And this would have been almost ten years ago.
Oh dear lord
He doesn’t know yet
Can't get more specific than that, against server rules.
Alright he wants to go Conquest/Assassin Rogueadin
Never heard of a rogueadin but sounds awesome
Sorry for not responding early what do you need help with exactly?
Just some stories.
You don't have to😅
Hey yall! Im a new and self taught DM who is DMing for a party of three (a barbarian, a rogue, and a wizard) and I am ashamed K need to ask this but how do I get them to stop fighting or trying to rizz up EVERY SINGLE NPC old man? Can I rizz him, young lady, they're literally frothing at the mouth. They've completely disregarded the story to try and get into the queen's pants and then when one of them inevitably does the other two will try to kill the queen in retaliation!
I prepare by performing voodoo ritual in hopes that my character does not accidentally die the first session, after that it's just improv and prayers
25 (3 months ago I got involved. My birthday is in May)
And yes all of their alignments are evil, so they're all synonymously horrible people
#dm-discussion might get you more answers!
Alr
I was trying improv to but it's get not very good
You mean the lore of the campaign I'm writing?
I rolled a 0 one time and had to improvise quickly
Stories about your games, what happened in the game
One time i got -1, that was funny
He changed his mind to playing maximum T A N K
What’s the best Paladin subclass for T A N K?
Guys is it normal that 6 people in a row somhow managed to roll Nat 1 while rescuing others from drowning so we all nearly died 🫠?
Yeah
Sounds like a regular Tuesday afternoon
😂 I mean it was one of the best moments I had
Bro my lizard folk INT score is a 8 and I rolled a Nat 1 on an intelligence check to figure out how to open this container he came across while exploring a mage's home (we're robbing them). So I literally just said, "Naga starts biting the container like a chew toy."
Well my character is a noble drow whose family was killed in a slave uprising when she was a child. In her lowest moment her patron came to her and offered her love and support. Now in return she will do everything to set her master free.
I took 2d8 radiant damage 😭
Ooh, who's the patron?
LOL, I rolled for a religion check one time with an 8 INT, rolled a nat 1, it was a check to see if I recognize the noble family of my fellow party member, since we were both nobles (Their family symbol was a white circle)
had to make up the fact that my child sorcerer has been skipping his studies so he could practice magic
Playing as a lizardfolk in this campaign so far has been funny. He's forced to work with this party because they saved him from a death sentence (he has a bounty by a bunch of local monster hunters). He's been experience all of this new 'technology' society has, and it's been a blast so far.
You was a player? If not that char was a npc? How players deals with her
He saw a mysterious glowing red liquid in a glass bottle that smelled like strawberries and instantly drank it without hesitation because "it smelled good." Luckily it was a healing potion.
Cool, what class?
ranger
Very nice
Subclass?
Green Reaper!
Nnnever heard of it
Which I reflavored into "Red Reaper" since that's his 'nickname' by the hunters of the local population
What does Green Reaper do?
That is my current character as a player
It's from the Grim Hallows campaign, which is what this session is. Basically from what I can tell (only lvl 5 atm), it's a poison-based subclass.
Oh that’s sick
The idea is that you're poisoning your equipment and all and giving a bunch of debuffs if you successfully hit your stuff.
A three-eyed lich who thinks he is a god
Sounds super cool!
Poison is such a cool concepts, despite it being the worst damage type
Very sick concept
I know right? my poor warlock with a snake patron was struggling to put up poison numbers
Like I can poison my arrows, and when I hit I can expend one of my spellslots to do another 1d6 ontop of a normal 1d4 poison damage, and give an effect that hinders my target. For example, I can envenom my arrows to have 1d4 additional poison damage, then expend a spell slot to add another 1d6 to that, and give someone a Toxin Effect like "Uncoordinated". What this means is that they are given the Poisoned condition and cannot take reactions, disengage, or dodge until the end of my next turn.
It seems like a cool debuff-based subclass.
It's impossible to find a text rp guys
There's a server I'm in for a D&D campaign that meet weekly for a normal session. But, I worked with the DM and he created a channel where our characters can do canon text RPs inbetween sessions.
I even showed everyone how to set up a Tupperbot and all of that.
be the change you want in the world, start one in your group
I can't DM man
Are you in a campaign?
1 but it's kinda... Eh
If you had the ability to have 2 lv 20 classes what classes would you combo
Depends on what I am trying to accomplish
But a super easy pick is to find someone to be a Sorcerer
Then pick Rogue and Paladin
anyone know of any good resources on the Cartography and Lore of the cities of the Sword Coast?
namely Waterdeep, Elturel, and Neverwinter
I'm planning on running and rewriting bits of BA:DA, and was wanting to read some information on the other cities
Combine that with a Divination Wizard
Assassin Rogue too
20d6, 10d8 Radiant
Plus if Divination Wizard decides to help with the con save, that's double damage dealt
So I guess to answer the question
2 characters. One a Paladin and Assassin Rogue, the other a Divination Wizard at least
We would be very lucky that exploding dice and chunky crits are onky homebrew
its still crazy to me that dnd has yet to make any more classes
Artificer definitely exists. And they very recently had a UA for a new class
And thats just recent stuff for 5e. DnD has made... many classes over the decades
i meant for 5e in 8 years we only got 1 new class
Not that weird of a thing
like in 2e we got the bard they kinda removed and readded monk and rouge back at some point
in 3e they added warlock and supplements for warmage duskblade faovered soul and stuff
I just hope they make better defensive and control focused options
5e moved away from locked ASIs on species a while back
Not really anymore. Now you get them from your background.
long gone are the days of having a +6 asi as a human
Am i ... old ?
By the way, there was one combination that does realistically make sense in DnD. That being PAM and Sentinel
or havingn a +4 as a dwarf
The more you think about it, the more it makes sense that pawns in chess attack diagonally
There are so limited options in background
also 3e to 3.5e including all source books had over 50 base classes
Just ask if the DM will let you use a custom background and assign your own ability about increase.
dnd 4e god bless its heart had around 77 new classes n such despite it not being around all that long
Wizards seems to be letting third party companies do all this work now. But I'm really okay with the number of official classes being limited.
We can balance around the official ones and then allow the third party ones on a case by case basis.
New subclasses do a significant amount of diversification, too.
now even 8 years later we only had 1 new class
And I'm really okay with that.
https://media.dndbeyond.com/mega-menu/party-wizard.gif i found a secret
im not abig fan of illrigger its elementals are too not dnd to be played as such
on dnd beyond website
Sure, and because it's third party there's no pressure at all for any DM to include it.
so saying "wizards is letting 3rd party doing the work" is
Letting the fanbase have it's fun without having to be responsible for the balancing.
just bored of seeing the same thing over and over is all
There's plenty of third party material to explore and ask your DM to include or to include yourself if you DM.
Me, I'm more than happy to use the official classes and reflavor.
id rather see new official thing added then having to ask my dm if "this this and this" is allowed
Like, I reflavored barbarian as a martial artist and it worked great. I have an idea for a psionic reflavor of barbarian as well.
Ahh. I wouldn't like the bloat, personally.
1-2 more classes couldnt hurt
I'm cool if they take their time doing that.
Anyone notice the dnd publishing schedule is horribly slow and we still don’t have a clue what is coming out this year, if anything, from Wizards?
Very frustrating
The publishing schedule has been this way since the start of 5e
I will say, iirc, they typically would’ve done a DnD Live event by now. They could be waiting until closer to the end of Q1 tho
does dnd even had a road map like other games or do they just kinda randomly throw out new 5e content
that's the sport, you don't even get to wait you just hear of something that happened and find out later whether that happened or not
i see
Sorlock
yea no a couple of months ago they dropped a new Last Ebberon and they probably telegraphed it but i never heard even a word until "2024 warforged" like a week after it came out
peak
Forge of the artificer was announced and talked about plenty. It just got pushed back due to printing issues
Yea not having a road map for at least the first half of the year is a bit strange, but the publishing schedule of 5e has stayed remarkably consistent throughout its lifespan.
It has never been "20+ books per year" like some previous editions
Id still like a road map to show us what we might get this year instead of just guessing
Again, they typically do. But it’s still relatively early in the year, and this is the first year that started with a new management team
I feel like they are gonna sell
4.5 books per year is typical for 5e. Older editions were double or triple that much.
There's been a huge changing of the guars with Perkins and craford leaving and new designers and writers coming on board. I don't want rushed books so they can cook for as long as they need with the new folks before they publish more
I’d even be happy with two or three great books in one year over four or five mediocre ones
Id still like to see one out standing book for 2024
Agreed. Just gotta give it more time
One that reaches the likes of mines of phandelver or curse of Strhad
CoS is so very overhyped. Its not bad but its not really great. I think a lot of people just have early 5e nostalgia for it (or perhaps more accurately in some cases: nostalgia for whatever changes their DMs made for it)
It’s a fun adventure imo, but the book itself is poorly designed
Agreed
I had a lot more fun playing it than running it
Part of the issue is that sentiment can be applied to. A lot of modules
Just got done with an encounter in Cos where SPOILER
||24 tree guys spawned and killing all of them took up initiative||
As a book (and by extension, an adventure) its just. Not really good. This is not mutually exclusive with people having had fun with it, but not something I would call "outstanding"
Im leaving it as vague as possible but still a spoiler
Yeah I feel like in more recent years they’ve written much better designed modules
I’m surprised more people don’t talk about keys to the golden vault
The issue being that a lot of people seem to complain about how “railroad-y” them feel
All of the proper modules from the past 5 years are so dramatically better than the modules from the first 5 years of 5e. Its somewhat absurd.
Or icewind Dale
It got a lot of hype when the book came out, but I think heists are such a niche theme that it wasn’t really for everyone
Thats an issue with people refusing to accept the concept of buy-in unfortunately
Heists are cool on paper but actually doing them is the issue entire Rick and Morty episode on this lmao
I’ve heard a lot of good things from tomb as well but only issue is that it’s “meat Grindery”
I haven’t played it myself, but from what I’ve heard from friends who have played it is that the big dungeon itself is fun, it’s all the exploration and hexcrawling in the first part of the campaign getting to the dungeon that’s kind of a slog
Especially since 5E doesn’t really have the best/most extensive rules for the exploration pillar
I think it could be done, but it would need quite a bit of additional rules-stuff to make it tie into what 5e pcs are capable of.
Not really. 5E has always been an advocate for the combat, social, and exploration pillars. Combat is just the one that has the most rules because it’s what needs more support.
That said, exploration definitely needs more support imo and just… hasn’t had a lot.
Or rather they have more, but it took them 10 years and multiple books spread across those 10 years to give us just enough.
Out of the main D&D modules, what would yall say are top 7
I think 7 are more modules than I've played
unless you include the one shot anthologies
Agreed
I have a soft spot for Rime of the Frostmaiden, so that would definitely be in the top 3.
LMoP is there somewhere
I hated RotF myself, but I think that’s mostly because a lot of it felt like a slog and my players didn’t really buy into the survival aspect of it like they said they wanted to
Aw, sorry to hear that
I am including everything
Then I need a definition of "module". Is every adventure inside of the anthology books it's own module?
No, each book counts as a module
I want more cr 21-30 creatures dnd let me see what horrors you can truly make
I always thought
I wanna see the updated Tiamat!!
I mean the latest Tiamat in Fizban’s still holds up. I personally don’t feel like she needs an update yet
I can't give a specific order but. I can give a list of 7 generically on top for me. I am also going to cheat slightly and actually only give 6 because my first one is also technically 3 adventures in one.
- DoIP Sequel Trilogy (which is effectively one actual adventure), DoIP is not included.
- Radiant Citadel
- Call of the Netherdeep
- Wild Beyond the Witchlight
- Rime of the Frostmaiden
- Keys from the Golden Vault
Yeah but it lost its limited magic immunity regen and other things like her being a fiend
OotA #1, CoS #2 (unfinished campaign), Icewind Dale #3, Waterdeep Dragon heist #4, Eve of Ruin #5, Storm King's Thunder #6, LMoP #7.
thinking about running rime soon
Sounds chill
it really didn't "lose" anything - its just a completely different form for her
Icewind Dale is so good, you should Ti
Exactly so why can’t we have a 2024 version
Who says gods need a single form for stats as well
hi 👋 how do i start?
I can vibe with that. My order would be something like
- Lost Mines of Phandelver
- Rime of the Frostmaiden
- Heroes of the Borderlands
- Golden Vault
- Curse of Strahd
- Candlekeep Mysteries
- Dungeon of the Mad Mage
the DoIP sequel trilogy I think is one of the most underrated module sets (from the essentials kit). It has a great level of structure while leaving nice room for customization and it helps to guide that customization a decent amount too. Something of a precursor to when 5e modules started becoming better
Ooh, I've been wanting to play a Candlekeep game for some time now, never have though
In a lot of ways the sequel trilogy is basically heroes of the borderlands just years early
Yeah Lost Mines is easily the best adventure for me as well
Because it... still works in 2024?
icespire lives rent free in my heart
Yeah it’s still a 5e stat block so it still works
Bottom is Princes of the Apocalypse and Tyranny of Dragons
Yep. No need to “fix” what ain’t broke
I'll be honest, I have never been able to understand people's like of Lost Mines. It's, to me, mid at best. Not as much of a mess as ToD or (even worse) PotA. But also not really good imo
Amusingly I’m running both at the same time
So, LMoP is generally considered awesome... What about Phandelver and Below? Isn't the first half basically the original module?
Phandelvar is simple and to the point that just works very well.
Yup, with some slight tweaks
Currently in a PotA campaign rn, its such a drag, and main thing that is helping is our shenanigans
PotA is probably the most disappointing 5e module for me. Because its top level concepts are fun. But it has near 0 delivered plot. And essentially no connective tissue between its set pieces.
It's pretty alright. I found it eminently runnable, but the whole mindflayer shtick really gets tiring after a while.
I was playing both at the same time at one point, it sucked, and ToD DM was wanting to be paid for it
PoTA is temple of elemental evil right?
princes of the apocalypse aye
Explain further on the plot and connectiveness, I don't think I am understanding
That’s my biggest complaint with it, I feel like I’ve been a little too “out-mind flayered” these past few years, especially with how prominent they’ve been in BG3.
Thats another thing I really don't get (I do to some degree but*). People saying that mindflayers were "overdone" when PaB came out. That was really the first 5e adventure where they were actually the focus.
haha yeah, all the players and myself having put hundreds of hours into bg3 definitely didn't help
*I get it to a degree because of BG3 but within 5e its just. Simply not true
I mean PoTA is essentially a revamp of temple of elemental evil I heard
Its the lack of a plot
It’s not a problem with the module itself, it’s a problem with how much WOTC throws in their iconic trademark monster in their adventure modules. Even if it’s a minor appearance and not the major focus.
It definitely has some cool monsters, but they were getting recycled a bit much.
Well A) that just. Makes sense to do. But also B) Mind Flayers really did not feature much at all in 5e modules
tbh I’d just play temple of elemental evil
Whether it makes sense to do or not doesn’t mean I haven’t had my fair share of mind flayers
There is like. One in one adventure, an area in another (but thats a megadungeon and features 8 billion other things as well), and then another minor sidezone in another
Hmmm, so if my group has people that haven't played LMoP, would just running PaB be a good alternative?
sure, but thats still different than the common claim of "they have just been in everything", because thats just blatantly untrue
Like I said, even if they’re not the main focus on a campaign module, they still feel like they get shoehorned at least in a small way in a lot of the adventure modules
Hmm any good languages to pick for hexbloods? I need 3 and i want em to fit the character
Pig Latin, always Pig Latin
It’s so much fun to imagine fighting a monster so much bigger then myself in dnd
Even if they aren't my group definitely got tired of all the mind blasts in Obelisk
But I agree that they tend to pop up. Not as often as beholderkin, but I like the latter more anyway.
i hated how much int saves there were. my poor peace clearic almost broke
Same with my druid haha
took resilient INT just for that campaign
"int and strength are dump stats"
i didnt dump it though, i had average int
It's one of the few campaigns I really don't care to run again.
what module
We're talking about Shattered Obelisk
phandelver and below yeah
I’d like to at least play through it once, but it’s not my highest priority one
Turn of Fortune’s Wheel and Radiant Citadel are probably higher on my list than Shattered Obelisk
Is Radiant Citadel good?
It's really fun!
i really havent heard anything good or bad from it
oh god, reminds me, should i run rime or turn of fortune's wheel 😭
i never hear much specific talk on the anthologies. I guess it's harder to judge those
I've played in I think two one shots Ti ran using it.
turn of fortune's wheel but players spend all the time gambling
Gambling???!!! >:D
I like a lot of things about it, from the cultural inspiration to the way they do NPCs using PBIF rather than Alignment.
hermes, no
It looks really good on paper, but I’ve never played any of the adventures myself. The Radiant Citadel itself is really interesting to me tho
i ran the filipino and chinese one
Thank you now I've imagined a DnD party playing "Who wants to be a millionaire"
What is Radiant citadel if yall dont mind me asking
enjoyed both
radiant citadel in particular got a lot of... particular hate
lemme guess, people who thought it was too woke
Oh hey Philippines mentioned, nice
ofc!
Cuz I'm playing Icewind Dale with a homebrew class and subclass being Merchant (subclass: Gambler)
People who use woke as an insult can't be my homie
Octopath fan?
Octopath? Taron Pounds
there's different versions?
Yes, the prices are quite good
huh? theres just different adventures in it that are based off culturs
Yep. There was even a vocal group in this server who said it was “problematic” that WOTC would write an anthology that focuses on POC cultural representation and POC writers.
Shattered O is great I can't wait to run that again
Radiant Citadel is an anthology of adventures, each written by a different author, with a central hub setting in the Ethereal Plane.
ohhh so thats what u meant
Radiant citadel has ok plots but needed more dungeons
I've never heard of that, what's it about?
What's one class concept yall would really like to see D&D have? (Not including UAs)
Phandelver and below the Shattered oblisix.
It's a good campaign that takes the old starter kit and makes it a full campaign
Fighter but with devil may cry moves, lore accurate air juggling and combos and taunts that mechanically does something
from my experience with anthology books, usually the dungeons are the easiest to be fun
Cosmic horror, mind flayers and a whole bunch
Probably an actual summoner, not those little "one at a time creature, and you have to have concentration on it", actual summoner
I feel like most fantasy concepts have already been done in D&D tbh
maybe because theyre the most structured and combat focused
That sounds amazing
Agreed
Non-caster Social or maybe Int based Controller/Support
DMC-style Stylish Combatant fighter subclass
Also remove the God who wiped out gunpowder for some reason (i like my guns ty)
It helps that they’re designed to be straightforward for the purpose of being run as one-shots. If you want a one-shot that can actually be played through in a single session, it has to be very straightforward.
My rankings of the compilation books from best to worst is
Infinite staircase
Candlekeep
Dragon delves
Tales from the yawning portal
Ghosts of salt marsh
Vecna eve of ruin
Radiant citadel
Putting vecna on that list is a hot take in itself
I'd like the Witch from PF2e be ported over into 5e ngl
there's no such thing as eve of ruin
I get it. It's meant to be a campaign adventure but the way its set up it can feel like that
What's your problem wth Radiant Citadel?
A class that uses necromancy for healing, such as to kill off parasites or speed the healing of a wound by aging it.
I do really like this, and would advise you to look at Dancer Class by Taron Pounds for this concept
It's real and it's ok
lying is bad :c
that would be kinda mundane tho
Mundane like a Warlord? Sure, I'm cool with that.
I have one or two other examples but they're kinda gross
Why not both? An int based controller that isn't a spellcaster but has skill monkey features that allows them to be a social
Skill Monkey and social 2 different things
Why you gotta be like this
Make hard rules for skill checks and then we can talk about skill monkeys mattering
Oh no I get that they aren't literally the same thing, I was thinking that if an int class (which would have proficiencies in arcana, history, etc) also having some kind of bonus that makes them decent in rolling for persuasion, deception, etc
They'd be somewhat like a skill monkey in versatility
How do they defend/attack tho? Are they a martial or not?
Main thing you would have to compete with is Bard's overall usefulness in both social and control, but without spells
id assume they would have weapon and armor proficiency
Great question I have no idea, I was just thinking that an int controller and a non caster social can be combined into its own class without needing to be split into two separate ideas
This sounds like Fae wanderer subclass, but those are usually subclass features
It would definitely need something to make sure it can hold up in combat, even if primary role isn’t being a martial/caster
make them super strong at Tier 4
Eh, thats overall
Final boss fight in my home game last night has been done and dusted. Epiloge session and then we have another epic level 20 game wrapped
I wanna try to get into dnd but idk where to start
First would probably be reading the rules, and then making your first character sheet
It CAN feel a bit overwhelming at first, but you can watch Jocat's a crap guide to DnD - character sheets to help
keep in mind to not take his jokes too personally since it's just his style of content and beyond that it's actually really helpful
I mean I do have a character already
Do you know what ability modifers, saving throws, abilities, and spells are?
Kinda sorta…my friend was teaching me until we lost contact with each other.
It can't hurt to watch the video, but if you are sure you have a character ready you can either
A. Go to the LFG channels and find a party
Or
B. Learn more about the rules and what you want to play as
been wondering, are there any cures for vampirism other than wish?
Be bit by a human in the leg /j
Probably killing them and then using true resurrection or resurrection
reincarnate
would either of those work on a vampire normally?
since aren't they technically dead?
Maybe? But it might depend on the DM and their ruling
With Nystul's Magic Aura
no idea what that is
Anything can be a Humanoid that way
Spell. Basically gets you treated as any creature type you want for the purpose of magic and spells
sounds strong, what level is it?
how long do your campaigns usually run for? and how often do you play?
Chat does he know?
clearly not
2nd
huh.
Yeah
I was thinking it would be like 5th or 6th
Probably wasn't a good idea ik . . . But hey, I can Awaken Zombies now!!!
It would be severely weaker if that were the case
It also lasts 24 hrs btw
oh wait speaking of 5th level spells, can swift quiver and haste stack?
Evening
Both are Concentration so no
not from the same user
just they're applied to the same person
curious to see how many arrows a ranger could fire in one turn
I mean, yeah? But it isn't very good unless yk how to cheese Incapacitated Condition lol.
Ah. Then yeah, it works.
also not quite related but I still wish that the arrow of many targets was a thing in base dnd as either an item or spell
thing was a lot of fun in bg3
unbalanced but fun
There's a spell that works identically
Well, after a certain point
Chromatic Orb bounces if you match damage dice. For every upcast you get more damage dice, so it eventually becomes impossible to not bounce the max amount of times
2014 war cleric. We have obtained a large sum of gold. Should I get a Devotee Censor or some kind of Enspelled weapon? I currently use a 1 handed weapon and shield.
I will absolutely be getting the Amulet of Devout but I was deciding on a good 1 handed magical weapon.
Would it be reasonable to level up the players next session to level 3, even though they leveled up last session and didn't this session
Or should I wait another sesh
Depends
What rarity do you think you could get out of the Enspelled? (That is, what level are you?)
Enspelled Weapons are pretty busted
What is the difference between demons and devils?
Devils are the corrupted Celestials who created the Nine Hells as a Vault to bottle up the Abyss. (It wasn't always all that evil)
Demons come from the Abyss. The Abyss was made by a mad God that was spiked with the power of Aberrant gods from the Far Realm and was told to corrupt the Astral Plane with it (and thus everything else). He didn't listen and stabbed it into the elemental Planes
Undead aren't all immune to frightened? Im playing a paladin in curse of strahd who just switched her oath to conquest which is entirely built on inflicting fear from channel divinity cause fear on any target withing 30 feet to aura of fear reducing speed on frightened creatures 10 feet away to 0 and has a reach weapon
Which one is the one that is evil and on fire and is where bad and evil people go to when they die
The entire main use of cleric channel divinity invokes the frightened condition on undead so them being immune would be an issue
I feel like I might be able to afford up to a rare, maybe a very rare if I sacrifice some other items I wanted.
And remember these are 2014 spells. So sadly, I cannot get a Divine Smite or anything as cool as that would be.
Both are evil, but one is Lawful (Nine Hells), other is pure Chaotic Evil (Abyss). Nine Hells is closer, but in general souls are said to go all over the place when they die.
Depends on alignment according to 2014 DMG, but you can have it be whatever you want
both of them. In D&D, when you die, your soul goes to an Outer Plane that matches ur alignment. If you were a particularly Chaotic Evil person, when you die you go to the Abyss and become a Demon. If you were a Lawful Evil person, when you die you'll go to the Nine Hells and become a Devil.
Also noticed I can stunlock, fearlock, enemies next level if I get polearm master. Cause I have Sentinel. So I could reduce enemies to 0 speed when they get close, then wrathful smite on my turn to inflict fear, their speed remains 0 cuz of aura of fear and I can go to town with my glaive
if its 2014 rules then are you even sure you can get an enspelled item?
missed reply oops
As in 2014 campaign, or character?
Or are you guys just emulating some 2024 stuff?
for the unaware the arrow of many targets can hit multiple enemies at once and has the funny effect of critting every enemy if you crit the first target
also it seems to ignore walls if an enemy is in the radius
total cover rules always apply unless stated otherwise
Character and campaign. I've been able to convince the DM to allow me to have a couple of 2024 things here and there (like we have 2024 healing word and cure wounds, and I have the 2024 war caster feat). But it's primarily 2014.
I believe enspelled was a thing before 2024.
considering how strong enspelled items are, you should try asking if those are even being allowed at all first
unless that was a bug
it was not. purely 2024
OH you're so right. I guess that answers my question. Devotee Censor it is!
Take the Enspelled Weapon if you get Rare.
actually wait, does fear in normal dnd like it does in bg3?
It's not even a 2014 thing. XD Sorry
Alright, Censor it is!
where it makes you unable to move unless you fail a save?
I plan on getting the Amulet of the Devout and the Censor.
Then if I have enough gold, a +1 or +2 shield and the staff of healing.
Does that sound like a good choice for my cleric?
unable to move closer to the source of fear*
ig that answers my question without meaning to
They just can't move towards you
No I meant to answer your question fully. I dont know what bg3 did to change the condition so i told you what it does in 5e
oh that was me saying what it does in bg3, I thought you were tryna correct me saying what it does in bg3 my bad
No bg3 changes many things so it often causes issues in rules understandings for people that started there
because the arrow of many targets with this one bow in bg3 could cripple entire groups with this one shortbow that gave all arrows the ability to inflict fear
ik it changes many things, hence why I was asking if that was a thing changed
also speaking of things bg3 changes, I still think the way bg3 handles mind flayers and the memories of the person they spawned from is much more interesting than normal dnd's way to handle it
where they start out with some of the memories of the person they came from but also lose them gradually as they eat brains
normal DnD is quite vague on that to start with and mind flayer lore isnt even clear on if they absorb any memories of a brain eaten after the first by their tadpole
bg3 also contradicts the old lore on if they have souls or not as well
i am trying to make a Baker theme character
i want to follow the rule KISS
background was inspired by Chef spore (last character i played as) and wanted to become a baker and didnt get accepted for not following what his people do for work.
Race and class suggestions would help a lot!
I was thinking Leodain cartographer or scribe wizard
what's yalls favorite origin background?
i just discovered haunted one and it seems cool
It's cool, personally Sage for me since it gives Magic Initiate Wizard for free
Sage. Otherwise, Zhentarim Ruffian, Purple Dragon Rook.
I wish I was a drow
trust me, no you dont
No, you don't.
I wish to be a drow genie
If you're a genie, you're not a drow.
I’m telling the genie my wish
Ther Genie grants your wish. you are born as a drow male specifically. Enjoy the suffering
USE YOUR PUNCTUATION.
No
It can only get better from here
Actually, it gets worse.
How much worse
it's a Matriarchy society so being a male there is like being a woman in [redacted irl nation] and you're regarded as a lesser citizen compared to the women.
Also it's just a dangerous society. it's like the mafia but gender swapped
A typical drow male experience involves just being considered worthy enough to keep living, but not too worthy that you should be sacrificed. If you're younger, you have no prospects. If you're older, you're likely a target for the younger brothers to slay and overtake.
All the while, every single woman outranks you.
Simply be born in the singular patriarchal wizard city
Sounds like an average Saturday night
being born as a male drow in any other drow city is a skill issue
I prey for the wicked on the weekend
Or have your whole family die and join Bregan D'aerthe. I'd argue that's one of the 'happier' outcomes working for Jarlaxle; at least your merit has something there.
its optimal to be born in Netheril
At this point, it's more unique to not traumatize the PC. I just want me a humble farm boy with good parents to come home to after an adventuring career.
Depends which era.
So hexbloods. Their related to hags yes?
Not exactly hags themselves
Well i mean as in is one of their parents a hag to be a hexblood
Like how Dhampiers and reborn aren’t fully undead
my only 'orphan' character was raised by a wealthy archwizard and enjoyed a life of luxury. his adopted dad is still alive and kicking.
That's awfully expedient.
Yeah
My goblin Druid named Dott came from a relatively loving tribe well as lovely as a tribe of goblins can be
Goblin....'loving' tribe?
The only good goblin is a dead goblin.
Oh wait they gaaaain their lineage power from a deal with hags (some atleast) im an idiot
Im trying to make an origin for my hexblood character which is why im askin but i dont want to make one whos evil
Grahahaha too bad my parents are in the feywild
Question for everyone: what is a subclass that you wish got more attention? Something that is severely underrated.
Drunken master monk
Death Domain, but only because I want it updated for 2024 to break the mold of "cleric must be a healer".
Obviously there's War Domain, but I need more offensive cleric domains.
There's a few. Sun Soul Monk needs a rework badly. Long Death Monk does too. Battlerager Barbarian as well. Really anything from the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Sun Soul was lightly updated in Xanathar's.
It's not going to be made into a nuclear bomb of Radiant Damage, IMO
Sun soul is so bad
Astral Self could be fun, but I'd only want it if I could be a 2024 Gith. The Stand user monk.
It’s capstone is literally 2d8 radiant damage that has a con save attached
People got too fixated on the Goku that they thought they were getting Goku, Sun Soul Wise
Heaven forbid that Goku be able to be taken out with a simple shot from any weapon
Monk doing less damage then a short sword will forever make me laugh
That feeling when Super Saiyan Goku gets a rock chucked at his head.
The problem with a LOT of 2014 Monks is that their subclass abilities were designed to be supporting Unarmed Strikes, because they were scared stiff of Monks doing nuclear damage
It also had mismatches abilities aka you can’t a radiant sun blot and then a bonus action unarmed strike
also ki was just way too limited of a resource for the first 10 levels
Very expensive but weak spells (burning hands searing burst)
So much of it was "Do this in addition to punch, not working with punch or outdoing damage with punch...also, overcoming magical resistance & Stunning Strike make up for lack of big boom"
My first pc was a drunken master monk and it was so much fun
Sun Soul was a victim of Early Edition version of Early Game Syndrome
That’s the issue with sun soul you can’t do a radiant sun bolt attack and then an unarmed strike
It had so many issue working against it that you might as well not have a sub class
I'm quite aware.
Even then, people projecting headcanon Goku onto it made its already terrible reputation worse than it should have been
Probably monster slayer ranger or beast barbarian
A+ class. But I also think all classes are A+ haha.
Convince me to play a martial. I can't get over the temptation of "fireball and eldritch blast go brrrr"
Let Sun Soul Monks go Super Saiyan
Open Hand Monks should become Kenshiros
4 elements should be the avatar state
Well this suuuuucks
Tryna create Kopis and Falcata designs for my character and they look too similar
Why? It was logical since unarmed attacks are less than most weapons anyway. The difference has always been that eventually the Monk would do more damage than any weapon later in his career. In 5e they limited it d10 in 2014 and increased it to d12 in 2024. In earlier editions the Monk could do 8d4 points of damage per hit.
Hello, can you advice me some subclass for Pugilists- i starting at level for as Orc with feat Grappler. with this feat looks like grappled-oriented subclass The Squared Cirle is not so usefull, that better would fit Pugilist with Grappler feat?
If you can't get over that temptation, then don't. There is never a need for you to have to play a class you don't want to play.
But if you really want to, maybe dip your toes in with a half caster so you can still get the martial feel with the limited casting.
I still don't touch martials. Half casters, sure, but martials, meh.
Pretty sure pugilist is technically #third-party
Bards are great
I am new here, how can I join the conversation pls
They are alright
Are you also new to D&D? Welcome
Yes
Check out #dnd-newcomers , they have resources in there for the basic rules and terminology and stuff
You speak
That too
Anyone can join the conversation
Ok cool
Welcome. We promise not to haze you.
Ok this is a weird question but does anyone here know of a way to get a humanoids statblock to CR 10 or lower while leaving its full statblock retrievable? I’m trying to do something with Boon of Fluid Forms.
We? Who is we? They'll learn what this server is the hard way or the harder way!
I must've pased my Deception if you're asking me that.
what?
Is ragebait secretly just deception checks?
performance id say
Note to self: use the Influence action with 'Performance' if I ragebait with my fairy PC.
I'd say its deception cause you know what your doing is stupid
Yeah, but youre acting at that point
If you know it's stupid, why would you be doing it?
The simple solution is be too stupid to realize it's dumb, and thus have no dilemma.
Actor doesn't necessarily mean that it is performing.
It's all an act to bait someone, thus Performance.
Wait nevermind I need to figure something else out first.
Also yeah no it’s performance.
I suppose if you're actively lying to warrant a specific action, Deception makes sense, too.
Hazing ritual
I don't think so, because you're trying to lie on purpose for the point of getting a reaction. To me that sounds like deception
"It's a safe space," I say, lying out of my teeth inside a Zone of Truth. (I passed the Saving Throw.)
Ive won in dnd
I used to be flamed my dms for backflipping and dancing and singing in bars
But now I play a bard so im allowed to
40 minutes until the big boss fight at the end of the adventure.
I'm so afraid I'm going to kill them all.
Not enough, seduce the table
Seduce the DM
I spend entire actions just ragebaiting during battles as any class, and it makes the fights so much more fun. I love the Influence action.
"What's the difference between a goblin and a shoe? One doesn't scream like a b— when I step in it."
I cant wait to do this lmao
I get to play instruments and raise hell in bars
Sounds like a barbarian line
Your kidding me man I had the perfect gif
"One doesn't scream like a bi- when I step in it" proceeds to absolutely cave in the goblin's chest with it's foot
Bard is gonna be fun
I used that line as the wizard in the backline to bait the enemy into Opportunity Attacks. So many died just losing all sense to try to kill me.
I don't need attacks to win battles. 0 damage playthroughs are neat.
Anyone open to trying a new version I’m making where if you go to the crucible (think planet doom from ready player one), if you die you lose all your brought gear. There are others places to go though, like mountain climbing, either way. And all you need is 6 D6’s for the simple mode.
I mean i feel like your allies are doing damage.
That's the idea. Let them shine; I just troll in the back buffing/debuffing.
It wouldn’t let me post on it, but thanks anyway
#find-a-game has the instructions on how to use it
I feel it could be either if the Player can justify the method
To me it's fun if players use their Skills creatively
Should've been a half-caster. Regardless, it is a good class
haven't played a bard yet
Love me a bard
Ngl since how good bards are, they could probably be half casters and still be decent
i'm planning to do a bladesinger wizard next probably
But also i love bards and would not like it
i'm particularly fond of Arcane Trickster Rogues even though they're 1/3rd casters
Nice
i can understand the bard half caster idea, since 3.5 bards were like 3/4ths casters, only getting to a max spell level of 7th
They are nice
I like arcane tricksters
Bladesinger is very fun, just be careful running into melee, from personal experience haha
yes, i mean in theory you could also homebrew a rule that makes their spells trigger sneak attack
Just use True Strike
True strike, booming blade or green flame blade work
Booming blade being my fav
they work with sneak attack?
yes?
oh yeah i love booming blade but i haven't been able to use it yet
I don't hate that idea tbh, could be added, but probably not possible for most of the spells
i'm not saying all spells but it's a good idea
gotcha
I believe they do because they involve attacking with your weapon
i mean in theory if you're behind 3/4ths cover and throw a firebolt, add sneak attack with your damage etc
didn't know, DMs so far have said that they don't trigger sneak attack. but that might've been because we were playing 2014
doesnt change. Its still an attack with a weapon
Shadowblade is a cool spell for arcane trickster rogues btw
Well True Strike is pathetic for 2014 rogues (and every class)
Oh you can sneak attack with it?
its a finesse weapon iirc, yeah
It’s a finesse weapon?
Oh heck yeah!
i'm pretty sure yes
It is a simple finess sword
yes it is! i think it's always a finesse weapon that you immediately gain proficiency with for the duration of the spell (if you weren't before)
Noted
Althoug a dm did not let me first time i got to play with it
Hi guys I’m bored
In 2014 as long as the attack is with a finesse or ranged weapon it counts
What are we talking about so I can join?
hi bored
Hi bored, im Ti-Moth
theorycrafting about combining sneak attack with spells
Oops I’m a little behind, you got it figured out already
Sounds like it might be busted
Which spells exactly?
we're talking about arcane trickster. they're a 1/3rd caster so they don't get a lot of high-powered spells or spell slots anyways
As a DM I’d say booming blade or green flame blade would be a definite go for sneak attack, but not anything that doesn’t involve the weapon itself
Personally, I’d allow it on single-target spells, but not AoE spells
Imagine how busted FIREBALL would be with an extra few d6s on top of it
My power corrupts
Fire Bolt and Shocking Grasp would probably be fine with Sneak Attack
i was specifically thinking about single target ranged spells with sneak attack not AOE
i dont think spells should be allowed for sneak attack at all
RAW those would all be no good. Flame blade and shadow blade yes, but ranged spell attacks I don’t think so
@valid geyser love the dungeon meshi pfp btw
Bg3 is probably the only way to make true strike useful in dnd 5e
True strike got super buffed in 2024, it’s good now
it's barely useful in that as well, and anyways BG3 isn't really dnd with its mechanics
2024 true strike is strong but its not even really the same spell in any regard
True Strike is good in 2024
It's really trash but you can beat the game with it
i'm just not a fan of true strike when i could use shocking grasp or fog cloud instead
Is a shillelagh ranger without a shield viable?
yes definitely
Oki thanks!
One thing I like about BG3 is song of rest just gives you a short rest as an action
What does it do in dnd?
Any reason you might not wanna use a shield btw?
Lets you roll a Bardic die for more healing
Still viable, just curious
Extra HP during a short rest for people who expend hit dice
I don't really like it's flavour for my character
Fair
Ah i see
What weapon are you planning to use?
If it’s shillelagh im assuming quarter staff?
And if your DM is being lore accurate, you can’t cast spells with somatic components if both your hands are occupied
Could be dual wielding club and smt else for all I know
I want to play a fey wanderer and originally wanted to use a bow, but heard he's more viable with a wis build so now I'm thinking of shillelagh and magic stones
True I forget about clubs a lot
Depending on how you play that might be worthy of a Druid build too
I see, well all the more reason for it
Magic Stone is a cool spell
What do yall think of HP Lovecraft's work in dnd?
Can't use shillelagh on two things at once though
Indeed
Don’t get racist with it
If it was possible I would’ve said two clubs
whats the purpose of putting HPL's work in your games?
Waiting for someone to make the cheap hp lovecraft's cat joke
Not here lol
our dm is lore accurate, he required @fossil hollow to have incense to summon find familiar
Wrong guy
But yeah cosmic horror could be very cool in D&D
Druid doesn't really fit this as much i think. I don't want to play a nature guy so much as a weapon based skill monkey and since i already played a rogue, hopefully not a rogue
Can someone cast a small de-hex on my dice they are all rolling terribly on me
Ah I see. You did see fey wanderer so for at least that I think Druid could still make sense
Ig swords bard* can also work
Fighter with the skilled and skill expert feats
lol immaculate typo
Fey wanderer is for charisma based on wisdom
Isn't that a bit too many feats?
Fighters get more feats remember
Fighter gets 2 more than others
I guess so
If it's 2024, you kinda end up not knowing what to take featwise sometimes on fighters/rogues
If you're running something that's not feat heavy
I'm playing with 2014 rules rn
In that case, yeah probably too many
Even then actually probably not
Depending on what you're running.
didn't you summon an osprey??
hi sora
Hello
Is a bow fey wanderer also as viable as shillelagh/magic stones?
they were talking to another person
oh
I imagine so
Oh heck no
Then it's between fey wanderer/sword bard
That could be a fun multiclass. A Bonk
Or a Mard
Mord or Bank
Tavern Brawler Bard actually kinda sounds fun
You’d need to either Point Buy mega dump Int and Str or roll god stats
RP wise at least
Can a college of swords bard use a longbow?
No natural proficiency with Longbows
If they get Proficiency from somewhere else it could work
No way charlotte cracker from one piece
College of swords gives proficiency with one martial weapon
It gives you Scimitar
or a warlock dip
O, hexblade
Waterdeep’s Favorite Ice Cream Treat™
I dont recall any warlocks in Waterdeep. Elturel and Baldur's Gate, sure
Minsc should have been Boos warlock
Last i remember, Boo is just a miniature giant space hamster
I like how eldritch knight is just the complete opposite to bladesinger basically
He's also incredibly wise and powerful
Its Boo
Eldritch knight is a strong frontliner with weaker spells. Bladesingers a weaker frontliner with stronger spells
And hexblade is the odd middle child
Big Fighter little Wizard vs Big Wizard little fighter
Which is why i give em the moderatley armed feat lol
"Opposite" isn't quite the word. Two sides of the same coin, really. One's more martial, the other's more spellcaster.
Basically lol
Blade singer is a guy who sings with blades, eldritch knight is a knight who's really old
It’s funny how many classes get given a subclass about a magical weapon making them do things
Where is the swords bard then
Can’t wait for ‘oath of artefact’ sword
The forgotten cousin
Your mum's house.
Odd reply but pop off
You’re no fun lol
That wasn't meant for you. You dived in at the wrong click. Caught a stray.
Oath of tax collection when
I do think bladesingers should gain medium armor prof at default tho ngl
I had a Hexblade in my Waterdeep campaign until they had to leave for art school
thats right, im a F(r)iend
No they do not.
That’s just crown with extra steps
NO
They’re already freaking amazing, AC 17 would be too far
17 + INT mod + 5 from Shield be crazy
I'm sitting at 20 AC already as a Level 4 Bladesinger. It does not need Medium.
this is why tortle bladesinger is infamous
I guess so
Sooo picking moderatley armed feat may have made my wizard a lil op
Tortle Monk should be able to add their Wis modifier
I just love Tortles being busted
Yeah I think my lvl…13? (I forget) bladesinger has like 21 ac during bladesong before shield
And shield spell
You cant even do it in nonlihgt armor iirc
That’s probably why I don’t use shield
They’re not given medium armour for a reason
Starting at 2nd level, you can invoke an elven magic called the Bladesong, provided that you aren't wearing medium or heavy armor or using a shield.
bro thinks his medium armor with his wizard is op
Can't hold a shield with Bladesinger.
or med armor
Medium armour does nothing for a dex based class, though ig it could work if you want to main strength
We're singing praises of bladesinging again? hell yeah
in 2024, they dont even get armor
Only if you train with your wererat sensei
and BSong is turned off if you have any armor
We’re weaving the tapestries of singing a blade
Any?!
yeap. Not even light armor is allowed
Trust me when I say you don't need it.
Teen-age Mu-tant Nin-ja Tur-tles!
Thatssss stupid
like at all
Dang, Oh I know they dont need it, but that's interesting now
Funny enough, blade singing sounds more like the sword bard subclass than the actual sword bard subclass
Dang I’m glad I’m playing 2014 bs then
its already damn good enough without med armor
No ac is ever too high
No s
No crap, really?
Greater than 40 is
blade singer blades are really just for show anyways
Correct. Bladesinging is not possible with armor or shield, so it's pointless. I just grab a rapier and pretend I'm Maelle.
in any case, you cant put or wear med armor and have Bladesong up
It’s kinda funny because bladesong iirc is kinda described more like a dance, so I feel like RP wise it tracks with college of dance
Because I think max + to hit is + 19?
in 2014 or 2024
I have barely any knowledge of what bladesinging does
THANK YOU. I felt crazy saying this a few days ago in here
If i want to make a barber bard, what subclass do i use?
youre playing it :V
It’s a bonus action that gives you a huge ac and concentration buff
Well, no, College of Dance leans more into unarmed.
Bladesinging is a trance of maneuvers and dance-like movement.
Among other things
it dips
who am i kidding though, i play rogues and open fist monks
The sword wizards should’ve been called something like school of steel, or bookblades
Well, no, because Bladesinging is passed down orally to begin with, and lorewise is tied to the elves. You're not supposed to read a book and know how.
I RP it as making the sword sound like those tubes you swing around and they play a tone. Hence the blade singing
Hey I got an idea
Well, I got it approximately a year ago
Ultimate Feats
Basically, at 20th Level, work with your DM to get exactly One extremely broken superfeat
For instance, let’s say you’re an Artificer
Epic Boon?
My pc is also a Drow so he’s very much doing a bastardized version of the Realms accurate blade singing
You get those at level 19
The Aevendrow know how to Bladesing. It's mentioned in The Finest Edge of Twilight. They even broke the rule and put it in a book for Breezy to learn.
that sounds like an epic boon
why do people hate gnomes
An Artificer’s Ultimate Feat could straight up just
Turn them Full Caster
Who's 'people'?
I dunno. Did you ask them why they hate gnomes?
some people are racist to gnomes
did you ask them why
no
The neighbours always have them out their front garden and they look really creepy
cuz we cant really speak for those people
So what does it mean when i get a bonus ac equal to my intelligence modifier, like if i have a +4 to INT i get a +4 ac???
im thinking of a character concept of a warlock gnome who carries a mace with 8 strength
yes
The FR wiki glosses over how they're secluded because the creatures they come across tend to be bigger and meaner, instinctively trying to take advantage of their perceived weakness.
and is completely spell focused
thats. Just a warlock
Mines a far traveler from Imberlur, but that’s cool I didn’t realize that
I think gnomes are cool
I like how smart they are
I don’t like Forest Gnomes though, they don’t build stuff as much as Rock and Deep Gnomes
Well i finally got that answered. Been scratching my head over that for the past few weeks
wha
Well alr im ditching the moderatley armed feat and grabbing another
Warlocks are spell focused
Very obscure lore that you'd need to read the book to know, honestly.
yes but this is a gnome that carries a mace too
Forest gnomes are an invasive group responsible for driving out squirrels, woodpeckers and other small tree based species
ok?
So it’s a warlock that happens to have a mace?
You can go pact of the blade if you want
Ed Greenwood’s YouTube channel 😉
Any feats i should get for my bladesinger that yall would recommend
#optimization would have some reccomendations
That kinda just breaks balancing of characters, and classes already get level 20 capstones
nah the mace is purely to show
Gotcha
War caster+ blade song + concentration spells are super hard to break haha
ok then, so its just a warlock holding a mace
Plus at lv20 you don’t need MORE power
just a normal lock then
yes, without any benefit to it
yeah, its just a normal warlock
Is that
Is that the whole character concept
yes
Is it a cool mace? Like their dead father’s that they want to use to defeat his killer? Or a secret artefact that’ll become a powerful weapon later down the campaign?
they said no benefits to it
ya it's mainly just for very useless intimidation that will not work ever
I feel sorry for the dm of that campaign
Like what do you do with no backstory except a pointless mace??
Warlocks are decent at Intimidation :V
I like breaking character balancing because I like broken butt bosses
Why are the bosses butts broken
Yeah, since they have good Cha
HAH
no there is backstory ofc but they also just have a mace
Wait a damn minute
So…
Why even have a mace
Cuz it’s cool
Why the hell doesn’t Warlock have the option to take Proficiency in Intimidation?
i mean like, it's a gnome with a mace. probably bigger than him
Greatmace lmao
they don't? I thought they do
They do.. not persuasion though.
Gnome with a maul but it’s just a regular mace
To threaten people. With a weapon.
They do make gnome sized maces
It’d be funnier to have like a warhammer or a greatsword
You carry a greatsword but whenever someone asks you insist that it’s a dagger
oo that could work too
maces dont have points they deal bludgeoning damage for a reason
theyre a little bit spiky depending on which one
A mace has several points most of the time
Like, im looking at several picutres of maces, they have those leaf things on the sides
The most common depiction is a ball with a bunch of spikes
Flails are basically maces with a chain between the handle and the ball
it was a joke
no chain is mace, with mace is flail
what is even happening
Yall thinking about a Morningstar
Tone doesnt translate over text mate
I knew it was a joke I was just talking about maces because I like them
Let the people riff
If they fail the Insight check, just keep rolling.
I already am bad at Insight checks IRL, text does not make it any better
anyone have an open campagin for my friend and i? new to dnd willing to learn
If ya want so for sure i do
Hey, asking for y'alls opinion, how hard is it to get into a game here?
Games are posted in #looking-for-players decently frequently but there’s a lot of demand
Howdy ya'll
ever made a character backstory that made you cry when rereading it? In my case I have a changeling necromancer whose true form is faceless, and she grew up feared and seen as something to be feared, a thing, so she hid in masks, different faces and became a theif until she stole a necromantic grimoire that reminds her of necromancy more than teaches her, because she's reminded of a time as a child she forgot about where she happened to animate an undead, and because it didn't fear her, she named it mikey her first friend. it was eventually destroyed by adults who feared it. and now as she clings to her newest face, she clings to her undead friends. not tools, not creations. companions. the only ones who don't fear her real face
Well it's agony finding one open on saturdays... thinkin I may make my own campaign, but unsure if I can. I've homebrewed plenty of encounters for oneshots, but IDK, a whole campaign scares me
Cool
Best movies if I like dnd or want to get into dnd vibe?
I like the dnd movie
Also same
Honor among thieves
The 2023 one?
I say any movie with a group of protagonists, look at them as dnd players and see what sticks.
it's definitely recommended. really fun
Does any one guide me to play properly and like the master in DND... I have a dream i want to play like a pro player
I'm beginner
Welcome! A great place to start is #learn-to-play which has a link to the free Basic Rules and #dnd-newcomers which has a bunch of helpful people that can answer any questions you might have
This is basically one big game of imagination
Aight
we play pretend, and use math and made up rulings just so we don't argue over who beats who
It sounds a lot harder than it is.
A lot of the difficulty is honestly mental, and usually self-inflicted.
Like my first campaign which was my worst, be open to that probability, just means the only way you can go is up from there.
I overworked myself doing way too prep when I should've just planned for session 1.
Hello
Only way to learn is to fail, right?
Pretty much
DMing is like any skill. You can read guides, watch videos, but ultimately you can only improve by doing.
Well I'mma be brewin, till then I might be goin to fight pirates. Found a game.
Thanks man
Most important part is just finding what kinda game you wanna run, then find people who wanna play that
I have one of the best blessings of all time. I can come up with lore for ocs and characters just like that aslong as im well informed on the world
Like I enjoy running games influenced by players decisions ingame and out of game.
Like if some player is theorizing there might be a mimic later in the dungeon above table and they sound kinda excited, then boom, door mimic.
Only sometimes tho
More often it's social related
Like I had a random blacksmith become a core npc cause they thought she was their patrons wife and I thought it'd be funny
Like for the most part, my current campaign I don't really prep anymore
Tho that's mainly cause I did so much initial prep, if I were doing something more story focused, I'd be prepping session by session.
#find-a-game perhaps this could help
Sorry I'm ranting now, but point is.
You find what you enjoy cause dming is a passion project.
Kk ty
Kay!
Oh boy my hexblood wizards gonna be fun
Hello chat
Nice pfp btw
BTW, is this a channel for talkin about the oneshot's I've made? ooooor do I need to swap?
#dm-discussion would likely be a better place
thx
Hello everyone it's been awhile since I talked here
Thanks
Henlo
Hey, I’ve been getting back into my “nerdy” side of you want to call it that. But I’ve been getting into DnD and Pokemon a lot more and have been wondering if there was a Pokemon DnD
There's a Pokemon ttrpg if you want something that replicates the game faithfully.
However if you just want to adventure and roleplay, there is a 5e hack.
I played a Star Wars one before is there a Pokemon version like that? Or was that like an actual partnership thing?
For sure I’ll dm u
Ok now i understand why bladesingers dont have medium armor prof. That is extremely powerful
There was one but it got shut down by WoTC and TPC
WOTC has never partnered with Pokemon in an official manner for D&D
I wish they did, though
My former hyperfixation and my current hyperfixation
Dang. So I’d have to make a homebrew kinda thing?
Up above, Sora mentioned there's a Pokemon 5E hack. There's also several Pokemon fanmade TTRPGs out there. You have options for sure. ✌️
Keep in mind if you're looking to emulate the game itself it wont do the trick
I don’t envy you
There are One Thousand And Fifteen Pokemon, and that’s a lot of stat blocks
Even if you’re sticking to Kanto, that’s still One Hundred And Fifty-One
its mainly to capture the vibes of pokemon with something people know how to play
Google Sheets would be golden for it. Might take years but it’s possible
id just either check out the hack or the pokemon ttrpg first
Alright. I’ll take a look to see how it is. Thank you
I don't know if I agree with that. We played pokeymanz and it was really great. You build a trainer and build a signature pokemon. And then you pick a move sent - and it's built on a pretty generic ruleset.
Of course, it's not 5E D&D at all. I honestly don't think 5E is the right system for Pokemon.
Im just going off what i know exists, never heard of pokeymanz
There's almost always a better system for Non D&D things, then 5E. Not that it ever stops people from trying to bend 5E into increasingly weird and ill fitting shapes. I blame WOTC Marketing 5E to the point it's considered like the generic default TTRPG. It's like the Band-aid/Google/Kleenex of TTRPGs.
It’s not really that I want a DnD pokemon it’s more that I want a fantasy pokemon game that is somewhat controlled instead of having to stare at a screen and grind battles. I’d rather have human interaction and not 50 rattatas
If we want to keep talking about it, it's probably best to go to #non-dnd-topics, but I'll add this Reddit thread that talks about several fan-made TTRPGs for Pokemon. Because there's so many, you'll need to figure out what sort of experience you want (more narrative, more "crunchy", etc.).
Hope that helps. Best of luck! https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonTabletop/comments/1hqldtl/how_many_pokemon_ttrpg_system_are_there/
Alright thank you! Didn’t know what chat to ask it in
Hey I was wondering if anyone knows the good-ist goody two shoes cleric subclass with high healing?
I mean probably Peace Cleric right?
Alright thank you
:D
Hi guys, as someone who has never played DND but would like to start where should I start?

Okay so let's say that I wanted to make a armorer artificer... and let's say I wanted them to just throw hands, right?
:3
Just absolutely deck enemies in the face.
Maybe a rocket punch.
Wsg dudes and dudettes
Wsg?
You’d probably like the guardian model for armorer
YESSSSS
Why do they not count as unarmed attacks though that's dumb :(
I mean it's literally just a metal hand giving a punch.
whats good brother
Because game mechanics and abstraction... 🤷
i see no reason you couldn't flavor it as such
armorer artificer is probably one of the easier subclasses to reflavor into punches
Ive... done that before
im trying to remember how
Ask your DM
i am using the new artificer class we need a way to pick if we don or dof the armor
Don't have a game yet, just making it for fun.
sorta, you still would rather have consistently high ac over ac tied to a daily resource
you don't know how many encounters a day it will be
What?
I'm not really sure what you're asking here. There's only one Artificer subclass that has anything to specifficaly do with armor, and the answer to "Do I wear the armor or not?" Is typically Yes? Anyone with an armor profficiency and no features like Unarmored Defense will probably want to be wearing armor.
What do y’all think about hideous laughter
It annoys casters. And is also quite good against anything that doesn't have super good Wisdom Saves. Incapacitated is basically taking everything out of a fight.
I’m hearing good things
Mind you it is only a single target, and concentration, so it will fall off at higher levels pretty quick when you start getting AOE control spells.
But it will never not be a bad choice to have it in your back pocket.
almost took it as a spell as a bard but i prefered options like "Heat metal"
it seems enticing... i feel like theres just better options in its field
Heat metal is an amazing spell
At first level, as a "If you fail the save your'e out of the fight" Control spell, I don't think it has an equal aside from something like Sleep at low levels.
However sleep gets next to useless at later levels, while Tasha's laughter does not.
Because Sleep cares about HP (Unless 2024 changed that), which bloats like crazy
Yeah the new sleep is a saving throw now
Then Sleep might compete pretty hard for it, as It's proabbly still multi-target.
But creatures that don’t sleep or are immune to exhaustion are immune to the save
Meaning it can’t effect thri kreens now
oh yeah yall, could i get feedback on my bard spell list?
You don and doff the armor the regular way. If its your Arcane Armor, then you get to don or doff it as an action instead of the normal time for the armor.
best to ask those questions on #character-discussion
my mistake original gangster
No worries, the mods are just veeeeery particular about where certain things go.
So i've heard.
thank you for saving me from the wrath of the law
please note it's also against server rules to discuss moderation outside of private thread in #moderator-support
Moving on
Im laughing at the stupidity of myself. I am a new DM and all. Doing a homebrew campaign, EXP for level up.
My players are joking about being Murderhobos. I told em, if they're murderhobos to the right people (aka, the evil people), they'll get rewards that can and will be ironic.
Example I gave is the staff of Wakus Bonkus and give it to the party's pacifist healer. The staff, to use it, you must whack whomever you wanna heal with it. The harder you hit em, the more they get healed.
my mistake
Nice! Hope your group is having fun!
Our session zero is Tuesday actually!
ze healing is not as rewarding as ze hurting.
As long as folks are having fun, you're doing D&D just fine!
I gave them pretty free creative liberty when creating their characters, and the campaign is a darker themed campaign. (Includes somewhat touchy subjects like racism, but between species, like kobolds and humans. I even threw in the term "Scaleism" where say a red Kobold and Blue Kobold hate each other believing their own scales are superior.)
Though we have a gryphon that is more akin to an arakocra. Though, at the start, each of them are injured, like the gryphon having a wing broken type thing. (Cause ik, flying at litterally level 1 can be very OP.)
i think fictional race racism is realistic (also a bit funny)
Let's be careful here - our games echo real life and our server rules do cover fantasy racism.
Let's keep it general and not get much more into the fantasy racism or else we'll need to moderate it.
Thanks!
i did not see it in the rules, my bad
Of course. I wasnt going to really get into anyways.
Appreciate it!
The one island in the campaign does have 2 species who work in tandem though! Humans and arakocra. Its a farming island. Basically humans do the farm work and land defense, arakocra fly the harvest to the mainland to sell it and protect the skies.
They do have a major port on the northern side, but thats basically in case they get any specialized guests like kings, queens, etc.
