People are just too used to 3-round-burst being the norm, but that's just "convergent evolution" on guns.

There was an old Italian rifle thing with a 4-round burst, and the Vector is not the only gun with a 2-round burst (the AN-94 also has a weird 2-round burst that recoils as it it was a single shot)

(But the mechanisms are different, the AN-94 has basically two bolt carrier systems nested within each other, while the Vector just fires VERY FAST by default, and its bolt is sent downwards instead of backwards with every shot, so in a 2-round-burst there's not enough time or shots to feel too much recoil)

the Vector theoretically has an advantage in that .45 is usually inherently subsonic, so it's amazing for suppressed use, but SMGs overall aren't being used that often.

Like, the Vector's recoil system is described by people who handled one IRL as "basically a laser beam", 'cause it doesn't feel like it has "recoil" more than it "presses against your shoulder more or less constantly".

....But that doesn't mean much if there's not a lot of big contracts for SMGs in the first place.

That's not a new concept; it's actually the reason why the P90 exists in the first place; Belgium wanted that, coupled with the ability to use ammo that would defeat modern body armor, so they developed the 5.7x28mm cartridge and the P90 PDW and coincidently NATO wanted to run trials for something like that a few years later.

That's the same trials where the MP7 was entered, and none of them "won" per se. And funny enough, instead of rear-eschelon troops, the P90 ended up being used more often in offensive use by special forces, police, etc etc, where they want to penetrate body armor, but don't need or don't want a lot of range.

Worth mentioning that the MCX is uhn about a decade newer than the Vector, and its made with a different philosophy in mind.

the Vector was intended to be a compact SMG with very little recoil and compatibility with Glock mags.

The MCX/MPX intended to be a pistol-caliber carbine/SMG that could fill the role of the MP5 but with familiar AR-15 ergonomics and wide attachment compatibility. And also very reconfigurable, since it's a modular system.

I'll confess I don't know much about the MP7, but I'd guess that it ends up in a more complicated situation than the P90.

Like, the real scenario that led to the "Armor piercing PDW" trials never became a real thing ("Russians paratrooping into NATO cities where there's only rear-eschelon troops to deffend"), so they weren't procured for that.

And between the two, the P90 had the better cartridge when it came to "damage to target" (slightly bigger bullet, slightly more energy) and, crucially, it was a simple gun with a very compact package, easy to train people on, very good ergonomics, fully ambidextrous, etc etc etc.

....Meanwhile the MP7 is like.... a Gucci Uzi/MAC-10 with better ergonomics and armor piercing ammo?

And the P90 also has a pretty good handgun to go with it.

I got no idea what it changes to be honest, I'm on my first playthrough so I just decided to wait before going to SIRCAA and explore the other areas as I didn't even know you could visit them (rostok, burnt forest, duga (only the most southern part. if you try to go to the northern part you will be shot by snipers), Malachite, chemical plant. Aaaa got it. There is not that many CGI cutscenes in the original trilogy, don’t let it discourage you though. If the core game works fine, just continue playing while you find a solution. Also are you on a console or PC? If PC you might have some missing codec for video player or something, I had this exact issue happening with original game in late 2000s when I was playing it:)

How are they supposed to secure this place when the soldiers can’t even properly carry out the tasks given by a colonel? During its construction, you’re talking about an area with almost undefined boundaries, where it’s not even clear what exactly needs to be defended.

You’re in a radiation filled zone, surrounded by countless mutants and on top of that there are stalkers who are curious about what’s going on there. And those stalkers are far more knowledgeable and experienced than the soldiers guarding the area. They also have better equipment and guns and RPGs for choppers!

You simply can’t protect that many construction workers while building something over such a massive area. In fact, protecting people is easier than protecting the zone you’re building from mutants.

One night, ten bloodsuckers will show up thinking, “hey guys, let’s sleep here tonight,” or you’ll attract the attention of a giant. Dozens of regular mutants will wander in, drawn by encounters along the way and by the smell of humans, and they’ll start exploring the area.

And of course, there are also bandits who cause trouble for no real reason at all. ANNDD Monolith!!!! Exoskeleton army and bunch of RPGs!
