You need to meet the pre-reqs to even see them, and then there’s a number of things you can do to increase your odds

first thing is making sure your core boons (strike, special, cast, dash) are all filled, because as long as any of those are empty, the game will keep one boon option to make it be one of the above

which takes away an option on every boon that could be a duo/legendary

with the same reasoning, the boons that give status curses to the gods that don’t have a status curse innately (hunter’s mark for artemis, jolted for zeus, razor shoals for poseidon) also take a priority slot 50% of the time if you don’t pick them up

so that’s about as far as you can go in making sure all 3 options can be eligible to roll a duo/legendary

Then temporary items that boost rarity odds (yarn of ariadne, refreshing nectar from eurydice) as long as Chaos Favour boons secretly give you an additive +10% duo/legendary odds to the base 12% or 10% (this is per option)

Also has to be a weapon you have claimed your bounties with already (or play at low heat) so bosses drop darkness

Dark thirst is usually not that great, +20% is not much

Worse if is on a weapon you aren't fast/good at

The main drawback to this is that it very much wants long knuckle to work. And even when it works, even ignoring the gameplay-issues the poseidon attack can cause, sea storm poseidon attack often ends up being not much better than a regular zeus attack, while being significantly needier (since you need one extra duoboon to catch up to the setback you created yourself by taking poseidon attack in the first place).

I'm watching someone playing hades for the first time but he's using a mouse and keyboard.... playing like that feels like it would be very different than with a controller.

Anyone play with both controller and mouse? Do you prefer one or the other? Why?

For context, I played only with nintendo switch controller, so it's hard for me to imagine mouse and keyboard style.

kbm gives you freedom over your aim and precision in movement, whereas controller gives you freedom over your movement but restricts your ability to aim in some situations. theoretically optimal to play controller + mouse but in practice barely anyone plays like this because it's hard to learn and not very transferrable to most other games which don't allow this at all.

I personally use kbm, but still have a controller connected because it gets to pause at some times kbm does not.

In order
Family Favourites > Priv Status unless it’s like Crush Burst Hera or a hangover build. That’s easily 25% permanent additive without having to do anything special or go out of your way to try and force priv status to work on an enemy, and priv status doesn’t even start working until you get those 2 buffs down so your first few hits on other builds don’t get the value

which are the most important option

Dark foresight is easily miles more valuable than it’s counterpart to the point where I don’t remember the counterparts name. It gives you 7 more gold laurels over the course of your run, which means you get 7 more boons/hearts/obols/poms instead of blue laurel rewards (darkness/gems/nectar/keys)

god’s pride is going to make all the boons you pick up in a run that much better, particularly more on the hermes and chaos side where they have reduced rare/epic odds. Most of the time you will hit your duos if you’re implementing the right building strats, so the bonus epic chance means your builds are going to be stronger before and after they hit a duo (if a duo even matters for the build), rather than having a weaker build that hits it’s duo more consistently

which means, from my pov as a speedrunner and from playing highheat, you’re already going to be doing tons of runs. This guarantees that when you have a good run, it’s going to be that much better, compared to just hitting a decent build with a heap of low rarity boons

assuming you took about 45 minutes per clear, yeah that's fine. the winstreak statistic is a bit inconsequential though, after the first win they usually start snowballing.

Also, I'm ngl, there is little point in comparing player performance at Hades of all things, especially when not playing competitively (a lot of it comes down to how fast the player stumbles across a build, and how used to playing videogames in this genre they are). Not everyone has the same skills going into the game; talent or lack thereof tends to even out with more playtime, from what I have seen.

As for me (though I'm sure there are other good examples out there one could pick), I have atrocious hand-eye coordination (which makes muscle memory harder to build up) and below average reaction-time, but that hasn't stopped me from setting a few relevant world records (or tied world records), and world's firsts/seconds/thirds. There are people with better innate capabilities who are objectively less good at the game because they actually have a life uh, I mean, have spent less time playing (and learning the inner workings of) Hades.

Non-destructive: keep doing runs for fun, darkness will accumulate as you play. Optimally play at heat-levels you've already beaten, to get the boss darkness (and optimally with sisyphus companion if you have it, and start poseidon to eventually get his two resource-related boons).

I can assure you your keys were in fact not spent. The game only saves whenever an autosave happens, that is to say either after a death, after unloading a room, or in a run picking up a room reward.

If you didn't trigger an autosave, it's normal that your progress did not save.

for +150 damage

I have double edge as well so my dash-strikes were hitting twice and I had +3 dashes so I could really maximise the amount of dash-strikes I could do

Luci (the hidden rail) has triple bomb for very consistent massive special damage nukes (as opposed to the stronger but way less consistent clockets combo on the regular rails)

Hestia is more of a safe-heat rail than speed so I use it less

aphrodite, then athena/demeter, then poseidon, then artemis

See like the expected value doesn’t really work the same when it usually (for the weapons that want to be running additive damage) ends up with you either oneshotting an enemie 15% of the time or taking extra shots otherwise

You don’t take enough shots on enemies other than minibosses and bosses to just say “expected value” and call it a day really, you need outside additive to make artemis really worth it

beo mainly takes artemis to really boost it’s casts more than any concern about it’s strike

She’s like best in slot on beo strike, true, but that’s still 80% from opening mirage shot and 20% being due to the innate additive beowulf has

This is actually why she’s like one of two real options for chiron special

aside from dionysus, the sheer amount of hits a single special does means you’re looking way closer to expected value

if you got your first clear, youre most likely closer to credits than the start of the game

ALSO some aspects and strategies are significantly more popular among casual players than others, and not always are these preferred aspects stronger; in fact, it's often the opposite because the simpler (and hence easier to learn) aspects were often nerfed during development to have lesser power too. Using what many regular players used for their clears can thus be misleading.
