if you have the ability to do so. See https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spellcasting#Rituals

I don't know if this is a problem because of the Underdark mode, but the stat block text is all white on an all white background
is there a way to make a custom magic item have a "charge" per each of the spells it can cast per dawn, or do they have to share from an overall charge pool on the item?
Does anyone know if you can add your home brew rules to your characters. For example at level up when you can chose a feat or attribute point I want my players to be able to choose another archetype of their class. Do we know if this is possible?
This is one of the known issues with Underdark mode and the team is aware
You can make a homebrew feat that does the archetype
Got it, thanks
As far as I know it's not possible to create bespoke pools of charges for items. If you can find an item that does that, you could copy it to see how it works
@icy ledge thank you so much
D&D Beyond only supports the core rules of D&D and doesn't provide options for modifying said rules I'm afraid. For example, classes can only have one subclass per the rules, so that's what we support.
Thank you so much for the help I’m a first time dm so I’m still getting used to things
You can manually adjust any ability score or add feats outside the normal progression directly from your sheet. You'd probably have to do a homebrew subclass or feat to simulate having multiple subclasses, though.
If this is private use, you can probably make a dummy item for your inventory and then grant the spells through a homebrew feat instead. That would probably give you a little more flexibility there.
If you were hoping to publish it, though, that's probably not a viable solution.
good idea
um not sure what I'm doing or where to even ask this... how do you apply racial stat bonuses on homebrew races? like i know what i want them to be, i just don't know how to make the bonuses apply...
Add a Modifier for each bonus.
If you wanted to add +1 to strength, you’d need…
Type: Bonus
Subtype: Strength Score
Fixed Value: 1
You can also make a homebrew copy of any of the official races to see how those were set up.
There is no way to save an encounter status mid battle in the Encounter Builder is there?
not yet 😦 I always write everything down
I screenshotted it so I can rebuild it before play. Otherwise I’d have to keep a tab open for a week 🤦🏼♂️
They're working on it right now! 😱
where are the secret codes?
What secret codes?
for entering the legendary bundle giveaway, i'm assuming.
hey , can someone tell me how to join a campaign online?
The DM of the campaign needs to send you the invite link
hey folks, I'm about to run Rime of the Frostmaiden and was wondering what the best way to do character creation is for a player who ||got the doppleganger secret||
at the moment all i can think of is ||create a character of the perceived race and overwrite all the bits that are necessary|| but I'm not sure how to add things like ||the extra spell they get||
[12:09 PM] rchif0: for entering the legendary bundle giveaway, i'm assuming. :this:
:This:
Probably better asked in #adventures-spoilers-archive - this channel is for getting technical help using DnDBeyond and it's services.
😉
Secret codes will be appearing across Discord, the forums, Twitch, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram throughout the next week and a half! There'll be one code in each location, so keep an eye out for when those start dropping. 😄
Is there any way to make these character sheets have dice rolling? The selection is checked, but it's not working for the shareable links:
You can’t roll from the shareable link, no.
Yep
I've been doing these super short one-shots (like 30-45 min) for people who don't know D&D
Find the invite link at the top of your campaign page. Visit that link yourself to add the character, then Unassign it on the campaign page.
So was hoping we can skip the account creation step. But oh well.
Have them create an account, then send them the same invite link. They’ll then be able to claim that character for themself.
cool
And then they’ll be able to roll.
Alternatively, you could look into using Avrae, their D&D Discord bot, for the rolls.
You can try it out in #ddb-avrae-commands by typing !tutorial quickstart
But for a first-timer, it’s probably a steeper learning curve than just setting up a DDB account.
for sure, thanks
Is there a way to transfer an already created character to a campaign?
Oh wait, I see
tried to add a modifier, it keeps wiping the page clean
if I create a character while part of a master tier subscribers campaign will I lose any content I don't own If I leave that campaign?
Yes.
No problem.
Well yes and no... Your character wont have content stripped, but you may have issues in future levelling up, etc
is there a way to hypothetically change the dice used in an ability like rogue sneak attack for a homebrew subclass
You can't automatically change the way that the base class Sneak Attack works, but you can create a new Sneak Attack action that is part of a subclass feature. Then you'd even have the option of customizing the original Sneak Attack action to prevent it from displaying as an attack.
okay, got it thanks
The most common cause is an extension causing this.
Is there a way to add a side kick in dnd beyond if you have Tashas Cauldron of everything?
Or how to add the animal companion to a beast master ranger?
Not yet, because of the way the new scaling statblocks work. If you do want it in Extras, you’ll need to create a homebrew monster built to your specific stats, then add it under the “Misc” or “Pet” categories.
And you’ll need to update its relevant stats whenever yours change.
My ddb account is linked with discord, avrae recognizes my character but the dice rolls don’t transfer. Is there a specific setting somewhere to make this happen?
!c percep will do a perception check, your rolls should work
You can try running through !tutorial beyond to double-check that everything’s set up correctly.
Did your DM link the campaign to your Discord channel, though?
is it possible for me to make a HB familliar statblock and put it on my character sheet as an extra?
Yep it is
Just make a homebrew monster, then make sure homebrew content is enabled on your character sheet
Hello! When I export my character to PDF, the spell list is not updating to reflect changes. The PDF still shows an older version of my spell list. Is there a solution for this issue?
Do you have a link to the character sheet?
Also, idk if caching might be at fault, but how long after you updated the spell list did you try reexporting to PDF?
Can Avrae pull an encounter I've built in DDB? I simply want to be able to post the iniative order to my chat
Not currently, as far as I know.
It has been at least 1 hour since originally modifying the spell list. I've made several changes and none of them are appearing. (Sent the link via PM.)
Ok good to know, thanks
I've passed the feedback/suggestion on, though! 🙂
Looks like the problem is related to caching (#ddb-support message)
Ah, my guess was right, then. Let me know if that process solves your problem 🙂
Thanks! Is there a way to share just the Magic Items from a campaign without sharing the whole supplement?
not sure what I can see and they can see
Right now, there is not. If content sharing is enabled for the campaign, all purchased standalone content is shared - though the DM can enable or disable compendium sharing on a book-by-book basis.
How do I do that?
Hello there, I have a doubt regarding this month's perks, I want to buy a sub but I would only be available to do so on the 31st, if I do that that day, do I get the perks?
At the top of your campaign page is a Content Management button. Inside there, you can turn off compendium access for specific books. That will stop them from accessing and reading the book itself, but they'll still be able to use any character options from it on their character sheet.
Ah I see it now "Blocking a source will hide compendium content to prevent players from reading it unless they own it. No options or content will be removed from other tools such as the character builder, character sheet, or encounter builder."
I tested with an Alt. For example if I block CoS they can't see it but they can add the Holy Symbol of Ravenkind
Yep! You should get this month's subscription perks even if you sign up on the 31st. 👍
Thank you!
Is there a way to input the things granted from the Dark Gifts described in VRGtR without having to just homebrew it into a class or race? And if not, it should totally be an option under the extra tab.
last i checked no sadly. id be surprised if they didnt add it soon tho
They’re currently building a framework to support those kinds of game features.
But in the meantime, a homebrew feat is usually the best workaround.
how much is hero tier sub and how much is master tier sub? it doesnt show for me, i think cos im alredy subbed to master tier
i think master was 50 or 60$ i just dont remember
You can check here - https://www.dndbeyond.com/subscribe - if you open it in an incognito window so you aren't logged in will show as if you have no subscription - price panels at the bottom of the page.
If I cancel a subscription, because I don't want it to renew...will I still have my access for the remaining time?
Yes, you will.
Thanks
Anyone know if special codes have been put up anywhere for the new legendary bundle contest?
I've checked IG, Twitter, and here so far.
is something going on with DDB rn? im having trouble getting character sheets to load? or is it just me
hmm
There's one on the DDB forums - it's fairly easy to find. I haven't found the one on Twitch yet, but the DDB team on Facebook says those two are released (as of 4-hours ago)
I know there was one mentioned by the bot in Twitch chat 😉
Awe, @dusky brook ... making it too easy for folks 😛
Thanks! I used the code from the Forum, now my sheet is saying that task is checked off and will not let me enter more... 😕🤷
Lol teamwork!
Oooo found the one in the twitch stream from yesterday 😉
So do I need 10 referrals to get the 20 extra? Won’t let me check it after just the one
Nope - I was able to click on the 20 after completing most of the others, but none of the referrals.
Just did too, after some serious scrolling lol
!TressymMixedWithDisplacerKitten
That's not it 😛
That was part of a contest - they were giving away copies of the new adventure that's coming out
Ohhhhh
Maybe the contest will allow more code entries at a later time.
I think you can do all of them once per day
But the codes are 1-use
So up to 6-days you can use that option to enter
I just got my max 20 again, but it still will not allow another code...
How many days has this been going on?
Yeah, my 20 reset, but none of the others did, and clicking on the 20 does nothing 😦
Well I think I'm doing ok. I have 54 entries so far. Just saw the email yesterday.
Hey, just wanna point out that this channel is for getting help using the site and isn't the best place to discuss the giveaway
Yeah - thats fair. Sorry!
Probably best to take any discussion to #non-dnd-topics
No worries, just a heads up
Oh ok I figured it was a general help
Appreciated
That channel has been locked for the time being
So #non-dnd-topics is probably the best place
I was trying to use that first last night. That is why I posted asking about the contest in here. After asking in general chat first.
Thanks!
Hello amazing DDB team! I am trying to create a homebrew feat that can change the weapon property of a specific weapon to finesse. In the homebrew feat window, I go to Modifiers and select Weapon Propery as Modifier Type, and Finesse as Modifier Subtype. What do I do next to apply it to the weapon in question?
Feats can't change the properties of weapon, and the modifier you're using won't do anything. The reason you're seeing the modifier is because all modifiers are visible within all homebrew fields, even if they don't function there
I don't believe such a thing is possible within the realm of DDB's homebrew system currently. The closest available is the Revenant Blade feat from Eberron, which doesn't apply the Finesse property to the weapon too, but instead relies on a special item specifically listed on DDB only to simulate its effects.
Ah I see. Ok I will just override the weapons attack and damage mods. Thank you for the quick response!
hi! I'm new to the website and to discord, and I wanted to ask a question. I wanted to do a Ranger Drakewarden subclass revision to use in a game here in discord, but on the website I do not have the option to pick Drakewarden as template. Do I have to recreate the subclass from origin?
I'm not that experienced with the website, but from what i know you have to buy the books on the website to unlock certain content.
But UA is free right?
From what I just learned tho, DMs normally share there books when inviting you to a campaign so you can use what they want to make it easier
I can pick the subclass with any Ranger, I just cant pick the templated when I try to create a homebrew
yes you need to manually do it
since UA is it's own weird basket, archive, WOTC content, etc etc
Subclasses are the exception when it comes to copying as a base for homebrew. You cannot copy UA or homebrew subclasses in order to make a new one when homebrewing
Is content sharing back down to 3 campaigns now or is it still 5? (I'm afraid to test it out in case I'll be down to 4)
It should still be 5, I believe.
It'll be announced on social media well in advance of dropping back down to 3 if/when that happens
Ah that's good to know. Thanks!
Also there'll likely be a banner on the site notifying people too
how would a Beastmaster get their companion to trigger in the encounter builder?
Does anyone know if it is possible to hide monsters in the turn tracker for the purposes of importing to Roll20? For instance, if you hit 'Start' on the initiative tracker, it loads up all the monsters in DDB into R20 tracker, including those that were supposed to be hidden. Any way to tie in links to hidden tokens, maybe?
D&D Beyond doesn't support any connectivity to roll20. For you to be doing the, you would have to be using an unsupported third party extension. You'd be best off contacting the developer of the extension, but it's the recommendation of D&D Beyond to disable the extension to avoid it causing unintended behaviour on the site
"Trigger" in what sense?
when I'm in the Encounter Builder, if a character is a part of my Campaign they are pulled in. Under Ranger I can put the Companion in the Extra tab but when I use the Builder the creature is not added. Is there a way to get this Companion to pull through when I create an encounter or is manually adding it the best bet?
Manually adding is the best bet, the extras tab isn't currently integrated into the encounter builder.
ok thank you! I guess that would be a request in the feedback channel. I'm sure it's not easy to do but would be amazing to have!
I'll forward it to the team!
Is it normal for Homebrew content to take a while to update? It's kinda hard to create homebrews when the wait to see it in the character sheet is that long.
Yep, due to caching between the different services, updating homebrew can take time to propagate
Hmm, that makes sense. Hopefully it gets quicker in the future. Thank you, tho!
We expect fifteen minutes of caching as a normal level.
what do ppl mean by roleplay heavy?
@ancient hazel A role play heavy campaign is one where the game is more focused on the characters and storytelling, instead of combat and mechanics
ohhh :D nice
Hey, I have been having a slight glitch with dnd beyond. I'm unable to make characters no matter what, I can't make a character in my friends game, or in the "My characters" menu, or even when I attempted to make my own game and try but the button refused to show up. And my friend tried to just make the character for me, and when I tried to edit it, the thing straight up just sent me the 403 error.
so for some reason, no matter what I do, I'm unable to make a new character, even though I have the slots for it.
ok, wait nevermind it might have fixed itself, for I was able to force make a character, I shall see if I can export it to my friends game.
and nope, that also made a big error.
What does it say for My Character Slots here?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-characters
Do you have an active subscription?
I actually fixed it! pretty much just had to hard reset my computer, because I started to notice more errors started happening, and not just with dnd byond.
but it pretty much just started with dnd byond at first.
and it just progressively started to make everything extremely bad.
Well, glad it’s working, at least!
What does this mean
Looks like a payment processor is rejecting the payment?
Assuming that you were trying to purchase something in the marketplace.
I was
So what you may need to do is contact the bank/issuer of the payment you were trying to use and explain that you were trying to purchase something from Fandom/DnDBeyond and confirm that they are not blocking the payment.
AVS is Address Verification System.
The billing address you entered in DDB must not match what your bank has on file.
Oh
It could be something as small as a period or an extra space.
Good luck! Just double-check what you’ve got on file with the bank, and make sure you enter it exactly the same. You should be good. 👍
Address, state, and postcode/zip code are usually the fields to triple confirm
Yeah I put in the postal code wrong. I got the players handbook now though! Thank you so much to evergone who helped
Hey, I'm sure I can find this answer if I dig around long enough, but I'd really appreciate the help if someone can give me an answer.... (I apologize in advance for how slow I am with all of this. I haven't had much experience with D&D outside of in person experiences.)
Anyway.... my question is how to link my D&D beyond campaign to Avrae/Discord? I've helped my players drop in their characters.... I just don't know how to link the campaign, which as I understand it may also allow my players to see their D&D beyond rolls in the discord server as well. I appreciate your patience and help a ton. thanks!
Do !help campaign, and Avrae will help you with it 😄
Thanks a ton! will do 😊
um, so I'm making a homebrew race on DnDbeyond, and like when I have something like Languages, how would I set that up? Wouldn't I have to add more than just the description?
Add modifiers. 😊
I mean, I kinda knew that, but there is an entire page devoted to modifiers, so knowing exactly what to click and set is the thing I'm asking
😊
Best way to figure out how to make a race is to copy an existing one using the homebrew tools and see how it's all set up
Hey
I have a little problem with ddb and I was wondering if anyone here could help me. The problem is that I am unable to see any of my character sheets on ddb. When I click on My Characters in the dropdown menu to open the sheets, all I see is this red circle loading .
Is there something I can do to be able to see my character sheets again?
This it all that I get when I try to see character sheets.
First thing is usually to make sure you dont have any addons that may be interfering with the site, then maybe try another browser, or clear your cache
I have already tried all of that. I really don't know what to do
it does the same thing on another browser?
Yes, same thing
huh, maybe check account entitlements? sometimes that causes weirdness, other than that im out of ideas
Looks like you caught the maintenance window, which is usually around 0900 to 0930 UTC
Well it wasn't working yesterday evening either. But I will just keep trying, hopefully I can fix it. Thank you guys for your help
How do I find list of animals
Animal isn't really a category, but beasts should get you close: https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters?filter-type=2
Just set the Modifier Type to “Language” and the Subtype to whichever language you want them to have.
There’s also “Choose a language” in there if you want to let them pick it themselves.
K thx
Sounds like your best option is to contact customer support then.
https://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
ok so i just got the email for the competition thingy for a book and dice and for some reason the entry for discord isn’t working
any way to make it work?
got it working nvm
I'm not sure about the correct place but! There is a more or less new plattform called FoundryVTT. It would be awesome to have an official link between FoundryVTT and D&DBeyond. Pulling in adventures, charactersheets etc. Idealy with backward channel for updating stuff into dndbeyond (but I understand... security concerns and stuff)
@uneven lantern any suggestions on ability score increase? Speed? and like proficiency in HIstory? I wanna make sure but it feels like I mightve messed up
For anyone needing context wanting to answer
Hey everyone not sure if fits in help or feedback 😄 but is there a way so automatically roll with disadvantage when the Charakter has exhaustion points?
No. To roll with disadvantage, you have to right click and click disadvantage in the menu that opens
To increase your strength score by one, as an example, you’d add a Modifier with Type: “Bonus”, Subtype: “Strength Score”, and Fixed Value: “1”.
For a speed example, “Set”, “Innate Speed (Swimming)”, “30” in those same fields would give you a 30ft swim speed.
And for proficiency, you’d just need “Proficiency”, “History”.
Are there any good video tutorials that show how to make a homebrew race? I know there is one for subclasses but is there one for making a homebrew race?
Not a video, but there is a handy guide here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/190-design-workshop-races
How about one for making a feat that grants immunities?
Just give it a Modifier with Type: "Immunity" and an appropriate Subtype.
But if you want an article like the one above, here's the one for feats:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/168-design-workshop-feats
I am trying to add a racial trait to my homebrew race but when I press save everything is gone and I've done it so many times without the racial trait's not actually there.
First thing to check, do you have any extensions in your browser? If so, please disable them all and see if the issue continues.
that worked. Thank you
Does TCE not give you access to artificer as a pickable class in the character builder?
Do you have access to the full book or only part of it?
Full book, I have shared content with a player, and they are saying they cannot pick the artificer.
I bought the player bundle a while back.
Is their character assigned to your campaign?
Shared character options are available only inside the campaign that’s sharing it.
Yeah, that’s only for multiclass, which would also show this:
When I move characters between maps, it seems that it doesn't transition for them. Am I missing a step?
0: is it showing the current ability new?
Like the current score
I don’t think so, but I’m not actually sure. 🤔
Never seen that before
It’s possible to turn those prerequisites off in your character preferences.
I think you might be asking in the wrong place.
I couldn't find a Roll20 discord
well this isn’t affiliated with Roll20 in any way
I don’t know, but we can’t help with Roll20, I’m afraid.
Might have better luck trying a server which uses roll20
A little context would help when asking questions about other products as well.
Try here:

New to Roll20 or RPGs in general? Let us help you get started!
That's alright, thank you for letting me know 🙂
an avrae person helping with other matters? Blasphemy
Yeah I could tell you're rather unhelpful.
is there ever like a learn to play d&d game that goes on
I am also interested in this information
I'd suggest having a look through #looking-for-players , there are often people running games for beginners
Not sure if this is the correct channel to ask this.
Concerning Clockwork Magic.
Whenever you gain a sorcerer level, you can replace one spell you gained from this feature with another spell of the same level. The new spell must be an abjuration or a transmutation spell from the sorcerer, warlock, or wizard spell list.
I can't seem to figure out how to do this in DDB. Does anyone know?
nvm. according to the support site, they don't have a way to do this.
Not sure what you mean by "straight logins" but I believe D&DBeyond has always used 3rd party logins.
Yeah, right now the only way to swap it is to make a homebrew copy of that subclass and change it there.
How do I add a table to a dnd beyond homebrew? I added one to my subclasses and can't get the table to appear as a table. It only shows the raw code
Hit the Source Mode </> button in the toolbar, paste it there, then hit the button again.
hi is there a way to move an existing character i made to a campaign?
Yep! Just copy the invite link at the top of your campaign page and paste it into your address bar.
ah okay thank you i figured i was missing a button or something
The primary purpose of that link is to copy it and send it to someone else, which is why I think it’s not clickable.
But yeah, the link itself works for DMs and players alike.
If the character you’re adding is for one of your players, make sure you Unassign it there on the campaign page, too.
Then when your players use the invite link, they can claim that character for themself.
cool thank you
With content sharing via campaigns does the owner of the campaign have to be the to content share or can a player do it
A player can be the one who shares the content
Ok, thank you
Do you know how to do it? A friend of mine is asking how to do it as a player in the campaign but can’t figure it out
They would first need to have a Master Tier subscription. If they do have it, then in the campaign, at the top left right under the campaign's name, there should be an option to share content
hi .. I am sure there is a way to do this but I can't figure it out. I have pre-built characters in a campaign but when I invite players to join the campaign by sending them the invite link, they are being asked to pick one of their DDB characters. How can they just join and then select one of the pre-built ones in the campaign?
You have to unclaim the prebuilt characters
Thanks!
Hit the unassign button to do it
https://gyazo.com/8eedfe19202a409d9b60113036730ec9
They are listed as "unassigned" characters
Does the user have an available character slot?
Free tier users can have up to six characters.
ahhh that may be it!!
checking!
that was it .. duhhh .. thank you so much truly. so obvious I didn't think of it
I'm working on transferring a subclass for monk from a homebrew source book I have (I received permission) to dnd beyond. I can't figure out how to allow it to give spells without it being pick 1 spell. At third level it gives 2 cantrips and 2 spells then 3 at 6th, 5 at 11th, and 6 at 17th. My problem is how do I restrict it to level and how do I allow the amount in that amount?
That might help.
This is a better question for #homebrew but I’d suggest checking how arcane trickster or eldritch knight do it
I gave this character the mobile feat but it doesn't seem to add the extra feet to the walking speed on the sheet. Is this a bug or did I miss something?
It shows up in the feats, but your movement speed is 25 feet, which I think is your basic speed
yes, which is why i am asking if it is a bug
something similar happened on another sheet of mine where my hex weapon option wasn't showing on a staff for my Fire beaming Sorc/fight/lock
You need 13 for chain, you only have 10.
i should swap the int to str then. This is actually a character i made for a one shot i am running for friends and they asked me to make their characters.
Oh I totally missed that
I'm just that good 😎
I'm trying to create a character in d&d beyond but my text is appearing white on the background which is white on my computer and I don't know how to change it and it's kind of hard to read the text like nearly impossible
Try a different browser. It sounds like it's your browser's settings.
My browser is locked to dark mode even manually changing it doesn't affect it I will try using default Google Chrome though
Okay it seems to be something with my browser thanks for the help I can sort it out from here I just didn't know how to narrow it down
Okay, so I can't figure out how to do this on dndbeyond. I'm trying to add a spellcasting thing to a subclass like EK and Trickster. The problem is I set it up and there's no option to add a spell list that I saw. I even looked inside the EK to try and copy it but there was still nothing.
You open the race in the homebrew racebuilder, open the racial traits and edit one of the existing on. In the new submenu you find options, modifiers, spells, action and creatures.
Under spells you can add the spells you want
I'm not trying to make a race though.
Oh right,I misread
So they use CHA for their spellcasting ability?
A sorc that uses wisdom?
It's a monk. The subclass gives spell casting and uses ki to cast the spells so it uses Wisdom.
Oh good 😅
So a monk that uses the sorc spelllist
Yes
If you’d said they used spell slots, you might have had a hard time here.
Just take a level in Cleric. It's not the best monk sub class.
I'm talking about a homebrew subclass for monk. It's spellcasting is by far the most balanced and best version of Spell casting on a monk.
That might still not work for you, I’m afraid.
The spell list tab
The way Eldritch Knight works is mostly under the hood.
That's a fighter, not a monk
Is that not available with homebrew?
When you give a martial class an ability called “Spellcasting” or “Pact Magic”, it automatically adds the spell slots and number of spells known according to the official spellcasting subclass for that class.
So any fighter with “Spellcasting” follows the EK progression.
For rogues, it’s AT. For bloodhunter, it’s… whichever one that is.
Obviously monks don’t have one of those.
Doing it that way also doesn’t give you control over when they unlock those spell slots, or when they learn new spells.
Soooo… you’re gonna want to sidestep all of that.
Okay
Which also means you won’t have the standard Spells tab.
Doesn't a subclass that allows the use of Ki for spellcasting already exist, is my point?
Or am I totally off base?
Way of the Four Elements, yeah.
And that might be better to look at at least to see how they set it up for DDB.
It's a great idea. Sadly it was made too early to be balanced properly
I tried that. I didn't see anything for adding spells or anything. It threw me for a loop
I was like woah....how....why?
Yours won’t be quite the same. All its spells are added in the Class Feature Options for the Elemental Disciplines feature.
Hmm...would it be easier if I showed the ability that adds spell casting?
I've never tried making an entire subclass on DDB before ;O
All right. First things first… on the main subclass page, they have Spellcasting set to “WIS”. You’ll probably want to do the same.
The rest of the spellcasting fields there are left blank.
I made one for monk and put it up on dndbeyond. If you're interested in seeing it. It's posted in the community
Then you’ll want to add your class feature and click to add a Spell.
Can Cast Spells and Knows All Spells should be unselected (-).
You’ll want to fill in…
Spell Class: Sorcerer
Spell Levels: 1
Ability Score: Wis
Consumes Spell Slot: No
Available at Character Level: 3
If it takes multiple Ki points to cast this spell, you’ll also want to fill Minimum and Maximum Spell Charges Expended.
So you’d put 1 for minimum (I assume) and 3 for maximum, for this one.
Okay
All that should give you a dropdown in the character builder where you can select one 1st-level sorcerer spell at level 3.
Actually, until you hit level five you can only cast it at the base level
Then you need to add another Spell using the same steps to let them pick a second.
Hmm…
I’m not sure you can do a restriction like that.
I'll probably just have it be selected at base level. They would just follow the upcasting rules.
Generally speaking, the homebrew system is built to facilitate the official rules. If there’s not an official subclass that’s ever done something like that, the tools you’d need for it might not exist.
Upcasting rules being just add dice
Your other option would be to update the subclass as the rules change.
So add it in once you actually hit level 5.
Anyway, for the next spell, you’d add it the same as the first two, but change Spell Level to 2 and Available at Class Level to 6.
And so on for the rest.
So would I add spell level 2 or change it to 2?
That's what I thought. I think I have it fixed now.
Would you like to see how it looks?
As a screenshot, you mean?
Don’t publish the homebrew itself if it’s not your own original work.
I see. I actually added a credit spot on it for the people that made it. I haven't posted it yet I was gonna ask if creator wanted me to go ahead and post it. Right now they're all super busy with actually making the homebrew so they can't transfer it to things like dndbeyond.
I shall take a screenshot
You can read the full homebrew publishing guidelines here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew-rules-guidelines
It's showing the spells I shouldn't have access to yet
If the original author wants it published on DDB, I’d suggest showing them exactly how you set it up so they can replicate it and publish it themselves, once they’re able.
What spells it it showing, though?
You are only allowed to publish content you created, you cannot publish the creations of others even with claims of permission
Okay
The character is only level 3 so he should only have the two cantrips and the two first level spells
Yes
Hey guys I've got a question
I want to pick up "Thrown Weapon Fighting" for a Fighter
But tasha's doesn't offer it separately
In fact, I don't exactly know where it is at all
So I just want to know how to purchase it (in case idk I buy the wrong thing)
You need to purchase the full book of Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. Some content isn't offered separately
Okay, thank you! I was just wondering about all this stuff like compendium whatever and things, confused me mightily!
Thanks!!!!
Ah, shoot, it keeps saying internal server error every time I try and buy the whole book
Compendium is the 'ebook' version and won't unlock anything for the character builder
Thank you! That's very kind of you to clarify! I'm new to all this dnd online stuff
how do you swap out spells for the clockwork soul sorcerer on dndbeyond? i don't see where i shows it under spells
As per the Tasha'a support thread, that functionality isn't supported at this time (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/d-d-beyond-general/bugs-support/87774-tashas-cauldron-of-everything-issues-and-support). You can work around this by making a homebrew copy of the subclass and swapping out the spells you want.
understood, thanks
They live up to 30 years on average
It would be considered over middle aged (probably like the human 45)
Lore questions should be asked in #dnd-discussion #dm-discussion or #character-discussion as relevant. This channel is for help with D&D Beyond and its tools.
sorry
anyone know how long it takes for changes to private homebrew items to show up in the instances saved to a character's sheet?
Oh boy, I was rolling HP for a white dragon and realized DDB put those rolls into the game log. how do I clear those out so my players don't see them?
i assume it's a cached data type situation?
Does anyone know of a workaround/hack to be able to let a Ranger prepare spells each day?
My DM and I spent a little while trying to figure it out and best we can come up with is just editing known spells in the character builder. Would be nice if there was a cleaner way to do this outside of making a full custom class.
On the character sheet go to spells and there should be a manage button
You can add and remove spells from the sidebar
You can just swap spells in the normal character screen without going to the website. Just open the character, go to the spells tab , click manage spells eh voila.
Strictly speaking you can violate the rules that way, since you can swap cantrips too, which shouldn't be possible, so just talk to your dm what you change
thanks guys 🙂
And strictly speaking the ranger is only allowed to change one spell with every levelup, not during rests
yeah, but my DM is allowing this for my character. We are trying to make my Ranger a sorta utility semi-caster
It is a Gloomstalker and we also have feats at level 1. So I can pick up some extra spells there if I wish.
It’s usually about 15 minutes, and yeah, due to caching.
Helps your sheet load faster whenever you’re not editing homebrew, which is most of the time, but it is a tradeoff there.
I figured - thanks, @uneven lantern !
There’s not currently a way to remove rolls from the game log. Check your roll privacy settings at the top of the game log, though. If it’s set to “self”, your players won’t see it anyway — just you.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/changelog/1013-keep-your-rolls-secret
ok thanks. They might want to add a way to clear the log... It is set to Self, whew!
how do i join a game?
You can check out available games in #looking-for-players and #750812887697588356. Be sure to check the channel rules before posting or responding to a post.
I'm having trouble working the text box input things.
An example of what I meant
It won't let me click accept to save what I inputed as the button doesn't fit on the screen. I can't scroll in that menu either. So I can't scroll down to fix it.
Are you using any VPN, browser extensions, or blocking 3rd party cookies? These can cause issues interacting with DnDBeyond.
Nope, I'm on mobile
What device and OS version?
Note 20 and android 11. It does this on any mobile device I use though.
Hmmm. Well it's beyond my limited 3rd party, unofficial support. Hopefully a mod will see this and pass it on to the devs. You might also try submitting a ticket through the DnDBeyond help portal: https://dndbeyond.zendesk.com/hc/en-us
Wish I could help more!
Thanks for at least attempting
Unfortuantley I think that popup window/box is jsut not configured for mobile
A lot of the homebrew tools I'd strongly suggest to use a desktop/laptop for the extra screen space. Trying to navigate through the homebrew tools on mobile is a nightmare.
Sadly I don't have a set up where that is feasible. I don't get internet out where I live
You can use some phones as a Hotspot if you have a computer with wifi.
Sort of? It just uses you phone's data and the wifi antenna broadcasts, rather than receives.
It's just an option on mine.
Desktop mode and screen sharing to your TV might be another option.
anyone know why my homebrew cantrips damage won't scale with character level, even though i set it up to?, also it won't list the save like it does for regular spells (ping me if you reply)
i can't add 2 more cantrips from magic initiate to work on character sheet
If you picked the one actually called Magic Initiate, you need to swap it for the one with the appropriate class name instead, like Magic Initiate (Wizard).
So one of my players rolled for stats in DDB and got 3, 4, 2, 1 followed by 20 6's in a row. Resulting in stats of 5 18's and a 9.
A bug? Or do I have to accept these stats? 😆
20 6s in a row sounds very unlikely. However some third party extensions can manipulate the dice roller, so I'd suggest they check they don't have any running that might be doing so
Hi, I have a doubt, if I buy the Wildemount book on DDB, do I get to use the tortle race on my character sheet, or do I have to get the tortle package?
yes.
If you buy Explorer's Guide to Wildemount in its entirety, you will gain access to the tortle race in the Character Builder, yes. The tortle is simply not available for purchase piecemeal from EGtW, because its original source is The Tortle Package.
Thanks you all
So I was on someone's campaign in DnDBeyond for their content sharing so I could learn this stuff better. They removed the campaign. and now all of my characters are broken. Is there something I could somehow convert the sheet to so that it works with avrae? Currently I can't !cast most spells I know. and base DnDBeyond has none of the normal feats
You can buy the specific spells and feats that you need, instead of the whole book. Whatever you spend will get credited toward the purchase price of the book itself, too.
How do you actually find your friends on ddb? Or can you only find them if content sharing is up for one of you? There isn't some kind of friends list, is there?
Nope, there's no friends list or search option. You can follow people however, which is primarily to get notifications when they post on the forum
Sadness.
Out of curiosity, what did you want from having a friends list? What would it do, ideally?
I think mainly what I'd be interested in is you'd be able to look at their character sheets they've made without having to bug them for a link to it every time they make a new character.
Character sheet sharing is active (rather than passive) by design so people can have characters that they are able to share for stuff like feedback without all their friends seeing.
You might not want your group to know what character you're rolling up next after your last one died, but you don't want to set the character to private
I don't really see an issue with why you'd not want to set it to private if you didn't want anyone to see it, yet. Or there could be a setting where it was share only, like how Google Docs work, only those with the physical link could view incase you want to share with only specific people without it totally private.
It’s an interesting idea, at the very least. We can pass it on to the team for consideration.
Just would help if you somehow lose the link or they still haven't gotten around to sharing and you're trying to figure something out. Like maybe they're busy and can't get back to you with a link. I don't like to have to keep bugging people if they're busy yet I need to know information so I can decide on what I'm doing for my own stuff.
So I wanted to import a homebrew class into ddb that I found a pdf for. Is there an easy way or do I have to do the ye olden manual entry?
D&D Beyond doesn't support homebrew classes
But for all other homebrew, manual entry is the only option, yeah
My bad it was a subclass. Thanks for the info I'll buckle down for the long entry
If you buy an subsciption, the dices you get in the set will be in your inventory forever? And are they different every month and if so, can there be two months with the same dice?
+
Can you see what were the previous dices etc.?
The subscribers bonus as yours to keep forever, and yours to use as long as you have an active subscription.
If you cancel your subscription, you won’t be able to use them until you resubscribe.
Only one dice set has been given as a subscriber perk so far: the sanguine dice, which are still available until the end of July.
Actually, I suppose there were two subscriber dice before they started doing this monthly. The dice of healing, and the everlasting rime.
Hi, I'm trying to get a monk to have expertise on attack roles with unarmed strikes and monk weapons. Instead of homebrewing the entire class I figured adding a feat would be easier but it doesn't seem to work.
I created the feat and added two modifiers.
1 Expertise simple weapons
2 Expertise Melee attacks
Any idea where I went wrong?
Expertise on attack rolls isn't something that exists in the rules, so ddb doesn't mechanically support it
ah I was afraid of that thanks
a player in my group misread "mastery" as expertise and apparently has been adding double proficiency ever since the group started playing... The character is level 8 now, started at 1 ... the DM never noticed...
Another question: I have an item that deals two types of damage, but only one of them is listed in the damage column, while the other is only listed in the notes, any way I can move them both to damage?
Not yet on that one either, I’m afraid.
For the monk, you can add a feat with the correct text. Then on the sheet, just click on your unarmed strike, open the Customize section in the sidebar, and manually add a To Hit bonus equal to your proficiency.
thanks, will do that one
For the weapon damage, you can go to the Actions tab and hit Manage Custom in the top right corner. Then you can use the sidebar to add a custom attack for that secondary damage. You’ll still have to click twice to roll, but at least you’ll be able to click.
Though I presume that will get a more official, single-roll solution as they continue to work on the digital dice.
ok thank you
had a new character join my campaign. theyve claimed a character/made one and it shows up under my campaign on mobile but desktop it doesnt show the character. ive logged out and back in
I have a question, are there any firearms in dnd beyond? I want to make a gunslinger
but I dont see any musket nor pistoles
@little plume There are firearms
The official ones are found in the Dungeon Master's Guide, and there are homebrew ones associated with the gunslinger
Here are all the firearms on D&D Beyond
https://www.dndbeyond.com/equipment?filter-search=firearm&filter-cost-min=&filter-cost-max=&filter-weight-min=&filter-weight-max=
ah thanks, I will try to see to add them to my character
DM granted me an additional Eldritch Invocation, is there a way through creating a feat that I can add it to the sheet? I already have the Eldritch Adept feat ony warlock, so that option is out. Apologies if I'm in the wrong section to ask.
i have a question why as an English man with English money get refused access to something i am trying to pay for
What?
Your best option is probably to add it as a homebrew feat.
Did you need help with something?
Is there an option in homebrewing a feat to let me choose a feat, or should I make the feat giving me the benefits of the invocation?
The latter
Eldritch Adept itself was created using dark magics unavailable to us low-level users. 🙈
Ok, thank you for the response.
We've been rolling in D&D Beyond for our campaign. When we do, all of my rolls show up as a Custom roll, and don't include any stat bonuses. However, a couple of our group members have their rolls show up correctly as skill checks, etc. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong, or what I may not have configured?
What is "Party Time" ? The click to enable party time thing.
Are you using Beyond20 or any other extension that might be interacting with D&D Beyond's dice roller?
It's an easter egg that applies some minor graphical effects to the menu. Try clicking it and see what happens! 🙂
Hmmm... I don't see it making any changes.
Maybe try hovering over some other links?
Ah ha. Thanks!
Anyone familiar with homebrew content?
a little
I bought a subscription so I could add necromancer to my campaign, which I successfully did, but none of the spells came with it?
you added a homebrew necromancer subclass?
yes'r
What do you mean?
Ah, a homebrew subclass
?
When I open the spell management list on the character sheet none of the necromancer sub class spells are displayed, only wizard spells.
That seems to suggest the homebrew wasn't set up properly by the person who made it, I think
Oh, is there a tutorial?
Are they homebrew spells? Or existing spells? (If the latter, are they in the basic rules/SRD?)
I'm kind of a first time GM, our parties GM quit the campaign half way through. I'm trying to crash course my way into saving our sessions.
Also, do you have a link to the homebrew subclass?
they're homebrew spells
Yes I do hold on
This is the one that I had, but I think I understand what you mean now.
The spells are in a completely different area than the subclasses.
I misunderstood.
I had thought that they would all come together.
yeah, different realms of homebrew
and you can't attach homebrew spells and subclasses together
Really? That bites.
This... also doesn't look like a subclass, but rather an attempt to create a homebrew class (which is not possible in DDB at the moment) and incorrectly upload it to DDB as a wizard subclass. So even without the homebrew-spells issue, it won't work as the creator intended regardless.
from the looks of it, it was actually copy and pasted from this https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Necromancer_
alright, I have to;
dandwiki
...Ah.
(I assume you meant to link this page: https://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Necromancer_(5e_Class) )
Seems that way, I copy and pasted the one from the forum below.
Yeah, looks like the comment formatting didn't parse the URL as intended due to the parentheses
In that case, it definitely shouldn't have been published, as people shouldn't be publishing homebrew that is not their own creation.
I'm just trying to let my daughter be a necro for her first campaign, i'll make it up if I have to.
Sadly, homebrewing a class is not currently possible in D&D Beyond
So having it as a subclass to a wizard isn't a possibility?
