Campaign was built using an updates Saber 3D engine (or something along those lines, need to look it up again)

Multiplayer was build using an offshoot of halo 4's engine called Groundhog, with a lot of tuning done to emulate the feel of Halo 2.

Also allowed a lot of the Directors Cut items that Max Hoberman wasn't able to get done in the original version (Gungoose, waterfall switch, etc)

This probably wasn’t canon considering you literally teleport after picking up this skull, and spawn with only a plasma pistol, and if you try to leave the area you’re always teleported back with a single fully loaded plasma pistol

In the original halo 2 the skull would only activate after beating these seven waves of elites. In MCC they give you an achievement just for picking up the skull but in the original game you had to kill all the elites first.

In seriousness, the Extended versions of the LOTR trilogy enhances it significantly: for a lot of parts, it's like adding color to an outline so then you can think "ah ok I get the full picture now". Unlike other extended editions, the LOTR Extended versions are not Main Film + Fluff, they are more like the Full Version where parts simply had to be amputated to fit into the runtime. So it's a quality experience through and through: a real "definitive" version, if you will. I honestly believe that if you gave the Extended trilogy a fair shot, you'd enjoy it.
