Those earlier screenshots are on the website, but this screenshot is showing it working on the app just as well:
I very much appreciate all of the information and assistance. I will attempt all of the suggested fixes and double check 🤔
For sure! The issue is definitely something on that list. If you try everything and are sure it's still not working, you might consider opening a support ticket. I suppose it's not impossible for something to be wrong with your account that could cause this sort of issue as well, and only support could dig into that possibility.
No the order isnt in my history...
No the transcation isnt pending, wizard of the coast got my money the moment i pressed, but I got no books, its already more than 24h and its a bit sad that this kind of stuff happens and I cant give my players a link to create their characters in the website... really annoying situation and zero help from the support.
This is the sms I got on my phone number as the transcation went in, checked my account and WOTC got the money and I didnt get my books XD
Just checked my account and licenses and entitlements and those are currently synced. Now I will go to the character sheets to make sure everything is accessible on those 🤔 👍 thank you again for the answers and I hope I can get this figured out.
All right… 🤦 how do I submit a support ticket for my account?
Can you try only vengeance
Do you have exes to the dungeon master guide
Are the other items from that book also missing?
I have access to the DMG 2024 version and yes, there are other items missing when I search for the sword of sharpness. It only brings up the grave, great ax, long sword, and Simar 🤷 Where the sword of vengeance doesn’t show up at all 🤔
They all show up in my library when I search for the specific items or open the manual itself on the app 🤷 🤨 the items are just not showing up in my inventory management on the app
Dous it say shared or nothing if you look here
Look at the message above
Crazeerob is vision impaired - please describe what they should be seeing as an image is less helpful
Dous it say shared or nothing is a better question
Changed it
Thanks!
trying to trouble shoot a there problem a bit but it looks like a bug or missinc somwere (I have appointments now soo someone els could help better)
I’m assuming this is the Paige that was mentioned earlier and this is what I currently have access to plus HOF and a I F with a few of the extended rules such as Tasha‘s and fizz band‘s books shared with me 🤷
Oke soo you own the book yourself
I recommend that you contact customer support here ---> https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=6098987232148
Thank you. Just submitted my support ticket.
When Making a Cleric Subclass on DND Beyond, what kind of feature should the spell list be? Granted, Addtional?
Your hit dice are determined by your class
You can use as many of them in your pool of hit dice when a feature says you can (such as taking a short rest and expending hit dice to regain hit points)
If you want the player to get the feature automatically, then Granted.
Thx
The size of your hit die, (d6, d8, etc.) is determined by your class.
Yes great clarification!
Your total number of hit dice is determined by your level.
Which is why your level 20 character has 20 of them.
When do I use save dc
A save DC is the target number for a saving throw.
If their total equals or exceeds the DC, they succeed.
Anything less and they fail.
The folks in #dnd-newcomers can explain more, if you’re still curious.
@uneven lantern Sorry bothering, but if you can help in any way please. Still no answer from the support or anyone...
Tickets are answered in the order they’re received, so the wait time will depend on how many tickets are ahead of yours.
They’re also answered during regular business hours in the US, so I wouldn’t expect them to answer here during the weekend.
But they’ll get you taken care of as soon as your turn comes.
Is anyone having issue with Dnd Beyond rolling 2 dice instead of one when advantage is not selected?
Can anyone teach me how to add an additional/seperate attack for the same homebrew weapon? (If its possible)
Are you on an iPad?
Nope, PC
Okay, nevermind on that part then. I assume you are rolling from the character sheet? Have you tried refreshing the page? Does it do it in a different browser?
Yes, yes, and yes
I managed to add the second damage die but it doesnt show up on the actions tab
Any chance you have Beyond20 installed and are rolling with its controls? Beyond20 sometimes rolls extra sets of dice so it can handle some of its functionality.
^ no one? 😭
My best suggestion is to equip another in inventory and customize each one individually. If the attacks are identical, I just click on the same attack for both.
The attacks are in fact identical but I just want my character sheet to look clean 😭
Well I guess it's not too big of a deal
What I wanted was the same attack but with radiant instead of its usual piercing
If it is a homebrew weapon I would probably duplicate it and change one to Radiant. But I am sure there is a more elegant solution.
Any extensions?
yeah the homebrew system doesn't currently allow for separate attack types coming from a single weapon, but maybe the pending rebuild will open it up to be more flexible.
Ok, checked our dashboards. We saw a momentary spike on a few metrics tonight, but nothing likely to explain what you experienced.
If you aren't using any extensions, can you double check it's still happening, then send me your Ddb username, browser and version, and any other relevant details about what you were doing that might help us recreate this?
Anyone know how I could make a weapon with a 1d10 die, finesse and light properties and vex mastery?
I was having some dice log issues tonight where rolls weren’t showing up. One of my players kept getting timeout errors specifically on loading the game log as well.
These seemed like outage issues since we weren’t really having any other problems and we were just using the site normally otherwise.
campaign ID? We've logged a few instances of these game log errors. We already had work planned this sprint to dig into the game log and make some improvements. This is definitely proving it's necessary.
Am currently away from my computer so will send it to you in the morning!
If I take an epic boon and select say, dexterity, it allows the stat to go beyond 20 and upto 30 total with Asis and stuff right?
Or is the boost from the epic boon the only thing that goes beyond the 20 cap
This. The boost from the epic boon that allows beyond 20 only works for that boost.
However, note other features can push a stat beyond 20 as well which the epic boon can stack with, such as the stat tome / manual (e.g., Tome of Clear Thought) or some of the Level 20 class capstones such as the Barbarian's Primal Champion.
I've kinda been using them as full stat uncaps and now that I've been informed I feel kinda stupid now
Luckily
I haven't used them as such in real campaigns yet
Thank you
when new versions of books such as tasha's cauldron or xanathar's guide come out will players who already own the books be able to buy the new versions at a discount at all?
New versions of those books haven’t even been announced.
Following up that the campaign ID for the campaign that I was experiencing these problems in last night between 9PM ET - 12:30AM ET is 2624775.
does anyone know any subclasses that check your level (in the relevant class) and divide it by 2 or something? I'm looking for markdown for something like that and can't think of anything
nevermind, I found one!
So a buddy of mine is wanting to DM, I own a lot of stuff on DDB, so he invited me into a campaign, I enabled content sharing, but when he tries to look at the book, it show the table of contents, but when he clicks a link, it takes him to buy the book instead
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
Is there an issue going on where all rolls from the character sheet are rolling with advantage?
I had a session last night and the rolls were set up as normal rolls, but if they didn't manually right click the roll and select flat roll it would roll everything with advantage. Every player I had experienced this issue
our party seems to roll 2 dice instead of 1 when clicking on.. anything..?
like, our druid just rolled survival and it rolled 2 d20s
no advantage, no nothing
i rolled to hit and it rolled 2 dice
on dnd beyond aboveVTT
AboveVTT is a 3rd-party application, & is not supported by DND Beyond. Try disabling that, & see if it's working after that.
well, we'll just do custom roles for now.
Trying to add the Staff of Defense to a character sheet from Lost Mines but the character sheet isn't finding it even though I can find it in the magic items under legacy. I have legacy turned on for the character but it's like it's not being seen. Any thoughts?
Ignore... looks like "sharing" all my content with the campaign and closing out the character sheet and opening again fixed things
Yeah everything's rolling twice and choosing the higher die (advantage) but in the logs it's not showing as an advantage roll it's weird
have not seen the double dice rolling issue; chrome, no plugins
@limpid flume I just went to aboveVTTs discord and it is an issue on their end. The roll protocols are separating out causing DDB to roll and AVTT to roll simultaneously
Theres a fix coming
i see - thanks
If they did do such a thing, it would be mostly new territory as rules are usually updated in a new book with a new name.
However, for an educated guess from experience, PH, DMG, and MM all had updated books and I am not aware of anyone receiving discounts for owning 2014 equivalents.
It might be a longshot, but if the DM has not already, try having the DM create a character in the campaign, even if just level 1. There might be some silly logic with sharing.
as a level 1 pugilist - i have access to the appropriate weapons, but as a level 1 pugilist + level 1 barbarian (multiclass), i lose the proficiency in pugilist weapons/improvised weapons despite it being my starter class?
this is how it looks as a level 1
this is how it looks as a level 2 (pugilist 1/barb 1)
Same character? Did you change colour scheme between pics?
I think you changed something in between. Here is Pugilist 1 / Barbarian 1, note proficiencies as you asked about.
Try removing Barbarian & see if they reappear? I would like to find out if base pugilist broke. @limpid flume
Changed schemes.
Let me check one second sorry
It's ok if you did. Just trying to sort out what else differs to figure out why it broke
Make sure to add the 5.5 one if possible. (I didn't test with the 5E one so not sure if it makes a diff.
Idk if it matters
But I'm using 2024 pugilist and 2014 barbarian
I'll check
I'll build a fresh character
Ah, I used 2024 barb. Some 2014 and 2024 classes don't mix well together.
-# DDB is silly with this sometimes but it does warm about it when you add classes.
Yep, the issue is with 2014
New character, 2024 vs 2014 barb
Is there a way to manually edit it then I guess?
Or to file feedback about it?
Probably a dedicated thread for the Pugilist on DDB somewhere too but I am not sure where.
Alrighty
Would I have to manually add every single proficiency then?
That's in that list?
Since I can't add/find "improvised weapons" on the list either
@dapper gazelle if I'm proficient with "simple weapons" and I see the weapon under this tab, then I'm proficient with it right?
Should be. You can test by checking if it adds proficiency on your Actions / Attacks tab.
Alright
Yeah I got a +7 to it
Still shows a 1d4 which was reportedly bugged
Then i made a custom tool called improvised weapons just so that I don't forget it exists
Yeah, homebrew and custom additions really help with DDBs current shortcomings. Fingers crossed for the planned backend upgrades to help with some of this.
@dapper gazelle do you know where's the pugilist feedback forum post? I can't find it
In particular the one about bugs
Welcome to the Support Thread for The Pugilist Class!
If you find any issues with the content from the sourcebook, or using it on a D&D Beyond character...
thank you!
I know this is already mostly resolved, but I'll note you don't need the long list of individual weapons anymore, as all of those weapons fall under either simple or martial. There are exactly zero weapons that aren't in one of those two categories.
If you notice, it's not in that list, and Beyond has no way of tracking improvised weapons.
Yeah that's what I meant.
It should be added.
Since pugilists are proficient in it
It's a case-by-case basis. You'll have to manually add the prof. bonus to an improvised weapon, depending on whether or not it's an analogue to a weapon like a shortsword.
Just make a generalized "improvised weapons" the same way there's a simple one and slap it to pugilist
I'm not sure if anyone has improvised weapons show up in that list, is what I'm saying.
No one does I'd assume, but pugilist needs it
Because Beyond can't track it in any meaningful way.
Pugilist IS proficient in improvised weapons
So is anyone with Tavern Brawler, but it's not there either.
Yes, but you'll have to manually tinker with the character sheet.
So they can just make a singular "improvised weapons" title and make it automatically anchored to pugilist
Or to tavern brawler in thst case
There's no point, because there is no improvised weapon to attach the code to.
Yeah I added it under custom tools just so I don't forget it
You don't need to attach it to any weapon
That's a good idea.
It's tedious, but once it's set up, you should be good.
The idea is to just have it there so both the dm and player don't forget it's a feature
Took less than a minute tbh
Since there's basically NO mention of it on the character sheet
...Fair.
We had a great session and a pivotal turning point that took a bit over an hour for my character to turn from a level 1 fighter to, a now level 2 half barbarian half pugilist
So now I can officially drop kick some fools
Just wish they fix the 1d4 on brass knuckles
Or any pugilist weapon tbh
They also use improvised weapons with their pugilist damage die, so there's functionally no difference if you just roll the unarmed strike as normal and just announce its an improvised weapon i think.
This is not about functionality
This is purely about simply having the text there so it's recognizable/trackable
It isn't that deep like I said I added it as a custom tool so it's written
But it should just be featured as a proficiency for pugilists/tavern bralwers
It doesn't need to link to any weapon or do anything
Just exist so it's trackable
Hey, rolls of my players don't show up on my end unless they're at adv/disadv
They can see everything
I could see other rolls until yesterday
Anyone else getting a 500 Error when you try to open a link to a public character sheet, even if it’s your own character?
hey yall, creating a paladin subclass for my campaign rn. just wanted to ask for help in doing so? here im trying to make an oath-specific spell list (similar to the one in the second image), but just wondering what options to select/deselect for it
What you’ve got there looks good for the feature itself. After you save that, you’ll see a Spells section you can use to add the spells themselves.
Add each one as a separate entry. Just put the name, and set “Always Prepared” and “Uses Spell Slot” to Yes for each one.
You can make a homebrew copy of an official subclass like Oath of Devotion if you want to see how that was set up.
i figured it out (: ended up using a template and just editing that
Hey im tryna make a homebrew spell for my campaign. how can i set what spell level it is?
any one else get a "choice" in the "acid resistance" trait of Water Genasi?
You should see a Spell Level field there near the start.
Yeah, that’s a known issue at the moment.
At least though, even if you do not select anything, the Features & Traits page & Defences section reflect the Acid Resistance properly. If you will, more a display bug than missing functionality.
Thanks!
just trying to confirm is dndbeyond gonna have maintence today? i never got a banner for some reason?
It should be in progress now, but I’m pretty sure it’s specific to Maps.
If you’re not using Maps, I don’t think you’ll be effected.
ah okay. fair, part of me is hopeful it will also come with the long awaited book release
Hello, thanks in advance. I was typing to try and get assistance with my app. I have upgraded to MAX tier but can’t use classes or races other than standard core and the one blood hunter class.
I have LOADS of books shared with me, and want to know if there is something I need to do to access the additional content, I already have every possible checkmark on the first screen selected then when I move to class it changes nothing.
A couple of notes here:
- subscription level does not increase or decrease access to books
- to access content shared with you in the character creator, you must put this specific character in the campaign that is sharing the content with you.
Can I cancel my subscription without charge then. (It was just purchased?)
That you have to talk to support about. Note though that if you remove all sub levels, you will lose access to Homebrew, as well as be limited to six characters. But, if this is acceptable, I suspect support should be able to help you with the removal of your subscription.
?tag ddb support
D&D Beyond customer support can be contacted at the link below. Requests are answered in the order they're received, during regular business hours. Submitting multiple requests for the same issue can result in a delayed response.
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
I have no clue what “sub level” means.
Also what “homebrew content” like I said after getting the highest tier. Nothing changed.
Thank you for your speedy responses.
Oh, sorry. I meant subscription level.
There is a Hero Tier in between that gives you access to more than 6 characters and to Homebrew which may be of interest. The Hero Tier is targeted at players whereas Master Tier is targeted at DMs.
Okay, and about the “homebrew content”?
BTW, I don't work for Wizards or anything. Just indicating the other reasons people tend to sub. If they are not relevant to you, removal of the subscription would make the most sense.
Homebrew is how Beyond handles a lot of the things that don't have properly built functionality for.
As an example, you see something in Unearthed Arcana you want to play, you want to create your own version of something, or maybe the designers just haven't bothered to or haven't gotten around to creating something, Homebrew can allow such things to be created, as well as you can access the large archive of things that other users have shared. Without access to a subscription that grants Homebrew, none of that is available.
And this can pertain to classes and races to add to the selections right?
If so how can I find them to use? I have been trying to search the app itself
You can take a look at the homebrew while you are waiting on Cudtomer Support to get back to you on the removal.
Hello All, I want to reach my homebrew or campaign and I cannot find it today.
Class access to us non Wizards people is limited due to the engine itself... But most other things are customizable.
To see Homebrew, note it does not work on the app. You need to be on the website. Once added to a character though, the homebrew will function in the app.
They are doing maintenance right now. Started a little less than an hour ago. Certain services are affected.
Excellent, thanks for the confirmation I will check back later today
Thank you very much
A subscription lets you use any of the publicly-shared homebrew that other users have created.
You don’t need a subscription to create and use your own homebrew, or to share homebrew in your campaigns.
You can update or cancel your subscription here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
If you’re still on the free trial, you can cancel now and continue to use it for the rest of that 30-day period.
You should be able to find those under the “Play D&D” menu. Same location as before, just a new name.
Is it okay if I would ask for someone with the subscription to hop on the campaign for book sharing for simplifying the character creation for other players? I, myself, have the sourcebooks, but I can't afford a subscription D:
You could make the characters for your players, or at least with them, as an unassigned character and have them claim that character when they join your campaign
Is anyone able to help me with a wizard build? I tried using the dndbeyond character creator but when I got to the sheet at the end my spells and cantrips are all messed up and I have no idea how to fix or change them
For build discussion, #character-discussion is what you want. If you have an issue with the DNDB interface, you can post a screenshot here of your spells list and we can see what the issue is.
Is it possible to exit out of campaign content sharing to go back to the campaign you're in? Whenever I click on content management, it takes me to the screen to enable what sources to allow, but it looks like there's no way to get out of it and to go back to the campaign page
Delete the /content-management from the end of the URL is the only way.
okay thank you. I also just been hitting the back button too lol
Had anyone reported dice issues? Me (the dm) and multiple of my players ran into an issue whee when any macro on the character sheet was pressed to roll a dice it would toll 2 or more dice and randomly choose which dice to keep in the log. Had anther player that had this shame issue but it would specifically show all rolled dice in the log
I believe they found that bug and it should be resolved. But also make sure to disable any browser extensions like Beyond20 or similar which can interefere with D&DBeyond functionality
If you still see that issue, please let us know and we can pass that on back to Zach.
It would be helpful to know what browser and device is being used (or mobile app on what device)
And no Beyond20 extension enabled?
You might also have everyone try and clear their browser cache and re-login to D&DBeyond
Perhaps some stale server caching is causing issues...
Above vtt was enabled but we tested after disabling the extension and it still happened multiple times......what did improve the situation was clearing cache and browsing history for the browser and resigning into the campaign but that only allowed us to manually roll the digital dice.....still couldn't use the character sheet macros
Yeah AboveVTT could also cause issues.
Can someone explain to me like I'm five how I'm supposed to make subclass feature tables & spell list tables on D&D Beyond? This is for Subclass Homebrew
Zac said the team isolated a bug related to dice rolls not showing up last Thursday, I believe, and that it would be getting worked this week. Possibly that it is related.
Let me see if I can find the post.
It's not a subject for 5 year olds unfortunately. Subclasses are some of the hardest bits of homebrew to create. You're best off finding an existing subclass that has similar mechanics to use as a point of reference and making a copy of that and tweaking to suit.
Yup, here: #ddb-feedback message
It's not completely up-to-date for 5.5e but it's sufficient to hit the ELI5 points and should at least get you started.
@uneven lantern Well, WotC Support is not helping. They are treating me as if I were a fool, telling me that I need to buy the content in order to have it, when $75 was already deducted from my account and I still did not receive any of the digital books I purchased on the website.
This shows a high level of amateurism and reflects very poorly on how WotC handles its customers. It is honestly shameful to see such a mediocre level of support for an issue that should be resolvable in just a few minutes.
It's either copy & pasting the table from another subclass & pasting, which I can't do for some reason, at least on mobile, or putting source code for a table. Copied & pasted the HTML code for the table with the Source code feature & nothing
At this point I dont want the books, I want my money bakc, and I dont want to use that website or give any penny to this company really....
Homebrew is not supported on mobile. You can kind of jank it together sometimes, but it's fairly restricted. I recommend using a PC for this. Also, homebrew isn't about just copying/pasting HTML tables into the text, you also need to hook up the character sheet interactions which that post begins to walk you through.
It is fairly likely that your bank has just issued a hold on the funds if WOTC support is telling you that you have not purchased it. Have you reached out to your bank about this? Either way, if you want a refund for your purchase, only WOTC support can provide assistance with that (but you should really check with your bank first because it sounds like the payment never processed).
I checked with my bank before doing anything further, and WOTC did receive the funds. When I purchased the three digital books, I briefly saw an error message on D&D Beyond after the transaction was processing. Then I received the bank SMS, and I also checked my banking app online to confirm that WOTC had indeed received the money.
It's probably that error that needs resolving.
Do you have the error code?
If WOTC support is telling you that they aren't seeing the purchase on their end and you have no email, receipt, or confirmation for the purchase, then the purchase did not go through. If WOTC support does not have any other avenue for resolution here and your bank seems convinced that the purchase happened, your best option is to issue a chargeback through your bank, acknowledging that this will result in your DNDBeyond account being banned.
But really, this just boils down to being patient with WOTC support because it ensures the best outcome for you and listening to their instructions. Frustrations only make the interactions harder for everyone involved, including you by making it tougher to actually resolve your issue.
Just FYI, the statement they supposedly made is correct in that a subscription to Beyond has little to no eligibility to content. The books are purchased separately.
On the cancellation, Beyond Support can be an exercise in patience but they usually eventually come to a solution but happening slowly is quite common.
Also, not sure if you tried it already but if it is still first 30 days, you might be able to cancel it yourself. See this series of posts here: #ddb-support message
If you are using extensions (AboveVTT, beyond20, etc), unfortunately it's up to those developers to fix those issues.
We are not intentionally breaking anything for them, but we have been making a lot of improvements and updates to our dice service, and that can cause problems on platforms unofficially built on top of ours.
There were some other issues we fixed late last week - if you had extensions disabled and were experiencing problems then, try again (with extensions disabled) and let me know if you are still experiencing them.
none of my maps will load and been having this problem for hours
Make sure to disable any browser extensions like Beyond20/AboveVTT that can interfere with D&DBeyond functionality and try clearing your browser cache and restarting your browser. Let us know if the issue persists after that - if so, providing your browser and device details can be helpful.
Ill test it tonight when I can get to my computer
I seem to still have issues rolling digital dice on the character sheet on my iPad Pro via the browser, anyone have suggestions or fixes?
what sort of issues?
Lagging when pressing the modifier roll buttons, no dice rolling when pressed also, game log not updating. I have dice rolls set to only me, with the most simple basic dice activated. Everything seems fine for a while and then slows down. Reloading the page helps but I have to keep doing so every so often. Also being in the character editor forces a reload often but that doesn’t seem related to the dice
Are there any updates to when the books 'Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting: Part 2 (2014)' (Early March) and 'The Griffon’s Saddlebag: Book One (2024)' (Late March) are to be released on DDB? 🤔
I don’t play in full screen, I run the character sheets on the browser in multitasking mode
They have not posted any updates. I personally expect Heliana's later today (currently it's still super early for west coast). If so then expect Saddlebag Book 1 on the 31st.
I believe they've said that books are released on Tuesdays, so today looks promising
Heliana's part 2 came out just now.
Thank you
Hmmm... Can't click on things that open a sub-menu, e.g. items, spells, etc.
anyone else having issues with the the sidebox (that opens for spell descriptions and so on) on the character page? mine is opening below the character sheet
scroll down
-distressed gasp- Witchcraft!
having the same issue, took me a couple of minutes to find it. i thought the same, that it wasnt working at first
I can at least work with this.
Oh, Firefox browserv148.0.2 (64-bit) on Windows 11 25H2 26200.8037, FWIW.
website layout seems to be broken, refreshing and restarting computer did not work
- @royal marlin looking into this.
@royal marlin + @marsh needle + @mild agate sidebar issue is fixed.
Confirmed, thank you!
yeah thanks
my +1 item is giving me -1 damage
Do you have a -2 STR and +2 PB?
yes, but does the nerf still apply to true strike since it uses my spellcasting modifier?
Nothing there is being nerfed. The +1 is there and working. You’d have a -2 without it.
-2 + 1 = -1
does true strike not apply my spellcasting modifier to the damage rolls?
It does, but what you’re seeing there uses your STR mod.
It won't to the weapon itself, no, since DDB has no way to know whether or not the attack is being made with True Strike. But the cantrip itself should have its own damage roll
I believe it defaults to your highest damage weapon, however
it doesn't seem to have it roll for damage at all
i clicked on it and it just says zero
Ah, I have the spell on a higher-level character, that's my bad
That’s for the added damage that kicks in at level 5.
You can always add a second weapon/attack and customize it to match your spellcasting modifier, but DDB won't apply it automatically
☝️ That’s what I’ve done here:
how do you change the icons
Hello! I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to add ASI's (+2/+1 or +1/+1/+1) to a homebrewed race in D&DB. I tried doing it myself but this is all it does (note that the +1 increase to Dexterity comes from a feat)
I basically made a racial feature called "Ability Score Improvement" and added two options as seen in the image below. Then in those options I created modifiers to allow the player to choose which ability score is increased either by 1 or 2 as seen in the images above
If you're using a 2024 character, you need to select a Background for the character in order to select the starting ASIs for it.
Example:
I'm aware, I'm more trying to make this race also compatible with the 2014 rules as well as 2014 backgrounds and custom backgrounds which don't have ASIs already built in
You generally don’t want Options to be Granted.
Did you set the Fixed Value for those Modifiers as well?
Ah shoot, that's what I was missing XD
Apologies, I'm still new to using the homebrew engine
No worries! That’s what this channel’s here for!
It works like a charm! Thank you!
Hey all! New to the server, but not new to DnDBeyond, but I seem to be having some trouble keeping up with the updates 😅
What, specifically, are you having trouble with?
A few years ago, I was able to make a few weapons/items and had full control over things like types of damage and +To Hit, charges etc. But now, it seems, most of those intuitive, easy-to-use features are either gone or not as intuitive as they used to be.
Everything you just said is still supported, yes.
In the customize section of the item in the sidebar, you can expand it to find this:
Hang on... I'm still working on an answer to your first question
In this specific case, I'm trying to create a sai (a three-pronged dagger-like weapon) with damage die that's more accurate to the weapon itself, with a but of oomph for fun.
I went to "Create a..." and chose "Magic Item," then selected "Weapon" with "Dagger" as base weapon. I then used modifiers to add the damage dice I wanted to add. When I equip the item, the only rollable damage is the basic 1d4. Sure, the others are written next to it, but that's not how it should be.
Ah, well that has never been supported in DNDBeyond, so you are misremembering there. You can add the other dice as a Custom Action on your sheet, however:
I also tried creating just a wonderous item with damage modifiers, but when I went to add the item, they didn't show up in the item description page the same way as other weapons do.
What has never been an option?
Adding additional damage dice to the damage roll of a weapon inline with the baseline dice.
You could set the whole thing up as a single custom action if all the dice are the same size.
Otherwise you'd need to use a few custom actions.
In D&DBeyond, since the beginning, magic weapons were based off a base weapon type. This means they could only have that type of damage dice associated with the base weapon.
The custom actions that RisingDusk noted have more flexibility but yes, you may need to create several custom actions if your specific weapon does multiple types of damage with different damage dice...
Example:
It definitely was a feature about 5 years ago. I had a sword that did slashing and fire damage and there used to be two damage die buttons.
You may have had a third-party extension enabled which allowed it. Those are not maintained by the DNDBeyond staff, however.
Beyond20 is a popular one which allows it by scraping the site and converting HTML into dice rolls in post-script, but is a bit broken right now as far as I am aware.
To this day I have no idea how use thrid party extensions on the site.
Things on the Chrome Web Store or FireFox Add-On manager can be installed which do so. Anyway, that's the only thing which could have enabled what you are describing.
The developers are aware of the desire to do this, and it is potentially on the horizon for after the rebuild described in the roadmap.
Yes, it had a base damage type, but I distinctly remember being able to adjust what die it was ans add additional dice from the item page, not the inventory window on the character sheet.
@vernal fractal seems like the little bit of testing i did last night confirmed the issue was resolved for me and one other party member. Big boss fight coming up this weekend for the party so we will put it through its paces
UndyingNoob's correct, though, that has never been a functionality. You're definitely either misremembering or had an extension installed that did it.
Anyway, the workarounds for this are posted above.
So there's no way to create a weapon from scratch and select the appropriate base damage?
You can create a custom Attack action on the front end of the sheet and set it to be whatever damage dice you want.
It's the easiest and most flexible way to handle it
You can create a magic item based on any existing item, but what shows in the damage roll for that item will be what the base weapon uses. (ie. Greatsword base will show a 2d6). There's no way to homebrew baseline item types at this time.
These workarounds seem to all done from the character sheet. Are they stored with the character, or the item?
Like. If I make changes to the item for one character and said character "gives" the item to another within the campaign, will those custom actions move with the item?
Custom actions are tied to teh character sheet
You could make a feat which adds an action and use something more flexible there, but it's still going to be just one dice roll... You can't do something like 3d8+2d4 or whatever.
What do you mean by "front end?"
Huh. That seems like a huge oversight 😅
It's not an oversight, just a limitation from 20+ year old code that takes a lot of effort to rewrite.
Meaning you go to the Actions tab on the front of your character sheet on the website, click the Manage Custom link, add a New Action and tweak to suit.
They are actively working on the rebuild required to open some of this functionality up.
So, if, in some future campaign, I want to bestow an item to a player whose character sheet I don't have access to, is there a way for me to ensure the appropriate damage types show up if they were to add the item from the Homebrew community?
I'd just make a homebrew magic item and then set it up with the extra damage dice in the side section as you already have, then tell them to make their own custom actions. Related, but if you are DMing the campaign on DNDBeyond then as the DM you would have access to any character sheet in any campaign you DM.
But. Telling them to make their own custom actions takes so much fun out of giving them a ready-to-go item 😭😭😭😅😅😆😆
Again you can add those custom actions to their sheet if you're the DM and that character is in your D&DBeyond Campaign
To follow the related tangent, I know that any players in my campaign will have access to all the source books I've paid for, but if a particular player has additional ones that I don't have, how we able to stay on the same page about character features from those books?
- Someone has to enable Content Sharing for the campaign to actually share source books within it
- Any book owned by any member of the campaign is shared to all other members
- You would have a session 0 to talk about what is allowed or otherwise; this concept can be discussed at greater length in #dm-discussion
(Also, neat trick: You can enable/disable certain types of rules in bulk on a per-character basis)
So it's more of a pre-session "Hey, I added an item to your character's inventory," rather than a mid-session "Here's this item you've found along the way" kind of thing?
Or, alternatively, "Here's this item. You can add it now, but I'll have to fix it after this session."
I've definitely used that feature recently
Sure? You can explain it however you want.
Okies. Thanks for your patience ☺️🥰☺️ @edgy oriole and @dire blade
What do you mean by boost? You can subscribe to share content in it, but that’s pretty much all I can think of.
Oh, you mean in the #looking-for-players channels? You can only repost it once every 1 week to give everyone a chance. This is just the Discord bot behavior for it. It’s not really intended to support bumping or advertisements.
That’s not really DNDBeyond related though.
How do I add spells to a spell list using a Homebrew Feat? I've gone through all of the feats, and unless I've missed one, I don't see any that adds spells without also just giving the spell to the character
That’s not currently possible with a homebrew feat. You’d need a homebrew subclass, species, or background.
You can also browse through the posts in #looking-for-dm and reply to any you’re interested in.
Darn. Oh well, thanks anyway
Is anyone else having trouble signing in to DDB with their Wizards account? Every time I click login, nothing happens.
Hey, I'm trying to build my warlock using the 2024 rules and even though I have pact of the tome, I still cannot get aspect of the moon.
Any help would be appreciated.
5e-exclusive Warlock Invocations do not work on 5.5e characters for now. Check back after Character Builder 2.0 comes into play
Trying to upload my homebrew sorcerer subclass, but it says that my levels are incorrect, despite the fact that it isn't. If someone could help me through this it would be appreciated.
Make sure to disable any VPN, ad-blockers, or browser extensions that may interact with &DDBeyond functionality (like Beyond20 or AboveVTT). Also try clearing out your browser cache and restarting your browser. See if that helps.
Remember you don't have to publish your homebrew to be able to use it on your own characters or in D&DBeyond campaigns you're in. In fact we highly encourage folks to not publish homebrew until it's been throughly playtested because once published, it will exist in that state forever. So ignoring the warning is fine if you're not ready to publish it yet.
It all depends what you've added if i remember correctly from past experience. Things like spells listed (as in did you list spells) for levels 3, 5, 7 & 9 are checked so are special abilities at lvl 3, 6, 14 and 18 (this is also dependent on class, for example barbarian sub classes get abilities at 3, 6, 10, and 14).
Some classes also need hidden level 1 features for their subclasses to successfully publish. I know that's true of the Fighter but think it applies elsewhere.
In general I'd recommend against publishing any homebrew for personal games. It's not actually helpful and just makes it tougher on you for no gain.
Pretty sure that was fixed.
It was an issue for Fighters and Rogues, not Sorcerers.
You’d need a Granted feature at each of the usual levels for that class. (The specific levels differ between 5e and 5.5e Sorcerer.)
If you’ve got those already, try hitting the main Save button for the subclass again. That should retrigger the validation and hopefully clear the error. If not, you’ll have to dig deeper to figure out what’s missing.
And again, that error only even matters if you’re trying to publish it for the global community. Otherwise, it’s automatically shared with your campaign and can already be used as-is.
Good to know that was fixed!
No luck. I've tried several browsers, cleared caches and cookies, no VPN or ad blockers.
Any other ideas?
At this point it’s time to check in with customer support.

Thanks! I started one when I asked last night but haven't heard anything.
Yeah it may take a couple of days - do make sure to double check your spam/junk filters just in case their response gets caught there
I have an odd problem. Toll the Dead and Witch Bolt have vanished from available wizard spells for multiple wizard characters in D&D Beyond. This possibly extends to other spells but these are the only ones I can confirm. I have checked for filters and such and even created a test wizard character to see if it was a problem associated with a particular campaign.
Both of those spells are in the PHB but not the Basic Rules, which likely means that someone who was content sharing the PHB to you is no longer doing so.
Confirmed from the DM. Thanks for the help.
I've had asked this question with a few months of time in between to see if anything has either been reaching closer to the roadmap for the site, or just anything in general.
But has there been any progress or plans on making official support for Homebrew classes? Not referring to subclasses, I'm referring to base classes.
It's low-priority
Nothing has been announced, if it's something they are considering it will likely be after the back end overhaul
& even then, it's low priority
I purchased the Grim Hollow digital book, but I can’t access or read it even though it shows as already bought.
They’ve said in recent AMAs that they’ll look at homebrew improvements sometime after the upcoming Game Platform is released, likely starting with monsters.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/en/roadmap
so when using the digital dice and rolling to vtt (like roll20) the dice are not syncing at all with the rolls, has there been an anouncement on a fix for that or?
Does the app or site calculate things like carrying capacity or jumping height or distance?
DDB has no built-in option for that. If you’re using a third-party extension, you may need to check with them.
I've noticed that, when making Homebrew items, that I get a warning against being able to publish because the description contains External Links, but the links I've included are all DnDBeyond sites. Is there a workaround?
Carrying capacity can be found on the Inventory tab by clicking “Weight Carried” in the top left corner.
The jump rules can be found by clicking on your walking speed. I don’t think the actual numbers are calculated and displayed anywhere, though. You could add a custom action to your sheet for that, though.
You don't have to publish homebrew to be able to use it for your own characters or D&DBeyond campaigns you're in. Publishing is only needed if you want to make it publicaly accessible and usable by anyone on D&DBeyond and this should only be done after you've thoroughly playtested. Otherwise you'll need to only reference SRD/Free Basic Rules materials and not link to anything else and also ensure your creation is suitably different from official content and third-party content.
I see the weight carried on the app, but tapping doesn’t show my character’s carrying capacity. I haven’t looked for this before today tho.
Should be there at the top of the sidebar.
Are you using any extensions? If so, that bug is up to the extension developer to fix.
Thank you! I found it on the site.
Is there any update on the missing monster art for Exploring Eberron?
Which missing art? They did finally add the Plasmid's art to its monster stat block, which was the only one I was aware of.
Ah, wait, I see the issue. They added large art but not token art so it doesn't work in Maps. Good catch.
Will report it.
Looks like the same is true for Valaara.
I’ll get those flagged with the devs tomorrow.
Yeah I posted it all to #ddb-feedback with another bug I noticed.
I meant the art here, dunno if thats token art but thats the one I meant
I'm looking at naking some feats right now, and I just realized... There is no Modifyer that gives a choice of Wisdom or Charisma! There's one that is EInt, Wis or Cha, there's one that is Con or Wis, and so on and so forth, but none for +1 to Wisdom or Charisma
Yep, these are the ones that spam and I were addressing. It'll get reported to the devs tomorrow morning. Thanks for reporting!
(Spam is doing all the hard work, I'm just sort of here)
I have a problem where my character sheet keeps on rolling twice for everything, damages, attack rolls, etc.
I can't help but notice there's no Tantan item, at least not showing up despite 5.5E sources selected.
Are you using Beyond 20 there? Does the same issue happen with Beyond 20 disabled?
Since it’s from SCAG, you’d need 5e Expanded Rules enabled first.
I cannot believe this. I actually solved the problem by turning it off and on again, technology is weird (Nevermind, it reverted back after 5 minutes.)
Truly? That’s odd. It shows up for proficiencies to select even though you need the book just to select the item in inventory.
Asked in the homebrew channel but was directed here
I’m trying to make a magic item in DDB that is medium armor but grants a bonus to AC equal to your full DEX modifier. How would I do this? I’ve tried everything I can think of but the bonus isn’t working in the character sheet.
There’s a Modifier for that.
I tried that lol
Type: Set, Subtype: AC Max Dex Modifier
You could make a copy of Serpent Scale Armor if you want a working comparison.
I’ll try that and get back to you to see if it’s a glitch
The site doesn’t allow me to copy that item, presumably because I don’t own the source
I’ve set the modifier exactly as you have said, but it has removed the DEX bonus to AC entirely? With a +4 to DEX, the character should have an AC of 19, but the AC is only 15 for some reason
I finally got it to work!
What was the issue?
I needed to reset the fixed value to the value of the base AC of the armor
The confusion came from the fact that the deficit of the missing base AC was the same as the DEX modifier, so I thought that it wasn’t applying the mod when the problem was really the base AC
Could someone help me? I just purchased the Grim Hollow book, but I can’t access it. It shows that I’ve already bought it, though. What should I do?
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
I’ve already checked that, and this is still what shows up.
On the left, you’ve purchased the Grim Hollow Player Pack.
On the right, you’re trying to open the Grim Hollow Player’s Guide.
They’re two different books.
You can view the Player Pack here:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/ghpp/grim-hollow-player-pack
Or purchase the Player’s Guide here:
https://marketplace.dndbeyond.com/category/DBCMZU4R2
Oh, about that, I’ve completed the payment and D&D Beyond says I already own the item, but I still can’t access it.
Sorry, the notification is in Indonesian.
Ah. There might have been a disconnect between Google and DDB, then.
I’d try force closing and restarting the app. Then if you click your avatar in the top left corner, you should be able to find a Restore Purchases option.
If that doesn’t work, you’ll probably want to contact customer support. Make sure to include the order number from Google. It should be in your purchase confirmation email. It’s an A followed by a series of numbers.

Ok my bad
Why do Monster Harvesting Tools show up with the default 5.5E settings? I don't recall where they're from.
Question: am i reading the evil eye spell from Cthulhu by torchlight correctly -- no save, no hit roll, target simply is hexed for d4+2 (cantrip scaled) and has the added affect of extended crit range -- as a cantrip?!?
#third-party can help with those kinds of rules questions, but yes.
ok... but wow... thats a bit ... by lvl 11 its better than MM and its psych damage literally the best in the game for resistances.
You’re welcome to discuss it in #third-party.
(This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond itself.)
It is from monsters of drakenheim (which is 2024)
Odd. It shouldn't be showing up then if Partnered Content is off, right? It shows up 3x in the tool options even though I only have 5.5E Core and Expanded Rules visible.
As a dm, how do I post in “looking for players”?
Post /looking-for players in #find-a-game and fill in the form
Is D&D Beyond's homebrew monster maker not working for anyone else?
Seems to be working for me. Do you have any web extensions or vpns that could be getting in the way?
And what are you doing when it stops working for you?
I don't have either. When i finish filling everything out and click Create Monster, this page pops up:
I've tried leaving non-required fields blank, clearing my cache/cookies/history, logging out and back in, and even using a different browser.
Are you uploading images as part of the edits?
Homebrew monsters will throw this error message if you're uploading images all at once with a combined filesize of 4.8MB or higher (it's supposed to be 5MB but it does some file transfer rounding magic which makes roughly 4.8 the magic number). You can solve it by uploading the two images in separate saves of the page or shrinking the files in external apps (ie. Paint).
My request keeps getting rejected, what should I do?
What do you mean? What exactly did you say, and what was their response?
This is what they said.
Can I ask a question or two about Homebrew feats?
Seems from that you will need to contact Google.
That kind of answer sounds like "Google hasn't given us money yet so we cannot give you your money back without help from them." At least that is what I think I am seeing there.
You can ask. I am sure if someone who is on has an answer, they should say something.
I want to allow a character in the party to add their Proficiency Bonus to CON Saves for a specific spell.
From the character sheet, I went poking around the Saving Throw settings, the Proficiencies and Training section, even Extras. Nothing really jumped out at me.
Then I thought a Feat could do it. So I created a Homebrew Feat. I filled in the appropriate description and added a Modifier. Type: Proficiency Subtype: Con Save.
I then went back to the character sheet and added it.
Despite the description, it seems to have added PB to all CON Saves.
Also, after adding the Feat, I went to the Feat section of the character sheet and discovered thay only the name of the feat showed up, not the description. The description for their other Feat is there, though.
I did see that the description comes up in the side panel when I click on it, but I'd rather it be more at-a-glance.
I thought it might be what the Snippet section was for, so I tried adding stuff to there, but it didn't do anything. Well. Whatever it did do, fixing the problem like I hoped wasn't it haha
Any ideas about how to best go about making it obvious on the character sheet?
I’d reply back to DDB. Tell them the Google purchase was successful, but the book was not added to your Current Product Licenses and can’t be used. Make sure to include that transaction ID from the second image.
A Modifier Description is just text. It won’t restrict anything on your character sheet. You could try, though…
- Type: Bonus
- Subtype: Saving Throws
- Description: +2 on saves against [spell]
The Snippet field should indeed solve your second issue, but sometimes homebrew edits can take up to 15 minutes to appear on your sheet. Has that text now appeared?
Was reading up for my campaign this weekend and noticed D&D Beyond has the wrong image for the Gryphon Riders in the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist book. It was pretty obvious because it looks like they accidentally used the same image twice in a row.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/wdh/volos-waterdeep-enchiridion#TheGriffonCavalry
It's showing the image from the City of the Dead.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/wdh/volos-waterdeep-enchiridion#CityoftheDead
I did some checking and I am pretty sure I found the correct image on wikis and other sites showing the Gryphon Riders flying over some buildings with some halflings in the street.
Anyone know where I can find a DDB character sheet for Drizzt?
There isn’t an official one AFAIK, but you could try asking in #character-discussion to see if anyone else has made one.
Chris Perkins made a stat block for Drizzt's once a while back but it was not well received. I don't think it reflects the characters very well at all.
I’ve got a puzzle. Does anyone know where Pistol, Automatic comes from?
It’s tagged to the DMG, but the table there only shows an automatic rifle, not a pistol.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/dmg-2024/dms-toolbox#FirearmsTable
I don’t see it in the PHB, GHPG, TGC, AV, or the Gunslinger Fighter subclass either.
Ah, there’s one in the 2014 DMG…
is there a chance it's in the physical DMG and not showing up in the digital is a typo?
I think it might be another case like the Boomerang where a base item might have been needed to support other items.
I’m wondering that myself.
I'm too lazy to go down stairs to find mine
No worries!
Did they ever fix the weapons with this wording layout not adding profincieny correctly?
The automatic pistol should probably have it's tag updated to reflect it's a 2014 DMG item because I can now confirm it hasn't been reprinted in a 2024 book yet.
Yeah, it’s looking like they just renamed it between the two books (and added the Vex mastery).
What do you mean by wording layout?
Ive posted about it before. But wording layout may not be the right words

Conversely, if you were experiencing that issue consistently and are no longer, please also let me know. 🙂
Is Homebrew down? I keep trying to create an NPC/Monster stat block and every time I go to save it I’m getting an internal server error
Silly question, has anyone had one of their homebrew items spontaneously rename itself... to a forum post?
Thankfully it's not a homebrew I'm using, but it threw me off quite a bit on my way scrolling down to one I am
No, but are you uploading images as part of the edits perchance? I answered a near-identical question yesterday and it's a pretty common error for folks to hit: #ddb-support message
That has to be it
I thiiink there’s a browser extension that causes this, but I don’t remember which one.
Some kind of search something, maybe.
If you open the same link in another browser, does it show the correct name?
I don't believe it'd be that, because it's actually changed the url as if I'd named the creature that, and I can freely change the name to anything but the original, as that just reapplies the forum post title. But it never hurts to try
Okay, it looks fine in Chrome, which is intentionally clean because I only use it when the vtt is having a fit. But I can still see the url is changed to forum post
So Firefox, my usual, displays the name incorrectly, and the URL matches that name, and this is with the only extension that could be doing that off. Chrome, clean as a whistle, displays the right name but still at the very wrong url. Private Firefox window displays the same thing as Chrome
Has the patch already rolled out? Still missing dice rolls. I've checked on Chrome, Edge, Brave, and Firefox.
How does tracking XP work in D&D Beyond? I had a hard time figuring out how to update XP
My players have been asking me for something that I have seen offered on weapons. They are hoping that I can find a way to give it to them with other items. That being the button that allows them to add an item to their action menu. It seems that it should be an easy fix, but I'm just not seeing it. Any help/guidance would be most appreciated Oh Most High Ones.
In your character settings is a field called Advancement Type. You’ll need to change that to XP.
Then you’ll see an XP tracker on the sheet below your character name.
That’s not currently possible, but you could add a custom action directly on the sheet.
Just head to the Actions tab and click Manage Custom in the top right corner.
Query: how do I write the stat block so that my homebrew spells show up in my homebrew monster final page?
Hey, I'm making a homebrew species and am wanting to add a fly speed for a variant
Some rolls arent appearing in avrae from DDB. Rolls are working as of right now, but sometimes theres one or two rolls that dont appear
where i can build my character?
Like a character sheet? You can use a PDF/printed character sheet: https://media.dndbeyond.com/compendium-images/free-rules/ph/character-sheet.pdf
You can use D&DBeyond: https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/builder
You can use most Virtual Table Top's tools to create a character sheet that works with the VTT
Okay thx
What about the app? That’s what I’m having issues with. I can see it but I can’t tap to add XP
the lvl 4 warlock i'm currently playing is showing a spell save DC of 27.... It should be 15 and I'm pretty sure there's nothing that would be changing it. It does have the right spell attack modifier though. This is the sheet link. https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/160047489/kaM7YM
Yeah, I’m not sure either. If you make a copy of that character, does it show the same spell save DC? If so, you could start removing choices from the copy one by one to narrow it down.
I'll check tomorrow
Only idea I had is that there is at least one homebrew magic item on the character I’d try removing which could be doing it.
I once had an account on dndbeyond, but after some time when i decided to log in and dust off a character, i noticed i cant log in by any method. i dont have any message on mail that would lead me to account, Twitch login tries to make a new account. when i choose my nickname it says that its taken but i know its my account.
did something changed about logging in? how can i gain access back?
No, nothing’s changed.

Hi everyone im making characters with my players, im not very used to dnd beyond. its not letting us choose a tool proficieny or skill for their criminal background. any solutions?
Do you have the core rules enabled for that character?
Actually, I can reproduce this with everything enabled. Backgrounds that usually let you select skills or tools aren't letting you do so right now.
There's Charlatan.
Repro:
- Create new character
- Select Charlatan background
- Select 2024 Bard
- Select Deception proficiency at Bard level 1
- Can't select other proficiencies in Background
I've run into this probelm with backgrounds, too. There's a thread in the bugs forum about it as well.
I think the workaround for now is to not select proficiencies in your class that override those in your background.
The backgrounds work fine when you do that:
Sometimes what helps is making a copy of the character and also deselecting the problem area (background or class/subclass) and reselecting it. I think I've also seen people leave it and come back later to find that it's working correctly.
i tried making a character on my own account with the background it gave me thieves tools and sleight of hand automatically so im assuming it was a visual bug on their end
I’ve flagged it with the devs. Thanks!
When making homebrew and I want to use markup to link to spells, conditions, etc. Is there a reference list somewhere of what all those markups are? I know a few but I was trying to figure out the one for Weapon Property, which given existing items that link it, seems like it should exist.

been noticing for the last few weeks that Roll20 and D&D Beyond are not showing the same rolls with the beyond 20 extension. Just wondering what rolls are correct? Do I go by D&D Beyond or Roll20. Cause the dice in D&D Beyond seem to be the ones wrong. I can use a weapon that does additional damage and D&D Beyond won't add it, but roll20 does.
Which one is correct would be a decision your table has to make.
Beyond20 needs updating for the new dice updates on DDB and until they get around to it, the disconnect continues. But it is a #third-party extension so we don't know when that might happen.
-# EDIT, not a third party extension, see comment from WotC below.
While I’m sure that is frustrating, that’s not one of our products. We don’t have any control over what they show
It is more accurate to say it is an unauthorized extension. We support our 3rd party partners.
Ah, my bad. Thanks!
thanks 😄 think ill just make my players use real dice for now. Cause to me it seems that its not showing correctly in the D&D Beyond game log, but works in roll20 with the extension. 😄
Should be fixed! You may need to remove and readd the background first.

I came here to ask about it lol
HTTP Code: 504
Status Text: error
Address: https://www.dndbeyond.com/species
Date: Sat Mar 21 2026 18:02:52 GMT-0600 (Mountain Daylight Time)
Request: GET /warning-acknowledgement/get.json
took forever for my camapign to load
I'm still waiting.
Also getting 503 and 504 errors.
Only using DDB (no extensions) and I'm prepping for a game in 40 minutes. Characters won't activate/deactivate on campaign page in a reasonable time, and trying to open monster stat blocks from VTT getting 503 and 504 errors.
The situation seems to be improving.
Spoke too soon. I got 503 errors when I click on a link to the classes, species, feats, etc. pages.
Still waiting for a character to activate in a campaign ... been giving me the pacman thingy for over 5 minutes.
Creating homebrew monster from template also erroring out.
Hello from GaryCon! The Status page just updated.
Connection seems to be good now.
Yeah its better for me now, campaign join link worked just now
I don't know if I'll be able to explain it right, but I'd like some help with something I'm trying to do with a homebrew Barbarian subclass. Since we can't connect the base 5.5e Rage to any of the subclass features, and so I kind of had to make my own rage thingy to activate things like, extra resistances or advantages on certain rolls or what have you
In my character sheet, both the Rage and my Subclass Rage are BAs (As in, if you go to the Bonus Action tab of the Actions portion of the sheet, you'll see them both there). Would I be able to have the drop down thingy that activates the rage in the Actions section instead of having to go to the Features & Traits tab?
No, that’s not currently possible.
Was the parasitic leech Warlock invocation not included yet on D&DB for Heliana's Pt 2?
Not seeing it on the list when choosing
or do I need to homebrew this and leave a selection blank?
Also, symbiotic Reinforcement has two selections and there is a typo in the "equip advanced shield" where a space is missing
I don't really own the content, but do you see other character options from heliana's 2? i.e., is it possible that the character doesn't have access? (We could chase down that type of problem if you have it, but it's probably best to check that as it might not be specific to that invocation.)
I have the correct subclass selected
and I have access to the shared content in the campaign
Hrm. K. Hopefully someone who has the content can test whether it just isn't there for you. Hope you can get it fixed soon. Good luck!
It’s been reported to the devs already, but that’s all I know.
I do wonder if it’s a technical limitation, since no other invocation has a subclass prerequisite.
Thank you for the confirmation!
Easy to work around
I accidentally purchased the 5E PHB a few days ago, but I meant to buy the 5.5E PHB. I submitted a ticket a few minutes after the purchase, but it hasn't been addressed. Is there another way to contact D&D Beyond other than the ticket submission?
If there is, I have not noticed it mentioned here.
I did find this on the Wizards site though. Not sure if it will just submit another ticket which might delay them answering.
https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747237957268-Accidental-Purchases
Per our Terms and Conditions, all D&D Beyond digital and/or physical content sales are considered final. If you have made a purchase in error, please contact our customer support team for assis...
AI also seems to think you should limit accessing or using the accidentally purchased materials in an attempt to reinforce the accidental nature of the purchase, but AI (so could be flawed) and I could not find any documentation indicating if this matters or not.
Thanks, I did use that link and submit a ticket less than 10 minutes after the purchase. Hopefully they resolve the ticket soon
Im trying to make a consumable item on dndbeyond homebrew that gives +10 temp health and +4 to the 3 physical damage types, but im not managing to make it work. Any ideas?
You would just type that in and then manually adjust those values. There’s no way to configure a button that does it all for you at this time.
Broadly speaking, tickets are answered in the order they’re received, so the wait can vary based on how many tickets are ahead of yours.
They’re also answered during regular business hours in the US, so I wouldn’t expect a reply here during the weekend.
As soon as your turn comes, though, they’ll definitely get back to you.
I’m still having issues with the dice roller on the character sheets. Am I the only one? Because I feel like when I mention it here or on the forums. It gets washed away
It's mostly fixed for most people. (I always advise flushing your cookies from your browser. It usually helps push fixes)
What is your specific issue?
All around dice roll buttons not activating, it was especially egregious when I attempted to roll for hit dice healing during short rest. Plus occasionally a sheet would show every dice rolled in the last minute at once, from every party member, even though rolling to everyone was turned off. I just reset my history and website data and that seemed to get things back to normal. Thank you, and I guess I’ll just try that anytime it moves slow again
Glad to have been helpful!
Are there any way to increase range and change base damage of a given weapon type when you make homebrew?
Im trying to make a Sniper with 2d6 Piercing Damage and Range 100/500 ft.
First i tried replace damage type: but that just seemed to add the small "bonus damage button"
Also tried the Weapon Attack Range multiplier to see if I could boost the range that way. I used a fixed value "3", but the range stayed the exact same.
Base damage cannot be changed with the current homebrew tools, but someone more familiar will have to answer about the range.
Thats a bummer. Would wish for them to add the option to make weapons from scratch
That's been a common request over the years, you can create a custom action on the sheet that let's you define those properties iirc
In 2024 I found a post saying that DnD Beyond was planning to expand the "Replace Weapon Ability" modifier in homebrew section.
Are there still no way to change a ranged weapon from DEX to INT modifier?
It can depend on the reason one can attack with INT. For example, for a hand crossbow on my Battle Smith, there is a tickbox to use INT.
While not a missile weapon, there is a similar tickbox for Bladesingers.
That's basically how a switch to INT is supported, as something that activates when a RAW rule is allowing it.
I don't know if this functionality is open to homebrew though but it might help you know where to look.
The ability to add that check box for something that doesn’t already have it is not exposed to homebrew at this time, no.
Homebrew updates are likely well after the rebuild, sadly. Zac also said monster homebrew updates would be first.
Hey guys, I need some help homebrewing a race. Specifically, the race has natural claws (1d6 Slashing) and a bite (1d8) that is a DC or becoming poisoned. How would I set those up on traits cause I've been doing actions and can't get them to work on the character sheet.
Actions is right. If you’re expecting rolls to show up, you’ll need Display As Attack checked.
Note that homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on the sheet, too.
That part is working the part I'm not sure about is, there's supposed to be a dc12 save or be poisoned for 1d4 rounds, that's the part i can't get working right. I did it as a modifier but i don't think it's right. I can link the homebrew, i uploaded it to the community cause the attacks are working and I've just been like 'okay, bite hits? I need a dc12 con save. No? Okay, poisoned for roll 3 rounds
I would add the poison damage as a separate action.
It's less damage as it applies the poisoned condition for 1d4 rounds (disadvantage on attacks and ability rolls until a dc12 save is made or 1d4 rounds pass)
On that note, there's not a way to apply special class damage to attacks, right? for example, the Berserker's Frenzy Damage? You have to roll that separately?
I have been running a lot of games and seeing a lot of weird bugs on my players sheets when rolling on DDB. Multiple dice rolling when not dis/advantage for example, but also, the Roll to DM being gone yet again. Even them using Roll to self not allowing me as DM to see the results. Last time that function was missing it was a mistake.
Is there a way to add two different ability score bonuses on a weapon?
Like, have a longbow, that also adds STR to the Attack and Damage roll (Grimhollow Compound bows, for instance.)
nvm, now i got it working
i assume the reverse is true to add DEX to melee str weapons
Are any extensions enabled, like beyond20?
Not sure about my players, they may have that when not playing in my games.
Definitely find out. Also, when did these issues most recently occur? Some of those sound like issues that the extensions are dealing with, and a few sound like issues we had but should have been resolved already.
I’ll check in with them. Just this last weekend, but I did do a test with someone today and then using Self* did show up for me. Has roll to Self and DM been consolidated for some reason?
It's always been that way (except for the brief period you were referring to when the functionality got accidentally chagned)
As I recall it wasn’t that long ago that you would have the option to select Everyone/Self/DM for rolls.
And now DM is gone as an option.
We did not take away any rolling options. We may have cleaned up some of the labels, but the functionality is the same.
(Previous roll to self was always visible to the DM!)
So long as the function remains and this last weekend was just a hiccup that’s all that matters. Just seems less clear for players imo. Will get back to you about if the players have plugins working this weekend that caused their issue.
Just a quick note: right-clicking on the Hit/DC roll button on the character sheet still has the "Send To:" choices of Everyone or Self (which means Self and DM) and may contribute to some confusion.
I don't know if anyone else has this issue but I came across while searching feats for my character. I own the book
It's not giving me an option to sync it
Hrm. Does it say you’re already in sync?
yeah
are you able to visit this page? https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/2186464-greater-mark-of-healing
yeah I can visit that page
its just mark of healing that I can't
and sentiel and warding
The regular mark of healing works for me and I own the book. How weird.
oh, oops, i read the wrong one
what's funny the app works fine
You're using the same user account?
It's the same account
it sends me to the book but I legit can't view it as a stand along feat when searching it
that is a weird issue
This might require the support team’s involvement because I can’t think of a combination of possibilities that lets you view the greater mark but not the basic mark.
I just noticed that it's doing the same thing for me
Hmmm...
Oh huh. Maybe it’s broken for a subset of users then?
Might have bad backend license attribution.
It is strange it works on the app for you though.
Yeah time to file a ticket with customer support - this is weird
nevermind that doesn't work on the app for character creation
I think there may be a backend issue that needs to be looked at
would be in order and subcription?
for me the ones not working are Mark of Detection, Mark of Healing, Mark of Sentinel (which is listed twice and one of them works), and Mark of Warding
i've sent a ticket to the dnd beyond support team. By the looks of it, this isn't just a me problem
As a heads up it can take time for them to get around to our tickets. If it does feel like it's taking a long time don't start new ones as it puts you back at the end of the queue and can take longer to resolve.
So, I'm just curious if the consensus is correct about needing to make a separate action for a racial trait that adds a bite attack that adds the poisoned condition for 1d4 rounds if they fail a save?
Yeah most actions can only have one dice roll shown on thr character sheet.
If you want to have to rollavle options you will have to make a separate action.
-# The mod who suggested that is also very knowledgeable about the homebrew system
Im having error on the Favored Enemy on my Ranger??
These descriptions are not of the 2024 rulings right, even though it says PHB-2024, pg 119???
I've also looked at my Character Settings, and I have the 5.5e Core rules and 5.5e Expanded Rules and Homebrew settings checked for Sources, but it's still showing me 5e rules???
Is there a way to give a character access to spells they can learn without automatically granting them, like the dragonmark backgrounds do? Preferably without making a custom background
You’d need a homebrew background, subclass, or species for that.
There were some server gremlins afoot. This has been fixed!
☝️ cc: @granite sequoia
Why is this showing up on the Traits line during species creation?
Hey! Would you mind linking where you found that? That way we can get it fixed ASAP! :D
I'm still making the Species, but heres the link anyways:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/species/2127864-is-there-a-way-to-remove-proficiencies#FrostboundBernariRaceDetails
Here's one for you to send along, seeing 2 Mark of Detections and 2 Mark of Sentinels on the website in the rules section for feats and on the app under listings
I'm going nuts here... when creating a Homebrew monster, where do I set the proficiency bonus? I'm using the Desktop site
Another suggestion for the quick character builder: homebrew options
Not sure if this is a technical limitation or I'm missing something, but when I take the Eldritch Adept feat from TCOE it only offers the 2014 invocations and none of the 2024 ones, is this a DDB issue or is Eldritch Adept not meant to work with 5.5e?
It's correct. Eldritch Adept is a 2014 feat and has not been updated for 2024.
When I make a copy, it shows the correct DC
I'm working on a homebrew monster and wondering what Swarm Type is all about.
These are going to small constructs that move in packs of 3. Would I use Swarm Type?
Swarms are in essence groups of monsters that act together and as a group, a set of stats represent them as if they were a single creature.
If your group are that in sync that they all act together, and it is not possible to damage their effectiveness by targeting the component individuals, and their movement, actions, and their entire being can be represented as the group simplified in to one individual, then a swarm might be the way to go.
You would need to make the call based on how your homebrew monster would be adjudicated.
I was thinking 3 little crab-like things that each do their own attack and movement on the same turn, controlled by another NPC.
Sounds like not a swarm to me then.
btw for dndb is there a way to get rid of multiple options at once insted of going at it one by one
Options for what?
having a little issue, making a new character but my unarmed strikes are not taking my dex or proficency into account, using 2024 rules for this one, kensei monk/samurai fighter
Looks like it’s using STR+PB.
Are you wearing armor or a shield?
Martial Arts only works when you’re not wearing armor or a shield.
making a homebrew race in dndb right now and the have a profice choice in Acrobatics, Perception, Stealth, or Survival but how do i add this
If there’s not a built-in Modifier that covers those choices, you can use Options instead.
Set up each choice (like Acrobatics) as its own Option, and add the appropriate Modifier instead (like Proficiency — Acrobatics).
like this
this website seems to hate me for wanting Mark of Healing
The devs are aware of this issue, yes.
The name you use there is exactly what the player will see when making their selection. You can call those whatever you want.
The important part is that each Option has the correct Modifier inside.
Did you add those Modifiers?
Ive been trying to remake the tortle race but Im running into an issue where the standard ac 10+dex mod is staking with the 17 natural armor, does anyone know how to disable it.
Also if anyone has the offical book the tortle is from, if you hosted a campaign for me to copy it from you, Id appreciate it alot
You cant make homebrew copies of items you dont own even if it is shared with you.
You need 3 modifiers inside your trait.
Set- Unarmored Armor Class (fixed value of 7)
Set - AC Max Dex Modifier (fixed Value of 0)
Ignore - Unarmored Dex AC Bonus
That worked for the natural armor, thanks
Now how to make shell defense into an action?
@dense viper I tried to recreate shell defense by modifying shield of faith into a cantrip that gives the user 4+ ac and advantage on con and str saving throws but its not working
From what I can see its more of a description on the character sheet that is just listed under actions and bonus actions respectfully. There isnt anything that change the AC in those actions
You could set it up with Options to switch the Natural Armor from a 17 to a 21. This would be implemented similar to the Barbarian activating Rage, etc.
Under Options, you add an option, and in that option you give it a +4 AC modifier (or another Unarmored Defense modifier that is larger than the first).
Then the character who uses this can select to turn it on by picking that option or turn it off by deselecting it.
or you can make magic items that give the bonus while equipped
hi im trying to make a spell that ups the damage as your character goes up in level but it aint adding the extra 1d10 per each of the levels what am i doing wrong?
Try pouting the dice roll at the damage it is doing instead of the damage that is being added
Did you also set it to say that is has level scalling? It would be on the main page of the spell
ye i put it there
Also if you can make a copy of the cantrip Fire Bolt to see how the devs did it
it was additional points not additional count...
@near ember what link can I use?
If you are looking to join a game check out #looking-for-dm
I am not looking for new players atm
Oh…ǒk
nvm it still doenst work...
Give it about 15 mins for the changes to make their way to the character sheet
ok
figured out why it didnt work... i put per level 1d10 instead of upping hte first number now i need to wait to see if it fixed it
i was pointed in this direction for help, is there anyone experienced in dndbeyond and making custom subclasses that could help me?
What exactly are you trying to do?
What have you added so far? Where are you stuck?
so i have the subclass already, and the sheets for all the subclass information, i just dont know how to make one on dndbeyond
like the creator seems very confusing to use, im not sure how each part of the subclass translates over to what they are asking me to fill out
The support site for DNDBeyond put together a real handy FAQ page for just this purpose with lots of links you should follow to learn more of the basics: https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/7747241293844-Forums-Thread-Everything-you-need-to-know-about-Homebrew-Tutorials-FAQ
I highly recommend trying to figure it out yourself first using the above link, and if/when you have trouble with specific features you can ask about those here and we can provide more targeted assistance.
I’d generally start by just adding the features at the expected levels, each with a Description (the full rules text) and Snippet (the abbreviated rules text shown on the sheet).
Make sure the Feature Type for all of them is Granted.
i see, i will give this a try thank you! could i send the pictures i have for my subclass and could you tell me if that is all the info i'd need to be able to make my subclass?
Yeah, go for it.
That’s for a Fighter?
indeed
You might need to replace Pact Magic with Spellcasting, like Eldritch Knight has.
Spell slots for DDB subclasses are… finicky. 😅
i can understand that, it's just alot of new info im taking in atm, its my first campaign in like 4 years aswell being new to dnd beyond
Ultimately, DDB doesn’t give you direct control over your spell slots.
It just checks if you have a feature called “Spellcasting” or “Pact Magic”, then adds them based on the class.
And while you do indeed have a feature called “Pact Magic”, I’m betting you’ll get the same spell slots as an Eldritch Knight.
I.E. “Spellcasting” instead of “Pact Magic”.
Couldn’t hurt to try, though.
would it be better to do from scratch or use a template from one of the premade ones and rename/change everything that way
holly haversack from stranger things -- is updating weight based on items in the container -- unlike the heward sack that leaves the weight at 5lbs... and adds container weight 500/500...
I would suggest using Eldritch Knight, for what you posted above, as a template instead of making from scratch. At least until you get the hang of the homebrew editor
sweet, ill give that a try thanks for all the help!
i looked up eldritch knight and it didnt show as an option
It would only come up to be an option to use as a template if you own the book it comes from on DnD Beyond.
You could try Blood Hunter’s Order of the Profane Soul subclass as a working comparison.
You’d still need to create your Fighter one from scratch, but at least that’ll give you something to reference.
i just picked champion and i've been renaming/readjusting the subclass manually, so far its working though from pact magic and eldritch power im trying to figure out the best way to make those work
pact magic i just manually picked out all the warlock spells it would let me have as options for the pick list
about to start working on eldritch power now
You’d probably want to assign it the Warlock spell list as a whole instead, from the main screen of your subclass.
Again, that’s where making a copy of Profane Soul would help.
like adding all the spells to the additional specific spells list?
Yeah, just add the list itself instead.
It’s less work, and will automatically include any new warlock spells added in the future.
Quick question Spam:Is there any plan to update older 3rd-party Clerics(Armor vs Cleric Order incompatibility, various), Paladins(Outdated Aura size, autoprep Oath spells, various), & Warlocks(Autoprepare Patron Spells) when Selected for 5.5 characters?
Or is that not on the table for entities other than 1985 Games?
So I can just post a link to the warlock spells in that slot
That’ll be way easier than how I did do it lol
It’s a different slot, on the main subclass page under Basic Information.
But yeah.
AFAIK, that’s up to those 3rd-parties.
At least in cases where it’s following a rule written in the subclass itself.
If there’s something like a monk that says “equal to your Martial Arts die” and that still follows the 2014 sizes, that would be a bug.
If there’s something like a warlock sub that says “these spells are added to the warlock spell list”, then that’s what it should do, even if other warlock subs say differently.
It’s not allowing me to download some of the sourcebooks that are shared to me by my DM, any ideas? I’ve already tried deleting and redownloading the app but it didn’t work.
What happens when you try, exactly?
It says “Download Failed.” This is also on the mobile app btw
And when I hit retry download it just does the same thing
What app version are you using?
Are you able to view that same book on the website?
Ok, this isn't directly DDB related, it's DDB adjacent:
Curious how you guys get reliable translation of DDB character sheets before printing?
I need to reliably translate some sheets in French without ruining the layout or content...
is there a way to make two halves of class feature options that start from their respective first options (and that if 1 half is selected the other half is effectively cut off) into DDB?
also prerequisite class feature options don't seem to work jack for me at all nothing shows up
Could you share the actual rules text for whatever you’re trying to make?
it kinda looks something like this
essentially I'd have the 1st option to be either (side A) or side (B)
each side has 5 options total that eventually are available at later levels. and if my first option has chosen either one side, the other side's options would not be available
kinda reminds me of selecting dragonmarks where once you selected a dragonmark feat you're only able to get the greater version of it
but for seemingly absolutely no reason whatsoever this is somehow super hard to inplement into DDB and that one homebrew FAQ on the website's instructions either don't have what I want or simply just don't work jack
reality is often disappointingly against me it seems
You can make the featue have a reqeument of either A or B. You have to have the A and B options made before you make the options.
You shouldn’t need prerequisites for the feature above.
I’d set up a single feature with two Options: Cleric and Druid.
Inside each Option, you’ll need to add four Spell entries.
Make sure each one is set to use the appropriate spell list.
that'd just give me 4 options right off the bat at the character builder and char sheet instead
because screw me i guess
Not if you set “Available at Character Level” for the higher spells.
Here is an example that worked for me.
In the first picture I have a feature that gives the players a choice between a warrior or spell caster.
In the 2nd picture I have a choice of spells based on weather they chose the spellcaster or warrior in the first picture.
Each one is set with a prerequisite species trait option.
i'm not looking for species options
i need one for subclasses
I understand that but it should work the same
idk about that this shi seems pretty damn blank to me
for god knows why
That’ll only pull options from another subclass feature.
If you want to go that route, you’ll need two separate features.
whatever that means it probably doesn't sound like what i'm looking for
not that i even know what it's supposed to mean to begin with
this is the bs i get when i try doing the spelllist method btw
This is what Spam was talking about.
also it was supposed to only give 2 options at level 3
the character is on level 3
That set up lets them pick two spells at level 3. That is why under the spells section you see 2 things of the same thing (the 2nd picture)
then why the hell did i get 5
you probably typed something like this 3,3,3,3,3 in the "class levels where options known" box
That first picture is wrong which is why it isnt working like you expect it to
When letting them chose spells you just select the 1st and 2nd level spells. Shown here by the 1 and 2 in the spell levels box
i'm asking about the last three options
That set up only lets them pick a spell that is 1st or 2nd level with this feature
i can deal with the first two it's just that if i have to make options for levels 5 7 and 9 for the 3rd-5th level spells then idfk how to
am i getting lost in translation in the slightest here
You would make them the same way just change the required level and what level spells they can access at those levels.
Unless you could use level scaling. I dont really know how that feature works though.
Hey Spam would the level scaling feature work here or would it be better to have them make a new option at the higher level?
that's literally what i did
it's literally this equals this
Is that first picture under the spells section of the subclass featue?
yes
also why the hell am i given the option to choose true resurrection when i only restricted the spell choices to levels 1 and 2
Ah. My screenshots are under the spells section of the options tab.
We are in two different spots
what the hell is wrong with this website
oh no i read that wrong it is in the options
Ok so since you have that in the options then that is why you are seeing the choice to see those higher level spells.
You will want to make a separte option that becomes available at the higher level
that wouldn't work the way as i want it to be because it'll just give them the option to choose a 3+ cleric or druid spell
especially for whatever reason i apparently cannot set prerequisite CF options on the same class feature the options were from
Then you will have to make the featue like I suggested by showing the speices thing.
Which is have feature 1 be Cleric or druid
and feature 2 be the spells which will give them the right choice
that's just gonna flood the subclass with so many damn class features no
Not really
Give me a sec and ill set one up so i can show you a screenshot
Ok I only set up the Cleric side but the Druid spells are set up the same way.
First you make a feature where they chose Cleric or Druid (In my example its called "This or that")
Then you make a 2nd feature that has options know at the required levels.
When making the options make sure you pick you prerequisite class feature option and the required level
After doing all that you would need to allow some time for the homebrew changes to make their way to the charatcer builder. Which can be around 15mins or so
guess i'll give this a try then
If you need more help give me a ping and ill try my best to help
Hi - I keep trying to search for homebrew items and I keep getting an error message
Do you get the same thing in a different browser or on a different device? What does the error message say?
Why does my Dragon Mark Feat say Broken?
Mark of Healing (Broken)
Known issue with some of the Dragon Marks - devs are looking into it.
What's the difference beteween "5e core" and "Legacy/Noncore" in practicality nowadays?
Like is there something from 5e 2014 that these settings would miss out on?
I think Legacy/noncore is content from the books that are no longer available or gat re-release as part of a different book
-# Examples are: Lost laboratory of kwalish, infurnal machine rebuild, lost mines of phandelver, baldur's gate: discent into avurnus, volo's guide to monster hunting, one grung above, locathah rising, mordenkain's fiendish folio volume 1, divine connection, misplaced: monster volume 1, the tortle package, and sleeping dragons wake
thanks!
Right idea, but a few wrong examples.
Legacy refers to books that have effectively been replaced in the rules. MTOF and VGTM, for example (since those were replaced by MOTM).
Noncore broadly refers to charity releases, which were never an official part of the rules to begin with. Things like Lost Lab, One Grung Above, etc.
So together, Legacy/Noncore broadly represents first-party releases that aren’t considered an official part of the game.
BGDIA and the DOIP expansions are all under 5e Expanded Rules, not Legacy/Noncore.
Okay, so LMOP would still for example qualify for "5e" instead of Legacy even though it's part of Phandelver & Below now?
No, LMOP is Legacy.
Why do the monsters from those books show up whele sorting by legacy/noncore?
O wait I forgot that the app updates the source book name
Each listing has a primary source (the one it shows), but can belong to multiple sources.
Oke (I forgot that and mistoke those 2 for legacy)
How do i add a feature to a custom background?
If you mean the built-in Custom Background option in the character builder, you can’t.
You’d need to make a homebrew background.
If you meant a homebrew background already, you’d just write it in the Feature Name and Feature Description fields.
hey, i’m having an issue. i can’t see any material from any of my books, even the phb.
Try going to account setting and refreshing entitlements
do i need to do it on pc? this is all i see on mobile
Either on pc or the web page. Also make sure you are signed into the same account on both
The app kinda sucks at doing most things, so doing entitlements on website is best bet

If you can’t access a book or find an available character option, here’s some important things to check:
- Are your Account Entitlements in sync? If not, you’ll see a button to let you manually trigger a sync.
- Did you purchase the book yourself, or is it shared with you through one of your campaigns?
- If you purchased it, is it listed under Current Product Licenses?
- If it’s shared with you, is this character assigned to the campaign that’s sharing it?
- Do you have the right checkboxes enabled in your character settings? The checkboxes at the top under “Sources” and “Partnered Content” control which options are available for your character. If in doubt, check them all.
- Are you using the right class? There are two versions of each core class: the 2024 one under "Core Rules" and the 2014 one under "2014 Core Rules". Options available for one might not be available for the other. For example, some options for
Cleric (the 2024 class) might not be available for
Cleric (the 2014 class) and vice versa.
once i go to account settings, what do i click from there?
If you click the blue words above that say "Account Entitlements" it will take you right there
i don’t see that option
What do you see after you click that?
Click the Licenses tab.
it says all my entitlements are in sync
Check to make sure you are sign into the same account on the app as you are on that web page
Though it looks like you are.
Did you check everything from that post by Dyno?
Aslo for any mods that see this. That Tag by Dyno needs to be update to say 5.5e for the 2024 rules and 5e for the 2014 rules
yea, everything should be working but i only see one subclass for every class. like i said, i can’t even see the free books
Do you own the books you are looking for or are they shared with you?
some of them are shared, but the free ones i still can’t access
i thought it might be an issue bc they were shared but like i said i can’t even see the PHB content
You may have to put in a ticket with customer support.
?tag ddb support
Have you tried to clear the apps cached data? And can you see all the subclasses when you are on the webpage?
yea, i’ve even deleted and redownloaded. the only time i can see subclasses is when i read the books but not when i go to make a character
When you try to make a character on the webpage and not the app do you see them?
Also here is the link to the support page since Dyno didnt post it. (https://dndbeyond-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/requests/new?ticket_form_id=6098987232148)
i still don’t see them but i just submitted a request
Ok just remember not to send in more then one since it can send you to the back of the line
Is the 2024 PHB listed here under Current Product Licenses?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
no, there’s nothing there
which is weird bc i have stuff in my library
I’m assuming the 2024 PHB doesn’t show as Owned there in the Library either, right?
If so, that’s why you can’t use any other PHB subclasses.
The free Basic Rules include one subclass each. For Ranger, that’s Hunter.
The Basic Rules only have one subclass per class which you were saying you could see.
To make a character using the shared books you will have to make that character from within the campaign that it is shared in.
well it says i have the player handbook, i wasn’t seeing a 2024 version specifically
i’m assuming i have both? since the bottom one is claiming 2014
Its says both are shared with you
Shared character options can only be used inside the campaign that’s sharing them.
ah, so i’d have to buy them both myself. got it
sorry about that, i thought they were free
The Basic Rules are free, which contains large portions of the PHB (and DMG and MM), but not all of it.
If they are shared with you, you could just create another character in the campaign where they are shared. Side benefit at least for now is you could confirm that you have access once you do that. You can always decide how to proceed after.
how do i share a book i own with my players? i cant seem to do it with Obojima
Someone within the campaign needs a master tier subscription and then sharing can be enabled within the campaign
i do, Obojima doesnt seem to be on the enable list within content share
If you check this page, are your Account Entitlements in sync? Is that book listed under Current Product Licenses?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
its in sync, its not on the list, but i do own the book
If it’s not on that list, then that’s why it’s not being shared.
Is it listed in your Order History?

Was it maybe made as a gift purchase?

This (being the option to select MonkeyDM) probably wasn't supposed to be visible yet, is Steinhardts guide to the Eldritch hunt coming to D&D Beyond?
I'm HYPED if Steinhardt's is coming, because Jaeger would be awesome
Hello 🙂 Am I at the right place to get forum support?
what is the problem?
I cant create a thread on the LFP/LFG board
D&DBeyond forums or here on this Discord server's Looking For Game channels?
If here on this Discord server you'll need to read #find-a-game carefully
We use a bot to create the LFG posts and you need to use the bot commands to trigger the process.
Thank you - it's just weird, on the d&d beyond forums. I can create a thread everywhere, except for the looking for players or dm category.
Ah okay so the D&DBeyond forums
My character sheet loaded for me.
Everything's green.
The status page has to be manually updated based on what I've seen in the past, so at least no known issues.
Sorry all. It was a character issue. The one character cannot load. Thank you for the responses!
how do i appeal my lfg ban
If you have received a moderator action, such as a rules reminder, warning, mute, or ban, and believe it to have been made in error, fill out this appeal form and a moderator who did not issue the initial action will review the appeal.
If your appeals moderator has more questions for you, they will reach out in a PRIVATE thread in the #appeals ...
it says i was approved.
however i do not have access to the said channels
Please ask for a private thread in #moderator-support
Regarding paid game advertising on D&D beyond, I understand that we can only reply with paid games to players who specify an openness to paid games on the LFG forums, but in the case where players do not specify whether they are or aren't, would it still be against forum rules to inquire about whether or not they would be open to paid games? Like sending a quick message along the lines of "Hey are you open to a paid game?" before sending out the paid campaign link. Just looking for clarification.
Hey guys im playing a paladin and im lvl 5 (2024) so I get an extra attack. I get a bonus action immediately after every melee attack or unarmed strike, so does that mean that if I do 2 melee attacks it would be, melee attack, bonus action, melee attack, bonus action?
No, you get one bonus action per turn
Ninja is correct. For future reference, these questions belong in #dnd-newcomers or #dnd-rules and not here. This channel is for support for the DNDBeyond platform.
Ok thx
Oh ok
It would be considered spamming. Unless they specifically note they are open to paid games, offering them a paid game would be considered undesired solicitation.
im hoping this is the correct place for this, im trying to homebrew the fate domain from UA so my players can use it, and i want to publish it when im done for 2024e and ive made sure all the class levels are hit, tested at 1/2/6/8/17 and tested 3/3/6/8/17 and tested at 3/3/6/17 and neither is allowing to publish i made sure the toggle of can this sub class cast spells wasnt on yes, and matched to the life domain copy to make sure i had features set up correctly i still get the error
" This Subclass cannot be shared with the community for the following reasons:
This homebrew Subclass does not have the necessary class features with the correct required levels."
2024 cleric has subclass feature technically 2 at level 3 feature + domain spells, a 6 feature and a 17 feature. so i suited it to that and it still throws error.
i'm pretty sure 5.5e Cleric's subclass features are 3/3/3/6/17
you're close enough lol it's just one L3 feature short
adjust it to that
still same error
i forgot about channel divinity when i made this post yes i did have another 3
Do not publish it, your campaign can use it without publishing it and publishing it would be against ToS since it's UA and not your own creation.
so D&D beyond removes The older UA... says the only way we can make it is homebrew... And also doesn't allow us to share that homebrew...
UA materials aren't available in the character builder at all, no matter how old the material is. You're free to recreate those materials in your homebrew for your own use, but you cannot publish that homebrew. You can share it with your table without publishing it. If your players make their characters in a campaign on DDB, they can enable homebrew and use what you've created.
Having trouble pulling up oath of vengence in my players sheet... I own the handbook is there a way to fix this?
Are your account entitlements in sync?
not sure what that means... I have content sharing enabled for all of my players

Which PHB do you own? The 2014 or 2024 one?
Which Paladin are you using?
or
?
2014
are you sure youre using
You’ll need to use
, then.
Yeah I'm using the wrong one of those
If you’re using
, you’d need the 2024 PHB and its version of that subclass.
How long does it take for the app to update that I've bought my master tier subscription? I need to access my characters but it refuses to allow me to even see their sheets cuz it thinks my subscription lapsed
It won't even let me download the update to a book that is shared with me.....
Double check this page and make sure it shows the subscription is active and that the entitlements are in sync https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/licenses
Well j clicked the button that said to sync them up.... The app still isn't working with me. Also I've lost access to all the content shared with me
