hello does someone know where i can play d&d online
Fell Rebuke he does damage to people who do that
i had to spice up the vecna stat block a lot every time i ran it
alr ty
it would be a DC 18 to remove Mind Blank, and Vecna has a +6 mod so he needs to roll a 12+ to beat it
Also Vecna’s counter spell cannot be counterspelled. Also it’s comparable to the 2014 version
And?
Also fun fact who says he has to damage the Lich with his bonus action heal?
Animated dead for a bunch of zombies, damage them for heals.
Plus he heavily hurts a 2014 lich with Globe of Invulnerability blocking off the majority of their spells
his only damaging spell that works on the Lich would be Lightning Bolt since it is immune to necrotic damage, while Vecna's Rotten Fate and Flight of the Damned only deal necrotic damage
I was mainly looking at 2024/25 Lich
I'd probably buff his HP
that's why I specified "if the Lich had Mind Blank on their list"
By that reasoning why not just give Vecna a bunch of stuff too?
but yeah, Vecna's not going to be doing a lot of damage and will be very reliant on lv 3 lightning bolt and bonus action heals to fight a Lich since most of his abilities do Necrotic Damage
Could we not say “Vecna has Protection from energy so the Lich’s attacks hardly hurt”
Protection from Energy doesn't protect against Force damage, which is most of the Lich's damage
Either way it’s still rather disingenuous
why does Vecna have a lower AC than the Lich and no immunity to Necrotic damage?
becasue the 2024 lich was made years after vecna
2024 Lich was released a year after Eve of Ruin, so they had time to update Vecna to fit better with the new direction of the Lich
Vecna was before that book
the vecna start block that was reprinted in eve of ruin came out quite a bit before that in the dont say vecna dnd beyond suppliment
I wonder if DMs ever look at looking for dm channel?
Its likely that there'll be an updated vecna statblock for 2024 at some point but he also has an effective 80hp heal per round so realistically his hp is more like 400+ depending on how long it goes on for
They do
they updated his stat block in Eve with new wording for Undying and removing Unusual Nature from it. Eve of Ruin even has a "False Lich" that is immune to both Necrotic and Psychic damage.
they could've put that onto Vecna himself
I know it takes time, but man it feels like being gloss over sometimes
Its faster for you to look in the #looking-for-players tbh
I know and I have
False lich is notably just a buffed Demilich with the scream changed
And yeah Vecna was 2 years before Eve of Ruin
Patience pays
i realized very early on that if i wanted to see the games i wanted i had to run them myself
I hope they give Vecna a higher Int score if they do update him again
And then you become the forever dm
22 Int (lower than Kas, Acererak and his false lich, Sammaster, Tasha, Halaster, Manshoon, and Alustriel) feels strange for someone of his reputation
Yeah you clearly didn’t read the book based on that message
I know Dossier Vecna was pre-ascension, and Eve of Ruin had him use up a lot of his divinity for the ritual, but Int being that low still seems strange
Yeah still other signs you missed a lot
End bosses are never powerful enough in 5e campaign books, I have ran them all
Funny enough I ran a two shot with Vecna on a level 20 party, half the party died and the rest ran away
I haven't re-read the adventure since its release
Have you ran it?
It's much easier to kill level 20 one shot charicters than level 20 charicters who have started at 1 and gone through a whole campaign
I wanted to run it, but circumstances led to just not having the free time to actually run any campaign or system of any kind
not even enough free time to play in a campaign for the last 6 months
and now most of the people I played with have moved on to other systems
Heyo, just want some people's opinions who actually play D&D, how balanced between Roleplay (scenes without combat), and combat is dnd 5e, in y'alls opinions
@umbral girder When you ran Vecna, did you have him benefit from the Book of Vile Darkness's properties?
No
I’ll give him three wishes with strings attach
just as an exclaimer, I usually do not give properties of the legendary item to the npc wielder unless it specifies in stat block
Jk
Table dependent.
But if we're talking how the system is designed, it's polished more for combat
fair, and I see rulings for either, just I don't do it, especially for artifacts if the enemy is already balanced for the CR (excluding the item)
Tho people usually prefer roleplay over combat
Social/Exploration pillars are very roleplay heavy.
nvm, I thought you were replying to my latest message, mb
Or rather what I mean is that they don't rely on strict rulesets
I once had a DM who appologized for us having two sessions back-to-back without any combat, and our table was all like, "no, this is what we wanted - we kinda went out of our way to do this non-combat stuff"
They're mostly "hey I wanna do this" then dm decides if it's worth rolling and if it is what the DC is.
Because I was going around the VtM (vampire the Masquerade) server and D&D was brought up and was getting lots of hate, and saying VtM was the best balance of combat and rp
All I've heard from VtM players I've known personally is that combat in VtM kinda sucks
Cause the last situation you wanna be in is combat in WoD
very much, because at a point, the combat starts getting very very similar once your party gets a strat down
Now VtM definitely is a better social system than 5e
That only happens if the dm let it happen
But that's cause it's polished around it.
Where as 5e intends you to be in combat regularly, VtM expects you to avoid it regularly. From my understanding
stares
I mean, I love me some Vampire, but anyone who says that VtM has good balance in anything is coping. It has better social systems... but I've played more than my fair share of Vampire where we rolled less times for social stuff than in D&D
Cause from what I understand, the last thing Vampires in VtM want is to be caught
And combat seems like a quick way to be caught by Vampire Hunters.
I'm assuming there's Vampire hunters in WoD. Or Monster hunters.
Its more that, in my experience, most "social" stuff in Vampire usually ends with an application of mind control Discipline, which bypasses the need for actual social rolls. So, most of the time, social-fu in vampire is done without rolls or checks outside of the occasional magical power
Ah yeah
I think the main systems that actually can have a consistent healthy balance are fantasy adventure systems.
don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Vampire and its spin offs, but the actual mechanics are very rarely balanced
purposely so, since "overwhelming violence" is a feature of the setting over bug
Mages in WoD turning themselves to a pile of sentient goop after trying to cast a simple spell
The current Lantern Archon is CR2 right? I keep finding different versions of it. I thought it was CR2 with a ray of light attack
Is there lots of warlock pets if you buy modules?
The games are built to tell different kinds of stories, thus they attract players who want different things out of a game. It's natural that one fanbase likes their own preferred game over another. It doesn't make it some sort of universal or "objective" fact that one is better than the other.
Modules don't really add Warlock pets.
They mainly add specific backgrounds, items, maybe a spell or two.
is the D&D stage active for y'all?
That fit the adventure
nvm, it just closed, it was glowing as if people were on, but wasn't showing anyone
Mage is probably the coolest magic system I know, but it focuses a lot on the whys and hows of magic because the entire game is about magic.
Like Frosty Fingers which is a Cold version of Burning Hands that comes in Icewind Dale
You can just describe your pet as something else either for flavor or ask the DM if you can pick a different monster
Up to them really what your options are for warlock "pets"
Only thing I really know is that reality doesn't take too kindly to being altered so you can end up blowing yourself up and crap
the biggest piece of evidence that the duffer brothers didn't plan ahead or genuinely just don't know about the dungeons and dragons monsters is the fact that the mind flayer ||is more powerful than vecna|| which is ABSOLUTELY not the case 😭
wait, what? Who are the duffer brothers?
from Stranger Things.
guys who made stranger things
Ah~ yeah, haven't looked at that yet. Thankx for the responce
It's almost like it's a story told about and by kids who are just using flawed metaphors to describe things they have absolutely no context or comprehension about.
that's honestly kind of cope
That was more like an elder brain than a MindFlyer. Which is way more powerfull. Also the monsters where reference to what they thought they where in a game not what they actually where to them in real life (well movie life).
And what does that mean, again?
EXACTLY
and vecna was more of a mind flayer than anything
Maybe we could not spoil things for people who haven't seen it yet, also the tv show is probably more a #non-dnd-topics
I kinda felt like the 2014 kracken stole the abolith's thunder as the "Deep Sea psionic horror cult" bit.
To the point I kinda wanted to turn the kracken into an abomination and just say they were the same thing
as wizard i usealy craft extra shield spell scrolls. im wondering would it be worth as wel to craft Shield of Faith scrolls as paladin ? to keep my ac up by 2 ??
wait, does that work? I thought it was an Action to activate a scroll
Though I admit I might look for a game of the Hellfire club box set just to play it and have a fun couple of nights.
could be cool in a homebrew world to make an aberration kraken
my dm allows me so..
fair enough
wait how am i just now figuring out that the 4e kraken is an aberrant wtf
Remember Shield of faight can be cast on any one, but the caster has to keep the concentration unless the person cast it them selves. Lately my Pali after getting Plate Mail has been casting it on our Barbairan to give him an AC bust in fights.
i got 20 ac with the spell 22
Now get a Sorcerer to cast it and use a SP to extend it so it last all day or until you loose concentration.
all day ?
Extend Metamagic makes anything with a duration of 1m or more last a day.
oh and with creature half cover goes to 24 ac 😄
you know, would shuffling around in a waist high cardboard box classify as half cover
haha
there's an entire game franchise that revolves around shuffling here and there in a cardboard box.
I'm an old scholl 2nd guy so I really hate the AC now...cause if you have a 20 or above at lower levels means you pretty much only hit by crits so you take twice or more damage depending on the crit system your using.
idk man, doesn't sound like a super solid franchise
Sorry if this is a stupid question but how do I make myself a celestial warlock in DND beyond?
do you have the books for it
Probably not considering I have bought anything off here
you need to get xanathars dude or you need content share to play it
i have xanathars i can content share with you
Are you using 2014 or 2024 rules. What the Celestial Warlock from? Celestial Patorn is in the core rules so if you got any of the core books it should be their.
"the celestial" is from xanathars in 2014 (if im not mistaken)
I think both
It's in the 2024 phb as one of the base subcalsses now also.
Alright
well he mentioned that he doesn't have any books
Sorry this is my first time using DND beyond
if you're playing 2024 i dont think i can help you but like i said i'd be fine doing content share for 2014 celestial
Thank you for the offer but I'll probably just end up buying it soon
got it
yah I'm not sure what all it allows if you don't own any. One solution is maybe ask some one that has to the books if you can share. I have an open campang just for that cause I gotten a few books the DM didn't have.
Ok one last stupid question if I get a hard copy of a book is there a way for me to let DND beyond know I have them?
nope unfortunately not
no, as much as we'd like that they don't
New to DnD, anyone here explain to me how to play ?
because if they did that wizards of the coast wouldn't be able to squeeze as much money out of us as possible ❤️🩹
Well that's wildly unfortunate
watch a crap guide to D&D by jocat
hey Dyno, you good?
nevery mind.I was trying to bring up the dyno thing
Alr thanks
its a whole series
and then after that go and read DnD beyond's character sheet guide and the "how to play" guide
Okay
ig dyno drank too much last night
Yeah, also heads up his jokes aren't for everybody so watch out and dont take anything personal
Thanks ig
true, good point. i'm used to slightly edgy youtube humor so i didn't even think abt that
I’m starting critical role I hear good things!
Do not start at campaign 1
Or do if you’d like. But their first campaign stream starts mid-campaign
There's nothing wrong with it, per se, but the production quality, and there's a bad member in there that got kicked out early
The Mighty Nein campaign starts at the very beginning
I WAS WONDERING WHY THERE WAS A BLURRED SCREEN
You could just start at Campaign 2
Campaign 1 really has the vibes of a homemade stream of a home DND game, so if you're into those vibes campaign 1 is perfect for that
Just finished making another character that will never see the light of day 🔥🔥
Campaign 2 and beyond is when the production value kicks up and it really starts to feel like made-for-tv dnd
Reallll
I think I’ll start with the second id prefer to start from the beginning of the session
maybe skip to the part where the bad member is gone, so the second arc
Bad member™?
I have a lot of respect for those that can effectively catch up on critical role from the beginning
Feels like the people who watch One Piece from the beginning
I wanna join a party but I’m too shy to look in the party search
Yep. Him. he who shall not be named
I feel like I’m not ready yet
understood
The one that made others uncomfortable, and repeatedly cheated at DnD
i really need to watch critical role tbh
How do you cheat?
he changed his dice
metagaming maybe?
Dice
Weights?
he even got caught cheating live on stream
oh wow
Orion acaba?
no like, he got a low number, then he pretended to check it but turned it ever so slightly so it's a bigger number
OH WHAT
im always shocked when people cheat on livestreams like...how do people think they can get away with it
even got caught by a party member
good god
Gang be honest with me is find a game really that scary
also made the others very uncomfortable
imagine cheating at dnd too like....its a roleplaying game buddy you're not winning anything
I hate when players make others uncomfortable it ruins the vibe for everyone
ill still start watching from the beginning but i appreciate the heads up
Dnd does attract some freaky ppl
It’s only fun when the freak is matches by everyone!
Not really scary. It just takes time . There are a lot of players and not nearly as many DMs.. and since this is the internet, it covers a lot of timezones.
Finding a game that works best for you can take time so give yourself some patience..
You can also look for games at local game stores.
well good luck, 373 hours of gameplay for ya
add around 75 hours if you include intros and outros
still less than one piece /j
Sadly my states nerd population is very low 😞 we don’t have any gaming events or anything to cater to us
The one dice the one dice is real
The nat one piece
I’d probably have to go to a completely different county to find a game store-WAIT I HAVE AN HOUR AND A HALF AWAY THAT WAS THE ONLY TTRPG IVE EVER SEEN
Not even my college has a dnd club
As an east coaster I'm disappointed in the volume of nerd and game stores here
West Coast mops the floor with us in that regard
Change college then 🔥🔥🔥
(don't take this seriously)
dnd club at a college sounds awesome
Game stores are not the only option they are just an option for something local and faster to get into if available.
#find-a-game gives you details on how our looking for channels so you can look for stuff online
it does but for what it's worth I live in a fairly small city on the east coast of canada and theres a decent sized nerdy subculture here. theres a whole Games Workshop store pretty close to me
I understand your pain, in my country only 0.0001% know about DnD, which I'm shocked isn't an overexaggeration
Huh
i always wondered how popular dnd is in non-english countires
D&D is not nearly as widespread as people here might think.
My Highschool tried to have a club but we never played a single game
Apparently, not too much
Everyone just played Mario kart
I'm from a third-world country, the literacy rate is low enough as is, so it makes sense that such few even know about DnD, let alone play
The most popular tabletop game in Japan is Call of Cthulu, as a random fun fact
Oh thats interesting. I know dnd is decently popular in nerdy spaces in Japan
As if DnD players read though, am I right? /j
I have reconsidered several facts
My college had a DND club, but I heard, uh, not great things about it
one of the first books i ever read in full without an older person helping me was a dnd monster manual
if you wanna learn about campaign 1 i recommend the legend of vox machina on amazon prime
sessions tend to be rugged if English is not the main language, at least in my experience
I’m a good dm but I alwaysss dm if like to play for once
But I wouldn’t mind doing for people like me I need friends my age
Make a group with other forever DMs and take turns
hold on, question about Vicious Mockery, if you mock them in a language they dont understand, would that still deal damage? 🤔
Ooo but then it goes back to I dunno how to find people
Yep, there's no condition of that spell that requires knowing the language
I’d assume it’s the tone and delivery if I don’t speak a lick of French but I’d still be offended if someone insulted me in it
#looking-for-players has a lot of DMs
yeah probably, vicious mockery is more of a magical performance thing
"I remember when someone insulted my whole bloodline in french, but I didn't understand it so I ended up saying thank you"
When you want to insult someone sooo bad you bypass language barriers
it's all in the facial muscles bro trust
universal hostility
I just don’t feel like I’m ready to play with a group though I feel like I should learn way more before I start
what if they're deaf
im kind of a forever dm
Sign language
When you want to insult them so bad you learn Sign Language
offensive hand signs
facial muscles bro... facial muscles
could you use insulting gestures as well in vicious mockery
There’s a very special finger
What if theyr blind and deaf
Playing with puppets with labels on them, one of them being labeled "Your mother"
genius
just flipping someone off in a creative manner
Okey wait that sounds bad - nvm
BWAHAHA
Bards can do both
bards DO do both
There are beginner friendly sessions in the #looking-for-players channel for play experience, I'm due for my first playing experience too!
Slappy slap slap
AHEM AHEM PG13 SERVER Y'ALL
Imma go ahead and remove that
Helloo
REALLY!
I wonder if you can take someone's five senses away from them from just spells, I know about Blindness/Deafness, what spell removes taste buds?
Curse of British
Nah imagine that “I roll to make this man unable to taste his mothers cooking again”
The sense of taste isn't usually all that important mechanically
where do i ask something for stories for campaign
you get it
That’s more hurtful than just breaking my ankle
As a DM? #dm-discussion - see also #channel-guide
This is a joke
yeah but still, I want to take all five of their senses, how do I do it
well yea
you can always run a module
Could someone remind me how temporary hit points work?
Say I have 10 temporary hit points already and I gain 20, I know they don't stack, does the 20 override the 10?
Yesss, i too am scheduled for a session aimed to introduce new players to the mechanics of the game, it's a one shot too so quite convenient!
from what sources?
Gloves of soul catching...
I just found out the chiefs played dnd I love when cliques collide I need a whole podcast of their campaign
gloves of soul catching add temp hit points?
Can I have some suggestions on what campaign to run? I’m in the middle of Phandelver but we are gonna branch away from that for now and meet a new group that will eventually become intertwined with the old group..but i’m trying to decide which campaign to run. Any suggestions?
i thought they just healed
Nevermind it's actual health. I was looking at another item before this
Yes, new temp HP overrides old temp HP
"When two temporary hit points love each other very much"
Awesome! Though not important to my build as I got it wrong. But is good to know 🙂 thank you
Hey
Heya
Can someone help me im trying to get into dnd i never rlly played it the only thing ive done is 1 little sort of campaign at school🤠

What role does everyone tend to pick in campaigns?
Other then the DM, everyone plays a player character
I like to be the one to balance out the party usually
DM… Almost always…
I will exclusively play a spellcaster
Hello
i will try a caster if im giving the chance
When I play, I’m happy to fill in whatever role is needed. I don’t get to play often, so every class has a build I’ve never tried.
I'm struggling to find a group who plays an evening weekday evening, UK gmt. Does anyone have any ideas how I could find one? I'm a online newb.
a complete caster, in another campaign im using a Ranger, hunter so the idea is use the spells to upgrade my attacks and survival
I'm trying out Paladin for the campaign that's starting soon, but I've never really played a game that's lasted more than a few sessions
I just want to cast spells, if I get to be a fullcaster i'm just giddy happy and joyous
Check through #looking-for-players and #looking-for-community and consider play by post games (text based D&D games) where aligning time to play matters less.
Currently I'm playing a Heart of Gold character because everyone else wanted to play a morally gray character
Wizard gang
I have been dying to try my divine soul sorcerer multiclass, so I can play 3 classes in a trenchcoat
Thank you, ill check those out
I've been dying to play a charismatic front, maybe next campaign I'll call dibs
I moved to a new state 5 years ago. I posted that I was looking for players on a Facebook DND page for the area. Vetted those who replied and then met up with a bunch of strangers at one of their houses. Still gaming together 5 years later. It’s uncomfortable. But that’s how I’ve had success. Just be selective on who you game with.
I've got a fiend warlock gunslinger idea that I'd be stoked to play
You might also want to check out DnDBeyond's forums - they have a Looking For Game forum.
And there's also Roll20 and Demiplane which offer game finding tools.
a flavored pact of blade with a gun?
I cast gun to a knife fight?
- Eldritch Blasts that shoot out of pistols
Neat ngl
That was an option?
welp, if i have a gun in a knife fight, hope the others are 10fts closer to me
Which kind of gun
I have briefly checked roll20s, but I'll check DnD beyond
I had a similar idea! I actually had a piece of character art commissioned too. Except he was a Hexblade whose patron was flavored as a devil.
Actually I was considering going pactless with that one in a 2024 build, just to see how viable that is
Old wester revolvers
i was hoping you'd say that
Had to stop myself from using all caps on this one
Yeah, an old western revolver with glyph and stuff
I would prefer a five headed revolver
Aka the Tiamat buster
timezones non aligning is such a trivial problem
I've been looking into differeny species to play, and I wanna play an Otter. I think it would be cool
How so?
like, I wanna play with people but playing at 2:00 in the morning on a weekday isn't ideal
Atp get a job as a night security guard at a pizzeria with a bear mascot so your free time aligns with the others
I am 13 hours ahead of my group
Worry less about the timezone and more about "Can I play at that time?"
Some D&D groups have players from all over the world - just their play schedules align despite timezones.
Wait a second
The character idea is that I wanted to make a warlock who is on equal footing with his patron, in the sense of "we're BOTH screwed almighty, let's join up as a last ditch effort"
Except the patron fully misinterpreted who my character is
Patron: wait, you have pistols at your hip. There are wanted posters around with your face on them. Are you not a gunslinger?
Warlock: ah, you misunderstood! I play a gunslinger in a travelling circus act, and those wanted posters are part of the advertising. It's a wonderful show, you should come see it some time. I could get you a discounted ticket!
Patron: ...oh my God we're both gonna die...
Late nights for them is Early Morning for me, and Early Morning for me is Late Nights for them
almost same, the session is for liek 1 or 2pm for my friends. To me is 7am.
After they understanding that they understood i liked playing with them
also, maybe that's not sustainable in the long run, but perhaps with oneshots you can solve this, it's a one time campaign
7 am dnd sounds outlandish to me ngl
I guess my time is limited, I work 13 hour days, and only have weekday evenings free.
Mosg posts I was seeing were EST, which didn't align. So figured I was ask if I was looking in the right places.
i gotta be honest, if my job was to be a DM, i'd be fine with a 7 am start, and go all day. every day.
I mean, if dnd was my job I'd be pretty darn happy about it too
okay, not every day, but like a standard 40 to 44 hour week
You could also check local game/hobby shops and even public libraries for in-person D&D groups
I wanna play so bad bro but I don’t think I’m ready what if I mess up and the whole party hates me dawg
If a party hates you for making a mistake, that's not the party for u
remember, if you die in the game, you die in real life.
Tried that, unfortunately, they only have one group, which is Sunday afternoon, and I'll be working.
Bruh, theyr people, if they can't understand that human beeings make mistakes I'd say theyr the unreasonable ones
You are playing a game. If folks are getting upset over inevitable mistakes in their games, they have issues IMO.
I can confirm
Let's not troll please.
Should I start as a dm or a player
That's why you should make sure you are comfortable with the basics, and only start off with a premade adventure module that walks you through how to DM
I tried signing up for my uni DnD group. But the only time they had to offer was during my class time 😮💨
I'd say player is probably a lot easier
I don't think there is anything catered towards DnD where I live. Maybe I should start something, like a club or a community to play Dnd with interested parties in my state
depends on you, but player is the easiest
I’ve done dm work but it never ended well my players never wanted to play the story no matter what I did and they’d sorta avoid all arc and never interacted with each other either it was odd
also solves time issues
Be the change you want to be in the world
then I dont think that was the party for you
words i should follow, thank you
noted.
Is it okay to just leave parties that don’t fit tho?
yep. might be courteous to tell them, but not absolutely required. different tables fit for different people.
Yuppie time for murder :D /j
Better to politely give notice and leave than to just suffer in a game you're not enjoying.
The healthiest thing to do is communicate
That’s such a cool idea! probably be surprised how many people are just waiting for someone to start something like that.
Thanks for everyone's help, I guess I'll just keeping looking around
I made a character just for a test and I’m so attached to him bro
How do you know when you’re ready for a party?
Let's hope nothing "bad" happens to him 🙊
I get it what kind of character did you make?
dive in. make mistakes. experiment. have fun.
Oh boy! making mistakes! my specialty
I’d cry but a little suffering never hurt no body 🌚
what’s good
if he perishes his identical brother appears to mourn him and take his place
a great thing about TTRPGs like D&D is that the whole thing is done using words and language and actually talking at the table. it is very fault tolerant, and there's the option for the table to roll things back or ignore things if everyone agrees.
He’s a halfling cleric and the more I built his personality the more I realized he’s very demon of marcille from delicious in dungeon
Yup totally he’s got as many identical brothers with similar sounding names as I need
Sometimes, courage is all you have and it’s enough.
Honestly once you start building the personality the inspiration just sneaks in.
you can bring characters "back from the dead" for other campaigns and one shots and stuff. i'm playing a copy of a PC that died a horrible death in a different campaign years ago. not the same character, just using the same stats, mannerisms, personality, background, name, etc.
I so need to draw him now
That’s actually perfect A halfling cleric with Marcille energy is such a vibe.
I’d love to reuse my first even DnD character(he died because his party ignored him while he was drowning in a car 😞)
Ash in Army of Darkness had a car
I genuinely don’t know anything about the campaign I joined in the middle I think it was a whatever goes campaign
I'm just talking about it I didn’t say for you to draw it.
Oh no I’m an artist! I love character design so I really wanna draw him since I’m attached
FedEx is so evillll my super expensive drawing tablets box was punched in I was so scared
hey guys
Hiii
welcome
can anyone send the free rules?
drawing them is basically therapy
uhh
which ones?
I think I’ll use dnd beyond to ACTUALLY make a character sheet he’s just an idea at the moment I hear it’s good for beginners
the basic ones for the start cuz its my first time being a dm and i would like to go trough rules
ah. gotcha
ty
did you mean for 2014 or 2024?
Boy am I glad to have employment I think I’ll get the players handbook as my Christmas gift I never got myself because I was indecisive
I bought the dnd starter kit years ago I have no clue where it is
the lost mine of phandelver starter set's rulebook (only) and the essential kit rulebook are still on the wotc media server as pdfs. no adventure or anything else, but its something.
Wotc?
wizards of the coast
Not sure where to talk about this, but is anyone else having issues with D&DBeyond breaking down right now?
seems like there might be an outage
but not fully like what usually happens
Could ask in #ddb-support
Seems to be working okay for me.
Weird. According to the reported outage stuff online the website had a ton of sudden outage/issue reports so It's not just me at least
I'm also having issues
Hi, If you have any questions about dnd if your newer come talk in https://discord.com/channels/516367331358801950/966723268675510372 or just hang out here or elsewhere on the server
Welcome.
Remember to keep focused on D&D folk 😉 We have #non-dnd-topics as a chill space to chat whatever.
Thinking on the deluge and weirdness of all the 'I was isekaied into a fantasy world as a X' media, where some nerd wakes up in what would be a traditional portal power fantasy, except they're stuck in the body of magical wombat-
If you were 'reincarnated as an X' in any D&D setting of your choice, what non-humanoid creature would you hope (or find fun) to wake up as?
Does anyone know if neverwinter the mmo is a good entry into dungeons and dragons before trying the table top rpg? I start dnd on Tuesday and looking to familiarize myself at least a little before hand
Or would you say baldurs gate 3 does a better job? I have bg3 but have not tried it much yet
Dragon's pretty much a given power fantasy, but still going to be tricky. Adult or wyrmling? Do you have a territory or rival?
BG3 is based on 5e, the most current edition, and has a pretty decent feel of the classes and mechanics. It's not a bad entry way.
NWN the MMO is based more on 4e- Although I haven't actually played it, so can't vouch for how well it captures the rules and mechanics. As an MMO that's... not that roleplay focused, I'd say it captures the feeling less than BG3.
Honestly, I'd say just focus more on your character, more than trying to learn/play a different medium before the game.
Kk Ty I appreciate it I will learn how to make a character on Tuesday as I paid for a 101 course that lasts 4 sessions over course of January
So many novels are based on DnD that I'm starting to believe some authors idea of magic was just overwritten by DND rulebook
Still going back forth in my head if I want to start as wizard or rogue or something else entirely I like idea of playing a support character that does a mix of improving the other characters and crowd control stuff that levels playing field so maybe a bard? I’m not too familiar with the classes
I like idea of being a character that is on the side of other players helping in supportive ways rather than rushing forward as a hero or a tank or even a healer
Bard is all about buffing/debuffing. Support, crowd control, great in RP situations. Bard would likely be a good fit for what you are looking for.
Awesome good to know thanks
You could also do druid or cleric. And artificer has some good support builds too.
Hey is the site down?
Some folks were reporting issues earlier.
BG3 is a good intro to 5e yeah. Neverwinter isn’t as good because it’s based on 4e and it has fewer options (iirc it only has like 8 classes) but it’s not a bad mmo imo
And yeah if you want a cc support type character bard is probably your best bet
what do ppl recommend doing about beast master ranger ('24) having to use their bonus action to command their primal companion when casting/moving hunter's mark is a bonus action also
seems like it's both bad and unfun
Bonus Action economy, I suppose.
Well during the time that you need to move the mark, I just use that as my BA and have the beastie dodge. Most of the time as a ranger, I didn't need to use my bonus action. I only mark high threats, not minions. If there is no high threat, I normally don't use Hunters Mark. There are a lot of great ranger concen spells.
The bottleneck is real. It’s a little better at 5th level where you can sacrifice one of your attacks to have the beast attack and still attack with your weapon as well. But it’s not really ideal.
My advice: don’t put hunter’s mark on an enemy you think is going to go down in the next round. Try to make sure you’re able to keep it on the same enemy for a bit.
ty all
It gets a little better still at 11th level, where the beast attacks twice when it attacks. Sacrificing one of your two attacks to get two attacks from the beast and keeping your BA free for hunter’s mark is a pretty decent trade off.
so, hunter mark the heaviest enemy or tank
or use zephyr strike, its good
Shame that mage armor dont need concentration but Zephyr and hunters mark does
I’m not a hater on hunter’s mark. I did think the class’ reliance on it is a little disappointing. Though it would be better if the subclasses all had unique interactions with it. Beast master letting the beast take advantage of it is nice. Hunter getting additional details about the marked creature is also cool, if relatively minor. But fey wandered and gloom stalker get nothing.
I wish every 2024 ranger subclass got updated to have a secondary reason to use HM. It would make the spell way more worthwhile. And more Ranger-exclusive since WOTC really wanted to focus on HM for some reason.
Like the new horror subclass for Ranger will get buffs when they concentrate on HM.
Winter Walker’s extra hunter’s mark stuff is nice. D10 + ranger level temp hp on cast and the target cannot disengage. That’s not bad.
Oh yeah that too. Winter Walker got a cool thing.
Maybe Drakewarden will get something. We won't know yet.
And it gets better at 15th level.
Hey is dnd beyond down? I can’t load anything I can’t even get on the page
It is for some people.
Awww
Working for me. Might be region based.
Hollow Warden has some prety interesting interactions with HM, though it's still UA
Yeah, it’s weird the the player’s handbook subclasses only barely interact with HM, but all the new stuff looks to be going all in on it.
I dont think there would be as many complaints about it if the 4 subclasses from the player’s handbook interacted better with it.
Id rather not be forced to use HM at all if I want to make the most out of my subclass. dont punish casters for wanting to use different spells.
it should really just be a base class feature honestly
give ranger advantage on rolls to track things down and give them the ability to like make called shots or something
Im fine with the current stuff they are doing with ranger subs
Where some tie into HM and others don't
People are complaining about the interactions that do exist, so thats unlikely
To be fair, this isn’t just a ranger thing. Druid subclasses all interact differently with wildshape, bard subclasses with bardic inspiration, etc. They’re looking at HM as ranger’s expendable resource nowadays.
Not saying that’s a great thing. But it does look like how they’re treating it.
non of the features you mention are concentration. Even a moon druid's wildshape goes out of its way to interfere with spellcasting less than usual
Agreed. Not saying it’s a great decision to do it this way. But it seems to be the decision that was made.
yeah its not gonna change now, but I can still be salty about the design decisions for ranger
tbf, with the two a day free casts and the ability to use spell slots to use it beyond that; it's effectively the same catagory of resource now
Yeah, the decision to play a ranger or not really shouldn’t be based on whether you want to use one spell all the time.
Hell, even warlocks can add their benefits to different cantrips now. They’re no longer required to be just eldritch blasting all day.
That’s what I was getting at. And more uses as you level.
see, I prefer pact of the blade to EB, I like my casters a bit martial
nothing wrong with that.
the full casters aren't martial enough and the half casters aren't caster enough so I end up having to MC
I think the biggest issue with this is Wild Shape isn't a spell everyone can yoink through feats. Nor is bardic inspiration. Or rage. Or channel divinities (in RAW sources).
But Hunters Mark is.
Ranger needs its own thing and it doesn't have that.
Is there a feat that lets you young HM?
Yeah. Fey Touched feat.
Ah.
You can play a spellcaster effectively with HM. Probably better than Ranger can pull off as well.
warlock also has hex which does similar, but necrotic is a worse damage type
But hex also gives dis on saves you choose
dis on checks, need an invocation to make it do saves
Oh right my bad
but I'm not a huge fan of either spell regardless
Also Hex does Necrotic damage which is commonly resisted the higher in levels you get
Hunter’s Mark does force.
yep, like I said, necrotic is way worse
especially because force is basicly the new 'magical damage' in regards to resistances
Only thing off the top of my head that can resist force is Amethyst Dragons
Hey, what are your thoughts on Summon beast? I’m playing an Illusionist wizard and about to get it at 6th level.
It’s useful to have. Not a big game changer but useful
I was wondering about upcast potential. As a level 8 spell, it gets 4 attacks that don’t cost your bonus action or action to do… So you’d still get your whole turn. And the air version has flyby. Swoop in, attack 4 times, fly out.
also be sure to pick up the casting component
It’s alright. There are stronger Summoning spells
I don't know that thats the ideal use of an 8th level spell slot
I know 8th level is a steep price for it. But if all 4 attacks hit, its 66 average damage with no action economy cost… Can still disintegrate or whatever on top of that.
Usually people don't look towards the wizard for damage dealing
If you hit, with probably a plus 11-13 at that level…
Also it is concentration too.
I think these summon spells kinda top off at 6th level
The concentration is unfortunate.
actual 8th level spells are just way better
You're totally free to do it but it definitely isn't the best way to spend an 8th level spell slot if that's what you were thinking
I’m really looking to double down on the illusion flavor for this character. Less concerned about optimization. So I really just want to squeeze what usefulness I can out of the features it comes with.
You could also just cast other illusion spells
I intend to. But truthfully, theres not a lot of great illusions at higher levels.
There is an 8th level illusion to make a dragon that’s immune to damage
Hello people
its more about variety
Sorc is adaptabilty
warlock is the one about dealing high numbers of damage
hi there dope
Yeah and warlocks don't do much they just like big numbers
mine does but mine's a druid
They will always be asking for a short rest
true
Forgot that one. I’ve got legacy content disabled on this character for some reason. Thanks.
you can build any class for high damage, and wizards dont even need to put a lot of effort in
that is the thing, with warlock you must save spells
With wizard you can have some utility in general. Helps, buffs, heals//T.hp, etc.
It’s not legacy content
It’s expanded content.
Legacy is the stuff that has been updated
Sorry, that’s what I meant. I had the 2014 expanded rules disabled.
That's why I like splashed warlock, gives you a nice little bundle of passive abilities, some decent spells, and access to a bunch of different stuff depending on what invocations you pick up
i feel that sorc can do it more in one turn, more knowing that they can make a spell cast it like a bonus action and then cast for action another. If you mix that you can make
A: 2 spells of high damage
B: 2 debuffs to the enemy
C: Debuff for perfectly landing the damage spell
etc.
I like the idea of a warlock sniper
that's what I'm doing
It’s not 2014 exclusive it’s still under expanded as well
After reading the concept of some sort of cursed slinger (Warlock flavoring pact of blade and using eldritch blasts like bullets of that gun), i feel like i need to play that
if a sorcerer uses quickened spell, their action cant be another leveled spell so the impact is pretty limited
okey okey
That’s for basically legacy content that is also expanded
There’s a toggle on DNDBeyond when you create a character for both the 2024 expanded content and the 2014 expanded content. Had 2014 disabled.
I'm running longbow via pact of the blade instead of an EB build though
damn, then it ruined my idea
Heck yeah it's a fun way to run it I run mine with pull and push with the vine overgrowth to make the Eldritch cheese grater
EB is likely better and I have to jump through way too many hoops to make it work but I like it so
EB best cantrip
there are som advantages of longbow vs eldritch blast on a warlock
also missing third attack by not going to warlock 12 but druid gives me 2d8 once per ea/ of my turns on a hit via primal strike to make up for it a bit so not too broken up about it
longer ranger, different damage types, eldritch smite, weapon masteries (if you invest in that), Great weapon master, sharpshooter etc
also lots of nice spellcasting and such
That's honestly fair I don't care for DND 1 myself so I will stick to 5e I switched from 3.5 to 5e when it came out I don't feel like learning a new DND again I'll learn other ttrpgs
ye going sharpshooter, GWM, and will see if I can pick up a vicious longbow eventually
it's nice because improved pact weapon make's it a +1 weapon as well
also it's only a rare item so not terribly difficult to locate vs other options
I might take magic initiate (human free feat) with a wizard im going to use and get cleric spells, at first guiding bolt.
Later healing prayers for the short rest benefits
Yes that's a good idea also if your gonna take a cleric cantrip might I suggest sacred flame
prayer of healing is second level
or is this 2014 stuff
Its a decent cantrip for starting
I don't think you can get Prayer of Healing unless you take the Mark of Healing from the new Eberron book.
taking resistance//mending//other stuff so i dont mixmax too much
2024, i cant take later a lvl 2 spell from it?
That's fair mending is op especially if the dm doesn't track components
no, only first level
Druid is good, can grab guidance, goodberry/cure wounds, and like starry wisp, shillelagh, or one of the very nice utility cantrips
the other options are alert or the other 2 magic initiatives
oh, let me check if i can
wow, cleric has so few cantrips O_o
thaumaturgy means you can remotely check if a door is locked or trigger a trap by opening it from afar.
true, i still use mage hand. Find it fitting//useuful for my character
yep but too good spells, even at lvl 1
being able to remotely slam a door in an enemy's face is satisfying too.
anyone else having difficulty with dnd beyond homebrew creation or the website itself seems off and very slow as of today ?
dndbeyond's having some issues in general at the moment
i was actually just about to ask this. i am also having issues loading certain pages of the website
Hey anyone willing to start a campaign with me and my friend we need a dm and one or two players
good luck buddy, im already filled
Visit #find-a-game for everything you need to start your search, including:
- Instructions for finding a game here on the server (including how to post in our #looking-for channels).
- Suggestions for finding a game outside of this server.
- Basic advice to help you in your hunt.
I will be in a "speedrun" module, 3 sessions per week
that sounds amazing
for me and my addict booty that want to play a lot, it does
and selecting a module so he doenst have to think too much the story and other stuff help a lot
Hi
howdy
Howdy conqueror
I have no idea what I’m doing I just started with this stuff. I’ve tried before and I’m trying again.
Wahzzup
That's always ok new people is how hobbies don't die
Read up on the first few chapters of the free basic rules on #learn-to-play , and feel free to ask any questions you might have. Then, make a practice character and get it reviewed in #character-discussion .
Once you’re ready and got the fundamentals down, you can check out #find-a-game for information on how to find a group online. To make a post, type the appropriate command in any chat channel.
Oh, and if you need help the folks in #dnd-newcomers should help you
Oh Thanks that’s helpful I’m trying to 3-D print stuff like terrain and characters
so im using Guidance, Spare the dying and finally Guiding bolt at the end of the day. Utility, saving and dps.
Respectable choices
and i can use spare the dying at 15 feets so im in a comfy position
generally want at least 1 person in the party to have guidance and it might as well be you
and eventually at 120~
wont abuse it honestly, just 1 or 2 times
I’m gonna sit over here and not understand anything of what’s happening
People just choosing spells
you should though c:
any time it makes naritive sense to use, use it
Me at the other side of the map: "Hey, get the F%&$*k up!!"
They're talking about what spells and cantrips they should take
Also hi gonna go sit here, I’m
nugget
like you wouldn't in front of someone for a converstaion, if sneaking, or for stuff like random perception checks or that you're surprised with
I know we got a homebrew section but does anyone wanna hear about my nanobots
but if it's something you're character would like be preparing for mentally, they could fire off a quick guidance
Yeah Guidance is strong, cuz a d4 to ability checks is nice, but it’s not foolproof.
I think that hi was a response to my message. I just signed up for Discord like 10 minutes ago. I’m sort of confused but hi as well. I’m Kato
It’s was a dad joke, but yes
will use it for few stuff, for talk with people no
nice little bonus to help things along potentially, at the cost of a cantrip slot
Yupadoo. Give your pals some words of advice before they do a backflip.
I really expected to come into this chat and everyone to scream at me that has not happened yet instead everybody’s really nice but every time I’ve ever been in a group chat all that has ever happened somebody scream so this is kind of a weird
also good to have it on 2 players in case one of you needs to concentrate on something else; but 1 is enough in most cases.
Nahhhh. We chill.
For the most part
Good to know
Remember, if you ever need help, just ask! Though probably in #dnd-newcomers .
Yeah, what’s your opinion on 3-D printed terrain
super cool, especially once painted <3
double especially if modular
Being in this server helped reinforce my knowledge of the game.
Oh 3d printing? Very cool if you’ve got the time and dedication.
Well, good thing I’ve got a lot of time on my hand and I have a 3-D printers
Just finished ST and wanna get back to DND….
I’ve only 3d printed once in my life and though I greatly enjoyed the design the execution and painting was…too much for my three brain cells
I’m working on trying to build a board or dungeon thing or something. I’m really confused.
Yo, I need some advice for a character. not sure who to ask but I figured I should ask around.
I wanna play DND online but don’t know how to find players
Sure! Ask #character-discussion
Thanks
I personally think turning my +6 bonus into a +1 bonus for a flat +10 to damage rolls is worth it.
You all use foundry?
Ah I see your used to neck beards
#find-a-game should have the info you need. Type /looking-for players to make a post and look around in #looking-for-dm .
Don’t know what that means but sure
I use beyond and roll 20, beyond 20 add on too.
be glad you don't
I am
Yeah because I do all to well tried joining a discord about DND and was told I wouldn't fit in because I said people should be allowed to play for fun not just min max or power build
Nugget, I sent you a friend request because you’ve been very nice and helpful
Everyone here has been nice and helpful
That's what the dnd community as whole strives for
I expected this to be chaotic
No need, you can DM me stuff but I don’t accept many friend requests unless I’ve known them.
But we can still be friends on the server
Oh I can be chaotic
That’s fine. I just didn’t know how to save your account so I don’t lose it by accident.
I play warlocks
Like I said, I’ve been on here for literally 10 minutes
Do you DM games for newbies?
Warlocks now I’m confused
Me ? If so yes
I do
Warlock is a class in DND they're a spell caster
Boy, I’m getting more confused by the second I must sound like an idiot
I just made a Foundry account and uh…not sure where’ to go now
To be specific they're called the sugar daddy class
Just to be clear, are the Dragonmarks AL-legal even outside of Eberron scenarios?
They’re a dnd class. They get their power from a powerful “patron”, such as a fiend, celestial, or eldritch abomination (Great Old One)
OK, could someone explain what a beholder is cause I 3-D printed one cause it looks like it would be fun to paint
Nah you just sound new. I do recommend you read the Free Basic Rules tho, just the chapters Playing The Game and Character Creation
Any places recommended to find games?
I will read them if I can remember to I may forget
#find-a-game will tell you how our looking for channels work
Kato may I dm
"hey, you can do this, i trust on you", proceed to nail i perfectly with my moral support
I don’t mind
Beholders are malice and arrogance made flesh. Floating orbs of eyes and cruelty whose eye rays can paralyze a man or send him running to his wetnurse. That’s if they survive. Or so the legends say.
Yeah, sure
I think everybody just left the chat or something ???
Still here
It has its ups and downs of being busy
I was in #character-discussion
people Yay
I'm just waiting for a topic I like to be brought up
Anyway, the truth is I tried Warhammer and I felt like I was painting the same thing over and over again and I need something new to do so I figured I would try DND plus the beholder looks like it would be fun to paint
I'm just building my homebrew
Hi just building my homebrew, I’m Nugget
I was waiting for you
Makes sense
I wonder can you send photos in this chat?
You cannot
Hi nugget I'm becoming senator Armstrong
Nano machines son
You can however go to the art channels, and post there
Nope
That’s too bad I thought you could I was gonna send a photo of the beholder 3-D printed see what people thought and if it was a good mini
But #dnd-arts-and-crafts is made for that
Send it there
Go to #dnd-arts-and-crafts
Guess I just... Echo'ed your words
Helll yeahhhh
I’m guessing that’s supposed to be a joke
It is
This is random, but can I make my cat a character?
As a playable character? No, as your character's pet? Probably
make a wizard with a cat familiar
You can however play a druid and use wildshape to turn into a feline, if I'm not wrong
Or you could play a tabaxi
Wow, this is getting weirder
Which are similar to kajiht if you play elder scrolls
yep, cat is a cr0 beast
Should be Cr30
Basically yes and no they're are ways to do it but you can't play as a cat
also a very solid form for early game to get into places and move around and such
what are their purpose? Owl bear
Either you can turn into your cat, or you can make your cat more humanoid
Cat player? Yes. Roll some dice to generate a character
Please do not do the latter
It’s just a tabaxi
I’ll try
my sibling made a tabaxi taht was an experimented on stray cat made humanoid by a wizard trying to save on labor costs
That sounds terrifying
ikr
Yeah but why a cat, why pick one of the most stubborn things in existence
Cause I like my cat
it's what the wizard had on hand
I don’t know could be a frog or an owl bear Really wish someone would explain those
a frog is a frog? an owlbear is more a moon druid thing as it is higher level
What?
An owl bear is something like a bear with owl features
plot: lost
druid can turn into animals
many casters can have magic pets that give bonuses
The body of a bear, with the head being an owl
an owlbear is a certain type of monster that ... this
no druid can wild shape into an owlbear
you're right, it's a monstrosity >.>
WotC give us cool druids that can turn into plants and elementals and maybe monstrosities again
Sounds like a fun one
You can check out this link to see the most recent owlbear art.

when dndbeyond is back up
, been issues with it for a hot minute
given that im currently accessing it... right now
you're good then, it's a regional outage
It's a problem for others, and okay for the rest
Actually, things are pretty slow but I can't tell if that's just my local internet haha
Once it loads I can connect without issue so I reckon it's just local. No beholders spotted
My group's just been waiting for the first session, and I've been going insane playing wordle in the VC everyday
I had one
earlier
I have to take stuff off the 3-D printer bed I have an executioner mini that just finished printing.
Scheduling, my biggest enemy
This is largely why I don't play D&D with others unless it's through NWN servers or DDO.
I don't mind, though, since I can take things at my own pace as my own DM
online AL is nice for getting some quick games likely to fire at least
What is everybody have a hatred for AI being used in the campaigns? Can someone explain that?
No way, I'm all for it, as long as it's actually productive and not just a corpo tool to grab at profit.
Sure, scheduling can be tricky...but my biggest enemy right now is D&D beyond giving me error "504 Gateway Time-out" when I try to edit my homebrew stuff 😢
I haven’t used it to make a campaign yet, but I figured I would because I don’t have time to write this
Well first of all this server is fairly anti AI
guys how do u play dnd
improv and note taking with like a general outline of what you want to move players toward can be a bit easier than a fully planned session if you've the skills for it
Oh right, you just reminded me of AI Dungeon's system
I use AI to write it and then I rewrite it
AI = the death of creativity
for the record, AL is Adventurers League; formerly Organized Play
I don’t agree with that. I think that AI help creativity. At least for me as an artist.
AI's just another tool to make use of.
I wouldn’t have produced a single and gotten it published last week if it hadn’t been for AI‘s help with teaching me how to use reverb
AI is like searching on Google.. just faster
AI ruins creativity
AI is but a tool
Some people are just lazy and use it to do everything for them to me AI is just a tool
well, sorry - generative AI that scrapes other people's stuff ruins creativity. that's like saying theft is just a way to buy things
AI is like a co-writer or a producer that helps me
there's all kinds of AI that does work as a tool, like spell checks, etc.
I still do everything on my own. It just helps move it along.
if you don't want to create an adventure plot, you can just search the internet for a good one and then reassemble it for your needs... with AI you do it with just few clicks
you don't do everything on your own, if you're using generative AI. I know it's not easy to come to terms with, but it is stealing other peoples' creativity to cut corners on the effort part of creation
and you get to burn the world for the privelege
which is part of why I'm so happy that WOTC doesn't allow posting of AI generated content on this discord server 🙂
guys whats the best class to use for ur character if u just started playing dnd
That's what I mean, using it solely
I’m done I came here to talk about Dungeons & Dragons not discuss AI
bye!
Fighter, Paladin, or Cleric
I’m not leaving the chat
what kind of fantasy are you interested in?
I’m just done with the conversation of AI
head to #dnd-newcomers 🙂
That’s fine, Les move to another topic
I would use a Paladin, some healings, good fighting, moral lock
Anyway, what’s the best mini I could print for my DND stuff?
I dont even know how too play yet but google said i needed to make a character
best check #dnd-newcomers then!
thank u
Is anyone else having issues accessing beyond on their computer?
there's a lot of great stls you can buy from artists on cults3d or similar sites
I use bamboo and thingy verse
I’ve bought files before, but when I’m the one who still has to paint it and print it, I prefer to just use free files
yeah, you could comission one of the artists if you want a custom one or buy one you like the look of
I'm sure there's good free ones too
Isn’t there some website where you can make your own?
heroforge, but you have to purchase the stls you make
How much?
Good.
I don't know, it's been years since I've bought from them
titancraft?
OK, Walmart to look into that depends on what the price is if it’s like a dollar for my own custom character I’m good but still I’ve been printing some free ones I found they’re pretty nice. I got an execution a traveling stranger and a beholder printed.
I think it was like 18 bucks?
Wow, that’s a lot for an STL
I mean it is using a tool they developed, to build out whatever you want so it'll print properly
Anyone else getting gateway timeouts from DDB?
it's your choice of course
Yeah, I think I’ll use the free ones
Well, I’m leaving chat it’s been fun people happy new year
cheers
Multiple others have said the same thing here, you're not alone,so I guess you'll just have to wait and see if it resolves
Yeah I’ve been getting them all day. Planned a whole campaign yesterday and now we can’t play :/
Hopefully it gets resolved soon!
Yeah, it's a server-side issue. Very annoying. I have subclasses to tweak (significantly) after play-testing
My guess it has something to do with backend stuff and the new year
is anyone having problems with dndbeyond not working
I am also unable to open my source books on DDB. My game starts in 50 minutes.
been talk in here of a regional outage
they are forcing me to... actually READ?!
No problem here. Using the app though
should if you swap to an area outside it
I use "Web Highlights" to highlight areas of the books. I can't highlight inside the app. I need the damn website to work.
yeah the app works it's just slow
Did yall watch the STRANGER THINGS FINALE.?
I've never watched that series
Fair.
Watched. Yeah.
Finished. Not yet
Welcome to the fallacy of buying digital content. The servers go down you're screwed.
Be that as it may, it is easier to play online with digital content
captain obvious says obvious things lol
Like I know the mods and the sysadmins will look at my frustration and roll their eyes.
The truth is this weekly game is a big part of my life. Whatever they did to break this should have been done NOT during prime time.
I work in tech. The number of deployments I do that are deeply inconvenient to my personal life is astounding.
You can own books but not the digital releases
It's more than just that. I rely on the Maps VTT and the character sheets. The entire site seems to be having stability issues.
My players live in four different states.
it was working fine before new year's day
be real cool if you could just buy the physical books and they'd send you an online code that works with any of their partnered VTTs but then they couldn't sell you the same product 3 times
I am probably going to have to cancel my game tonight.
I hate that I'm so invested in Beyond. I may need to switch to a different system entirely.
Sometimes technology fails us. Like losing your vehicle's transmission in the middle of North Dakota.
It sucks. But it can be repaired.
Here's the best part... They're gaslighting us and saying it's all okay.
https://status.dndbeyond.com/
I wish everyone didn't latch on to "Gaslighting" as a term for anything that may not be accurate
The services are technically up but experiencing degraded performance - but until the techs diagnose and fix it, not much we can do.
I have screenshots of it saying "It's All Operational!"
an automated system not working properly isn't gaslighting lmao. there isn't some devious WOTC employee pressing the "Green" button
I'm just ready for the year ahead of us and more SAC
take a deep breath it's technical issues lol
"We're sorry; your vehicle has lost its connection to our servers and we cannot verify the status of your 'working breaks' subscrption. Please try again later~."
Dave... It's not automated. I have worked on the other side of this. It's updated manually.
Could this be another AWS thing?
no it's definitely gaslighting
I don't think it's specifically AWS issues but they could play a part in it.
they're lying to us! because it will make them more money somehow!
But again, until the techs look into it and resolve it, not much we can do. It sucks. But that's where we're at.
could be the host, could be their DNS provider, could be the server farm everything is housed at, could be some issue in the wider internet somewhere, any number of things really
stuff happening on national holidays is usually not fixed immediately especially when it's not critical infrastructure
I'm just wondering if it has to due with the new year and the change that brings to the time
it's y2k all over again!!!
Interesting theory but until the techs dig into it we really don't know the cause nor can the moderation team fix it for you.
Oh right that thing happend
It's a 504 gateway timeout. It's not mystical. The servers are just straight up not responding.
we got another like 12 years for that at least, unix time apocolypse isn't until 2038
Someone needs to wake up the hamster.
The hamster ?
and the most important thing is that they're gaslighting you, lying to squeeze profit out of you being unable to buy things on their platform
Traditional power source for servers.
yes, boo is working overtime
No, but they are lying to cover their incompetence. There's a difference between those things. There's not even an acknowledgement from anyone official that this is happening.
The Hampocalolypse is upon us! Long live the Hamster Revolution!
What's happening?
gotta get buff so Minsk can throw him at some poor unsuspecting planeswalker
I meant here are literally wotc employees here in the discord who have acknowledged it haha
Guys, I wanted to share a cool fact
I would be dramatically less angry if they acknowledged the problem and told us what's currently happening to fix it.
Also, they keep a Behir locked up instead of a hamster
dndbeyond servers are wonky atm
The Hamsters are revolting. Refusing to work for the bourgeoisie capitalist imperialist tech oligarchs.
mostly not responding
Y2k is happening all over again
My dm is letting me use UA unearthly chorus to play my fav songs canonically into our campaign, I low-key whould sacrifice a kidney for him
definitely need to bring people in on a national holiday to issue a statement
Might be adding a big update, something to do with you know, announcements for upincoming stuff?
Idk, I'm using hte site and its completely fine for me
It's a regional thing
Lot's of us work on holidays.
@twilit ginkgo @severe rampart bard brethren
Dyno seems to be on a break as well
c'mon early Dark Sun release date
Ah regional updates then, most likely going to have some sort of new stuff to post dates for after the start of the new year. We shall see! Won't take too long I imagine, plus I mean, doubt they are wanting to disrupt everyone on purpose lol
dyno's working fine 🙂
Thank you Dyno, appreciate it
Psion is expected to be my 2nd favorite class, so I'd like that
Please be mindful of server rules and avoid inflammatory statements like this. There's a tech issue. It's impacting your game. We understand the frustration but we literally can't do anything until the techs fix it.
Circle of Preservation druid is my ideal druid
Oh... hey, I just realised... is anyone who is experiencing this issue from a region that has age restriction laws coming into effect?
Dyno runs on hamsters with haste casted on them
I'm in Aus so, that's me.
Thought you were talking about the UK, mate
Aus and UK both.
I'm in Asia and it's working perfectly fine for me
DDK I updated my stuff right away so I don't think that's it. it's a theory tho
that is one I hoped they changed, cause I don't want Twilight Domain Druid personally, Druid needs some love rn, especially because they have no 2024 legendary items they can use besides a rod of resurrection.
Or.. any legendary items actually lol
I updated as well but still kept getting the message telling me to update.
Gosh "casted"...it's just "cast" people!
I like Moon Druid. Just doubling down on a Class feature is so nice.
Though my favorite is Spores for Animate Dead
Okey my cat is beeing stupid
Common lingo mistake
sadly, moon druid is my least favorite druid
What if cast meant the thing for broken bones all along
Algiz orange cat?
To each their own! Cheers!
Can someone here convince me that Land Druid is a good subclass? Please? Cause like, it feels so sub-par compared to the other subclasses, mostly due to the short lived wild shape alternative that feels so very small.
I posted that we were aware of the site issues and that the team was working to address and resolve them in #ddb-support. There are no site team members here to address your issues further. How else can I help you at this stage?
I like it though, some nice temp hp, a bit of damage and slows, and some other interesting buffs like con saves and curing status effects
Wanna see?
Land Druid is great in an exploration based campaign
they get good spells. It's probably better than circle of the seas for its level 6
Yeah, if you've done it already don't worry. The message is automatic.
also really like the lesser/greater restoration focus
'24 Land Druid is good! Once a day free casting! Yes please.
Plus, its available in SRD
What the funniest mass suggestion or suggestion have you guys done?
and like, bless and sanctuary are both really nice
Oh my, it's like the amount of people in general grew three sizes
some of the later spells are kinda meh though
I have not played a game as of yet, I am going insane
Or you under suggestion, that is “don’t play dnd until you are truly insane”
There's also a one-shot that's currently not guaranteed to happen but MIGHT happen, and I am clinging to that copium
haven't gotten to cast either yet >.>
Me neither
I'm pretty sure the first campaign is designed to turn players insane
not funniest, but most epic: telling a young red dragon to leave its lair and not come after us
Out of principle, I steer away from Spells of Enchantment School.
That's next to Ranged Spell Attacks
Ah, I finally found that. Looks like you posted that a little over two hours ago. So the team has known for a minimum of two hours and the status page still says everything is okie-dokie.
...And I'm being called out for being "inflamatory" for saying they're intentionally misrepresenting the situation by not updating the status page.
I won't say anything further. Peace.
I would have said give us your cave and leave to open a candy shop
I don't want that dragon's candy. our definitions might be...different
honestly as someone in critical infrastructure it is hilarious how offended you are about a luxury here my guy. it's new year's day. have some relaxation
and saying something's intentional is a bit of a stretch. even for mr. fantastic

I'm in my cozy mood
And this is why people say to take things in moderation! Or else it'll ruin your mood when you don't get it seemingly.
Anywho, can't wait for Psion!
Fluffy cat warm house under a blankie, I might just make myself a cup of hot chocolate
Though I hope Defiler Sorc got a nice little update to it, since it felt a bit lackluster trying to make their abilities work without pumping out a ton of sorc points to maintain temp hp.
just want preservation druid and for it to be AL leagal for the FR campaign
Ah right, how does someone aquire a magic infused tattoo?
finding one in your adventurers or buying one if allowed by your dm
Your GM gives it to you 😉
Hey, is DDB down rn?
At the magic tattoo shop
Does the dm just have "gandalf the magical tattoo artist"
yeah they're aware of it Hermes
i'm making an announcement about that presently. for now, you can see what's up on the status page: https://status.dndbeyond.com/
They're magic needles that you press to your skin and they melt into/form the tatoo as you attune to them
Ah so basically just jam a needle in my arm for a couple hours and then I'm good to go?
Thats cool
So, Poisoner seems like a pretty good feat, looking at it
It’s…aight
Just hope there's a way to overcome poison immunities too
Is there a way to overcome an immunity?
Very cool thematically, which is why I’m gonna use it on my mercy monk that uses syringes. But it’s aight
Not unless a feature explicitly says so
Nothing like magic items that can do that?
Tis the problem. The bigger issue is poison immunity, not resistance. And immunity is EXTREMELY hard to overcome.
Ik there are ways to ignore resistance, but immunities are much harder to tackle
and poision is a reletively common one
That's why spells are so diverse. and there's force damage
Yeah, I kind of figured. The upside of Poisoner was mostly "If it's Neutral or resistant, no problem. If it's immune, it's likely undead and I stick close to Paladin"
Like, even if undead is common in CoS, then I'm sure there's plenty of human enemies to attack
That's why I have this feature for my homebrew subclass that specializes in specific damage types (wizard), such as Poison:
"Trigger: When one of your Spells deals one of your Chosen Element’s damage types to a creature. Response: You can immediately take an Action, Bonus Action, or Reaction to ignore that creature’s Resistance to that damage type for this instance of damage. If the creature has Immunity to that damage type, you can change that damage type to Force damage for this instance of damage instead."
Heck, after some time in tier 2, I can probably come across a musket and silvered ammunition, at least
5e 2024 has the ranged weapons be silvered instead of hte ammunition
but also silvered weapons are a distinct item now and not an add on property
Ranger is currently in 2014 campaign
Hi, dunno if this is the right place to ask but does anyone have links to specific picrews they like to use for DND characters?
My human cultist of a local beholder was a specialist in Enchantment. As the beholder's public face, she was a well-treated minion despite being under mind control herself (not that she minded), and readily plied her magics for the cult's aims on those whom could be of benefit, such as traders and minor political figures.
