Got the critical basic attacks and got that to like, lvl 4, got the lightning in my specials while playing spear, plus a chaos boon which made my special even stronger, then a boon which made my special deal extra damage to armored
So I was pressing triangle on anything spooky, I just kept getting health chipped away by the archers in Elysium

i usually just shoot for speed, health, attack speed, and some kind of status effect

You can get behind something or get distance from the Strongbows to ensure they can't hit you.

Got all the way to the duo fight, and was able to survive for like, 4 minutes, but I eventually slipped up and died. Tried focusing down thesius too much and he kept just not taking damage. Might've been able to do something if I went for the minotaur first, but I dunno

Basically, when presented with the option to do more damage vs less damage, the player should always opt for more damage.

Guan-yu is like having exploding throw auto-installed as a hammer to your weapon

Health, like anything, is just a resource. Remember it's only your last 1hp that matters

If you get guan-yu and aphro buff on special you're not only destroying enemies from afar, you're also weakening them, which synergizes with having less health

In conclusion, Guan-Yu supremacy. And I didn't even mention the lifesteal!

And I’m like surely hunter’s mark is not that broken?

People say to take EM2 because Lernie's room is smaller but I have to be honest I usually don't because 1. EM2 requires having EM1, which makes meg more annoying and 2. I dash into lava

Apply the "Don't get hit" mentality. Go with 0 heat and take your time, and primarily use your special (preferably enhanced by Aphrodite). If you get Quick Spin hammer, don't understimate it on Guan-Yu, since your spin attack heals you, it becomes a viable semi-vampiric build, especially if you also get Winged Serpent (which makes the spin attack go further, practically rendering you invincible if you use it right due to all the healing).

But IMO only take Winged Serpent if you already have Quick Spin, it's less good on its own but your mileage may vary

(Massive Spin also combos well with Quick Spin, obviously)

The hammer you’re looking for on Guan Yu is Charged Skewer to improve your Special further because that’s the ideal playstyle. Your rotation is usually something like Special > x2 Dash-strikes

If that hammer is not offered then yea look for Quick spin or massive spin, Serrated is risky and I don’t like it but it works, the rest isn’t all that great

Yea look into changing your strat a little bit, check your mirror and adjust your starting keepsake etc so you have a clear build in mind before you even start the run

Compare any 2 mirror guides, they're never the exact same

Hell, I've seen 2 different mirror guides that conflict in this disc alone

It's because it varies so much with weapons and boons

For instance, crush shot hera? Infernal soul. Trippy shot hera? Stygian soul. Gilgamesh? Maybe take the dash-damage over the 2nd dash. There are tens of exceptions like these

And they can change depending on run builds so much

So never listen to a "mirror guide".. just understand what's good by using logic

For instance most people don't fully understand what Dark Foresight does. Basically, when presented with the option to do more damage vs less damage, the player should always opt for more damage. Guan-yu is like having exploding throw auto-installed as a hammer to your weapon. Health, like anything, is just a resource. Remember it's only your last 1hp that matters. If you get guan-yu and aphro buff on special you're not only destroying enemies from afar, you're also weakening them, which synergizes with having less health. Also, the distance helps prevent taking damage. Guan-yu is one of the best hitless aspects.

People say explosive shot is meh on rama but I literally do 1,060 damage on a fully charged non-power shot twin shot-explosiveshot-aphro%buff

and that's without the 60% extra from shared suffering

So doing close little shots is doing like 300-500 damage

It's meh because of how slow it becomes not really a damage problem

yeah it turns into a melee weapon, but it's kind of not a melee weapon due to shared suffering

You only need to be in melee of one thing to nuke everything you tagged

That said, there are also some scenarios where they enemies don't notice you fast so you can get off a nuclear fully charged shot and either delete the armor or the enemy if it didnt spawn with armor

But on stuff like bosses you play it melee-ish

not if you have a good reaction time

You just try to charge it as much as possible whenever you have an opening to attack

It's tricky because it's easy to get interrupted yea
