This. There was a moment in asphodel shop where I passed it but went back and thought I was standing at the point but I was actually in the lava and it took about a second to adjust. Styx wasn’t really out of the way as it was just on the bridge between the shop and the tunnels, but stopping probably did eat another third of a second. I def woulda broke my record if I ignored both of them.

Or, alternatively, if I took fists that particular run. Holy crap, Merciful End WITH Divine Dash IN TARTARUS? I should have quit and immediately switched to fists. But I didn’t want to play the RNG game because I knew the routing would potentially be very different, even though it was only a couple of chambers. I could have theoretically used the seed and restarted until I got the same boon result with the fists, but I was vibing too hard to do all that.

Routing on console is a whole different ballgame. No mods means you have no idea what the seed has to offer and you have to map it yourself. It also means it counts as a legitimate run, since there’s no Google doc telling you to cast twice or break 3 pots

Routed runs aren't illegitimate, they simply go into the seeded category on leaderboards. And a run like that would not be valid for unseeded no matter what platform you're on, so it would be considered seeded.

You could just do what routers did before they had the mods to assist them and just do trial and error to create a doc yourself.

I also had the option of getting an heroic Zeus special but I picked the epic attack over that

(8) fill all remaining slots with common,
(9) fill all remaining slots with whatever is available.

If the game always tries to give you core boons, but there's only one core boon slot open, then only one of the three choices could be a core and the other two would be open to be anything else

It pretty much means that filling up your core boons improves your chances to get a Duo and having multiple Duos open lowers the chance of seeing the one that you actually want

And taking Status Curses also improves your odds since those have 50% chance to get offered

If you see speedrunners try to go for Merciful End or Mirage shot they'll almost always fill their core slots if it doesnt open up extra duos

Which is why you hear of things like Athena and Demeter being good gods for Mirage Shot Beowulf

And Zeus being good for Mericful End builds etc

For example, lambent plume is pretty much useless except when you don’t need any more god boons, or gold, or use well items, so take it into asphodel in a speedrun to shoot for early rush delivery. Then it’s actually very good. But that doesn’t come up very often

Hm, I think the only advice I can give is that you could „specialize“ your boons on attack. So basically whenever you get a boon try to look for one that stacks on to your attack, so try not to necessarily get a boon for everything but rather just one part of the weapon. So either special, attack, or cast for example.

But idk if that would change much for you or if you haven‘t tried it already

But back to aggressive gameplay, that can work well on some weapons, i feel like the fists work especially, but also that can work out well after learning the timing of the dashed correctly. As MiKE wrote earlier: Speedrunners play very aggressively but know how to time their dashes correctly. I feel like I have learned a lot from watching them, so I agree and recommend watching them too.

Also you could try asking for specific builds for new weapons you try to learn in the „builds“ chat.

Somehow it got to a point where i was fighting the bone hydra and i just melted through its health bar when i could actually shoot it

Well there is no such thing as max heat gameplay since that's not really possible atm, it has only been done routed and it's way different than say 50 heat, high heat requires you to play pretty well overall and have clean boss fights and efficient room clearing etc so it can definitely help you figure out some mistakes
