#general-feedback message @prisma fern sadly people don't like an actual realistic combat system here in the isle. They would rather have a simple hit and run simulator than something innovative. The argument will be "but that will be a complete change of the combat system" but guess what people? To improve means to change things.

icy lion
#

My concern is how it will function in a server-based game. In other words, I'm concerned that it will be completely impossible in a server-based game

#

You're effectively adding sparring interactions on every bite attack in the game

limber hull
#

also the fact that it very clearly would require a buff to basically EVERY herbivore lol

icy lion
#

The animation workload would be astronomical and the risk of desync issues would explode

limber hull
#

to quote "Lack of such interaction is the reason why e.g. Stego or any Ceratops are always able to freely turn around, even when they should wrestle in direct contact. When held bitten by the neck it should have restricted movements, and it should be the only real chance to kill such well protected and armed herbivore. Attack ceratopses vulnerable back, stegos front etc."

icy lion
#

For what benefit? None, really

limber hull
#

you'd need to buff both stego and ceratopsians to account for this

#

also change every single balancing stat lol

#

the entire suggestion really ain't that simple

icy lion
#

@hollow pewter It's bugged

night obsidian
#

And putting a mathematical bleed stat on the other dinosaurs doesn't make it an actual bite to me

night obsidian
icy lion
urban flax

The only way it could work would be by redoing entirely the game in its own homemade engine

night obsidian

How is the weight a buff ?
How does it affect interactions ?
How does weight enters in the calculations of physics-based grabbing ?
What stats are physics-based grabbing even based upon ?
What does any of this actually do ?
How does it work ?

icy lion
night obsidian
urban flax

urban flax
woeful latch

trample will make maia so much better, will also help it fight troodons

#

troodons are nightmare for maia

night obsidian
#

If trample is in the game. I think that would solve the unrealistic hit and run problem for many. Because then you would be more cautious running at a much heavier animal

#

Right now we can still clip halfway into each other which also shouldn't happen

woeful latch
#

i hate that, imo whole dino should have collision, not just part of it

night obsidian
#

Maybe not the tip of the tail but everything else? Yes

woeful latch
#

i’m fine if the tail doesn’t have collision, or like head, but the body itself should have it

urban flax
#

They're merely using capsules for dinosaur collision boxes
Probably for performance reasons
But capsules don't work well on non-humanoids

  1. Jousting sprinting by each other with 70km/h and trying to "snap" each other when passing by would be a suicide. Doing no harm to the victim and breaking your neck. And this is 70% of the whole carnivores combat in "The Isle" right now.
#

Need to slow down and position before the bite, but making such bite strong, would add another layer to the combat.

woven bane
prisma fern
# lament mango It is interesting, yes.

When carnivores have this crazy ability to "bite" anyone, at any body part, at any angle, at any speed (which is all absolutely impossible IRL) - devs were forced to make their bites relatively weak to maintain proper balance.

sick gale
woven bane
prisma fern
#

Making bite possible only at certain position, speed, body part, angle, but strong and impactfull - would make combat more skill-based, requiring more tactics, thinking.

woeful latch

1-2 herreras can easily control any of the ponds on the map, it shouldn’t be like that. there should be a way if you spotted herrera to shake it off the tree

it’s not even about that.

again, for the player that knows the map the deino is just an annoying playable because of which you need to go to safe spots.

same with the herrera, it’s just a camper, which makes any interactions lame, you see a herrera you just leave that spot and find another water source.

herrera is not a threat at all for good players, it’s just an annoying rat

woeful latch

and i don’t like both playables for that, successful hunt for herrera and deino doesn’t really depend on skill, but rather on stupidness of other players

-36% while the deino was sprint swimming (safe spot)
-93% while the deino was slow swimming (safe spot)

#general-feedback message @gloomy reef

dilo venom clones sometimes worthless and doing no damage to your target

being able to deal damage for free after 1-2 bites from a mile away

actually damaging clones being impossible to counter unless they launch themselves off a cliff or you’re in a high place

dilo venom randomly killing you after it’s over

TI_Trollge Never make a suggestion again /hj

#

And also venom is such a mind numbing mechanic too from the dilo pov. There’s absolutely no skill involved nor any strategy since you cannot see your own clones and you just kinda let it do all the damage by mashing r2 like an ape after landing a couple bites at night and your buddies hit once to increase the damage dealt to a target with minimal engagement

Dilo venom needs a rework imo, and at the very least it needs all of those issues addressed from an objective standpoint

woeful latch

dilo venom needs a rework for sure

Forgetting that deinos and beipis interact with each other, and will eventually also interact with austro and bary, and that all of them will interact with all of the players because they exist on land, and that herreras interact with the whole server and can be killed when they mess up, and that hypsis can still be caught and can be food for both juvies and the small troodons that were also complained about.....

#

If the point of the post was "there should only be medium-and-up-sized dinos and they should only exist on land" then maybe evrima isn't the game you're looking for

gritty heart
#

Pteranodons usually get themselves killed.

Beipis(my babies) are admittedly probably the biggest offender of ignoring people, but they work in tandem with Deino to set the basis for the aquatic environment.

Herras are probably the most egregious play style, but they definitely interact, even if it is in a strange way. Like deinos they interact by ambushing yo behind

normal shuttle
#

Herras are perfectly reachable, and so are many deinos that haven’t adulthood (their number isn’t high anyway because of the amount of cannibals around)

You can interact with just about anyone except for practically pteranodon, full adult deinos and full adult stegos

#

And so far the biggest land carnivore is 1.3t, no big deal that a fraction of the server is playing tiny tiers and also ai exists too

#

I’d appreciate more player slots, don’t get me wrong, but I do not really agree with that reasoning

Maybe deino sure but the rest are like less than 2-3

I totally agree, server slots need to go up, but those numbers you posted are a huge exaggeration lol

normal shuttle
#

And ngl saying herra is something you cannot interact with is laughable

#

They’re probably easier to catch imo than troodons and carnos

gritty heart
#

They are not even close to as easy to catch as troos. They are fast enough on the ground and can be mobile in the water, while being able to reach pretty much untouchable locations with a quick hop. The main way to counter them is boring them/hoping the herra player is unskilled and rushes you.

Imma be real, I’ve never had a situation where a troodon was even close to being dangerous.

My experience mostly comes from the west rail access lake, so there is like 1 bush in the entire area.

I spent like 1-2 hours protecting a new isle player/baby dilo from it. I think the herra got frustrated and hoped that a baby herra (which tried to attack me) had bled me and rushed me. So I fed him to a pteranodon.

Yeah, herras definitely are very player skill based. A bad herra player just feeds themself to you.

And well, as they’ve said above, creatures that frequent water might only really be kind of a problem now, but with the arrival of more semi aquatics there will be more interactions with the land roster, since deino won’t be the only one dominating and it is coincidentally the most aquatic of all the planned additions

#general-feedback message

That is NOT scientifically accurate at all 😭
I really hope people understand that The Isle isn't at all scientifically accurate in any regards, majority of design/animals are in a Jurassic Park esc, edgy scaled dinosaurs with mixed in speculative interpretation (not saying all of that is a bad thing, I love so many of the designs ❤️ )

I agree that perhaps the frill could do a bit larger- but the images shown to compare Trikes current idle and its previous instances so far within #general-feedback message are trike in stance, rarely in idle*
The image I just put is from the walking animation shown in Devblog #55

Trike definitely holds its head way higher, in most of its animations SEPERATE from the sparring stance, in which the head is pushed way lower during combat

tame jetty
oblique fable
#

You can even see it during its eating animation, the ending part of the animation moves itself back up- just like the current idle in-game currently

tame jetty
#

#general-feedback message sorry, I and many don't agree. Because colors create personality and somewhat diversity, and the the players themselves, connect and attachment to their dinosaur because it feels "their". And it's corse in life, feels unique (to maximum logic reached ofc)

Colorless and dark, brown or dark colors only, isn't that great because it just makes it feel like you playing a copy of the next dinosaur next to you. A copy of the player that enteres the serv tomorrow, and next year.

  • no colors, are absolute sad thing to look at when the island already is so vibrant and good colors. (The island isn't a dark caved colored In poop colors) so the dinosaurs with only bland colors doesn't look good in that either
oblique fable
#

I can agree on the fact that darker color animals definitely fit way nicer within the game just for immersion sake- but yeah limiting players with their choices to represent themselves and their playables isn't at all a smart idea

So long as its not neon pink like beasts of Bermuda type colors I think its fine to have a vast color choice. So long as its a bit closer to what we already see in nature.

And saying a bright red cera is unrealistic... we have bright red birds in real life, salamanders can be bright red. It just looks odd because it's on a dinosaur. Its not too far fetched from reality.

Why is it a big deal that we have colors like the current ones that are clearly normal and natural? Not like we have glowing stick fluorescent colors that would make the dinosaurs look like toys.

If the colors remain grounded and within the boundaries of speculation, why shouldn’t they exist?

especially when colorful species are more common in tropical biomes since there’s more to camouflage than being the same color as the floor, as the shadow casted by the treetops and amount of foliage on the ground already is a good enough mean to conceal oneself

Red on a nodosaur is certainly rare, and the shade isn’t much different from some examples you have shown. And besides, the point about coloration in a tropical biome stands: they are more likely there since hiding is much easier. Lions for example cannot afford bright colors (and neither can golden eagles) because they live in very open areas with no places to hide. Meanwhile rainforests are covered with dense foliage that directly obstructs vision and also light has a harder time reaching the floor, thus reducing reflection.

You can see this if you try hiding in the jungle with either skin if the ones you’ve shown. It will not look anywhere as odd if you are in the shadow and among some bushes.

#

Look at orangutans for example. They’re almost invisible in the jungle despite their size and how their hair looks when in contact with plenty of light

Just pointing out that many snakes and lizards that are completely covered with scales and have absolutely no feathers use bright green, red, blue, and yellow in their patterns. There's even specific words for mutations where an animal doesn't produce a specific pigment that they normally would (for example, anerythristic means lacking red pigment). Keep in mind that many animals have differing color vision than humans, and may not be able to see certain bright colors. For example, most mammals cannot tell the difference between red and green. This is why tigers, foxes, (and probably orangutans) are orange in an environment with not a lot of orange and a whole lotta green. It's reasonable to expect that dinosaurs could have had bright pigments that werent visible to their prey

On one hand, I understand why they don't give us these great colors, on the other hand, if anyone is gonna use them I think it would be a disadvantage on their front. So, I am all for more vibrant colors in a pinch, I guess whatever is best for the specific dinosaur, but for intensive purposes I am fine with vibrancy dinosaurs are related to birds after all, Hypsi takes advantage of that.

@wooden agate I'm sad to see the direction they're going with the colors. The first kick to the stomach came with maia, it's colors are absolutely horrible and every maia looks almost the same.
With every dinosaur looking like brown poop or even just the exact same as their neighbor. It's not fun to play the dinosaur either, because it's no 'unique experience or creature'. It's just a copy of the next person..
It gives me the ick to play, and I see how it effect all other players too being affected the same if this becomes the case for more creatures.

I hope for the sake, that the colors they add. Will be variation, like green, oranges, yellow, reds, blues ect. (They don't have to be even BRIGHT as rainbow- but them being there on the dino with their tones helps tons!) Not 1 shade only of orange or poop.

Let's hope the colors they give, is like this. There's no joy in 1 color LMAO, specially not on a bright and colorful island filled with the jungle. #general-feedback message

but you were too fast to react..

the main reason is because i dont know how any of the attacks could work with bipedal stego.

and if you add stances like maia has then it would need whole new set of animations and attacks for just juvie stage

wooden agate
#

literally just stego juvies/hatchlings walking bipedally rather than quad

#

simply adds more uniqueness to stego + lets be real stego as a whole kinda needs updated animations

#

the gallop,,,,

woeful latch
wooden agate
# woeful latch how would attack work tho? like power swing

i mean it could definitely get down on all fours for something like that, but idk if it would need to for its standard attack

or frankly give juvie stegos a different attack than powerswing and have powerswing be something they get in the large juvie section of their life

#

biped juvie steg also allows for a pretty nimble juvie stego if they decide to go that route so ideally youd be focused more on hiding rather than full on defense

woeful latch
#

i mean, ability to switch stances for juvie to be a bit faster sounds good, but i have no idea how it will be able to attack with bipedal stance

wooden agate
#

id imagine an AOE swing for juvie stegos to preform while running

keep in mind juvie stegos arent supposed to be super powerful, don mentioned a while ago that their damage curve will be indicitive of its tail spike growth

#

or like correlate to tail spike growth i guess

#

so juvie stegos a) get generally better survivability and b) arent tanks that things like dilos and omnis still struggle to take down (because of la one shot)

#

which sounds like a roundabout way to say the survivability stays the same but potato potato

woeful latch
#

bipedal juvie stego sounds so cursed to me xd

but i don’t really mind that, in fact i really want devs to give some love to stegos

wooden agate
woeful latch

radiant fable

im not asking them to find another fix like you are making it seem like, i just want dilo enjoyers to be able to play the game on live version

#

because currently they main source of damage doesnt work, which obviously is not how it is intended to be

subtle swan

#

they are adding 2 dino's

#

we are testing first without both dinos, then with only trike, and then only rex, and after that with both, and THEN if everything went smooth during the test it gets put into the live version of the game

#

which sadly is most likely a long way away :/

@radiant fable On your feedback, there's a reason the fix is in the horde test: The horde test servers are a testing environment to see if it is working properly, as well as iron out any bugs. The developers didn't put the fix there just to keep it from live branch players, but because they likely feel it may still have major issues that need to be ironed out before being moved over to live play.

#

If it works well and there aren't any major bugs, it will go to live, the same as any other fix.

You become albino when you pick the cannibal mutation
Which is not available for dinos that are already cannibals

grizzled rapids
# subtle swan only if it didnt do damage

I think the latch itself shouldnt do damage, but maybe be able to bite as well, herra bite already doesnt do much damage. I dont really see this mechanic being broken or overpowered. To me it just kinda makes sense that it would be able to do that

normal shuttle
#

@grizzled rapids the reason: balancing and game design

#

It is meant to be an ambush hunter with a gameplay and mobility unique enough to remain as it is, and not Omni 2.0
