Unfortunately, the 2 most recent Halo campaigns (Halo 5: Guardians, Halo Infinite) do not support couch co-op campaign. However, all the preceding Halo campaigns do, and they'd be a lot of fun for you and your grandson to play together. That is such an outstanding and cool thing to do: going through a campaign journey together with your grandson. What an experience for him!

And meant that if your team was completely useless you weren't just a sitting duck carrying the flag

honestly I feel for ctf play, no flagnum is better because it encourages teamwork and it punishes bad team play, whereas with flagnum you're pretty much john wick whilst being able to move the flag

it's more frustrating with bad teammates but it's a team game and one person shouldn't be able to carry that easily

also not to mention, halo's modes are built off of disadvantages, in oddball you can't shoot whilst holding the ball so you're one teammate down in a sense, with flag you are more open and can't fight back and koth you have to sit in one spot, people hate extraction because the defending team has no disadvantages and the same applies to flagnum to a smaller extent

To spice things up, you always fight 2 different factions in a Halo campaign
Covenant and either the Flood or Prometheans

Reach is not the case
In Reach you exclusively fight Covenant

i feel it helps the story of reach feel more focused and it makes the covenant seem like a bigger threat, in the original trilogy the covenant do feel a little weak in comparison to the flood, so i think reach just making the covenant this scary unstoppable force works really well

true, even if they didn't have a real second enemy faction, having encounters with wildlife throughout the campaign would've kept it fresh, and it could've played well into the story as later in the game you could encounter less wildlife as reach essentially dies off

one thing i miss about the CE vibe is just how ominous it is, the forerunner structures are very foggy and have this brooding ambience to them that I really don't feel translated well into the rest of the original trilogy, halo 4 surprisingly to me has creepy moments but it's sorta offset by the neon techy promethean aesthetic

it's the simplistic graphics of CE that just make your imagination do a lot of the work whereas as graphical fidelity got better, things became more subtle and the overall presentation wasn't as foreboading as CE makes the forerunner structures
