At this time, only the DM of the campaign can enable/disable what compendium content (e.g. text from the book) can be seen/accessed. All character builder options are shared regardless.

Hi is there a way to put a Cursed Item on a players Character sheet and make it so they cant see the Curse? the rules say the Identify wont reveal any curses but giving them the item tells them anyway

Meta-gaming is a thing whatever technology you put in the way. It really is best to homebrew items with different names. Provide enough detail about what a character would identify. then gradually update the description once elements of the curse and any cures are revealed.
The DDB character sheet can be a pain when you want the player to refresh and see the updates. Often you have to remove the item and add it back, so it helps if the DM does that, then the player only needs to refresh (removing that pain would be my feedback).
Homebrew can be fun. I like to create pictures for things that have generic tokens, eg Stone of Ill Luck from TftYP that's supposed to appear like a Luckstone.
Having said all that, I sympathise with anyone having limited time for prepping.

Asking because I am planning to DM Humblewood and I thought I need to share the whole book in order for my players to get access to the character options.

If there was a way for them to get the options but not the ability to read the book to potentially spoiler them that would be great!

Once Content Sharing is activated, you’ll see a “Manage Content” button at the top of your campaign page.

In there it lists all the books being shared through the campaign, and an option to toggle them on or off.

The toggle controls only the ability to read the book. It doesn’t affect the character sheets.

I haven't tried that yet. I've tried several recommendations and have made a test character, but in every single attempt it hasn't made the spell book for the character sheet, and it isn't giving me any spell slots to use

Yeah, take a look at Arcane Trickster, then.

There’s some fields in the subclass’ Basic Information you’ll need to fill out.

And you’ll need a feature called Spellcasting in order to get spell slots.

Sorry just saw this! It’s the same monsters on the all maps. I’ve tested it on three different browsers and two different devices, issue still occurs. There’s so many monsters that don’t work I can’t really list them all, but a few examples: Animal Lord (and its variants) don’t work, Banshee doesn’t work, Cambion doesn’t work. Lich, Ancient Red Dragon, and Camel all work. Like I said, it all seems pretty random. I will note: I don’t think I’ve found something that does work from a source other than the 2024 Monster Manual, but I obviously haven’t combed through the 3000+ monsters that are in that group.

That sounds like you chose the 2014 version instead. You'll need to go back and re-select that spell. Make sure you choose the one under "Core Rules", not the one under "2014 Core Rules".

Well, the book’s written for the 2024 rules, anyway.

The subclasses can be used on DDB only if you select the 2024 class.

The species, spells, feats, etc. can be used, regardless of which class version you choose.

Previously you'd only be able to use the things you owned yourself, regardless of campaign, and you needed a subscription to do so.

The part about the filter might actually be a bug, though. I'd also expect that to remove any monsters you can't access in full.

Account Entitlements

Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.

The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.

I have made a digital purchase, but don't have the contents or the history (the entitlements say it is in sync, since there is no purchase to show). The first time I contacted the DDB team, they said it would be on the Google Play Store's end to solve this; turns out, they have the transaction without an issue, it should be solved by the DDB team. So I re-submitted the ticket and the issue was "solved" by itself? I mean the issue wasn't solved it just appears as solved in my requests.

Only WOTC have the metrics, but they are investing in it which suggests it is being used. It’s clear to me they’re targeting an easier use-case than the very crunchy usage models of the other popular VTTs, which is likely working out decently.

If it’s their preferred approach, I definitely think we will need modernizations/improvements to homebrew and some updates like changing token icons without using homebrew, etc. I’m sure they’ll get to it all if folks keep submitting feedback on what they want.

On DnDBeyond it has an option to select what Primal Path you have active on the character sheet for the Wildheart Barbarian, but when you go to the drop down on the character sheet it doesn't give you any options. I just received a homebrew magic item that starts at 0 charges, goes back to 0 charges at dawn, but has no upward limit on how many charges it can amass during the day. Does DNDBeyond support that sort of charge tracking? From what I've seen all magic items have a fixed maximum charges and you keep track of what's left by filling in the squares of the charges you've used.

I'd give it a theoretical 100 charge upper limit that you'd never actually reach in-play and just add charges as needed.

There's no reason to actually implement "infinite" charges when you're limited by the adventuring day itself.

Once you get over a certain number of charges, it uses a number and +/- boxes to track the charge count, not X'd boxes.

So they’d need Sorcerer instead of Sorcerer.

Well this is fun. I have a reproducible session deadlock where I'm getting 403s for all dndbeyond pages (including https://www.dndbeyond.com) but only for that logged in session. I've been able to trigger it twice by browsing homebrew and then I have to clear site cookies to reset the session before I can do anything.

Looks like that can only be selected while Rage is activated on your character sheet.

There was a bug report submitted to change that, though.

(The current setup causes the checkboxes for those features to get unchecked when Rage ends, so they should just always be visible instead.)

What is very strange is:

• this was previously working, but the feat and ability score lines disappeared before my eyes when I clicked on a drop-down in the character builder.
• other backgrounds work fine
• Cultist works fine on OTHER characters.

If it matters this is not my character. I am the DM and was making an edit to a player character.

2024 rules, Warlock with Great Old One subclass. Human.

Question with sharing books in a campaign. So for instance one of our players bought the grim hollow players guide. Now in our character sheets we can see all the new origins and backgrounds and everything. BUT what we can't see any of the subclasses.

The GH players Guide is for characters based off of the 2024 rules so if you cant see the subclasses from that book you may have characters based on the 2014 rules

I've heard that you can only view the "background" tab for your own personal character sheets- not anyone else's. Is this true? If not, why is the "background" tab only visible on my character sheet?

Yes because some games prefer to have characters with secrets in their backgrounds that only the DM and the player know.

So the devs made it so that's what happens.
If you wish to share your background details with other players, feel free to communicate it directly to them but the DnDBeyond character sheets won't show it to them.

so my dad whos the DM has the master teir subscription ok. When we launch the VTT it looks plain. I know theres was a big update earlier this year, such as the ability to put health circles around player tokens and enemies as well. Well in his.. he cant do anything with tokens.

All he can do is hide the token, lock it or rename it thats it. Based on the update video I watched seems like his VTT is missing features

The physical copies are sent in November during the normal release window. The early access release at bookstores is intended to support FLGS, so they can sell them early and get business of their own.

Good Morning,

Up until very recently I have had Xfinity for my ISP. Modem and Router were my own that I purchase and maintained myself. Everything has ran just fine for us using DnDBeyond Maps VTT; our DM using his Samsung tablet on Wifi to launch and run the DM side of things while I have a TV with the VTT on top of a table. Historically, I had been using my laptop on Wifi, but 3 months back I had also picked up Quantum Fiber and shortly after switched to an old Tower PC on a LAN cable for running the VTT, to mitigate bringing down my laptop every time. For those 3 months everyone still had been running on the Xfinity Wifi and the VTT was on LAN also through my ASUS router on Xfinity. I have since discontinued my Xfinity service 2 weeks ago, and this past Sunday when we were running solely on the Quantum Fiber our DM booted up as normal, connect to the Fiber Wifi and launched the game, I spun out the TV VTT on the Tower and it would sees the internet just fine and DNDBeyond, but gave me an error when attempting to connect to the current session.

Error Message:

"It seems a wild Disconnection has thrown us off our path! Roll for a refresh to restore our Connection Saving Throw and rejoin the quest.
If the disconnection spell continues to haunt you, please seek the wisdom of the supporting mages support." the link goes to the VTT FAQ

Everyone else can spin up the Maps VTT session on their phone across the Wifi just fine, but the PC on LAN is the only one that has issues with connecting to Maps VTT session. Everything else is fine and has been fine until the recent switch over to everything being on the Fiber network now. I grabbed my laptop for that session and that, via Wifi, can see and connect to the Maps VTT session just fine. To reiterate, the LAN PC(being Windows 7 and using Chrome browser) accesses the internet just fine and only has issue connecting to VTT session when we switched it to the Fiber ONT/Pod.

I have spoken with Quantum Fiber 1st and 2nd level support and they were not very helpful with figuring out a resolution. They did do a firmware update for the Fiber equipment, but that did not help. I have ran a few test and moving the LAN from the Fiber pod to the actual ONT port, putting LAN connections to the DMZ... all no dice.

I am looking for ideas on what might be causing this non-connection on the PC via a LAN connection that DOES see the internet just fine, but has issues connecting to a Maps VTT Session. Is there certain port(s) that need to be opened for the VTT in the Fiber ONT?

The standard Quantum App for accessing 'control' for your network for the Wifi 7 360 , is a joke. I have gained access to the ONT login information and can gain access to some more opens that way, but is still very limiting compared to the full access I had with my personal owned equipment I used for Xfinity(Cable Modem and Asus Router). I also, tried hooking up the Asus Router as an Access Point only and tried hooking both the LAN to that and connecting my laptop to that router's wifi to see if that would make a difference and it did not. Also tried laptop on Fiber Wifi and LAN on ASUS router, nope. I switched so LAN was on Fiber and Laptop on Asus router access point wifi, also nope.

My going theory is that the Fiber's ONT might need a port opened for the LAN side to properly use the Maps VTT... but I do not know what that is. I am open to ideas and suggestions. Going back to Xfinity is not a solution, so if we could skip those ideas and/or comments that would be great.

My first suggestion here would be to contact support as the error message suggests, but practically it doesn’t make sense that the internet works but something about the routing for Maps doesn’t. Have you tried disconnecting the system that you’re using from the LAN and using WiFi for it? The LAN might be blocking a port Maps requires is my only guess. If that helps, it’s probably something only Support would know the exact details for, though.

I do not have a Wifi adapter for that PC Tower system, it only has a LAN port. Though as I said my laptop remains fine. But i had an issue where over time forgetting to adjust the Hz refresh rate down, screwed up my laptops 144Hz display ability and I had to download a program to custom create a 120Hz to have better than the 60 Hz rate. That is long story round why I don't want to keep using my laptop for the VTT and want a permanent PC in-place for it.

When it comes to account access, the only folks who can really help are the support team. I'd work with them on anything they ask for. Maybe offer to show them purchase receipts for the redemptions on your account if you can't access that email account and need it changed? The difficulty is of course ensuring that you are, in-fact, the account owner. So much fraud happens with this sort of thing that it can be tough.

The bank or credit card processor account histories should have some confirmation of payment that the DDB support folks can utilize to verify who you are. Ultimately, though, just follow their instructions.

I haven’t had any issue with this particular area, but I also don’t modify my subscription often (mostly just to change a payment method). If the issue is that you can’t cancel a subscription, consider trying from a different browser on a different machine. Great, so I am currently trying to implement the dragons as playable characters from the Battlezoo Ancestries Dragons and I'm running into a bit of an issue with (honestly a few things) the evolutions right now.
They are normally granted at specific Levels inside the dragons class however for a homebrew campaign I want to code them into the Dragon Species. This is working somewhat.
The issue is, that some evolutions require other evolutions to be picked first and they sometimes replace the old ones. I'm trying to figure out the smartest way to code this.
Right now I am adding all the evolutions into one big species trait option and allow repicking at specified levels, however this means players could pick evolutions they don't have the prerequisite for and there is no overwriting earlier evolutions.
I could make this so every pick is another Species trait, however then I'd have to code the low level evolutions into every single trait right? and the Prerequisite check would only work for a specific version of the same evolution in a specific species trait, right?

Yeah, prerequisites will only work if it’s separate features, but if they’re able to choose any qualifying option at any of those levels, that’s not really viable.

Honestly, for something this complicated, I’d just build what I need when I need it.

Whether that’s figuring out what options will be picked in advance, or just adding the chosen option when it becomes relevant.

Okay so to me that suggests something on Chrome or Brave (web extension perhaps?) might be wonky. You can try disabling all extensions and seeing if that also works. I have noticed that if Chrome has an update, it can actually cause things to get a bit wonky and doesn't clear up until I've finished installing the update and restarting Chrome.

You could create a DnDBeyond campaign, invite your character to that campaign (basically click the campaign invite link, then select one of the characetrs you want in that campaign). Then in the campaign unassign the character. Your friend can then join the campaign and select that unassigned character. Or they could create a brand new character in that campaign.

Hi, I need help with an item my character just got, the item is called "Crown of the Barrow King, +1" When I equip it, it changes all the cast modifiers of my spells to +17, which would be impossible for a level 6 wizard to have. Can someone help me fix this? I've already deleted the item, filed a complaint on the official page, and nothing. It's been stuck on this for almost a month.

Yeah, this magic item is misconfigured in the back end. A moderator can report that to the devs when they are available to get it looked at.

In the meantime, I recommend just making a homebrew copy and fixing it yourself.

Note that I don’t believe it can be set up to only add to Necromancy spells… might either show as all or nothing. Either way, the amount it’s being boosted by is too high.

He does have jack of all trades, which give shim a +1 bonus to skills in which he lacks proficiency, but he has +4 to all skills on top of that. Any ideas?

Is there anyone on here who is a support specialist at DDB? I've raised multiple tickets about an issue I'm having with a corrupted account over a period of a couple of months now but none of them get past the point of confirming that I'm the account holder. The service is so bad that I'd cancel my subscription - except I can't because one of the symptoms of the corruption is that the "account" page just shows as a 404 error, rendering me unable to cancel my payment. I'd happily continue to pay if it was resolved but currently I'm sitting here being forced to pay monthly for a service that I cannot use.

When I say my account is corrupted what I mean is this. I requested an account name change a couple of years ago. Since then it's not worked properly. I get randomly logged out or told I need to buy content which I already own. I can't see any of my characters either. This is the same across all browsers. On the phone app it is completely inaccessible. It won't even let me in to that.

I can access the link that you provided, however if I click "Manage my subscriptions" it goes into a death spiral where the page just shows as blank and constantly refreshed. In the top right corner I can see the username constantly flickering back and forth between my new username and my previous one (which leads me to believe the entire issue is related to a poorly implemented name change.

I've been paying for this for 2 years with an inability to use the service or cancel the payment. Multiple support tickets have led nowhere.

Whenever I try an alternative route, like posting in the forum, my post is automatically deleted every time.

Do you need to publish it? Publishing homebrew should only be done after thorough playtesting and once you're okay with it living in that way forever.
You only need to publish if you want to share it with everyone on DnDBeyond.

That’s definitely wrong. The highest possible proficiency bonus is +6, and doubling that would be +12. (The ability modifier doesn’t also get doubled.)

There's a selection for the ability score increase and a selection for the damage bonus on a Nat 20.

It is supposedly to be the same. But you are given the option for it to be different.

Since it’s a species trait I think it’s expected that none of the generic, level 4+ feats are showing.. your character isn’t level 4+. The other requirement here is that you have the feats enabled and paid for (ie you own the core rules and have core rules turned on for the character).

You should be able to disable feat prerequisites for the character and see every feat you have paid for, though.

As a workaround, you should be able to add every single feat you want selectable as an option manually rather than use ‘choose a feat’.

Even if I didn't own any books on D&D Beyond, I still have at least 4 homebrew feats as well as Grappler. On top of that, I had all of the things that should have made it work (ie. feat requirements off, all the sources on that would allow feats, character at lvl 4, etc.) The only thing I haven't tried it adding every single feat individually because I feel like that'd take way too much time for it to be worth it

Account Entitlements

Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.

The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.

Shared character options can only be used for characters inside the campaign that's sharing them, so they won't be able to access your books in another campaign.

If you open their character sheet and click their name, you should see one of those icons there in the sidebar.

For example, you can see here that this character is a Monk.

Essentially, if you're trying to use '14 rules, you want to pick from the second set of main classes, tagged [Legacy]. If you are using '24 rules, you want the set at the top.

And yeah, it's very important they actually make the character within the campaign, as that's the only way they can actually access your content in the builder.

One more detail, make sure content sharing is actually toggled on for the campaign in question. You'd be surprised how often that gets overlooked (since it's not unlimited, you need to actually select which campaigns you're sharing with).

The issue you're experiencing is a cache issue that can only be solved by a complete uninstall/reinstall of the app. Nothing is guaranteed in software, but it is what has fixed it for other folks who have experienced an identical problem in the past (myself included).

This was an identical issue on all the books that plagued me for two years before it was finally fixed. Let me be completely clear about it but what you’re suggesting isn’t a permanent fix and based on what I and others who discussed the problem in the forums went through also likely not the correct solution. I did this about 3 times and it wasn’t permanent until the support team fixed something on their end. I have massive doubts it’s a cache issue given all of that and when people suggested that previously it wasn’t resolved then either.

It’s not something they gave me steps to fix it’s literally something they fixed in the code end of the app after multiple reports and forum posts

It took two years for it to finally be resolved for me personally and I made multiple reports, discussed in many forums, and asked a few times here about it. Unfortunately it’s a very persistent plague of an issue.

There's a way to clear the app cache without doing a full uninstall and reinstall, at least there is on android. If you're on iOS it's worth looking up since it could clear the problem.

Also, the last time I saw this happen to someone it ended up that their app wasn't correctly updating to the current version

I’m on iOS so there’s no real way to clear individual app caches that I know of. There’s a way to clear the phone’s cache but idk that it would really help here. Also since it’s iOS there’s no possible way really to install the “wrong” update. Either you update it or you don’t in that regard.

It wasn't that the user was getting a wrong update, their app wasn't getting the current update at all despite attempting fresh reinstalls. They ended up having to open a support ticket. In which case they'll likely want the app info found under Support Information.

I'm not sure what happened I just updated dnd beyond and now almost all of my shared content isn't available and is saying I need to purchase it- the content still there is Dnd Beyond Basic Rules, Basic Rules (2014), elemental evil players companion, lost mine of Phandelver, curse of strahd: character options, Frozen Sick, Monsterous Compendium volume one, Obojima: tales from the tall grass (shared content for an active campaign I'm starting soon), and Sage Advicr and Errata

So far I've tried logging out and back in, deleting the app and reinstalling, going to the app from the website, no clue what it is-

Double check that sharing is enabled in the campaigns where you're expecting to see the content come from, and make sure that your license are in sync. Also please note that character options tied will only appear if the character is assigned to the campaign sharing the content.

Rejoin your father’s campaign where he is sharing this content with you. Make sure he is renewing his subscription.

He has a LOT of books both physically and digitally and has the digital books shared with me and my sister's dnd beyond accounts

It's not shared through a campaign as far as I know-

That’s the only way it can be shared.

I had the books before dad made me any characters or I joined the first campaign I did, which was a family game night oneshot with dad, my sister, my uncle, and me-

The only way that books can be shared from one person to another in DNDBeyond is for one person to join a campaign in which content sharing is enabled where someone else owns the digital copies of the books. Full stop.

If he is sharing the books with you, you must have been in a campaign with him. Perhaps he set this up for you. Maybe you should ask him for help?

Okay, well, he will have to set up a campaign with content sharing enabled on it and then you will have to join it.

It’s likely that this already exists and you accidentally left it, so you need to rejoin. If you don’t know the campaign URL, you need to wait for him to get off work.

Yeah the original campaign is gone even though I didn't leave it.

It is possible that he deleted it. You really need to talk to him to get him to create another one.

I don't leave campaigns usually by habit because I can't remember which are active and inactive at some points with how scheduling with my friends is a nightmare- I'll talk with dad when he's off

Yeah, I can’t be sure how you ended up not in the campaign: the only options if it’s not showing up are that you accidentally left it, it was deleted, or you were removed from it.

There’s always the chance that there’s a bug in the app, but you can verify by logging into DNDBeyond using a web browser (ie. chrome) and checking there.

It sounds like the campaign was deleted. Possibly your father was reorganizing active campaigns or something and deleted this one by accident would be my assumption.

It's also worth double checking that you signed back into the correct existing account and did not accidentally create a new account

Still the same account, I have it synced to my google to be sure I don't
