Idk who that is but have fun
i heard a rumor girl
tips fedora,
"I know."
wink, whirl, and leave.
Oh yeah
and the pillow man
Using web because it's such a broken spell but playing an arachnophobic character must be fun
22 minutes since a new post in this channel. Is that a new record?
Me and my friend need a dungeon master
Check out #find-a-game to learn how to use our Looking For Game channels
Is there a known webside i can use to find some puzzles for my campaign ?
Finished reading the entire Heroes of Faerun Book. I love it and wish i had it 3 years ago when i started D&D
I think there's some 3rd-party puzzles/traps books for sale on DMsGuild/RPGDriveThru.
But also you can check with folks in #dm-discussion for ideas.
Absolute cinema
Hi everyone!!
If I was asking for recommendations for subclass/class recommendations based on a concept (but open to third party/homebrew) what do you think would be the best channel for that?
Thank you so much!!! 😄
I find it interesting that you can hold a two handed with one hand, then draw out a focus when need be
Interesting...how?
okay, theoretical, devils typically regenerate after turning into ash, what if you encase their corpse with the amber spell? and what if you dismembered a portion of the devil and then sealed that in amber? would it be a way to prevent their reanimation?
A two-handed weapon only needs to be used two-handed when hitting with it.
That's where I was going, but asked the OP for clarification
Even IRL, you can hold a 2h in 1h, but to use it effectively...
Plus it not really mention in the rule book either
Yup
That you can hold it with one hand
(And yes I know you need two hands to attack with two handed weapons)
hello
guys i kinda want to learn new language like to be fluent
like spanish or greek or even chinese
Irl
yea i would fancy a new language
Right?
Learning new languages for D&D like chessentan, aglarondan, damaran or mulhorandi
Imagine being a Warlock and getting your Patron a birthday gift
"Ah, yeah, I'm broke, got absolutely sloshed with the lads at the pub last night, blew my money on cheap whiskey... but I made you this macaroni art that says "I love you!""
And then some elder being puts it on their cosmic fridge
What would be the reaction of my Aboleth Patron
It be even funnier if it had a marriage ring in the middle
Name checks out
Dear compatriots, I bid you a society-permissible relinquishment of daytime's responsibilities, thereby ushering in the nocturnal epoch.
Insert Chesire Cat-like grin here
What you think Tokii?
It is my utmost pleasure to signify to you that I shall have the felicity of reuniting with you on the morrow, dear compatriots.
Anywho, I get to play more of my ✨ Zesty ✨ and ✨ Sexy ✨
Owlin ✨ Glamour ✨ Bard tonight, it's gonna be peak.
let me translate
In point of fact, I shall have the inestimable pleasure of engaging in a most thrilling night of artistic expression as a Zesty and Sexy Owlin Glamour Bard, wherein I shall undoubtedly reach the zenith of professional prominence.
I hope to play my Sailor Sheriff Harpoon (Halberd )Hunter Ranger someday
I had my Icewind Dale campaign today and used an hook from the new adventure Faerun book to meet Vellynne Harpell again
Caspian Goldengale is the finest and most astute owlin gentleman in all of the realms 🧐
That’s a stellar name
He's a bad [Censored] and he knows it.
Should we do rate the character names?
Oh ok
I’m down
10/10 especially for a bard
I go first Fadon Afficonnet (Aasimar Wild Barbarian)
Rozin Holassy (Haregon Bladesinger Wizard)
Clank the passionate Ace (Tabaxi Kensei Monk)
Tristan Groingin Mallory (human Celstial warlock)
Logot (Plasmoid shadow sorcerer)
Sharna Allayway (Human Valor Bard)
Jabal Sakhir
Sovis Cova
Caspian Goldengale
Artanza
Malaketh Dronnel
Phengari Asteri
Orizontas
These are some of my current fellows
Well, Jabal is.. deceased, alas 😔
Sovis Cova is his replacement
Karkas the Indomitable
Tiefling War Cleric who lead an army under the name of Hoar the Doombringer, got tired of a Lich killing his troops and he kicked the liches ass (got the final hit on its physical body) this was a level 20 oneshot character lmao
Go ahead and rate these
I like Malaketh and Phengari Asteri
He was also that parties only Frontliner and he had 7 damage resistances lmao
Who needs a Barbarian when you've got a kickass battle Cleric?
Your names seem more unique in comparison to mine
I kid you not.
My current tiefling celestial warlock is named Tymirias Hawthorne.
Cousin?
Lmao
Multiverse Family
guys do yall know whos diego from TUA?
Is Tymirias in Faerun or other setting?
Oh dear
Aelith Starwind, and Silvia Noxly are two characters I did for an interview
Oh dear indeed.
Caspian,Phengari, and Karkas are my picks
anyone?
Aelith Starwind is awesome
No
imagine Batman but aim lower
Cova, Caspian, and Artanza
He’s currently in a decent into Avernus campaign
So faerun yeah
We also have some of my past fellas:
Sumatra
Vanguard
Vaskhir
Nosvin Ironskull (Minotaur for reference)
Auronoth
I've got more fellas, I just can't remember all of their names lol
Why thanks
Oh!
My favorite:
Maloche, the Fool
My Changeling Spirits Bard
Tokii I’m making a mage who wants to spread magical ability and education to prosper the realm, and get rich and famous and all powerful, should I have them be an enchantment specialist, a diviner, a summoner?
I need 1 more person for a campaign and few buddies are doing
Diviner
I like Artanza
Oh yeah I have Balgalor Labar as a possible character name
Nice. You are allowed to draw connection to Marika Hawthorne lol
She came from the North in Vaasa and adventured around Damara and other lands around the sea of fallen stars.
Chaotic Neutral and head first into lost ruins to snack artifacts.
She was over Level 10 at some point
Someone give me a random god
Talona
Vhaeraun
Hestia Dionysus
yeah the idea was the type of mage who likes to cheese things and have simple solutions; so they’d either want to use divination the most so they can be 5 steps ahead, or summoning the most so they don’t have to fight their own battles, or enchantment the most so they don’t have to fight at all
Jonah Silverstrand -Halfling Bard
Orziver Kindlethread- gnome wizard
Sir Dathrian Varendis- Human Fighter
Thyrandios the Morningward- Aasimar cleric
Vain - changeling rogue
Finnian “The Swordfish” Pierce - Sea elf Rogue
Throgar Kaldryn -Dwarf Barbarian
Are some of mine
Vhaeraun is my favorite drow diety :>
I wonder if I should take a crack at making a spellcaster again, that isn’t a melee caster
Melee-Caster fun!
Blasty Casty boring!
Unga-Bunga
Melee casters are just melees who like buffs
Commit to the art of actually using your spells to do things
Then you have bladesinger
I love new bladesinger
It nice, but you become a better caster not so much melee
I miss old song of victory a little
I did a fighter dip start to fix that issue
For the con prof and weapon masteries and fighting style of course
There is one thing worse than a melee caster
No
Its a ranged without spells, truly the most boring gaming…
You mean the longbow archer
Yeah, that one time I made the mistake of rolling up a 17 Cleric / 13 Wizard / 10 Pale Master back in 3.5e. I had a whopping 100+ spell slots to micromanage in real time and only 36 hotbar keys for them
I mean ranged builds definitely took a hit in damage with the sharpshooter changes, but I don’t mind it all that much
A rogue with a Shortbow getting vex constantly for sneak attack is still nice
to this day I don't think I've ever made a ranged weapon attack in dnd as a player, it's truly just not something I want from a PC
I have
Do you think the simplest problem solving as a wizard is diviner to know all the answers, summoning to have others solve the problem for you, or enchantment to end fights by not fighting?
Shooting from range is useful when needed
But if you pick it because it the best
All the time it gets boring
Imagine being in a combat and your sharpshooter having archer is nearly 600ft away just plinking things down with a longbow
Archery is a perfectly fine tool I just find standing in the back and rolling dice to be boring, I at least like to move or get stabbed at or drop spell effects
I mean, I had a lich summon and dracolich dragon form transformation, along with armies of undead, soooo....
So a necromancer?
I suppose undead work for free
Exceedingly specialized necromancer / pale master / cleric of Velsharoon, yeah
It cool until you realize you shooting arrows a lot and just that
Like I said, between Wizard and Cleric spellbooks, I had over 100 spell slots to decide on each rest and only 36 hotkeys
I do like necromancers, but unfortunately can’t in this campaign so I’m looking at alternatives
the challenge with this is it's difficult to set up practically
Also true
What are your guys opinions on the blood hunter class
It’s ok
it's fine. not for me. I don't include it in my goal of playing every class in a campaign.
Practicality-wise, just do a ranged weapon with castings like Grease, Hold Monster, or anything else that makes it impossible or difficult to move.
I’ve been playing gishes and full casters, next guys gotta be a martial
You mean using longbow
Probably a monk with how great they are now
no, playing blood hunter
Ah
You don't need to kite or be at range if the enemies can't move or reach you, after all
Speaking from experience beast master ranger + spike growth/entangle
Sharper shooter fighter eldritch knight
I had a pet wolf that tripped the enemy
Prepare to die
this is a better plan, but practically, most combat encounters start with every player within ~15ft of one another, and I don't know about yall but I don't give players a lot of safe places
I had a wolf cloak that gave me a bite attack that caused tripping, leading to more bites that prolonged the tripping, along with sneak attacks thanks to all the tripping
Woot, one shot at the shop was a blast, 3 hours till my online session tonight !
Some DMs really really like their cramped dungeon rooms and building interiors and ambushes and never do an outdoors combat with distance
You're right, I'd much prefer to get ambushed by, say, harpies dropping rocks on me from several hundred feet in the air.
thank for running, was a blast
As a fireball enjoyer I’m perfectly fine with both scenarios but if the dm wants a cramped room encounter I’ll take the aoe present
Yeah, and thus archer builds should always keep a sword on hand
I mean, if you're that into ranged ambushes, I'd say a flying enemy casting WALL OF IRON at max level a few hundred feet over your sleeping camp is fair game.
SPLAT
Tbh when I played a beast master ranger I spent a lot of time in melee because of dungeon rooms, pet flanking, stabbing prone enemies, and also I had like 16 con and hill dwarf
I had a bow but I only used it like 30% of the time
"Roll for Perception.... you all notice nothing particular, right up until you take 1d6 fall damage per 10 feet from the Wall of Iron that's been plummeting toward you for the last 600 feet."
Tho ranger/bard archer seem the most interesting
Maxed out at 20d6 I believe
Valor bard archer is a solid choice for having some off-damage, ranger archer* is effective with low level cc spell combos
Yup
I know fighter archer is a thing it’s just dull
Well, sure, but then there's the overwhelming weight of several tons of iron, too
Painfully
Unless it arcane archer or eldritch knight
Atleast you weave in a spell or two
Actually is battle master Archer doable?
Yes
Arcane archer at least is shaping up to be better than before, hopefully whenever or if ever it gets published within the next year that they didn’t mess it up
I’m still salty about scion rogue.
how were you guys introduced to dnd? did you make your own character (if so, using what?) or did your dm have premade characters?
I was introduced to dnd by virtue of being a nerd.
I did not make my own character, as I started DND as a DM.
same here, i’m just wondering out how to introduce people to dnd cause creating a character takes a while
Walk through making a character with them, probably through dnd beyond
yeah that’s probably the easiest way, but i don’t own the phb on dndbeyond so my players would be limited to one subclass
I was introduced to DND by my Uncle and played with his friends and my cousin
Plenty of premade characters on DDB. Try it out first.
And if you don't have folks to play with, you can get your hands on the D&D Solo Adventurer's Toolbox and D&D The Solo Adventurer's Toolbox Expanded to run a campaign for yourself, whether you've got a single character or a few.
So for the campaign NY friend hosted i decided to play a blood hunter and all my spell saved for the enemy was a 22 my dm cried that day how do a not name that same mistake
I'm also looking for people for a campaign i plan on hosting dm me if you wish to join
Not sure how that would be possible under most circumstances: even assuming a +6 in your stat, that would take you to a 20 DC (8+6+6) at level 20.
I knew D&D was a thing since childhood, as a late teen to mid 20 i said its cringe, then i started because of Stranger Things and now it's my favorite game
I made my character alone first then with DM in west marches discord
How does the new lorwyn book fit into canon?
Watching conan for the first time
This movie is really cool and i should have watched it years ago
It really doesn't
They have a blog post claiming that it ties to FR via Moonshae Isle Fey Crossings, but no such text actually appears in the product.
Hello, friends!
Hope alls well
Time to make 5 morbillion Barbarians? 🧐
I think detective Conan when you say that
Oh, I was thinking the Barbarian 😭
What about a detective barbarian Tokii?
This can only end in tears. Daily reminder how Barbarian killed one of the lying/truth guards to figure out who the liar is.
That be funny and true
Or the barbarian goes and smashes their toe and ask are you in pain?
What made it funnier is that he could've just asked 'is the other guard alive?' instead of killing one first and asking if his buddy is dead.
Or ask really personal questions
“ do you love your mother?”
One of them say no and starts crying
Or check on their faces how they react, you can tell lies, but your face and twitches will give it away
Actually their is one sure fire way to get a straight answer
So..
There's an Investigator class In Pathfinder
They're good at exploiting weak points and they give me INT Barbarian vibes
I never played pathfinder
whats a pathfinder? a dnd addition?
It's a system inspired by older editions of D&D
I wonder if I should give it a shot
There's Pathfinder and Pathfinder 2e (the second of which I like better because first edition was rather edgy and could be distasteful lorewise)
Can I be a golem in pathfinder?
The game has like..
Over 20 classes so uh.. good luck choosing what to play if you have q hard time with the 12 or 13 we got here lol
Automatons exist as a species, so yeah
Tbh Warforged are kinda golems
I probably give it a try physically than on the internet
I enjoy both systems for the opposite reasons
Pathfinder for the complexity and
D&D (in its current rendition) for its simplicity
(most pf2 content is available for free, legally, online. Its mostly modules that are not available for free. But thats #non-dnd-topics )
Do you like dnd?
i’m in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk campaign, with very serious topics like corporate greed, making sacrifices for family, and climbing the way out of poverty, and i’m playing as banjo-kazooie. i love this game
I'm sure most people here like D&D or want to like it 🤔
i want to like dnd when i look at a stat and my brain stops working
Nah we get a fair amount of folks that don't surprisingly
Is there a place to put/find artificer shenanigans?
What kind of shenanigans?
Not infusions literally just basic inventions
For ex: a mini plane
That would still be homebrew unless you’re achieving it via official methods
Alr
I guess the context matters too. Like if you’re regaling a tale using your inventions #tales-from-the-table might fit. But if you’re just sharing ideas then yeah #homebrew is the way to go
Anyone have a good name for a lizard folk werewolf
Anyone have any DnD related Christmas gift ideas? Could range from dice to mini painting materials
Uh..
Worliwarzag
nice I'll use that
Did the people who named that character know they would eventually become a werewolf?
Maybe I'm weird but I don't think a character's name should reflect anything about the character themselves. About their culture and parents, sure
Unless it's a genpuku situation where they choose a new name as an adulthood ritual
I think elves actually do that
Anyone have a good artificer build I’m currently a shadar Kai artilerist
Hey guys, I'm new to DnD and I wanna experience and observe a game, anyone free and willing to take me under the wing? Thanks in advance
Sorry for intruding
I mean, if they said it, it has to be true, right?
Hey party people I had a question how I should go about running a Christmas themed one-shot
I didn’t think that word was not good
present mimic
Instead of going to the North Pole they end up in the 9-hells
sounds cool
I’m just not entirely sure how I would go about implimenting the devils and such
what do you mean?
How exactly does someone end up in the nine hells while trying to reach the pole?
How would the North pole be on an another plane?
It's the north pole of this planet in this plane, is it not?
idk, feels like it could be its own plane also no one said they were starting on the matierl plane
I don't understand. Which north pole would they be trying to reach and why?
You could borrow some concepts from "The Nightmare Before Christmas", which establishes that all the various holiday lands are essentially demiplanes of our own. Maybe the PCs accidentally open a gate to Christmastown, and the devils get in and start messing things up.
I'm not really clear what the nature of the adventure is meant to be, but that's one option that uses concepts players are likely already familiar with
Need opinions of another DM!
The 8th Level spell telepathy, if the character is knocked unconscious, then made to do death saves and succeeded, does that link still exist? I see this " The spell ends if you or the target are no longer on the same plane." and I assume they would leave the current plane if they failed all their death saves
Being knocked unconscious and then reviving wouldn't break the link, so the telepathy should still be in effect.
Also it's up to you as DM if a soul leaves its plane of origin immediately after death.
Being knocked unconscious would not end the spell, dying would.
Even if revivified immediately
thanks both of you!
I agree that being dead-dead would also break the spell, even if subsequently rezzed
I was thinking something similar, although I've ruled that your soul stays in your body for a minute (which is why revivify works)
Kelemvor agrees
Doesn't matter I think. Even if your soul is still there, you are still not the same creature. The "you" the spell referred to in its description doesn't exist, it's dead.
What I kinda had in mind was like they get a letter from Santa, inviting them for a dinner party but whoever wrote it has dyslexia and they end up in the hells cause of an infernal train
In my own settings, I consider the connection between the body and the spirit to exist as long as there is any physical part of the body remaining. The less of the physical that remains, the weaker the connection grows. This is what allows creatures to be resurrected even long after death (via true resurrection etc). The spirit may go on to an afterlife, but the connection is still there, even if only very, very faint. The spirit may not even realize the connection still exists.
Wait so the person has dyslexia, meant Santa and... Therefore the PCs go to hell?
I get that, I would happily play along with those rules if I was a player at least (I mean, they are the rules too after all lmao)
okay i gotta go, but thanks for the thoughts, im clear on what to do
Other way around actually, nobles invited to a grand dinner party in the nine hells while thinking it was from Santa
Ex-adventurers more than nobles
Oh
Is that a good premise for a one-shot?
I'm not really sure how that's Christmas-themed, if it all takes place in Hell, but if your adventurers don't question being invited to dinner by Santa then plausibility isn't really a concern 😄
Well I do have to say that in D&D there is no such person as the misspelled Santa
But I guess it works as a joke session
Welp, I think I’ll just work something else out
Thanks party peeps, yall have a good night : )
Im creating a DnD story for the first time. It involves an Island nation of 10 islands, guarded by legendary Leviathans.
A gate appears at an island where the campaign begins, where if someone carries the souls of at least 4 of them, they will get a wish.
That isn't it though. there are two catches:
-
One of the leviathans do not belong in the pantheon.
-
A great enemy clan is after them as well, wishing for their god to swallow the islands whole and enslave the entire population.
It is a race against these people for the souls. I have an entire google doc im doing that has more details
I based the story and some of its characters off of 2 songs from Motionless in White: "Burned at Both Ends 2" and "Puppets 3, The Grand Finale"
How do I make a thread for looking for dm?
type the commands in any chat channel you can type in (like this one) and the bot will post the template in the correct channel.
so how big are the leviathans?
theyre big, but the party will get some help from stronger npcs to neutralize them. later on theyll be in their own
how big? are they an island of their own?
power word redirect
No
Shame
i wouldnt do anything that crazy
aww
its not like the whole islands are just one big snake
but i will tell you that there is something that maybe bigger than the leviathans. the enemies have to have more leviathan souls than the party
and it can only be summoned if they use the gate to wish for it
Don't do that. The "help from stronger NPCs" thing.
Mishandled, that is a surefire way to kill the fun
UNLESS done correctly. which, in my experience can be very hard to pull off
mb wrong chat
how come if I may ask? I'm a new DM so, I'm trying to learn
steals the spotlight and can result in the npc carrying
is there a way to pull it off or do you usually avoid it?
The pcs are the heroes. If someone else is doing the heroing, it begs the question whose story it is and why the pcs are even there.
Perhaps said npc could be really vulnerable to crowd control so you can't just win an encounter by sitting back and letting the npc hammer away at the enemy
theres a way to pull it off, but i have not found it myself. i typicay try to avoid it
I wouldn't dare to rely on certain npcs in bg3 even though their damage output matches my main DPS person and doesn't care about spell slots and what have you
having npcs bail the party out or be stronger than them only works if your plot doesnt actually depend on them solving the big problem
Because they're vulnerable to disables so overrelying on them meant it would backfire at me or they'd be useless too quickly
I see. I will avoid this then.
for a semi-relevant example, its perfectly fine in konosuba to have allies stronger than the party, because the party solving the issues of the realm isnt actually required by plot
but a lot of adventure paths and game premises do require it, so if you do require it, dont
Konosuba is also a gag isekai that doesn't have much at stake iirc
it does have a good amount of stuff at stake, it just doesnt depend on the party to solve it
so they can do stuff like take vacations if they want
O right I stopped watching it after s1
it also is very much a satire of the genre
it appealed to teen me
Having a stronger npc help the party isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially when earned or signposted. It's when it comes out of the blue or used too much that it becomes a problem
I'm looking at my 2024 dm manual. I'm just realising asmodeus looks like a shadier mr tumnus
It's pretty good. Considered one of the higher damage spells for a second level spell slot, especially if you can catch multiple people in it
Alrighty, thanks!
do elves spend centuries as babies?
No they mature pretty fast. At least in older editions. 5e is pretty sparse on lore about it
Idk if that's cannon but it would explain why there aren't that many of them
Elves physically age at the same rate as humans.
Their cultures though - at least in older lore - suggested they aren't considered mature until after they reach their 100th birthday.
But again, older lore and it was a cultural thing.
Hello guys
The drinking age list in every tavern must be tough to manage with all the difference species ages
but they live like
degrees of magnitude longer, right?
Hi
so where do they stop aging
One noteworthy thing is that, because they don't reach adulthood until an older age
Hru
Decent. Wbu
You sometimes have Elves that are awfully immature when they're in their 40s cuz that's basically the same as them being 14-16
Not bad, working on my own race of elves
40yo edgy teen elf is stuck in my mind now
Interesting interesting
generally like at 20 but then they age at like 5-10% the speed of humans afterwards
They are known as the ulgyr, bog elves
What's bog?
A bog is basically a swamp
It was why I have my Elf character be ~140 years old, lest I want them to be a spoiled brat if I have them at their 20-30s
Ah i see
Imagine a weird combination of wood elves, dark elves and sea elves
Sounds cool
as a note i would keep in mind that elf adventurers are different from the norm inherently, and also that the elven standard of "mature" is different from the human standard
They aren't magically inclined either
That's tough
so you could easily play like a 25 year old elf and get to be normal xD dw about being ancient
The only "sorcerers" they have are called cursers
Interesting
They call down curses from the god that the bog elves worship
Something something cultural differences when it comes to Elven maturity, though what I actually did was to adapt their personalities based on people I know irl
That's a good idea
Also they are monotheistic
What's that?
Monotheistic = believe in only one god
That's surprising, what with the Elven god pantheon having like 20 gods
Yup
Also their god called "boru'yarohgul" is not an elvish god
Am I imagining things or did there used to be a way to output a character sheet to text, like a statblock almost? Or was that some sort of browser extension maybe?
You can export DnDBeyond sheets to PDF but there's never been a "export to text" functionality.
one of the ttrpg streamer group i watch for their setting lower the lifespan of elf to 200 cause they feel that hard for something that lives that 800 plus years to exist without becoming more and alien and detached from the mortal world and want the elfs of the setting they are building togther to feel more connected and attach to the world they live
I am a bit qurious why Eberron: Forge of the Artificer updated 4/7* of the species from the Eberron: Rising from the Last War.
I assume it's because they weren't reprinted in Monsters of the Multiverse
Shifter and changeling were reprinted in that book and they gat updated
¯_(ツ)_/¯
It's not the first time a species has come out in multiple books. Aasimar has come out 4 times now
I guess Changeling and Shifter are pretty core to Eberron as a setting so they wanted to lump them in to the "mini" Eberron book.
I think Wizard of the coast just dousn't like Goblinoids. (Joking)
No
Not OP, definitely not
Functional? Definitely.
But even with ki or focus, monks aren’t OP
Wait but monks don’t get fighting styles
but I get ||flavour||
Fighting styles are mechanical tho
Oh yeah you right
You can just get 1 as a feat (or with a fighter level)
so, as a warlock, my biggest stat is already gonna be CHA, but i plan on taking Pact Of The Blade and Armor Of Shadows to do more melee combat, for which should i prioritize DEX or CON? DEX would give me better AC (Mage Armor is 14 + DEX), but CON is more flat out health. should i prioritize being harder to hit or being able to take more hits?
and especially the more interesting aspect of this puzzle is Concentration, because if i never get hit it never gets challenged, but CON would make me better at succeeding on the save if i do
and the third thing is Pact Of The Chain, where i could make that my third invocation and use Stealth to not get spotted and my Familiar as a meat shield to be a problem for the enemy
You can go 1 lvl fighter to armor prof + masteries + fighting style
Take medium armor and go 14 DEX
I typicly have more dex but it doesn't make that much of a difference
i mean i could but Mage Armor is already a pretty decent stand in for armor at all since it's 14, like Half Plate, but doesn't give Stealth disadvantage
Mage armour is 13+dex
half plate is 15 + 2
and Armor Of Shadows is Mage Armor on no spell slot, and as an A spell i don't actually have any equip time, and with Pact Of The Blade as a Bonus Action summon i can go from being deprived of all weapons and armor to weapon and armor in one turn
oh i thought it was 14, mb
No problem
oh i've miscalculated i thought it was 14
You can go 14 dex with half plate (17 AC) or Breast Plate (16AC) if you dont want stealth disadvantage
and dont invest more in DEX, so you can go CON
what armor rating is Breast Plate? Heavy, right?
Medium
huh, okei
yea i could probably go Breast Plate then, and with a Warforged integrate that into my body so i cannot be deprived of it
would this cost me a level in Fighter, tho?
like i have to take one level in Fighter?
i mean fighter does have some benefits
Or a feat, but the dip in fighter is better
yea i might take my first level in fighter and the rest in Warlock so i can have 10+CON for HP and some weapon masteries + equipment and then multiclass at level 2 into Warlock
Than you can get heavy armor
i mean the level in Fighter would give me heavy armor training anyway
Yes (if you dip into fighter later you don't get heavy armour for some reason)
I've been thinking about something, so Spores Druid's Symbiotic Entity ends when the Druid uses Wild Shape
But it didn't mention anything about Wild Shaping > Symbiotic Entity, should that be allowed
also, all of the 2024 Heavy Armors are Stealth Disadvantage, which is something i wanna avoid
Depends on your dm
wait nope the role 20 site just thinks it's funny to ignore me
yea all of the heavy armors are stealth disadvantage and strength requirement, which i don't wanna do
Wildshape was changed whit the 2024 rules I would count this as bad faith in the rules (it used to end when you lose your temp)
I was thinking of 2014 rules
Cuz it said clearly that Symbiotic Entity ends the moment you cast Wild Shape but not the other way around, but I don't think animals could cast "spells" literally either
"As an action, you can expend a **use of your Wild Shape feature **to awaken those spores,"
You are wild shaping, but awaking the spores instead of transforming into a beast
i mean this is the tech, right? i could do 15 DEX and 14 CHA, i put the Background +2 on CHA and +1 on DEX, so both are 16, which is a +3, and i can run ASIs however i wanna
But you could also awaken spores in theory as a beast too
Both features ends if you use wild shape again
If you use the medium armor you only need 14 dex
So much for a super form on top of a super form for the Druid
Rampaging around as a fungal spreading bear with 200 hp would have been great
You could ask your dm (they can say yes but probably will say no or yes but you get restricted)
Max hp on whildshape is 58 for a spore druid (soo it is not that strong)
rip totem barb + druid combo
totem barb and bear druid is an aweful build, spending the first turn of each combat raging and wildshaping stops them from doing things in like 33% of all combats
There are ways to make it work in the 2014 rules
Is 4xDruid lvl, so 80 max Temp HP, no?
Yo guys! I wanted to ask a question, why do some people prefer 5e over 2024?
And the other way around
That is the 2024 rules
but spores is 2014 only
Spores is 4*druid level
whildshape is a set hp
"and you gain 4 temporary hit points for each level you have in this class"
I think 2024 fixes more problems than it creates. Simplifies some rulings, overall cleaner for new players to jump into
I see, thanks for explaining!
Hello, friends
Hello
yea but 17 AC as 14+3 is pretty good, plus as a Warforged i'd have a +1 to AC, which is 18, and pretty good
Would taking a level in fighter as a sorcerer make sense to get armour+shield+defensive fighting style?
Hello guys Im new to D&D and Daggerheart and I have a question I just watched the 3 episodes of The Mighty Nein and I saw the fjord sword and I wanted to know what is it or how I can put in my game world or how do u even create items like this
is it homebrew or something the game offers
People do it
But, nah, I wouldn't waste the time
Puts your spell progression behind by one
And Sorcerer and Wizards both have plenty of survival tools
Alright, thanks!
Hi guys. Just wondering. If I would create a campaign what are some good tips to being a dm
No tag newdm found.
I just need some tips on being a good DM for my campaign
?dmtips
He was a Half-Orc Warlock. He chose "Hexblade" for his Otherworldly Patron
I'd take a level in Paladin instead to get all that and more
Alright, here: #dnd-discussion message
Soradin is a classical multiclass combo
For Fighter its best if you go Fighter first (Eldritch Knight only) into Wizard instead
Thanks
- Be prepared
- Take notes
- Stay hydrated
- Start small
- Listen to your players
Ok. Thanks. I have been listening to the Tales of the Stinky Dragon podcast so I have an idea but I don’t really want to be DM but none of the people who are gonna join want to be either so I’m just gonna be DM.😂
Does anyone know any public campaigns someone could like join just for the fun of it. I’m really bored now so I would just like to join a campaign
The dmg does not have the tip about staying hydrated but oh boy is it important
Like if they get fire dmg resistance they will get it under inconveniently specific circumstances
If Zeus counts ( probably won’t) then you get only one spell slot for thunder wave per long rest
I know it doesn’t count as a irl god but that’s a good idea
It does count
Oh ok
If you believe in posiden then you can breath an extra minute (or two depends on what you want) under water
Ummmmm let me think. So basically if you don’t believe in any god
Every dawn, roll a d20 (or just some dice for each of the gods). Based on what you roll, for that day you get that gods’ boon
I think a d20 is a bit much?
It just needs to have one result for every god
Yea
However many that is
what happens when i roll a dice
Umm, let's avoid talking about real world religions as that's against server rules?
I'd need to get 13 strength which i don't have sadly
Can you change your stats for only this occasion
Alternatively do Warlock actually
Warlock?
Yes, go Hexblade for medium armor + shield proficiency
You won't get a fighting style but your weapons will now scale based on your charisma
I'm 2024 so no hexblade sadly
2024 is backwards compatible, you can still use Hexblade.
Otherwise ask your DM if you can tweak your stats accordingly to run Paladin still
Pact of the Blade is a level one pick in 24. Get mage armour up, possibly.
Would going 3 levels into warlock be worth it for that?
Ig i could, I'd miss out on other stats though
Wait nvm its 2024, yeah its worth going to level 3
You won't miss too much compared to what you'll gain, focus on str con cha
what about cleric?
I already have dex con cha
I have 8 wisdom so can't multiclass them sadly
I can't answer that without knowing what you're building this character to do.
So I'd have to change up stats, which my dm probably wouldn't mind
We do have #character-discussion for these kinds of conversations or #optimization if you are aiming for the best maths
Right, thanks
ah darn
Arcane Trickster Spell Thief is a weird feature
It's a great feature is what it is.
And it's a mechanic I like to steal to give to NPCs.
So it negates the affect of a spell against you if the caster failed an int save, now they can’t cast and now you can use it for 8 hours
It is, and it weird for how it practically mess with mechanics of a boss
Does anyone know any DnD group that streams their campaigns live? without edits? I want to see how people actually play before I try it myself
Tbh I kinda wanna play arcane trickster now
Look around on Twitch and YouTube, plenty of streams. Try to find one that isn't so...polished.
It's great when you have an NPC that does just to a PC Counterspell.
Is mythal touched a decent feat?
Not sure what that is
It’s one of the new feats in the FR books.
It's like a mini wild magic surge that activates when a spell that requires an attack roll or a save is cast on you
Cleric Trickery Domain is actually pretty cool
I'm playing a wild magic sorcerer halfling with the lucky feat so it could be fitting
Everything trickery is cool imo
Cleric: I cast spirit guardians
Villain: I don’t see anything
Cleric:Look behind you
Villain:looks behind them how did I not notice that
There’s tons abound! You might find some in #dnd-advertisements
that same logic can also apply to echo knight fighters tbh
i ran two campaigns on youtube and posted all the raw footage
thanks!
im eyeballing one already huhu
ooo I'd like to have a look at those
is it the one in ur bio?
that it is
You know what would have been awesome to include in the monster manual? A table for knowledge rolls, a guide for what a player learns depending on the roll.
ah when players take the study action i just ask them what they are trying to decern and set an appropriate DC
Yes, but they should also get something (while less useful) pertinent to the monster if they fail
nah, falure can still be failure
Quick Question: have the winners for the Homebrew Feat Contest on D&DBeyond been announced?
i had someone take the Study action on a Warg, got a nat one and i said "that dog aint right"
IDK, it feels like not learning anything from reading about a creature or trying to study it's habits is a bit of a miss
yeah just like how failing an attack roll is also a miss
When the dm tells me that a 29 does indeed not hit
i feel like it's reasonable not to know everything about a creature if you fight it, as most adventurers have likely never seen what they're fighting before, so rolling a nat 1 on a study action would just be "i've never seen this before and cannot discern anything about its nature or behaviours"
The giga lich cast sheild, what can I tell you?
Context is important in this case, if you're poring through dusty tomes then you're likely to at least glean a little information. A nat one, probably not. But it does stand to reason that you could learn peripheral information about the topic
@versed dove Hey I saw you sent me a friend request. I prefer if you ask me on the server itself so I know why your messaging me :)
i'd probably give someone advantage on a check or just let them bypass the study action if they got the info from a book though rather than studying an enemy mid-combat
Yeah if you have it all in front of you, you may not even need to roll, I was referring more to the study action in combat like having a monster charge you and not knowing what it js
Alternatively a poor roll studying on the library could have got them a book of stories about folklore that is way off and not accurate info to what they are truly searching for
Okay 👍
Also having an appropriate book can give you a plus 5 bonus to a check as per the rules in the 2024 phb about books as adventuring equipment
Yes, but there's not an actual rule of thumb about what sorts of information belong to which DCs
i know that maps give you a +4 to Survival checks for navigation but there is nothing in the description that says it has to be regionally relevant at all
Same. What's on your mind?
page 28 of the DMG, has information for resolving actions and setting a dc and it talks about research tasks as well as on the next page degrees of failure or sucess
Oh, I'm tryna be a friend
most equipment and tools are written in this way, like Alchemist Tools let you make a DC 15 Intelligence check to identify a substance, but doesn't actually specify anything about its range or if you even need physical access to the substance
Yeah, and setting DCs for Passive Knowledge scores would make it nice and easy.
"this map of Waterdeep is surprisingly useful in the nine hells"
you can also make a DC15 Intelligence check to start a fire
RAW equipment is extremely silly, yea
like Smith Tools allow you to manufacture weapons and armor, but don't actually set any sort of material requirement for this action, nor a limit on its usages
Hang out with us, join in the discussions. If this channel isn't your kind of thing check the #channel-guide for more options.
Those are in the downtimes rules in the DMG
you can just spawn swords and Medium armors with smith tools, on top of being able to use the tongs to breach doors
Thank you
You need to have the gold to build the equipment and also the time
oh really? see it doesn't say that with the item like, at all
Yeah the rules for crafting are in a different section of the book, keep reading
if you just have the item text and not the DMG it's really silly
What "study action"?
i genuinely thought they just trusted the DM to say "no" when their players start trying to fabricate weapons from thin air
D&D would likely benefit from the Pathfinder/WoD style of core rulebook for that exact reason
The study action, here https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/dnd/br-2024/rules-glossary#StudyAction
They used to have the whole thing about forging armor and weapons in the phb iirc
The Battlemarked Q&A is about to start!
https://discord.gg/Nx9DrFdPx?event=1441152664942542912
I mean, yes, but also there are rules for crafting so players can engage with then
Interesting that I missed that action
Taking an action to examine something has allways been a thing but the 2024 core rules codify it as a specific named action, just like how utilize is now one too
it's weird that Alchemist supplies don't use the Study action to examine materials, it uses the Utilize action, but also already has Utilize bound to starting fires
That table just indicates which skills apply to the check
But I do think it would be neat to have a table for information about a monster to give you a ballpark for how hard it is to figure out information about a monster
I would guess it would infringe on the Fighter's class ability to do so
One of my favorite things that the revision did yea. Instead of having each separate skill be its own separate action they were grouped together under single actions
Passive Knowledge scores is one way I make the Knowledge Skills important even when the players don't use the Study Action.
There are things that characters just know based on their level of Skill and things like they're Background or backstory.
is this the same as Passive Investigation or is it another thing?
Similar, just for all the Knowledge Skills like History, Arcana, Nature, etc.

But here's the clapper
my dm gave us a science skill cause i wanted to do hydrolysis
i was an artificer at the time i wanted to make bombs
A while ago I asked “how come Vecna’s stat block doesn’t have the powers that his hand an eye give you?” And for a while I was satisfied with the answer I got that was “that’s the point, he doesn’t have his hand and eye”… until last night I woke up as I remembered… he has a second hand and a second eye
Classic artificer
so, can Genie Warlock from inside of its lamp use Voice of Chain Master feature with its familiar?
Oh right #dnd-rules
also why does he have less CR than Asmodeus
bro was the only one that managed to raid Sigil even for a moment
Technically in 5e you never actually encounter a deity
just their avatars
His hand and eye aren't sweet ass magic items until they get lobbed off of him
is your Left Hand as good as your Right Hand?
… I see your point
Same goes for eyes, most people have dominant eye
Genie Warlock can activate Crusher Feat with Eldrich Blast
But like… the same doesn’t apply to players, it’s not like one arm has a higher strength stat than the other
well Vecna happens to not be a player
And it’s not like a spellcaster’s Spellcasting is stored in one hand
isnt it also magic? so all the physical stuff we usually follow not apply
Exactly, he should be so much stronger
He is
So why does he have the disadvantage of spells and power being stored in two limbs
Wait an eye isn’t a limb
Only once per turn but that is neat
how long have you sat on this information
Hey cookie wanna hear a neat combo
Idk it just doesn’t make sense to me
A Tier 3 party could unironically take on him ngl
Exactly, his stat block is a little weak IMO
But yea Dominant Eye is an actual thing, one of your eyes is just worse than the other
Hey everyone
is it Fairy Rune Knight?
I know that, but isn’t the implication of the eye and hand that just having a part of Vecna gives you part of that power?
hunter Ranger with halberd and hoard breaker plus hill giant topple
Even his lackey Acererak is stronger than him, im like bruhh whyyy
Probably, im making most of the stuff im saying right now up
"Truth stood behind me while i handed you something prettier"
Is this neat cookie
is it also a Bugbear character?
Sigh still a badass line
You can if you want, but you can also go hill giant Goliath too
I will live longer, haunted by the implication that the ability to cast spells is stored in individual limbs
It works with any species
And other non-limb body parts
Now add on to it incantations that push or pull with your eldrich blast and guess what, you can shove people around the entire field to your hearts desire
Who knows, perhaps he carved his bones and flesh with runes containing those spells
Dude is not a mortal
Hell on earth if the DM is strict about needing material components
Okay now that’s a metal af thought
Now you push one guy a couple ft away
Then others a little less than the first one
Eldritch blast invocations are fun
Push them into a Cleric's Spirit Guardian or Druid's Conjure Woodland Beings radius
Push them into a fire place then enlarge a rock infront of it
Spike Growth cheese grater
well you say away, but what if you take Crusher Feat and Grasping Invocation and put it all on Vine Whip cantrip?
I love neat combos, but roleplay just as much
Cast enlarge on a ring and give it to someone as a crown.
Then it all become yoink
Ping pong Warlock
Well at that point if you pull someone 20 ft towards you from 10 ft away, do they crush into you, or do they shoot past
Open up the bag of holding
That been enlarged
Wait
Hmm, so if like i said you do have all of those feats and invocations, what is the order of actions
does Crusher feat activate first, than vine whip pull, than grasp?
They happen simultaneously so you decide
oh boy, you can do stuff with that
10 ft towards you, 5ft to the left, another 10 towards you
Thank you!!!
aaaaahhhhhh noted
If the party gets help from an NPC they should probably either be on par or a little bit weaker than the party but still have the ability to assist
A level 2 party I'm in had a miniature militia (about 5)
4 Orc Knights and an Orcish Cleric helping them
It never felt like the odds were heavily skewed in our favor, but they definitely helped quite a bit while not taking away any spotlight from the party
Getting help from numbers is one thing
But if you establish that there are higher level powerful NPCs who share the PCs' goals, that raises the question of why they aren't doing the thing since everything the PCs do, they can do better
"Help! Somebody save me!"
"Have no fear, brave adventurer! NPC Hero is here to save the day!"
Please someone show me the fun in that
We had a friendly sparring match with them because they wanted to test their mettle before challenging a troll, we beat them and then
We decided to help them fight the troll in exchange for them helping us with a Bandit camp afterwards
The Cleric was sadly the only survivor of their group, but they worshipped a War God, so dying in battle wasn't horrible for them
As a matter of fact, they seemed thrilled about it .v.
tangential question but were those helper npcs part of the initiative order?
Yes, the dm did, but their turns were pretty close together because I think they were mostly ran as a group, which, is reasonable lol
We didn't win the Bandit camp fight, it was a bit overwhelming, but, I was able to convince the Bandit leader to spare my party in exchange for one of my magic items
It's implied that we're gonna return and kick their asses later so, I'm not that upset
One idea I saw is simply have the combat objective be different, it doesn't have to involve killing everyone if powerful npcs are involved
Sometimes you gotta take an L early In your career as a hero
"You're escaping from some dangerous place, there's this beefy enemy but powerful npc is holding him off at a standstill, you have 10 turns to get outta this place or else everyone dies"
Another fun idea is not all combats need to end in death
As some enemies are able to be reasoned with
Bandits, for the most part, are just people trying to get by the only way they know how
Or perhaps if they beat you, they just rob you and leave you for dead instead of finishing the job
i think im a little bit dissapointed that we did not get new book announcemnets from WOTC at PAX
They'll leave loose ends?
Its up to the DM but yea they could
The quest is over…
I’m apart of a new campaign and idk if i wanna make a new character or choose from my like six different characters
Most DMs would prefer a new character made for the campaign
Or at least I know that’s how I and a lot of other dungeon masters feel
Yeah but the six characters that i made haven’t been in a campaign yet. I’m the type of dnd nerd that likes making dnd characters for fun🫠
Well, you could try using them, but ask your DM first if they’d be okay with a pre-made character
My dm’s okay with it!! i was just contemplating about making a new character because i have a dragonborn fighter in mind but i also wanna use my other characters because there just lying in my dnd beyond
heyo!
Yayy. Have fun
Amity!
Hi Shy
Hey peeps I just wanted to ask is Vampire a language or not in DND? I'm making a Dhampir and I put Vampire as a language in my sheet and the DM shut it down saying it's not a real language / doesn't exist
I rember seeing it online
Hi,
With the new Paladin subclass I have an idea but.. is there a way to get Dex based unarmed attacks as Paladin without multiclassing into monk?
The Genie Paladin makes me want to play a punching guy but with his unarmored defense being Dex + Cha and Unarmed Fighting being Str based I would have to split into 4 ways.
Can you think of any other option for this to work?
its not a real language
to be honest it doesn't make much sense for it to be a language either
You mean.. French? (sorry, I had to)
Lol
I wonder what can be the strangest party ever in dnd
Abyssal is generally considered an Undead/Demon language
(Even residents of the Shadowfell speak it) you could use that
its just 4 wizards
Do the wizard have jawbreakers
Yeah vampirism is just whatever language you had originally there doesn’t make sense for it to be its own language
I put Abyssal and Elvish since lorewise my character's parents were a Vampire and a High Elf
Vampires generally speak amy language they did in life
4 warlocks each with different patron that have asthma so they need short rest after each fight..
Unfortunately, from what I know, monk is the only way to make unarmed strikes use dex
Apparently there's vampiric but idk how trustworthy the random Google thing I found is
Fun Fact!
Drow also speak abyssal for whatever the hell reasons!
(Probably because Lolth is a Current (?) Former (?) Demon Lord)
to be honest your party wizard also speaks abyssal and nobody gives him any grief over it
sad noise I thought so. Seems like my concept character will get shelved 😄
In my party we have 2 warlocks with different patrons plus a paladin, bard, and artificer
One of our members is a goblin lol
I like to give my characters Languages that generally make sense for them tbh
My Earth Genasi Genies Paladin knew Common (Duh) and Primordial! (As it's the elemental language)
I just gave mine the languages of her parents
I'm the one who made Primordial relevant in that situation
We would've had to fight a few water elementals if my genies Paladin wasn't so keen on protecting elementals lol
I love picking a language I never expect to use and then suddenly I find a reason to use it
It's only happened twice!
But it was fun
(Once with Primordial and once with Abyssal)
If my Druid didn't know abyssal in a campaign, it would've taken months for a Wizard Npc To decipher a book for us
4 Monks
Because demon worship, including Lolth-worship, is an integral part of drow culture
Vampires do not have a language of their own, nor do Undead in general. Vampires usually just speak whatever mundane language they knew in life.
How would a vampire even learn it? They're still the same person they were in life
Why am I hearing breakdown breakdown right now
What would be good with a party comp between a Rogue/Barb, a Fighter, and a Wild Magic Sorc?
We’re lvl 5
I’m having trouble deciding ._.
I just don’t know if I’ll like them. Moon Druid has my eye but idk
This could use a cleric, paladin, druid or ranger.
So don’t over think it, and maybe talk to your group for suggestions
Depending on the fighter, I'm sensing a lack of dexterity, ranged attacks and wisdom.
Oh nice a Barb, go peace cleric
And when it comes to spellcasting, the sorcerer is doing a lot of work.
So cleric or druid might be the priority I think
It seems the vampire language I saw online comes from the plane shift books which are MTG crossovers
You have a really good offense but very little support, so optimally you would do something that can do things the rest of the party can’t, like Druid, bard, or cleric
The general rule for party comps I follow is two spellcasters and two martials, tho it doesn’t really matter
For I be honest just pick what you want to play
You can focus on comp all you want but if you don’t like your class choice then it not gonna be a great time
I try have the classic damage dealer, tank, and support trio. And I know people say it doesn’t work in dnd but it works out pretty well for my campaigns
And fortunately classes are very versatile in the role they can play so characters can fill multiple of those roles
it doesn't matter much when classes can double up
Warlocks and Wizards being your frontlines protecting squishy bow fighter and Sun Monk
Like paladin can fill all three, and others can fill them too
The classical comp is Fighter Rogue Wizard Cleric
The tank casters are here
I think ppl should just pick whatever classes they enjoy and wanna use
Fighting Man, Thief, Magic User, Priest lets go
Tank casters are very efficient in my games so I second that
Man they gotta name fighters that again
I go with a simpler one: Ideally, between the whole party, you want all six attributes at 15 or above at first level.
That's the golden one
That also good
My thoughts on a semi old convo on language if you scroll above a bit. Personally, I would just confer with your DM with what languages your character would know. Allows your DM know you actually care about that and to prep around what languages the players have.
How common are dhampirs and do DMs usually accept them
You still here
If you’re not a predatory edgelord they’ll probably accept it
I already had the talk with my DM tbf I just had the question afterwards that I wanted to ask
Edgelords are boring
Unless done right
No I just like vampire archetypes lol
are comedic edgelords fun
Replace fighter with a monk. The rogue with a bard. The wizard with a warlock. The cleric with a druid. Add a paladin for good measure and you have probably my favourite party
My dhampir literally has a pet floppa
Because we're a bit of a silly squad
And I love floppas
I think so, I like when they’re in the party or encountered as NPCs
Rogue, Bard, Barbarian, Ranger
What do you all think of blood hunter?
I have no opinion on it
Is it kind of similar to a ranger?
I don't like it
No it’s similar to blood hunter
Seem pretty bloody
Why?
I've seen it in action a bunch and it's too finnicky
It’s meh
Finnicky in what way?
You actively damage yourself to use your main class feature for one lol
Ah i see
It's crap
Poorly balanced, poorly made. The entire concept of the class should just have been a ranger subclass
To be fair, at the time it would have been for 2014 Ranger (before Tasha’s)
So I can see why they wouldn’t want that.
bad homebrew
Name goofy
What are the balance issues of it though? I hear a lot of people say it's bad but I don't get why
Hi
What kind of person would you imagine, only knowing they uppercut a goblins head off, and critically stomp a kobold to death?
Hello
I still believe Ranger should have been rebalanced as a pet class
A civilized man defending himself
No, I fully disagree
It would kind of limit it in terms of different gameplay types
I like rangers they cool
uhhhhh a level 1 wizard
Nope
not really
Close
A pet would have to be a big part of your build
If i cast faerie fire to be able to see a creature assuming i was previously unable to see them, and then cast banishment. Would i be able to use the banishment or would the faerie fire automatically stop due to the concentration spell rules
You'd likely have to focus wisdom too and melee builds would suffer i think
We should have a class that is just a pet
And isn’t ranger
Also that
I like ranger as is, doesn’t need to be the pet class
Would the concentration spell override the previous concentration spell before or after said concentration spell is actually casted
Tamer class
Concentration rules are always in effect
So I'm assuming the moment i try to cast banishment I'd be blinded again due to losing faerie fire and hence not be able to cast it
How do you even counter blindness smh
I mean, current ranger is kind of just a fighter
other classes also have subclasses and stuff that makes ranger kinda like the middle child of the classes
like arcane archer for fighter
In 2014 rules that's entirely ok, concentration doesn't end until the spell is actually cast. 2024 is a little less clear on this interaction.
They're a fighter with more traveling stuff and spell casting so not really a fighter at all
Phew, I'm playing in 2014
Except they have expertise, cast spells, and more
Nice comparison sir
Tbh I want another int caster beside artificer
In fact paladins are more similar to a fighter with a more melee build and with heavy armour
Fighter + Something Else = New Class
All classes are unique, stop comparing them
wait rangers got expertise?
Yup
Yes
Like 3 in total
They're spell casters, fighters and skill monkeys
Its from Matt Mercer's thing right?
MB, my phone died. It's a high risk high reward style class that relies on balancing a number of small bonuses to make up for the self injuries you take to activate many of your abilities. This often leads to decision paralysis at the table, and promotes a high level of system mastery to avoid constantly having to beg the cleric or other healer to bail you out.
tbh i've never once seen a ranger
Actively damage yourself to use your abilities.
Abilities that are often lackluster
Who'd win 100 orks or a troll
It's all style and no substance
I see. So it's a very difficult class?
very
In D&D, unless the balance of power is much greater than this, the hundreds always beat the one
How much damage do you take anyway?
i mean you could work something out with shillelagh
That doesn't sound that bad. I thought it was either like straight up can't do anything in any way or way too strong
A hundred halfling peasants vs a flying dragon
Orcs. 100 attack rolls per round vs. 2-3 isn't going to end well for the troll
Yo guys.
I don’t know if this is a good idea I just made it randomly for no reason I was bored.
The reaper shards and souls stones
Reaper shards are a little unending hard to defeat samurai spirits
They call upon the dead and the dammed. Summoning demons and skeletons.
They use shadow ice. (Like it’s genuinely shadows of people)
When you defeat them in a duel you get a soul stone. And you can reanimate them.
They’re soliders from the spirit of death.
They’re actually conscious though. And have different personalities.
I need constructive criticism
Now there the balance of power is great enough that the peasants are all dead before inflicting more than... ten HP loss at ths dragon
Make their ennemies undead mongols or sumn
100 polar bears vs one adult red dragon
A hundred halflings with pitchforks
Even more in the dragon's favour than the peasants.
The dragon just stays in the air and firebreathes the bears
Good idea!
The red dragon can just fly 30 feet up
darn i forgor
Polar bears have no ranged attacks. The dragon kills them all without losing a single HP
Tbh what other martial classes can wotc could possibly make?
Can’t it just stomp them and fly away and stomp and fly?
Or just fire
Big stick class
100 Quetzalcoatlus vs adult red dragon sounds promising tho
Doesn't change anything. Their only shot at damaging the dragon is by throwing rocks. Or if they have bows
Monk
The quetzalcoatli win this one easily
They have enough HP to tank the breath and the dragon wont be able to use it again anyway cuz of the annoying recharge
Throwable pitchforks with 1d4 piercing
So was the Paladine and Barbarian
Would it change if i made it an ancient red dragon instead
warlord from 4e
No. Maybe if it was a spellcaster dragon.
100 ranger sized blood hunters or 1 blood hunter sized ranger?
Who's smarter a dumb barbarian or a smart ork (not an orc an ork)
Its a tie, both die from using their class features
Good to know, the point being?
The ranger he cooler
Rangers?
Im confused
Which dumb barbarian and which ork? Which measure of intelligence are we using?
I didn't know rangers had features that damage them
I did not though?
Wether they can count to 100 before going off and breaking something
No no I thought they were both blood hunters
Whether they can count above their number of fingers (toe fingers not included)
Ah, no it's 100 ranger sized blood hunters vs 1 blood hunter sized ranger
Everyone can do that. Even parrots
That's quite the bold statement
Parrots can do alot of stuff even math
It's also quite the true statement
It's d4 damage (it goes up as you level) everytime you wanna activate an ability. It adds up fast.
Is blood hunter kind of the edgy cousin of ranger?
Basically
MB disregard
Prob
I see. That doesn't sound that bad then
I thougth they were like some kind of blooodborn character
Essentially the origin story is that it was an attempt at recruiting Vin Diesel by letting him play his ridiculous Original Character do not steal. Which he also played in the Last Witch Hunter movie
Sounds pretty cool
I find it rather pathetic I must admit.
To eich their own ig
On everyone involved.
I might try it tbh as i want to play a ranger but don't really want to play the ranger
Why not?
I remember I had always thought about playing a Ranger, but back in those days Rangers didn't get their first level spells until 8th level.
3.5?
They don't seem that exciting in terms of abilities and i heard their damage scales pretty badly, especially melee ranger which is what i want to play
That's crazy ngl
Their abilities aren't bad, they're cool but they don't seem to get anything for damage after level 5 or so
I'll promptly remove this memory out of my head
Though i am new to the game and am probably wrong so please do tell me if i am
I think I realize something, I think I prefer using grid maps for combat, than talespire or any 3d vtt
Minus the recruitment part, that's pretty much what I've heard
Mostly because it seem more taking to do turns because of using all the set up of aoes and more
Ectra
I still can't get D&D's VTT to work. One day I'll spend more time on doing so
virtual table top
Ahhhhhhhh
I wonder if there are creatures that can inflict the Stunned condition with no saves
not really, they all require the DM to jump through some hoops before afflicting the stunned condition
Beholders, Ropers, and Intellect Devourers are the closest I can find
DM’ing
Dming
Beautiful
Playing
Is Wizard your favorite class?
thats why i use owlbear rodio instead, its so much easier to use
Yes
Even tho im not quite good with it yet
DMing usually but I like being a player depending on the dm and group
That's the beauty of it :) So much to learn! Keeps it interesting
I totally get that, sometimes its hard to find a good DM
I actually got to play every class which is neat
That's awesome! I want to someday
There's lots of possibilities on what a Wizard could do, which what drew me to the class
Especially in Tier 4 where i had the most fun
Definitely! Largest spell list goes crazy haha
Funnily enough tier 4 Wizard was the one I haven’t had that much fun with.
Might try other subclasses for it see if they might change things
Do martials/halfcasters keep up with casters in terms of damage?
What do you mean by tier 4? Level 4?
The game has 4 tiers of play
Lvl 17-20
Ohh gotcha gotcha
Where I get lots of freedom
Tier 1 is levels 1-4
Tier 2 is 5-10
Tier 3 is 11-16
Tier 4 is for levels 17 to 20
I long to play a campaign that hits level 20
Depends on builds and enemies you face
I see
Like AOEs are stupid high in damage but require you to have a lot of enemies hit and fail against it
I think their goal is to try to make it somewhat balanced, but like @umbral girder said, depends on the gear or magic itmes, the enemies, things like that
Also spellcasters are more likely to face resistances and immunities more often than others too
Same here but I only get them from Adventurers League
I see
plus enemies with insane CON or WIS saves
I’m gonna have a ninth campaign reach level 20 in a few months
or higher (albeit 20 is the hard limit, you can still progress)
Thanks for explaining!@spring barn @umbral girder
