So I was reading the faq for loa and had a few questions:

1. Is heavenly link triggered when either Stellar shift happens or with the 16s cooldown? Like are these separate? If they are separate, does triggering heavenly shift during stellar shift still means there’s a 16s cooldown?
2. Is the 16s cooldown separate for each teammate?
3. What does the “an additional second link…” part mean?

1. it's triggered on both.

The 16s CD isn't directly tied to heavenly link. Think of it the other way around. Every 16s, support QTEs are refreshed to let you trigger 2 separate effects:

• ARI regen
• heavenly link

As for the latter half of this comment, i think you need to review your terms again. Heavenly shift is simply a tag and operates passively. It is not a direct action.

Heavenly shift - tag/attribute on valks
Heavenly link - effect that occurs that deals leader based damage

2. yes. Again note the visual indicators mentioned within the guide.

3. Generally per each single stellar shift, you can get two heavenly links. However, the action of Stellar shift across valks can differ slightly. Some stellar shifts trigger two heavenly links from the shift itself. Other valks only trigger one but have an additional action later that deals the second heavenly link.

I loosely don't think of this name as anything significant. There isn't really an effect that specifically needs joint attacks of any kind as a generic trigger condition. Again loosely speaking it just relates to effects that occur as you swap valks?

you're getting something backwards here. The 16s QTE effects are triggered on the support's QTEs

so in this case of RS leader, it should be the other way around. RS does special attack to refresh PS swap CD and QTE > PS QTEs in with white halo around her swap icon > PS triggers link and gains 16 ARI

But QTEing into RS who is the leader doesn't achieve any of that.

The 16s cd effect that gives ARI and also triggers Link is only when you QTE into a support. Not the leader.

Heavenly Link is an effect that deals damage based on the leader. It can happen on the aforementioned support QTEs or it can happen from stellar shift super QTEs. It's partly how you may observe supports dealing a good chunk of damage in LoA, because it's really just partially from the leader. (edit: damage from the supports can still matter though. People did use JDS to basically subdps back in the day)

furthermore pity building will make you miss out on events that wants you to roll during their own event periods

there's no 50/50 in this game either so it's alot more consistent to plan around

assuming you really do have hohe dkey, and the leader skill is 3/3 here, this technically isn't wrong but it seems like you're putting together a bunch of valks that have the same ring type. keep in mind there are others that can work even if they don't have the ring type. When looking at supports, it's about tags.

so let me give you a quick example. Look at senadina

She doesn't have wheel of destiny ring type.
But she still fits in this team in supporting Rita.

it's a bit debatable but i rather you cut your losses especially on older valkyries so you can better focus on newer ones

especially lantern. She's so old and wasn't great on release that you won't get much use out of catching up on her weapon now. At this point you may want to catch up on these weapons with other non crystal means such as paid battle pass if you're fine with spending for it.

so a signature weapon generally provides:

• 30-40% personal damage as opposed to their next best alternative. This is too big to lose out on when competing against other players who have it. It is a meta norm
• in some cases the weapon may have important utility. This utility can be important in specific cases or for the valk's gameplay flow

but if you already missed their weapons at this point i encourage you to just use them the best you can in other areas where their damage or utilities aren't as needed. This generally means as a support assuming they don't lose their gameplay flow

you do want coverage across your roster but alot of players tends to hyper focus on it in a bad way

coverage is important because abyss cycles across many scenarios, where each partially emphasizes a particular dps

the coverage you get can naturally come together as you just focus simply on newest releases. A majority of the abyss cycles in a patch is more suitable to that latest release.

but also the game has found more ways to emphasize something than just damage typings

Sushang is not as old but still a past release so you're not getting 100% mileage on her from catching up now. Also some of her scenarios are only hard gated by hitcount or bleed status which you can already get past from just having her as a support. Her weapon isn't important for her utility either.

if you're f2p or low spending, beware your crystals are limited and we encourage the latest releases to make the full use of them

gacha astral ring valks tend to have multiple tags too, so as long as you get enough valks in the long run, you'll get enough tags to use in all sorts of teams

in rare cases a specific valk can be very important but these are just niches. We don't expect you to succeed in every scenario. Skipping some releases is kind of inevitable at max f2p income, but we aim to succeed in most of them to stay aflot in higher abyss

You should be spending effort on VBM no matter who you get as she is a generic filler for any modern team. Try to get SSS as fast as possible, you can save a bit on her stigma if you are low on source prisms but her weapon is free.
VBS is overall pretty questionable at this point as she only saw use on Sena's old team which Sena no longer uses.

you shouldn't be expecting to in the first place. For future reference for any other new release if you can't save up enough to guarantee valk AND weapon early in the patch, you may consider skipping altogether.

If you're very new/undeveloped then rolling later in the patch before the banner goes away is fine as long as you can still plan to get both, preferably after beta info for the patch afterwards is known and you're not interested.

Income is higher, patches are longer, cost per each valk+weap are lower, and there's no 50/50 so compared to other games, this game can be more realistic to plan around in the long term.

back in the old days you would make a team centered on a damage type.

e.g. a physical team will have 1 phys dps and 2 phys supports

but this isn't really the case now.

we still have one dps and two supports, but supports cover all damage types now. Damage from the team depends mainly from the leader (the leader is always the dps now)

and the way the team is put together depends on their new astral ring properties. Every new valk now has ring types and tags. Each specific ring type matches with a specific tag.
To put it very simply:
Ring types: Look at this if the valk is leader
Tags: Look at these if the valk is support

Characters under the Astral Ring System will have one ring type (Specialization), and one or multiple tags (Attributes) that will determine how they can form teams. This system is only activated if a character with Astral Ring is set as the leader. The leader's ring type will decide the team's playstyle. When the Astral Ring system is activated, the team will benefit from effects specific to Astral Ring. The team will also gain access to Stellar Outburst, which is a high damage output state you can enter after charging enough energy (Astral Ring Intensity).

So Miss Espionage (Rita)'s ring type is Wheel of Destiny. You can go to the valk menu and click the big blue square icon to see this, and also see what tag it specifically matches with.

Wheel of Destiny ring type matches with the tag of Harmonized Shadow Star. In very basic terms, this is what you want your supports to have when supporting Rita.

Alot of newer players think team building is just putting three of the same ring types together but doing so is unnecessarily restrictive. A valkyrie can have a matching tag even if they don't have the ring type.

As an example Reign Solaris (Durandal) is not wheel of destiny ring type, but she still has the shadow star tag. She can still support Rita. Durandal isn't lightning either. She's physical.

If anything here doesn't make sense, feel free to ask us to elaborate further. But if you've gone through the guide then hopefully it does by now.

Your current account prob doesn't have much yet to make full use of Rita but as long as you keep up with crystal income and roll appropriately, you'll eventually get something.

i'm not sure why "Make Any Team" is capitalized here but keep in mind having astral ring alone isn't good enough. There are still other restrictions and guidelines to team building. Make sure you check the ring types and also the tags of your valkyries that have astral ring.

Each kind of Ring Type/Specialization has a specific Tag/Attribute it matches with.

For the leader, you look at the ring type.
For other valks that are NOT the leader, you look at their tags.

You want the leader's ring type to match with the tags of the other valkyries on the team.

VBm Coralie has many uses since she can buff and debuff for any team (astral ring and non astral ring). Eventually in the future you'll get better stuff though. But overall she's useful enough that you can spend your non-expensive resources on her. Asterite, coins, advanced skill materials are ok. Don't waste crystals on her. Honkai shards and source prisms can be ok but only if you have extras.

basic rotation is you go vbm, wa wa, jump attack wa. There should be an orange circle with a 3 inside of it. Qte VBS, wa, hold until the line crosses the vertical bar, wa again, and then go rita to dps. When orange ring is almost gone, go VBM again, jump attack wa, go vbs again

and then repeat

if you have enough SP for VBS ult you can do that instead of waiting on the full WA, usually you want to do that right before SO tho

Should I Pull AstralOps?

NOO CAPTAIN!

If you are a f2p meta player, you should not pull gacha AstralOps - only players who are retaining or trying to retain Nirvana should consider it if they have the funds (unlikely for f2p players).

Reasons:

• Dreamseeker is good enough despite being free.
• Too expensive, especially if they need SS (~20-30k).
  • AstralOps have the same cost as a gacha weapon, therefore pulling one may result in being unable to afford a Valkyrie's weapon down the line (for meta players, this means skipping said Valkyrie entirely).
• The damage and score increase they provide in Redlotus and below is often minimal and not needed to retain.

BENEFITS

• Harder to forget your login, you have to lose your Steam account to lose your HI3 account. It is still very possible to lose your Steam account, but as long as you have access to your Steam account you have your HI3 account.
• You can use your Steam wallet to top up.
• Steam tracks your hours played (some custom launchers do this too for those with Hoyoverse accounts.)

For many captains the lack of Hoyoverse account features and lack of crossplay is a dealbreaker, but it's up to you how you plan on playing!

I can't really recall having one purely for valk frags per dupe

Though regarding your question of it's better to get coralie from p2 story or the asterite shop first, it's technically better to get her from p2 story first and then buy her frags because the amount of frags you can buy stays the same but the value of the character card goes from 30-> 18 frags, though the difference is extremely negligible the difference is a maximum of 1 week maybe even less with open world frags etc

Generally speaking it's fine to trash these if they're dupes and if you actually need the source prisms.

Review the effects of each of them. Generally a prism stigmata has a short generic line but then additional effects hyperspecific for its intended battlesuit.

in very rare or budget cases, maybe you can appreciate a dupe.

• Maybe you have nothing better and can still appreciate the single generic line on someone else
• You may even want a dupe on the same user for different scenarios
  • in some situations you need different affixes but don't mind the damage loss from using a non upgraded dupe
  • or maybe you need to do less damage (some effects need to hit but doing more damage may cause you to end the phase early)
    Just make sure to not spend extra prisms upgrading a dupe.

Source Prisms are a very limited resource, so please be very careful not to waste them. They are used to upgrade and craft Part 2 Stigmata (all Part 2 Stigmata are forgeable).

keep in mind prism stigmata are craftable at worst. It's just prism wise, it's inefficient to trash then to craft the same thing. (1 gain > 2 cost)

so if you don't urgently need the prisms, then i advise you to hold the stigs for the aforementioned cases, but it's very very rare for them to show up really

Keep in mind the only exclusive thing in equipment banner nowadays is the weapon. So don't worry about the stigs when it comes to spending crystals.

A valk at worst is guaranteed at 90 pulls. First ten pull in a patch for a new valk banner is usually half discounted (2800 > 1400 cost) so you can more think of this as 85 pulls worth.

A single weapon at worst is 60 pulls.

Each pull costs 280 crystals (or a blue/pink card)

You're looking at one valk, and two weapons overall so you can math from there. (85+60+60)*280

Sorry to not give you a quick answer but you should be familiar with the numbers in this game and not be distorted by their conversions.

To answer the last part of your question, if you absolutely decide you're going to restart and only care about the next new valk...

• waiting until her release and then rerolling to bruteforce your luck in getting her early is probably best but bear in mind there's no guarantee to this, and redoing the tutorial can be arduous (15 minutes minimum?). You're roughly saving on 24000 (slightly less than this) crystals doing this compared to getting it worst case normally. For more details check the rerolling guide in the pins.
• Maybe rerolling isn't your cup of tea. Starting a new account now will let you prepare the needed crystals ahead of time for worst case scenarios and additional resources you may need (especially honkai shards and source prisms for her equipment). Compared to the previous option, you also can get some limited time crystals in that time that a later reroll will miss out on, but this prob won't add up to 24000 at worst case.

You already have a roster of astral ring valks. New accounts especially struggle early on because astral ring team building really needs at least 2 but ideally 3 valks that matches with each other to start forming properly functioning teams. Granted...

• If your sole focus is the next new valk then... ||she's known to be Grail of Infinitude ring type. If used as a leader she'll want symbiosis supports which nobody on your roster has. • Alot of your roster are more old from the earlier times of part 2 and not as top relevant to the latest meta. Still, the dropoff especially as support roles isn't too large and they are still very viable to use in the meantime. Just don't expect their top dps scenarios to show up too often in abyss. You can still use them to handle other scenarios decently but beware of competing against actual best options at that point.

Sorry one more thing to add to considering starting a new account now rather than later:

• ||currently we can get a free lunar vow this patch, and she will get a divine key next patch giving her astral ring properties. These do include tags that matches with the new Mei iirc. A rerolled account on mei patch will miss this free luna valk. However beware getting that divine key will still need another 60 rolls at worst or ~17k crystals (slightly below this)||

I suppose you can consider that if your main focus is getting ||symbiosis|| supports. From there you'll further consider if you want to get the weapon or not. Weapons are generally non-negotiable for meta performance:

• 30-40% of the valk personal damage (||However PS being a rerun means her dps scenarios aren't as common anymore||)
• some valks have specific utility only from their weapons that can be important for niches or even their general gameplay flow. ||in the case of PS, i do not recognize any important functions from it||
  so overall ||you may consider rerolling PS valk only for support purposes. As a support she'll provide bleed and hitcount utility too||

ideally when it comes to anything concerning crystals, you want to focus on getting 100% mileage in the long run which generally means getting them when they are new. If you don't opt to get ||PS, then you can prob expect to get a symbiosis support down the line sooner or later from another new release, but obviously i can't guarantee anything here||

being able to ||reroll for PS to also achieve LV this patch|| to prepare for next patch sooner is still valid. It's not uncommon for prioritizing short term benefits while sacificing some ideal long term benefits in this game as long as you're fully aware.

actually there's a few other things i would want to mention when it comes to getting LV as a newer player

• ||a divine key is +10 attack to all valks on your account passively. These sort of bonuses do accumulate to matter at the highest tiers of the game (high RL, or nirvana). That said, 60 rolls for just this isn't f2p friendly nor recommended||
• ||LV will be Grail dps, but also has support tags for other Grail dps, or for LoA dps||
  • beware that LV is an old valk at this point. Even on her best scenario, you'll be competing against other veterans with ranked LVs
• from history the best use case benefits of a ||divine key AR valk is generally more short term or more niche. A fresh account will prob still appreciate LV's roles very decently for the long term still, but i wouldn't be surprised to see her not be as top useful after a few patches||

the upcoming new valks are still early in beta btw so there might be more things known about them later after some beta revisions and when beta players play tested them more

• ||the dkey banner will expire earlier in the patch so you'll want to prioritize this first||
• ||this further reduces priority on Sushang's weapon since LV will prob keep her bleed traits and can be used to handle bleed weather Vill-V for example instead. Ofc bear in mind of her lacking ranks||

hm you might have to dig pretty far for this and idk if it goes that far but

you can try main menu > phone (bottom right) > support (opens browser) > self search > crystals

and go all the way back to the end of the year to see if there's been any crystal changes that matches up with what you should've got

my pin says 1200 crystals here. I assume it's per box so look for something like 1200 or 3600.
