I had one of those P-GM's fail on me, very real problem
Nearly lost a 3080, but the OCP kept tripping until it wouldn't turn on at all so I consider myself lucky
I had a second one which is permanently packed away now, will never be used
Dead one was swapped for an RM850x
the order of events: exceed usage, PSU trips; reset, turn on, psu reaches a normal usage level, blows up.
Yes
basically the PSU had a one time safety.
Nah, the safety feature is obviously to pop
nice, i just had one arrive yesterday
My monitors randomly disconnect whilst my PC is running without my touching anything, has been happening ever since I got my PC but I just ignored it, does it mean I have a faulty GPU or can this be fixed?
Just make sure the cable isn't dodgy and try different ports
If you already have it, mp33, if not sn750 se for 50$ for the 500gb is nice
I have the mp 33 rn
But I’m wondering if it’s worth it to get wd black bc it’s 100$ rn for 1 tb
Then keep it
Ok
Would it be worth it to upgrade?
K
I have two monitors it happens to them at the same time, Ive switched cables and ports nothing works
Try DDU, there's a Guide in #graphics-cards pind
Have done it multiple times
Is it a faulty GPU?
Are you running an oc?
Wasn't when it first started happening, then oc, then reset again, nothing ever changed
It's been happening ever since I built it
Hmm might be unlucky with gpu, have you tried DDU ing then installing an older driver?
Yes have reverted to old drivers and have updated to latest ones
I've googled everything I could
Just try clear cmos for the hell of it
Just remove it and put it back in?
So, my friend is building a pc for a deaf friend, he's going to run a fundraiser for it
The budget isn't set yet, but most likely it'll be under 700
What gpu would you guys reccomend? I was thinking 980/tior msrp 3050
I'll have to ask my friend
Pato already made a build minus gpu, 10400 build for 450
If near MC 5700g is always an option the ln wait for dgpu prices decent
So it leaves room for a decent gpu
Yea
Would a 980 ti work you think?
I was thinking high 16 series, 980 ti, 1070 or 3050 at msrp
Yeah if you can get one for decent price
High 16 series will be difficult to find for 250 or under
Maybe a 1660
The budget isn't set it stone yet, I think I'm going to try to run a fundraiser at my school
Yeah that'll be neat
And he's going to start a gofundme i believe
I'm pitching in any and all mining profits I make until he builds
Nice
Hp have a 1650 build for like 550 iirc then 50$ for 16gb ram
I forgot about that, you got a link?
1660 super is like 70$ more, would personally consider that before going 5600g upgrade
https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/ConfigureView?langId=-1&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&catEntryId=3074457345619965322&urlLangId=&quantity=1&jumpid=ma_hp-gaming_product-tile_desktops_12_3v2z3av-1_hp-pavilion-gaming-d
We'll take a look, thank you
Pricing things out it looks like that 10400 build you made +280 for a gpu would be about the same price, so well have to see if we can find a 980 ti/3050 for around 280 if he wants to go custom
I've reset my bios internally before, is that enough? Just don't want to go thro all the bios settings again such a pain
You can save your bios settings to a profile before you clear cmos that way you just hit 1 button
Oh so it doesn't reset that? I thought it would erase profiles too
Alright thanks
Np
Whatever device you are plugging into the monitor is currently set at a resolution that is higher than the monitor supports
Is there a way I can fix it
Boys I’m finally back
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BF2XsL Just completed my list. Rip me apart.
Guys is this a good build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/7qF7Y9
Unless you do a ton of CPU workloads, you won't need a 12600k
Just go 12400(f) and b660 and spend the savings on a better gpu
Plus ssd kinda overpriced
A mp33 will be great and a good price
suggestions for that better gpu? 6600 is only 50 more than the cheapest 3050 i can find in stock and is on par with 3060
But you are probably right about the cpu
Is my buld good
Do you live near a microcenter or best buy?
I'd change psu
It's a budget build so that price or below
You need a gpu
Im in indianapolis. 1 1/2 from 2 in ohio and 3 from chicago but im willing to drive
For PSU go bitfenix formula 650
Have it already 1070ti
So for GPU, honestly 3060ti/6600xt and above would be good
I'm assuming you're playing on 1080p?
Is that safe and good or will it blow up
Safer than the one on your list
It's a top A tier
Doesn't get much better
Ok
Im hoping for 1440. Mainly valorant competitively but I play war thunder and CoD more leisurely and im fine without super high fps in those
Yeah for 1440p you'd be looking more at 3070/6700xt and up
What's the highest fps a 1070ti can run
6600 does 200+ w graphics cranked on valorant but that is AAA i guess
Thousands
Depends on resolution, settings, and game tjo
For more specific
Overwatch
Im only with the 6600 because at 450, you are doubling that to get a 3060ti. I actually was gunning for a 3060 ti because it seemed perfect for me but I decided Id never find one at a decent price
And highest resolution it can go
So 4k?
In theory it could do 4k I guess if you like a slideshow
Lol
The best it can be
Go watch some benchmarks on it if you wanna see game to game
While being good
4k slideshow, 8k for a if you can find a 5hz monitor
True
but back to my point. 3060 ti's for 900 and a 6600 in stock for 450. Cheapest 3060 i can find is a zotac one for 600
and I wont be doing ray tracing so that doesnt really matter
@desert gulch
Yeah
I mean 6600xt will put you around 550 ish on a good day
And 3060ti you can find online sometimes for like 750
so gpu is the only thing to change?
and I dont think im gonna pay for a 750 3060 ti
Best buy is a good option aswell
Camp out there overnight on a designated night, and you'll get a 30 series for msrp
and How do I find a designated night?
They announce when it's coming up
where lmao and how am I not 1 of 400 people
Is vengeance pro rgb ram good and is 16gb enough
its alright, itd be better to go for crucial ballistix or some gskill tridents, and 16gb is enough. 2x8gb sticks for dual channel
I need affordable white ram and preferably rgb recommendations?
Ok
they should be cheaper than corsair ram or around the same price point
3060 ti fine for 1440p
Ballistix more expensive
Gskill has no all white
what sticks are you looking at and what country are you in?
specifically what sticks because theres different speeds and cas latency
depends on what cpu/mobo you have or are going to pair it with
I5 12400f and h670 plus
If they wanna be playing stuff like cod on maxed settings, it's worth stepping up
I5 12400f and h670 plus
3200mhz should be fine
12th gen can only do 3200
Is that good
3200 ddr4
That's just the most it can do on locked chipsets
It'll run 4000+ easy if you let it not be on a locked chipset
all z690 are unlocked though right??
those are good, sadly the ones on newegg are sold out though
or am i just mentally challenged'
Not even h610?
for memory oc
@autumn wolf when should they be in stock
who cares about mem oc with a single channel? lol
Are they on sale
Lol true
single chanel... you gotta be down terribly
I feel like h610 would be locked
theyre on sale, $56 or so. but not sure when theyll be in stock or if theyll be at that price still if they do restock
Since h670 isn't for mem oc
down tremendously
down horrendously
facts
https://www.costco.com/lg-ultragear-32"-class-qhd-gaming-monitor.product.100793191.html I found this monitor when I was looking at a 3060ti but got sick of waiting for prices and stock so now im looking at 6600 and this monitor has G-sync. should i reconsider?
g sync compatible*
g sync shouldnt really be a deal breaker or not when looking at monitors
Can you control the rgb on ballistix
yes
It's so much thinner than the corsair
Ik it shouldnt be a deal breaker but it shouldnt cause any issues with an amd card
right?
And i thought the monitor is amazing for 300 or am i wrong
wouldnt cause any issues since it also has free sync
lg ultragear tends to be pretty good
What's the difference between the corsair and crucial
only issue imo is that its a va panel instead of ips
I saw. I looked
looks wise, they have different heat shields and rgb, inside though they have different components and crucial has better parts
but its not like Im using it as a secondary monitor. Ill be looking straight at it so veiwing angles dont matter that much
Ok
viewing angle is much of a problem for any monitor unless youre at an extreme angle but just for colors for me. hard for me to go back to tn or va
even though its 27" instead of 32", at the same price the m27q is ips
I mean 95% Srgb and much better blacks than IPS speaks for itself
Blacks mean alot to me because my phone and tv are oled. Dont want to step too far back
itd probably be better to try and find the ips version of the ultragear if you do want a 32" monitor
I'll look. Its a costco exclusive though
and it hits a $300 price points because its VA but ill look
if nothing then again, ultra gear is still good
500 for same monitor on best buy but IPS. Cant beat costco but ill keep looking
how about this. Costco only sells the 32 ultragear in VA though
yeah thats a nice big one
esp for price
i would say if you are sitting 1.5ft or farther away from your screen, then that one is awesome
but, if you think you will be sitting somewhat closer to it, then it can put strain on your neck and eyes to be looking all over a massive panel
My desk is 21 inches front to back im 30 from the back of the desk
is it worth another $50 for 5 hz and ips?
thats a distance
if youre working on stuff that would benefit from an ips panel like color accurate stuff or you want that better color just in general, then yes
oh the one for 300 is also 32
the difference in hz is negligible
so its really just the panel type. imo, IPS is definitely worth paying for
TN just
doesnt look good
the ultra gear is VA not IPS
Va not TN
Ips better imo but yeah
I wouldnt look at a TN tbh
its a matter of va vs ips, but me personally id go for the ips panel
Va has better blacks right?
yes
VA and IPS are very similar
I dont want the gray instead of black that ips gives you though because my phone and tv are oled
So VA's blacks are really attracting to me
I could run cod at ultra settings while streaming 120fps on a 3060 ti, it'd do fine at 1440p
6600 will be fine ayyyy
And 120 fps was the low, normally around 150
I feel like ive repeated this a few times but I was deadset on a 3060ti until i waited 3 months and got tired of waiting for prices and stock
So i turned to the 6600 as a in stock alt to a 3060 that is half the current price
This me 4 months of shuffle to get a 3060ti. I was going daily for all 3060s, 3060tis, and lower end 3070s.
A buddy of mine seems to win something about once a month so go figure 🤷♂️
@honest anchor do you have a parts list for the pic posted in #build-pics

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4q7mPX
is this an okay build ( im prob gonna wait for the gpu price to go down again)
is that your budget?
around that yes but i can upgrade it when i get the money\
Anyone available to help me put together a build
Budget?
use case?
Are you fine with a pre built? abs has a 3070 build for 1600 i believe
Actuallt now that I think about it
I don’t mind dropping 2k
That's a pretty bad price considering a 12400f build isn't much more with a 3070
What will the build be used for?
I’m trying to dive into game dev so I’m not trying to cheap out
Mr111, are there any decently priced heatsinks for lga1700 now?
Or is it still the hyper 212
v5
I’ve been doing research, it just seems a little confusing trying to understand what I need
When are you planning on buying everything
Pcp doesn't have heatsinks that use a bracket, atleast not most it looks like
Now, I’m trying to see the actual price of everything
When the p400a digital is up to 90$
pcpp is dumb sometimes
Oh also
Good kit of 3600c16 ram? Crucial 32gb kit isn't on sale anymore
And the only one I can find is 80$ for 16gb
K ty
Might need a diff case tho, is p400a digital still worth at 90? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZxRQzf
Leaves rest of your budget to get a 3060 ti, 3070, or 3080 if you're lucky
I’m so lost 🤣
yea digital def worth at 90$
Also the cooler
Alr
board price is a bit sad but oh well
why not 12400 non-f
its cheaper and you get igp
Because pcp didn't show it in stock until just now, because pcp is a great website
lol
When y’all get done I need y’all both to help me
Alr here we go https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bTpttn
What with?
this list is for you btw
I know there are 6900xts in stock on newegg often, are there any decently priced 6800xts?
I’m trying to get a build together for game dev
Doesn't look like it yeah
We've been making you a parts list
Ohh mybad, I thought y’all were talking about something different
anyways I was asking what it was for earlier, but game dev could use better cpu
Dw about it
12600k +z690-a pro?
ehh
Or 12700k
could go freezer ii
Yeah was going to
Does it need 360 or is 280 fine
Only 2$ more for 360 lmao, going with that
Alr how's this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Cpz2Fg
makes budget a bit tighter for gpu but its a start
Said it's up to 1k
@coral sigil What software are you planning on using for game dev?
Do you know if it's cpu or gpu focused?
Maybe 12600k + 3060 ti then?
I'll just quote puget
The processor (or CPU) is one of the most important pieces of a Unreal Engine development workstation.
Probably going to be doing heavy coding
Currently, Unreal Engine utilizes the video card solely to display the graphics on the screen. Many applications in other fields have begun using the GPU for other tasks as well, but this has not yet been implemented in the Unreal Editor.
so no gpu accel, but gpu good for looking at it
Would 3060 be enough then?
prob want to do 3060ti still imo
Mm
but CPU will be most important for perf
Player how much do you want to stay around 1600$?
Saving money is good though
And how long are you fine with waiting to get a gpu
How did you guys decide between going with intel or amd? When I originally started, I started with Amd but I just heard a few great things about it do y’all suggest Intel though?
atm, Intel is just better performance and price wise
Even factoring in the difference in mobo price
12600k can beat 5800x often at 100$ cheaper
although z690 can be nearly 100$ more than b550, its still better performance
I don’t mind spending 2k but if we save a little that’s cool too, but only if it’s necessary, if I just come out better with a few better parts I rather do that
could start entering shuffle for 600$ 3060ti's starting today xD
https://www.newegg.com/product-shuffle
I'd do this list and go for a 3060 ti then
Do you know about the gpu shortage?
No I didn’t know
and okay I’m going to take a look at that list. It’s the last one you sent right
GPUs are in short supply, lots of scalping.
Damn that’s tuff
So I looked at the list
just don't do 600$ for 3060 12gb, despite 12gb being a bigger number, worse gpu with slower vram
Only 1091? 👀
That's without the GPU atm
GPU will prob cost you from 400 to 1000$
Could go for these on the shuffle today
Bet, and if not where else you typically look
Shuffle simplest option
Gotcha
3060ti hard to get through other methods, other methods involve just clicking faster than everyone else and/or get lucky with drops
whats your budget for the psu
No, FX is the older worse crappy version of GX
oh ok confusing marketing
not quite sure rn just looking at what's on sale
check out the bitfenix gold formula 650
it's out of stock on most sites for me
just third party sellers for way too much money
Where are you
canada
Iirc CX was priced well in Canada
My Secretlab Titan Softweave arrives today, super excited!
@little osprey using a CPU cooler is also cool
wanna see what i used because i forgot to bring my own lmao
oh...
oh no
that looks awful
what on earth is that heatsink
they really said why use fins when I can take inspiration from ground beef
I had no idea until recently, apaprently someone on HWBot recognized it: https://silentpcreview.com/review-swiftech-mcx462-v-for-socket-a/
December 10, 2003 by Russ Kinder Product MCX462-V Heatsink for Socket A CPUs Manufacturer Swiftech MSRP ~US$49.95 The MCX462-V is the Socket A counterpart to the MCX478-V recently reviewed by Ralf Hutter. It’s a clear continuation of the classic Swiftech heatsink design: Thick copper base, with helicoid aluminum pins press fitted into the base...
idk where the mounting hardware is for it
LOL ground beef
bro does it not have a cold plate
What do you mean? There's the copper base there
With a protrusion thats about the size of an IHS
does anyone know how to get dosbox
also
is a 1080p 144hz monitor for $160 a good deal?
Depends on what monitor
do you want the link
When people say, “Size doesn’t matter,” they’re talking about the compact powerhouse that is the GFV22CB from VIOTEK. A 22-inch full-HD monitor with an expertly calibrated VA panel that delivers sharp, true-to-life colors, in a compact form-factor ideal for anyone looking to maximize desk space a...
Yeah no
It's 22" idk much about it and you can get this for 9$ more
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/NKsnTW/asus-tuf-gaming-vg24vq-236-1920x1080-144-hz-monitor-90lm0570-b011b0
you mean $20 more
$180
on my screen it's for $180
Yeah hence why i showed the +10$ off
Can someone make a pc parts picker list which is for my friend. His budget is at least $1,500 but $1,800 at most. Can you include a gpu too?
ah, perfect budget for a ivybridge xeon build (joking)
T'was about to whop yo ass
With or without monitor/ mouse and keyboard?
@fossil cedar
Nvm
I think this is normal
Why does this look used
@stoic island
Can anyone help?
?
Might just be a small manufacturing screw up
I can confirm it was used
I took off the m.2 heat sink and there was hair on it
Oh fun
Yea
you get it from NE?

just got told a 1160$ 12700k build isnt worth it because you can get cheaper by buying used off ebay
and then got linked a 12700k thats 25$ cheaper than on pcp
i love people
(3k budget btw)
Bacca want me to put you a build list together?
i already did
Oh sweet can I peak it
oh just saw this
one sec
only thing im unsure on is the psu, and i told him to wait for the ram to go back on sale https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2gXgXy
All good but I'm down take a look 🪱
Looks pretty good
going off of what ive seen pato do for the most part lol
Super flower good iirc
That was almost the same build I went with corsair 850x instead was a tough choice and a slightly different case and I went amd for a good deal but I initially wanted to go intel
What gpu are you going with?
not for me
i told them any decently priced gpu, maybe 6900xt oc formula from newegg
6900xt is best from ebay for 1300 to 1400ish but newegg had a pretty good deal for 1459 the other day and a rebate I almost got it but don't quite have that rn
anyone have suggestions for a laptop with a 30 series card that is low profile and can work for everyday use + gaming?
price range is pretty much sub 3k
still? couldve sworn it was the same when I was looking years ago
so im upgrading my cpu mobo and ram, what do i have to do to ensure nothing messes up, should i factory reset or do a fresh install of windows?
it should be fine to keep windows as is
ya, it still is the best
What about older mobo drivers already on a drive?
hey i realized once my rpi3b arrives that i can separate my builds: the stronger generic pc for work, and the rpi 3b with raspbian/retropie for emu box
it's a fightstick and a pc
funny how it fits the form factor of a series s
Forks, or gopro strapped to 4head?
Just ask normally in chat please, someone will come soon
well windows takes care of that most of the times
Custom loop planned for Cthulhu's upcoming water-cooled build

@karmic bluff a6400, sigma 16mm
Can someone explain to me how nvme's taking performance from pcie lanes work?
If the nvme is right below the first 16 lane pcie lane for the graphics card, is it halving the lane the graphics card is on?
Nope, nvme's have their own dedicated lanes either directly to the cpu or through the chipset
If anything a cpu will dedicate some resources to it if decide to load a large file while playing a game or doing something else cpu intensive… so you might take a bit of a hit to cpu performance if you know, decide to transfer files or something.
That's the same with any sata drive though
Would you recommend it over Canon or Nikon (used)?
Yeah
Just this one will take up a bit more processing power cuz of the rate of transfer unless I’m dumb and that’s incorrect either way I’m just memeing
What is it then that halves the pcie lanes?
Sometimes a 2nd gpu but it just depends on the motherboard
Look into the Gigabyte A7 X1
Best laptop with a 3070
Is there any good budget ddr4 ram?
Sure gskill pretty affordable.
What’s your budget
Alot of thier ic's are sk hynix though 3600mhz and under.
Not that big
you can usually get a 16gb 3200c16 kit for around $50 brand new
Ok
Check this out on @Newegg: G.SKILL Trident Z RGB (For AMD) 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C18D-16GTZRX https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232728?Item=N82E16820232728&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-20-232-728-_-02022022
$89 not too shaby, thry have non rgb version for cheaper if you on tighter budget.
Check this out on @Newegg: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C18D-16GVK https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232882?Item=9SIB7ZPGX25849&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-9SIB7ZPGX25849-_-02022022
3600c18 at xmp is basically equivalent or worse than 3200cl16 usually so that's actually awful pricing, you can get 32gb of 3200cl16 for like 95$ or some 3600cl16 16gb for like 75 ish
Your right and wrong there. As far as memory latency they are the same. BUT if he is running Amd ryzen he will see a very noticeable increase in system response and speed during almost every task due to the fclk increase from 3200mhz to 3600mhz.
If you ignore subtimings, 3600cl18 is better*
But the other timings matter too
*fclk increase from 1600mhz to 1800mhz. Also thats only if zen 2 or zen 3 because you wont even boot on 3600mts ram at 1:1 fclk(unless apu because monolithic).
running fclk at 3200mhz is very much impossible
even on monolithic apus
Didn't say the fclk was going from 3200mhz to 3600mhz said it would increase with memory speed at 1:1 going from 3200-3600mhz. Fclk 1600-1800mhz.
I like your funny words magic man
I got 3600c18 for 40$
And now 32gb 3200c16 for 90$, which shouldve/should arrive today
@frank stirrup Was it you that was helping me find a desk?
sure you didnt
nah
i know nothing about desks
Anyone good with aesthetics?
Hey is there a video on installation of a hard drive?
What type?
Seagate ironwolf NAS
Nice setup. Why do the monitors seem crazy high?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/N4fYcb
any recommendations on changes I should make on this build? It's for my friend and it will pretty much only be used for gaming and school work.
Nothing glaring to change
Also probably won't be getting that monitor because TN so ignore it
Also GPU will be added later
how much later?
I'd go for 12600K non-F personally unless they really want to try to run heavy games on igpu for a long time
uhd 770 is competent for basic use and esports/light games and the CPU side is stronger
ryzen G apus have nerfed cpu performance compared to their X counterparts
Id do this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/w8Drxs
Or thus if they really need the strong igpu
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RTQj4s
I don't even have to look to know the lists are good, it's (not) pato making them
Lol 😳

I don't think you did unless it was before i started knowing some monitors too
Yes, now if only i could peripheral good
Even I don't get keyboard speak yet
Ngl just don't really care about peripherals other than mice, mouse sensor good and nice shape, all i need
Mr1 is the peripheral techie lol I'll let him keep that throne
Oh yeah because they mods i forgot they was also techie for a sec lol
Woops
Oh that's cool
no, pato bad techie
did you hear he made a mistake once
smh
also my phone just tried to autocorrect pato to apron
yeah
that guy shouldn't be a techie smh
imagine breaking a 3090
I no longer techie
@sullen spoke where's the gaming setup lol
lmao
Circle of life or something
you can actually
they grow up so fast
rommy I'm giving you rookie role
get rekt
mod abuse moment
Noooo give credit to like statik and nachos
Honestly I'd be surprised if any techie hasn't broken some hardware
thanks
Wait i don't think i can, nooooo
It's harder on mobile
I missed wolfgang and couldn't remember if nachos was techie or just mod woops
Same thing
@elfin flame
Btw I feel like you're getting close to z690 territory with 180$ b660
That is a 189$ z690
It's okay so am i
I must drive now byebye
Just gonna note possibly going pg riptide or z690-a pro though
But 190$ makes it decent
How? Magic!
Yeah but was keeping cost down to help get gpu quicker
Mhm, just noting it
Anyways tbf haven't seen nachos in a while
Yeye i would usually but keeping down the cost
I've seen them pop on now n again but not often
How much worse would it be if I went with my original parts other than the ssd and monitor you recommended? Just for aesthetic purposes.
hello. need some help here. i have this build and currently everything is in my newegg shopping cart except the gpu and case since those are currently are out of stock. I have been waiting for at least 1 month for the gpu to become available and no luck yet. I cannot wait anymore. Can someone help me what would be an alternative to that gpu and also it has to be in stock atm on newegg. maybe help with the case too pls
I hate this, i move my pc and now it no post
bruh some flying object I didn't get a good look at dropped something onto the freeway
what even
I'm confused
looked like a black brick
The only downgrade was the ssd a bit, power supply, just as good, way cheaper, motherboard wasn't actually that price on Amazon was a glitch with pccp, frost spirit 140 is better for amd cpus.
For the 12600k one, cpu is better , igpu is not as good
the aliens are invading
Get off phone you drive, this why no techie smh
What's your budget?
And use for the pc?
When I checked earlier on Amazon it actually said $77 for the MB. I think he will need to go AMD here because it might be a while till he gets a gpu.
Uh oh my pc booted without gpu, wtf
iGPU?
Ye on igpu now
And would the crucial ram be good if he really wanted rgb?
Im going to cmos and put gpu back in
Maybe just needed to reseat gpu
Possibly ill do that first
I mean yeah i personally just couldn't justify 90$ for 3600cl16 ram
Actually ill clear cmos anyway. I had a bootloader problem few months back
I love that you actually named yourself apron
Clear cmos doesn't hurt
I was at a very familiar 3 minute red light lol
I'm not texting and driving
Ik you love me 😉
I’m texting and walking
Lol that was cringe ew
3 minutes damn
I forgiv
gaming/streaming. mainly game fps, to be more specific csgo but also planning to explore other fps games here and there
And whats thr budget?
<=$2500
i think the setup that i shared is fine tbh
just the gpu is out of stock on newegg
so trying to find an alternative
i5 12600k z690 board and if I was you I'd get a 6900xt for 1300 or so off ebay
Okay 1 sec nate
Yep that did it
Nice
Would be very sad if i manage to kill gpu in time like this
Indeed, but it's working now so it's a time to celebrate
Now dont tell forks but im gonna use xmp for now
xD
O_O
Ayy the boot process is fixed, wow i spent like 4 months with that problem too lazy to fix
caught in 4K
Neat
For just under 2.5k
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/PvgYcb
There are no xmp users here
Uh oh
masochist gang has been activated
Inb4 ghosty has b die or rev e
Welp i got everything setup for the first shot and realized my camera battery is dead.. guess ill play around with the lighting while a wait
Maybe get a cookie too
Time to wait for it to charge
is the Seagate BarraCuda 2tb reliable?
thank you
i told you the other day that i dont know what do buy for rgb/white lights and someone else would be able to help you better than me, and i dont want to suggest smthn that might not work properly for you
shoot anyways
what are you asking for?
you messaged me about it a few days ago
You mean a powersupply?
Got the first pics, now gotta get the whole setup and edit
@sullen spoke whats the desk?
I can’t find the exact one, its from a store that changes stock regularly but its some kind of oak texture folding desk from homesense or homegoods
What's a good x570 to look out for in the second hand market? And a good price to pay? I see prices varying from $80-200+ for used boards.
What CPU?
Unless you need the extra gen 4 lanes of a x570, a new b550 is probably the better choice for you
currently a 5 3600 but its gonna be a 7 5800x
okay cool!
Def cheaper and you'll get better value with one
Thanks, value is definitely my main priority. Got any recommendations on boards?
Pro vdh wifi is a very epic
Has bios flashback, good capability, and wifi, for a great price
cool cool! I'll look into it. Dumb question, does it have 4 case fan headers?
The board I currently have seemingly only has 2 lol
seagate barracuda 2tb reliable?
As reliable as when you asked 4 hours ago and I replied
Is a 1660 good at reatil rn?
Like if you are paying its original retail price for it?
Ya
If you can get a plain old 1660 for $220 that would good
Fair enough thanks
i've realized my PSU fan is the main source of 'loud' noise from my PC but seems like there isnt anything that can be done about it except buying a PSU with a quieter fan 😦
hopefully flipping it so the fan is facing upwards helps
pretty sure its the corsair rm750 btw
i wonder if you could put a case fan on top of a PSU with its fan facing upward to assist the PSUs fan.. just a question of if the PSU fan even changes RPM based on temperature
You could take the PSU apart and change the fan out
yeh right lol
Not recommended unless you really know what you're doing
Not a big deal really. Just make sure to match up voltage rating and size
In most cases, you'll have PSU fan facing downwards taking in fresh air from the bottom of the case
if you are lucky it may even have a fan plug inside the PSU to just unplug the old one and plug in new.
I actually JUST dropped a new Corsair rm750x into a machine i put together today
RMx is better than RM tbf, I think better fan on top of better internals
that is how it is currently but i was thinking maybe the fan facing upwards could be good for cooling cause the fan is pushing the air the natural way hot air will go (up) without it just pushing it into the top metal plate of the psu, if you know what im getting at.. but I think that is just overthinking lol, but it facing upwards could still be good to have a case fan on top of it assisting the psu fan
I installed mine with fan facing down so the PSU has its own supply of cool air rather than pulling in hot air from the case
the fan pulls air into the PSU and vents out the back IIRC
so if you aim it up, it iwll be pulling air from inside the case and then venting it out back
does your modulate the fan speed? I know my RM750x is dead silent in the two machines ive put them in
and only ramps up the fan if it needs to
It even had a little tag on it when I installed it saying that the fan may not even run at all
i think its at a constant speed, i wish i could see like the RPM of it and exactly how much power my PC is using rn
ahh ok
probably difference betwen the rm and rmx
I was surprised when I ordered the rmx the other day.. was only $100
im gonna check that
Eventually ill order up a redundant PSU for it as this build is a new/used server I got cheap
20 core xeons 😄
I found the PSU on amazn with next day delivery. Just eneded something to get this server up and running
I have the rm750x in the machine that this new one is replacing and its been running for 2 years 24/7 and the PSU is still dead quiet
they both have specialized fan curves and will shut off completely at low-med load
ok cool
but when i set all my pc fans to 0 in bios to see where the noise was coming from, it should have been at low load, and the psu fan was still on
yeah PSU fan is controlled by the PSU itself IIRC
and thats driven by load or cooling need
yeh and it should have been at low load just in bios
just a year
WHen I power down the old machine I could pop the top on the PSU and see if that fan is easily replaceable
a year shouldnt make too much of a difference in a fan
im thinking ill flip it so i can monitor its fan better, cant see it so maybe it does turn off sometimes and i dont notice
btw its not a bad noise i cant live with its just i finally got new pc fans and so now im picky over every noise coming from my pc and the psu fan is the only thing left standing out
rate https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Pheeny1/saved/#view=cHr6Q7 gonna wait for gpu prices to go down fosho
Plz don't suggest random people take apart their psu. Many capacitors and such in there that can give a good zap (aka possible death).
looks good, could add a 250gb nvme SSD for not much more for windows to go on plus like 3/4 of it left for some games to run a little faster
explain that in simple words pls im kinda new to pc building
Just an example, but there's other better options too - 250GB ones are often much worse value
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zFK2FT/western-digital-blue-sn550-500-gb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-wds500g2b0c
ssd's are a lot faster than the internal harddrive you have selected, but they are more expensive, you could get a cheap 250gb ssd and install windows onto it to make your PC fully launch/load all programs in like 30 seconds vs a 1 minute 30 seconds and certain games on an SSD instead of a harddrive will have faster load screens and sometimes more FPS
its just a harddrive alternative
m.2 ssd goes here, no cables needed like SATA
but you will want to keep a large harddrive because 250gb isnt enough by itself
np
ssd isn't a hard drive alternative
ssd is mandatory in 2022
hard drive is an alternative to a second ssd
10 second boot vs 1+ minute for one, and everything opens much faster.
hdd to ssd upgrade is more important than like 6 cpu generations lol
if you had to daily drive an i7-6700 + ssd vs. 5800x + hdd pretty sure you'd be picking the i7-6700 + ssd
the last time i used a machine with no ssd
yeh but why spend a butt load on a 2tb ssd when you can download windows on a 250gb and get all the speed and have left over room for hte important games and put not important games on an HDD?
i pressed the power button
went out for lunch
came back 45 mins later and it was almost ready
...that's still an ssd
you are literally supporting my point
I just dont shut my HDD machines down
did i say 2tb ssd is mandatory? lol
i recommended he get an ssd on top of his 2tb hdd
have 280+TB of spinny rust in the other room for data. But SSDs and/or NVMe is a must for OS drive.
a crappy little 256gb ssd is cheap enough that theres no excuse to not have one unless your budget for the whole pc is like $50
have seen used 256gb ssds sell for $10/pc in lots lol
you shouldnt say an ssd is mandatory though when someone on a budget can get by fine with a hdd just with slower speeds, people on a budget make compromises, shouldnt say the option they cant afford is mandatory
downgrade something else by $10 to afford a $10 ssd lol
fun fact, a case is an entirely optional component
if i'm picking between a case and an ssd you bet i'm slapping that pc in a cardboard box
Agreed. SSD definitely ISNT mandatory. But its a huge improvement for a little $$. IF that $50 makes the difference between getting a machine or not, then go for the HDD and upgrade to an SSD later.
in my not densely populated area, id be unbelieveably lucky to find a 250gb ssd for $10
I like the 500Gb as it gives you a bit of extra space for processes that might benefit from the speed. I use one specifically for archiving DVDs
But sure, you could go with a 128 if needed
sure, but if your entire build budget is $100 that's probably out of reach
but you can still (and definitely should) get an ssd in a $100 build budget
crappiest ssd you can salvage from a dumpster will still slap hdd silly
every single machine I run is salvaged. haha
good on you for preventing e-waste
i've got some plans for some older machines at home to go into budget gaming rigs
except for the HDDs. everything else is someone elses trash. 🙂
i did an upgrade for a customer's old office pc
offered him $80 for his old cpu/mobo/ram
he said just keep it
the enterprise servers Im running wre bought for pennies.. and still have 2-3 years of highest tier warranty left
i5-4670 + z87 + 8gb ddr3
not too shabby at all
swapped the 4670 + $27 for a xeon e3-1241v3
added 8gb ram for $20
$47 for a respectable 4c/8t 16gb rig
thats awesome
want to pair it with a 1060 when prices go down
give it some rgb and make some local kid happy
the machnie i got running today is a dual Xeon E5-2680 v2. 20 processors each. Perfect for running my security cameras
little bit more than a gaming system LOL
It was scrapped
crazy what some people/companies will just throw away sometimes
yep
One of the first enterprise servers I got had barely 1 year of use on it. And that use was sitting in an equipment closet as it was still brand new when I got it for free after it was ordered to be ewasted
Theres lots of awesome equipment to be had out there
The tape backup setup that I just added is all on 8Gb fiber channel network.. Those cards are crazy cheap. $10-15 each
added a $10 multimode fiber cable and a little configuration and it all works
currently on tape #13/55 backing up all the arrays.
my storage needs are very small
i bought too much
got good deals on both and figured it's better to have more and never worry than have barely enough and always worry
installed my whole game library and it's still almost empty lol
all my work files fit on 20gb free cloud storage
gn
Approx how many games do you have? I have around 30 of 80 steam games installed and a few other things. Some games are just overly complex. Got hooked on Apex even though 1 life per "match" is super annoying sometimes.
very few lol
Making do w/ a 250ssd+1tb hdd setup , haha. Soon enough it'll be a 500m.2+1tb MX500.
probably have like 10-15 games
Well you're doing better than those of us buying way more games than we've played.
lol, a lot of these games i got for free along with buying hardware
Pretty much all of mine were on sale. Most recent buy of Back 4 Blood was still $30+, but I figured I'd try it w/ some friends (normally $50 or $60). Can't recall my other last purchases.
Some good looking setups in the build pics chat
Some people seem to have their monitors much farther back than I normally do 😅 . Ghosty is that a BlackWidow keyboard?
can someone help me ??
my miscroft wont open and it wont install at all and i get a error everytime i even try to open up any site on my google or micrsoft wdge and it gives me like a msedge.exe error or somthing
You're welcome :)
Try this
#windows-ios message
It's also possibly a virus, so check for that
@long rock , the way your PC is positioned at the edge of the table sent my anxiety through the roof.
@frank stirrup
lol apron
XD
Also bestbuy is restocking some as we speak saw a 6500xt and a 3050 I think just not listed as available stock yet but could be ordered* so for those looking keep an eye out im off to crash night
I am apron
Shill the all mighty apron
hmmmmm
apron too insignificant to shill

Yes
Perfect
I really only need an 850w, but that price for a 1000w? I'll take the 1000
Oh, uh wrong message to reply to, but still
Fair enough
Intel Core i7-12700K - Core i7 12th Gen Alder Lake 12-Core (8P+4E) 3.6 GHz LGA 1700 125W Intel UHD Graphics 770 Desktop Processor - BX8071512700K and OLOy Blade RGB 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR5 SDRAM DDR5 6200 (PC5 49600) Intel XMP 3.0 Desk
thinking about getting this, any thoughts?
and compatible with this cpu??
yes
Depending on country ofc, if you're in the US, I'd go msi a pro z690 ddr4 and some 3600cl16 ram, g skill or ballistix are usually the cheapest, avoid corsair
msi z690 a pro
ok ty that will probably save me likie 400.00
Yep will be better too
G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C16D-32GTZRC
$184.99
like that?
tbh, IDC what it looks like
Y avoid Corsair?
I run Corsair w/o issue
Bad ram and overpriced
I've had em for like 4 years?
Here's a cheaper kit if you don't want rgb
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zcH8TW/gskill-ripjaws-v-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr4-3600-memory-f4-3600c16d-32gvkc
am I better off getting 2x16 or 1x32?
2x16
Their ram is overpriced snd meh, that's why i said avoid
I haven't built a pc in over 25 years so...
No worriess
when I first started building computers we were excited when the 386DX came out lol
Damm that's a long while ago
the Pentium 166 was the bombdiggity then
times have changed, so I might need you guys help when i go to assemble this thing
No prob, thats what we're here for
gonna buy/accumulate all the parts over the next 3-6 months. I want a system I aint gonna have to update for a few years
if I wanted to later(couple few years later) I could always get the DDR% and motherboard right?
DDR5
it will probably be half the price then it is now anyway
if I'm not overclocking what is the typical life expectancy of the cpu?
A while
My dad has a i7-3rd gen that's still kicking
And he didn't replace the thermal paste for like 10 years
LOL
Yeah
And this is a laptop i7-3rd gen
And he's also military so it's been in the desert quite a few times
So its gotten HOT
I would highly advice against that, if you get a dead on arrival part it's not going to be fun, best bet is to save up all the money and buy the parts then
Ddr5 is still worse than good ddr4 at the moment so there's no point
Decades, also if you're not overclocking no need to get a z motherboard and k cpu
so what are you saying get a pre-built or just all the parts in one shot?
Buy all parts at omce
Just buy all the parts in one go
*once
i have a core 2 duo form 2007 thats still rinning in my laptop
0 repastes
sounds good I'll get together with my son and his best friend and get a parts list and see what you all think. probably just might do this in a couple weeks
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ is your friend
Sounds good
yeah, my sons bestfriend turned me on to that site yesterday
so does it check for compatability?
yep
kewl beans
ping pato or me when you have the list ready so we can suggest changes
ok ty
pato is the apron nerd btw
looking to keep it under 2500.00 for a system that will last at least 5 years.
thats with monitor etc.. lol gotta keep up with my son or he wont keep in touch with me LOL
told my wife it was for father son bonding
heres something to compare your list to
if you can get better parts for cheaper, go for it
otherwise get that prebuilt
To be fair that is open box tho
it is just baseline tbf
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FZWYcb this is a good baseline imo
gotta have monitor and peripherals
Oh true
slap on that 6900xt
12600 + 240mm aio (maybe 6800), add monitor and keyb and mouse
Not for under 2.5k
Haha, reminds me of having the FX 5950 Ultra & dad had 6800 GT (aka couple of the very last agp vidcards around 15 yrs ago). 😅 later on I ended up with better parts since I got an upgrade sooner.
what are you alls thought on coolers ie liquid or not??
@bright dome
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8Tjj4s okay new baseline because you need the 2.5k to include the monitor keyboard and mouse
Mmm
Actually
couldnt the vid be a 3060 and get the i7? later the video card could be upgraded right
IDK if the price diffrence makes up for the cpu
what will you use the PC for?
I'd do this actually
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2jq6Mb
games with my son and friends, we have a group of us old foggies that still play too lol
then better have a better gpu over a better cpu
ooh yes, 12400 + 6800xt
I've been asking myself about ryzen compared to intel. AMD has always been a gaming device so... thoughts?
The better gpu and "not as good cpu" would be the better choice unless they only want to play CSGO
Intel 12th gen is the way to go at the moment
nah, things have flip flopped in the last couple of years, currently Intel holds the crown for frames/dollar
then just as a personal prefrence I'd rather go with a i7 minimum, even if that means i have to drop the budget to 700-900 for the vid card.
just so you know, that will reduce your frame rate
I'm lucky if i get 40fps on this laptop as it is. I F@##kin hate it lol
the systems siggested by Apron and I will give you 100fps at 1440p
Intel
okay, let me book mark that. I'll get back to you guys in a couple days. just might go ahead and order it this weekend

for some reason it's not letting me "save as" for that parts list
can you re-post it and I'll try again please?
and thank you peeps for doin all the work
I DM (direct messaged) it. 👍
okay got it was able to save it too
thanks again peeps for doin all the work for me lol
i gotta kick my son and his friends arse gaming and i think you guys may have helped me do it lol
catch you all later
