Honestly in Halo it is too specific. I used to be a big SC2 fan. All the best players in the world are Korean. Everyone was else was literally called a “foreigner” and it’s the same there. In general terms though if a user who went from one region to another, as in this example, Europe to the USA, its not incorrect to label him as an international player as he originally came from another national region.

It's just how labels work on a competitive basis when you have what is aptly called 'International talent' as HCS is, in general a North American exclusive series. Outside of World's yeah its fairly accurate to use the terminology present within HCS here.

If there was another series that was exclusively inter-European you could afford to say 'x team has picked up amazing talent from Z country, and is a widely recognised x country player'

Well between 2012 et 2016, 343 adopted a more worldwide stance. Links between communities, Grassroots from all over the world, good localisation of games, and translation of books. Acknowledgement of non-US communities (Halo Crea, Halo . fr, etc..) , invitiation to launch. And of course regional esport and big LAN in the world (2016 World Championship in Asia, Europe, Oceania and Latin America)

There was 2 Major in 2018 in London and 1 in Sydney too. But Halo 5 was in a bad place at the time, just like the community at large. 343 at already withdraw from the international communities

HCS is now in Year 3 and not much has changed at all.

In wrestling terms, HCS is like Undertaker and Stone Cold at the top and the rest of the roster is kane, xpac and billy gun. What is missing Cena, Rock and Goldberg to keep it varied and actually interesting.

Optic is too OP and no one can take em out early on.

SSG is good and the only top dog. The rest of the roster are mid card will never 3-0 Optic and take em out.

If other European players had won a Major before, then maybe it would make sense to define legend by country first.

Legend has done something so incredible that not only has no one in France done it before, no one in Europe has!
He has trailblazed for an entire continent,and I think most people would say that's a bit more epic than trailblazing for just one country.

My first game was Halo 4, and as I entered the menu, the music hit me like a truck. I love the campaigns of all Halos(excluding Halo 5), and the multiplayer as well. In my opinion, no Halo game is actually that bad, compared to other games in the genre, Halo is top tier quality.

Top 6 from Arlington get those seeds into London.

This leaves 6 more spots to fill, as 4 will come form the Open Bracket

NA and EU will have Online Qualifiers.
I imagine 4 total places will go to NA teams, and 2 more to EU.

For the Qualifiers, I expect top 2 teams in NA to get pool spots, and then the next 2 highest in HCS points.
(Or maybe they do top 3 from Quals + one on points)
Then it'll just be winner of EU qualifier, and then the next top EU team in points.

Finally, the NEXT top 1 NA team, and EU team will also get Open Bracket Travel Coverage, and the winner of the Open Champs for each of ANZ and MX will also get Open Travel Coverage.

Assuming no teams make changes to rosters (they will, but assumer they don't)

Foe is already in for EU, so that leaves Quadrant to likely win the next EU Qualifier, and more than likely MagsUp being the runner up in HCS points - both getting into pools.
The EU team that might win the Open bracket travel coverage based on next in points is still up in the air.
Depends how the teams do, as several are close together.
Could be Mama Mia or Anita Max Wynn (or someone else maybe if they do well in the 3 onlines).

MX and ANZ:

Lore did amazing for MX, making it into Pools this tournament, but failing to secure top 6.

They are still the best MX team in my opinion, and likely will win their Open Championship to have travel coverage to London.
I hope a couple of the other teams fly over too.

T1/Fury seemed unprepared to me. They aren't a sure thing to win their next Open Championship for travel to London. Mindfreak might beat them.

From Legend being the first european player to win a major, technically it was the first major for Bound too. The 50-50 slayer in winners final, then the double ot in Pit ctf, Formal and Lucid dropping 40 and 50+ kills, then SSG winning the plaza strongholds 250 to 3, it was a wild series and a wild tournament really. Didn't expect Sentinels to perform so poorly, Faze losing 6 game in row to Optic in that fashion and it's only the first tournament of the year lol

You're right individuals make the game more exciting. If it wasn't for the skill of the top players People wouldn't watch at all... but I'm on about growth of the sport from the bottom up to make more established teams and a larger fan base.

Although @rigid tangle says it was packed on the Saturday so maybe I have a misconception.

I think there's a lot more going on under the hood which regular casuals like myself don't see from online... which is why I was asking in the first place.

It will be interesting to see how HCS evolves over the next few years.

Only a few organizations have really been successful in creating that fan culture that sticks with the team, in the modern Halo era.

I would argue it's really just Optic and SSG.
To a smaller degree Faze, Quadrant, Native, Complexity and Shopify. These teams tend to have some fans that stick around no matter the players.

Sentinels has fans of the org, but not the Halo team.
The Sen Halo fans are fans of those players in particular.
Same for C9.

Str8 Rippin thinking about fielding a team is good news.

I think it will lead HCS/343 having less influence opening the gate for some association to take the reigns. After all this season we are already seeing the orgs taking on the role of the hosts for each tournament.

Maybe in the next Halo a new MLG will be born with Competitive Halo. I think we need to look at what the current communities are doing to predict the future.

HCS has run 'well' for H5 and Infinite.

In fact, across the industry, a lot of people that run tournaments and leagues have praised HCS for how it's done it's Infinite program.
I imagine 343 sees that value and would want to continue into the next game.

In order to be in the highest of ranks, you do need a lot of knowledge.
The opposite is not necessarily true.
High level of skill is NOT required to have a high level of knowledge.

Just look at many many coaches in all the established sports in the world.
Most of them have way more knowledge than the pro players they are coaching, yet likely couldn't perform at the level of those players.

I was able to watch some of it online.

-Granting access to LVT again to run their thing was great. I'd love to see them get a little more support on the full production capabilities.
Things like being able to have better observer status in matches in Open Bracket or the Side tournaments.
Being able to actually broadcast the qualifying matches for Pools LIVE (rather than replay) would be AWESOME.
Also, while showing the side tournaments live online might be tough - perhaps some of the 'we'll be right back' time in the main broadcast could actually be used to replay some of the Champs of those side tournaments.

-Having all Pool Play matches broadcasted was really good.
This wasn't the case for ALL of last year (but it was for some) so I'm happy to see it continued happening this year.

-Start.gg seemed like a GREAT platform to follow the Open Bracket from home. It seemed like it was actually being updated regularly and timely.

-The broadcast Talent did a phenomenal job. 10/10 would recommend having them all back again.

-If there's a lot of great community stuff going on in the crowd, showcase that more on the broadcast.
Have some cameras going around the venue, do more 'side' interviews.
Showcase just a bit more of a 'taste' of what it's like to be AT the event - enhances the broadcast, and might convince even more people to buy tickets to the next one!.

-I enjoyed some of the featured videos, replays and other stuff being played between matches, but boy do I miss the SSG content.

343 needs to do something about boosters and Onyx 1700 queueing with D1 players to boost them. I should not be Diamond 2/3 and matching with them in my game. The MMR system is trash. 343 needs to make it where only you can queue with the same rank and Ranked Arena forces game chat. Don't say it's not possible cause OG MW2 SND forced you to be in game chat

You need to take Solitude out of the map pool until spawns get reworked or just bring back the OG Plaza from Halo 5. The map was made in forge and it is evident after running to light rifle from courtyard and bouncing in the floor and falling through the floor continuously.

Cutting through the ranting, you've made some good points.

First of all, 343 does care about is community, and they do listen.
What they struggle with is communication back to the players, evidenced by your feelings here.

Ok.
343 actually has done work to address onyx matchmaking. They introduced 2 things: A car gap maximum for people you can search with, and a cap at 1600 where above that you can only be in a party of 2 maximum.

They did that to address uneven matches in CSR, as well as avoid 4 stacks just rolling over Onyx lobbies.

Lots of people are vocal about eliminating those restrictions.
The fact that 343 hasn't eliminated them shows that they see the value in the system, are listening to more than just the noisy twitter fans, and care about the matchmaking experience.

Forcing game chat won't solve anything.
People would just use Discord voice chat outside the game if the Xbox live parties voice stopped working.

They need to upgrade the tick rate for the server. 20 or whatever we are playing on is terrible. Ghost shots, ghost melees. The heavy aim is now a thing since the network update and I have to speed up my aim now and it's terrible
