something i've been curious about, i understand backpulling isnt the best idea but after learning about the astral ring system and how those buffs work would you not want to backpull a bit?

to gain units that fit and buff your lead's specialization

like the rita i have now would want harmonized shadow star teammates for her stellar outburst, but i have none of those

loosely speaking, newer valks can eventually fulfill those roles, or your rita can fulfill supporting roles to newer dps

the cost between pulling a new valk and an older one isn't really different otherwise, while the newer valks will have more relevance and more likely more longevity

theoretically, it's entirely possible two successive new releases don't relate to each other at all of course but that can be more assessed on a case by case basis

in some rare cases, you may find opportunity to pick up older releases with non-crystal means too

there can be rare individual cases where backpulling can be more argued and tolerated. Maybe you just really like that old past valk, or maybe that valk was released only previous patch so the losses aren't as great (but still arguably worse nonetheless), or maybe you're a more urgent player with shorter term goals

keep in mind generally new gacha releases have two or more tags so every valk is pretty multipurpose

as more and more ring types get added to the game the possibility of incompatibility will increase but for now, usually getting enough p2 valks can lead to multiple teams

i definitely had ran into one or two cases where i found backpulling valid for earlier players. Partly because they didn't want to wait for the next new release to get into the meat of the game. They understood the trade offs and inefficiencies.

but yeah value wise, it's difficult to justify. Even valkyries that are the current best in a common support role are difficult to consider backpulling (e.g. breach valks like vita/fdd coralie one patch after their initial release)

reason being, even the best of the best aren't often the best by very much

• backpulling means more income needed to keep affording valks, since the new valks can be any ring, if it the rings dont match then youll catch yourself in a loop where you think you need to backpull more and that "it wouldnt hurt to try" its rare to find a situation of a non beginner with a lot of income that can afford a new valk and still backpull without sinking in future income
• this game have massive fomo, dont fall for it
• new players do have access to rerolling if they want a bit of a better start
• new players would be dealing with an easier verison of the endgame so its more about learning the game and gaining skills over having the bis team rn

obv non meta players do have some leeway on who they pick but asking is still good to understand the cost

usually the rerolling is done on a new release, but if the player wants to start asap and we're in the last weeks of a patch where the new release isn't around, i guess they can consider it on a recent rerun or rerun of interest

also not too related, massive whales getting into the game can consider reruns all they want ofc. Alot of the basis of rejecting backpulling is opportunity costs of your crystals, but unlimited crystals removes that concern.

vita needs a lot of time to get to her ultimate

jds technically only needs qte to trigger her buffs, but that also applies to other valks beside her

hle for example only needs WA or QTE, the ult is for drain

Anyway, you start with immediately doing WA > Ult with HLE.
Then wait for the bull to spawn and time Vita's Enhanced WA so your combo bar is full, CA > Ult.
QTE Rita > WA > Ult > CA.
Do basics until the shadow star attacks show up, do them asap.
Some more basics should kill Bull.
After charging into the rocks, bull will spawn a ton of balls in the air, try to kill them with Vita Enhanced WA > Ult and HLE QTE. Do Rita QTE as soon as the balls are gone.
Then Stellar Outburst. You'll have to find out on your own which moves to skip or not based on your own damage. Just make sure you do the finisher a bit before the execution threshold, so the final hit actually kills.

If you love Elysia obviously it’s not the end of the world tho, she’s still reasonably new

Divine Key and Swimsuit are both really strong if you can get them set up but that requires some rng, so in the mid game you stack other buffs while waiting to be able to reach the next threshold. Haxxor bunny leader can also do some nonsense. I’ve found romantic Walz to be reliable but fairly weak lategame; decent if you want to claw out a reliable second or third, bad for going the distance to first

Hm i'm not seeing much information about the schedule this patch, esp not about if HLE will rerun this patch. However we usually do expect reruns within the next few patches after release.

Generally speaking pulling reruns (backpulling) isn't really recommended to do if you're trying to be meta efficient but since you already pulled HLE weapon and she's still recent, you may consider it.

Before going any further, what kind of personal goals do you have with this game?

by default we give meta advice because doing better in abyss against other players gives you more crystals. As f2p it's realistic to aim for the semi highest tier.

but obviously meta isn't everything, and if you don't mind having lower crystal income to focus more on other things, that's fine too and we can adjust

In the future, please be mindful of your crystal income and the remaining time for any banner of interest. Crystals are limited if you're not spending money. Signature weapons and their intended users are very important to get together.

The total cost of this can be up to 40k crystals (~145 rolls). It's recommended you plan for the worst outcome to ensure not winding up with something partial.

If you cannot afford it, it would be better to skip, let any pity carry over so you can better ensure valk+weap on the next new release

if you're just collecting then only getting characters is fine. Just beware signature weapons often have:

• 30-40% of the character's personal dps damage
• in some cases they may have important utility for the valk's gameplay flow (HLE wants hers for SP restoration on weapon active, because her playstyle is using sp to constantly cast ults)

normally if we were focusing on the meta, i would tell you to focus only on new releases, but we can tone that down since you're not

there's some barebone teams and equipment to consider from the first link here. These are just temporary teams to use until you get more from the gacha. Bringing this up now in case Sushang doesn't work out

but since sushang is your only gacha astral ring valkyrie, she's prob your best bet otherwise even though she doesn't have her weapon

For sushang, give her your highest atk glove for now. It's possibly Nebulous Duality or Nocturnal Sheath from beginner rewards/events. If you don't have those, then we can discuss more.

I don't recommend upgrading them to max (just give them exp to 35/35 is enough for now) since these are just temporary weapons and they are going to want honkai shards, that are costly early on and better used on your HLE weapon for later, or other gacha only weapons you pick up in the future, if any.

For teammates, you'll probably use VBm Coralie and RC Reverist Calico (Pardofelis)
(for future abbreviations, check glossary in the pins)

oh i guess you can consider TA (Terminal Aide, prometheus) rather than RC

keep in mind this PS Sushang deals bleed phys damage. Normally phys damage is the only thing that can crit in this game (elementals do not), but bleed damage doesn't crit either.

so marco M which buffs crit damage, is quite useless for PS

F4: 13 per entry ticket + 0.6500 per 1 TSP
F5: 15 per entry ticket + 0.6666 per 1 TSP
F6: 15 per entry ticket + 0.6700 per 1 TSP - (best efficiency!)
F7: 15 per entry ticket + 0.6600 per 1 TSP

If not using Time Swirl Passes (TSP), F5/6/7 are equal in efficiency.

there's two options here. One is to craft sushang's stuff but you don't have her weapon. You will observe a large improvement with her stigs but it'll still be behind the competition and standards since the weapon is important.

Furthermore if we do get news of HLE returning, you won't have enough for her.

You prob already have all of HLE's stigs as is from going after her weapon, but you still need 7 per stig to upgrade it to max (1>2>4)

so for a full stig set without crafting, it takes 21 to max out

i recommend holding for now since HLE is the main goal it seems for now

but just keep in mind it's an option if you're in a desperate pinch and don't mind taking more time to build HLE later

For supports, if you're using TA then give her Theresa Origins 3pc (foundry craftable). I'm assuming the 3pc will buff sushang's full meter attack. Give TA your next best glove i suppose. Maybe something with a cheap weapon active to use for her stig effects

if you use weapon active on vita, it prompts you to mash basic

basic goes in four stages

the sequence is mostly identical to mashing without weapon active

but the last part becomes a bit different if this is coming from an weapon active

this difference isn't just for show. It does a few things

you can kinda think of it as an upgraded version of the usual version

hence enhanced

in the case of LoA teams it's how you get stellar drain

but otherwise it can be damage, sp, meter, vita's own abyssal energy stacks

for other ring types, the full meter is how you access vita's stellar drain

honestly we're kinda digressing but stellar drains are such a basic mechanic that it's important to know what attacks are triggering them

you don't always want to do them, and for a WoD team, other valks can trigger someone's stellar drain instead of themselves

but vita is a bit special. The first time in the match before the first outburst, she restores more than normal with her own drain (weapon effect)

she also has abyssal energy stacks that increases her drain regen a bit but this isn't as important

Rita basically triggers her outburst finisher from her outburst ult into weapon active. That's also where her execution on low hp img enemies is iirc.

So you may consider delaying her ultimate or using it sooner so it comes back sooner.

You may opt to cast the second phantom early and not fully committing the usual outburst sequence depending on how much of it you need.

vita can prob start weapon active seq a little sooner. use the timer at the top left as a cue for this

you didn't weapon active on HLE so her ult holding costed time. The weapon active itself costed time too but it also does deal damage so this is a bit arguable either way.

• in this case, HLE has already buffed from the QTE so not doing weapon active is fine. i do wonder though if HLE can toggle off her QTE here and use weapon active to buff and then benefit from the time stop ult afterwards

at 0:20 your phantom from surplus state was available but you didn't make use of it. I thought you were saving it for something but it just was never used. No idea if it wasn't worth or so.

• i guess hieu le didn't use it and you should have more damage than them from being in agony tier

If you wanted to ult sooner, you can evade better in transition. Any ult evade you do (evade timely on enemy attack) restores 2 team sp and 1 ari

But it seems your overall issue is doing a bit more damage actually. Your ult was just barely off on executing the enemy's last bar of hp. (flashing red hp bar means it's ready for execution attacks)

tbh i have a lot of thoughts i want to play with. One of them being do you have other supports? Vita takes alot of time in general.

HLE also needs an enemy to hit to buff.

I don't know how important your buffs from surplus state are. I feel maybe you can even purposely skip HLE's stellar drain (she already buffed by QTE hitting) and just go straight to Rita, and get the stellar drain later with rita instead (in WoD teams, drains are shared across shadow star valks)

but otherwise the biggest red flags to me are possibly slow teammates (although damage might still be worth it) and just having a weird transition

if you wind up with excess damage, then make sure to evade off of transition for sp so you can ult sooner at the end

• all recent gacha valks can be a dps or a support. They are multipurpose depending on how the yare placed on the team. This is because of how astral ring works
• the general goal when we give advice here is to do well enough in abyss (q-manifold and later on superstring dimension) because they are a major source of crystals
  • abyss rotates constantly across many scenarios so you need many teams
  • you eventually compete against other players (superstring)
  • the main way to do well is to save crystals and aim only for new releases. Valkyrie and her signature weapon together. (~40k crystals at worst or 145 rolls). If you cannot expect this, then just skip and save more towards a different future releases
  • avoid reruns because those may not last as long or see as much use, so you won't get as much value out of your crystals spent

thelema is overall a dps with wheel of destiny ring type, mech typing, ice element. There are specific cycles that cater to this specific combination and we do have one upcoming (raven) but this is only one scenario out of many. We don't expect too much left from her overall with how old she is

support wise, thelema is mainly used for her speed when damage is plenty. She does have utility like freeze, shield break, and ARI farming but these are not always emphasized, and may be redundant with others (HLE can also freeze while supporting similar teams)

what are the ways I should go about getting honkai shards? I considered the 50 ae imaginon trade but i'm not sure if that's a horrible idea since those might be too valuable to use like that.

Imaginon basically does nothing else then that trade so it is fine, it is used for some cases in foundry but it is low value.
Events sometimes give them and there are some longer term refills but the main source is trading with AE.

What do you have on your current account?

You generally want to enter anniversary with a decent amount of crystals backlogged so that you actually can use the spending event for something. It would also not be pretty close to standard procedure if they released a new d key to give to a old valk which you could get for free and LV is kind of the only candidate before next patch so I would try to get her on the account that you are going to keep to be safe.

what exactly do you mean by new characters ? she does need characters with harmonized shadow star to properly function though not all of those characters are necessarily new
