Thats exactly what happened with Gamma Halo. It was discovered by accident by survivors fleeing...Meridian I think?
One of the glassed colonies. They excuted a blind jump per Cole Protocol and ended up in the system with Instillation 03.

Basically the answer is more or less the same; soon as reports of its position come in, they scramble avalible forces and lock down the important sights; Library, pulse generators, defensive systems, Flood research facilities.
Then they hold them while UNSC science teams and ONI groups begin clearing and further securing the ring.

Normal day for a lot us. 343 and Microsoft couldn't care less if you're outside of the USA. Most game companies are like this honestly. Gears of War, R6, Apex all of them. You end up just playing for whatever at the end of the day. My ping is 10-15 but to connect to a game these days is 100-150.

Ping comes from the days of sonar IIRC, you would send out an audible Ping and listen for it to come back. Depending on how long it took, that's how far away your target was.
Now we send network packets to a destination and see how long they take to get back

the higher your ping is in game, the longer it takes for your local game instance to confirm with the server that something you did was valid.
If you shoot an enemy, you pull a trigger, your game sends a request to shoot a bullet, the packets have to travel to the server, the server checks to see if you are allowed to shoot, what type of weapon, where you are located, where you are aiming, and then fires the bullet. Then the server sends you a confirmation that "yep you shot right here" and you have to wait for that to return.
Instead of waiting and doing nothing while all that is going on, your local game just "pretends" it shot where you looked like you were aiming, playing the animations, sounds, effects

If your ping is low, there usually is not a disagreement between the server and your local game about what ACTUALLY happened, so the game feels smooth

#

with a high ping you might be in a different place according to the server, or aiming somewhere else, or your enemy was somewhere else, or you didn't have enough ammo, etc

HOW you implement predictive client side actions and how you correct disagreements is another matter. 120ms is pretty high, and will have frequent corrections on even the best prediction system

i feel like they just wasted a ton of time trying to build into Blam large scale map/level design for the open world campaign and some battle royale like mode for MP.

The open world campaign is just not really adding that much, while obviously we never saw a large scale MP mode if that was planned

if they just stuck to improving Halo 5's engine and tools, I think they probably would have hit the release date

when you look at the campaign's open world, it doesn't even look like they achieved whatever they were going for. The level of detail drops off and everything in the distance looks barren, even on the highest PC settings.

maybe they had bigger changes to the engine in the works that would have addressed that, but honestly if you're overhauling the engine which is going to take a lot of time, why not limit the scope of the first project with the new engine to what you already know it's capable of?

pretty much makes or breaks matches at diamond level. The number of times you'll push one side of Pit and your team mate pulls the flag into where the enemies you killed are spawning 🤦‍♀️

my problem with Pit/Empyrean is that even if I try and go where teammates are, and enemies shouldn't spawn, I just get melted, and especially with randos, some will just run past the flag for no reason

Topic: HALO 1 Remake
I love the halo franchise, the original trilogy, Halo 3 ODST, Halo reach, halo 4 and infinite are my favorites and 5 had good MP and Forge
Halo Infinite felt to me like it rejuvenated the Franchise (for like however long it did for) it played like a halo game and felt like a halo game, and that made me happy :), but the fact halo infinite kinda flopped made me disappointed and sad it didn't succeed, i can genuinely remember halo infinite being the last halo game i was really excited for, and it feels like going forward Halo will have a harder time at succeeding

Which is why i am Hesitant towards the Halo Trilogy Remakes, i Certainly believe that they would be great if done right, And my idea of a Fun Halo 1 Remake would be a SPV3 like Halo 1 remake, now ofc people have different ideas of what a fun game should be and how to remake a game, what i am expecting 343 to do if they make Hit the nail on the H1 remake is a Halo reach style game, but i am Hesitant to the Future of Halo, but certainly if 343 Listens to it's community and actually continues using the Classic style Artstyle, and Gameplay albeit with a twist (think Halo infinite) Halo will succeed in my opinion, (It's certainly what i want), As for the Halo 2 Remake, i have no idea about that- anyone wanna talk about this topic?

you ever play the First decendant or games like destiny 2 or Warframe? I think halo deserves a new story with a Third Person game, no Lootershooting tho, it's a classic style halo game just in third person, You play as multiple types of Spartans, a Slim fast spartan, a Heavy Spartan in extra bulky armor, and a All rounds spartan in their normal armor, with defensive and offensive stuff in an Open world, i think it would do well as a Spinoff title, not necessarily a mainline game, or even a Third person ODST or Marine game

If it's by the pylon near the forklift then there's some rockets near the same spawn as in the Multi-player map powerhouse. Sniper/DMR combo is the key so that you can save rocket ammo. Or just skip it completely with the Forklift skip.

I like having a lot of options for customization from the jump. I have the same problem with Halo infinite, where items will be pay walled, or vaulted or whatever. I like the incentive of playing to unlock things, but sometimes it's just tedious and not really rewarding

Those are some rosy goggles you got there - online games kicked to menu very often, coop games crashed semi-regularly, and the net code was absolute dookie. Do you just, like, not remember randomly whiffing some dude at point blank? Or being stuck in static purgatory where you've been disconnected but not kicked? Halo is still shipping MILLIONS of units - infinite's campaign was last reported to have shipped over 8 mill, same as halo 2. People grow up and find new games and new lives; that's why most have left. People love to say they're leaving the franchise - it happened with halo 2 and the arbiter, halo 3 and the story, odst and the length, reach and the bloom. Sure the hype isn't where it was, and player counts don't stay consistent, but there was LITERALLY NOTHING BETTER THAN HALO when it released, and there's other incredible games to occupy people now.

really weird thing just happened. invited a friend into a lobby. they joined. I searched for a match. match started but my friend was nowhere to be seen. apparently he was still in the menu somehow?? and apparently with me too. when I got out of the game it I was in the same lobby with him again like nothing happened

Glad it's not just me at least. Especially when playing with a party bigger than 1 some people will be put in the game, others get an error message "Unable to join" en are left in the menu 'Waiting to join', which then never works.

i get that sometimes in cgb sometimes. I hear disabling unused wifi adapters can help. I use ethernet now and disable wifi adapter on my pc. It's a weird error with a weird workaround i have no idea how it becomes an error lol

I'll try that next time, but I have a feeling it's something on the game / server side. My brother mentioned he was playing in a party of 5 for a while and they didn't manage to get a single game with all 5 of them loaded in. Every time a few of them got left behind in the lobby.

yea i get that. most every time, if i have a lobby and i try to join me and the lobby to another hosted match, we get the unable to join. and even the lobby we try to join crashes. u can tell bc when you go back to cgb screens, the player count drops and then the match vanishes.
