which one?
this one
if you’re referring to this, it’s supposed to describe the background for you to see if it fits with your character. custom background is more or less for you to make your own if none of the backgrounds fit. i’ll send an example
like this
it’s just a description to help you out of game choose a background that fits with your character
Ok, so its not shown on the sheet anywhere?
That’s viewed on the character sheet by clicking the Background on the Description tab.
As mentioned above, normally a backstory is entered on the Notes tab instead.
if you click on the name of the background in the description tab, a side bar will appear that shows the description of the background
That depends on your browser. If you do a web search for your browser name and “enable popups”, you should be able to find instructions.
no problem
The mouse over on the web page does not change when I hover over the word Background
Bug maybe?
probably just an oversight but most things in bold on the sheet can be clicked and a side bar will appear with more information about it
thanks, thats useful to know
Oh thats interesting, some of the stuff is hidden in the shared link? Like that "Description" tab?
I made sure that pop ups and third party cookies are enabled and the button still doesn’t redirect me to where I need to go
yeah the notes and description tabs aren’t visible to people who are viewing with a link.
Do you get the same issue in another browser or on another device?
I figured it out it’s all good
Where can I find the d&d beyond guide for newcomers?, I found it once before but can't seem to find it again.
Yeah thats the one,thanks
If my players own books, can they be shared with the rest of the campaign?
If the campaign has content sharing enabled via a master tier subscription
i don't see a place for this but does the pre-order of the Phandelver book come with perks?
I'd be shocked if it didn't, but I don't think anything's been announced yet.
thanks. just saw the pre-order and so i bought it right away with out checking lol
got excited if it wasn't obvious lol
That sounds like a question for #homebrew.
(This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond.)
Oh sorry
In dndbeyond.com I'm trying to get Enhanced Ability and Divination into my Wizard's spell list. I have Optional Class Features turned on in the main settings and Additional Wizard Spells checked off in the class settings.
Can you post a screen shot of both, just to check? (This channel allows screenshots)
-> now it is showing them... maybe it needed some time to update.
Hi everyone I am new and just got dnd beyond any tips
There’s an article here that covers the basics.
But if you’ve got a more specific question, feel free to ask.
All books are displaying wrong when the Dark or Clean display style are selected. Can anyone help me fix this?
Pictures aren’t scaling to my screen size
did ddb remove paypal as payment?
Usually when folks have seen issues like this, reinstalling the app fixes it. I'd suggest trying that - just reinstall the app.
is there a reason the homebrew function doesnt allow you to choose the recovery type for spells despite showing it as an option on another page?
Still shows up there on the Payment screen for me.
Because the system lists all options in a given field even if that option doesn't apply to what you're homebrewing
very odd since that means for homebrew magic items you can only allow spells to be at will or not at all
i wonder if theres a way to get around this
What do you mean? If a magic item casts a spell with limited uses, you need to set up charges
i mean like for example a magic item might let you cast shield 1/day and fireball 1/day or something like that
So if a magic item casts Fireball at 3rd level up to 3 times per day, you need to set the item to have 3 charges and set the fireball spell mapped to that item to use 1 charge per third level casting
You set up charges for that
Best way to figure out how is by copying an item that does something similar
is there an item that lets you cast more than one kind of spell 1/day each?
That’s not how official magic items are really designed.
i see
And since the homebrew tools are ultimately built to facilitate the official rules, you may run into these kinds of issues if you step too far outside of what’s been done officially.
You could try pairing your item with a homebrew feat, though, if you need that kind of setup.
yeah I think the feat route is what I need to do. okay i was on the right track just didn't know if that was simplest way to do it
is there a way to override the damage dice of a homebrew magic weapon? specifically I want a light hammer to deal 1d8 bludgeoning instead of 1d4
I'm afraid not, but you could try adding it as a custom action directly on the character sheet instead. Head to Actions and hit "Manage Custom" in the top right corner.
okay on the flip side do you know how to add a 20/60 thrown range to a warhammer? i managed to get thrown property on but haven't found how to change the ranges
it defaulted to 5/5 currently
I'm not sure on that one. If you can find an official magic item that changes the range, you could make a homebrew copy of it and see how that was set up.
But I'm not aware of any that do. (If there aren't any, it may not be possible.)
it seems like the dwarven thrower which is essentially the same thing just puts it in the item description and calls it a day
Hey guys, how do i submit a find-a-dm request, I have no idea how to edit the message.
- Type
/looking-for dm - Send the message as-is.
- You'll get a private form to fill out.
- Click the buttons at the bottom and provide your answers for each section.
- Click "Submit".
anyone know why one of my players (a monk) quarterstaff is not showing 1d6 as the one handed damage, but instead showing 1d8 for both one and two handed?
when i add a quarterstaff to another one of my players sheets, it displays correctly (1d6 and 1d8 respectively)
What size is their martial arts die?
If they’re level 11-16, then 1d8 is correct.
I had the same issue a few weeks ago and I did fix it by reinstalling the app. But doing so erased all my bookmarks. So I am hoping for a more permanent solution one where I won’t have to reinstall the app every other week😁
Is it possible to add fey spirit from 3rd level spell summon fey to your character as an extra? I don't see it when trying to add an extra.
I'm creating a homebrewed class: fighter with a different choice of what type of "elemental" (magic-wielding) subclass you can pick. I've experimented with the elements being different choices upon picking the subclass, but I've ran into an error. There is no limit on how many times you can pick the elemental options, and each time you do, it repeats the spells attached to it. How do I limit this choice to only one time?
if i bought a real dnd book. Can i get this book stuff into dnd beyond?
?books
There are five ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books
- Purchase the full book from the marketplace
- Purchase individual elements from the marketplace (options can be found within the book description)
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from dndstore.wizards.com
- Join a campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond. Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
Looks in the class feature for a field called Class Levels Where Options Known. If you put a 3 there, for example, they’d get one choice at level 3.
Not by default, since the stats depend on the spell level. You could create a homebrew monster to add there if you wanted, though.
Like this? Because that's what it is already, and they get to choose it multiple times at level 3. They're only supposed to choose it once.
No, that’s just the level at which the feature itself is unlocked.
The field you need is inside there.
Yep, right there.
I already did that before. Still acts up.
If the page on the character is refreshed, the extras go away. However, I can keep adding them in character builder, because it doesn't show as a final selection in the "elements" have been made.
You already put a 3 in “Class Levels Where Options Known”?
Because it’s empty in your screenshot there.
Oh. Let me try that. Thank you.
It's still doing it. I'll have to try again later: deleting and rebuilding the character.
Is there a way to filter/sort the sourcebooks so I can see everything I own/have a license for?
I see the list in my account screen, but it's only a list, I can't click on any of the items there.
I think I've exhausted all of my ideas for where to look.
There is not unfortunately. You would need to cross reference. But when you click into a book if you dont have access it will redirect to the marketplace
Well, if you click in past the table of contents.
Is this the place to ask questions about Homebrew Subclass related things?
#homebrew would be best to start with. This channel is more for DnDBeyond technical support.
ty
My issue from yesterday is still continuing, even after put a "3" in the "Class Levels Where Options Known".
I started a new campaign, and one of my players has joined, but for some reason the button to activate content sharing isn't showing up. Any ideas?
Do one of the users in the campaign have a Master Tier subscription? Someone with that level of subscription needs to enable content sharing for the campaign.
Yes, I do. I'm sharing content in all of my other campaigns.
Also you can only enable content sharing on up to 5 campaigns - so if you've already used this feature on other campaigns, the 6th campaign can't have content sharing enabled until you deactivate it on one of the previous 5 campaigns.
Oh, that's definitely the issue, then. Thanks!
Worth noting that if someone else with a subscription activates it, your content will still be shared.
Good to know, thanks.
Hello. I want to purchase a digital content bundle, but the shopping cart does not credit the cost of resources that are part of the bundle that I already own. The site says that amount is deducted, but I'm not seeing that in the shopping cart. Am I missing something? Thank you.
Did you purchase them on the website or through the app, and are you attempting to purchase the bundle on the website or the app? There is also a minimum price of USD1.99 on all purchases.
On the website. The remaining price should be around $40. But in the shopping cart, still shows the full bundle price.
I would suggest opening a ticket with support so they can look into it.
Does it matter that the bundles are currently on sale? Maybe not an option if they are already marked off?
It should not, but I can't be sure.
Ok. Thank you. I will follow your suggestion.
Do you have it set as a gift purchase instead of a purchase for yourself?
There should be an option there in the cart to switch between the two.
(Unless you already bought it for yourself.)
What is a good boss for a level 4 party of 3
A CR 4 creature would be a moderate challenge for level 4 party of four.
But you can play around with Encounters to match them up against your own party and calculate the difficulty.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-encounters
(If you were looking for specific monster suggestions, that’s probably a better question for #dm-discussion.)
not showing for me. ive tried different browser but remains the same
Do you get the same issue in another browser, or on another device?
yes im using opera, firefox, and chrome
That looks like elements are being removed by an ad blocker or other browser extension
Is purchasing the digital-physical bundle of Phandelver and Below the only way to get early access to it digitally on Sept. 5th?
Yep (though the early access actually starts on Sep. 1st)
some plugins erroneously block such elements
IE an ad block or no script
do you use ad block on both?
Meanwhile: So I"m trying to add a custom attack to symbolize the Force Ballista of the Eldritch cannon but it keeps adding proficency bonuses, any idea how to add that so it does not?
giving it a to hit requires a stat to it
I can't change the DC modifier without adding a proficency bonus even if not proficient
That’s a system limitation, and why the Force Ballista isn’t automatically displayed as an attack.
You can set a damage bonus of -5 to cancel it out.
i need a bit of help. i created a homebrew modifier feat that was supposed to only apply advantage to perception checks that require sound & touch. ive accidentally made it give advantage to all my ability checks
ive since reversed my mistake to only give advantage to perception, but it isnt updating it. any help?
it can take 15-20 minutes to update due to caching
ah alright thank you
You want #character-discussion
in dndbeyond i've chosen hex warrior subclass for warlock, but i don't get the option to touch my wep to be based off charisma, any fix please? it's not there when i click on my wep, and im in browser
Can you provide a link to your character?
lemme have a look
You're using a homebrew subclass. Hex Warrior isn't an official subclass, it's the name of the subclass ability of the Hexblade
You'll need to speak to whoever created this subclass to fix it
oh? whats the name of the official subclass/
only 3 options come up, fiendm hex warrior and hexwarriot
hexwarrior
Hexblade, which is not a free subclass
You're seeing the free subclass (Fiend) plus two homebrew subclasses (hex warrior and hexwarrior)
is it possible to buy the subclass without buying the whole book, id get it if its cheap 😛
You can, it's $1.99 and can be bought from Xanathar's Guiide to Everything
now we're talking 🙂 if i look up the book its like 29.99
where do i go for just the subclass?
That is the full book; compendium + listings
For individual purchase options, scroll down from the description
I’m so sorry to bother but how does one post a game ?
Follow the instructions in #find-a-game
Oh sorry I’m dyslexic I misunderstood what it was saying thank you very much
is there a way to override your spell save dc?
There isn't
gross
Although nothing stops you from rolling dice and calculating things outside of what the DnDBeyond character sheet indicates.
I mean, avrae kinda does
You can roll custom dice commands with Avrae
Also it should be noted that the spell save DC isn't something you roll, but monsters roll against
do you think I'm braindead or somethin?
There's no need to be rude
I was pointing out that you don't need to modify anytihng in terms of what Avrae rolls for a customised spellsave DC as it's not dynamically linked to any part of the character sheets digital dice
Avrae rolls against the dc on the sheet to determine what statuses are applied.
I need find a way to make the spell save dc higher
This would be a question better suited to #ddb-avrae-help then, but you can specify a manual DC for any roll you make in avrae
HI! I'm trying to made a version of a feat called Fiend Touched. how do I limit spell choices to certain schools of magic? Additionally, when I try to make a modified version of Fey Touched, I couldn't find a way to change it.
Can anybody help?
You can't, the character sheet service doesn't currently support spell option filtering by spell school
Dang it.
You'd need to use the homebrew tools. A feat might do it; a magic item definitely will. Either way, give it a Modifier with...
- Type: Bonus
- Subtype: Spell Save DC
- Fixed Value: (the number to add)
Hello! Question for anyone who may know. I have used DnD Beyond a lot, but a friend in my group had all the content and we used content sharing. I am trying to start my own campaign and not have to rely on him for that. Does anyone have recommendations on the order of operations of the sourcebooks I should get? Specifically ones that allow all content for building characters. Currently I don't have access to all races and classes and am limited on schools and traditions and all of that. What sourcebooks would help build that content?
Not really a tech help question, but the PHB, TCOE, XGTE, and MOTM have the most character options.
You can also buy character options individually instead of getting the whole book. (Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself as well.)
So it's pretty easy to just get what you need when you need it.
There is nothing "tech" listed on the channel, just "help."
yeah, the problem with buying individually is I don't know what I need to buy. lol. I have only ever played DnD through DnD beyond, so I don't know what is missing. I only know I have access to it because I see it. I would hate to limit a player on their build just because I personally don't know it could be there. I wouldn't know what to search for to buy it individually.
My point was more that "Which book should I buy" is not really a question inherently related to D&D Beyond itself. #dm-discussion or #dnd-discussion might be a better fit.
That's fair. I felt it more dndbeyond specific since it was about "unlocking" content on the website more than just "finding" content in the manuals, but that makes sense too.
Is there any way to access the feat decision tree options in a feat like Fey Touched for homebrew feats? Creating a copy of Fey Touched doesn't copy any options, and there seem to be intrinsic properties related to the feat that can't be adjusted (options show up in the character sheet that I don't want there, but can't remove).
Those were created with dark magics beyond the reach of us mortals.
Dang! Is there any kind of a roadmap for when those sorts of options will be opened up to us mortals?
I have no insight into any of that, I'm afraid.
Double dang! Haha. Well, thanks for the answers either way.
So, I’m multiclassing in warlock hexblade for a level, and I’m trying to add spells. It’s my understanding that shield and wrathful smite lvl 1 spells should be added to my spell list, and I should get to choose two. But when I add two spells of my own, those two that I’m supposed to get with hexblade, doesn’t show on my character sheet. Am I doing something wrong/ misunderstanding something?
Also, my dm is asking us to add a feat, regardless of race. Where do I find the option to add a feat?
Those spells are added to the list you can choose from, not the spells you know
and manually adding a feat can be done on the character sheet by going to features and traits. then go to feats, then manage feats
The Hexblade lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.
Great, thank you
Can I please get help
This channel is for getting help with DnDBeyond tools and services. What do you need help with?
How do I homebrew a spell so it rolls more dice at a higher level like Firebolt on DNDBEYOND?
You could make a homebrew copy of Fire Bolt if you want to peek inside and see how it was set up.
How would i remove certain items from my inventory
Or a better question would be how do i use my items in my inventory
Are u talking no about arrows? If so just use(equip) them and everytime you roll to attack with a bow it will auto deduct
Ahhh ok thanks homie
i read somewhere that dndbeyond supports a VTT what is it?
Nope, D&D Beyond doesn't support any current VTT
You may have heard that Wizards of the Coast, who owns D&D Beyond, is developing a digital play experience (aka a VTT)
dang ok was hoping it did
there are a number of third party tools that help to integrate DDB with a number of VTTs but they are not officially supported and may cause issues with the site on occasion. Still might be what you are looking for
Why can’t I post in looking for players
Did you read #find-a-game? It has instructions on how to post there. Please read it carefully.
Theres an extension called Beyond20 where you can link ur character sheet from DND beyond to Roll20
It is a third party creation, and not supported by D&D Beyond nor Roll20 and can (and regularly does) break the websites.
hi i need help homebrewing the warforged skirmisher subrace from ua into dnd beyon idk how to work this thing
Where exactly are you stuck?
You'll need to use Options any time you want to give the player a choice.
Each row there would be its own Option.
Which books should I buy to unlock all subclasss feats and races on DnD Beyond?
Too many to name off the top of my head. 😅
The PHB, XGTE, TCOE, and MOTM will get you the most.
But you can open each book in the marketplace if you want to see what’s inside it.
(You can even buy subclasses, etc. by themselves from there. Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.)
A funny thing is if you buy a book here and there eventually you reach a point where it's actually a no brainer to buy the legendary bundle to complete everything off and you get 15% off all future book purchases.
Whenever i try and add i spell to my warlock it keeps going into the 4th level spell catagory
can anyone help?
Warlocks always cast at the highest spell slot level their warlock level allows - it's part of the warlock's rules.
oh ok, but does this mean i cant cast as many spells?
The Warlock table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your warlock spells of 1st through 5th level. The table also shows what the level of those slots is; all of your spell slots are the same level. […] You regain all expended Pact Magic spell slots when you finish a short or long rest.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/warlock#PactMagic-387
so if i wanted to cast misty step it wouldnt use a 4th level slot
You would have to use a 4th level slot. That’s all you have.
It would - unless it's coming from some other feature (race or feat feature).
For a level 7-8 warlock, anyway.
so i can only cast two spells in battle
Until you short or long rest, yes.
thankyou for your help
you also have cantrips which don't use spell slots
im using mage hand, eldritch blast and prestidigitation
im trying to focus on a more trickster type of playstyle, what cantrips would you reccomend
For further discussion about your character, you might want to check in with #character-discussion - this channel is more for technical support for DnDBeyond tools and services.
ok
can someone hop in a vc and help me out? im trying to make a subclass this is my first time and its just its not going over well. feel free to pm me if you wish to help
We don’t have a voice chat here, but where exactly are you stuck?
all of it
thats why i asked if someone wants ot pm me they can and i can vc with them there
All I can suggest without further information is to try and find an official subclass that works similarly to yours. Then you can make a homebrew copy of it and see exactly how it was set up.
I've entered a 3rd party subclass into my homebrew. The class adds Chill Touch, but I now noticed that when a character with the class uses an Amulet of the Devout, the bonus is not added to the attack bonus of the cantrip, which I assume it should. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
hi im a dm in a campaign and i can't acces one of my player's character sheets it comes up with the error code 09cf05c09d5b4a4bb0ad47f7b2e4b455 anyon that can help with this?
It could be the players subscription has lapsed and you're trying to access a now locked character
it might be one of those things il check when the campaign starts up
Is there a way to add Supernatural Gifts to a character sheet without using homebrew?
Not currently, no
You could potentially add it as a custom action, directly on the character sheet.
Works better for some gifts than others.
Hey, I'm looking at the Phandelver and Below pre-order options. I'm really only interested in the digital bundle, but the digital + physical states that you early access to the digital product (05 Sept instead of 19 Sept). I don't see the same early access on the digital only page.
Does the digital only pre-order also include the 2 week early access?
No, that's a pre order perk for the digital/physical bundle
thanks for confirming 🙂
What’s going on with the iOS app? Is it broken or am I missing an update or something?
You may be missing an update or have a bad install. Every time we've seen that come up so far reinstalling it has fixed it.
i need some help homebrewing a magic item
It looks like a reinstall fixed it. I reinstalled a couple of books and they seem fine. Now to reinstall the rest of them 😭
where do i post suggestions for a race not implemented in D&D beyond yet? i don't think it is the home brew discussion tab on this sever.
There is a #homebrew channel, however races are only officially implimented on D&D Beyond when released as part of an official product
You can use the homebrew tools to add your own races, though.
where is that?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/my-creations - should be a button at the top "Create a" and then select the thing you want to make.
These are the same tools (minus some backend database things) that DnDBeyond staff use to create the official materials.
I should also note that these tools are not polished up for mobile device use.
Hello. I'd like to play D&D and join the community, but I want to give it a try online before I buy the board game, dice, books, etc. I'll see how it goes and decide what to do after if I like it or not. What ought I to do? How do I begin?
Welcome! There’s a bunch of helpful links in #dnd-newcomers to get you started.
(This channel is specifically for help with dndbeyond.com)
DnD Beyond is basically the game itself online?
It’s an online digital toolset for playing D&D.
I see.
D&D itself is basically just you and your friends telling a story together, which you can do wherever or however you like.
Yes, I'm aware of that part.
The game is quite complicated, correct?
Specially for new comers.
This article covers the basics of DDB, though:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/754-how-to-play-dungeons-dragons-using-d-d-beyond
Do I need to read the rulebook before playing?
Nope.
There can be a lot to learn, but once you’ve got the basics down, it’s not that bad. Again, the folks in #dnd-newcomers can help you get started.
You can learn to play using just the Basic Rules and SRD that are in CC
Gotcha.
Or, As Spam said, join the #dnd-newcomers channel. I've yet to meet someone who knows D&D that isn't ecstatic to share the love and teach others!
But yeah, the free Basic Rules cover everything you need to know:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules
Noted.
SRD and CC stand for?
Standard Reference Document and Creative Commons
the "free stuff" you don't have to pay for.
I see.
You can find that all in the Basic Rules. ☝️
At the risk of being seen as bias'd, you can also create the character on DDB w/ the easy wizard, then you can use Avrae to automate a large chunk of the combat/checks/etc
Alrighty.
I'm already hella confused, so I'm just going to review the guide above first, and the basic rules. See how it goes.
Thanks for your time, folks.
Sounds good, if you have any questions, feel free to ask in #dnd-newcomers , and we, or someone else, will happily answer them!
Gotcha.
And again, the links there will give you a few other good starting points, too. ☝️
👍
Hi, I'm attempting to create a Gem Dragonborn Character, I have purchased the physical copy of Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, so I can't use DnD Beyond to create the character sheet.
Does anyone know an alternative site for building this character? I'm still sort of new, so I still struggle to build one from scratch using a printed Character Sheet
Someone has suggested using Homebrew, and I think that would be the Races, then Varient option
but I'm still really new and usually have a buddy walk me through making a character, but I'm doing this one alone
Yeah, you’d set that up as a Variant race.
(You can also buy just that race instead of the whole book, if that’s all you need. Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself, too.)
Thank you
When i have book on paper is there a way to unlock it in app?
Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
Y’all really have this Discord thing figured out. I’ve been consistently impressed with the bot commands, general setup of the server, and activity of the mods. Good work!
how do i apply my artificer infusions to my weapons and how do i get it to use intelligence on my weapons from battlesmith
nevermind i found it
How do i find dm?
@little plume this channel is for getting help with the D&D Beyond site, tools, and services. For information on using our game finding channels, check out #find-a-game
You can't make custom base weapons, but you can make a custom action. Go to the actions tab and select manage custom
rip
can i get it to be affected by my feats
nvm
How can I create a custom feat in D&D Beyond that gives me +1 attunement slot?
I think you’d add a modifier with…
- Type: Set
- Subtype: Attunement Slots
- Fixed Value: 4
I tried this, and it sets it to 1.
(FWIW, the DMG explicitly warns against adding attunement slots.)
Even with the Fixed Value: 4?
The campaign I am in uses the Character Options Talent books.
Yep, even with fixed value 4.
Modifier Type: Set
Modifier Subtype: Attunement Slots
Fixed Value: 4
I have tried with and without setting Additional Bonus Types to Attuned Item Count, but both ways it sets the total attunement slots to 1.
Not sure if it is a caching/server delay issue. I might have to make a change and wait longer to test it.
Ah, now it worked. It was a server caching issue.
Key seems to NOT select Additional Bonus Types.
Yeah, homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to pop up on your sheet.
Thanks. Good to know. I thought it was just me 😄
There is a modifier for homebrew feats that allows me to select an ability score to increase by 1.
Is there a similar way to DEcrease an ability score by 1?
You could try the same modifier with a Fixed Value of -1.
Haven’t tried it myself, though.
I tried but couldn't get it to work.
Also read some forums where it said negative values don't work.
I will just have to reduce the ability score manually in D&D Beyond on the character sheet.
hi so i have tasha's cauldrin on dnd beyond which has bladesingers in it yet i cant play one does anyone know why. It doesnt show up on character creation
When you say you have it, does that mean you purchased it yourself or that it’s being shared with you?
Shared character options are only available for characters assigned to the campaign that’s sharing them.
So I need some help with homebrewing
How would I have spells for a certain subclass always be prepared and certain spells to unlock through time? I.E you get Misty Step at 5th level and Thunderstep at 9th level
What class is this for?
It’s for a homebrew class, called Dronemason
DDB doesn’t have an option for homebrew classes, so you may have some difficulty there.
Subclass, sorry
So the subclass is Dronemason? What’s the class, though?
Artificer
Assuming you’re following the same pattern as the official artificer subclasses, then, you can just put all the spell names on the main subclass screen in a field called Additional Specific Spells.
The player will get those spells when they get spellslots for that level.
Gotcha, thanks!
i’m making a wizard for my campaign and i have learned spells but none are prepared and i’m wondering how to prepare them. it could be that i don’t have the needed materials but it hasn’t happened with my warlock with some of the same spells.
If you're on the sheet itself, go to:
Spells -> Manage Spells -> Spellbook
You can then prepare from the spells you have in your spellbook.
Adding more spells to the Spellbook is the same process, but going to Add Spells as opposed to Spellbook on the last step.
thank you so much ellie i appreciate it:)
Of course. Likewise, if you're in the character builder, go to Step 2. Class under the Wizard section and choose Spellbook (again) before preparing that way. That lets you prepare spells without having to leave the character builder, which is useful for leveling up.
This channel is for getting help using D&D Beyond's site, tools, and services. You want #dnd-newcomers
r the servers down or sum? switch connection to diff sources and still doesn't load further than this
Is anyone experiencing failure in the android mobile app feat manager?
It won't let me read descriptions or pick options
I'm not experiencing any issues on my end. Have you tried clearing your cache and reloading the page?
how would I code the following item in DDB?
Dueling pistol
Weapon type: firearm
Range: 50/150
Damage: 1d6 piercing
Critical damage: 3d10 piercing
Properties: Loading, ammunition (firearm)
to reiterate on this, I presume it would require using DDB's homebrew tool system
?
Wait a second editing the artillerist in DND beyond shows that the force ballista has valid entries!
I'm starting to think I may have just instead found a bug in DDB
Caching is a wonderful and terrible thing... (likely the issues is caching)
Hey in D&D Beyond via homebrow, how do I make it where with a subclass feature they gain 20ft. of truesight, only when they reach 18th level it's increased by an additonal 20ft. up to 40ft.?
I got the sense Truesight modifier down, now I just need to figure out how to have it where when they reach the required level that sense is increased?
@edgy oriole I found the issue, its literally that the force ballista has "Display as Attack" turned off... (and seemingly erroneously has add proficiency turned on) Consider this my bug report
There's an option to make another feature that replaces the previous one
copy it, double the stat, change the level requirement and name, then make it replace the original
example
yooo we got force ballista:
The problem is that if you give it an ability score, that modifier gets automatically applied to both the attack and damage — which is incorrect for the Force Ballista.
That’s why the Force Ballista isn’t displayed as an attack by default.
If they add the ability score, it get incorrectly included in the damage roll. If they don’t add it, it doesn’t display an attack roll.
So the answer to this question is to go back into the Customize menu where you set it to display as an attack. In there is a field called Damage Bonus. Putting the -5 there would cancel out the +5 that’s already included.
“Replacement” is for optional class features (from TCOE). The player would only get that replacement if they manually enable it.
Level override option then to change a stat similiar to how the eldritch cannon does it?
Also considering trying to homebrew a copy of the homuculus servant AS the eldritch cannon as abovevtt plugin for example can turn those stats into valid roll buttons, and the cannon is supposed to be a construct anyways
but I can't see how the homuculus servant is set up as an artificer infusion, because it ONLY shows up as a valid creature via the use of the infusion...
"I can fix him"

wait, darn... creatures don't inherit my spell save dc
Guess the backend needs an update where proficiency bonus can be applied separately to to hit and damage
Or...
OOOOOOOR
If no stat is specified on a spell, default to using AC
Level Override only works for Actions, not Modifiers.
I think you’ll have to add a separate class feature at that level, with the required modifier.
It’ll need to be Granted, not Replacement.
Infusions were made with dark magics beyond the reach of us mortals.
Maaaan the more I look at this the more I want to understand the code underlying it
is thre a way in dndbeyond to make a fighter subclass that's proficient in dex saves instead of strength?
hi, I'm making a race in ddb that has a racial ability that forces a saving throw. Instead of having the DC have a set flat value that would scale horribly over the course of a campaign (like the grung's dc 12 con save for poison), I'd like to have it scale off the character's strength (it's a hyena race and their bite power is rlly strong, so I want to force a grapple check lol)
I'm unsure how to do the little bits of formatting to make it appear correctly
I have this so far since I looked at the lizardfolk and grabbed those formatting things, but I'm unsure how to do the forced save
You would need to use snippets, which are a special text field that displays in certain parts of the character sheet
You can find more information on snippets here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/25930-using-snippet-codes-in-your-homebrew
amazing, I'll check that out. thanks
Assuming you’re meaning to change the initial saving throw proficiencies that the Fighter class gets: not as given, since the initial saving throw proficiencies are hard coded into the classes and you can’t modify the base class.
You can give the fighter proficiency in Dexterity saving throws as a subclass feature, in addition to the pre-existing two, as a feature though.
amazing, thanks
oh I should size restrict that
I’d just change it on the sheet. Click on either proficiency, and you can adjust it in the sidebar.
so I'm trying to make a warlock, but it's only listing a single patron. I know there are more in the PH and I own that on DnDBeyond. Why aren't they showing up?
Did you purchase the PHB yourself, or is it being shared with you?
Shared character options are only available for characters assigned to the campaign that’s sharing them.
Then what's the point of Sharing? If you can't use the material it's not shared is it?
it's more "look what you can't do loser".
You can use it, within that campaign.
It’s as if you joined up for a game in person and someone brought their book to share.
When they go home, and you head to another game, you no longer have that book with you.
If you want to carry the book around yourself and use it wherever you go, you'd need to get your own copy.
Alternatively, you can buy just the subclass you need instead of the whole book. Whatever you spend gets credited toward the cost of the book itself as well.
you can make a character inside the campaign, and when they are finished you can remove the character again. if for some reason the char can't just stay inside the campaign
Hi there. I am having a problem with my dndbeyond account, and I've tried emailing them but I doubt I will hear back before my game this evening. Is this a forum where I can get some help with that?
Hard to say without knowing what the problem is. 😅
I can provide details, but it's honestly kind of complicated, so I didn't want to spam.
Is there a way to make a charisma based cleric in dnd beyond?
When I try to access any of my characters, I get the message that an error has repeatedly occurred. I suspect the issue is related to the fact that my subscription lapsed and I had more than 6 characters. (the subscription lapsed because I had to change my ATM card because of fraud, and in a shocking turn of events, I didn't remember every single yearly subscription in my life.) So after a round of "help" via email, I was told to just resubscribe, which I did, but now i can't even access the three current character sheets I had access to.
I've tried clearing cookies and history and signing in from scratch, but I still get the error message.
Off to grab dinner. I will check back in later, but if anyone's encountered this particular problem and knows a work around, I would be very grateful.
Hi! I'm making a subclass for the sorcerer, and it has a level 1 feature that allows you to choose 1 of 4 spell lists. I'm having trouble getting it to where I can choose and adds those spells into my character. They count as spells prepared so ideally should show up as spells I can cast. I got two out of four added, I thought I did it right but it isn't working right. In the character builder it only shows 1 out 2 that I've made, and whenever I select the only available option, when ever I click out of that specific part of character builder it deselects itself as if I never selected it in the first place. Anyone here able to help me out?
(I've never worked with subclass homebrew before today)
Hi. I've bought a ton of content so far. However, as of yesterday a cannot purchase anything no matter which credit card I use. I keep getting a "gateway Error" message. Can you help?
That's not something we can help with here through the discord server, you'll need to contact customer support via the site:
http://dndbeyond.link/SubmitTicket
However, a few things to check
- You're entering the right details for your card
- Your bank hasn't put a block on that card/DDB transactions
Thank you
@lilac brook First things first, you say you purchased the monsters from WDH, I assume you mean you purchased the individual monsters?
I bought the item and monster bundles
Second things second, do they appear in your account under licenses/transactions?
Order Transactions: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace#:~:text=Redeemed by shlingg-,Order Transactions,-Your recent order
Current Product Licenses: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace#:~:text=Current Product Licenses
Yes, they do.
Cool, cool
Third things third, where are you trying to view the monsters and what happens when you try?
(btw you don't need to ping me every time, I'm actively keeping an eye on this convo)
When I try to look to look up the monsters via the encounter builder I get the "There's more to this monster!" And when I look up the item on D&Dbeyond it sends me to the marketplace (same when I try to do so via Avrae)
When you scroll down the page from that second screenshot, do you see this:
The ✔️ next to each monster?
I do not, I only see the check for the Paper Bird item
Yes
When you go here: https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace#:~:text=Account Entitlements
Do you see a "sync my entitlements" button?
And in the Order Transactions and Current Product Licenses, does it explicitly say you've purchased the item bundle and monster bundle (with the correct prices)?
I don't see it, but the prices do check out
Uh, that's Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage, not Waterdeep: Dragon Heist
different books
Pffft, I am so sorry for that!
No worries, sometimes you just need a second pair of eyes
Bump
@modest pelican can i get some help?
i think i bought the digital book on the wrong account can i transfer it pls? its my first time buying a book i made a huge mistake :C
I can't help with that and also it's not necessary or appropriate to randomly ping people
You'll need to contact customer support
So pre-orders are not part of the sale?
Correct
You may need to provide more information. Screenshots, for example.
Does anyone know if Avrea be updated with One DND when it comes out? And if that will that be on release, or slowly after?
Nothing’s been officially announced either way.
I don’t see any reason it wouldn’t be added.
You should see a field that says something about options. If you have 4 options at level 1 make sure you have the following in the box: 1,1,1,1
(I don't remember where that box is at in the homebrew section and I can't look at the moment)
Let me get some screenshots
Okay, I just cannot see an answer. In the feat Eldritch Adept you can gain a new Invocation. That works perfectly. I would like to create one that adds two invocations instead. When I clone the feat and look at it, there does not seem to be a mechanism that actually adds the invocation. What am I missing? I see this homebrew feat: https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/1117311-eldritch-master which is properly adding in eight invocations and each one is changing the character sheet correctly. How do I do that too?
The official one was likely made with dark magics beyond the reach of us mortals.
that link was to someone's homebrew, so it works somehow
That homebrew one probably manually recreated all the possible choices.
I don’t think there is one.
Other than to find out what choice the person wants and recreate only that.
For a Warlock, anything in Additional Specific Spells is going to be added to the Warlock spell list for them automatically. You probably don’t want your Earth and Chthonic Spells in there.
It’s for a sorcerer
Ah, sorry. For a sorcerer, it’s going to make those spells automatically prepared.
(It just follows whatever pattern the official subclasses follow for that class.)
Either way, if you want your player to choose Earth Spells before they can get those spells, it shouldn’t be in Additional Specific Spells.
Then inside Earth Spells itself, you need to Add a Spell for each one individually.
If you try to do them all in one, it will ask the player to choose between them.
I am not sure it is via options, you can create an option for Agonizing Blast, but you cannot add a Modifier to the option only Actions aka adding in the Charisma bonus damage to the dice - but his feat is able to do that upon selecting agonizing blast
I can recreate Agonizing Blast by itself in a feat, but not as an option in a feat
What I’m thinking is something like the Lunar sorcery, just you can’t change once you’ve picked.
Have you made a homebrew copy of Lunar Sorcery to see how it was set up?
I was using that as a template. But that sounds like a good idea.
hey, hope you're all having a nice day!! my friend & i have been having trouble accessing the website for a few days now & it seems to be up for everyone else :( does anyone know why this would happen?
Do you get the same problem in another browser or on another device?
yes!! it doesnt work on other browser/devices & it's the same thing for my friend. what's weird is another friend isn't having the same issues & it opens just as normal for him, so i can't figure out the problem :< it's probably not an isp thing either since we have different providers
That error message essentially means that the peer or something in between (most likely a firewall) is terminating the connection forcibly. There are several ways to fix this issue. To start with, try clearing your browser cache or turning off your VPN (if you have one).
cleared cache (i dont have a vpn) & still wont work but thank you for the suggestion T^T
The local server could be down for you
@bright yacht This is the DDB help channel
You don't need to be the DM of a campaign to enable content sharing. So the DM can own the campaign, but whoever has the DM tier can enable content sharing for that campaign
The more important part of my question is that my dm doesn't have the dm tier, so can he make a campaign on there for us or would me or that other player need to and then could the dm then do what the dm needs to do in the campaign. I haven't used that feature yet, and didn't want to just start it and my idea of giving him the reigns not work. I know what I am meaning, but not if I am asking it right.
You don't need a subscription to make a campaign
Okay. Thank you. That is great news. I will let my group know that. 👍
Hi! I'm building a subclass for Sorcerer and every time I go to save the Class Feature I'm finishing it reloads the page, with my fields still filled in. But if I click on the class name near the top it loads up as though I sent a link to someone and if I go to edit it again the feature is missing. Is this a common issue or am I doing something wrong?
nevermind figured out what I was doing wrong: I wasnt choosing the feature type but it wasnt lighting up red or anything
How do you play an Artificer in dndbeyond?
Do you mean how do you access it?
You have to either
- Buy the book it's in (Eberron: Rising from the Last War or Tasha's Cauldron of Everything)
- Buy it individually by purcashing any one of its subclasses from Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
- Have someone share it with you via content sharing
Okay thanks
How do I just buy 1 subclass? Is that even a thing?
ty
ON the website market place
Okay
Works for races subclasses spells magic items etc. the money you spend counts towards the price of the book
Okay, thank you!
I am trying to make a subrace of a homebrew race im writing in and I used it normally and with the variant check box but they show up as their own races is there a way to fix that?
I updated my subscription and it isn't changing what tier I have on dnd beyond but it shows I made the purchase. What do I do?
I’m afraid not. That’s how all homebrew races are displayed.
Does it show the correct subscription tier here? Are your account entitlements in sync?
https://www.dndbeyond.com/account/marketplace
That sucks thanks for the info though!
A couple years ago I created a Phyrexian race and I have it in my homebrew collection but I cannot still see it in a mailable races when I try to create a character. Can someone tell me why it won't let me use my race?
I have a D&D Beyond question. I am Master Tier. started my own campaign most of the folks in my household created their characters on my account. I want to add them to my campaign. I only see a way to send a campaign link to other accounts not add my own characters. Anyone have advice on how to do that?
Just add that campaign url into a new tab/window in your browser and you’ll be prompted to add an existing character to the campaign or to create a new character in that campaign.
Do you have Homebrew Content enabled for that character?
When I add monsters to an encounter, I usually group them if I want them to function as a unit (e.g., 3 orcs, 3 ogres, 3 orcs, etc). Anyway, when I have a group added (ogre, quantity 3; ogre, quantity 3) it moves the lettering around so ogre a will be from group 1 and ogre b will be in the other group (e.g., ACE,BDF), rather than naming them as a group (ABC, DEF). Is there a way to make the groups be lettered in a cohesive way? I want to put down the minis prior to rolling initiative and seeing what the group letters are, but the way I keep seeing it I have to roll first and then stop to place the minis according to the lettering.
You can create unassigned characters and people inside the campaign can claim them
I always turn homebrew on when I try to make a character. I have other people's races I have saved that show up, but the only 1 I made and have in my homebrew creations and collections is awol from the race list.
Having sort of the same issue as @neon narwhal yesterday. Anyone else not able to access D&DB recently? A few friends of mine and myself aren't able to access the site on any ISP, whether it be wired, WiFi, or mobile
I have not had any issues - but make sure to try it without any browser extensions or VPNs enabled.
Also sometimes 3rd-party antivirus can be overly aggressive and block stuff.
I haven't changed anything except for resetting my PC. My friends experienced it first while I was having no issues, just when I restarted my PC, that's when it said the site couldn't be reached.
Their own workaround is using a VPN or just not going through the CDN
Also try clearing your browser cache - some browsers (ahem Chrome) can be very finiky with holding on to old/outdated cache which can cause issues.
Yeah, done that as well. Done all basic troubleshooting
Using a VPN working suggests a local issue with traffic routing
I'm accessing D&D Beyond right now
Thank you . that helped.
How can I redistribute racial bonuses? Got Tasha's shared with me
- Make sure the character you're making is being made in the campaign Tasha's is being shared through
- Make sure that you have customise your origin enabled on the first page of the character builder, it's under Optional Features
- On the race step, go to Origin Manager, and enable "Origin Ability Score Increase"
You can then apply this from either the race page or the abilities page
Thanks!
While I'm at it, do you know how can I change tiefling bloodline/subrace?
You would need to select the appropriate variant. If you can't see any variants, that means you don't have access to them
There are just 4 tiefling races in total
No, there's 1 tiefling race and then several variants
The Basic Rules/Player's Handbook provides access to the race
You can then access variants through books like Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and the legacy book Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes
I see, thanks
Hello there, i just need help in one thing, im about to buy a players bundle a a cos campaing on DDB, is there any know discount cuppons ?
Anyone know how to add a Mouse to the Extra tabs, its not giving me the options
D&D Beyond doesn't use coupons anymore and instead has sales that are applied automatically
The extras menu only allows stat blocks and there isn't a mouse stat block. You could homebrew one and then you'd be able to add that, but officially there are no stats for mice
Thanks Davyd! I forgot I can just use the Rat Stat block
how do i fix this to sign in with google?
the menu in the change settings doesn't have the option to allow tracking
That's a device/browser specific issue, rather than one with D&D Beyond. Not really something we can help with
You could try googling "allow tracking on [browser] for [device]"
i have but i havent been able to find anything, i was just seeing if anyone else has had this problem with chrome related to ddb
When you browse the web on computers or Android devices, you can send a request to websites not to collect or track your browsing data. It's turned off by default.
However, what happens to your
I am having an issue with content sharing. I have a couple games that it works no problem, however i just went to create another and the option to enable content sharing does not show up
Does someone in the campaign have a Master Tier subscription?
Have they enabled content sharing on that campaign?
Do they have less than 5 campaigns that they've enabled content sharing on?
i have the subsription
and the 5 wqould be the problem, thanks
Yep there is a limit to 5 campaigns with content sharing enabled with the master tier subscription enabling that content sharing.
Hey guys, I have a friend who apparently hasn’t migrated their dnd beyond account to wizards and now can’t sign in. Any recommendations?
The only way to login to DnDBeyond is through Twitch, Google, or Apple (and now the Wizards account). Twitch, Google, and Apple logins have been the norm since nearly the beginning. So it would likely be one of those ways.
I thought there was a local dnd beyond account before it moved to be a wizards account (in addition to the google and other options)
can anyone help me make a character and explain some of the basic dnd rules and mechanics? I have no idea how to play but since its summer i have a lot of free time and i would like to start playing
hi
Hi, did you need help with D&D Beyond?
yes
yes
No it started off with Twitch, then Google and Apple. And then relatively recently the Wizards of the Coast account. But typically it's going to be Twitch (deprecated), Apple, or Google accounts to login.
There has never been a stand-alone DnDBeyond user account login.
Ok awesome, that clarifies plenty and will help us find the account. Thank you
You may need to be more specific.
What part of D&D Beyond did you need help with?
hi there, was wondering if anyone could help. I haven't used dnd beyond in forever. But when I started trying to post and look for people, my messages were immediately marked as spam. I'm not spamming, the first message I sent was even marked as spam. I can't even message a moderator because those private messages were marked too
i made myself a monk but i meant to do rouge can someone help me
You can edit the character, and on the class tab, hit the red X next to your monk level to remove the class. Then add rogue instead.
Was that here on the server or in the DDB forums?
Is there a way to put regular backpack into a bag of holding?
Not really but you could create a custom item and label it as a backpack to indicate that the backpack is in the bag of holding.
Thanks
I feel like an idiot for asking but I'm looking for a party with a DM to play with and when it asks would you like to play a community game does it mean like join a party or is it something completely different?
That community game option means are you interested in receiving invites to other Discord servers with D&D games, as advertised in the #looking-for-community channel.
Well, for servers with community-style games, like West Marches.
For example, there might be a lot of players and DMs all playing together in the same shared world.
They can make it easier to find a game session to join, but you might not be playing with the exact same people each session.
I need help finding "Mind Sharpener" so i can buy it
if anyone can help plz lmk
i cant find it :/
isnt that just articifer?
It's found in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/tcoe
yeah but there is no option to buy it
Buying any artificer subclass unlocks the class itself as well, including its infusions like mind sharpener.
Yeah I think you need to buy an artificer subclass to unlock the infusion (mind sharpner is an infusion item).
so i just need to buy this?
No
Buying the artillerist subclass should unlock it
articifer initiate is a feat. you want one of the subclasses
Mind Sharpener is part of an artificer class feature. It’s not an item any other class can just get.
But you can buy the Alchemist, Armor, Artillerist, or Battle Smith subclasses to unlock the Artificer class.
im doing battle singer build so which would yall reccomend
Then if your character is an artificer, you can select the mind sharpener infusion and apply it to a suit of armor.
I don’t know what battle singer is. Did you mean the wizard’s Bladesinging subclass?
ye
im putting two levels on artificer so i can get it
so if i fail a con save i can zap myself 4 times a day to pass the con save
Sounds viable, but that’s more of a #character-discussion topic at that point.
Is there a way to import a character from Roll20 into DnDBeyond?
Nope
D&D Beyond does not support exporting to third party platforms such as roll20
what about importing?
Doesn't support that either
D&D Beyond does not offer any functional connectivity to anything other than discord via the official Avrae discord bot
Where can you find character's weigh
you specify their weight in Description
And you can view the weight of their gear in inventory
is there like a "common weight" if the player didnt specify anything
Nope, you have to specify
There are some options here to randomly generate a height and weight for PHB races:
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#HeightandWeight
Is it possible to register my hardcover books in some way with WoTC and in doing so, activate them on DnDB?
There are five ways to access content on D&D Beyond that you may have in your physical books
- Purchase the full book from the marketplace
- Purchase individual elements from the marketplace (options can be found within the book description)
- Purchase a digital/physical bundle from dndstore.wizards.com
- Join a campaign with someone who already owns the book where content sharing has been enabled
- Use the homebrew tools to copy the content from your physical book into D&D Beyond. Note: Do not publish any content copied in this way, it is for personal use only
Understood, thanks. Bit frustrating but what can ya do
It's important to remember that your physical book has no unique identifier, so there's no way to verify the book belongs to you
Yeah good point. Not really any huge incentive for them to formulate such a verification system either
If you see point 3 above, it's possible to purchase phyiscal books directly from Wizards in such a way that the purchase is verified and you receive a digital code
Aye, I mean for whole retrospective effort
Hello! Im new to the whole dungeons & dragons thingy. Could anyone explain how d&d beyond works?
D&D Beyond is a digital marketplace for official D&D books which can then be used in the D&D Beyond character builder and combat tracker, as well as the homebrew tools
It isn't required to play D&D, but exists to make playing easier
ohhh alright, is there some way to play it kind of online? me and my friends are pretty long distance so we cant meet up and play
Check out #dnd-newcomers
There's lots of information there for getting started, including playing online
Okay! Thanks!
If you want to use custom lineage in ddb, do you have to buy it and if so where? (Please ping)
You need to buy Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
Is it possible to manually add spells to a character who isn’t a wizard on dndbeyond? Don’t want to have the spell in a wand/ring or scroll.
I’d use a homebrew feat for that.
Urgent, how to change arcane armour model in DDB?
Head to the Class tab in the character builder.
Same place the model was selected originally.
No quick way to do it in character sheet?
No
Question: When adding a given spell list feature to a subclass, and it shouldn't count against the list known, which feature does that go into?
Additional spells? Or Spells?
If you’re just following the normal rules for the official subclasses, the best place to put them is on the main screen under Additional Specific Spells.
Otherwise, you’d want just the regular Spells.
Additional Spell List only adds it to their spell list, so that it becomes an available choice whenever they learn a spell.
Yeah, if you’re just following the same rules as something like Swarmkeeper, then Additional Specific Spells is the easiest solution.
Thx
Does anybody know how to add a 2+ to hit on a cantrip with a item ??? adding bonus spell attack and ranged spell attak seems to not work on the cantrip but on the spells with lvls to it
on dnd beyond
in the homebrew mod things it does not work if i add anything to it
I don't think there's a way to do that. The only thing I can think of is to create a feat that describes the effect and then manually remember to add +2 to any cantrip spell attacks.
I suppose you could make a homebrew copy of the spell itself with the additional damage included.
:/ ye its realy weird when it adds to spells 1st to the end but not on cantrips
ye makin copy maby
Question: Say the subclass gains a swimming speed equal to walking speed, which feature category would that fall under? Modifiers?
Yeah, you’d need a Modifier.
Type: Set
Subtype: Speed (Swimming)
If you leave the Fixed Value blank, it will match your walking speed instead.
Does anyone know why there is no option for custom damage dice/where I would go to find it when making a homebrew item if there is one?
All weapons are tied to a base weapon type. This can not be changed currently. So if you want your dagger to do 1d12 damage, you're going to need to use a great axe as the base weapon, then rename it and add your other adjustments.
Is there a way to make a shield add +3 AC instead of +2? Non magical homebrew item tower sheild
Is there a way to go beyond 20th level?
D&D Beyond follows the rules as close as technically possible, and the rules for fifth edition do not allow you to go beyond 20th level.
How homebrew able is your character in DDB ?
One can use hombrewed races, subclasses, feats, magic items, and spells.
But can you customise a class ability or give yourself both an asi and feat at level 4 for for example
DnDBeyond follows as closely as it can the official 5e rules. And as you can't homebrew full classes (just subclasses) no you can not customize leveling up like that - at least currently.
You can add a feat at any time, regardless of your level progression.
Oh that's true. I was thinking of "gaining stuff when leveling up".
To add a feat (at any time) go to the features and traits tab on the sheet and scroll down to the Feats section and click the "Manage Feats" button.
Ah cool that was easier than I thought
is anyone aware of a notion integration for dndbeyond?
There are no official third party integrations for D&D Beyond other than avrae, the discord bot
so when i add the silver quill initiate feat it forces me to take silvery babrs
i removed it and it still shows it as a prepare option
ive reloaded refreshes and opend a hole new web broweser
is this just a forced pick?
That spell is coming from something called "Strixhaven Student". If it was coming from the feat, it would show the feat name there underneath the spell.
silverquill student
If you check Healing Word, you should see it labeled with "Strixhaven Initiate (Silverquill)".
its not appearing it thinks i have silvery barbs chosen
That's not coming from the feat. It's coming from something else.
Something called Silverquill Student.
Which is a background: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sacoc/character-options#SilverquillStudent
But that shouldn't be adding the spell by default either, right?
yeah my background do i not need to prepare the spell healing word to use it?
Can you share a link to that character?
ik i get a free casting but im a prepared caster and you can use spell slots to cast it correct?
When I pull it up, the only spell it shows me is Healing Word. 🤔
i chose maguic initiate on a deleted character
but when i go to prepare all i see is silvery barbs
Hold up, let's go back to the beginning
What is happening that you don't think should be happening?
Because you've chosen a background (that adds to your spell list) that also grants a feat (that gives you spells)
So there may be some confusion
i thought you had to choose a spell to prepare/know it i didnt know it gave you other spells 2
I was mistakenly under the impression that this spell was showing up in the spells tab on the character sheet itself.
In hindsight, the image you showed is correct.
Because you have the Strixhaven Studen background, you are indeed able to prepare Silvery Barbs.
so im suppose to be able to prepare silvery barbs and distonate whispers?
Yes
Hence why it shows in the spell list for you to prepare.
In addition, if you have the Spellcasting or Pact Magic feature, the spells on the Silverquill Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sacoc/character-options#FeatureSilverquillInitiate
okay i was getting confused cause i always chose silvery babrbs to prepare it on a character with the background i didnt know it added it to you character sheet
Silverquil Student (the background) gives you the feature Silverquil Spells, which gives you more spells that you can prepare beyond your normal spell list
To clarify, it hasn't been added to your character. It's been added to your spell list.
You can choose to prepare it as one of your paladin spells, or you can choose it through the Strixhaven Initiate feat.
oh okay
That background also gives you the Strixhaven Initiate (Silverquil) Feat, which gives you two spells from a choice of three + one 1st level bard or cleric spell
But it won't be added to your character until you choose it either way.
Those aren't spells you can prepare, those are spells you always know
oh okay ty for clearing the confusion
if i own a book physically is there some way to use it on ddb
You can use the homebrew tools to recreate the things you need - just don’t publish it for the general public to access.
ahhhh ok perfect thanks
But otherwise there is no way to use physical products on DnDBeyond. Wizards of the Coast does sell hybrid physical/digital bundles through their web store.
i have a player who bought tcoe to use artificer but didndt realice he couldnt use ddb for it
ill just help him homebrew it tho thanks
You can also just purchase single things like classes and spells a la carte through the DnDBeyond store without buying the whole book
Like if you bought an artificer subclass from Tashas on DnDBeyond that way it unlocks the whole artificer class.
ooh i might look into that too
Whatever you buy that way gets discounted from the book if you chose to buy the whole book later - it’s pretty cool.
How do you set the base AC of a homebrew subclass as 13 + dex
Add a Modifier
Type: Set
Subtype: Armor Class
Fixed Value: 3
(It includes the base 10+dex by default.)
thanks
have the july rewards been released yet?
Anyone else having the issue of Wish not being on the Genie Warlocks options for 9th level mystic arcanum?
WARLOCK
THE GENIE - Mystic Arcanum. Wish is not available for the Mystic Arcanum feature.
Didn't know that existed thanks. I'm just glad to know I'm not crazy or something lol
@gilded frost You want #character-discussion
Gotcha
This channel is for getting help with the D&D Beyond site, tools and services
I'll move it there
Ive done this and it hasnt applied to a character I make weirdly
Is it something you edited in just now?
Homebrew edits can sometimes take up to 15 minutes to appear on the character sheet.
I did it yesterday and it didnt come through and I tried it again today and it still hasnt
is it because the feature I put it on also has another modifier it provides
Shouldn’t be. Can you share a link to your character?
yeah sure
Hmm…
I’d suggest making a homebrew copy of Draconic Soul sorcerer. Then you can peek inside and see exactly how theirs was set up.
Why is it when I make a warlock in dnd beyond I don’t see the patrons spells in my spell list?
Do you mean you dont see your patron, pr you dont see class specific spells
Class specific spells
Does anyone know?
what patron, and which spells are you not seeing?
Fathomless patron, and the entire spell list you get with it
Warlocks only expand the spell list. They don't grant you them
You still have to pick them
From the list of spells
If you don't see them in your spellbook, it's because you haven't taken them from the manage spells part
Turns out it works when I do unarmored defense but not the other
Well, as long as it’s working. 😅
Theres no way to insert a text box into the charachter creation stage for a homebrew subclass is there? I have an Arcane Gunslinger class im makeing and a part of getting your guns is asigning them a unique name that can never be channged which gets engraved on the gun. Essentially giving it a soul and binding it to you.
No, that's not possible in D&D Beyond
You can customise items from the character sheet though
Click any weapon (in this case) and select the customise option; from there you can change the name
Does anybody know how to add a hombrew spell on the clerics death domain Reaper thing i does not show up
What exactly does background bundle contain?
it contains the backgrounds listed in the bundle
All the backgrounds for whatever book you’re looking at. They should be listed immediately below the bundle.
You’d need to make a homebrew copy of that subclass and add it there.
And I think someone unintentionally tricked me, because I asked for races, not backgrounds... And now purchased backgrounds..and they told me it was a 3$ something bundle, and I bought that not knowing it was a character bundle..
“Background” in D&D has a very specific meaning.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/personality-and-background#Backgrounds
If you purchased the wrong option, you can contact customer support to see if they can arrange a refund
I very much doubt that since it does say on their website itself that they don't do refunds
As a moderator, I am recommending that it's worth trying
And I'm not going through the headache of doing support after being on support for 7 days for a warranty to my computer
Okay, then there's nothing we can do
see ive got a druid subclass im programing in dndb, ive got 2 granted features at 2nd levels. one granted at 6th. one granted at 10th and one granted at 14th but i get this error
"this homebrew subclass does not have the nescesary class features with the correct required levels"
but those are the levels which druids get things
not sure if this or the home brew channel is the right one but is mostly im trying to get this published so a friend can use it.
If that friend is in a campaign with you, they can use it already.
You don't need to publish it to use it in your own campaigns as-is, and you can safely ignore any errors it shows.
But if you really did want to publish it to the global community instead... ||you'll also need a feature at level 3 to match Circle of the Land. (The level requirements are based on whichever subclass is included in the Basic Rules.)||
i didnt make it in reference to circle of the land.
i made it as a stand alone druid subclass, but this friend is trying to use it in servers outside ones im using so.... kinda need it in the global?
- You don't need to be making a circle of land druid for the level 3 retirement to need to be met. It's a hard coded restriction that all druid subclasses need a level 3 feature (that can be a blank and hidden feature). It exists because of circle of the land
- The D&D Beyond homebrew system doesn't connect to servers, you can make a campaign just for sharing homebrew and your friend can join that and access your subclass. There is zero need to publish homebrew for just one person and we in fact advise against that.
But again: if your only goal is to let your friend use it, you can forget all that.
If the two of you are in a campaign together and they've enabled Homebrew Content for that character, your subclass should already be available.
Unless your stated goal is to make it available to the global community, and you've already completed and playtested your subclass, then you don't need to (and shouldn't) publish it.
in order for a home brew to be used in most westmarch servers they need to be verified for approval so it would have to be published and visible to whomever runs those servers. but thanks for the tip of the hidden class feature.
How do I generate links to specific headers in class descriptions, like this: https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/fighter#Maneuvers-214
For the class features, you can copy the link from the class table.
For anything else, it’s doable from a computer but complicated. 😅
I must have done the complicated method in the past, because I also have a link the the list of infusions, but if you click the link in the class table, it takes you to the description of infusions, which is a different section than the list of them.
I just can’t remember how
Oh and also this link to maneuvers above, because maneuvers are a subclass feature, so they wouldn’t be on the table
The hard way would be to get the ID for that header, which I typically do on my laptop using my browser’s developer tools.
Anyone having issues with dndbeyond not loading its pages fully today?
I'm not currently experiencing any issues with it. I suggest trying to clear your browser cache and seeing if that clears it up.
Is there a way to override ability scores? I’m starting off with an extra feat and that extra feat should increase my wisdom to 20, but I can’t really figure out how to give myself that bonus feat
if it's an official feat, you can add it under features and traits, and manage feats
if not, you should be able to click the ability in question and theres an option to override it in the sidebar that comes up
If it’s a homebrew feat, you can also add it under Manage Feats.
…after you add the feat itself.
Is there any way to make a feat similar to martial adept with its superior combat?
I tried making a copy to see how it works but was met with literally nothing
Hey random question but do tempest clerics get immunity or resistance to lightning and thunder? I've never used a cleric or even a tempest cleric for that matter oh also do you gain any buffs or abilities/spells from different gods or is it all the same because I'm looking into going with Zeus as the god I follow for the tempest cleric but all I see gain is lighting bolt and one other thing, sorry it's so long I'm just a little confused and would love some help (also idk if this is the right channel to ask so I'm sorry if it isn't)
That one sounds like a #dnd-rules question. (This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond.)
What do you mean by “superior combat”?
Sorry I meant the Battlemaster subclass where you got some manuvers moves you can select
Broadly speaking, if you want to give the player a choice between multiple things, you’d need to add each available choice as an Option.
Then inside each Option, set it up with whatever that one needs to work the way you want.
Right, but how would I limit them?
For example if I want to add 5 moves but they can only pick 2
Once you’ve added at least one Option, you’ll see a field in Basic Information called “Total Number of Feat Options User Can Select”.
Would it br better to lewrn the rules while I play
That sounds like a question #dnd-newcomers can help with.
Ok
(This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond.)
Out of curiosity, what is D&D Beyond's plan for post 2024 PHB update? Will you support the 2014 version as well, or do a full cut over?
Nothing has been announced
Where and how do we get coupon codes?
D&D Beyond doesn't do discount codes at this time, instead applying discounts automatically at sale
i tried to buy two books but this happened
Hello,
How can I create an attack for a subclass on dnd Beyond? Cause I'm currently trying to create a subclass and it shall have an attack that starts at level 5 and the amount of dices rises by a specific amount every few level.
"Processor" here refers to your bank, who declined the transaction. They're probably the best ones to speak to.
i'm hoping they support 5e as well as 5.5e
oh oki just making sure
There is no 5.5e. Next years PHB is 5e.
sorry editions are confusing lol
i guess lol
well i hope they support the old 5e player's handbook as well as the new 5e player's handbook
if that makes sense lol
Inside your class feature is a section called Actions. You can add it there, specify the details for the base level, and click "Display as Attack".
Then when you save it and edit it again, you'll see an option for Level Overrides. You can use that to specify the levels at which the values change.
You mean this?
That's the right area, yeah, but it's just the very beginning of it.
Just pick whichever of those you think is most applicable.
Ah nvm I have it thx a lot
Now I think I can continue creating my first try of a race too
I mean it's summoning a lance that you can shoot at others and that levitates next to you
Generally speaking, any time you want to add something to the Actions tab (attack or otherwise), that's an Action.
I just leave that empty if it just depends on a to hit Roll right?
Yep. None of the fields there are required, so just add what you need.
Oh, and on level 5 you can use third level spells, right? Or was it level 4?
Depends on the class. Checking their class table would be the quickest way to find out.
Then I'm gonna make saving throw I guess
An explosion like a fireball would be a sphere right?
The spell Fireball is indeed a sphere, if that's what you meant.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/spells/fireball
Yeah, thx
If I want to let the DMG rise every level do I have to type everything In for each level?
Yep
why doesn't taking the superior technique fighting style let me pick the battle master maneuver I learn from it?
In the rollable tables for interplanar nomad, see the repeat in flaws. What should the duplicate be? Surely not actually be a duplicate.
There is no official background called Interplanar Nomad.
That must be a homebrew one, so you’d have to ask whoever created it.
When can wild madic spells cast 2 or 3 at the sane time
If that's a rules question, I'd recommend #dnd-rules
Question, when creating a Cleric in the domain selection why can't you choose the other domains found in the PHB? only the life domain is coming up
hello,
this morning I seem to have lost my backstory on dndbeyond for my character. My character seems to have reverted to a previous version of my backstory (which is 3 lines long, much less than the 2 pages I wrote last wednesday). My DM read the backstory as well so my backstory has been saved before.
Is there a way to get my long backstory back? I really hope there is a solution that isn't me trying to rewrite my backstory once more, since I put a lot of love and effort into it
Only the Life domain is free.
There is no way to restore it. The most common causes are browser extensions or having it open in multiple places, such as two tabs, browsers, or devices.
how to get the discord to display the flair i want im sure i said i wanted the dragonlance flair but for me its still showing the pride flair
You need to remove the pride flair; you can only display one flair at a time and if you have multiple roles with flairs attached, the one higher up the list displays
ok i manged to get it to change thanks
Anyone who had the Pride or Dragonlance flairs beforehand needs to select those first, and then change to their new one.
I assume AC Max Dex Modifier is used for medium and heavy armor to limit how much of your dex modifier is added.
And Shield AC on Dex Saves is likely for the Shield Master feat.
If you're trying to add an AC calculation, you might need Type: Set, Subtype: Armor Class.
It includes 10+DEX by default, so you'd just add whatever else it needs.
Ah, found it, thx
Hi, I'm trying to log into DnDB with my ipad, but it says that I must allow tracking and then I get taken to settings, but it doesn't tell me what setting to change...
I don't use iOS, but if you provide a list of settings I can try to guess.
Are you trying to log in through the app, or through a web browser? And if the latter, which one?
Is it possible to synchronize my D&D character on the website https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters with my character on the Android app D&D Beyond? If So, how does that work? Do I have to some specific coupling procedure? Thanks for helping me!
You just have to be logged in with the same account I think
My characters synchronized automatically when I logged in
Thanks! Maybe I created two different accounts without realizing that...Ik will look into it.
Any assistance as to why my rolls show up with the ro<1
I don’t know what that is, but it’s not D&D Beyond (which is what this channel is for).
So I couldn’t tell ya. 😅
What do I have to choose if I want it to be as big as a human?
medium
Thx
And how big would be a fox?
Cats are tiny, so that would be my guess
Ok, thx
i seem to be unable to enable content sharing on a dnd beyond campaign i just created even thou i have the right subscription. Has something changed recently and its in a different place then before?
Why can't I submit it? What is meant there are class features missing?
- Do you have a Master Tier subscription
- Do you have content sharing slots available (you can only share in up to 5 campaigns)
ooohhhh
Sorcerers require subclass features at levels 6, 14, 18, and 20
I can't homebrew a main class in dnd beyond right?
No
And for a cleric?
You can look up this info yourself: https://www.dndbeyond.com/classes/cleric
If I share homebrew content with the campaign, can the others use my created subclasses too, even if they aren't public?
Correct
Ok, then the problem is solved and I don't need to look at the right levels
I just want that my party is able to use the classes
Shouldn't this be right?
No, sorcerers need 1, 6, 14, 18.
https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/23242-creating-subclasses-guide
But again, if this is just being used in your campaign, you can ignore those warnings entirely.
Your homebrew is shared with your campaigns automatically and can already be used as-is.
The warnings only apply if you’re publishing it to the global community (after your subclass is finished and playtested and working as intended).
Is there any free dice rn?
It is my roll from dnd beyond posting on roll20! I am thinking I clicked something on the dnd beyond sheet that is causing it to roll that way and I don’t know what it could be! You were very helpful tho!
There is no official integration between D&D Beyond and Roll20.
If you’re using something unofficial, you may need to check with whoever created it.
The subscriber bonus this month is the Bigby’s Dice Set, if that’s what you’re asking about.
Thanks
Can anyone help me make a homebrew character? I am so new and i don't understand anything
Also i am sorry if this is the wrong chat to ask
hey all ! I've noticed that whenever I export a character sheet from DDB into pdf, none of the Equipped Weapons show up...
I've tried logging in and out, clearing the cache... no can do.
Any ideas ?
thanks
on ddb how can i create a homebrew greatsword that uses a higher hit die than the standard d6
I’d suggest creating it as a custom action directly on the character sheet instead.
Just head to the Actions tab and hit “Manage Custom” in the top right corner.
just double checking, when i create a homebrew race, it wont let me choose other races to be a dropdown right?
Cause i heard that and it has been happeneing
Is there an option to make a magic item that gives a Warlock PC an extra Eldritch Invocation or an extra spell slot?
is there a way to make a character in a campaign private?
one of the players has a huge secret (he's a drakewarden and is hiding a baby drake from them) and putting his sheet into the campaign will reveal it
I have the Find Familiar spell for one of my characters, but I wanted to ask how I could actually add the familiar to her sheet.
Not sure, if you can't find a fitting slot on your sheet, I'd suggest writing it on a spare paper
There's an extras section on the character sheet where you can add vehicles, mounts, sidekicks, and even familiars
There's no option to add anything on that page, it just says "Your creatures will appear here"
Are you on the app?
Yep
You'll need to go to the web page then, the app doesn't currently support adding/removing extras
Oh, alright then
How do you create custom monsters and custom encounters?
Custom monsters are made through the homebrew system: https://www.dndbeyond.com/homebrew/creations/create-monster
Custom encounters are made through the encounter tool: https://www.dndbeyond.com/encounter-builder
I'm new here, do you mind if I ask you how I can join a party as a player?
The DM will need to give you a campaign invite link
When you go to that link, you will be given two options
- Select one of your existing characters to join the campaign with (provided they aren't already in a campaign)
- Make a brand new character directly in that campaign (provided you have a free character slot)
(Just in case: this channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond, so the answer above is specific to D&D Beyond. If you meant that as a more general question, #find-a-game can get you started.)
How artificer role
That's also not a D&D Beyond question, but you can choose yours in id:customize (under Channel & Roles at the top of the channel list).
Is there any way to view the source "book" for compendium content that's Critical Role homebrew?
The homebrew CR content doesn't have an associated book in DDB
So the only way to find it all would be to happen into it while using the normal search tools?
It seems odd that there is content in the compendium that can list something as a source but not have that actually be a source that exists in the “View All Sources” page
View all sources lists all official sources. It doesn't list "functional sources", ones that exist just to facilitate how the database works.
I’m making a character and I wanted to ask where all the feats are
The only free feat in the basic rules is the Grappler feat. To use the other feats you must purchase the Player's Handbook or individual feats from the D&D Beyond marketplace.
Awww even if I have the irl handbook I have to buy it on dnd beyond to use them?
Unless you purchased the physical/digital bundle, that is correct.
https://dndstore.wizards.com/us/product/811469/player-s-handbook-digital-plus-physical-bundle
You could also use the homebrew tools to recreate the feats from your book.
(For private use only, though; please don’t publish it.)
Hey everyone, so I purchased a physical and digital bundle of Tashas Cauldron and I can't get to my digital version on DnD Beyond. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Let’s keep things on topic, please. This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond.
You should have received an email with a redemption code and instructions.
I never got that and I bought it 3 days ago
How will I get my D&D Beyond digital book?
Once you purchase a bundle, a code will be sent to the email address you provide at checkout. This code can be redeemed at https://www.dndbeyond.com/marketplace/redeem-key on the date the product is available on D&D Beyond.
https://dnd-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/8493187821588#h_01GAM8JQJHMKEEMRHY6E29AYKT
Thank you!
There’s also a question here on what to do if the email did not arrive:
https://dnd-support.wizards.com/hc/en-us/articles/8493187821588#h_01GAM8QN3CXVZMM9639B9FX56E
This channel is for getting help with D&D Beyond, but #find-a-game can get you started with that.
ight sorry and thanks
There’s also #dnd-newcomers if you have any questions about the game itself.
That's a question for #dnd-newcomers, this channel is for getting support with D&D Beyond
That's not a D&D Beyond question, it's a D&D question
(and you don't need a picture to ask "what's the difference between cantrips and 1st level spells)
D&D Beyond is a digital toolset for playing D&D.
I've applied repulsion shield infusion to a shield, how long till the bonus will apply to AC?
Did you attune to it?
Thanks, forgot
Is there any way to use the optional spell points variant in a character sheet ?
