That's not even how comissioning works. Print quantity likely wasn't even a factor. Independent artists are usually commissioned in an up front lump sum to produce an image. Once the image is in the hands of the person who comissioned it, printing and distribution is out of their hair.

If Microsoft wanted to they could spin up the printers and start pumping these out to every wal-mart poster bin without having to compensate the artist further.

This like...isn't anything new you know. I know an artist who's done cover art for albums. They don't get royalties based on product quantity sold.

The artist gets an up front lump sum and the pic is for the commissioner to do with as they please. The artist did not make those 10 prints. Microsoft did.

And regardless of legality, it is morally and ethically wrong for one of the largest companies in the world to flippantly allow and use community artwork in this stolen fashion.

Like there's a reason that despite licensure claims to the IP, that Microsoft isn't selling prints of every image in Halo spotlight galleries and that reason is that doing so would be comically evil for a company to appropriate its community like that.

IDK how fast that asteroid was going actually. Might not have been that fast. Also that was an Imperial II Star Destroyer, not an Imperial I. You can also forget ramming as the shields were enough to withstand a collision with a GR-75 medium transport with no damage to the hull. If anything getting closer to the Star Destroyer would be a detriment considering it's vast armanant.
