What?
I guide others to a treasure I cannot possess
isn't Blood Hunter critical roll?
I am too its just i used to play stupid in my early campaigns so i rerolled multiclassed characters often lmao
You played 4 classes though
Bro... flex the muscles and do an intimidation so hard the guards dont try to rat you out
I've played every official class 🧐
Very cool
I'm planning to do that too, so far bard and ranger
I'm debating playing a hobgoblin bard if I can get the chance
Even played Psion although it's still in the testing phase lol
"dm i use my intimidation to roll for stealth."
Play my homebrew machinist next campaign
yes but alot of the community accepts it as rangers emo cousin
My current character line up is:
Rogue, Barbarian, Fighter, Wizard, Cleric and Warlock 🧐
I have never heard of Blood Hunter before
It was a class made by Critical Role
its very edgy
Isn't that just an Artificer
Hey everyone how's DnD been?
Nah it's a noncaster, you'll see
Ah, I don't watch them
The only third party classes I'm interested in are Pugilist and Accursed lol
Alright looking forward to it
Same
It was a class designed by Matt Mercer for a one shot for Vinn Diesel to promote his movie. Matt decided to flesh it out a tad more and gave it out for free
I'm more interested in homebrew subclasses than classes tbh
my dm canceled our session for over a month because 1 player had exams. we werent even done with session 1 and we were still in a combat scenario
It's fairly clunky in parts, which is Matt's MO
I don’t watch CR campaigns. but the animated show they did is GREAT
That sucks I just had some DND last night
Damn, I mean my campaigns have long breaks due to my exams and they don't usually die from em
I have a session 0 sequel tonight
Session 0.5?
To get the new PCs made and deliberate on how to introduce them.
my exams just lined up with yours
If you took a break before finishing session 1, you can just start again though. Thats not a campaign to be killed yet
damn, the same list than me honestly
yeah, we told the dm we can just go on without the player since it wasnt anything important, but he was insistent that we wait for him, but we've already been waiting for 2 weeks at that point, and we apparently had to wait 2 more weeks, so everyone quit
I’m spinning up a new 5e campaign in a couple weeks my current group
Hopefully session .75 is better
Had played a bit of ranger, wizard and a bit of cleric and lot of fighter.
After tonight I'm gonna start recruiting for my 3 other games I'm starting
i have in my list a paladin, a warlock and someday a wild magic sorc
I just want to be a player for once in a campaign
Honestly I want to try every class at least once.
Though I'm not looking forward too much to rogue
thats why im here
I'm loving my rogue
I've been working on my campaign got some maps done Now I just got to make them digitally but I won't be back to my PC till Feb 1st
alright in 2.5 hours I'll be a rogue in a session
I'm debating if I want to try adding a 5th player for my next campaign, not too sure
Only 1 more level for my Rogue and then I become truly unstoppable.
I've never played a rogue before, what's it like?
I've got 7 players in mine I'm a well fed DM
Move around, hit, roll funny numbers
7 is too much
You chase advantage and are really solid outside of combat c:
really? I have a hard time babysitting three of my idiot friends
rogue has a solid mix of being good in all 3 pillars
I had one player ask me for a 5e campaign. I told like two other people. And now I think I’m somehow at 5-6
same, rogue is something i would try but because i want to adapt a character from a game i love, Slay the spire
The silent
Next level my rogue gets prof in wisdom and Charisma saves so I'll have prof in all saving throws except strength ones.
i think the largest ive been apart of was a AL campaign with 10 players and 1 dm
Versatile! In combat I usually play it like how people play monks, except you don't go back for multiple strikes
Its one of those classes that gets a shoot ton of movement
it was like being in school lol
Rogue honestly just seems boring
Love playing a "human"
That in theory would be a Rogue arcane or an Assassin 2024
I'm playing thief and it's nice to actually be able to use adventuring gear regularly in combat.
2024 rogue has so much tech now i cant call it boring
I've been working on a high difficulty campaign for them 7 is enough
See that’s too big for me
It's gonna get much worse for the dm I play my rogue with
Honestly that's part of what makes it boring for me.
It just does too much
ooh my lobster too buttery
Cause once we hit level 17, my sneak attack dice can only roll a minimum of 3s
tbf with AL it's more a rotating cast, so they likely only ever had 4~7 people playing at a time, but drawn from a pool of 10
Due to my subclass
Add more lobster
Ah. Ok. That makes sense
The bbeg when I crit him for 24d6 and 20 of those are a minimum of 3
as a non-rogue player... what
I used fireball last night and killed like 8 plant monsters And might have started a forest fire it's okay it wasn't me it was the cultists
High level rogue is hilarious
Oh yeah I've watched this skit of someone running Level 20 combat and said "The Rogue did 500 damage and didn't roll a single die"
Also I have a vicious dagger which has an additional 2d6 attached. So when I crit with it, it's 2d4 + 5 + 18d6 currently
"But your honor no one told me fireballs that effective its not MY fault"
wizard who gets in trouble with a city government for starting a forest fire (they cast fireball)
rogue gets 10d6 sneak attack damage c:
assuming like a vicious weapon or something, which then all gets doubled
When in doubt blame the people that died so they can't defend themselves
The detective has speak with dead...
so (base damage + 10d6 + 2d6)x2 + mod on a crit
Drats
My rogue regularly puts out like 40 to 50 damage usually without crits its pretty fun.
darn so it can nearly kill my level 8 character in one move
And DM gave me a manual of quickness so I'll be getting an extra hit and extra damage mod point sometime soon
I ran lv20 combat earlier. Echo, you remember me beating up that fighter for no reason?
Which will help as I had a couple 1 below AC misses
It was fun, honestly. He put up a good fight.
The funniest part tho will be when we hit level 20
Cause once per rest Rogue can just choose to have a 20 on any d20 roll so I can just autocrit
I've been playing wizard lately it's hard to DM when I don't have full PC access
And one thing I believe I've forgotten a few times is critting with the piercer feat adds another die of damage
Gonna be fun just to instacrit Vecna offgate
Nealen when I say Vecna takes 134 damage to start the combat
"You mortals can just do that?!"
Me when I won't reveal my secrets to the God of Secrets
Vexna when he realizes he's not the main characters 😮 nuh uh that's not fair
That's prety solid c:
Vecna realizing it was his Eve of Ruin all along
my silly druidlock averages ~42dmg per turn without use of her subclasses or spellslots in tier 4
😄 poor litch man it's okay he comes back but after that he will realize that was a terrible mistake
What am I, on the Eve of Ruin? Credits cut to black with Linkin Park What I've Done playing
Looking forward to seeing what characters the new people make
Is an attack a d20 test? I thought those were two separate mechanics, technically
Nevermind. Just read the part that explicitly states that it’s a test
I'm running a NE wizard necromancer subclassed death claric warforged
Whats everyone’s favourite necromancy-involving subclass
d20 tests are Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, and Saving Throws
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/playing-the-game#D20Tests
Yeah. Thanks. I see that now
I like death claric duel casting necromancy cantrips is great
Spores druid maybe
desperately needs an update though
Its still UA but its easily Reanimator Artificer
Reanimator is crazy cool
-# it's straight up just the Grimhollow artificer
hey guys i’m gonna play dnd with my college’s club soon but i’m not very experienced, will i get blasted if i go monoclass bladelock?
if they blast you for choosing normal options from the players handbook, that is not a great table to be at
Mono class bladelock? What’s that?
sorry i meant blasted by creatures xd
just get moderately armored and you should typically be fine
Single class characters are often stronger than their poorly built multiclass friends
any one can get blasted down
speaking of warlocks... time to make a level 10 GOOlock
Multiclassing is a very easy way to make a character weaker
sweet thanks friends
multiclassing is a good way to make a character really funny
You've reminded me I need to make my '24 MADness character, for @fossil hollow
New to DnD and I’m wanting to learn more about DnD Beyond. If I subscribe, will I get access to all the character creation options? I just want to be able to have everything available to create whatever character I want, and not just what is in the players handbook.
I hate you
please do tell
The subscription doesnt get you books or character content
no, to get access you have to spend hundreds of dollers on all the books
no you'll have to buy the books still too
To get access to more character creation options you need to buy the digital books
So if you buy the players handbook, you get content from the players handbook
no subscrption is required
https://www.dndbeyond.com/characters/122279161
Here's the '14 version
get that thing out of my sight
In my opinion, DDB is not really the best option out there for what it is.
However, regardless of whatever VTT you do choose, you still have to buy the books separately.
uuuuuuu struggling so hard on a cleric domain 😭
its changeling too lmao
tempest....
You including 3rd party stuff or no?
Do you know what god you’ll be picking?
That's how it all fits narratively lol
nah, no third party.
Also, huh, im not seeing Tempest on my list...
... That would be piracy. And thats how DND has worked for the last 50 years
If you dont got the books, you dont got the content.
my meta character was a warforged that was designed to be the perfect weapon and was discarded when they found out 1 level in each class kinda sucks
Also my personal favourite domain is probably life (I’m basic I know)
Same. Noodling on War or Life rn
War is also great
Tempest is fun for bonking, life is fun for healing
yeah, im not seeing tempest on my subclass lists for some reason..
WAR FORVER RAAHHH
War is fun for inflicting painnn
Because it's a business that has employees who make a product that millions of people enjoy who deserve to be paid for their labor.
I like every cleric domain tho, they all have something to add depending on the god you’re choosing
might go with trickery, screw it
heard not so good things from it, "too much damage" kind of thing
There's no official wiki.
Tempest is amazing for certain gods
again. sites like that is piracy. There is no official "wiki" that hands out the paid content for free
Tempest isn't in the 2024 phb for some reason
Whacking people with the power of Zeus? Iconic
Oh i have 2014 legacy stuff turned off lol
Umberlee didnt want to renew their contract that bi-
thats why i cant see Tempest or Nature
Nature Cleric is awesome
not my thing unfortunately
All clerics are awesome honestly
spike growth everywhere like it's hot sauce
The basic dnd rules and classes are free to download officially, just not the in depth material
What is a monoclas Bladelock?
Me finding out that umberlee isnt a pickable god in bg3: 😕
Life cleric Ancients Paladin is a crazy support
I love ancients Paladin
Well... youre in the official dnd server, and piracy is against ToS and server rules...
Smiting enemies of nature
Update: I still think it would be really funny of the entire celestial plane just spoke Dutch
Pact of the blade warlock, but only warlock class
A) they do care
B) you should care too. I refer back to my point earlier - real actual people make this content. Do you not think they deserve to be paid?
i have a kuo toa character in my character doc that is a tempest cleric storm sorc
Also; I only multiclass if it makes sense for the character. I’m not into minmaxing
Learn Dutch
Unironically not a bad idea. Learning another language is always a good idea.
Oh yeah I tried to learn French and it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done and I have a master’s degree
I feel like a retired lich would be fun.
Just yelling at the players to get off his grass, waving a cane while reading the newspaper
hey besties
vecna:
REAL
The hand of vecna is just one of those grabber tools
I want to play a wizard who says thing like “all wizards born after the second sundering can’t cast spells. All they know is fireball, cantrip, copy they scroll, counterspell, get a netherese orb stuck in their chest, and die.”
Add another artifact, the denture of vecna
Here's what I'm thinking of implementing into my campaign: an angel who's been trapped for centuries and lost all his manners because he spent too long away from his God and couldn't stand it
good luck playing a wizard, theyre fun
AASIMARS FRRR
What subclass?
I like playing wizards 😎
I love oathbreakers
War
i played one in a one-shot, and found it hard-
Also, people act like divination wizards aren't kind of insane
Hmmm. What subclass fits the “grumpy old man” aesthetic the best
Not an Aasimar, an actual 100% real genuine angel. He just developed anger issues.
huh, yeah
What is it good for?
if youre lucky theyre the best class in the game
blood domain is fun
An extra attack
Oathbreaker is probably the least interesting paladin subclass to me.
Why do you love them?
ahhh okay
uuuuu... im eying Trickery RN... but war is always so tempting for Steelwind...
The least interesting Paladin subclass imo is crown
cant use Tal Dorei, and not a fan of Mercer's blood stuff
fair enough
I want to play an oath of vengeance paladin who seeks righeous vengeance on all who pour milk before cereal
WHAT
play twilight cleric
I like the idea of going against your former oath for selfish reasons, cool shadowy powers
im playing one in a campaign, and ITS FUN
just wanted to ask, becauseits hard for me to find anything abt it, when we look for games to join, do we just message them on the thread abt joining? oris there other stuff we need to do? because i saw a few saying we needed to send out chaacter sheets?
Do an oaht of vengeance against a 6 finger duelist that killed your father
Some you message in the thread, others will ask you to message them directly with information they requesty
Grave Domain?
too slow
Call yourself Indigo Montana
ah ok
thank u
yeah, something like that
Forge?
... not feeling the blacksmith vibe 😅
Might just go with trickery, i wanna do a charlattan again
Festus Domain cleric from Griffons saddlebag is really cool you basically worship a deity who just likes eating lol
I know I've already asked this before but... do you think it is possible to have a monotheistic universe in D&D?
hi
hey
Yeah why not
All things are possible through the DM
That's me in this case
The DM can make a world with no gods if they so desire
But then this begs the question: where do clerics get their powers from?
Yeah, Ao could be the only Deity lol
He's such a chad!!!
Or in this case, how can there be multiple domains without multiple Gods?
reverence of a concept, repurposed sorc powers
What if in your particular world they get it from the land, from nature?
Or just belief alone?
Brother. I have already written the God of my universe. And his name is not Ao.
Well, perhaps this Deity rules over all domains
But, Clerics can also get their power through Devotion to a concept
The same god. Which they worship in different ways.
their cleric abilities are a manifestation of their belief in a concept for which they subconciously suppressed their sorc nature
Maybe this God represents all the domains
my godess of my world is just... yes
Pretty easy question.
A tempest domain cleric who gets their power through a devotion to lightning mcqueen
Kachow!
guys did you know that mercantile bard can duplicate a single gp when it rolls a 20 on a hit? (Mercantile Bard quota pushed for the day)
why is that so real
Something Something
Hikari Domain Expansion
Also, there could still be legends ofm powerful creatures that aren't technically gods that they could gain powers from
sth sth 4m 11s
Same place any cleric gets their powers; faith. In this case, they might just focus on one aspect of that god. iirc, Game of Throne's main religion had aspects of the same god for different things
"He's immortal for 4 minutes and 11 seconds, if I can just get away, I'll survive... Ha! Is what a coward would say! This is gonna be FUN!"
In this universe the doctrine of this god prevents the worship of any other god. Like the biggest monotheistic religions irl.
The seven were seven different gods, I thought
Ti, when are you gonna have a giant call Lockpick "Cat Food"?
ive always heard it was different aspects of the same god
tuca donka plays
Though they could worship the god's holy warriors who have acted in service of said god before, or draw inspiration/faith from them
Googled it - you're right
yippie!
I was thinking of those but maybe wasn't sure: there are other gods but they are very very weak because no one worships them anymore, since the main religion is so prevalent and the worship of other gods is banned
But yeah - gods already span multiple domains in dnd
giving them all to one god who represents everything is not out of the question
Yeah, the god could simply span all domains as well
There's no reason a monotheistic God wouldn't be able to fill all of them
-# aforementioned IRL religions do that anyway, if you were to try and translate it
Yeah that's what I was trying to replicate. I wanted to make it "realistic" (whatever that means).
I did basically say this in my original response lol
dont fous on realistic. Focus on grounded
consistency is much better than trying to be realistic in a fantasy game
A story only needs to make sense narratively, not logically.
Make a story that makes sense to you
Yeah that's what I'm doing Zephyr
Ello
If you can make the single god exist in a way that covers all domains and you find to be reasonable, use it
plus, youre making a god. Theyre the ones who decide what realistic looks like typically. Theyre the ones deciding the rules
Thing is, he's a good God, so he can't cover evil domains
I have a question. Where can I get more roles?
theres not really any evil domains
Death is just a constant factor of life.
No domain is inherently evil.
Interesting
What if the god was just pure neutral as a unifying force rather than a personified being?
Nice profile picture
Thanks, it is Duke of Wellington.
What cleric domains are evil?
How can I get the role of a player or DM?
Also, in order for good to exist, evil must also exist.
id argue a few of the grim hollow domains are evil but thats par for the course in the setting
I have never believed that.
death domain XD
thats third party, assume only official
Here's the thing: he is seen as good, but is he really. He never shows himself, never speaks to his followers. Maybe something 's happening here...
Strange I don't have it
It's not inherently evil though
scroll up
There is a second god, who is evil. But the goal of the campaign is to destroy the cult of this evil god.
Yin and Yang exists for a reason. In darkness there is light, in light there is darnkess
Oops, no more monotheism
those are just metaphors
yeah... thats no longer mono
Definitionally, to know something is good you need a thing to compare it to.
Ergo, for good to exist so must evil.
good and evil also isn't black and white. In some cases they are subjective
oh boy
Despite me disagreeing with the premise of your statement, what you said doesn't alter what I said.
I never said it did
She's like the devil of their religion, they are not allowed to be seen as a god.
Sure. But you called them a god.
So... not monotheistic.
I can say my profile picture isn't that of an eye.
But it is.
The aftermath of a adventurer party that went a little too crazy.
If something is Worshipped as if its a God, then its most likely considered a God, most Archdevils in D&D are Deity status too, so...
a lot of them are cults though
Though devils do exist in real life religions without being classified as gods. If homebrewing your own DND world you can make that distinction
Death Domain is from the 2014 DMG.
You can have the distinction, of course....
Join the evil devils side /joking
yee, i was referring to the mention of Grim Hollow domains
You say cult, I say tax write off for my magic item rugpull scheme.
Having a monotheistic religion in your setting is different than having a setting with a singular god.
Which is it you're going for?
Also another useful term for this- Henothiesm. Worship of one diety, while acknowledging the existance of others.
What are you trying to say about the culture in your story with the religion they well, practice. A pantheon, the ethos, all that is a reflection of the culture the religion was born out of.
TIL
Thank you. Didn't know about that word.
(also another useful term for D&D is 'Alatrism' the acknowledgement of the existence of dieties, without the desire to worship any of them.)
Hmmm, whose y'alls favorite Deity/Deities in D&D?
I've got a soft spot for Kelemvor and Ilmater
Using only official stuff as reference... Helm. Strictly because he killed Mystra.
Bahamut
is it because he's in Final Fantasy
Elistraae and Bahamut
I am not answering this question at this time.
I have not read enough DnD lore to like a deity
Illmater and Red Knight
Ah, yes, Helm and Cyric are awesome because they killed Mystra, I agree 🧐
yea illmater is my favorite
I make up my own lore too much to know what any deity has actually done
Mystra said let me speak to the manager. Helm said I am the manager
i like shar
Mystra is also cool although she has all kinds of baggage
I plan on making a Life Cleric of Ilmater soon and flavoring their healing as transferring the Wounds of others unto themselves
What deity doesn't?
She was also mean to my favourite magic boot disposal wizard so
Hmmm, maybe a Goliath or Orc Cleric of ilmater, I feel they as a species would be tough enough to take the pain of others 🧐
ENDURE!!! Insert Flexing Goliath here
channeling the wrath of Illmater's hurt to take their own
Eilistraee
I just like Her style.
Song, Dance, Swords
Building coalition between people of all species who are good.
ok, finished my Tengu Crown Paladin
I also like Hoar, The Doombringer as well,
I like the idea of a Deity that embodies Vengeance in an "Eye for an Eye" fashion
argg i’m so conflicted between bladelock or eldritch knight for a witcher inspired character (without using 3rd party >.>)
Have you considered Monster Slayer Ranger?
Flip a coin!
IMO, witchers are more EK
If you want a character who is an expert in monsters and know their weaknesses, Monster Slayer Ranger is pretty great. Rangers are also gishes as a default.
Hunter has most of MSR's stuff now, no?
No, just one thing.
Witchers don't meet the power level of dnd past level 10 in my opinion
yeah, but vibe wise, theyre more like EKs
Hunter has the learn their resistances and vulnerabilities thing, but Monster Slayer still has a lot of innate antimagic and other countering type abilities.
ic ic... been a while since i looked at MS
And weirdly, it's anti-Grapple feature stays entirely relevant even with the Grapple changes.
hmmm now i’m considering EK or ranger, although when I looked up monster slayer everyone was saying it sucked
It does not suck.
it was just.... overshadowed
during those days... Gloomstalker, Fey Wanderer, Beast Master, Hunter, and Drakewarden stole the flair
Gloomstalker was legitimately overpowered, but also in a way that was catered to optimizers. Monster Slayer is balanced, between offense/defense and combat/non-combat.
Drakewarden isn't even that great, it's just people really like having dragon pets.
yeah, they stole the flair
Slayer's Prey, the 3rd level Monster Slayer feature, is a resourceless version of Tasha's Favored Foe that takes no concentration and stacks with every other damage option.
I think Monster Slayer is really quite well designed.
Slayer's Prey also eventually gets some really neat defensive options as well.
The people who say this are the ones who white room scenarios and don't treat the game as a group game.
yeah. I saw two fighters (one of them was multiclassed to Warlock albeit) deal over 200 damage each to a beefed up Yeenoghu just yesterday
Bloodshed Blade should be legendary
Fighters are good at fighting, yes
Champion goes hard when you can pump 16 Hit Die into your crits
I mean... when else are you gonna use them in a one shot
I need to know what do u call what a rouge does
Red.
what
Rouge makes things red.
In French? I think.
Yeah, Red in French is Rouge
Rouge is also a pigment used to redden the skin.
But pigs are pink not red
Um wow I would’ve said rouging but that works
Do you happen to mean rogue?
They certainly did and I was mean.
Half rouge half wizard
the Rouge Rogue painted the town Rouge
Rogue is the D&D class and another word for thief
Rouge is the french word for red
It's a pretty common spelling/lexigraphical confusion we don't need to mock it every time it comes up
Wait, no.
The rogue Rouge Rogue painted the town Rouge
rangers sound really exciting, could a ranger use a longsword and make it work? or are longswords locked to str?
So... a Tiefling wizard?
Longswords use strength but, rangers can use strength just fine
Longswords are locked to Str, but Rangers can also be Str focused.
I don't think it should be mocked but I do think it doesn't hurt to offer simple clarification
Rangers aren't required to fight from a ranged distance.
They're perfectly fine at close distance combat
Ranger similar to Park Ranger
I meant I play rouge half the time and play wizard the other half I’ve only played a paladin in a one shot and a ranger That died in session one because he tried to use an arrow to melee and then I made a rouge for that campaign
tbh its hard to "ruin" a ranger
doesnt hurt, also not asked for and unprompted
-# at this point it feels like they're doing it on purpose...
Yeah, it already ruined itself! /joking
you ruined my punchline
Cope
xD
You could always use a rapier, which does 1d8 damage (like a longsword), but has finesse so you can use dex for it
smokes Wizard pipe thats a word confusion I haven’t seen in a long time
So... not multiclassed?
maybe more like 2 different chars? thats kinda what it sounds like to me
Just so you know, the D&D class is "Rogue" the G comes before the U.
No but wait that would be cool
just play arcane trickster for a rogue with wizard spells
I remember back in the day in the warrior cats fandom people would mix up rouge and rogue a lot
would a Rogue using two daggers be effective at combat?
what
I know I type so fast i spell wrong
Playing two different characters in the same campaign is commonly frowned upon.
Sorry just read daggers one too many times
i mean, why wouldnt they
That's .. very consistent misspelling there.
Yeah, probably
Because you killed him!
imo rogue/wizard and arcane trickster arent quite the same thing. arcane trickster primarily focuses on illusion type magic
I've never done two weapon fighting
shush, you didnt use actual Daggers
Sure, your main source of damage would be your Sneak Attack rather than the weapon damage, anyway.
I used emotional damage daggers
yeah, not actual Dagger daggers
-# soulknife, for those who don't know the background
ah I see
cant wait to see your mutated druid throw down in the ruins
i like rapiers a lot so that could work :D
i did, its good
its more damage sacrificing a shield, being a fighter let you do 2+1 or 3+1 attakcs and if you have good weapons that let you deal tons of damage
Sadly i was using a club and dagger in that moment and dealt....okeyish damage
but do it with a shortsword better, will help you more
There's also the shillelagh cantrip, which lets you turn a Quarterstaff/Club into a bigger one that uses your Wisdom mod for attack and damage rolls and a d10 for damage. Very fun on a Ranger
(because it means you don't need to sack your casting stat to be good in melee)
I just had the dummies/funnyist character idea
Hey, so asking here instead, anybody got tips for RPing a Deaf character?
Be rinhard from overwatch
Oh, too loud? Did not actually clock that. Good idea.
if you have a familiar, you could flavor it in a way that it can act as your voice, a concept I got from ToH
Most of the Deaf people in my life have learned to read lips to gather meaning from spoken words.
Do you know sign language?
Have you considered givign them telekinesis?
ive got a question?
Irl no. In game, one of the languages I chose
better to ask than ask to ask
(I can prob prepare a few just for this character tho)
They're gonna be a Ranger (My homebrew one)
What species?
So when weve used up all our spell slots, whats stopping us from just taking a long rest right after to regain them
Potentially being ambushed by enemies
If you're in a dungeon or travelling, long rests aren't often an option since there may be enemies nearby
ahh that makes sense
A long rest is 8 hours. If you stop in the middle of a dungeon to take a long rest, there's a chance a monster could stumble across you sleeping and you would be completely caught off guard
Your DM and campaign pacing
"you may not rest now, there are monsters nearby"
Haven't decided yet. Not sure how to connect the reason I decided they're Deaf (we're one Ebberron and they can hear the departed, so when the land of mourning happened it blew out their eardrums and does so against anytime they try to get cured) to what race they are
Maybe Kalashtar?
Mournland... mostly humans iirc, before the disaster
If you want telekinesis to make things easier, there's always thri-kreen
can you wake up from a long rest, and if you can, did your remaining hp progress or do you have to complete a whole long rest
How would that make it easier? (I'm not drawing the connection lol)
You have to complete the full Long Rest to get its benefits
bruh
telepathy, not kinesis
reading again since it was confusing, why would you not be able to wake up from a long rest? Only 6 hours of the 8 needs to be unconscious
also in my current campaign theres a lake that lets you gain 5 hp, how many times are we allowed to go back to that lake ? (it doesn state)
Ah. Why I was thinking Kalashtar. Monstrous races my DM decides come from a certain country, so I would be connected that somehow if I chose Three-Kreen . . . Hm. I do love Thri-kreen though.
2 primary things: Random encounters interrupting your rest (and thereby extending or cancelling it) and that you can only LR 1 time per 24 hour span.
That';s a campaign specific location and something only your dm would know
so like if you Long Rest in a dungeon, enemies might interrupt your rest. If you do 1 encounter, Long Rest, then do a 2nd encounter, you couldn't rest after that.
its in the heroes of the borderlands set (im only level two ive started playing for 2 months) and weve been to the lake 50 -60 times already
level 3 sorry
ok, ask your DM then
sounds a bit like i would be giving you guys metagaming information or spoilers
ahh alright then
That might be adventure spoilers as well so not allowed outside of #1029833015423143957
thanks for the help @fossil hollow
I've never read heroes of the borderlands.
But now I'm thinking it would be fun to include a lake where the players can go to heal 5hp whenever they want, but all the HP they restore from said lake is then added to the BBEG's HP at the end
What wizard subclass do you take for a reptomancer?
what is a reptomancer?
... stealing
Talking with reptiles n shit
Ahh, I don't believe there is a wizard subclass that allows talking with animals as it's main feature. You could play a wizard that's a Yuan-Ti though
Session 1, everyone is failing their insight check, I think we're missing out on a lot of lore
Druid or Warlock I think is your best bet for that
Or ranger
What channel is for asking questions i have some small ones
Look at #channel-guide to find the most appropriate channel for a topic
Have you considered passive insight like how there's passive Perception. Just keeping them to the side.
It has saved me so much hassle
If a DM wants to give out lore, they shouldnt lock it behind a check
It's a mistake a lot of new DMs make
Plot important information being locked behind a check can derail entire stories
If you want something to happen, just make it happen and don't lock it behind a check
it's not important lore by any means don't worry, just... that captain is suspicious...
my dm will add a second phase to the boss we are going to fight next session
sweet. but not seeing how thats related to what i said
in one side im scared, in another im excited and want to happen
the word DM triggered that memory
its a mimic, its always a mimic
Mind Flayer captain...
Make him completely irrelevant to the rest of the story. He's just there, chilling
Honestly, any time the DM wants a certain outcome, don't bother doing a check.
thats. thats what I said
tying your shoelaces is a thievery check
DnD looks so fun and interesting how can I be apart of it?
I said that too
my first natural 20 was climbing a crow's nest
Good ol' #find-a-game
Read the free rules in #learn-to-play as well
Nat 20s always come at the strangest of moments
Bro at this point I am desperate, I’ve been looking to join a campaign for so long and every single time I try find something it’s either at 1 3 or 5am for me or no one gets back please can someone tell me of a way to join a group
Coz the chats here just don’t work for finding people
I’m in the UK I just wanna have a group 😭😭
Doing a skill checks when mounting or dismounting a horse lol.
Give in to the darkness...
Become a DM....
yeah, obviously a mimic
Or worse, 3 kobolds in a trenchcoat
I’m- there’s a game? What’s it like like?
Not a chance I wanna play my character Boogie Wonderland 😭😭😭
the captain is still very suspicious...
Do you know anything about dnd?
that section of the server is for looking for campaigns and games to join yes
Naaaa, nothing to woooorry, its just a captain, a worker.
the new player is casting a spell on the captain...
Captain Obvious
dear god he's trying to charm the mind flayer
I know there is magic orcs and all that
So mostly no
OH NO
Technically the orcs aren't even innately magical so not even that

WHAT?! HE LIKE THOSE SQUIDWARDS?!
Okay, I recommend #dnd-newcomers then, they are much better at handling this
no but genuinely, why is that like the only option if you actually wanna play 😭
Because, the greatest enemy in D&D is scheduling
Players outnumber dungeon masters 1000 to 1
No clue how accurate that is but I heard it somewhere
like not even kidding, for the sess 0 of the campaign thats HOPEFULLY gonna start (and that Ive been trying to get other peopel to care about for like 3 months now) our dm didnt even show up
after its been scheduled for like 3 weeks
atp I should just dm or sth idk, I just wanna play
Source: I made it up
Wanting to play but not being able to find a group that could match my schedule is why I became a DM
na, not for me, i was about to play at 5am the weekened in a session. Woke up and couldnt be because one of the key players in this arc cant be there
Thanks
but its always welcome a new DM in this world.
There is lots of wild players wanting a dm, to have adventures and more
yeah, I mean I DO have some funny ideas I would like to offer to others in the form of a campaign, but first Id also like to experience a campaign thats taking place on the regular and with some commitment from everyone and also play a PC during that time 😭
and Im not opposed, Id just like to be a player for at least 1 proper campaign lmao
on d and d beyond theres no hex blade as subclass for warlock how do i get it does anyone know ?
It's from Xanathar's guide to everything
Unless you own the book on dnd beyond there's not really a way to add it
Xanathars
is there a way to unlock all of the character creation options or do i have to spend 100s of dollars on multiple books
You'd have to buy several hundred dollars of books
You have to buy the books
well shoot
Just how this hobby is
Xanathar's is one of the best for character creation. Honestly so is Tasha's
Like DLC for a video game
I'll make my own D&D...
With Blackjack and Incubi!
Majority of character creation options will be in
- Player's Handbook
- Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse
- Xanathar's Guide to Everything
- Tasha's Cauldron of Everything
... what
I said what I said
what do physical books look like does anyone have a picture
Alternatively, I think DMs can share their content with players in a campaign, so if you find a DM who owns Xanathar's you may be able to use the hexblade
you can search them up. They dont all look the same
Sadly we can't post pictures here so search them up
They're very tall and wide, the cover is as large as a standard piece of paper. They all depict a different bit of artwork with a different title. You'll just have to look them up.
what is the fantasy card game equivalent of blackjack in dnd anyway?
Oh, btw, Ti, if you kill any of my characters, I'm making Reinhardt from Overwatch /Half-Joke
Jack black
Wait, no
Baldur's Bones!
That may be a dice game tho, idk
i can tell that gwyn is a dm lol thanks i know what they look like
Actually, forget the D&D
Hi Bloodline!
Futurama reference
maybe 3 dragon ante?
That's an actual card game
i feel like its goofy to just buy the physical or just the physical cause they have a crazy discount for both
that is also a canonical part of the FR lore
Elminster's love of Dr Pepper always makes me smile
Yeah, im saying though with it having its own custom ruleset it's not equivalent to blackjack
well obviously equivalent doesnt mean the same rules
just used in similar situations
Well, you also should make sure that DND beyond is the VTT you want to use as well. The books dont transfer to other VTTs so if you decide to pick a different one like roll20 or foundry you wont have access to the options there
whats vtt ive been playing for a while with ole lady and friends but im starting to take it seriously
Virtual TableTop.
If you play D&D online a lot of people use one for maps, rolls, etc.
whats the best vtt for players
depends on what your needs are
I personally enjoy Owlbear for simplicity and DNDBEYOND Maps for convenience
I'm bad at computers :(
The only issue i have is how poorly constructed D&Dbeyond's character sheet ui is
I like the dnd beyond UI
Although I prefer the regular 2024 character sheets on paper
Feel free to give the team some constructive feedback: #ddb-feedback
Same for most vtts tho
Yeah there's pros and cons to any tool you use - best to test things out and find which things work best for you and your group and how you play.
What’s the next book coming out that will have new player options?
I dont think ones been announced atm
I first learned to play using pencil and paper. D&D Beyond's character sheet is a blessing for me.
I’m hoping venger gets their time to shine in a book soon with all the cartoon focus recently
Oh my lord the captain might be a mimic...
I don't think there's any of these announced for 2026
The only confirmed products this year are:
Dragonlance Legends Collecter's Edition
D&D Crochet
Player's Workbook (which is literally just hand-holding character creation book)
DM's Workbook of Worldbuilding
And the romantic fantasy novel The Feywild Job
Yeah they haven't announced anything for the game game.
which is great, because I got some books from last year that I still want to get
My theory is it's cause the new team is looking to do Dark Sun 5e
But that could be a PR nightmare so there's probably too much friction.
yeah, I'm curious how they plan to approach it
They either do it faithfully in the right way which can be a PR nightmare, or they sanitize the hell out of it which will make none of the fans buy it.
seems like a scenario where they can't really win
Nothing announced yet but we can make some assumptions about future products.
Arcane and Mystic Subclasses give off "Complete Arcane" vibes. Probably some expansion in the future surrounding magic.
Spooky Subclasses gives Ravenloft vibes. If not Ravenloft, then maybe an MTG setting like Innistrad.
Psion and Apocalypse Subclasses give clear Dark Sun allusions, even featuring a Warlock of the Sorcerer Kings.
Yeah Gladiator was a Dark Sun 2e class originally
Circle of Preservation is the Druid Circle that preserves the last green left on the planet
Defiled Sorcery = Defiler mages that destroyed the planet
If we get ANOTHER ravenloft book, I'll crash out
Also my favorite druid subclass by theming, mechanics, and added spells
the level 14 ability is kinda meh though
It's like Spelljammer, they were teasing that for like a decade almost before they finally gave us the box set
Spelljammer needs an expansion book more than ravenloft imo
But Ravenloft was likely chose for popularity and ease
Since Undead Warlock and Spirits Bard are relatively new so they don't have glaring issues to fix.
I'd be super down for a Spelljammer 2 book
I could see them doing like a 2nd book for each setting
spirits bard my beloved
Spelljammer would definitely be last imo
Spelljammer 2 without all the lore, ship to ship rules, and other stuff cut out of it
Since Spelljammer is niche, and only has character options attached that people notoriously don't take seriously
story of my life maining plasmoid
sad though, because the SJ species are all really interesting
Spelljammer has the best species
Thri-Kreen my beloved
Ye Astral Elves are easily forgotten then Plasmoids and Thri-kreen are either for jokes or misunderstood "optimization"
The thri-kreen dual wielding with a Shield thing
das it?
And plasmoids are often joke characters, least often enough
Mine is serious
doesn't stop DMs just blanket banning the species though
Not every species works for every campaign
My point is that Spelljammer doesn't have much going in its favor to be prioritized for an expansion book by the company.
Spelljammer is really underrated sadly
I'm aware, but it feels like the spelljammer species specifically get voided far more than the species from any other official source
Is any one here good with tec
I think that it only really matters if your DM voids it. It doesn't matter if you think other people disallow it
Now obviously the first book of '27 could be spelljammer expansion, but other stuff just gives more that people tend to use/allow more.
That's the trouble though, because I go through LFG posts that mention they allow all official sources and when we get to character creation they nix plasmoid
it's to the point I ask about it up front just to save time
I suppose that's not really the game for you then yeah? I wouldn't want to play in a game that doesn't align with what I want to do
though I've been playing a lot more AL recently and they allow AAG species for the Forgotten Realms campaign so I don't have to deal with it
I do think they'll do a spelljammer 2 tho
And it sounds like you're finding out even before session zero, which is cool
Funnily enough, didn't Thri-Keen actually originate from Dark Sun? (at least as a playable race?)
Yes, and then I contnue looking, but it's frustrating when you hit several games in a row where it's denied because 'the official art is too silly/cartoonish', 'they don't fit standard fantasy tropes', 'this isn't a spelljammer campaign', and other such reasons
trying to at least
They are one of the few species left on Athas yeah
Like, when does the official art matter for literally any species ever in regards to availability
Idk about the playable thing. Possibly
Yeah they became playable initially in Dark Sun 2e
Question
Even if they don't carry the stat block through, you can always just use the AAG block
I do feel like plasmoids get a bad rap.
When you are unconscious, but also take a hit by something like a spell while you're unconscious, does that immediately count as a failed death save?
won't stop DMs denying them for 'not being humanoid' or whatever innane reason they want to pull out of the hat that day though, despite them being a lore accurate species to the plane
If you're at 0hp yeah
If you're just asleep you wake up assuming you aren't downed by the hit.
Unfortunate
Getting hit while down is a scary affair
It depends on the spell effect
Fire damage
Then yes
But like, if someone casts hold person on you while youre at 0hp, it doesnt do anything
Yeah, that's unfortunately how my Ranger met his end. If only the person playing Wizard considered a 3rd level Sleep instead of that Fireball
Meant to say Wizard there. He did try to rescue me, but good intentions paved my road to the thereafter, it seems
what kind of equipment would a 15th-level druid have? i've never played one
Maybe an enchanted club/shillelagh, a talisman that allows for more transforming? Special woodland armor?
I am running a Stephen King’s IT Campaign and I just ran session 1 with my players.
My plan for ITS main goal is to bring ITS Home dimension: the Macro Verse to Earth and the players have to stop it or else earth is done for.
Do any of you guys have ideas for a different main goal of IT or is the story good?
Sounds like a good topic for #dm-discussion
Or even #homebrew
Although homebrew is more for the mechanics
Already said it there but no one responded so I am here now 🙂
Who wants to rate my knights??
Seems like a good goal :)
Salutations, friends, anyone have any D&D Plans Tonight/Today? 🧐
Folks in #character-discussion or #optimization might be interested in rating your knight
Okie
Not until Wednesday. Then will be either the last or 2nd to last session of a campaign
Me, personally? playing my Dragonborn Fighter tonight 🧐
Lads going through a depression Arc because his Childhood horse was killed, gonna have that lad going through the stages of Grief, he's never had to deal with such a traumatic death in his life of something he loves and cares about, so lad might be going dark places.
I have an AL game in like 90 minutes c:
I made a kobold fighter and a kobold bard for 2 campaigns
My Dragonborn fellow is a Cavalier :>
Well my kobolds can beat your dragon born
.. good luck :p
had an extremely fun session that ended just now.
He's got a Kobold boyfriend, so he has Kbold immunity >:p
playing an annoying prince type was funny
i was trying to formulate a subtly offensive sentence and accidentally said "yeah poor people are evil"
anyone here good at knows their way around brewing can you help a brother out 🙁 I'm having trouble in brewing
Homebrewing or actual brewing? One I can help with :)
Actual brewing now >:p
Dw, I've got Proficiency
maybe ask over in #homebrew
I do have a question I found such a cool dnd server but they didn't allow me since I'm not 18 so l wanted to ask if I could see if you guys know a place similar to the The Dodum Planescape since I can't be there.
Excuse me, I'm new here, but does anyone have any advice for a new dm? It's my first time running a campaign and second time ever playing d&d so any help is appreciated 👍
I’m honestly really sad about it since it’s the first time I’ve spoken to people online in a while
Communicate with your players
Respect your players
Put passion into the game
Don’t overprep
Expand your vocabulary
Show, not tell (and use descriptive language that talks into all senses)
Have fun, no stress, and COMMUNICATE
Have a session zero
You don’t write a story, your party lives through one. Don’t prepare tales, prepare scenarios.
Try to know more than your players
COMMUNICATE
maybe more of a question for google or discord server search? Since folks may not know what that server is/does otherwise
@glass granite Thanks!
It looks like that cuz I split every few words like a dot point
i have a quicker version
My guy it's literally what I asked for
good for you my man
you can't say words that would be insulting/utilize curse words, no. Or post things that are off topic.
it's pretty much covered in #rules
to be fair a lot of people in here are just a human google for their interests
Thanks for the advice! I’m going to eat you now
Based
Damn
Well, you are what you eat. If you eat me, someone will eventually eat you too.
Say less I’m so tasty!
And yeah Themberchaud gets hungry
What a fatty
This is a pretty cool dnd server
whats a strong high damage build rn i need help lol
Probably fiend warlock or evoker wizard
Like, hyper optimised to the point that there’s a power imbalance and it’s difficult to your DM, or just good/great do most levels of play?
Also do you wanna be melee or ranged?
Martial or caster or both?
are hexblade sorlocks not good anymore ?
Hexblade one level dips doesn’t exist anymore.
I wouldn't know, I'm pretty new to dnd and have never thought of multiclassing
Likely for the best. Multiclassing creates great builds. But also the worst ones
Ah, I think I'd still stick to regular classes, and the fact that I'm probably going to be the forever dm in my friend group
That's why this server exists, to find a group you can take a break from being a dm in
It's half by choice, there's just so much more I can do as a DM than as a player.
does baulder gate 3 builds tie directly into dnd ?
Tucker's Kobolds...
?
Baldur's gate 3 has various rules that differ from d&d in terms of class abilities and spells
It's a story about a DM who turned normal kobolds into a nightmare encounter for a party ranging from level 6-12 in the 80s
Ah, I see
Its a story about how a good dm can turn even relativly bland and low cr creatures into a interesting and challanging encounter
I already have a bunch of encounters planned in my head for my future players, but nothing THAT crazy
Yeh dw about that
Yeah, it's just a story about, as you said "so much more I can do as a DM than a player"
Ah, I'll keep that in mind👍
has anyone played an undead bladelock before? how was it?
What species are you thinking specifically?
Maybe the reborn species from a previous book that I forgot the name of?
But no, I haven't played one
Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft
That's the one!
tiefling, my friend told me about the undead subclass and it sounded awesome
The undead patron?
Undead subclass?
Hexblade is the subclass, thats part of the blade-lock
oh yes undead patron sorry for the confusion
Ahhh
I was confused, because the Eldritch invocations in 2024 aren't from subclasses, and they have the hexblade stuff
i was thinking of using 2024 and the UA update version of the undead patron, form of dread and frightening enemies sounds amazing and i can probably take moderately armored so i don’t die in melee
Guys my dad surprised me last Saturday and bought me 3 sets of dice and 2 DND books!
cool
Nice
Who's your favourite "celebrity DM"? Basically anybody who runs an actual play with some viewers
I'm curious what people on the D&D discord like
hey guys, i wanted you guys' opinions on me and my friend's map, since we are pretty new. Instead of buying a map or looking at a template, we kinda just improved and glued together 6 sheets of photography paper cause it was thicker and started drawing. We made a forest scenery with a lot of rivers and a big lake surrounded by trees and I decided I wanted a house, I just don't know what to put in there. What do you guys think? Is it good for someone who knows only the absolute basics? thank you!
Quick question, if I use lucky to give disadvantage to the creature attacking me and then silvery barbs after (cuz it succeeded both checks), does the disadvantage from lucky also get added? also, if I have the dodge action instead of lucky and use silvery barbs, does that give the rerolled die disadvantage?
You reroll which ever die it takes (the lower one)
for both senarios? so silvery barbs will always only reroll one time?
i heard that disadvantage dice is still considered a single roll
yeah, you take which ever die is the result
so if you roll Disadvantage and get 2 and 4, you take the 2
is silvery barbs considered disadvantage?
i thought it was just a reroll thing
nope. Its a reroll
no im combining it with the dodge action for this senario
Has ANYONE listened to Dungeons and Daddies?
can't say i have
Awe damn
how gay is dnd
Uhhh, probably like 50%?
gang i cant im a bit confused
"The triggering creature must reroll the d20 and use the lower roll."
but isnt disadvantage just 2 die that get treated as a single roll instance? thus getting disadvantage with silvery barbs again
What secondary effect do you guys think sounds good for a UC magic item that buffs unarmed strikes?
When you attack with an unarmed strike you can use your reaction to attempt to knock your target prone. The target must make a strength saving throw (or con?) DC (TBD) or be knocked prone.
Second option is the player still can choose to use their reaction to attempt to knock the target prone but instead of it requiring a save from that target it just works and they're knocked prone.
The last option is to forgot the knocked prone stuff and just give the attack an extra d4 (or d6?) force damage for 1 minute. This effect would have charges equal to proficiency bonus and recharges at dawn
I don't really wanna make another "this item gives you more math damage" magic item so I'm kinda leaning toward the knocked prone
This seems like a topic for #homebrew , and while I do agree just adding more dice is a lil boring the people who can use unarmed strikes well (monks) don’t particularly need this
They can already knock enemies prone relatively easily, and their reaction is one of the more valuable ones
-# btw what’s UC?
Oh alright! I thought this might be ok to bring over to dnd general but I'll focus it back into homebrew
Oh UC means uncommon
I see I see
Like an uncommon magic item
does dark ones own luck allow for more uses based on charisma modifier
so if my modifier is 5 i can use it 5 times per short rest ?
Long rest
Should I buy the 2024 Player's Handbook or Xanathars or Tashas? I would rather just buy one and I want to kinda know what im going to be missing out on. I would also like if theres a way for me to check exactly what each one has if thats possible anywhere
so i can use it more then once
2024 first. Tasha's and Xanathar are supplements, both great but PHB is a must have
If you open the books on D&D beyond you can see a list of player options and I believe the contents of each
Oh, forgot that you can only use silvery barbs when the target succeeds a D20 Test. But to even get to success/failure you need to resolve the roll first. Meaning you need to have chosen one of the two die for the actual total
Got it thank you I figured the handbook was going to be the best out of it all but I wanted to confirm./
me when i woke up and decided that today i would summon some demons #cartomancerfeat
so should i keep level 6 warlock for that ability or take a level in fighter to add medium armor to my warlock
Just had an amazing 5 hour DnD session
you can just grab Moderately Armored
And honestly contentwise PHB is the best written, and nearly 2x the size of the other 2 mentioned books. The 2024 corebooks are to a really excellent standard.
What's your dex score?
But if you get them down the line Xanathars is probably a little more packed with useful stuff than Tashas... they're both chok full of great stuff though, only issue is they're designed for 2014 D&D. Xanathars is a little older and therefore more archaic than Tashas...
i tried grabbing moderatley armored on dnd beyond but its not there
Remembering, you can take an invocation for armour of shadows which will give you 13+dex, maybe that'll be enough of an AC boost for you?
dex is 17
do you have the 2024 PHB on DNDBEYOND?
Is there any specific dndbeyond promo code that I should be using orrr we js ballin
promo for what
no and my dm plays with 2014 rules
oh do you have the 2014 one then
trying to buy the 2024 phb
just watch for sales really
I would very much encourage you take armour of shadows, which will give you a comparable AC to what you'd have with medium armour.
unless the ya got half plate
alright got it
(You'd have a 16 AC with armour of shadows, at best you could get a 17 AC with medium armour which is better but is not worth a whole feat or delaying your level progression)
neva know when you get handed magical armor tho
which could work with armor too, but yee
I also definitely don't see a lot of magical armour compared to other items in the games I play
-# youre a monk
I've played other classes before
Played as a rogue for the first time, I don't get the hype
the d6s
Then again, might be early game talking
but also maybe I should use armour... for fun....
No I'll draw the line at gun
lol
I rarely had advantage, maybe because I was level 2
for his Neutral Special, co- Hokrun uses a GUN
is there even any gear worth it at level 6 ?
Bonus Action Hide not working for ya?
If you're attacking enemies who are within 5ft of other players, you also get sneak attack
Yeah
Advantage is just one way to triggger it
I think it's the fact that I use a crossbow
A crossbow would work fine
Should still trigger
They're rarely near other players
There's not a martial player in the party?
^
Or I guess the combat encounters weren't really built for stealth
You can hide in combat too
all you need is cover or obscurement
inb4 flat terrain
Hiding in combat is possible & very common for rogues
There's a reason you get to do it as a bonus action
Hold on let me recall my memory...
Ranger, Wizard, Druid, Rogue, and... Someone else
That can be a rough setup for a rogue
It's not my fault the fish had good eyesight
¯_(ツ)_/¯
So when you bonus action hide on your turn, enemies don't make perception checks to find you
all you need to do to hide on your turn is make a DC 15 stealth check.
I could've killed those fish... so much quicker
They can make checks on their turn mind you
aha, DM misruling Stealth rules, i should add that to bingo
We've all done it before
one of the most misruled actions in the game its gotta be lmao
Yo
Sneak Attack is often the most misruled thing I know of lol
I'm not gonna be salty about it
It happens, people get stuff wrong
Overall my Nat 1 to Nat 20 ratio is 5:2
yeeeesh
No worries, the natural 1's weren't THAT important
i still dont get it
Then again... I rolled a Nat 20 on climbing a crow's nest...
i rolled a 1 to sit down and then a 20 to dechiper an arcane portal to hell in the span of 20 minutes
what was in it
If your ally is conscious and within 5 feet of an enemy or you have advantage
You get sneak attack as a Rogue
Only once per turn though
okey only once, great thats the only part i was missing
I’m still remembering when I played a game and rolled about 5 Nat 20s in a session, every single one of which was on some kind of knowledge roll
Hiiiiii
i cant find any armor spells my ac is 13 is that good ?
can a level 20 wizard completely destroy the material plane?
I'm sure most wizards would like to think they can.
Nothing, I thought it'd be cool for my character to do
Half the session my party members were suspicious of me...
Which is a compliment if you're playing a rogue, maybe
I guess
Turns out the captain whom I'd known for a long time actually had a pact with a sea hag and stole the rune that gave prosperity to their town
not that much of a compliment tbh
sounds like you're looking to play a single player game and they're concerned you might ruin their group game
Well...
-# I am secretly something else
Ah sorry my bad
if the players don't trust you that's bad
I made it up to them in the second half
it's a social game.
Listen I thought the captain could be trusted, I was wrong
Mage armour? AC becomes 13+DEX. A flat 13 is quite low and you're likely to get hit a lot
The DM sent some of us additional messages for backstory stuff and the others thought I had one like "you will betray them/you're working with the captain"
Not bad if you don't wear armor. Your class should give you access to either Mage Armor or Barkskin if you cannot wear armor.
Is there a limit to how many spells can 1 class have atm? and depending on spell lvl, can he have, for example, 5 LVL 9 spells?
Your class should explain how their spellcasting works
limit on spells included
Bard, for example
Your class will limit your number of spells you can have prepared at a time
One exception is Wizard, technically, who could have literally all the spells form the wizard's spell list in their book, but even then could only cast the ones they prepare each day which is still limited to a specific number based on level, or ones they can ritual cast
so, for example, if it says "1 LVL 9 spell can be learned" does this mean I can only have 1 of that type spell?
where does it say that
spell slots per spell level
Nowhere on the Bard does it say that. For example at 17th level when you'd get your first 9th level spell as a Bard, it also says "Spells known: 20", meaning you know 20 spells, each of which can be from any level of your choice, though you'd also be limited by how you learn the spells as a bard.
When a bard levels up from level 16 to 17, their known spells increase by only 1, and when they level up they can swap one of their spells, so at 17th level you could have two 9th level spells
thats what you use to cast your levelled spells
There is indeed a limit for every class but Wizard. The limit is different for each spellcasting class. On your Class Table, there shoupd be an extra column that reads like "Spells Known" or "Spells Prepared" or something
Spell Slots are essentially different bullets you use to shoot spells with
Yeah the slots are different to spells known. You could know a dozen 9th level spells, but having only one 9th level spell slot, you could only cast one of them with that slot
in dndbeyond, this is present when you hit the "manage spells" button on your character sheet
yes?
Yeah, your Spell Slots are the magic ammo you need that fuels your spells. You use up a Spell Slot when you cast a spell. Your Spell Slots come in a variety of sizes (1st-9th), but they have little bearing on how many spells you can know.
Note that you are limited on your "ammo" and you should be mindset if it's worth the use, or if there's another alternative you can do. As a sorcerer player, I like to play a bit more safe with my spellslots, even though I have many ways I can always get more. But regardless, the majority of my spells are my cantrips.
I use cantrips like 5-7 times more often than actual spells since I like to find the "perfect" moments to use spell slots. However I know sorcerers who are familiar with their dm's pacing and will spend all of their spell slots rapidly knowing there's upcoming breaks in the story pacing the DM has.
Ultimately you decided how you want these "different bullets" to be used ❤️
so basically, I can know hundreds of spells, but I can only use for example, 2 on LVL 6 spells?
Yes.
if you only have 2 level 6+ spell slots
Heyy! I've been wanting to play dnd for a long time. I tried it one in middle school but haven't played since. I really wanna get back into it but it's so expensive and I have no one to play with. I have my own dice and my character but that's it unfortunately 😭✌️
Welcome (back) to the hobby
Unrelated but incredibly based pfp 🙏
glad you have returned to the light
Yesss
I love Caleb Widogast 🙏 BTW the flags on him are mine not my head canon lol
Fair lol. His back story was so insane 😭
I already knew it but seeing it animated was CRAZY
Genuinely never seen a show where it’s so difficult to pick a favorite character
FR
I went in completely blind 😭😭😭
My sister introduced me to Vox Machina first and I was like “Just a silly dnd show” boy I was SO WRONG LMAO
I was watching some of the campaign but also already finding out other ways.
Ohhh gotcha
I really wanna. But no one to play with so...😭
Where do I go on here to find other people to play with??

Okay, thank you ✌️
For my fellows that bought a digital book about how long did it take for it to show up in dndbeyond for you? I bought one about 30 minutes ago and it still hasnt shown up. I am probably just being impatient but I am just confirming.
Account Entitlements
Account entitlements are how D&D Beyond identifies which content you can access. These are synced automatically in time, but if you're not seeing content you should have access to, visit Account > Licenses.
The Account Entitlements section at the top should ideally say "Your entitlements data is in sync!" If not, it will show a button to manually trigger the sync, after which your content should be available.
