Totally agree. One of the best parts about Hades is the process of learning the game and exploring all the options, and the surprising amount of content that it provides. I have stopped myself from looking up guides and watching videos to keep that sense of awe that comes with playing the game

Have you leveled up the aspect at all? Chiron is a bit weak at first, even if still very useable.
It's also a great weapon to go for Privileged Status with, as you can get an easy curse on both attack and special.

I only have the base level for it. I tried stacking doom with my special, but I think I was missing a boon or two to make it really work well

It doesn't work that well even when it works at its best.
The most effective builds are Low Tolerance with Heartbreak Strike and Drunken Flourish as well as Heart Rend with Heartbreak Strike and Deadly Flourish. In both cases, you need Heartbreak Strike, so it's a good idea to start with her keepsake and then get whichever out of Drunken Flourish and Deadly Flourish you see first.

I like to start off with chaos egg. Get as many good Chaos buffs as possible on the 1st stage. Then take the coin purse or a god keepsake if you really want to see that god. Then take the Charon keepsake. It really helps getting through Elysium and styx since you can purchase items before swapping it out when you transfer from elysium to styx. Then before going into styx choose the acorn or some other survival item.
Or you could do hairpine or plum (+dmg or +dodge) and just keep that rollin the entire run.

I mean no condescension, but to put it in a sentence: if you have to ask this question divine dash is almost always the right answer. Sometimes the other slots can be the right play, but 90% of the time Athena dash is the optimal play, or at least a correct one. For this channel I would say that number increase to 99%. Athena dash is just that great, especially when you’re newer!

There is absolutely no difference between the switch and PC versions of software, and if you can make the endboss fight with any consistency keep your chin up. If you can get to the end boss regularly, you have it within you to beat him

The best aspects for casts are Poseidon (sword), Achilles (spear), hidden shield, Hera (bow), and Talos (fists).
Poseidon increases your overall cast damage and has your special pop out any casts stuck in enemies (great with infernal soul).
Achillies increases the damage of your next four attacks/casts after your special rush.
Hidden shield ||loads your casts into your bull rush which pop out in an aoe attack upon a hit||.
Hera loads your casts into your attack, acting as a large burst hit.
Talos increases attack/cast damage on enemies marked by your special.

If you don't have any of them unlocked, any normal zag weapon will work well enough. Just keep in mind how your cast of choice works with your weapon (so, Aphrodite cast's short range wouldn't be good on the bow or rail).

Getting the important part of posiedon takes only 1 level
The extra cast damage it delivers is great, but the star of the show is really being able to retrieve back your stones on demand. That alone will buy you a huge bonus to overall cast damage output, and you get that feature with a single level of investment

Like “casts” as a whole don’t become a good source of damage until you’re at least halfway into your mirror

Zag aspects are usually good starts because they only cost 5 blood to max out, next to 15 or 16 for the others,, but some aspects are better as value picks for single-level investments than others

It’s up to you. I commend you for following dark thirst. That’s the way to be. If you find yourself struggling to move forward, I would advise committing yourself to your favorite weapon for a while as a mechanics and confidence builder, then return to chasing dark thirst around to diversify yourself
if you like fists perchance Talos is also another great 1-blood investment
