I want it to have sounds like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mW7u4tXGXFk
The sound whenever an enemy notices a player (above one mark).
turn based spooky stealth NBA jam with GUN
|| this was my nightmare a couple months ago||
i was thinking about some really heavy, grimy industrial sounds
akin to SH1 or CoF or Lone Survivor - this sort of stuff
bet your sweet bippy that there will be a Power-cast in the next game
Omg something in the vein of Cry of Fear would be awesome, a big sprawling survival horror? Pretty ambitious though
i mean - it doesn't have to be big
but then again - their last two games were pretty thicc with content so who the heck knows
^^
me, before seeing nxc suggest bioshock-esque vibes: hmm, not a fan of horror in general
me, after seeing that suggestion: ...UNLESS π
it is a very very very subtle nuance for me to enjoy that genre. it's something I've come to realise with the years. (tried a few times different horror movies and it rarely worked out for me xD)
let me warn you tho, I have yet to play the first bioshock xD
I have it tho! I bought a second hand copy of it this last summer. lacking the cd reader at the moment so I'm playing hades until the end of times π€£
but yes, a fan of bioshock xD
guessing that you've played infinite
mhmm and bioshock 2 as well
|| that was one helluva confusing story , and the two dlcs||
||the last dlc tho.... , heartfingbroken||
haha yes ||that mini story DLC was...... one heck of a ride. one I won't replay because I'm still too broken years later π ||
I can't do that again
but yeah, that take on the genre(s) I'd like to see from SGG. as well as something dishonored-esque in the stealth ways because I love that too chef's kiss
high five :D
high five
unique stories and unusual gameplays are apparently what makes me become a big fan of a majority of my fave games xD
ofc SGG was an instant hit with me
the scenery of dishonored 2 will never be outmatched by any one
too true (that was me with dishonored 1. then 2 came xD)
well well well
- clears throat *
(although, maybe we ought to move to #video-games
)
in that case @odd oyster
let me introduce you to frictional games and their spooktakular underwater stealth-them-up called Soma
yes yes
and yes - we should
lets go there

my posters should be here tmrw
got a transistor one and the 10th anniversary one of ppl from all 4 games
i told my brother abt my plush and he told me he hopes it implodes when i cuddle it to sleep at night

TRUE
did you get the red poster?
it's honestly my fave one, on my wall as well
suddenly thought about if SG could pull off a fighting game, since hades' visuals remind me of the genre for some reason.
yeah!!
ooo thatd be cool
imagine if you lose in a story mode but the plot continues, and I'm not talking about losing to an unkillable boss
when you said "SGG fighting game" my mind went "lethal league"
my first thought was arcsys-like anime fighter, then a moba-like similar to battlerite, then smash, then lethal league.
i just want them to make a horror game already
||just kidding - i love you folks and i'll be on board with anything you do
||
||but make a horror game tho
||
@ sgg plz make boo game
ey
v excited for their future projects
sgg always does amazing
OFC im more than enjoying hades rn tho
Brb
Hey all, I am doing some research on artists for a class, and I am looking for information and links about Jen Zee!
Things like background, education, and insight about influences. If anyone has tips or links, I would greatly appreciate it!
https://www.supergiantgames.com/team/
This has some information
Supergiant Games is an independent game developer in San Francisco, California. We created the games Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre.
you can start by her deviantart..
way too cool stuff is posted there
@haughty crane @fresh rain Thanks, I will scour those on my search
DeviantArt is here: https://www.deviantart.com/jenzee
It is really hard to find a "years" or "years active" for someone young and alive haha
you could also try looking up some interviews
like the ones from PAX or the noclip docs @brazen gulch
and i think... jen's got a twitter too
though i'm not 100% sure - i'm not all that into social media
@tribal meadow its nice but not really bibliographical for my needs unfortunately: https://twitter.com/0jenzee0
Art Director @Supergiantgames for Bastion, Transistor, Pyre and Hades! I LOVE THINGS. And stuff.
Instagram: http://instagram.com/jenzee_art/
3514
57713
i know she worked on an MMO called, um...
gaia online, i think? you can also try googling that
^^
and @brazen gulch - if you want to woo your teacher with your research and knowledge - make sure to read up on the art of Gustav Klimt - apparently his stuff was a huge source of inspiration for the art of Transistor
wait, do you mean the gaiaonline I think you mean? π
i don't even know what gaia online i mean
i'm not big on MMOs
but i'm pretty sure jen worked on it before the bastion days
well, do tell me what mmo means then aslkdjasd xD
~~not my brain going mmmmo! as if we're talking about the MO from Wall-E π π ~~
MMO games like WoW
Genshin impact ( does it really count?) and Destiny 2 to an extent
oh! and one more thing @brazen gulch
there's a great doc on Giant Bomb called "building the bastion" - as far as i know it's one of the first pieces of this kind about SGGs - you might learn some more history there
hmm did a quick lookie on wikipedia and the game in gaiaonline is zOMG which is one of those MMO and I hardly believe there's more gaiaonlines out there lkalsj anyway, that's really cool that she worked on it
sgg mmo would be like
legendary
i dont think id ever play any other mmo again
and i play ff14 and mhw
Klimt influence on Transistor, Sergio Toppi influence on Pyre iirc
sgg mmo would be the first sgg game i'd skip
danggg
i mean i'll play whatever they make next no matter what it is
they seem to continously hit all the things i look for in a game (characters, music, art, narrative, etc.)
so the type of game/gameplay isnt usually something that would sway my attention
but i totally get how it may for others
i mean - okay...
i would probably play it too
but i'd be like that otter eating watermelon
"Otter dislikes watermelon, but can't stop eating it"
this sort of thing
an SGG horror game, however...

LOL
horror is the one genre i usually actively avoid but
SGG may be the only devs who could make me want to play horror
sgg is the one developer where i would play no matter what type of game it is just bc its made by them so ik its high quality and has a lot of love put into it
LOL
includes its own cast + dlc of iconic characters from other games
you can finally be ti'zo on a motorcycle
man - imagine all the cool tracks that would be in this game
the Cinderbrick Fort Cicruit - with sharp corners and clutter on the track
the Ura Highway - with ice physics
the Cloudbank arena - with lots of space for drifting
Downtown Commonwealth - with shortcuts and narrow alleys
and - let's not forget - the 24 hour long Tour De Elisyum

you know the bowser's castle stages in mario games? that but it's the house of hades
knowing Amir he'd still find a way to cram in a Power Cast into a racing game
I mean, drift-boost is a thing in Mario Kart so...
nyeeeeeh
hmm
High rise tho...
Hi there, if there is a small chance the devs are around, thank you for a fantastic gaming experience π Too bad about the lack of sleep though hehe
Thank you for a truly great game. π
Man canβt believe darren k is in here, every part of the game was good but the soundtrack blew my mind
I literally love this game.
After playing hades i need to play transistor
Supergiant makes some good games for sure
You guys should look into acquiring the rights to Deaths Door and revamping it to be a solo player game π₯°
you guys... my buddy in america bought me some supergiant vinyls. π
it's been a years long dream of mine to own some and now I got em!!!!!
Hey I didn't particularly know where to put this because it's kinda a generalized question about Supergiant's terms so I'll put it here.
I was thinking about doing a personal hand-done recreation of that giant map scroll that is in between loading transitions in Hades just for personal use and wanted to know if that was unwelcome? I noticed in the "policy on fan merchandise" it said don't use official "art or assets from our games" and I didn't really know if that referred to just like prints of art or just the entirety of the art in general. I see quite a bit of like redraws and all of that so I was wondering if it'd be alright to do a hand-done redraw of that giant map scroll. If you've got any answers for that question that'd be great!
I'd recommend reaching out to the devs through https://www.supergiantgames.com/contact/ ! They check that a bit more frequently than the discord
Supergiant Games is an independent game developer in San Francisco, California. We created the games Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre.
forewarning their emails have been backlogged
Got it! Thank you very much
As tatz said, they have been getting quite a bit, so it may still take a bit before you get a reply
Alright, I'm honestly not quite sure it'd be allowed but I hope it would be because remaking that piece would be a ton of fun
I think the bit about not using official art is like. literally taking artwork that's been posted or game assets or smth and using those, it's not really the same thing if you're redrawing it yourself by hand. but it would certainly be best to seek clarification from the team
Honestly the reason I was asking in the first place was to clarify if that rule was only in place for prints or for recreations as well
ah yeah they don't specify with that
I also didn't really think they specified much on if the rules were only in place for merchandise to sell or personal stuff, but that is neither here nor there, they can't account for every question
well all you can do is contact them. i don't know how big their backlog is or how long it will take to catch up but if you go a week or two without a response, feel free to try pinging their twitter or bring it up again here
I'm not planning on starting it for at least another few months anyway lol, college is rough
oh LOL well then i guess waiting a bit won't be too much of a bother
still though if you haven't seen a reply by then feel free to drop back in
now ain't that a mood
:3
Not really lol, making those things takes time anyways, I made a different one for a different in game art piece that was like 30 inches x 20 inches and it took forever, if I do start on this one it'll be 28x48
and even more complicated
so I'm waiting until I've got summer break open lol
lawl
Do show it off when your done though! That sounds so cool and I'd love to see it
I think its just ok if you dont use it for monetization like selling it or something
Looking at the language on their policy for fan merchandise it does look like they're only referring to selling stuff (rather than making for personal use) now that I'm looking at it without being tired outside of my mind, I still probably think I'll wait until I make sure though as sometimes its hard to tell with stuff like this
Soooo will hades come to other consoles cus I want to play it on ps4
from the #hades-faq
Will Hades ever come to other platforms?
We launched v1.0 of Hades only on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. We'll be considering opportunities to bring the game to additional platforms down the line. Thank you for your interest.
Congrats to the team and Hades for winning Best Game at The New York Game Awards!

Yesss, it was so very deserved!!! Thank you team for blessing us, quite literally, with this masterpiece!

also for anyone who missed it, Darren and Ashley performed for the NY Game Awards as well!
https://www.twitch.tv/videos/889356157?t=3h3m38s
Their performance begins at 3:04
Hello Everyone, i just finish the story of hades and i got shock, i just buy all the supergiant games, whitch one should I play frist? (the OST and the story is something i really care rather the roge-like mecanic)
I personally went and played the rest in release order (Bastion, Transistor, Pyre). It was really cool seeing how they improved and developed over time
Yes i thought about it, is just i got some review about bastion and i was unsure (bascily i was told if i have in mind to play an hades 2 i will be disappointed) so that why i ask you here
sure!
Bastion has similar gameplay in some ways, though the action is slower
it has the most similar combat though, out of the three
Congrats to the SGG team for all the awards Hades got in the New York Game Awards! Well deserved
Well deserved
lmao hades asserted dominance at The New York Game Awards
Hades straight up T-posed at everything
ngl hades could've won best kids game if it wasnt for aphrodite being naked
And the ||BDSM implications|| of Meg/Zag, or all the LGBT represenatation in the game
Hopefully we're past the point where LGBT representation automatically brands something as mature?
^
You'd think, but people who give awards are typically behind the times. LGBT rep in mainstream TV only became a normal thing in, like, 2018
Consider that ||Korrasami|| wasn't allowed beyond hand-holding in 2014, and ||She-Ra|| was queercoded from 2018 to 2020. We're a ways off from children's TV having LGBT rep normalised
I'm aware of the struggles of showrunners everywhere (best of luck to Lumberjanes, now!), but a game awards committee is not a major TV network... I don't think Hades would qualify due to, yknow, all the blood, for starters. ESRB has it at Teen for violence, blood, mild language, alcohol references and suggestive themes... looks like Dio is as culpable as Aphrodite in this regard, haha!
But something like... Bugsnax, idk? I haven't played Bugsnax yet, I only osmosed it has a gay couple in it somewhere? is at E10+ for reasons that don't mention the LGBT couple... (ETA ditto Undertale)
realistically speaking there's not a whole lot they can add with dlc since the story is so tight already that trying to introduce significant narrative elements could be a little awkward. they could do like potentially additional weapons or something but any substantial content may as well be done as a sequel, if anything imo
i think even if they added in like. a few new prophecies with a new character or whatever people would still be like "that's it? :/β
is there anyone i can message about an order from the store? ive sent two support requests on the website and its been over a month
hey friend, apologies! the team has been backlogged in emails since the holidays and have been trying to catch up, which is what is causing the delays. is this a time sensitive thing or just a general inquiry?
I remember Supergiant from way back before Bastion, and seeing Greg at the first PAX East ||I still have the bandanna somewhere here||. I listened to a lot of his stuff from the Gamespot days. It is so cool to see how much SG has grown and how huge Hades is. Just wanted to say you all rock.
my mom said she ordered me the Hades soundtrack on vinyl and she lost the confirmation email, was wondering if it could get resent
damn
we really in the supergiant games channel in the supergiant games category in the supergiant games server

So all I want to know now is...everything about SGG's NEXT game....I'm ready!
I see! you would probably have to get in touch with @atomic flicker about that (gently pings..)
Yeah I can help you with that @devout siren ! If you DM me the name the order was addressed to, I can message you an update.
Bidet!
Also yeah but I low-key hope it's like another Hades one gimme those sweet sweet classical history vibes
The only other one that I can think of that's p spot on in this way is Apotheon
i kind of hope that their next game will have an original world. their first three games had such vibrant settings
do the games (besides hades) tend to go on sale on switch pretty often like bastion does? i really want to look into transistor and pyre soon but im usually low on money
transistor is always on sale with bastion, pyre did not get a switch release
will do!!
I just realized I sourced Supergiant as a key inspiration in all my major works without any intention for this to happen and for 3 different reasons (so a thank you for supergiant for carrying me to graduation)
Transistor was the free ps+ game at one point as well
So if you have a PS4 maybe you already have it
And on Epic as well! While Pyre is in the big racial equality bundle!
Thatβs good to hear
And I would have paid a lot more than $60 for transistor, itβs better than the vast majority of games released at that price
Hello, I'm not sure if this is the right avenue for my problem, but I was hoping I could at least be redirected. I purchased posters from the Supergiant store almost a month ago (2 days before the site said the shipping team came back from break), last week a printing label was made, but no movement since or updates. I emailed twice and submitted 2 support tickets along the way with no reply. Honestly just confused at this point on all counts. Thanks for reading!
hey friend, apologies! Supergiant has been backlogged in emails since the holidays and have been trying to catch up, which is what is causing the delays.
Cheers for the swift reply, pal! That makes me wonder, is there someone I might be able to reach out to and offer support in that regard? I'm in a similar line of work, love Supergiant, and I see a need! Thanks π
No worries
unfortunately not I that I'm aware of, the contact us page on their website says Supergiant aren't looking expand their team atm, but they'll likely update the website if that changes ^_^
I'll keep an eye out and try my luck on Twitter! I'm actually in content moderation for [redacted game studio], so my job is literally involving Discord moderation at the moment. If you all here ever need any help with that, consider me a volunteer, ripe for vetting! Happy to have just found this group and I'll be around either way. Thanks!
Hello ! Is there still no European distributor for merchandising ? Shipping cost is a bit pricy from US
So far there's only a distributor for vinyls - https://blackscreenrecords.com/search?q=supergiant+games
They are all sold out for now, though π¦
ok thank you
so - i'm watching the latest part of the hades noclip documentary, and...
Amir! π±
Language!

also - it's nice to see that Greg's room didn't change one bit since early bastion days
that fabulous Ultima V boxed copy is probably still somewhere there

hey! Amir's here
well done on these docu series, I saw a couple of vids from NoClip !
that moment when someone makes a game and you like the game that they made
aaawwwww
http://prntscr.com/xzi36a
that cat is the most valuable SGG employee
that cat needs a raise
extra treatπͺ
the cat should be inside the star in the SGG icon
but yeah - i'm really glad that - despite everything that's going on - you guys still managed to launch such an awesome game
i've been following you since early bastion days and - well - here's to another 10 awesome years π»
^
*
How would you guys feel if SGG were acquired by a bigger company?
Hypothetically of course
what if nothing changed
just more resources
I think the indie aspect really gives the game more charm, but itd also be cool to see what sgg could do with more resources
Not going either way, I just wanna see them be successful
just more room to make interesting theme and make it isometric and knowing Amir, he would put PowerCast β’

If they wanted to work on a project with more resources I'm sure any one of them could jump ship and join a company that gives it to them. I think the creative control they get out of being masters of their own fates/schedules is a big part of the appeal
no more power casts!
ngl powercast became a second nature to me
oh oh
|| we get a witcher-like fantasy theme, that would be awesome||
Yeah absolutely
If they stay independent and can keep on making these great experiences, then more power to them
but yeah , I'm fine to what they've put out
|| time to remaster bastion for new gen||

or or, the SGGCollection
"experience the best SGG has ever made" and it would have the 4 games
Maybe in a few years yeah
make it out for the switch too
and update bastion on pc so it looks cool (tbh it aged like a wine)
seriously though

this episode was such a great note to end this thing on
once again - thank you and congratulations to everyone involved
and to danny and his noclip crew too ||maybe he will see this i dunno||
and haku, the cat
we can't forget about the
I'm very happy with the attention the studio has gotten from Hades
Being an indie studio isn't a statement about the size of a the studio but about how it treats its people and community. Stay an indie studio forever guys and we will always support you. Just keep making what you love no matter what the trends want .π¬π·
yeah, do what's best for the studio
exactly
||but pls make a spooky horror game
||
||smthing smthing SOMAlike smthing smthing||
I mostly lurk around here but after finishing the doc I just wanted to thank everyone from the studio for making such passionate projects and being all around awesome. You're the best!
Now back to lurking
Thank you Supergiant Games and Noclip for the documentaries. Loved Hades. Loved Developing Hell.
I'm especially happy for the conversation on the mental health implication during the video - About missing people you're on zoom call with all day. Or what Amir said about his mentor telling him about stories you tell yourself - Game is good needn't mean process is good. Subtle callouts to simple things
yeah
i think all of us can somewhat relate to what was said there, in one way or another
one thing is certain - sticking with SGGs for so long, listening to all the panels and interviews and docs ||including the good ol' building the bastion|| really helped me... mature in my creative ways, so to speak
and taught me some important lessons
Actually, the noclip documentary was the last push towards backing Hades' Early Access.
Heard some friends talking about it before, but when I saw the first four parts of the documentary, I knew I had to buy the game, simply because how wonderful and nice everybody was
I only then learned that these guys already did one of my favourite games (Bastion) - never was a fanboy of any studio until this point.
When I first watched the series, there was some part about how they wanted to make sure not to get into to much crunch and setting their own pace - unfortunately I could find it. But I wondered how it worked out in the end, when you have a (small) Nintendo Direct coming... Really hope they made it work nicely for them.
i think that... this sort of transparency about their work isn't just for show
it's not that it's just a nice little bit of trivia for people interested in their games
it's also a a great source of inspiration
and hey - who knows - maybe there's another generation of talented indie devs out there learning from your words
its really nice to see how the studio has developed and grown over the years until this day, and the impact it has left on gaming as a whole at this point, like going the early access, long time development route instead of crunch for example, this is something that kinda really stood out to me in my opinion
its sad to see that nowadays everythings pushing towards churning out as many games as possible in such a short timeframe, which in turn makes me hopeful for studios like sgg who do put in a lot of effort to make sure the team isnt downright suffering during development
this means so much to me, as someone whos unsure of what the future of work in creative professions could be like, so....
thank you, for giving me hope
its really nice to see how the studio has developed and grown over the years
and yet - Greg's room still looks the same
The feels hit hard in that last episode. I've really loved every moment of these docs. You guys are great and it was really nice to see the game get the praise it deserves.
It does give me a bit of hope that maybe the industry will shift away from the widespread worker abuse
I think this is up to us, though.
oh i already purposely avoid games that mistreat their devs, don't you worry, but yes, it is up to the consumers to avoid supporting companies that practice crunch
trust me, i really really really don't want to work in a broken and exploitative industry after i graduate
it's nice to see supergiant setting an example for how things could should be
never ever bought into the Cyberpunk-Hype because of this reason β¬οΈ
yes ~~sir ~~ crow
a crunch-free, awesome couple of devs did game that is in the same spot as Sony's exclusives (TLOU2 and GoT), and DOOM Eternal, and also Nintendo
that alone is a feat of its own
makes me happy to think about AAA Studios probably being salty about having to compete against indie devs
AAA studios put big budget into games and they are not willing to take a risk. In the same time their games become boring as they create another similar game.
||cool reminder that Hades will still get awards for years to come!||
It shows that if you treat your staff right, expect great results from them
for me graphics are really low on the totem pole
its
Gameplay
Story
Characters
Length
artstyle
graphics
im separating artstyle and graphics because
a game with a unique artstyle can be better than one thats super realistic
IE: borderlands
I'm taking absolutely forever to make it through the last episode of the documentary school really be stealing all my time but it is downright fantastic and I am so damn grateful for it. I recommend it to everyone
I struggle to call Supergiant games "worse looking" because they use their awesome 2D art to make up for a somewhat lacking 3D modelling budget
"worse looking" here basically means "not photorealistic AAA mocap"
a ton of people bought Persona 5 for $60, twice, despite it being a PS3 game
500k+ bought an upscaled Vita port in P4G
striving for photorealism is a fools errand. games that tried to look "real" from the early 2000's look like garbage nowadays, but Wind Waker? The GBA kirby games? They still look good.
though I'm reasonably certain that Atlus probably still crunched on P5 and Royal because Japan really likes crunch outside the gaming industry
can i just say:
sgg art book
pyre sheet music
hades sheet music
thanks, have a nice night
and more pats and snacks for haku
Just stopping by to say I love the Supergiant Games! Played through all of the games released and can't get enough of them! Love the art styles, stories, and oh man, the music - it's so freaking good! Thank you for your time! π
huh
i guess amir wasn't joking at the end of that doc when he said he's gonna work on a patch right away
alskdjasd
"magically appear"
reminds me of the first doc when the game link didn't work until the end of the trailer
wow i just watched the noclip and man, yall are amazing. i played bastion when i was a kid and fell in love(i cant tell you how many times i replayed it). Once transistor came out i wanted to play it so badly but wasnt able to until it went for free on the epic store(i feel like i should still pay like 60$ for it tho) and wow, that was just beautiful. And playing hades, being with it from early access to where it is now, it feels great. yall are such an amazing company that makes games that are nothing less than masterpieces(i think we can all agree that last of us shouldnt have won goty, hades more than deserved it). I still need to get pyre but im sure i will love it to bits and replay it hundreds of times. So yea, you all are an amazing company and i think i speak for everyone when i say we love you guys and will support you guys all the way with whatever you do next!
I just found my quote of the day for english class.
"we always want one of our games when it comes out to have the potential to be someone's favorite game" -Amir Rao
Finished the noclip doc today, fantastic content
very excited to see what sgg's next chapter will be
This game genuinely seems like it was made by so many more people, so seeing such a small crew make something so impactful was amazing to see
Hi everyone at Supergiant, I've been playing your games since Bastion and haven't interacted at all, I absolutely love all 4 of your games (although when I was younger I didn't get all of transistors story replayed it recently and saw it in a whole new amazing light) and just wanted to say thank you to all of you. I especially love all of Darren and Ashley's music and Logans voices. You have created 4 of my favourite games of all time and a lot of my favourite music. Thank you all. I'll definitely be playing your next game.
TrueGaming , an Arabic gaming reviewer website, today they held their Annual awards
and whaddya know,** Hades gets the independent game award of 2020**
and sgg twitter responded to that
@TrueGaming Thank you very much!! We really appreciate you thinking of Hades for this!

This is a weird question but here goes: In Bastion, there's this instrument, effect, or some special tech on a particular instrument that sounds like an upward glissando on... like a cello string? It happens during combat transitions, and it has the effect of increasing tension. The exact same sound is featured in the musical Hamilton during the 10 Duel Commandments, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7iHmuco_zo which makes me think it's a stock effect in a DAW, but I could be wrong. What doth this sound?

Oh man, I just found out that vinyl soundtrack for Hades is sold out. Vinyls look sooo cool. Pity I can't get it π
Vinyl records typically don't appreciate in value too too much, there's a good chance you'll be able to get a secondhand copy for a similar price
Well, I live in Russia where secondhand market is, let's say, not as well-populated as in some other countries
I'd argue that most people who buy it here won't want to sell it anytime soon
Yep sounds pretty rough, I don't know much about foreign shipping. I just use discogs.com, and I'm in the privileged shipping region of the US so I can't speak to how good discogs is internationally.
Keep an eye on this site, if there's a restock it'd be easier (cheaper) to order here, as they're based in Europe https://blackscreenrecords.com/search?q=supergiant+games
Cool, thanks for the advice, will do!
I know Iβm late, but I finished no clip and it was amazing. Thank you no clip for recording and Sgg for everything. Love how you guys work hard creating imaginative games and are humble.
Just finished watching the noclip documentry series. What an awesome team and an awesome story!
Hi Iβve beaten Hades(sorta) and I wanted to say thank you for such an amazing game, itβs definitely gonna be my most favorite game for a long while unless Hades 2 comes outπ
My only problem is that I felt wrong paying so little for the game on the epic store
But thank you Supergiant games
sounds like some variant of a siren. I know Hamilton's music is based off of hip-hop, and it feels like ive heard similar sirens before in other hip hop, so you might be able to find it looking through that sort of tech
so i donβt normally write these sorts of things...i think about doing so for a while, then i forget about it. but i watched the noclip doc, so here goes! bastionβs the first game that made me cry. transistorβs atmoshpere left me in awe. pyre is my favourite game, probably of all time. and hades has me enjoying a rougelike, which i didnβt think could happen. so all of you at sgg, thank you! for your amazing stories, your music (which i listen to while iβm working), and for being such genuine people!
and iβm new to the discord, but thank you to the community as well, yβall seem so nice and supportive of each other!
alright, back to 90% lurking
So curious question:
What're the computer languages / programs that SGG uses for building their games??
I've had some loose ideas for an old school TB RPG and wanted to know whats used by Quality Devs π
The gameplay scripting is done in Lua, and the game itself runs on the Forge engine, which uses C/C++ iirc
That being said--depending on your scope, I might suggest looking into https://www.rpgmakerweb.com/ , which is a really handy tool for making relatively simple RPGs.
Oh nice, thanks π
Sure thing ^.^ Good luck with your game
I think they said for Hades they made it run on C natively
Idk if that helps at all
Which ver of C though??
That was something I was wondering,
cuz I know you can do Lua for interactions,
but I was wondering what the base code for the game was written in,
and if Forge is just an in-house engine
Forge is a third-party rendering... stuff. https://theforge.dev/products/the-forge/
in-house engine yes though.
Amir's quote literally on the front page.
sgg next game: zagreus. it's a tower defense game and you play as hades
The sequel to that game will just be called Olympus,
where it's a gambling game where you play as the gods and try to predict where Zagreus is in his escape from the underworld.
It also is a relationship dating sim as you have to manage the social links of the other gods in order to create duality powers to aide Zagreus in his escape.
The interesting wrinkle is while all of this is happening, you also have to manage the agrometer of Chaos just showing up during a run randomly and throwing a wrench into all of your plans
Lololol
thats literally just a game of uno
Even better: It's uno stack but the stack stability is the stability of olympus
for reference
Update: SGG posters came through! No CS replies but no worries at this point. Hyped to put them up, will post
π
Posted in #fan-works, didn't realize I can't here
do you have a link to a store page, i cannot find it. please give it to me. i need it.
Love hades in the switch. went back to transistor in my backlog and bought pyre because of the noclip docs. And love them. Just need ps5 save issue resolved for transistor.
Have you contacted the devs about the save issues?
no one:
not a soul:
school: Write a...
Me: Writes analysis on the innovation of supergiant through the game Hades
Also, back to the uno thing. There are way too many uno variants
Uno, Uno Stacko, Uno flip, Uno jackpot, Uno moo, Uno attack, uno choo-choo. And those are only the ones being sold atm
Uno blitz is actually fire though
hell yeah it is. Flip is my favourite
is there a "meme" channel?
if it's SGG related, #fan-works
if it's not, guess #off-topic-discussion , but I don't think proxywordposts are under "memes"

Heβs really big and detailed too. The photo on the site does not do him justice.

I didn't know about that when it was happening

His laugh when she mentioned Theseus was priceless xD
If he says FIEND it'll be the best XD

Hi! I'm sure you guys get this question a lot, but...I've played a lot of Hades and started Transistor, greatly enjoying both. Is there a game you'd suggest I start next?
ummm i mean if you want a similar game as to hades in combat id say bastion
and pyre if you wanna play basketball
Both sound fun tbh!
I'll probably start w/ Bastion and move to Pyre since I'm sure I'll be a fan of both :)
basketball
but yea pyre has amazing story from what ive heard
and bastion is also very good in that aspect and more of a combat game so ye, all preference
bastion is cool with the combat
After Hades? Diablo3
Could anyone provide a quick summary of the other games for me? That is, Pyre, Transistor andBastion
Iβd like to know a bit bout them
ok
I'll explain in simple short terms
:]
bastion essentially the world is destroyed after this calamity and you, the mc(the kid) gotta do things
Bastion: kid takes gems to build town
Transistor : Girl has sword
sword makes her stop time and do stuff, chess but better
transistor description just lol
sword also talks
and i love the game
wait even better , Pyre:
people look stars, move cart, and play basketball to death
transistor almost made me cry
||me too||
i didnt say anything besides i almost cried
and BASKETBALL
hands down best reason to play pyre
well, basketball and tears
that, and basketball and Darren just crack his knuckles at this game with the amazing OSTs
every game be like that tho
and honestly i personally liked transistor the most in terms of soundtrack
like damn ashley can sing
pyre's is so diverse, though
tears made of basketball
live breathe and die basketball
YES, (scrambles as I count how many transistor osts i have in my spotify playlist)
i have 21 sgg songs
11 being transistor
like 3 hades
3 pyre
and the rest are bastion
Old friends, paperboats, we all become, the spine, gateless, in circles
Never to return, path to glory (accusers theme), vagrant song, in the flame , surviving exile
whenever i hear in the flame, i have to stop what i'm doing and just vibe
and finally, out of tartarus cuz I found out I needed some Bass in my life
i listen to coasting, paper boats, we all become, the spine, in circles, zias theme, zulfs theme, in the blood, lament of orpheus, in the flame, bastion end theme, she shines, never to return
and like all of the songs of supergiant versions
oh and let's not forget, Setting sail, coming home
cuz those just go hard
i just have a nostalgia trip when i listen to remember the bastion
build that wall
I donβt know much about basketball, but I do like character focused stuff
basketball focused character stuff
lol no but imagine
if you're a fan of the found family, pyre's great
like someone has a mental breakdown over basketball
bruh any of sgg games are good for that
Sounds... interesting
eh, i always found transistor a bit lonely
Paper Boats ... oh man, its top10 in 2020 on my playlist
just red and her sword against the world
||that ending tho ;w;||
||i remember just being in shock lol||
||like i was too but after the initial hit i almost cried||
like damn ||she rather leave the world in shambles and be with her husband then fix things and just have his voice||
just π
hehe lol yea
My fav Greg Quote heh
me with every sgg game
yeaaaa
bastion also hit hard wth that ending
has to play it 4 times to get all options
i just love sgg
that's bold of you, i could never ||leave zulf behind||
i mean
||there's nothing left to fix||
hi everyone im new to this channel and the games Hades, is God Mode necessary?
Nope ^.^
it makes the game a bit easier is all (reduces the damage you take, scaling every time you die)
god mode is only "easier" in the early game, once you add difficulty modifiers the game can still be quite difficult
yeah! and a reasonable difficulty for one person might be inaccessible to another for a variety of reasons, so it makes it possible for more people to play hades
so Hades now has more gotys than Journey, making it the most awarded indie game ever
that's nuts
epic
wow, awesome
sick
Wow thatβs rad
Deserved for SGG
my SGG 10th anniversary and transistor poster arrived today!! i ordered them on Christmas
THEYRE SO BIG THO
I believe so!!
yes
i'll take more photos once i actually get them hung up
congrats hades for being on the rpg button in the lunar sale π https://gyazo.com/69d1be8900a6223b5e4e4d70d8b6e559
just saying that you can buy Pyre, Transistor, and Bastion for 15 bucks.
^^^^
^^^^^
I now own every single Supergiant game. I now will know all the hype.
Which do I play first?
I reccommend playing them in release order tbh
Bastion, Transisotr, Pyre, then Hades
I've already played Hades, but i see your pattern.
you see a lot of the organic evolution of their gameplay and storytelling by playing at least the frist two in that order
I played Transistor then Bastion and it felt like a weird downgrade bc a lot of the mechanics of Bastion are super streamlined into Transitor. Everything seems to share some common DNA/bones though, esp their combat systems
that's just me. Imo I did myself a disservice by playing them out of order, though I'm not sure I would have fallen as hard for Transistor if I hadn't played it first...?
I did the Hades -> Bastion -> Transistor -> Pyre route, worked well
Well, that seems like it will be mine aswell.
i vaguely remember playing the demo on the 360 back in like 2012
i'm excited to say the least
one last question
are all the games better with controller?
I played all of them with M&K Β―_(γ)_/Β―
i'll do you one better: i played them all with keyboard and trackpad
this
and this
it's all part of my plan
to convince people that i'm a Next Level Gamer (TM) when actually i'm just bad at games
supergiant recommends using hard labor to counteract god mode https://twitter.com/SupergiantGames/status/1314686069544165377
@joegearhart @MattSolo734 Thank you for the feedback. In the absence of this feature, if you haven't already, please consider setting the Hard Labor condition of the Pact to counteract God Mode's benefit. It's not exactly what you're asking for though hopefully will help.
Every supergiant game so cheap rn but i just wasted my money on another game that was on sale like 2 weeks ago
Couldve used that same price to buy bastion transistor pyre
Sucks to suck. i got them all for 14 bucks.
subtle flex.
Yeah would've been nice to get the whole collection
I played transistor and bastion on mobile
I have no idea what Bastion nor Transistor are about but I just had to support this awesome company so I bought them yesterday
I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy them though, they both look amazing
Welcome welcome
role yourself so you can greenbluebrown
So I can what? :o
@wraith python supergiant-related convo is more suited here, but to reply to you: bastion and transistor got physical releases years after they released so just because they got one doesn't mean hades might get one any time soon. either way it's up to supergiant.
well, you can tell us which games have you played, and if got the pyre one too you can become gold like some of us
Ohhh that's cool :OO Thanks Honk!!
Also a good point, I knew Bastion was years later but didn't realise Transistor was too! I have no willpower so I'll likely own it soon
transistor was released in 2014 and the limited run physical release was 2019 :)
so hades may get a physical at some point but for all we know it could take a while
for the 5 years π , right?
dunno
they never mentioned it on the blog post https://www.supergiantgames.com/blog/transistor-new-boxed-collectors-edition/
Supergiant Games is an independent game developer in San Francisco, California. We created the games Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre.
the bastion physical release was 2018
so transistor being the year after may have been coincidental to the 5 years since release more than anything
skimming through twitter supergiant was saying for a long while "no current plans for physical" with bastion/transistor before they actually happened so that sentiment on hades is par for the course
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac5ksZTvZN8
Overly Sarcastic Productions references Supergiant Games near the end of the video π

You asked, I've answered! Today let's discuss greek mythology's most beloved AND most maligned relationship - but which reputation is truly deserved? You all know where I stand on the matter, but today I'll do ...
osp is how i first learned about zagreus just existing as a mythos figure
I love their videos, they're so good
i love the dionysus video
like he be a god of madness and death too
much cooler than wine
but wine is also cool
Did not know Supergiant Games had a discord, but absolutely loved Bastion and Transistor.
get yourself some nice game roles from #bot-commands
Thanks Johnduck, just followed your advice!
okay honk() too
I want bastion, transistor, pyre so bad π theyre super cheap rn
waaaaiiit this might be my time to get pyre and complete the collection

buy me one
Iβm probs gonna buy them
Hope I like hem, some might be a bit diff from what I normally play but theyβre all high rated and such
due to repeated patterns we should have the next supergiant game out in early 2023. Bastion came out in 2011, Transistor came out in 2014, Pyre came out in 2017 and Hades came out in late 2020. Due to this consistent pattern, I believe the wait for the next Supergiant game will be shorter than expected, UNLESS! Supergiant puts even more of their all into the next so it takes longer, BUT it's better in almost every way. Of course, no pressure, just noticed this weird little quirk/pattern.
hey, i didn't say it
lol
lol
lol
lol
My favorite thing about having played transistor before hades is the fact that Voidstones annoy me as much as spotlights did
who else is praying for hades dlc
there won't be
I'm not much for praying but I won't complain either.
there won't be
I kinda hope there isn't, as great as Hades is I'd much prefer a new game
that's exactly what will happen
I'll be satisfied either way.
Hades is actually a pyre expansion
You can tell because both are very good
I would be happy if the made a new game, or:
Bastagain
Transis-two-r
Pyre-er
Hades (2021)
SSGDevs tend to leave the past game as is then go onto the next project
which creates this dilemma of "I want a sequel of that universe and characters and gameplay" and "fresh ideas is the best"
I think it definitely helps that all of their stories are pretty self contained
Which I very much appreciate
I would be hyped to explore the world more but itβll be cool to see whatever they do next
I think that sgg hides hints to what their next game will be.
so hades, bastion, transistor, and pyre all have characters.
you see the pattern.
therefore their next game will have characters
Not to mention that all of the above games have a story.
therefore their next game will have a story.
no ,that's a coincidence!
dont tell me they'll have settings menu
wait, you're right!
huh?
they all have a settings menu.
||i actually wonder if they're ever gonna get rid of the isometric thing, i thought once when i was looking at all the games that they seem like they have the same gameplay because you attack things and they all have the same camera (i'm wrong btw) i thought maybe they'll make a 2d platformer or a 3rd person shooter.||
still have my fingers crossed for some kind of horror game, I'd love to see SG's take on somehting surreal in the vein of Silent Hill or maybe Little Nightmares π€
soma
horror sequel to Transistor O,o
horror's very much a genre i avoid, but i don't really like rougelites either, so...
if anyone can get me to play a horror, it's sgg
sable just gave me an idea on an image that'll describe transistor's horror sequel
and honestly a prequel is nowhere near as enticing
I'd love to see more of the world but uh
Can't really disagree with that but I can imagine one and not the other which is why I'm asking
see you in the country
Man I wish there was some hades merch, pops or something
Grabbed hades on switch because of its GOTY nomination and it became my favorite game of the year
There is some merch on their website
||recursion or something related maybe||

Some interesting connections!
So something as I've played this game for many hours have been picking up a lot of connections between other SuperGiant games and I just thought I share because while Supergiants games are very different in style and genre they pull from each other strengths beautifully and Hades is the current build of that Pulling. So lets start. Bastion: The ...
nice
"see the respawn mechanic of the enemies in transistor be near the same as the fighters in Elysium down to the eyeball design"
the moment I saw it I was like "you aren't going to pull that stuff again, are you?"
Are you?
So you also know that there are Heat that makes them also split to 4? Where only one is real ?
And the rest explode!
Nice thank you! I noticed some of these but not all really
The fighters/cells is SO obvious though damn
Dialogue system created for Pyre is used in Hades
"Boons" system created for Transistor (advanced skills tree and upgrades) was used in Hades.
Fighting system created for Bastion was used in Hades too.
All of these systems ware reused and upgraded for Hades
For Dialogue system I mean system that allow NPCs to know what you did, track your progress and remember previous chats, as well as advanced chat trees.
Skills tree used in Transistor had a lot upgrades, the code is very the same in Hades, in code upgrades call base abilities and change them with selected values. Like range, speed, etc. and of course animations etc
If someone played beta/alpha then must know that at the start Hades was much ... slower, all due the fact that you could not attack with few abilites at the same time
This is only semi-related but I think about it every time both games are brought up and compared https://japhers.tumblr.com/post/638810686372397056/aspect-of
sometimes during development the combat system got "buffering", that means that when you used another ability when one is already used its buffered and casted right after first end.
Yes!!! Love that art
That added so much more flow and "speeded" up the combat
When it's worded like this it does sound like an invisible Turn tbh
omg i love this
Yes! , the abilities you use are queued. That's great thought
i wanna hear darren sing we all become in his zag voice
Tho, in hades they have little timeout, so you can not smash buttons and then have to wait 5s till all these action will be performed heh
?
( responded to in #off-topic-discussion )
ah
ooo this is so cool...
IDK if this is the place to ask, but where would I go if I had an issue with an order from their merchandise store. I emailed info@supergiant almost a month ago with no response
apologies, the team has been working through email backlog! you'll need to talk with @atomic flicker

idk, but now we wait for preorders

just gotta wait another month π
yep βΊοΈ
welp. That's an auto buy.
Shoutouts to that physical release.
I'd love to buy it frame one it but lol having money
If you buy Hades three times you get to pay the full $60 that the game is actually worth
TRUUUUUUUUUE
I know that Hades released not long ago, but I already canβt wait to see what Supergiant comes up with next. As much as I love Greek mythology, I hope itβs set in an original world of their own creation. Iβm excited to see if and how theyβll expand on the relationship mechanics from Hades
Same same same!! Fingers crossed for a new, unique world from them!
if they keep making the characters this seggsy i might just have to retire from games
post that over to #fan-works
oh yeah! Sorry

nice!
Already bought hades on switch but I can NOT wait to get the physical version! Art book looks sick
yep, itll be the 3rd time im getting it once the physical comes out
Game is worth so much more than the 15 I paid on switch for it (I had eshop coins to discount) so I donβt mind buying it again as a collector, supergiant deserves it
yea, i bought it at 20 for early access and 25 for my stepbrother and me
and im gonna get the physical for personal use
so like, im paying the 60$ it deserves
damned steam, it doesnt give me the Thorn of Thanatos achievement to 100%

Hi people, i'm having problems with supergiant store and the contact email is not answering me, do anybody know another way for me to contact the store? ( the email i'm trying to contact without success is info@supergiantgames.com )
Heyo! The devs are still working through a bit of an email backlog, sorry. How long has it been since you emailed them?
since february first
=/
@atomic flicker When you get the chance, could you look into this?
Hey Biu! Give me a DM when you can with your email you used to message us, I can take a look at it today.
OK!
Anyone have a clue on when the preordered 10th anniversary vinyls will ship?
I'd email SGG or use their contact page, though please be patient as they're still working through a bit of a backlog
Thank you Super Giant Games, just pre order my physical switch copy β€οΈ I need that compendium! β€οΈ I am having ton of fun playing this game
Of course! I notice it saying Q1, I was just curious if they'd announced any further details.
Ah, I see. Not that I'm aware of, but I haven't been following it closely
I'll keep my eyes peeled. π
Listening to βSongs of Supergiantβ; βPaper Boatsβ came on. If someone with video editing skills makes an AMV with the Hades characters, you will be my new best friend.
Need this game to come to ps4 to get a plat for t
any other super giant games recommendations?
what did you like about hades?
all of em
bastion has the same gameplay in terms of weaponary and dodging enemies
pyre has the characters
and transistor has the combinations
and pyre is fancy basketball
only this time the characters future is hinging on the 3 pointer
and the caster is Logan cunningham but he says rrrrrr instead of r
My favorite thing about βHadesβ was...
A: The combat (Bastion)
B: Optimizing builds (Transistor)
C: The characters and relationships (Pyre)
D: MUSIC!!!! (All of the above)
you let darren touch a game it'll become a banger
Yes but consider: Pyre has weekly multiplayer and currently a tournament. Can the others claim that much? Didn't think so
nope
it's more like fancy soccer
trust me it's cool
mm i'll mull it over
fantasy that-game-the-aztecs-played-with-really-high-stone-hoops
it's nothing like quidditch
I think it's worth noting that the gameplay is fantasy sportsball, but it doesn't have the... attitude of a sports game
It's an extremely solemn game about societal cycles, freedom and bonds
Plus you can attack the other players in it
it is good fantasy basketball!
Ritual fantasy basketball for personal and societal enlightenment! as you do
ey im planning to get another supergiant game after i get tired of hades, which one is the high fantasy one
theres a high fantasy one right
Pyre
lit
thanks
2d games are awesome, hades will never look bad no matter how much time passes and from what ive seen from the other games theyll hold up too
3d games get so much money poured into them but they dont hold up with the passage of time
No polygon count is high enough to accidentally reach an art direction...
how bout u spend some of that budget letting ur employees take breaks
Transistor is agreeing to that
supergiant games is the best because they care about everyone involved and their staff
indeed, the feedback from the community shapes their games
Take care of people and listen to your customers and they make good stuff? WHO KNEW!
glares at Blizzard
how do I personally thank the devs for their amazing work? this isn't a joke i actually want to make sure they know how much i appreciate their writing and art and design and practices
i really do too tbh where could we :3
since i wrote out like a paragraph a month ago but idk if they saw it
@ them
i dare you
all their @ 's are in #readme-first
they shouldn't be annoye
d
i dont like the sounds of that tho
and i think greg saw the one i did a while back i just wanna make sure the rest of the team saw it

i have a short twine game on my itch and then an itch for a demo i acted as creative lead on for my uni's game dev club. always been more on the narrative side of things.
thats cool! ive been messing around with this concept for like 3 years and ive only now started doing the concept art :3
and im taking a game dev class and im in my sophomore year so supergiant is such a good company to look at for design philosophies and writing
I'm going to a game dev school, and the profs regularly mention various SG stuff during classes
Im just gonna say i love everyone at supergiant games and I regularly shill them to my friends til theyre sick of it
Just in case one of them pops in here again so they can read this π
wanna link it in #self-promotion if you're comfortable, i need more games to play and i'd like to play them.
I wonder, what genre next game will be
isometric rpg
Heh, I'd want something that is party-based with turn-based battle system (cross between Transistor and Pyre in a way?), but that's just my inner jRPG fan talking π
I would love an open world game like botw
Same inner JRPG fan hopes....
id be down for a horror game
I want supergiant to experiment every now and again. we know they can make 4 great isometric rpgs. what if we had a first person shooter horror game?
I'd be curious to be proven wrong but both their trademark aural and visual styles seem like an odd fit for a horror game, I'll say. Again, curious to see whatever.
horror games also don't do well with complex music which is darren's job. if he doesn't have a job for a whole game cycle that would be not epic.
Metroidvania is like best what they can choose, i will keep repeating it heh
"Horror" doesn't always need to be minimal or subtle, though. Arguably both DOOM and Hollow Knight have horror elements, but rely on very different presentation. I'd be down with a stab at a surreal/daylight horror affair from SG
That's weird because i find a lot horror games have some of the best video game music ever π
i dont see why they cant be complex
I,too want to be spooked by darren
also horror doesn't necessarily mean a five nights at freddy's or Outlast kind of game
little nightmares and Limbo were of the horror genre right
inside
that too
Hm, I wouldn't count Hollow Knight, Limbo or Inside as horror games, although they certainly have horror elements in their visuals (can't speak for the other ones I'm not familiar with). Of course genre definition can be very personal - I wouldn't count as a RPG half the things are billed as such either, so, whatever.
A very large part of it is their own engine that they were improving for last ten years. I doubt they will drop it any time soon, so isometric perspective is most likely here to stay
Some sort of metroidvania actually could work. I haven't seen one done in isometric perspective yet, could be interesting
And horror games just clash with their usual style way too much in all directions
i mean im curious what they could do tho since they land atmosphere so well in every game
and good horror is good atmosphere
could be subtle horror, look at metroid fusion. supergiant metroidvania with fusion-esque unsettling elements lmao
Also I'd say that horror games would limit their audience way too much. A lot of people, myself included, just can't play horror games at all
true
Not limiting as "I don't like this type of games so I won't play it", as other games can be for other people, but limiting as "I already have anxiety and insomnia, I don't need any more of it, make it stop make it stop make it stop"
and i mean tbh transistor was a tad unsettling when you actually think about things and look into the lore
true, but transistor's a far cry from horror
Bastion is literally postapocalypsis, so it is unsettling as well, but nobody would call it horror
I think people associate the concept of "horror" too much with the blatantly obvious, such as monsters, gore, and the like. things that are psychological can be horror too, without falling into the standard horror tropes. I don't really see supergiant going to either route in the first place but I think there is too specific of an idea of what is horror and what isnt
nodoom3
after watching playthroughs of inside and limbo, i'm of the opinion that they're both horror. it's not really about the jumpscares, it's about the atmosphere. and the atmosphere is....uncomfortable
yes, that's the subgenre of horror I would love to see the sgg spin on it
not the subgenre of "and now, you must be scared. BOO"
i'll admit that even portal's atmosphere made me uncomfortable enough to turn the volume off while playing, and portal's not even a horror game. so i'm not sure i'd be into even a ssg horror lol
What if there was a remake of Bastion?
hey, not bad tbh, they can just reuse the assets and clean them, release them for nextgen and send in an update to the PC version
experience what started everything for sgg
I honestly think sgg could pull off psychological horror quite well
Aggy in collusion with Caitlin.
Especially with how well they pull off theme and atmosphere
Me, not at all π
I mean if you are a good action writer doesnt mean you can write a good horror
Hey guys, so uhhh are Supergiant Games' Games coded in C#?
and use Lua? Any info would help π
The gameplay scripting is in Lua. I don't recall for the engine, though I want to say it's either C or C++
Sweet! Thank you
Sure thing ^.^
Hi everyone, there's a new interview with Darren:
https://echoesanddust.com/2021/02/a-conversation-with-hades-composer-and-audio-director-darren-korb/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=postfity&utm_content=postfity21326
im the james charles guy now
oo thank you for sharing!
if @stuck rivet could see you rn π
Interviewers: βSo you do... all the audio things?β
Darren: βoh, for sure. All the things. Iβm secretly a set of quints who share a love of audio and mutton chops. Thatβs why the dialogue between Skelly and Zag is so good!β
Bought all the games to treat myself, I guess the best playing order is release order?
Ie Bastion Transistor Pyre
That's what I did, and I enjoyed it like that
It was cool seeing how certain aspects developed, while others kept the same core but with a smoother design
and sometimes can help you understand certain mechanics, like powercast how upgrades and difficulty increasers work (like Heat in Hades, but they're there for the people who wants a challenge)
Definitely release order if you're planning to get through them all!
I am!
I've been through Hades already
Oh yeah I mean, through the ones you've bought now π if someone wants to make a selection there are options to consider, but if one wants to go through their (remaining) SGG catalogue, release order best order!
Agreed
I have thoughts about the progression of these three games' endings specifically - that's a spoilery talk for another day obviously, but I really think it's neat
ron.
pretty sure it's pyre. you usually put it at the end of a sarcastic or just straight up stupid sentence around here.
yup, it's Pyre
i just looked at the official art and it looked like rons face was photoshopped onto mr. mcguffin from gravity falls
it looks like a proxywordpost
ah yes ron the best merchant in the WORLD
he sells you the good proxyword
And even at a 5% discount!
I have a free idea for Supergiant Games
Feel free to use it if you want, no need to credit me or anything
Basically, a high fantasy RPG with dashes of sci-fi sprinkled in
Like, people fight with swords and shields, but occasionally there's robots or higher technology
like a reverse shadowrun? that would be cool
me over here thinking of transistor but being more fantasy
Basically imagine Lord of the Rings
Or Wheel of Time
Any high fantasy
And then insert a dash of sci-fi elements
shadowrunβs a cyberpunk with a dash of fantasy elements. honestly, either way would be amazing to see
Hades is being nominated in the BAFTA awards for Narrative, Artistic Achievement, Best game, Game design, Music , Original Property, EE game of the year
Oh and Logan is nominated for his supportive role too
And you can vote here for EE game of the year: https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/baftagames/goty-2021-nominees
might need an edit on that schpoon
oh no there wasnt anything wrong with it lmao your names got wonky
Highkey befuddled that Darren's not being nominated for any awards. He only voices two characters to Logan's 4.5 (Charon's kinda...), but Logan keeps getting nom'd specifically for Hades (as he should) while I think Zag absolutely should be getting more props.
||you saw nothing||
hehe
so yeah
transitors gameplay is just so good to me because it has only around like 20 weapons or something, but in reality like 60 upgrades
Yes, exactly!
@lusty girder I'm late here but it sounds like you could find what you're looking for in a lot of JRPGs
anyway, yes, the possibilities in Transistor are nigh-endless
someone should do the calcualtions of a fully ||recursed|| setup and the amount of combos you can make
i feel the need to take transitors function stackking and put it in a rougleike
I mean, give SGG a few more games to experiment with... π
You never know what they'll carry over and remix next time.
I'mma be selfish and admit that I hope they don't do a roguelike next time? Denounce me as necessary π
same
Roguelites are really fun, but so are other games.
I'm just extremely bad at roguelikes and it's prevented me from being able to fully enjoy Hades like I did their previous games
theyve done a kinda different genre each game so i hope they continue with that trend
oh thats not fun
Bastion was really challenging, but I powered through it because I loved everything that it was, and it felt like an accomplishment to beat it.
Transistor, I vibed with that gameplay design. I love being able to pause and assess my next move and then execute it, bam.
stoppin then ZOOMIN
And Pyre took me until almost the end of my first playthrough to figure out how the heck to play wizard basketball WITH FIRE, but it has a forgiving design that way, so it didn't impact my enjoyment too much
