Hey guys, I've played the first STALKER game about an year ago and wanted now to continue to the 2nd game (Clear Sky). Is it recommended to play the original version or the enhanced edition? I see some mixed reviews regarding the enhanced edition so I'm not really sure if I should go for it or just enjoy the original one

Also, is there something I can watch to refresh my memory on the most important story pieces from the 1st game?

SRP is kinda recommended. Not needed, but it does fix some of the most critical stuff it has. I've played the game about 2 times vanilla and didn't get anything significant / nothing that couldn't be avoided, and SRP also brings some changes that aren't exactly "vanilla friendly" (few changes to the healing system, addition of an ammo type and a few more I don't recall)

tbh, I don't think you are missing much is you play it with SRP, so, if you really dispise bugs in your game, I guess you can use it yeah

be aware, some problems are just inherent to CS, bug-fixes patches or not

Ok so, I was at the Garbage after doing some initial stuff and carrying on the main quest line. The area is swarming with Bandit faction which are yellow dots on the map. Whenever I try to go to another area they try and steal from me. Am I meant to like, bring the STALKER faction into this new area and slowly conquer it and progress?

If you join the Loners faction, you can do that, yes. Their final goal is to conquer the Depot, but if you leave the Depot at any time, Bandits will start respawning and slowly taking it away.

Alternatively, you can just ignore this and kill the bandits to not get robbed or even become friendly with them, even join their faction

What you do next depends on you, although if you want to join bandits, I'll recommend googling it, because there is a known softlock if you join too early

If I was to dissect what each game after SoC lacks in comparison to the 2007 OG – I think I'd never enjoy anything in this franchise properly, so how about we grow up for a change.

I'm sorry to burst your bubble of illusions, maybe because of good memories, moments you had playing this game, but S2 is a lore disaster, that can't even be taken seriously as part of the series.
The monstrous amount of stupid retcons S2 has (along with whole chaotic and meaningless new geography) simply destroys the lore. And even more with new ATB almanac stuff, by the way.
And when the lore of the trilogy is ruined in a game that claims to be a direct sequel, it's exactly a disaster. Not a good stalker game definitely.
Not to mention A-Life two point zero, 64km2 world and other things they removed from their steam page and such and don't even mention anymore. That's secondary. Ruined lore is enough

My guy, I'm aware of the S2 lore situation, don't you worry. There is a definitive reason why this Discord server has 2 entirely separate lore discussion channels for the trilogy & HoC, so there's no problem to play along with it & treat the universes separately – especially given the fact that recent official communication has been calling the upcoming CoH expansion "a new chapter within a new large story" & S2 as a project the "new trilogy". For me that settles it, the ATB promos trouble aside.

About stuff removed from the Steam page: first of all, quickly on the map size – it is 64km2. There's a difference between the factual size of the map & the size of a playable area within the map, which is currently something around 20-25km2 and is due to be significantly expanded with DLCs. Hope that's clear.

On the A-Life description – yes, it was replaced on their Steam store page with something more digestible for the wider audience, who kept asking the streamers "what even is A-Life?" for about a month post-release, lol. However, the initial description i.e. one of the only 4 pieces (I should rather say "sentences") of marketing A-Life 2.0 has ever gotten in 6 years of the game's development has stayed intact since November 13th (a week prior to the release & its removal from Steam page) on the STALKER official webpage in the F.A.Q. section called "Clarifications" & goes as follows:

"A-Life 2.0 is a simulation system for life in the Zone. Factions and mutants are fighting for living space, migrating, capturing new places, or retreating to safer areas. A-Life is what makes Zone truly alive and unpredictable."

Since patch 1.7 & PS5 release, the A-Life 2.0 system is fully in the game in accordance to the aforementioned description. Everything that description says the A-Life now does in the game – and it's been confirmed by several community testers that have been working in co-op with GSC on trying out the patches before they get fixed & go live. Case closed.

Most easily observed through the quest to help Freedom capture merc base at the factory which gives whopping 5000 relation value. Instantly makes Freedomers friends even if you were enemies before.

But doesnt go over 1000.

2. use your bolts a lot to see if there are anomalies close
3. when trying to shoot smth at long distance, first find cover, and then crouch + ADS while not moving (and change to single fire rate instead of auto if the weapon allows it), gives much more accuracy. If you move you lose a lot of accuracy

I saw some people complaining about the fact it doesn't work anymore, the comments were relatively fresh (2023/2025)

I checked those comments and I can guarantee they are idiots

Some were trying to add it on top of other mods (why), some where using it on top of ogsr (why)

At most, you'll need ZRP as one comment said, but the mod doesnt mention that you need ZRP (although the pictures the mod has are with ZRP, so maybe you do need it and the author didnt mention it.....)

Makes sense actually. Not too many unique that lay out in the open like that. So I would guess they did it like that so NPCs would randomly crawl/glitch into Streloks hideout to pick it up.

You can do some missions for duty without mods

Huh, well, if you worked for duty to attack the freedom base that endeares you a lot to Duty, have you shot up duty a lot before hand to make them hate you? Are you wearing a freedom uniform?

No, i have duty uniform

And duty are neutral to me but they shoot me if i enter theyre base

You haven’t progressed enough in main storyline

You will get a lot more quests but later

Uniform has no impact on faction relationship

Basically you need to go to the X-16, do the main mission there, return to the bar, talk to barkeep and he’ll mention that the duty leader needs you for a task

And then you’ll be able to go into their base :P

Cause for example in another save where i joined Freedom there the game calls me Freedom as faction and It lets me play lots of mission for them

Joining freedom is pretty much a bug that allows you to access cut content

And it opens no new quests, all of them are available to you as a loner

There are but none of them would work with your existing save files

Being able to join a faction is pretty much cut content, but you could activate that dialogue through a bug by doing events in a very specific unorthodox order

cannot capture it that well, but does CS has a weird light render issue? i was testing with dlss and the lighting gets weird which doesn't happen with FSR/without it, but it looks super sharp

I assume you are talking about EE? Very likely, there are dozens of bugs related to those rereleases that we keep finding almost weekly

yeah, honestly i wanted to play it just for the achievements, but if it becomes to much i'll just go back to the og and use the reclamation project to replay it.

edit: ok...seems that the game just doesn't like to be played on 1080p, tried it on the 1440p and the weird rendering seems to be gone?...will keep testing to see if it comes back

In call of prypiat there are some ways to get Better armor without advancing main story? For example now i have Freedom armor

You can do side quests and grind artifacts and buy better gear from the Nimble trader

The higher end CS armor can carry you to the end of the game, or until you get a SEVA

SEVA sucks in CS though, no? If I remember, you don’t get a lot of artefact slots and it has bad durability

It's literally one of two suits with 5 artifact slots

When upgraded for anomalous protection it's second to none. When upgraded for combat it makes for a very good all round suit
