WHAT IS THE MIDDLEMAN SERVICE? RoleRover

A <@&750143888131358790> is a dedicated member of staff who can ensure your trades, whatever the value, are safe from scams through acting as a third party. They can also help with holding villagers and resetting your island, where they can hold a maximum of 320 items to transfer over to your new island.

The purpose of our service is to give server members peace of mind when transferring items or villagers to another player of having their items held while restarting. By requesting our service, we keep both parties involved while trading, whether that be for items; villagers or Redd items and keep them safe from potential scams. The way we help prevent scams is by having a middlemen hold the agreed items and payments to ensure that each person receives their half of the agreed trade. If you are resetting your island, you can relax, knowing that up to 320 of your items are in safe hands, with no risk of loss or theft. Some members of the middleman team can also hold a villager for a server member who wants their “real” house for one of their starters or want to keep them for their new island.

REQUESTING A MIDDLEMAN

  1. Before requesting, please ensure you have read through the terms of service listed below as well as the guidelines of which service you are requesting.
  2. Head over to #request-a-middleman🛎️🙋‍♀️ and use the template that corresponds to the service you are requesting to submit your request. Each template for each request can be easily copied and filled out under the section of the service you are requesting.
  3. Once you have submitted your request, every middleman that is available at that time will receive a ping to indicate and let them know your request has been submitted.
  4. When a member of the team accepts your request, you (and your trading partner if applicable) will be given access to a private trading channel which only members of staff can view.
  5. When added to your private trading channel, the middleman taking your request will verify and confirm the rules for the service you have requested and explain how your request will be conducted.

⚠️ If the channel is locked, unfortunately a middleman isn't available to assist with your request at this time.

  • When your request is accepted and you (and your trading partner if applicable) are added to one of our trading rooms, please follow the guidelines you receive from the middleman taking your request. If you are not willing to comply with the rules, your request may be declined.
  • Please be respectful and patient when requesting a middleman. We cannot always guarantee an immediate response and any form of harassment will not be tolerated.
  • Members of the middleman team are volunteering their time to help you. Please do not try to attempt to abuse the service in any way.
  • WETSUITS are NOT PERMITTED to be worn during any part of your request under any circumstance.
    • This is to prevent players from accessing unauthorised parts of an island. Wetsuits allow the player to dive and swim in the ocean and can therefore be a way for a scam to take place.
  • We do not recommend requesting our service if you have NAT type C or below as you may have difficulty connecting to the middleman helping with your request, due to it being more restricting on who you can connect with online.

UNDERSTANDING NAT TYPES:
Depending on your NAT type (Network Address Translation), you may find it hard to connect to other players via online play. Typically, those with NAT types A and B are the best connections to have and can therefore connect to most players. If you have a D NAT type, you will unfortunately only be able to connect with those with an A type. You can check your NAT type by going to System > Internet > Test Connection.

If you are apprehensive about someone coming to your island and are worried about them not providing the agreed payment or service, you can now request a middleman to act as a third party to oversee the exchange to ensure that no scam can occur while they are visiting your island. We can also help assist with verifying turnip prices or if you have an entry fee for people to sell on / visit your island!

How does requesting a middleman prevent a potential scam from occurring when trading?
When requesting a middleman to act as a trusted third party when trading with a server member, we will firstly verify with you and your trading partner that you have both agreed on the trade and the amount the item(s) are being traded for before proceeding. The middleman will hold the agreed price from the buyer and will only drop the payment to the seller once the promised item has been successfully delivered.

* In all of our trade services, there is a **LIMIT** of **4 INVENTORIES** per trading party. This means that you and your trading partner can have a middleman safely hold up to 160 items (4 inventories) of items or payment. 
* **BOTH** parties need to be members of the server in order to request our service. The middleman service can’t assist if you are trading with someone who is not in the server.
* There are no minimum requirements for requesting our trade services. No matter how big or small your request is, if you are unsure about trading with another member of the server, you can have peace of mind that you can request a middleman to act as a third party to ensure your trade goes smoothy!

* Middlemen are under no obligation to help with the service being provided if they do not wish, but feel free to ask if they'd like to be a second pair of hands!

PAID ISLAND VISITS
* If you are opening your island to visitors in [#island-hangouts🛩️🏝️](/guild/494376688256548865/channel/993876782149292152/)and are worried about members not paying the set entry fee, you can request a middleman to ensure that the payment is given before being allowed on the island. 
* The entry fee must be given to the middleman and verified before being permitted to fly to the island. The payment will be dropped to the host when they have landed.

VERIFYING TURNIP PRICES
* If you feel like an offer is too good to be true or are worried about being scammed, you can request a middleman to verify the turnip prices being advertised before flying over and providing the entry fee, if there is one. Once we have confirmed that they are they same price as advertised, you will then be given the go ahead to fly to their island.
* If you are worried about players not paying your set entry fee to sell on your island, you can also request a middleman to ensure that players give the payment before entering. The entry fee must be given to the middleman and verified before being permitted to fly to the island. The payment will be dropped to the host when they have landed.

  • Before requesting, please make sure you have all the items you wish to transfer prepared before requesting as this can take a long time to sort out if you are unsure of what items you would like to keep.
  • If you would like us to hold one of your villagers while you are resetting your island, please refer to the villager hold guidelines listed below. We will only support ONE VILLAGER PER REQUEST due to the limited availability of this service. A middleman can hold a villager for a maximum of 72 hours.

When carrying over NMTs or materials that stack in your inventory, please note that these count as ONE ITEM. For example, if you are wanting to carry over 30 pieces of each type of wood, this would only count as 3 items as opposed to 90. * When reserving a middleman, please note that you are only able to reserve up to **2 MIDDLEMEN PER REQUEST**. You will not be allowed to transfer more than 320 items by asking for more than 2 middlemen. 
* Only give your proposed time when a middleman adds you to one of our trade rooms. This is to avoid possible abuse of the service.

⚠️ If you do not request and schedule a time at least 24 hours in advance, we will consider and treat your request as a ‘walk-in’ reset, meaning that you will be capped at the 160 item limit, regardless of whether more than one middleman are helping with your request.

To reserve a middleman, simply follow and fill out the template indicating that you would like to schedule a time with a middleman to reset your island.

* Due to our small team, this service will be capped at 160 items (4 inventories). This is to help ensure that we have enough middlemen available to help with as many requests as possible. We plan to increase to the maximum of 320 items in the future depending on popularity. If you would like us to hold 320 items, you will need to adhere to the 2 hour time limit.

How does this service work?
Bell transfers will work slightly differently to regular island resets. Rather than individually withdrawing bells on your island and making several trips to drop them off, each middleman will have an ABD that you can use on their island to directly withdraw and drop bells straight from your account onto their island!

* Please ensure you have the villager you would like us to hold in boxes (or in the midst of moving off your island) prior to requesting. You may be turned away and asked to request at a later time when they're ready to move.
* We will only support **ONE VILLAGER PER REQUEST**. We will not hold more than one villager at a given time.
* As our time limit is 72 hours, you are **NOT REQUIRED** to **TIME TRAVEL**.
* If you’d like your villager back within **24 HOURS**, you will be required to time travel **ONE DAY** forward in order to open your plot and readopt your village from the middleman.
* Similarly, if you have parental controls enabled on your switch, we do not recommend using this service if you’d like your villager within **24 HOURS** due to the restriction on being able to time travel,

How much does the middleman service cost?

All of our services are free of charge. However, if you would like to give the team or the middleman taking your request a tip for their service, please ask the middleman taking your request beforehand!

Why are there time limits on certain services?

We have time limits on some of our services to allow our small team of middlemen to be available to as many people in our community as possible.

What if I need more time to choose an island?

If you end up needing more time than allocated, please consult with the middleman who is taking your request. We are not required to give time extensions, but can sometimes be a bit flexible if they are able!

Do bells count towards the item limit for resets and transfers?

Yes, they do. Any item that takes a space in your inventory counts towards your item limit.

Is there a set time or schedule for when the service is open?

Unfortunately, we do not have set times that we are open. Our services runs on the generosity of our middlemen, who are offering their spare time to help the community, so we can't guarantee when we'll be open and able to take requests.

Can a middleman find me a villager or item I want?

No! There are trade channels in the server to help you find items or villagers. A middleman can help keep your trade safe, but you have to set the trade up yourself.
