It usually is. Stygian Soul has a niche as being the less reliable option in certain Cast builds but with way higher potential. Like, Crystal Clarity and Hunting Blades can scale way higher with Stygian Soul, for example. But if you don't get at least 1 extra bloodstone in your run, it's gonna suck for those Cast builds. Hence less reliable.

Also in builds that don't care much for a Cast one way or another, Stygian Soul makes it a little easier to get good boons from Lord Hermes because he has 1 boon that's specific to Stygian Soul but 2 boons for Infernal Soul. So there are players who prefer going that way. Personally I tend to prefer Infernal Soul for those because having 3 bloodstones can also give some extra DPS even if it's not a priority in the build, especially early on in Tartarus.

yeah I just got pretty unlucky I think, since I had basically nothing of scaling save mirage shot going into elysium

which tanked my time

though it’ll always be good to keep my options in mind

I assume you're going for the usual Hera build

Crush Shot Snow Burst etc

Hera Asphodel is pretty good but it's easy to miss so it's a matter of practice and getting to know the rooms so you remember the spawn points and don't end up spending time looking around for that last enemy. Elysium is trickier and will probably be your longest biome, try to group up enemies and use Snow Burst to finish off the eggs instead of using your Casts

Always Dash strike and if you have flurry try to keep a rhythm and dont just hold your attack button
