Single fire weapons fall into the Rifle category but you're asking for the impossible. You can have high damage, but not high damage with high armor and health.

You also aren't going to have a whole lot of health to begin with. All the sources for health attributes give pretty small amounts that amount to mostly being useless.
And armor doesn't last very long outside of cover when you have even just two or three NPCs targeting you. And if High damage is what you want, you likely won't have more than maybe one blue core attribute.
That amount makes zero difference.

At Lv. 40 you can expect to have something within the 700K-ish range, this is your base armor. This amount is abysmal for staying out in the open.
The most you can have is within the 1.8M-2M range, but that still only buys you like two or three extra seconds out of cover when multiple enemies are targeting you.
And if you do that, your damage will definitely be Godawful.

Core armor rolls really only have one purpose and it's to fuel the shield on tank builds. Trying to run the tank role with six blues while missing a shield is basically a death sentence.

the way that damage is at higher difficulties in the game right now, the best way to stay up isnt to have more armor, its to kill the enemies before they can kill you. if you really want to be "tanky" you can try running heartbreakers which gives you bonus armor as you build stacks or hunters fury which gives you health and armor on kill

the actual tank builds in the game are always very role specific and never meant for solo play

5-6 blues are present on some PvP builds that rely on weapon class damage bonuses/Spotter/Flatline, but these involve red pieces rerolled to blue cores, as Badger is the only blue core brand that offers a weapon class

What's used to gank people in the DZ or Conflict is very different from what works well in PvE modes

Yeah, in PvE, max armour is only marginally more useful than damage-focussed builds. It will never make you a true tank. And even if you do everything you can to max your HP and armour (with whatever healing methods, AoK, etc. you can think of), it's still pointless as a traditional "tanking" role because the game has no mechanism to actually hold aggro other than doing more damage. Unfortunately, as an armour-focussed build, you wouldn't do much of that, so your team mates will still get targeted.

countdown heroic is OK for gear mod, I got a bunch of max rolls from that due to the sheer amount of loot that you get. You get better rolls in the legendary but TTK is much lower unless you have a good team

Exactly, Countdown on Heroic is great for farming out Gear Mods precisely because of its speed and relatively high rolls.
There's really not that much of a difference between minimum rolls in Heroic v Legendary.

Overall: the trick is to get as much loot as possible, at the highest tier possible, as fast as possible.

I've used Eclipse with gunner in order to use the Banshee. The documentation of the skill said 12 seconds effect duration and it worked fine in Heroic. It's not the tech laser or the spec, per se, but it's the constant switching of weapons between ACS and Kingbreaker, including stack management that grinds my gears.

I'm a fairly lazy dude and I enjoy sticking to my CM1A laying siege into everything while my brain is shut off

If your weapon has a fast enough rate of fire the stacks build plenty fast.

I was using it on an LMG build without tech spec and it was building stacks plenty fast.

There's an Achilles Pulse from a manhunt mission which marks a target and gives them a 1-3 points on their body (6 if you have overcharge) that count as headshot damage. And -if- it pulses the head you get double headshot damage.

You can do the field research missions while you do NY, if I'm not mistaken.

You'll have access to the Specialization table there.

you can't do all the tasks (many of them are mission-specific to DC missions) but you can do some bits and gain spec points for the already-unlocked ones

also, after doing NY you'll have access to SHD and season levels, you may as well be getting some of those while you do all the other tasks

@lament mist the game is not only alive, but at least anecdotally I've seen a lot of low level players since S9 launched. It seems to me that many players are back after the hiatus. Which makes me think that the thirst for more div is real

Over a year? That's two seasons, S9 and S10. So you missed a manhunt (you can replay the prime target mission). Also, manhunt missions are a bit more fun this time, they focus on one district and the missions seem slightly more difficult. You also missed a couple nets and named and possibly an exotic I don't remember, but you can still get those I guess.

And there's a new game mode, Countdown, which is some sort of 8player mini raid in a new map where the secondary and main objectives change randomly (just like the summit), and there's always a hunter fight when you extract. And this game mode is mostly tuner for loot, it's a loot fest.

Also new is the expertise system, you can now get proficient at a piece/brand by using it or by donating material. Once you're proficient, you can upgrade a given item in your inventory (eg invrease the weapon damage of your famas). The extra bonus is not worth it maybe for weapons and some skills tho, and expertise is grindy, but you slowly build up your expertise level so that's fun

New builds are trying to be more like hybrids, devs are trying to introduce some freshness in the game even tho they're limited in resources

So new brand sets feel a bit different and new. That's fun
