If your doing discovery it's largely a waste of time. I'd really recommend finding a group to do the actual thing and they can explain the basics of the whole raid as you go.

But going under there will avoid the mortars and having a tank with a (ideally full not half) shield will block the turret from shooting you. Healer will keep everyone topped up on armor.

Full red is ideally what you want for your basic raid build. Check the standard dps build guide that is in the pinned google doc in the build advice channel. The budget/easier to farm version is just a striker build that also has a guide in there.

To increase expertise level on guns?

the more items you make proficient, the higher your expertise goes. that expertise number is your limit on how many 1% upgrades you can add to weapon damage, base armor, or specific skill attribute

youll have that expertise dial in tinkering > expertise. the big number is actual expertise level, below that and much smaller shows how many proficiency levels you need to the next upgrade. example 0/90 the 90 means 9 items proficient (10 levels to max out each proficient item ). this 90 could be spread any way across a bunch of items.
its kinda like a clock with proficiency being the minute hand and expertise level being the hour hand

youll get the most bang for your buck focusing on farming weapons to donate to expertise. its the biggest hurdle to clear. you can also run non proficient items as secondary and pistol, theyll gain xp as you grind other stuff.
if you get totally full of materials they can be donated to specific items. i suggest using the excess for skills you dont use much > exotics > dz exclusives in that order.

Every single gear/weapon/skill item needs to get to rank 10 for it to become "proficient" - you do this by using a each brand/set/gun/skill or by donating junk of brand/set/gun or by donating materials to brand/set/gun/skill... Once each one is at "10" then your overall Expertise goes up and this is the rank that you use to increase the Proficiency of your pieces of gear/guns/skills that are "proficient"

long story short, using stuff give profieciency until lv 10, profiency is XP for expertise, you can upgrade anything that is proficiency lv10 with your expertise level

expertise lv 2 = upgrade a item twice

so people farm proficiency with different items to get more expertise so they can upgrade the stuff they really like a lot of times

that's the black tusk invasion that happens after you complete main campaign/reach level 30. weekly they invade a set of missions that you get an alternative version and then go an invaded stronghold, complete the stronghold you go to tidal basin

when you select a mission in the difficulty menu there should another button to alternate to the regular version if you want to play that one

You'll eventually get bored because you're running the same thing again and again but it's totally worth it.

Doing a CP over and over again has its way to be, a lot of people say "I just do public executions because they're faster" and you can try it and say practically the same, but you're wasting time running around or Resetting Control Points until you find one. CP's are always there, they almost don't change unless a patrol/resource convoy/elite patrol shows up

Rogues can show before or after you clear if you have bad luck, tho
