hey ive been slowly chipping away at the heat bounties (on shield for now, just finished 19) and im curious how I can progress more in the story / prophecies / achievements in the meantime? I used up all of skelly's dialogue and don't know what the next step is (same with meg), I haven't figured out how to get any of the secret aspects, I don't have any of the big locked things under the keepsakes and I'm not entirely sure how to progress in getting "closer" with olympus

well its not much of a spoiler but ill spoiler tag it anyway ||essentially being a spawn of hades and tied to the underworld there is essentially a "spell" keeping them tied to the underworld and they will die if they remain on the surface, pretty dumbed down explanation but you get the idea||

knockback lightning is great for fists, especially with talos aspect when you just keep pulling and slamming, idk whats happening with it on special but tbh you dont even really want to use special on bow(obv do for that one aspect tho)unless youre trying to force duo boons or lock it out for other options from other gods, id figure maybe not if you dont see any knockback because normally its pretty clear if they get knocked back or not

just finished all 20 bounties for shield on zeus! i was doing mainly zeus boons (zeus special w/ jolted) and any attack status that was convenient for the 40% it was pretty fun (and maybe easiest heat grind since shield kinda blocks most damage?) im curious what weapon and aspect u guys recommend I grind out the bounties for next and what build/s i should use? id like to do something not too difficult since im so accustomed to shield 😭

i fw fists, demeter is best aspect i think, but i like talos and gilgamesh a lot, knockback builds work really well and wave pounding i think is what its called makes them at least alright against bosses, especially with rupture which im pretty sure is a very similar effect to jolted

next favorite is probably rama bc i like the special effect of it, i think its neat

pretty much just dash strike a lot and special/dash upper for the effect of the aspect youre using, for gilgamesh and talos start the combo with it then spam dash strikes bc 25% and 50% damage increase obv better at start of combo than at end, and i dont use demeter(will start soon fs tho) but id guess it depends on how close you are to having the effect

also that hammer that turns the special into a kick isnt a fantastic hammer but it feels really fun to use, so if youre more worried about fun than how good it is, id try it at least once

Rotation on all non-gilgamesh fists is hold down attack, dashstrike or dash after 4 hits to reset the attack-cycle (one can also dash-upper the enemy if that would kill said enemy. Talos' slow special is instead better used right before a dash, and interrupted by dashing to apply the magnet effect without committing to a full talos special (ZagSnooze). Gilgamesh is a peculiar fist, in the sense that its dashstrikes are so unbelievably weak that the only time one can really justify a dashstrike on gilga is when one is using the MercifulEnd duoboon (ares-attack dashstrike to apply doom, athena-dash from that dashstrike to activate it). Gilgamesh's "maim" is best used on strong enemies only to apply the additional damage debuff to them (as opposed to for the burst of damage at the end), using it on enemies with few lives is a waste of animation-time.

There are 2 major builds that work on most aspects in this game, including the 4 fists.

  • ZAP: zeus attack (and associated tier 2s), artemis special/cast (to open lightning rod 🟩), poseidon dash (and associated tier 2s). Put poms on the dash and zeus static discharge.
  • ares attack, impending doom, athena special, MercifulEnd, athena dash. Put poms on attack.

Now im gonna say something, both casts(mels and zags) are great in their own right but zagreus's is the most fun out of the 2, the downside, it has no aoe... Mels it has an aoe, the downside, its versatile unlike zags, the only major synergy with it is prominance flare and the fireball/lightning lance (exluding weapon synergies) i still find it a missed oppritunity to turn the ares cast into a giant sawblade, granted you get it as its own boon pick, but its not as fun, but with mels, all you do is stack different stuff for the cast, like the meat grinder and the gust, but its not as fun making a homing meatgrinder with zags cast... Yeah, ive played both games till the main endings at least, i still find zags cast more fun, both are versatile in their own right

All weapons and even aspects are usable for most intents and purposes you'd need them for

there is a meta as to what is strongest at what tasks, but I doubt this is relevant for your situation at this time (the differences in strength only become obvious when pushing the game to its limits)

for short, play whatever you like, and feel free to switch to the other weapons once you've got a better grasp on the game. not every weapon feels smooth to everyone (I for instance have a mild dislike for the bows and spears), but with a bit of practice you should be able to figure out how to lower this dislike. often it's just that the recommended button-combo to press isn't one your fingers are used to, or that you're not picking up the boons you should be during the run.

2 reasons (though the builds that use each are often mutually exclusive due to a semi-recently found animation-cancel):

  • it already has a one-way special, whereas the other spears need to recall theirs first. the other spears would need to pick up the exploding launcher hammer before having a special similar to that of gy (without the pierce gy's special has). this means gy can immediately look for the charged skewer hammer, which makes the special basically a discount Rama bow attack
  • spin can heal, and with athena on it the spin can deflect any enemy attack in its path.

There are 2 different types of doors, gold laurels and blue laurels. Gold laurels can be obols, boons, hammers, hermes, pom, and centaur heart. Blue laurels are the minor rewards darkness, keys, gems, and nectar. There is a little asterisk on hammers and boons as there are certain limits placed on how many you can find in a run

they need certain requirements for them, for Merciful End, which is Athena and Ares, you need either Ares on attack or special, and then for Athena you need also i think either on attack or special, then, i think its a 12% chance to get it for every boon you get from athena and ares.

TLDR: Meet the requirements in the codex and then pick up the 2 gods that make up the duo to get it

yeah i love them, im up to 20 heat with them right now and im trying 24 soon, its basically just dash strike, attack normally a few times and use special somewhere in between depending on the aspect(not including zag, bc its just dodge chance iirc) i use gilgamesh and go for aph on attack and some other stuff but also doing merciful end or a hangover build works well with any of the aspects(ME is best on gilgamesh for fists tho)

I have watched people (Haelian, etc) play and refer to XYZ thing as bugged, so they avoid the bugged thing and advise people to do the same. It's been a minute since I have watched those videos, so I can't recall the specifics. I'm on another play through in relatively blissful ignorance, but I also know that some things are bugged and it would be nice if things did what they said they were doing, etc.

I'm not checking to make sure damage numbers are as high as they should be while playing, but knowing that things are bugged... bugs me.
