If something's taking unnaturally long, you could report a bug with F10 or ask for help in #h1-tech-support. There have been bugs preventing the unlocking of hearts before. Though they've all been fixed so far.

The dialogue trees can also be quite complex and full requirements to get a certain dialogue might not be listed on the wiki or wherever. So long as you keep talking to everyone with a ! and gift Nectar and Ambrosia when you can, you should be making progress.

this is a symptom of how the dialogue system works. the game only checks that you've met x requirement for dialogue, and then that dialogue is entered into a pool of possible text that can come up when you speak with an npc. so in this case, hades remarking on the pact requires you unlock it, so once you meet that condition, that dialogue can come up at any time, it just does not necessarily come up immediately after unlocking it. this is why some dialogue seems to appear much later than you expect

you need to talk to him with the rail so that he acknowledges that you have it, but don't need it for the awakening phrase. It's 2 separate conversations, and his attack boon is one of the best ones for rail so it works out anyway

if you don't like regular rail, upgrade Hestia a little and try that, think of it as a single-shot cannon

dont trust the elite sign either, there's a chance you'll get the sack from that room

yeah the rng is not whether or not it appears; it always appears (if you don't die before you get to it). it will appear anywhere from the 2nd to the 5th tunnel you try

you will be required to interact with it in order to continue the game, like Tsura said you'll know it when you see it

once you get it, trying other tunnels will not get you a fountain, and is generally not the best if you are just worried about surviving because the fountain is the strongest source of healing you get in Styx

so if surviving is the goal you might want to avoid chipping away at health by trying other tunnels after you get the fountain

you can fight Charon afterwards as an optional boss once you beat Hades once
