Be a brony
But easily translated
I guess I’ll just leave yall alone
Where in the DMG?
I was an mlp fan before it was cool okay (I was a little girl)
There are lances, and I believe Fighters have a horseback subclass
Sorry, meant to reply to you, #dnd-newcomers can help you understand the rules of the game, and any questions you might have
Could a pegasus mount work?
Not DMG, it's another book, I'm forgetting the name, let me find the source rq before I summarize it
I just came here mainly to learn about learn about lore so I can make my own fantasy universe
Pegasus is indeed a species in the game, and a horse
Find Steed(?)
#dnd-lore is perfect for you then?
uh ok
To clarify, Im aware: I mean would the flying part be unfair
Probably not super well for a pegasus mount though. Mounted combat is a little underutilized as far as official content goes
it's not that active so yk...
Ig i'd have to homebrew a bit
Is it more or less unfair than the restriction that you’re going to be mostly useless outside of horseback combat (which DnD is obviously famous for having a large amount of)
True i just like the pegasus knight Aura
Well! Flying and its power can really vary depending on who you ask. I personally think it’s kind of overrated but
ig if aasimar's are allowed theres no reason pegasi mounts wouldnt be
Isn’t it obvious the second D in DND stands for horse
Yeah, I love my Dhorse
I thought it stood for dodo birds
I mean the big scaley fire breathing horses are in every dam promo image
i know you're joking but im pretty sure most of the 1e dragon monster manual art was just traced from horses
Of course I’m joking
Horses don’t have scales
They don't? 😱
On Dragons— Wyvern Knights are definitely the Drakewardens though.
Nope
I’m 99% certain they can breath fire though
@jolly crypt Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen
That is true. I have personally witnessed a horse breathe fire
My robots been downed!
I'm emotionally devastated 😭
I can repair him though :>
Upgrade him with the flesh of your enemies
That book has smth called The Fray, which is a scaling tide of combatants that act as difficult terrain, and there are rules for Commander abilities
Turn him into a real boy, not a puppet with a big nose
His name Is S.A.K.R (Super Ass-Kicking Robot)
Sacker
Does he also manage severance for employees of businesses
I know S.K.A.R was there, but that was too edgy for my character lol
No, but he's killed a majority of our enemies over the course of the campaign
-# super kicking ass robot?
No
Super Kick-Ass Robot
I prefer the interpretation where it’s a terrible robot with great calves
He looks like the Robot from Star Wars that says "Congratulations, You're being rescued! Do not resist!"
What's y’all favorite type of custom class?
The non-custom kind.
The funny ones
Like ‘commoner’ as a class
Subclasses of farmer, miner and hunter
Update for my character
lmao I just got asked if my character likes femboys
Top ten non sequiturs of all time
Starting to realize having 4 resistances and bumping it up to 9 for a reaction and a spell slot will be quite interesting
and the answer is no
Bummer.
she only likes girls, not guys
but it’s not limited to cis girls thankfully
anyway that’s not a topic I should probably discuss here
It's a slippery slope.
Is there any other kind of slope
Probably best to avoid the slippery slope
I’m probably not making a good first impression
My character died in a slippery slope.
By the way, I heard a story in DnD last night
Hello fellow dnders
You're fine.
What about?
Character making a deal with a fey. Curing his mother of a sickness and being in significantly better health in return for his first child
Contract was made, what do you think the guy said to the fey?
Who does
Just Reroll with inspiration
I kind of get what your saying
Oh, this one
He wants to make the child with the fey.
I actually have a dnd dice somewhere but not with me
"When do we start?"
does a higher number mean better?
But seriously. It would be a nice way to blend humor with turning the tables
And a contract turning into how your 2 loving parents came to be
That's honestly the level of romance I enjoy. Light hearted and enjoyable, but not dipping into full on lust
Which, personal take, when that gets too frequent, is mega cringe
Seriously when does a higher number mean worse in D&D 🤔
Someone made a perception check for an NPC passing by. Number = gp stolen
Any damage or attacks against you
Y’all got me there.
Although probably not a perception check, more like a d20
I rolled a 20
Does d in d20 just mean dice? I never understood that.
Speaking of, I don't think you were here before. But something tells me my character will be much harder to kill
its notation
Sides of the dice. So a maul for 2d6 damage means you are rolling 2 6 sided dice
But I digress. The TLDR is
Here we go.
I'm making a great defensive combination of Cunning Action, Absorb Elements, and being a vampire spawn for my Ranger/Rogue
4 resistances if I don't make a huge blunder, 5 others using a reaction and 1st level spell, and being able to Disengage as a BA alongside Dodging as an action
All this when you could just take Epic Boon of Night and invalidate all that smh /j
Would have been fun. But hey, what i said above is available at level 7
And when I hit level 10, I can use reactions to halve incoming damage on attacks. And if it's BPS, that means I'm only taking a quarter of the damage
Hey guys… I’ve never played so I was wondering if someone can do a session for me
Besides, module is level 11 max
feel free to check out #dnd-newcomers and #find-a-game
Ik, why I said /j
Rolling random magic items for a shop
Because then you end up with only 500k+ go items you can’t buy
My robot is okay
I survived the Combat with 3 Hp
Life is good.
The balance is maintained
Magic missile
My characters arm was ripped off...
But it was his modular mechanical one that he can just reattach lol
I would’ve taken his arm and when giving it back to him say “Need a hand?”
Nah, he ripped it out of the worms mouth that bit it off and blew its head schmoove off with his plasma caster lol
Is he a monk? Seems pretty proficient in unarmed combat.
No..
This is Starfinder 2e, he's a Mechanic lol
I know its offtopic, but its been a while since the group has been able to play together,
He,Himself is a Ysoki/Ratfolk
it's probably fiiiine :3 , ,, , tthough, people here don't really like emotions besides like, , , passive aggressiveness, and it's a corpo server so you tend to have to watch what you say closely or else , , , ,
Praise Bhaal
I once sang the praises of Baal. There are three choruses to Baal in the oratorio Elijah.
I'm looking for opinions from DMs that are experienced in multiple tiers of play: what would you say are the best levels for enemy diversity? I'm looking to make a 10-15 ish session campaign where my players see a bit of everything due to an in-universe reason
20 because you could use any of the monsters but in increasing quantities the lower Cr they are
Also high Cr leader NPCs mix well with tons of low level dudes
hey, where can I post a story for my campaign and get some info on it?
They're not terribly experienced so I fear throwing them at level 20
Ah if they aren’t that experienced start at level 5 then build to level 10
Majority of DnD’s monsters are in that range anyway.
Basically the 4 tiers of the game are good to measure the type of story you want to tell
With the right magic items you could pull off an Adult dragon boss battle
Sounds good, kind of exactly what I was striving for as a climax for one of the areas
What was the lowest CR monster y'all have ever died to?
What would natural causes be? Or yourself?
Adult Red Dragon
In fairness, only one of my characters has ever died so far lol
I killed a player with a bandit
Three of my characters have died
Two died to a Lich or
One Died killing a Lich, the other died defending the group from a Lich so they could escape the Shadowfell
And my other fella was killed, but then revivied because the 'Evil" guys thought they could recruit him to their cause
Only one of my characters as died, as far as I can recall. It was my first one. When I joined the game, the other players killed off my character because her Charisma score was low. This was high school. Boys are stupid.
... Huh...
One of my players did die to a CR 1/8 Guard, though in fairness they were pretty frail warlock at level 1 😛
My character died to a holy hand grenade
They didn't want to play with me, a girl.
Well, dodged a bullet there
Yes, but it still sucked.
Indeed
It was a very long time ago, thankfully.
We'll find them and fight them /joking

how tf, what level?
My campaign prep document is now 41 pages for the next adventure and counting...
I am way too thorough
One of my buddies is attempting to use true strike on a shortbow. Does anyone on here have the appropriate custom weapon boolean logic lines to make a custom weapon to reflect the change in stats appropriately?
Weve been trying for a while now and havent been successful yet
Does anyone know what DnD realm Xynthis is? Or is it a homebrewed setting most likely? I am joining a campaign this Sunday called Xynthis (your story) and have never heard of Xynthis before
most likely homebrew
Kk Ty
hi everybody! in a campaign with a newer DM and we're noticing a problem very quickly where one player is very strong (has a very high AC and pretty high hp) and most of the other players have much lower AC and hitpoints. we're all level 1 atm and until level 3 this will probably be a problem, does anyone have any suggestions on ways to help mitigate this problem?
first, verify that you're all following the game's rules. Have you done HP and AC calculations like how the game wants you to? Whats the player's Class and how much is their HP and AC?
If its like "Our Paladin has an AC of 19 and 12 HP while we only have 14 AC and 9 HP" then thats fully expected
At level 1, no one's hp/ac should be overwhelmingly high unless they cheated or it was rolled stats
yeah hes a paladin
its not overwhelmingly high period its just high compared to the rest of us
whats the other classes and their Constitutions
Oh yeah that's normal in that case, more context would be nice though
im not sure about everyone but we have a few martial classes and it looks like the average hp is about 10-15~ish
With Chainmail and a Shield and the Defense Fighting Style, Paladins can get a pretty high Armor Class. They're designed to absorb attacks for the group.
hes got 20 ac and 12 hp atm
12 hp is average
the 20 ac is not
20 ac is interesting though indeed
youd have to be warforge on top of gwyn's reccomendation to get there
Yeah, 19 is regular. (Chainmail+Shield+Defense Fighting Style) 20 is a little interesting
have you tried talking and asking the player an dm about it
Yeah it should be 19 AC, still v high but that's heavy armor lol
we're in the middle of a discussion about it rn actually
hes got plate apparently, not chain
Ask them how they calculated that AC. Like step-by-step, how did they go from 10 AC (unarmored) to 20 via their build
ok, starting plate is interesting
oh damn he's got plate? thats easy then. Plate+Shield=20AC
?? That's insane for a starting item
You're absolutely stacked with money to start with Plate lol
family heirloom off the bat
yeah what happened in his backstory? family go bankrupt buying that?
nah its just the characters gimmick, the character is a plasmoid running around in armor thats effectively kind of a roomba type shape (the guy is a shitposter and my dm thought it was funny) and they decided it should be plate
Have you guys ever used AI to make you a battlemap? Can it do that?
get out bruh 😭
Wat
Yeah idk man a plate's like 1500 gp, that's enough money to fund like 4 standard parties
*1800
no and no
Truth be told, I've tried to use it to do something as simple as upscaling a battlemap's resolution, and it truly failed to do so while retaining the visible map features (cover, elevation changes, light/darkness, the grid) needed for the game.
Thanks Ti. I was curious since ive heard people use it for ideas (tragic), but I never heard it mentioned for maps.
"hello people who have fun through the majesty of human creativity and ingenuity, have you ever had a clanker ruin the planet so you dont have to open up one of the countless programs that helps you do what i want it to do?"
Did they increase Plate cost in 2024
ai in general is not going to help you
Thanks CaseOh. I was just curious, dang.
is it not generally 1800?
no, still 1500
My sources say 1500
I'm interested in making your characters. Can we chat over dm?
I thought it was silent nerfed by having its price increased
... why do i think its 1800... which of my dms scammed me
I was just inquiring on the matter. I don't use AI.
How are you Ti? How is ur dragonlance game?
doing pretty good. dragonlance is going strong.
running i think almost 7 campaigns now
How do you prep so many games? 😭
- SKT: ragnarok
- titanic upheaval
- waterdeep menaces
- elemental succession
- dragonlance
- descent into avernus
4/6 are modules
i would have not survived writing 6 campaigns at a time
What is it?
Hi
howdy
Does anyone know if there is more games like Balders Gate in works right now?
Who is avernus and why is everyone trying to descend into them?
gotta pick up zariel from another day of killing demons
Solasta 2, but it's not gonna be Baldurs Gate.
We have no official word, but its safe to assume something is somewhere in preproduction rn. We have some other D&D games in the pipeline (notably Warlock which seems to be an action/adventure game) as well.
It's gonna be 5e24.
I will check that out, thankyou❤️🔥
I think I have seen Warlock been advertised somewhere, might aswell take a looksie, thankyou❤️🔥
Might consider getting it when I get a better PC/Steam Machine
It's not a Baldurs gate level game but it's solid for getting a dnd fix that's more accurate to the tabletop itself
Although probably my biggest issue with games like those is that I find it really hard to get into without friends
Warlock is an interesting one
I wish there was a dnd game that allowed to go up to Lvl 20
I kinda feel exactly the opposite. Its impossible for me to get into BG3 when playing multiplayer
i got two games that might reach level 20 in a few months
Cause the company behind it was the company that made DnDs worst game of the decade so far, however, they fired most of the people involved with that so clean slate means it might be good
A shame💔
Honestly it's best to take dnd games with a grain of salt
You have your Baldurs Gates, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale
yeah, for the most part D&D games are kinda stinkers
Then you have a very long history of games you likely never heard of, with a lot of them being bad
or just a bit older (planescape)
who wants to play Dungeon Hack guys!!!
good, incubus isnt here rn
DnD games are usually either knock out of the park or go to life in game prison
I mean if I could get the devs behind Balders Gate 3 to be the leading game creators for us I would be very expecting cause I loved that game
Nah that was never gonna happen, even if WotC and Larian had kept a decent relationship
Im tweaking for a Tier 4 campaign
Cause Larian wanted to go back to their own IP.
oh yeah, do we hav anything on devil deals?
aha
I am hoping Warlock is solid
Me too
I imagine it will get some flak even if it is tho
Cause I'm afraid Hasbro is gonna expect BG3 level success out of all the game projects currently in the works.
I have this hope that Warlock plays like the old God of War games. Like a 3d beat-em-up. Thats my dream, but I think itll prolly be an okay soulslike
Probably.
Soulslikes are the trend for those kinds of games rn
While I love those games (see: my name) I do wish they didn't replace the Adventure Game genre
Yeah it's getting tired
They're kinda like the zombie games of the 2020s imo
Back in late 2000s to mid 2010s when there was a bunch of Zombie IPs including big games with notable zombie minigames
sure is getting ominous in here
ok, is anyone else seeing like, nothing in the message
If Warlock is a decent beatem up, I could see myself buying jt
like, its just blank
If it's a soulslike it's gotta be good at least
Anyways, on a dnd note.
I need more dnd
Never enough dnd
looking through CoA rn.... there are so many artifacts
i need more waterdeep rn
Session rn
boooo
No you should run a session rn
oh lmao. its 12 32
true... more time to torture you all with
Fiendish Inspiration
for now... but the offer remains for all of Artanza's friends
Absolutely not I have just enough wisdom to know that’s a bad deal
There’s only one devil Hokrun is interested in a deal with
a dashing (cajun accented), dazzling and disguised drow?
2nd last session done the players loved it but are very sad
The bbeg is forcing them to fight their dragon friend/patron to the death after making him insane
It gonna be a sad session next week
They made him insane?
Pumped him up with a drug that put him in a frenzy
With all due respect, how is this a sad thing?
It is a dragon friend/patron after all
That they turned into basically a drug addict >_>
the villain did that
you misread it. the villain made their dragon friend crazy so they have to fight their dragon friend
Wait, so it was the villain that drugged them up?
Wonder if they can non lethal their way out of this one
Forcing them to fight to the death
So, might result in BBEG killing them off anyways, but worth a shot
Less guilty conscience, no blood on their hands
are there any examples of 2025 statblocks that inflict weapon mastery effects like vex or topple?
WAIT GUYS
if i cast shadow blade to make a shadow blade
and then use pact of the blade to bond it
does my shadow blade count as a pact weapon
cause the description of the spell itself states that its a "magic sword" which counts as a "simple melee weapon with which you are proficient"
a magic sword that is a simple melee weapon
should logically count as a magic weapon
so i can make a bond with it
Bro is cooking
I think the shadow blade only last for 1min and it takes an hour to bond with a magic weapon for Pact of the Blade, so I don't think you could do that
I was gonna say, your blade would run out long before you can bond with it
Hmmmm
in 2024 rules, bonding with a magic weapon takes 1 bonus action.
If i were to make Doofenshmirtz as an Artificer, what subclass would he be?
that is true.. I shouldn't assume editions I suppose. But thespell shadow blade still requires concentration and the blade would still go away in 1 minute, right?
Not only for the record but for posterity sake 😀 we just finished our intro session and every character survived 😮 😆
bonding with it doesnt use concentration'
but is shadow blade not a concentration spell?
also id assume by the wording i could like resummon it with a bonus action with the conjure pact of the blade
It would take over a turn to do, but I don’t see any issue with it so far
Granted, not 100% sure it’s a magic weapon, so imma have to check
it is, but the sword itself is just a magical sword which i could bond and reconjure with pact of the blade
also @glass granite , what if i just say that my character will resummon it every minute as the weapon that it is using pact of the blade, even outside of combat
The spell would run out after combat, it would no longer exist
You’d effectively be summoning nothing
wait, the spell lasts 1 minute concentration, and it says the sword will be gone when the spell ends, but it never says what happens if i summon it in another way
the spell calls it a "magic sword" but also calls it a simple melee weapon, so I think it would be ok. I'm just not sure what the benefit of bonding with it is
The sword disappears, what else do you expect?
it means i can use cha for its attack rollls and damage rolls
@glass granite the spell doesnt exist, and i conjured it, so the spell cannot end to get rid of it, but i have it
The weapon no longer exists, summoning it wouldn’t do anything.
file not found.. 404 Pact Error
pact of the blade says that it conjures it, and typically conjure means "create from nothing" and not "summon from somewhere else"
It can conjure a weapon OR bond with a magic weapon
if it aint against the rules explicitly it works
“As a Bonus Action, you can conjure a pact weapon in your hand—a Simple or Martial Melee weapon of your choice with which you bond—or create a bond with a magic weapon you touch”
Nothing here says you can conjure the magic weapon again
the spell specifically states the weapon disappears after 1 minute. In D&D usually a specific rule beats a generic one.
So while you can summon it and bond to it over 2 rounds, It would still only last for 1 minute with concentration.
A DM could fiat it I guess, but allowing a player to keep a spell forever seems very broken. Unless you want to concentrate on one spell forever, and every time you sleep you'd drop concentration anyway.
But using the Pact to up your ability to hit and dish out a little more damage is a cool use. I support that
it says it lasts until the spell ends, not specifically one minute
The spell ends in one minute
"Duration
Concentration 1 Minute" that is the length of the spell.
guys our cleric is getting to 30 ac solo
With our without the shield spell?
back to fighter it is
Unless it’s high rarity magic items
sheild of faith + heavy armour and a +1 to ac when below half hp
That’s still, at best, 23 assuming no magic items
yea'
Assuming a shield is equipped
sof cant be upcasted
Ask them. If they can’t explain it, then you might wanna look deeper into this.
should i just run a custom lineage fighter with gwm and pam using a glaive
thatll work quite easily
i trust him
Sure, that sounds fun.
Less so trust and more so I’m hella curious
how i feel at second level after obliterating 3 of the enemies my group was struggling to kill even one of in a reaction a action and a bonus action
If there’s a power imbalance, i recommend working with your DM and party to counteract that
Unless of course it works for your table
In my experience though, it doesn’t always make the most fun
yeah, it has to be magical armor?
Plate is 18 just standard.. with a regular shield, +2.. so 20.
Shield of faith which is concentration but 10 mins a pop +2 and then then +1 for when they are below half health.. so yeah, 23 situationally.
where is the extra 7 coming from?
What’s their species?
tbf its because the other players were busy trying to kill each other instead of the enemies and those who were trying to kill the enemies were rogues and clerics who at second level dont have much offense
like
If your party is friendly firing that’s another issue entirely
oozekin from helianas guide to monster hunting by loot tavern
life domain cleric as well if it helps
the sorcerer tried to set fire to the elf spellcaster who was on death saves
the rogue shot my fighter
the other fighter stabbed the spellcaster on death saves
Tbh surprised that the DM is letting this happen
I was expecting forge lol
With that AC
And I don’t have that book (third party I assume) so idk if it has AC bonuses. But I imagine not, and if yes no more than a +1
Any multiclassing?
i minmax to survive friendly fire
Yello
Yeah I’m lost
Gooood morning afternoon evening!
To you too
whats yalls favourite class (and subclass)
Elemental warrior monk
i love the battlemaster fighter
open palm monk purely for the 17th level feature
day 4 of saying building sized cats should be a thing both irl and in dnd
I like the monk class cause it has cool implications don't know much about sub classes though
yeah
what?
?tag new online
forge cleric is sword coast guide i belive old and not as popular a book but is offical
had a forge cleric npc on spelljamming crew game i was in their a pretty fun subclass
Wasn't forge in xanathars
I love a good Psi Warrior fighter as far as individual subclasses go, but broadly I love Paladins
Oath of the Watchers are a fun one lore wise
Ugh hate gate keepers
Guys, question: What title can the book in Forgotten realms have if it's similar to "Journey to the west"
i like battlemaster simply mechanically
Cool, good luck, but use #looking-for-players for better results
Honestly, I tend to enjoy the roleplay factor a lot
Chronurgy wizard!!!
same
If someone can give me a good build and I find myself some good source material, options are many
You get a fireball! You get a fireball! Everyone gets fireballs!
Valor bard
i love warlocks in terms of rp but i love battlemaster fighter in terms of mechanics too much
For now, I wanted to do a Gloomstalker Assassin
But didn't quite plan out to be a vampire spawn
I wonder if, in a future campaign, I could kind of make him like a version of Blade, in a sense
Just a lot more focused on sniping
im thinking of how i could make sinclair emil from limbus company in dnd
Question for chat
Between 2014 Fighter, Barbarian, and Cleric, which subclasses has good combat and roleplay connections with dark energy and how?
Think less evil powers, more necrotic
the oathbreaker paladin is pretty good necrotic powers
No. Paladin is an automatic no
what do you have against the paladins
Death or grave cleric
Possible, but this is between these 3
what pieisacake said
Their a what
Oathbreaker would have been very quickly chosen, but the roleplay elements would fall apart
Character I am planning isn't close to a deity, per se. But especially isn't in pursuit of an evil power
Hence why I asked among those 3 specifically
isnt cleric close to a deity
The spiritual guide barbarian would suit. Can't remember it's name
Yeah. Saw that part, so Cleric is out
between barb and fighter is hard
Death or grave domain
As for fighter, Eldritch knight, or anything that kills people
I would suggest Undead Warlock.
Zealot barbarian too
They can do necrotic damage I think
Also, Charecter building should really go into #character-discussion
And this
Okay, new question
Which martial class and subclass would mostly likely have the obligation to avenge the fallen
As well as extend that obligation to others who openly cause suffering for many?
Ancestral guardian barbarians work well
That's more of a roleplay thing. You can do that with any class.
does paladin oath of vengeance count as martial
I was gonna say, oath of vengeance is literally that
But also, I feel like this is #character-discussion
Insert the beaver screaming meme here
I'm wondering what a king would want from a low level party. Quest-giver wise.
But in all seriousness, it would be my pick, but I'm agreeing with Nugget that this needs to be a roleplay element
Well, Zealot does seem like a good idea. I just have a question
What exactly does it mean for bringing someone back to life, but not undeath?
Anything from low risk escort of a VIP, or "Go poke the spooky ruins with a stick."
Like as in necromancy? Well the corpses basically arent conscious of who they are, all they do is follow the resurecters commands
If my memory serves me right
It's the difference between Resureccting a person and Raising a Zombie.
Being specific, a feature for Zealot is that if someone casts a spell on you that has the sole purpose of restoring you to life, material components are not needed
One can live a life, the other rots in your general direction, stinks to high heaven, and tries to eat you.
He's a fat lout of a king who would rather be hosting jousts, tourneys and deep in his wineskins. Basically King Robert from game of thrones but with the fantasy elements turned up. Why would he turn to the pcs for help when he has dozens of loyal knights and others to do his bidding?
I would read that as revive/raise/rez spells don't need components.
Someone animating your corpse still would.
Ahh
That’s something to ask your dm, I’d say
Because he either needs disposable, or deniable mooks, or because everyone else is busy with important things. Or because he wants your group far, far from his Court.
Oh. This character will, hopefully, be for another campaign
Still, asking for rulings like this is DM fiat oftentimes
I mean, this is quite clearly stated in the Zealot's rules.
Either way, Zealot Barbarian seems like a good starting place for my character
In the sense that not many PC’s would be undead
Dozens of knights and others? He's told one of his followers to do it. But the follower has something more important to do, so had their steward find help. "By Order of the King!" they say.
This is sort of what I mean by my favorite classes mostly being linked to roleplay elements
Unfortunately, this has the risk of it rarely being the same as the vision in my head
There's only one official way to become undead, and that's to be killed and raised as a Vampire, provided th DM doesn't NPC-ify you from that. And it's a barely thought out thing.
Zealot barbarians do have some very nice roleplay potential, which is great
Obligatory "anyone can be a zealot" reminder.
Or in my case, Vampire Spawn
That's still a Vampire.
They can be, but the subclass does blend thematic and combat well
Considerably different things in terms of abilities
Being a gith wizard seems very useful since wizards are quite squishy
Fighter, second wind: "my faith gives me strength!"
I still want to do an Undead Warlock (Pact of the tome, for gift of the protectors) with a fixation on Deathward, for 3 "If you would drop below 1 hitpoints, you don't" someday, and just go all Monty Python's Black Knight.
Honestly, I would be using Zealot for the sense of a battle cry
And the "faith" elements are intentionally small
anyone in australia
Hi, Aussie here
So, I had a question about campaign searching
Best advice for someone who knows what they're looking for, but rarely has the time to filter through all the posts?
#looking-for-dm , probably
You tell people your preferences, and the DM comes to you
Great call. Won't let me type in chat, though
Type /looking-for dm and fill out the form
In here or the channel?
Here
The info is in #find-a-game , but I find dnd players can’t read so I just tell people now. Mostly.
Good to know

Could you clarify what you mean by “next game”?

That's an app right?
A site that also has an app - D&DBeyond is owned by D&D and provides a digital toolkit (and digital books) to help folks play D&D
at Glorp: no the app is still on the phone but you can still use comptuer to use D&Dbeyond I perfer D&Dbeyond because it's on mobile and computer.
that's good!
Also take a look at #learn-to-play and feel free to ask specific questions in #dnd-newcomers as you run into things
Also please don't post single-character posts (including reacts/stickers/emojis) as it's disruptive to chat and can be an accessibility issue for folks (think blind/vision impaired) using text to speech tools trying to follow the discussion. Feel free to use reacts/emojis/stickers in line with text or as a react to a post as that way's it's connected to text and the context can be better understood. Thanks!
or they could just read #rules instead
oh and by the way... I remember the last time that scrolls was important to most of magic casters.... I looked on youtube... to figure it out... read the dungeon masters guide... and there were a lot of stuff. The thing i'm trying to figure out how much coins should i place into a treasure chest?
whut?
I went to the Spells section in the Free Rules and did CTRL+F for scroll. Found everything about scrolls in no time.
well scrolls cost money... I don't know how much i should put stuff into a treasure chest.
wheres the treasure chest coming from?
in a dungeon?
oh as a dm question
yeah sorry
Ah, right! Need the chart for magic item costs. The value will depend on the rarity of of the scroll.
do they put money into the scroll to make the scroll a scroll? I just don't know how does a player do that.... so the in day of inscription. like how dose a player do that part?
Just use magic ink
oh wait i mean how does a scoll know it's complete.... when the matierals are consume... when does that happen?
do they have to roll arcana to complete the scroll or is it automatic?
Not sure what you mean
-
Are you asking how to cast a spell from a scroll?
-
When a scroll is finished being made?
-
Something else
technically both 1 and 2
Kosmus
yes?
Feel free to use #character-discussion to get feedback
they need special ink that is infused with gold powder, so in order to get the material cost requirement they need to A: buy the ink and B: put gold dust into it e.g.
Once you have a rough idea of the core game rules and mechanics (see sections 1 and 2 of the free basic rules linked to in pins in #dnd-newcomers) you can start looking for a group to play with.
To find a group using our Looking for Game channels, please read #find-a-game carefully.
which mr. smith already gave that one to me
ok so you do have to roll a 1d20 ok ok now i get it.
And as to making it, no, there are no rolls: https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/equipment#ScribingSpellScrolls
if the spell is higher right?
You did catch that you only have to make an Arcana check if the spell on the scroll is higher level than you can currently cast, right?
If the spell is on your spell list but of a higher level than you can normally cast, you make an ability check using your spellcasting ability to determine whether you cast the spell. The DC equals 10 plus the spell’s level. On a failed check, the spell disappears from the scroll with no other effect.
ok now i get it... right
If I go inside of the dragon and the wild shape into a dinosaur...
If it's within your capabilities it's just using the scroll for the free cast, rather than using one of your spell slots.
Like a really big dinosaur
right
then?
The DM will make a ruling. Most likely you'll just be ejected to the next available space, no harm done.
or nto even allowed to wildshape due to spacial constraints
If they're a fun DM they might let me Ant-Man out of it
Unfortunately I am the DM
Put it this way: if it were easy everyone would do it.
Ok besides actually getting inside of the dragon, what's stopping me
T&Cs of wildshape don't specify anything about doing damage, or what might occur if you try to take a form in an area with insufficient space.
Then what's stopping the DM
Of course if my Druid actually do that I'd let it, I love crazy techniques. If I meet a DM that is actively enforcing against those kinds of things i am blacklisting them from people to play with
Your table, your choice. Letting damage be dealt outside of listed effects is generally something I lean away from. Today's fun idea is tomorrow's tiresome exploit.
I'd say that the spell fails, you end up shifting into a creature of the same size as yourself and type intended or you both take force damage
welp i think i know what book i should get next... xanathar's guide to everything
Our cleric went totally offline and missing, so now I'm writing in-universe reason for my draconic sorcerer to turn divine soul overnight
hello
Turns out your Sorc's lineage is a holy dragon or something idk
So recently in a campaign my character did something that ended up violating his oath, and my DM changed my character sheet to be Oathbreaker. But now that I've read the subclass details, I don't think that's actually the right call.
DM change your chatacter sheet.... wait wut... is that even possible?
On D&D beyond, yes, as long as you're in their campaign link thing.
But anyway, the Oathbreaker subclass says the following: "A paladin must be evil and at least 3rd level to become an Oathbreaker."
Though my character is level 11, surpassing the level requirement, he's not evil. Yes, what he did would be considered as such, but one bad action does not instantly change one's alignment so drastically. Which means, he can't be an Oathbreaker according to RAW.
Oathbreaker is also what happens if you break your Oath. You lose your Paladin subclass stuff if you don't follow your Tenets to a reasonable degree. Though some DM's ignore that.
By then he was evil
It's the guy whose folly led to the dracorage. Good reason for bahamut to want to keep an eye on the descendant, ig.
i never knew paladins was such a hard class to play as.
In my case it was one bad action.
And it was pretty bad, though the context is important too
You don't automatically end up as the oathbreaker paladin subclass for breaking your oath.
it's the one "follow rules you chose" class
It's really not that hard at all. Just follow your tents which typically boil down to things like "Be charitable." "Be Bold and not cowardly.", "Follow the laws."
hello again
Usually, what happens is that you lose your divine powers for however long
Oathbreaker is when a Paladin betrays their own oath in pursuit of an evil power
Generally avoid being a psychotic murderhobo and it's very difficult to lose your oath.
the hardest part of being a paladin is if you have to break it many times since party is chaotic evil.
why does almost everyone have ! in their name
There's a simple solution to that. Don't be a Paladin in a party of Murderhobos. Because the only ones that fit in such a group is Conquest Paladin and Oathbreaker.
Alternatively, don't be in a party of murderhobos
what if the party attacks the hobos and if those enimes attack the paldin are you allowed to defend your self and still keep the code?
guys when did they add metamagic ?
It was there from the start of 5E
when was that?
2014
i dont remember that when i used my first sorcerer..
gestures at google for such questions
Update on the AI situation: my DM still loves AI
And that's fine.
I asked him what the great houses of Drow are in this setting since my character is a Drow. He sent me a sheet of paper, but it looked AI generated.
x'D
mandela effect kick in
Define "Looked AI generated"
He probably wrote the lore on the houses himself since he is a very good writer, but for some reason he felt like AI generating an old-looking piece of paper for the list instead of just sending it as plain text.
Paladins are the hardest class to play considerately and a little hard to DM for I'd say
Mainly an issue in the skill department
i should of known
???
It just did. It was obvious. If you want me to be more specific, it had random whispy strands of brown lines that didn't go anywhere.
guys anyone watched stranger things?
Paladins are pretty normal to dm for if you actually read the dmg (or any class for that matter)
yes i even bought the stranger things hellsfire club
So they sent you a picture of a paper with words on it, and not an actual physical piece of paper.
do u have eleven as a character
no
oh okay
He sent me an AI generated image of a piece of paper with the names of the houses on it, instead of a photo of an actual piece of paper or just text.
hhuuuuh
And you're miffed about them trying to be creative with digital ye olde parchment because...?
D&D is a fantasy based.... I use the maps for player characer.... Eleven is from the stranger things show but the story doens't say anything about the existing characters from the show. (besides monsters creatures)
My DM did that when I asked him what the great houses of Drow were in his setting, because this is a world that he created.
No, I'm disappointed in him using AI generated images for everything, including backgrounds, enemies, and even our own characters. He made AI images of the party's characters without asking us.
even if i run it exactly like stranger things.... i don't think my voice could handle all the screaming....
What should I multiclass into as a monk?
ok making eleven with free spells will be a bit hard
basically nothing until 18
Can be used well in some situations, but really sucks when constantly used
my eleven is now A wind user cuz theres no telekinesis or stuff
but ill imagine it as a telekinesis
Multiclassing should only be done if you've got a specific build in mind, or if you're trying to chase a specific flavor. Most of the time your'e just shooting yourself in the foot.
- you have to figure out what you want to do with the knowledge of what level this campaign will reach
- some classes tolerate multiclassing better than others
like looking at the monk class from a lv1 to lv20 perspective (unusually long campaign) i wouldn't want to delay my fists getting better damage die
if i know the campaign ends at lv10 i may as well say screw it at like, lv8 latest
also how does background work
guys what class has telekinesis wizard druid or cleric
refer to google to learn what classes learn telekinesis
um ok
but since you've already asked, wizard, sorcerer
whats grappler
It's a background, you pick one that fits, it gives you things like proffiency's and whatever else it says.
There's also the Telekinetic feat, which any class can take
There's also feats like "Telekinetic" that give you more
how?
A feat. For grappling. I presume you have the books. So, you can just look at them, instead of asking here.
i dont
Then have a look at the free rules, then.
You could at least look through the basic rules. They're free on DDB
Is there anything to look out for when searching for an online campaign?
Like any red flags I should know about
i dont have telekinetic feat
There's like a thousand flags of all different colors, and they are not the same for everyone
Mess around and find out, check in with yourself a well as others, some things just won't be for you, and some people will just not change
My personal main ones
- "First come first serve" -posts. Good DM is gonna at least get vibes of the potential players instead of just taking the first randoms, either via questions or an interview
- Taking in pre-made groups (This is mainly from a DM side of things). People tend to ignore things off their friends, and this has been an annoyance few times I've done this
- "Players can discuss the time" -posts. This is just gonna never happen, or when it does the games are way erratic in time, and often end up with players disappearing
- To some extent, heavily homebrewed games, like the DM attempting to modify D&D to fit certain media until the game barely resembles D&D, so for example you can use none of the classes / races etc.
Number 2 is so easy though 🥲
Good things don't often come in easy. It sounds easy and fun, but when the party is a group deal, you need to hope every one of them actually fits your game, so it's either all or nothing, or risk some players being not really fit for the group (to which I've fallen to, and learned a lesson)
And it can just be me being unlucky, but it's become a personal "red flag" for me, or more accurately just something I don't do anymore
It's worked out for me so far, but hey I might be lucky too.
Personally I'd rather just drop all the players than a single person
I'm happy to adapt the campaign and shorten it appropriately if it's not my cup of tea. To an extent...
I also feel that established groups usually have had their kinks mostly sorted out
And that's the thing. The group is all familiar, but the DM and any potential additional players aren't in on that, so if someone in the group is not as great of a fit for the game, the rest of the premade group might just have gotten used to it at this point where they don't consider it an issue
hmhm
Yeah I wouldn't add an additional player to an existing group, unless it was their rl friend that they can vouch for and help manage
Is the Avernus or any other outer plane you get to from let's say Greyhawk the same as the one you get to from let's Forgotten Realms?
If you want it to be yes, If you don't want it to be it dosent have to be. There's published references for both methods
Generically within the lore (as of 5e) yes
Question out of curiosity
When 6e rolls around, what buffs/nerfs would have to be made for Martial classes to keep up with spellcasters
I had the impression that a different setting is basically a nonexisting myth for a person in one setting like "yeah there is proof of existence of things like Feywild or the Abyss but different "home worlds"?" no names no people no contact apart from the most world ending entities like vecna
None, martials carry now
Good question honestly I don't really expect much but would be neat to see what WoTC does
And we're likely 10 years off from 6e
Weapon damage to scale off class and level could be good.
5.5e really that good for Martials, huh? Any smaller example?
5e has allways been good for martials, most folks just never ran enough encounters so spellcasters could just go nova all the time
I want this to happen if we ever get 6e
Hmmm
you said it best
Martials already are fine. legendary resistance/actions mechanics and such usually mean casters struggle against end game fights to do insta win buttons. late game casters are usually doingcrowd control for non elites, or protecting the martials anyways
I suppose that's a part of what my experiences have been too. I will make note of that if I ever become a DM
spellcasters aren't op, you just let them go off leash with their constant power naps
True
It's so easy to run a game badly where it seems like spellcasters carry.
I have more dead wizards ans sorcerers than every other class
Which also makes sense because of AC, D6 HD, and low Con
The thing with casters is that they aren't super good early on and tend to get carried by martials
Even discussing a hypothetical 6e like this is a bit silly because it would fundamentally be an entirely different system which makes the framing of this makes no sense
They can get overwhelmed quickly
Honestly I don't even want 6e even though it will happen eventually
I don't need a 6e that's for sure I need new campaigns for 5e, I have ran all the existing offical ones
6e has to be its own game fundamentally different, not an upgrade to 5e just a different game so you choose what you like and maybe play both
Eeh, wouldn't be so sure. We've had the same stats for ever, ability checks with a DC and the d20 since 3e, that feels like a pretty enduring core.
And yet, every edition has still fundamentally been very different
The balance between things in 1e vs 3e vs 5e is very very different
3.5 was a time when martials were actually terrifying with the right build. But the system had a lot of potential to 'build wrong' too
Core concepts remaining similar doesn't mean much in that regard
the one thing I would like in 6e is replacing spell slots with mana
They hit the sweet spot with 5e that allowed it go grow so huge. And without bloating with to many books like 3e and 4e
Spell Points has been and is a variant rule that still exists
Except for warlocks for some reason
but it's optional and it's janky
Shadowrun from 2 to 3 was a fundamental change. I don't see that in D&D 3-5. I'm just talking mechanics.
A DM can always add or remove goblins. I don't see game balance as a fundamental feature of the rules.
janky how?
Its like how pathfinder 2e has similar core concepts to 5e, but is also fundamentally a very different system (despite surface level appearances)
I want a spell that lets me pull out a gun from my hat and start blasting
eldritch blast (reflavored)
Eldritch bullets
Be a warlock. Learn eldritch blast. Use a wand as your focus.
The hat is up to you.
Question: What do Shadar Kais even look like? I looked at images of them but they all look different. Do they have white skin or gray skin? That is white as in plain white, not as in white human white. Do they have white eyes, gray eyes or entirely black eyes with no iris or sclera? Do they have hair or are they all bald?
features refer to spell slots, tables refer to spell slots, I want a game that was fundamentally built with mana in mind
Now we're talkin
From what I've seen they just seem to be elves with pale skin
Spell slots are still mana
They vary, but they're a monochromatic bunch.
They are a diverse people with a variety of ways They could look, generally pale
you literally just replace the word 'slot' with 'spell points' mechanically its not that hard
Okay but what about the eyes?
Can vary but a lot of official art depicts them with relatively normal eyes
Eye color is up to you
so many non human races have such wide ranges of eye and skin tones of even fantasty types that you could pick a combination and be mistaken for like 4 different races
that is just a 5e variant, if 6e is a thing it has to be fresh with new ideas of how magic is handled
Yes but I'm saying that 'mana' as an option using spell points exists. it's legally IN 5e and works fine. It doesnt need to be a baseline rule as the default
Last and most importantly question: are all Shadar Kai depressed? Because in theor species description it says they are the opposite of Eladrin and are while one is full of emotion the other is devoid of it.
My question here is are they really emotionless?
depressed is an emotion
No, but living in the Shadowfell can dull your sense of emotions, they probably have a hard time expressing themselves emotionally
Im back hello
Yeah I phrased it wrong I should've asked if they are all emotionless
Every shadarkai pc I have ever had in My games has bucked the trend and been their own person
urizt long time no see!
Hello Eleven
heyy
Say I have sentinel as an echo fighter, and a creature makes an attack against my shadow while I’m within 5 feet, does it activate my reaction attack if a creature attacks the echo? It specifically says target and not creature, so it should work right?
Well
The Witchlight carnival duo don't seem emotionless lol
I don't think Shadar-Kai are naturally "Emotionless" but living in the Shadowfell suppresses emotion pretty drastically
It's moreso an effect of the plane they live on than a Natural thing about them
Up to DM ruling. My personal ruling would be that your echo counts as being you, but others may rule differently.
Their best friend and mentor forced back into the nature he tried so hard to overcome, made to kill those he held most dear after losing all of his brethren to humans.
Well your echo is classified as a object iirc
Or construct, something like that at least
Sorry for late reply I didn't see since I didn't get @ed
It’s not considered a creature or a player
Bingo
And bbeg won't end up killing party as of right now since he he is very busy dealing with the siege of his city set up by the players. He fully expects the players to die to the dragon
Is Crooked Moon a 3rd party or homebrew? I need to ask so I know where to ask my question.
Yep, third party
All 3rd party is someone's homebrew,
including grim hollow
This article talks about that a bit.. at least under 2014 rules
I don’t see it mention the bit about the reaction attack, maybe that was added later in sentinel?
Does anyone know any free one shots ?
Dnd 5th edition
Where would I go to look for people to help me build my campaign that I am basing off Castlevania?
But honestly, putting "free dnd one shot 5e" into Google will probably find you a bunch.
Seriously ? Tnx
Hai twins
?
Salutations
Omg u have a Moth tag
?tag ddb claim
The following items on D&D Beyond can be claimed at no cost.
@maiden stump
Yes?
Some free adventurs in the post above the one I linked you.
Yup, it's a dm of mines server
His name is Ti-Moth
I love finding other moths
Oh dear I was just telling myself how beautiful u r that u tagged me lol
Tnx for the links
I wonder where that little rapscallion is now 🧐
What's the deal with "moths"?
What's the deal with Airline food?
What’s the deal with liches
We Are only the Best of the best
Whats the deal with the lack of new playtests that I beg for existing
One like just dropped a week ago
What's the deal with high level play
The best kind of Undead
Casters win
It's fantastic, but as a dm you gotta get good at doing it
Whats the deal with true strike
It's good in 2024
the 2024 version is really nice
the 2014 version is one of the worst spells ever printed
rust monsters are so underrated omg
Whats the deal with true strike 2014
Its a quite recent spell in 2024, it never existed in 2014
Its pretty decent though
whats the deal with find traps
They aren't. Just underused
feral tieflings get their +2 to dexterity instead of charisma
Doesn't exist
Very good against martial parties
Use them alongside Stone Warriors from PotA
it's so funny because they don't do anything other than damage metal gear
one of my party members is a warforged, he's kinda like a robot essentially, and he literally couldn't do anything without his AC getting nerfed so hard
I wonder if you can effectively disarm them with the rusting ability
What's the deal with the warlock pacts? 🥁
Sorry, the devil made me do it. 😈
Twice
Whats the deal with Mystra dying
What's the deal with forgotten realm retcons
I'm not familiar with DnD lore, is that the dnd equivalent of "So, nice weather today, huh?"
well my paladin character was essentially stripped from his armour and i had to do unarmed strikes, they're not aggressive unless there is metal around for them to consume
She deserved it
For some reason, no one wants it to be permanent
Whats the deal with Mystra and her chosen
Well it’s happened three times, to three different incarnations of her
is Mystra a bad person
Yeah but she keeps dying because people want to destroy/control magic
Note: not necessarily. The listing of feral tiefling on ddb is inaccurate, to say the least
Absolutely
I thought Mystra was a good guy
Lolth is a god fearing Saint compared to her
then again, I also thought Bahamut was a bad guy
She’s a neutral aligned deity and does shady things
I wouldn’t say she’s worse than lolth though lol
eilistraee better
That's absolutely not true lol
Eilistraee is best deity
Lolth has done way more horrible things than Mystra
I see the vision
If Eilistraee and Lolth got into a fight, who would win?
Well lolth has already beaten her once
Lolth, most likely
Eilistraee doesn't fancy herself much of a combatant it seems
Rather bested her
I'm spreading Midstra agenda
Has anyone read the spider queen series?
You mean the modules?
The books
Ah
The first two are quite good i though
Yeah, but they don't affect magic weapons or armor in the 5e version. At least in 2024
Funnily enough, I don't even think Lolth hates her Daughter
Lolth probably loves the fact that Her Daughter and Son both want to usurp her for different reasons
That's why Vhaeraun is her favorite child, because he seeks to do so through Trickery
So if an arena had an environmental effect where Magic Items are disabled, would it get affected by the rust ability
Too bad Vhaeraun isn't mentioned a bunch..
Lolths SON..
Lolth is a literal ex demon lord
The others were okay but I feel the characters were hard done by, not plot wise, but consistency
Selune and lathander are based
Lolth is still a demon lord
She wanted her dead though, but yeah, hate wouldn't be the right word
Read half of book 1 before I got lazy and took it back to the library, but the book itself was solid so far.
It's funny to me that
Tiamat...
A Chaotic Evil Deity
Is an Archdevil
A Lawful Evil kind of role
Doesn't add up to me, because Tiamat is actively a discordant being
It's hard to recommend the series as a whole
She doesn't CARE about order
Maybe forced obedience
Maybe, she's subservient to Asmodeus for whatever reason kinda (TM)
Tiamat is not an Arch Devil. She is a Dragon goddess who is trapped by contract from Asmodeus. At least this is what the lore is in 2024 anyway
She's an Archdevil.
You argued this a few days ago
She may not be considered one NOW i guess, but she WAS
Now she just a monstrosity
Whatever happened previously is irrelevant.
2024 isn't a different edition, lol
It adds on to previous 5e lore.
And fixes some things with it as well
Does Tiamat have two or three creature-type statblocks?
Just curious if a Tiefling can have it in its blood
Aah, ||she still controls a few layers around the 64~66ish||; ye, both a goddess and a demon lord then
Lolth has been referred to both as a Goddess and Demon Queen. All the way back to AD&D 1e. But unlike the Demons Princes, she gets to use the powers unique to gods from Deities and Demigods and other source material.
I have an encounter where the players have to find the boss while the boss attacks them, do any of yall have songs that don't feel like direct confrontation but do have like a feeling of anxiety and fear
But still for a boss battle
heyo
she has a type of fiend humanoid shaped dragon creature called abishi that found in all 5 colours of chromatic dragons
i belive the lore is their spawned from her blood but not sure
Mr x theme from resident evil 2
Actually, Tiamat's alignment being chaotic evil is a 5e thing. In every previous edition she was clearly LE.
Why the hell did they change her alignment? Smh.
Wait, she's CE now? When did that happen?!
I mean, I think alignment-personalities are overrated, but that's an interesting change
Multiple reasons. First off, some people still operate under the silly and ridiculous idea that CE is "more evil".
But the real thing? Some writers wanted to double down on the idea that she was a prisoner in the Nine Hells
That's stupid
That's also stupid 😭
Being chaotic alignment doesn’t reflect being a prisoner to the most lawful evil plane however
So, literally no good reason for changing her alignment?
Remember, that's what Tyranny of Dragons was meant to be about. When the people who wrote it conceptualized the campaign, the idea was not that the cult was summoning an avatar (it would not be worth all those efforts). The idea was that they were freeing her from her bounds in the Nine Hells.
There was no good reason for many proper changes and then wizards ordered all the writers to fix their mess ups like two years later
And there's another thing at play. In 4e, Lawful Evil was not an alignment
I mean, there's so many ways they could've depicted her being a prisoner in a place she didn't belong, I'm sure
Bear in mind, there's another weirdness to it!
then what was the alignment like back then
She was lawful evil in the PHB, but then her statblocks, whether in Tyranny of Dragons or in DiA or in Fizban's, were all chaotic evil.
WHAT
Basically: Lawful Good, Good, Neutral, Evil, Chaotic Evil. A slider
How the hell was it worse back then? 😭
DiA just copy pasted the Tyranny stat block to be fair. I think Fozbans did the same
No, the Aspect of Tiamat in Fizban's is a very different statblock from the Tiamat statblock in Rise of Tiamat
Then they simply referenced the old stat block and saw CE and kept it. It doesn’t even change anything about her or how she acts realistically so ignoring it is easy
Yeah, no idea why that would make her a Fiend either, it's not a very good way to take it imo either
I know Alignment doesn't matter, but I feel SPECIFICALLY for Extraplanar beings like Devils, Celestials, Demons and So on
It actually does matter because it's the whole point of their planes existence
yo im completely new to dnd any tips
Buy dice. Lots of dice. Different colors and materials of dice. All the dice.
Most of the rules for player/DM etiquette is just don't be jerk, acting in good faith on both sides for character creation and DM campaign transparency goes a long way
so just like a relationship?
ye
Split the party
?
jk, never split the party
(that's a joke, never do that lmfao)
Is fun when u do it the right way
what does that mean?
mostly because the DM could hate running two scenes at once
oh wait nvm
When you separate the party
Always check in, don't be afraid to check out
splitting up yeah that doesnt seem fun
When I was just dealing with a drunk bard while the other two of my party members were on a stealth mission, that was fun
And eat them
yeah, the real issue with splitting the party isn't "each group is weaker than the whole" imo. I think "there is only 1 DM" is good enough reason not to split the party.
Also, try every possible way of unlocking a door without asking if its locked first
Also, make sure you know what table you're playing at. When it comes to genre of the game your playing, or House rules and homebrew, if you don't know either you might have some friction with what your build can do.
so just look into the rules
i will absolutely do that
. . . Some of y'all concern me.
Oh, and open a chest immediately when you see it
no thanks
you never eated dice?
Me and another one my mates are a door worst nightmare
Do I look like Venture from the hit PvP Hero shooter Overwatch 2?
... maybe?
Anyway, technically not, because house rules and homebrew are specifically liberties individual tables take to make their game feel different
oh i get it
still, a base understaning of the game is good to have.
know the system before you break it or mod it
ya ive been trynna read and watch as much as i can about dnd
Yeah, and genre is also a part of knowing the table, playing at a table that likes gritty realism will be WAY different than a High Magic preferring table
We all eat rocks here.
What’s everyone’s favorite subclass
Which ones better to start off with
Homebrew or House rules?
College of Lore
Oath of vengenace
oh, and possibly Echo Knight
Like to hit things really hard
House Rules. They apply to everyone, Homebrew lets you expand your character creation options, which you already have plenty of new ones as a new player to start.
And 2024 made them even better
okay Batman
Circle of Preservation druid c:
except it's a UA still until we get news on the DS book >.>
Their the best snack
Opps
The dragon yearns for flesh
I always have a big bowl of dice for breakfast
War Cleric, Cavalier Fighter, Bladesinger Wizard, Glamor Bard..
Hmmm...
I'm sure I have more
Oath of the genie is starting to become my second fav subclass though
A dex base paladin sounds hmmmmmmm
It's becoming my favorite ngl
That one does look pretty interesting if it comes out I’d totally play one
My Glamor Bard was an Owlin fellow named Caspian Goldengale, I retired him to play a Thief Rogue, though
We’ve never had a Druid in our campaigns
otherwise Dreams Druid, College of the Moon Bard, GOOlock or Archfey Warlock, Swarmkeeper Ranger
accidentally sucked up an ice cube while i was drinking some apple juice and it shot into my throat
I'm playing it right now, it's so fun\
My favorite Druids are Wildfire and Moon
I like monk but none of the subclasses
Mystic looks nice though
Circle of Stars.
Mercy Monk is my favorite Monk :3
Circle of stars with cleric dips sound nasty
That things oozes flavor without being rigid.
Path of the totem warrior
stars is nice
pairs nicely with cartographer Artificer
is the Sorcerous Origin class feature the sorcerer's subclass
Circle of Stars with a few Dips into Life Cleric
Specifically the bear
But i will always hate them for making spirit weapon concentration in 2024
Oh, I've been enjoying Celestial Warlock recently
I'm very happy with it c:
it broke resource management and made tier 1~2 cleric overpowered vs druid and bard for damage
Hey, but War Domain gets it without conc at least
Now i cant have spirti weapon and spirit guardian at the same time “ angry face”
Again, you can with War Domain
Ill try it in the future
Me too
Spirit guardians is too good tho
Frontlining my beloved
Right now im going pure eldrick knight an is going even better than expected
War Cleric is my favorite Cleric because my War Cleric was an absolute unit
His name was Karkas, he was a Tiefling fellow and his Deity was The Doombringer, he had 7 resistances and killed a fair share of Devils and Even a Mummy Lord and a Lich.. he killed the Liches body twice!
My damage skyrocketed last session
What even is a lich
💀
Oh its a walking corpse
Im spamming booming blades left and right
... you know... Liches..
Like...
Vecna? Acererak? Aizalan?
I do now
How many times have they change vecna background now?
I knew vecna but i never knew what he was
Liches are a very powerful type of Undead Magic user
Wrath of the lich king
And very disturbing to look at
They're also some of very few undead that keep their minds and intelligence and they ACTUALLY choose to become undead through a ritual
Becoming a Lich is a very tedious process.
If one messes up, they could become a Boneclaw, which is a failed Lich bound to serve other evil creatures
Vecna is an archlich, he's a super powerful necromancer who has forsaken his own soul to live forever (at the cost of requiring new souls every day). In some worlds, Vecna is a god.
Cool cool
Acererak was Vecnas Student and he was a Cambion, not a human individual but the offspring of Demons
Cambion, not Cambodian
Oop, yeah lol
Cambodians are people from the nation Cambodia
Lich kinda reminds me of withers in bg3 ngl. In terms of looks
Acererak was also the first of the two approached to become the Deity of Liches, but he turned it down because he liked having his freedom lol
Smart move
Acererak is pretty damn cool, to be honest
He's incredibly powerful and could've become more powerful but he was like "Nah, I'll just do my own shit!"
If i was him id do the same. Having no freedom in exchange for great powers no good
Iirc correctly, Vecna was one of the Oldest Liches and Acererak became one when he found out how Vecna became one, which is why Vecna is now a god of secrets
Too many betrayals as a "mortal"
idk even know how to summarize Vecna's history. He kills all of Mordenkainen's coworkers, he tries to destroy the city of Sigil and take the throne from the Lady of Pain (he fails completely), he wrote the Book of Vile Darkness, he was defeated by his lieutenant Kas The Bloody Handed, he sought the Rod of Seven Parts to destroy the multiverse
I mean, I understand why Vecna was upset when Kas betrayed him
But Acererak was literally a demon, how didn't he see that coming? 💀
For an insanely smart guy, he's not really smart
Sure as hell sounds like an idiot
You forgot the part where Vecna was a Domain of Dread lord for a period of time
