Instead of criticism for once I've got a reason to post some positive feedback. The mechanic test has shown me some AMAZING stuff. I've only played it for a short amount of time, less than 10 hours so far, so I don't know my way around yet. Either way I'm still really happy with it so far.
Tails: Great addition. I really love how fluid it is, and how it seems to work with every animation at all times.
Sounds: Incredible. Animal sounds, footstep sounds, and especially the ambient noise, has had an extreme improvement over the current version of the game, it's really noticeable and just makes the experience much better.
Map: Perfect. It's such an improvement over what we have now. The jungles, plains, everything, it all look much better. My favorite part has to be the waterways. The rivers are great to look at for the most part. Notably rockier, shallower areas look amazing. My favorite place on the map right now (probably the only notable location I've been actually) is the waterfalls at the south end of the center river. It's really great looking, the log, the little pond, the shallow and rocky river, foliage, cliffs, paths, and passes, everything in that area is built in just the right way, and comparing to evrima before, and even legacy, it's a huge improvement. Give Jace a damn raise, this guy is a master.
Lighting and effects: Clear improvement. This sorta goes hand in hand with map because I think it adds to the map a lot, but the game looks a lot better at all times of day, very welcome improvement.
AI: So far so good. I know a lot of people have had some pretty lame or unfun experiences with AI, and I've only had three total run-ins with it. First was before any patches, playing dryo the day the mechanic test game out. I thought being set with little hunger and no diets at all was a bug and killed my dryo on a nearby boar to spawn in fixed (turns out this is either intended or still a thing) The boar couldn't hit me until it teleported slightly to the side a little and then 180'd in the same instant to one tap me. The other two were as a baby tenonto after the most recent patch as of writing this message. First was just a little run in with an adult tenonto AI at the local diet plant. It just looked at me a little and walked away. My latest was with a utah. Let me explain why this experience is the sole reason I decided to write this feedback by just telling the story.
It's the middle of the night, I'm running down a river and sniffing around. I see footprints going in or out of the river on the other bank. Wanted to check if they were teno or utah footprints. Swam over, and right as I realized that scent doesn't outline the footprint, so I had no idea what I was dealing with, I heard fast footsteps behind me, then the utah pounced out of a bush, I barely dodged it and it flew straight past me and down the hill, landing about a second or two later. During the moments I had while it was flying I found a bush and stood still. It then walked around where it last heard me a little, eventually checking the bush. It walked into me and pushed me a little, then last second I booked it and dodged the bite. I ran a little longer this time, through multiple bushes. Then I stopped dead still in one. Remembering that it likes to check where it last heard me, I Z walked a few bushes farther away. Not 5 seconds later I watched it check the bush I had originally stopped in, bark, then run away. This is exactly what I've always hoped AI could be. This is some horror game stuff and I loved it, smiling and laughing out loud a little after the experience was over. This hasn't been doctored to sound good, this is just what happened. I'm amazed and excited to see what's next for AI, amarok is killing it.
Running out of characters with nitro so I assume my rant is an essay. I'll talk about my experience with diets later. Here's this for ya.
TL;DR
Map, lighting, effects and details, and great AI, very impressed so far.
