Make sure you talk to them at least once. I personally time travel 2 weeks (14 days). One villager will have a thought bubble over their head. If it's not the unwanted villager, close the game and reopen it until its the villager you want gone that has a thought bubble.

You have to be quick on finding the villager with a thought bubble tho, to avoid the game autosaving

• You invited them but they say "there's no space on this island" this happens because you have less than 10 villagers : you need to put a plot for them to move in (sell land option from Tom Nook)
• Your gates are opened, you need to have the gates closed for them to be able to ask.
• Campsite villagers can play the game and still not move in, be patient and persistent, they will ask to move in eventually.

The first camper will always ask to move in, it is mandatory for progression
Amiibo campers require that you complete 3 crafting quests over 3 visits before they ask to move in

I don't think so.. I recently redid my island, so I can't show a pic, but I used to have one of my river mouths closed off and it looked fine to me. Maybe ask in #island-designs and see if someone has theirs closed off?

If you have a lower amount of trees, then you won't have as many tree bugs, as they don't have anywhere to spawn, and it takes longer for respawns to happen.

Should I restart my island?
When restarting, you will lose all of your DIYs and catalog. The start of the game is very tedious and people tend to forget this when resetting.
It is easier to remove everything and flatten your island.
Restart only if you don't like the position of your RS, airport, river ends, northern beach, etc.
