This makes sense as it's a doubling of all sources ie it's doubling the result, not the source - does that make sense?

materials are always provided at the original amount, then multipled by whatever the boost is when adding to inventory. Other direct sources may show the increased value, such as experience.

It's basically easier for them to x2 or x3 or whatever when it's added to inventory rather than have to update multiple sources like caches to show the increased amount, which might require a game update, then revert that all again at the end of the boost.

since most of your Proto Drops come from TL, and Gear Mods can't be Proto, you see the issue.

RNG is just probability, that's all the percentages translate to - how probable is it that a key will drop, and unless it's a sizeable increase, it really just won't be noticed. The ronin always dropping keys helps, but their spawn rate is also a layer of probability. Like I don't really care at this point? The time to collect another 40 keys to just complete the community thing will take a few days. So whatever. It's just unfortunate that, pragmatically, without a big increase, players are just not really going to notice much difference.

Is it better to have 55% crit and 131 crit dmg or 60 crit and 119 crit dmg?

I think 55 crit is optimal from what I remember tbh
