The long-spine porcupinefish (Diodon holocanthus), also known as the freckled porcupinefish, porcupine puffer, and porcupine pufferfish, is a species of marine fish in the family Diodontidae.[2]

Description

The long-spine porcupinefish is pale in color with large black blotches and smaller black spots; these spots becoming fewer in number with age. It has many long, two-rooted depressible spines particularly on its head. The teeth of the two jaws are fused into a parrot-like "beak". Adults may reach 50 cm (20 in) in length.[3] The only other fish with which it might be confused is the black-blotched porcupinefish (Diodon liturosus), but it has much longer spines than that species.[4]

Diet
The long-spine porcupine fish is an omnivore that feeds on mollusks, sea urchins, hermit crabs, snails, and crabs during its active phase at night.[5] They use their beak combined with plates on the roof of their mouths to crush their prey such as mollusks and sea urchins that would otherwise be indigestible.[6][7]

Distribution
The long-spine porcupinefish has a circumtropical distribution, being found in the tropical zones of major seas and oceans:

In the Atlantic it is found from Florida and the Bahamas to Brazil and in the Eastern Atlantic from 30°N to 23°S, as well as around South Africa.
And In the western Indian Ocean from the southern Red Sea to Madagascar, Réunion and Mauritius.
Also In the Pacific Ocean from southern Japan to Lord Howe Island, and east to the Hawaiian and Easter islands. Also from southern California to Colombia and the Galapagos Islands.[8]

Habitat

They are found over the muddy sea bottom, in estuaries, in lagoons or on coral and rocky reefs around the world in tropical and subtropical seas.[9]

Spawning

Spawns at the surface at dawn or at dusk in pairs or in groups of males with a single female; the juveniles remain pelagic until they are at least 7 cm (3 in) long.[3] Young and sub-adult fish sometimes occur in groups.

Shovelnose guitarfish / (Pseudobatos productus)

The shovelnose guitarfish (Pseudobatos productus) is a ray in the family Rhinobatidae. P. productus was first described by ichthyologist William Orville Ayre in 1854 as Rhinobatos productus,[2] with the genus derived from the Greek word rhinos, meaning nose, and the Latin word batis, meaning ray.[3] It was later placed in the genus Pseudobatos following reconsideration of many species placed in Rhinobatos.[4] As its common name suggests, this species possesses a pointed shovel-shaped snout and a body similar to that of a guitar with a larger head and long, slender body. The shovelnose is considered to be a primitively developed ray, with many features of both sharks and rays. The shovelnose guitarfish was first considered to be a shark because of its dorsal fins' shape. Fossils of P. productus ancestors have been recovered, dating back over 100 million years.[5]

Description
The coloration of this species ranges from olive to sandy brown which aids in the species' ability to camouflage in the sand.[6] Other identifying features of Pseudobatos productus include a depressed body shape with a dorsoventrally flattened opaque snout, no gap between the pectoral and pelvic fins, and protruding eyes. This species also has two dorsal fins which are closer to the posterior end of its body and caudal fin.[7] Shovelnose guitarfish have around 102 to 112 small round teeth. Sexual maturity is reached in females at an estimated age of 8 years and 7 years in males.[8]

This species exhibits sexual dimorphism in which females tend to be larger than males. Males are between 90–100 cm (35–39 in) long, while females are around 99 cm (39 in) at that age.[9] The average size of shovelnose guitarfish is still not well known as many studies have seen fluctuations in the total length they can reach. The ray can live up to 11 years, and full-grown sizes are around 120 cm (47 in) for males, and females reach 137 cm (54 in).[9] The shovelnose guitarfish may be mistaken for similar batoids such as the Atlantic guitarfish, Rhinobatos lentiginosus, and bowmouth guitarfish, Rhina ancylostoma. However these species tend to be found in different regions. The Atlantic guitarfish has similar anatomical features to that of a shovelnose but is shorter with a maximum length of about 63.5 cm (about 2.08 ft) and lives in the Atlantic Ocean.[10] The bowmouth guitarfish is found in waters of the Indo-West Pacific and has a more rounded snout than the shovelnose, and larger dorsal fins which can reach lengths up to cm (about 9.68 ft).[11]

Distribution and geographical range

Pseudobatos productus inhabits shallow estuaries and bays of the Mexican Pacific ranging from San Francisco, California to Guerrero, Mexico. Additionally, they are widely distributed in the Gulf of California. Research suggests that La Jolla, California is the preferred residency of adult shovelnose guitarfish.[12] Members of this species are not commonly found in open water and tend to remain in coastal ecosystems such as bays, estuaries as well as seagrass beds at depths of less than 40 feet. There have been sightings of shovelnose guitarfish reaching depths of up to 91 meters, but this is uncommon for the species.[7] Females migrate to southern California and Baja in spring to spawn and give birth in the early summer months. Males join them to mate soon thereafter, and they will leave the area together.[6] Studies conducted on shovelnose guitarfish in the Gulf of California and the Pacific coast of Baja California have found morphometric variations in the rays. Morphological and genetic variations occur in the mitochondrial DNA in those found in the Gulf of California, evidencing their isolation from the rest.[13] Rhinobatos productus has magnetic particles in its vestibular receptors, and the magnetic particles are believed to be exogenous in origin. The magnetic particles' spatial arrangement may aid in the sensitivity of the receptors to movements.[14]

Feeding and hunting

Shovelnose guitarfish feed on benthic invertebrates including worms, mollusks, crustaceans, cephalopods, and small fish.[16] Much of their diet consists of decapods such as crabs and shrimps.[17] As bottom-feeders, their mouth is on the underside of their body to easily capture food on the ocean floor. Smaller P. productus specimens tend to be more specialized predators, only feeding on crustaceans. Larger specimens have a more generalized diet but still maintain a diet dominated by crustaceans.[16] The diets of males and females are not significantly different; however, the larger size of females allows them to capture larger prey such as fishes and cephalopods[17]. Females mainly consume shrimp-like prey while males prefer crustaceans.[16]

When hunting, this species will use its pectoral fins to bury itself in the sand leaving only its eyes to watch the seafloor.[18] When prey is visible, the fish will quickly ambush and trap its prey beneath its body, immobilizing it while creating a suction with the mouth to chew and ingest. Shovelnose guitarfish are not efficient at capturing fast-moving prey and therefore must maintain a diet of slow-moving organisms.

P. productus plays an important ecological role in their ecosystem by being both a prey and predatory species in coastal marine areas. They consume fish and mollusks, both second-order consumers, and are prey to coastal sharks, large predatory birds and California sea lions.[17] Additionally, this species serves as a host for many tapeworms and parasitic flukes. Common parasitic and commensal species found on shovelnose guitarfish include Acanthobothrium olseni, Parachristianella monomegacantha, Rhinobatonchocotyle cyclovaginatus, Heterocotyle papillata, Spinuris lophosoma, and Norkus cladocephalus.[8]

Sexual maturity and reproductive biology

Sexual maturity is determined in males based on the development of claspers. In juvenile P. productus males, the claspers remain flaccid until the specimen reaches a length of about 45cm (about 1.48ft). At 53cm (about 1.74 ft) and above, claspers begin increase in size and calcify gradually. The testes in males also exhibit gradual growth and become embedded in the epigonal organ in mature adults. In females, sexual maturity is determined by the development of the two external-type ovaries. When females reach a length of about 60cm (about 1.97ft), the uterus begins to grow rapidly. Ovum size tends to increase with the length of the female and reaches an average of 12.7mm (about 0.5 in) in mature specimens.[21]

Female shovelnose guitarfish are aplacental viviparous and give birth to live young, but do not develop a placenta.[22] Pregnant females generally carry an average of 5 embryos at a time with a maximum of 10.[23] The size of the female will determine the size of the litter. The sex ratio of these embryos is 1:1.[24] Embryos begin their development in late March and birth occurs 4 to 5 months after from June to October. At birth, the length and weight of P. productus is on average 175mm (about 6.89 in) and 2.7 grams. The gestation period of females is about 12 months. Shovelnose guitarfish are monogamous and will only mate once a year.[21]

The regions shovelnose guitarfish females inhabit can affect their overall fecundity and reproductive parameters. Rays found on the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula appear to have a higher fecundity than those in the Gulf of California. Members of this species in the Gulf of California, however, were recorded to begin their reproductive cycle about 1–2 months earlier than in the west coast of the Baja California Peninsula. Regional geographic differences may explain this as embryonic diapause has been linked to changes in water temperature.[24]

On unofficials there is usually a rule that says when one body drops the fighting stops completely. So if you have a pack of raptors fighting say a few pachies and one patchy died. The fight is to stop and the raptors win or if the pachies kill a raptor the fight stops. Though with the spasms now it probably doesn’t count if it’s same species.
I’m sure they have it in more detail. But for officials it’s usually just people calling out if someone died

Tench / (Tinca tinca)

The tench or doctor fish (Tinca tinca) is a fresh- and brackish-water fish of the order Cypriniformes found throughout Eurasia from Western Europe including Britain and Ireland east into Asia as far as the Ob and Yenisei Rivers.[3] It is also found in Lake Baikal.[4] It normally inhabits slow-moving freshwater habitats, particularly lakes and lowland rivers.[5][6]

Ecology
The tench is most often found in still waters with a clay or muddy substrate and abundant vegetation.[12] This species is rare in clear waters across stony substrate, and is absent altogether from fast-flowing streams. It tolerates water with a low oxygen concentration,[3] being found in waters where even the carp cannot survive.[12]

Tench feed mostly at night with a preference for animals, such as chironomids, on the bottom of eutrophic waters[13] and snails and pea clams in well-vegetated waters.[12][14]

Breeding takes place in shallow water usually among aquatic plants where the sticky green eggs can be deposited.[3] Spawning usually occurs in summer,[5] and as many as 300,000 eggs may be produced.[15] Growth is rapid, and fish may reach a weight of 0.11 kg (0.25 lb) within the first year.

Morphology
Tench have a stocky, carp-like shape and olive-green skin, darker above and almost golden below. The tail fin is square in shape. The other fins are distinctly rounded in shape.[12] The mouth is rather narrow and provided at each corner with a very small barbel.[16]

Maximum size is 70 cm (28 in), though most specimens are much smaller.[17] A record fish caught in 2001 in England had a weight of 15 lb 3.4 oz (6.899 kg).[18] The eyes are small and red-orange in colour.[3] Females can reach weights of around 7 kg (15 lb), although 4 kg (8.8 lb) is considered large. Males rarely reach over 3 kg (6.5 lb).[3] Sexual dimorphism is strong, males can be recognised by having larger, more curved pelvic fins extending beyond the anus[19] and noticeable muscles around the base of these fins generally absent in females. Males also possess a very thick and flattened outer ray to the ventral fins.[16] Adult females may have a more convex ventral profile when compared with males.[17]

The tench has very small scales, which are deeply embedded in a thick skin, making it as slippery as an eel.[16] Folklore has it that this slime cured any sick fish that rubbed against it, and from this belief arose the name doctor fish.[15]

Economic significance
Tench are edible, working well in recipes that would otherwise call for carp, but are not commonly consumed.[12] They are shoaling fish that are popular quarries for coarse angling in rivers, lakes and canals.[3] Tench, particularly golden tench, are also kept as ornamental fish in ponds as they are bottom feeders that help to keep the waterways clean and healthy.[20]

Angling
Large tench may be found in gravel pits or deep, slow-moving waters with a clayey or silty bottom and copious aquatic vegetation. The best methods and bait to catch tench are float fishing and ledgering with a swim feeder using maggots, sweetcorn, pellets, bread, and worms. Fish over 1 kg (2 lb) in weight are very strong fighters when caught on a rod.[15]

@lethal nacelle I have no problems with how accurate to the games the characters look tbh. its an adaptation, you don't have to follow the source material 1:1. bella ramsey doesn't look like ellie in the game but I dont think its a big deal, because she isnt ellie in the game, she is ellie from the show. Big difference imo. my only problem is im not completely sold on it feeling like 5 years has passed because she hasn't grown physically at all, you cant really do anything about that after bella was cast for season 1 and I have no problems with season 1 ellie so i can let it slide. You make a new profile with no mods in it but same version as cobblemon, then open the cobblemon mod pack folder, go to mods folder, copy everything and then paste it into your new empty mod folder. Then you can add any mods to that new profile on curseforge instead of the cobblemon mod pack.
If its mods that are meant to go with cobblemon they should work no problem. If you want to add other mods, you may need to DL the late 2024 version of those mods for them to work with the latest version of cobblemon

Tuatara / (Sphenodon punctatus)

The tuatara (Sphenodon punctatus) is a species of reptile endemic to New Zealand. Despite its close resemblance to lizards, it is actually the only extant member of a distinct lineage, the previously highly diverse order Rhynchocephalia.[8] The name tuatara is derived from the Māori language and means "peaks on the back".[9]

The single extant species of tuatara[a] is the only surviving member of its order, which was highly diverse during the Mesozoic era.[13] Rhynchocephalians first appeared in the fossil record during the Triassic, around 240 million years ago,[14] and reached worldwide distribution and peak diversity during the Jurassic, when they represented the world's dominant group of small reptiles. Rhynchocephalians declined during the Cretaceous, with their youngest records outside New Zealand dating to the Paleocene. Their closest living relatives are squamates (lizards and snakes). Tuatara are of interest for studying the evolution of reptiles.

Tuatara are greenish brown and grey, and measure up to 80 cm (31 in) from head to tail-tip and weigh up to 1.3 kg (2.9 lb)[10] with a spiny crest along the back, especially pronounced in males. They have two rows of teeth in the upper jaw overlapping one row on the lower jaw, which is unique among living species. They are able to hear, although no external ear is present, and have unique features in their skeleton.

Tuatara are sometimes referred to as "living fossils".[8] This term is currently deprecated among paleontologists and evolutionary biologists. Although tuatara have preserved the morphological characteristics of their Mesozoic ancestors (240–230 million years ago), there is no evidence of a continuous fossil record to support the idea that the species has survived unchanged since that time.[15][13]

The species has between five and six billion base pairs of DNA sequence, nearly twice that of humans.[16]

The tuatara has been protected by law since 1895.[17][18] Tuatara, like many of New Zealand's native animals, are threatened by habitat loss and introduced predators, such as the Polynesian rat (Rattus exulans). Tuatara were extinct on the mainland, with the remaining populations confined to 32 offshore islands,[19] until the first North Island release into the heavily fenced and monitored Karori Wildlife Sanctuary (now named "Zealandia") in 2005.[20] During routine maintenance work at Zealandia in late 2008, a tuatara nest was uncovered,[21] with a hatchling found the following autumn.[22] This is thought to be the first case of tuatara successfully breeding in the wild on New Zealand's North Island in over 200 years.[21]

Species
While there is currently considered to be only one living species of tuatara, two species were previously identified: Sphenodon punctatus, or northern tuatara, and the much rarer Sphenodon guntheri, or Brothers Island tuatara, which is confined to North Brother Island in the Cook Strait.[39] The specific name punctatus is Latin for "spotted",[40] and guntheri refers to German-born British herpetologist Albert Günther.[41] A 2009 paper re-examined the genetic bases used to distinguish the two supposed species of tuatara, and concluded they represent only geographic variants, and only one species should be recognised.[12] Consequently, the northern tuatara was re-classified as Sphenodon punctatus punctatus and the Brothers Island tuatara as Sphenodon punctatus guntheri. The Brothers Island tuatara has olive brown skin with yellowish patches, while the colour of the northern tuatara ranges from olive green through grey to dark pink or brick red, often mottled, and always with white spots.[20][24][42] In addition, the Brothers Island tuatara is considerably smaller.[43] However, individuals from Brothers Island could not be distinguished from other modern and fossil samples on the basis of jaw morphology.[44]

An extinct species of Sphenodon was identified in November 1885 by William Colenso, who was sent an incomplete subfossil specimen from a local coal mine. Colenso named the new species S. diversum.[45] Fawcett and Smith (1970) consider it a synonym to the subspecies, based on a lack of distinction.[46]

Description

Tuatara are the largest reptiles in New Zealand.[47] Adult S. punctatus males measure 61 cm (24 in) in length and females 45 cm (18 in).[24] Tuatara are sexually dimorphic, males being larger.[24] The San Diego Zoo even cites a length of up to 80 cm (31 in).[48] Males weigh up to 1 kg (2.2 lb), and females up to 0.5 kg (1.1 lb).[24] Brothers Island tuatara are slightly smaller, weighing up to 660 g (1.3 lb).[43]

Their lungs have a single chamber with no bronchi.[49]

The tuatara's greenish brown colour matches its environment, and can change over its lifetime. Tuatara shed their skin at least once per year as adults,[42] and three or four times a year as juveniles. Tuatara sexes differ in more than size. The spiny crest on a tuatara's back, made of triangular, soft folds of skin, is larger in males, and can be stiffened for display. The male abdomen is narrower than the female's.[50]

Ecology
Burrowing seabirds such as petrels, prions, and shearwaters share the tuatara's island habitat during the birds' nesting seasons. The tuatara use the birds' burrows for shelter when available, or dig their own. The seabirds' guano helps to maintain invertebrate populations on which tuatara predominantly prey, including beetles, crickets, spiders, wētās, earthworms, and snails.[82] Their diets also consist of frogs, lizards, and bird's eggs and chicks.[44] Young tuatara are also occasionally cannibalised.[82] The diet of the tuatara varies seasonally, and they consume mainly fairy prions and their eggs in the summer.[83] In total darkness no feeding attempt was observed,[84] and the lowest light intensity at which an attempt to snatch a beetle was observed occurred under 0.0125 lux.[85] The eggs and young of seabirds that are seasonally available as food for tuatara may provide beneficial fatty acids.[24] Tuatara of both sexes defend territories, and will threaten and eventually bite intruders. The bite can cause serious injury.[86] Tuatara will bite when approached, and will not let go easily.[87] Female tuatara rarely exhibit parental behaviour by guarding nests on islands with high rodent populations.[88]

Tuataras are parasitised by the tuatara tick (Archaeocroton sphenodonti), a tick that directly depends on tuataras.[89] These ticks tend to be more prevalent on larger males, as they have larger home ranges than smaller and female tuatara and interact with other tuatara more in territorial displays.[90]

Distribution and threats
Tuatara were once widespread on New Zealand's main North and South Islands, where subfossil remains have been found in sand dunes, caves, and Māori middens.[106] Wiped out from the main islands before European settlement, they were long confined to 32 offshore islands free of mammals.[19] The islands are difficult to get to,[107] and are colonised by few animal species, indicating that some animals absent from these islands may have caused tuatara to disappear from the mainland. However, kiore (Polynesian rats) had recently become established on several of the islands, and tuatara were persisting, but not breeding, on these islands.[108][109] Additionally, tuatara were much rarer on the rat-inhabited islands.[109] Prior to conservation work, 25% of the distinct tuatara populations had become extinct in the past century.[5]

The recent discovery of a tuatara hatchling on the mainland indicates that attempts to re-establish a breeding population on the New Zealand mainland have had some success.[110] The total population of tuatara is estimated to be between 60,000[24] and 100,000.[111]

Climate change
Tuatara have temperature-dependent sex determination meaning that the temperature of the egg determines the sex of the animal. For tuatara, lower egg incubation temperatures lead to females while higher temperatures lead to males. Since global temperatures are increasing, climate change may be skewing the male to female ratio of tuatara. Current solutions to this potential future threat are the selective removal of adults and the incubation of eggs.[112][113]

Eradication of rats
Tuatara were removed from Stanley, Red Mercury and Cuvier Islands in 1990 and 1991, and maintained in captivity to allow Polynesian rats to be eradicated on those islands. All three populations bred in captivity, and after successful eradication of the rats, all individuals, including the new juveniles, were returned to their islands of origin. In the 1991–92 season, Little Barrier Island was found to hold only eight tuatara, which were taken into in situ captivity, where females produced 42 eggs, which were incubated at Victoria University. The resulting offspring were subsequently held in an enclosure on the island, then released into the wild in 2006 after rats were eradicated there.[114]

In the Hen and Chicken Islands, Polynesian rats were eradicated on Whatupuke in 1993, Lady Alice Island in 1994, and Coppermine Island in 1997. Following this program, juveniles have once again been seen on the latter three islands. In contrast, rats persist on Hen Island of the same group, and no juvenile tuatara have been seen there as of 2001. In the Alderman Islands, Middle Chain Island holds no tuatara, but it is considered possible for rats to swim between Middle Chain and other islands that do hold tuatara, and the rats were eradicated in 1992 to prevent this.[6] Another rodent eradication was carried out on the Rangitoto Islands east of D'Urville Island, to prepare for the release of 432 Cook Strait tuatara juveniles in 2004, which were being raised at Victoria University as of 2001.[6]

I've played both, I don't think you should get PoT if you enjoy TI a lot. It's fun with friends but honestly gets old kinda fast, the combat is pretty eh. The nice thing about it is the variety of creatures and what they do, but the combat isn't as good as TI IMHO. That being said, it's not the worst dino game and if you need that area of your brain itched you should get it, but it's like $30 I think if I'm not wrong
