I think the DEVs don't know where to go with the game. On one hand, they're following the dinosaur survival path, or on the other hand, they're focusing more on the lore with animals like the Strains and monsters like The Mother (or something like that).

The Isle is an innovative game with the theme of dinosaur survival, but I don't think that's the game's focus, and I think the developers miss out on a lot of potential by putting bizarre animals in the game.

Cause like, starvation has only ever been an issue in builds where food was bugged, and thirst has never been a real problem for any animal not going out of its way to make it a problem

Yeah 99% of survival challenges are based on pvp

Either you die to another player, or as a carnivore you can starve sometimes if you fail to find players

3.75 was pretty fun.
Was rough around the edges but tying total food to weight and having Dryo AI capable of... running away. Made sustaining just two or three Carno's rsther challenging.

For Utah back then though, it wasn't really that bad unless you were in a large group, but at that point food wasn't really an object.

The problem with disease is it's usually not mechanically interesting in games like this. You'll either randomly get sick [surprise debuffs aren't fun for anyone] or you only get sick from doing something stupid and avoidable. Then you cure the sickness by either waiting it out [annoying] or getting a resource

I do think it's a system that could be innovated on to add more depth, but it'd just be another set of "Do the thing or you die in your next fight" looking at the majority of suggestions in this discord

I think a diet system to control the type of food you'd naturally seek out, some fine tuning of food values, making smaller creatures need more food and be worth more food, and larger creatures need less food and provide less food, a way to improve the consistency of player interaction, some other general well being measuring mechanics, and a mutation/elder system that acted as a proper reflection of your survival aptitude would probably have been all they needed to make that style work.

Yes and no. For carnivores, removing ai basically sentences them to an RNG roulette on spawn, while it doesn't impact herbivores at all

There would still need to be a significant measurable difference felt during gameplay but by increasing the value of hunting juvies and smaller creatures it conversely gives those players more value than they otherwise would have.

Players want to be valued a lot of the time. So giving that additional nudge of food benefit to smaller creatures would make their deaths more rewarding to their hunters, and somewhat reduce the sense of loss on the victims end.
