I'd pick clean kill here, but I'm a lot less confident. a factor to consider is that if you don't have any cast boons, any boons you get will probably try to give you a cast, so if you're looking for a specific boon in the future then true shot would be better.

Always Heart Rend on Nemesis. If it's ever between Heart Rend and something else on Nemesis, the right choice is Heart Rend.

That's 1k hours of experience in the game and even more than that studying and pushing the meta talking.

Nemesis has a 30% crit chance naturally.

Heart Rend is the most powerful crit boon.

There are two meta builds for Nemesis: Heart Rend and Merciful End.

If you're going for Merciful End, Heart Rend shouldn't even show up.

So there's no choice between Heart Rend and something else.

If Heart Rend shows up as an option, it means you have at least one out of Attack, Special, Cast, or Dash from Lady Aphrodite to reliably apply Weak to proc Heart Rend.

And it only shows up from Lady Aphrodite and Lady Artemis. There aren't any boons you'd rather want from them if Heart Rend is available.

The only possible exception in rare circumstances might be Smoldering Air, but most of the time Heart Rend is superior for DPS, which is ultimately also survivability because the fewer hits you need to kill enemies, the less you need to deal with their attacks.

Ideally you can burst through any armor in a couple Dash-Strikes and then just keep everything stunned, so you won't get hit.

Does Life Affirmation from Aphrodite affect darkness pickups if you have that effect from the Mirror?

Not 100% sure, but I think they do? Although, when you're only gaining +5HP, the increase of even purple or red life affirmation caps at a whopping count of additional +2HP I think. Like, I said, I may be wrong about everything I just said lol. But I could've sworn I've seen a +6 or +7 HP message pop up whenever I've had life affirmation and I pick up darkness. But maybe my memory is making the whole thing up, I dunno.

Does anyone know if his exact (or even approximate) health has ever been calculated? I mean just his base health for both his lives combined; so no calisthenics program (so, by extension, not in Hell Mode) and no extreme measures 4 to give him a third life or anything else that might affect it like that.

I'm guessing somewhere in the... umm ... 15,000 area?

'Twas a lot more noticeable when Dark Foresight wasn't working yet because Darkness chambers actually still existed then, and you'd pick them occasionally to get some max HP since Centaur Hearts were so rare.

one of the easiest, luckiest builds I've ever had was with Poseidon sword, somehow I ended up with 5 cast stones and just about every cast-centric boon you can think of, plus I think it was two purple chaos boons that boosted cast dmg. I just held down the cast button and arrows were flying everywhere (I had support Fire and the duo that fires a third projectile) and the one where they return to you automatically, it was nuts

Most of this stuff in the game is pretty open to observation. There's a scripts folder which contains LUA scripts that determine enemy health, difficulty, and a lot more

pretty much everything in the game. Only a few things are limited to the engine

getting sent back to the house is a core part of the game so there's no way to avoid that

there's no way to die and continue your run beyond using up your death defiances

god mode in this game doesn't mean you are invincible, it gives you the deus ex machina buff, which is largely a call back to the phrase's origin. the buff is a convenient thing zag is given to aid his journey
