PSA for Competitive Halo Players

We hear your frustrations, and I want to clarify how HCS regular and off-season tournaments are structured to avoid future confusion:

• FACEIT staff sets up and manages the backend (tournament pages, structure, etc.).
• Tournament admins, including myself as the Regional Game Lead Admin, take over operations only after the tournament link is sent to us right before the tournament goes live. Unlike community tournaments I’ve worked on (ForgeHub, Complexity, eUnited), I don’t create or set up HCS tournaments.

For context on recent issues:

• There were issues in previous 4v4 with teams missing players, and partial teams reserving spots, having an increase of AFKs and not allowing other teams to sign-up
• Off-season 4v4 tournaments are one-day events and open to all regions which causes limitations of operations
• Check-in ran from 10:45AM ET to 11:15AM ET Teams/players who don’t check in during this window are automatically removed to allow others to join last minute.
• The platform auto-removes teams that don't check in. Unfortunately, the platform does experience technical issues and bugs. The teams do their best to assess solutions once it is brought forward.
• Rosters and teams are locked 15 minutes before the tournament starts.
• Admins like myself have limited backend access (we can’t add/edit teams, resolve platform issues, or modify the bracket).

Please ensure to check the tournament page an hour before to see that your team is confirmed and checked-in for all events. If you have an issue, we suggest immediately tagging a FACEIT Admin on the FACEIT Discord for support.

We will work with the other ops teams involved to discuss this situation and assure this does not happen again. Which means check-in may be removed if teams were experiencing unwarranted kicks / not seeing the check-in button. We will make sure to find a better solution moving forward and will write on the overview page on future tournaments for any additional details I can provide to indicate any important notes and procedures.

Apologies for the inconvenience for today as we understand the frustration that this caused.

I was watching the aPG/Kuhlect streams yesterday and apparently his 2 accounts got banned, one in april and his main on dec 19th. After that apparently he started to play on one of his friends accounts and it got banned again a few days ago

The friend's gamertag is "r1tual" and if you look at the games history on leafapp they played ranked together in 2022 for like a day and then that account stayed inactive until a few days ago basically. aPG was in the same lobby and immediately realized it was a cheater and he replied in chat "you know me Brad" or something like that and aPG also received screenshots of dms that proves r1tual was in fact monster. It was a wild stream 🤣

that's from aPG stream, nothing is confirmed, it's basically Bound accusing him of cheating and Monster not doing a great job trying to reply

honestly from all the clips i've seen and even entire games from his pov, nothing suggests he's blatantly cheating. There's only one clip where he's playing on his friend account and he's staring at a wall and then hitting like 3 no scopes in row. But even that it's not blatant, it's not like he's tracking people through walls or there's an obvious aimbot. Also watching clips or even games taken from Infinite theatre is a bit sketchy because you can't hear comms, you can't see if someone is checking scoreboard, for example in that clip i mentioned it's pit flag i think, he's in sword with sniper standing still, looking at a wall and peeking only after someone has spawned tower. It's sus for sure but maybe he was looking at the scoreboard so he knew someone just spawn tower.

What's sus to me is more like the fact that he's not really doing much to defend himself and clear his name imo. Even in that tweet he wrote for example he doesn't mentions playing on his friend account or acknowledge the dms aPG showed on stream for everyone to see, so i feel there's a lack of transparency for sure.

So was this a HCS or all the orgs decision to split up all of the teams from last year line up, to keep things somewhat fresh? In the past there were only like a few team changes here and there not a fully brand new line up / team.

Like I enjoy seeing high level gameplay regardless of the org but it was getting a bit samey / stale seeing the same orgs / players nearly all the time.

yeah obviously Optic is a really really good team, Bound and Legend together are insane in this meta for the way they move on the map and how good they're, especially Legend, at staying alive in seemingly impossible situations. But with that said i think people are underestimanting SSG and also Shopify. SSG is getting Lucid, the season 1 mvp, they still have Stellur, the season 2 mvp, Eco that had an amazing season last year with the current meta and they're adding Snakebite a 2022 and 3 time world champion. If you also count Elamite they have more accolades than any other roster in Infinite. They're the real god squad imo, or just as much as Optic is.

That’s my point. Partnered teams seem to be co hosting and likely taking on the of the financial responsibilities of the Major and/or its planning. Optic has done it the past two years in Dallas. Same with SSG in SLC. Faze and Quadrant last year in Atlanta and London. That’s why it’s likely back to Dallas (Complexity is also there) and why I don’t see a Midwest or CA event. It’s also why, if Shopify becomes a partner, we might see Toronto again.

All the hype is with Optic this year but I don't think their team composition is as good as others

SSG, for example, has a better composition imo

It'll be really interesting to see how it pans out. My theory is that Optic has 3/4 of its players being all extremelyyyy similar in play-style and, because of this, will have a hard time with a handful of other rosters due to the lack of variety essentially.

I'm curious to see their team because Penguin is the only player in Infinite that never finished a lan event outside of top 3, Trippy i think didn't have a great season last year but he's a world champion, he won multiple events, he can be the igl now, i think he's going to be very motivated and i think he'll bounce back this year. Falcated is low key very good, i always thought he was but often he was not in the best position to prove it, this team is a great opportunity for him. Suppressed with Cykul and Last Shot one of the best up and coming young players.

It's obviously too soon to tell but yesterday in the off season tourney i think we already saw Optic having good chemistry, especially Formal and Renegade, something i wasn't able to see from Spacestation yet. But once again i was really impressed with Last Shot, he's so good right now it reminds me of season 1 Lucid for how consistently cracked he is. In general Shopify's teamwork seems to get better and better

also that grand final oddball game was crazy ||everything went wrong for Optic at the end. Formal played the ball from C balcony maybe he could've waited a bit but Royal 2 was flanking and Bound with camo didn't get the beatdown on Frosty, then Last Shot grabs and keeps ball just enough to go to ot getting the trade on Tusk too. i think the game needs innovation after 4 years, even if it doesn't work i'm glad they're still trying new things

like for real if it was me i'd have an experimental playlist to test game changes like different sandbox for maps, starting weapons/equipment, new or returning maps and modes

and then based on feedback they can be added to ranked/competitive

We'll see, but I doubt the vision it gives. For me, Halo is about going out to find your loot and fighting to get it on the map, not looting at the start of the match in menus (especially since you can see in the video that it gives a camo and a rocket as loot).

And defending a point for 1 minute feels long.

yeah obviously it's too soon to judge but i'm also worried about that, i'm not a fan of picking loadouts at the start, i think it's in Halo's dna to be on the same loadout and fight for power weapons and equipment on the map. Thing is that it might be difficult to balance, i think defending teams could have a big advantage potentially, i guess we'll see how it plays out with those rules. Still very curious to see

I’ve always said something has to be off with Suspector because he is sooo good and hasn’t gotten onto a legit team really. At least not stayed on it. This video is a little eye opening. these first few tournaments were just a taste of what is to come and i can't wait for lan. I expected Shopify to be good, i thought they could give Optic a run for their money and potentially beat them but what we've seen is they're the team to beat. They're just gross at the game, it felt like they were playing with Optic in grand finals.

when i saw the maps and modes i thought they could reset the bracket but i wasn't expecting them to be so dominant in both series

that koth game on Solitude was emblematic for me, they played time when up 2-1 with a minute left on the clock and Optic saved themselves at 0 seconds, but even with that plan failing and Optic already getting time on the next hill they were able to take control of it and win without much issues

For open bracket at LANs, (meaning those that didn't pre qualify for pools) seeding is determined by points, and subtly by region for the top 1 team per region

Hard to say they all have their small niche.
Best in a 1v1 could be any of them besides formal( he is good but the other 3 do things differently). Renegade plays cover and has very good right stick aim.
Bound is aggressive and mixes things up but also has good right stick aim.
Lqgend uses the map to his advantage. He hits curb slide shots all the time or uses more mechanics in his fight.
Id almost say lqgend is better in 1s but they are all good in their own way.
When it comes to down to it all 4 are arguably in the top 10. Longer range I'm giving it to formal.

I think we never had 2 teams battling it out like Shopify and Optic this year. Then again it's online so we need to see how it transfers over to lan but i don't think it will be much different. (even though Shopify is always playing on higher ping on average against Optic)

I think this qualifier not only cemented Shopify and Optic as the top 2 teams but also Faze and SSG as 3rd and 4th best teams. I feel the players on Faze are so naturally low profile so people tend to underestimate them, but if you look at their Halo Infinite stats they are all really really good and play very well together. I'm a bit disappointed in SSG (i'm pretty much rooting for all of these teams to do well) because i expected them to be closer to Optic and Shopify after almost 2 months of practice

Yeah pool A is pretty nutty too. I think that Luminisity team is going to do really good and that team is going to get poached more than likely. Even top 8 for those players would be huge. But in terms of performance, I think they'll show up. Im questioning TD more than anyone and I hope im wrong, but I think theyre going to under perform. Lethul is one my favorite players but theyve been struggling lately. C9 is the real deal though, but SR wont have any issues.

I can't see any of the teams travelling to an invitational LAN for less than a $5k guarantee, when Dreamhack top 4 gets them $12k

So it's 8 team pools, 6 team champ bracket.
48 team open bracket.
Top 2 from Arlington lock pools.
Top 1 from each of NA and EU qualifiers lock pools (2).
Top 1 from each of NA and EU points get pools (2).
Top 2 from open bracket get into pools.

Bottom 2 from pools are eliminated.

The open bracket will have some VERY good teams in it. For NA, looks like everyone outside of the Top4 will be an Open Bracket team. Only makes sense to have Friday dedicated to it and Saturday morning too before Pools start Saturday mid day.

The Kaysan event was great, year 4 of Halo Infinite is shaping up to be the best one yet. Optic and SR are so fun to watch. Gotta say i wasn't impressed from what we saw of the S&D game mode, i feel that in a mode like that movement needs to be tuned down as well as the time to kill. Also the power up for competitive i don't think it should be guns, just equipment

i feel that the mode should be more tactical but with pro players you see people g-sliding around getting easy kills with bulldog or whatever 🤣

Speaking of the grand finals controversy, it's the same thing that happens in the CDL and it's obviously unfair that Optic didn't get any advantage but i'm not a huge fan of the bracket reset as many people were asking. I think it punishes the team coming from losers way too much, especially if that team didn't lose to the team already in grand finals. Even for HCS i'd prefer a single best of 9 series with the advantage for the team that won winners finals being maps and modes vetoing and choosing on which side to start. Like for example in grand finals they didn't play oddball at all and Optic is arguably the best oddball team, if they could at least choose that it would've been more fair

Also the matchups, to avoid the team already in grand finals to wait for hours before playing again, should always be winners final, losers final and then grand finals

A grand finals reset is only fair to the team that hasn’t lost yet. It’s a double elimination bracket and they haven’t lost. The team from losers has, regardless of who they have lost to. I do agree that it is a little anticlimactic but it’s the only fair way to do a double elimination bracket.

It's how HCS typically does tournaments.

But there can be other ways.

The winners team should at least be given some advantage. If it's not the benefit of a bracket reset, it really should be something else.

But also, this was just a side tournament with a small ish amount of "free money" for those players.
