Does anyone know if epic loot works with warfare mod by default? Or do I have to do major file editing to make that work?
@crisp rock honestly my issue has been trying to eliminate a series of 3 or 4 frametime spikes (excellent framerate periodically interrupted very briefly by terrible framerate, causing lurching)... which im now pretty sur eisnt the game itself, so chances are most of the options are fairly moot/similar in new unity, and the default is probably all you need... and thats already specified in boot.conf anyway

none that do only that
i use allTameable a lot, partly to tame stuff like seekers, but mostly just to specify that animals follow and eat logical things... pigs not eating EVERYHTING is just wrong.

Usually modpacks start out that way. But stuff like therzie and monstrum gets added, cause might as well right. Id looking into something like a valheim plus, or QoL pack and just cater it to your wants
I created a set of mods that does this. Enhanced base game QoL and refined rules while staying close to vanilla but with added details and polish. It’s intended to be ready to play and easy to use. It is balanced out of the box. And it’s modular. So, for example, if you only want inventory mods but not map mods then you can enable or disable just the parts you want via R2. (The inventory only stuff is in ZenUI + ZenSign) Press F1 in game to adjust configs.

Extra inventory slots. Crafting from chests (Valheim plus). Portal everything (I do exclusively tames and carts) and quick stacks imo

its not that they take up inventory space, its that they drop at all. that's not a feature i want or enabled.

To my knowledge there is no existing way to remove the spawn entirely
but you can use mods to make it so you dont pick them up

not normally. i have the PlantEverything mod enabled in order to be able to plant autumn birch trees (i like the aesthetic) and have pretty much everything else turned off... yet, ancient seeds still drop from ancient trees.
that and a pickup filter mod may solve your issue.

Are there any new ways to earn money with epic loot mod? Haldor occasionally asks for 15k gold for some items and I have not noticed any new ways to earn money in that mod besides the bounties, which don't give a lot. Rerolling gear is also eating away what little I had left.
Also is it recommended to use epic patches version of epic loot mod if I use creature and loot control mod as well? I am currently in plains biome and I've started to struggle brutally hard to gain any progress due to the sheer amount of starred mobs despite me using every trick and preparation I can think of.

What settings should I run epic loot on though if I also use creature level control mod? Enable the epic patches addon? I increased the default mods settings a bit but with half of all mobs having 3+ stars in plains biome and my armor and weapons being maybe 10% stronger than vanilla I am horribly struggling right now.
I wouldn't use the epic patches addon mod, its pretty outdated configs at this point.
As for creature difficulty, that is up to you. You might try turning down the difficulty in CLLC, it should be fun, not painful and that spot is different for everyone.
Riches is available on trinkets and utility items
Another thing to keep in mind is that removing a patch mod like that would require you deleting the actual patches from your epicloot config folder and removing the coreconfigs to let them get rebuilt without the patches, otherwise the effect of those patches lingers
Another thing is. Greydwarf spawners! Using the trophies and drops you can get infinite enchantment materials. Once you get riches they'll also drop gold occasionally.
Build a trap that auto kills and stand underneath it! Im about to run out soon myself honestly. So I need to find a good spot for some!
Thanks for the riches tip, I hadn't seen it on any trinkets yet and I haven't enchanted the leather belt/ring yet as I generally run the meginjord belt and you cannot enchant that one it seems. I'll kill bonemass again and try enchanting those to see if I can get that modifier.
Hopefully I can get enough money to mass reroll my gear and hopefully be able to survive better. right now despite all my gear being epic tier and having the best food available everything still 1-2 shots me.
there is an upgrade for it that you can enchant, called Ymirjord or something

For the armor pieces I was already focusing those mainly, the rerolling cost is the main problem but now I can try out riches if I can get my hands on it

Ofc you could go into the config and add a crafting recipe. Like say 10 ygg wood, 1 dust of X rarity, and 1 shard X rarity. And maybe some metals or a trophy or something
I know, sacrificing eikthyr is quite useless however as it only gives one of the lowest tier, and I was already doing bonemass for the occasional epic stone
Every boneless trophy should give 1 epic
If you get to the point of being able to farm yagulth and or its shards
You should get a steady source of legendaries
I recommend the arbalest /equivalent crossbow. And anything mythic enchant if you save the mats up will be worth it. Craft a blunt bolt from obsidian or a flame/frost bolt and u cruisin

also. ALWAYS reclaim from the workbench, not the enchant station, u get more total stuff back

No idea, but I melt down/augment anything that comes with Bulk
basically if you have +9% regeneration, you get like a small percentage of that as a "health" overflow
i personally just take more extra health and regen instead of the overflow
Btw. Dont forget about the runes. You can extract runes from anything. So if its a crappy item but a good effect, you can apply it onto anything of the same category!

I got a FAST Hearty sea serpent. 14 stars and it was 4x the size of my ship and was out pacing it with full sail. took 18 crossbow bolts to kill....nearly lost the ship

My skeletons actually survive 3 or 4 hits and dont die instantly, they do decent damage too.

I am running epic loot + cllc right now and for some reason whenever I kill fulings the gold they drop just gets deleted as soon as I put it into my inventory, I just cannot pick up their gold. I have no idea what could be causing this. I don't have any strange item modifiers as far as I know

I am trying to reset copper and tin nodes on my Dedicated server using Upgrade World. When I use the command "vegetation_reset rock rock4_copper" I get a message from the dedicated server that says "sending command" but nothing actually happens.
I am able to run this command on a single player world with no issues.
Anyone know what causes the unresponsive "sending command" message?
Or perhaps does anyone know of a better / different way to reset copper and tin on a dedicated server?

There are mod managers like r2modman, or bepin (independent) nexus mods, and a few others that have libraries you can browse. Or the libraries themselves (thunderstore or nexus)
I know there was a bepin build back when TGC shop was popular. But idk if its an updated version or not

What patches do people use when they combine epic loot with creature and loot control? I've ran the default epic loot mod with creature and loot control for a very long time now on this playthrough but it is just no longer survivable. I even pumped up the settings in the normal config file but it is not enough.
I am now in mistlands and the average enemy has like 3 stars and despite my gear all being things I grinded a long time for and is optimized, all in epic and legendary tiers of loot it is merely about 10-20% better than vanilla. Which is instant death against anything I am fighting.
I love brutal challenges in games and I struggled all this way but this has become too much, I am highly experienced in this game and have done all the prepping I could, nothing can make up for the power gap anymore.
I know epic loot got massively nerfed recently and is more balanced around vanilla now (it used to be insanely strong in the past), thus now I am wondering what patches people use to make up for it if they add mods with stronger enemies.
The epic loot modpage mentions epicpatches but I no longer see it in the thunderstore mod manager and it is also very old
Epic patches are outdated and not recommended.
Set your epicloot balance template to Legendary and delete the config files at Bepinex/config/Epicloot/baseconfig
That will set your epicloot configuration much closer to or the same as to what you might of had before.
Alternatively, you could tune down CLLC to a point that feels more fair to you instead of turning up the power
Thank you, I already put it on legendary tier unfortunately and I prefer to have a stronger and wilder playthrough against powerful mobs than nearly playing vanilla currently.
Also this is my first time really playing the mod myself, it is a fresh install, would deleting the baseconfig file really help in this case?
Unlikely.
Legendary is a pretty significant power increase, and it sounds like you are already there.
According to the popup I got normal is ~10% power increase and legendary is ~20% increase, which is decent but not enough to deal with this increase of difficulty. Although I did switch from normal to legendary halfway my playthrough, I hope this isn't something that can only be changed at the very start and did not apply.
It can be changed, but the increased power ranges will only apply to new item drops or rolls. So if you switched recently enough maybe you are still under geared.
That being said, I would suggest just tuning down CLLC, increasing star difficulty like that with the vanilla star scaling is very steep cliffs each star level and can be hard to balance at higher levels without excessive power increases
Unfortunately I switched quite a while ago, way before I had the gear I have now. It is nice to know that the switch did work though.

You could switch, you could also just wait until you are done, you are primarily missing out on balance changes and any of the new effects if you are running epic patches
existing equipment etc won't change, but new ranges of enchanting power etc will be the default for newly found or dropped items
What mod is the replacement for epic loot?
I think most people wither use epic loot or jewelcrafting so you could switch to that if you wanted. They dont play very similarly unless you've tailored your configuration a bit
So just keeping epic loot is easier

I want to increase how much grausten and ash wood I get but I don’t want drop rates from creatures to be modified so I can’t use the vanilla settings. ValheimPlus also doesn’t have settings for anything past the plains so I can’t rely on that either

Are mods worth it or do they ruin the game?
They are completely, 100% optional. The vanilla version of the game is perfectly enjoyable, but mods offer anything from minor quality of life enhancements to full reworkings of core gameplay. I would recommend playing vanilla first, at the very least.
All depends on playstyle.
Vanilla run first is always my suggestion .. then you can look at mods to 'enhance' areas of the game for you.
Mine are 100% worth it and designed to fix many of the inconveniences and incomplete areas of the vanilla game without breaking the core experience. Also some just fix outright bugs in the base game.
I mod to improve quality of life and to speed up getting basic resources since I don't have a ton of time to spend literal hours farming wood and stone, etc.
There was a valheim mod that lets you keep your food, stamina, and eitr for the full duration of the food, but i cant remember the name of it.

For some reason very often whenever enemies drop coins they just straightup get deleted whenever I grab them from the ground. I have no idea what is causing it. My 2 main mods are epic loot and creature level and loot control. Does anyone know what causes this?

the only 3 mods I have that add any content are epic loot, creature and level control and adventure backpacks. Besides that its just Qol mods like quickstack and azucraftyboxes

In EpicLoot, you now need to hold Alt to view the properties. Is there a way to revert it to how it was before, where you could just hover your mouse over the screen and see everything?
Speaking of epicloot, is there any point to having projectile speed modifiers on a crossbow?
Firerate can also be put on crossbows, but how does that work? I assumed it would reduce the reloading time but the quickdraw modifier already does that

render limits has force active ...that particular part doesnt work in multiplayer, and theres some possibility of any building that spans several zones being sliced down the border... but that might have been why jere disabled it in multiplayer

It adds a menu item in the game's main menu in case you ever need a mouse entrypoint to configmanager
it's colour scheme is easier to read, and nicer for dark-theme enjoyers.
it doesnt use a large range of font sizes so its use of whitespace is far more efficient, and doesnt have comically large words surrounded by tiny italicized descriptions that are hard to read.
It lets you reset almost everything in a subheading individually, or as a group.
Each has their own appeal I guess.

i wonder if the style components of the config are still interchangeable
or Blueprint... which is functional but clearly broken (ingame menus is fubar, and it produces materials from nowhere rather than pulling from chests like it's intended to do), and it has no server-synch, so anyone using it is effectively building in nocost mode and can paste pickables/otherwise unpasteable objects.
planbuild is similarly broken in that by being the (possibly) only mod still using ValheimModding-HookGenPatcher-0.0.4 it can produce some visual artifacts and other weirdness in other mods... iv'e wanted to use it on several dedicated servers for months, but every time i try to implement it theres some dealbreaking issue that make sme just drop it immediately.
It's been a few weeks/months since i used it but infinity hammer also gets weird after using the infinity hammer sometimes; with selections in the regualr hammer's build menu being offset from what you actully get when selecting them... (select one thing, get another)... but that only makes it the most tolerable of the 3, unfortunately you cant let a server full of randoms use that tool.
It's somewhat horrifying ot me that the one tool builders probably need most... all 3 of them are either broken or wildly overpowered for general consumption in multiplayer.
Does anyone know of a mod that replaces the Flametal texture with the now-called Ancient Metal texture? I like it more than the current Flametal texture but can't find anything to replace it
I find that the center alignment of the default on Azu’s makes my eye jump around and is highly difficult to read.
Also the color scheme doesn’t match vanilla Valheim. The pallet is future metallic instead of earth tones.
And the left panel is easier for my eye to trace because it’s left justified instead of centered on shudnal’s.

Also, I like that the left panel shows sections per mod on shudnals. I am not sure if azus does that or not, but I find that very helpful.

For the record. Mine is not game specific. It can be used on basically any Unity game. His cannot.
My “future metallic” is just basic Unity UGUI elements. Some are colored and styled.
Mine remains game agnostic while being more performant, more feature packed and no hidden information. All of his information is behind tooltips, extra panels, etc. His relies on multiple external packages to even work appropriately. Mine has better support for different monitor sizes. All of the colors can be configured on mine so modify to hearts content. Mine also successfully blocks Valheim inputs without having to patch directly into the game.
Zen saying “not sure if azus does that or not…” is just an indication of how easy it is to talk about something you don’t use.
My configuration manager closely follows that of the official devs who support multiple games with it. Use what you want but please don’t shit talk my work. Especially when some of that feedback was never given to me in the first place. The goals of the configuration managers are entirely different.

It's a pure client side mod so of course it does :p
obviously you have to specify the chunks, and in the correct format. Easiest way to get them is with zoneScouter
He did however say he disabled it due to damage it did to buildings, but i assumed that just meantin multiplayer. Maybe he removed it entirely and didnt remove the config option.
but i did, i run force_active on the actual spot of my farm, and saw that the coordinates are registered after checking it via config manager. i also tried expanding the chunk numbers in the setting too but to no avail

Looking at my code, I think in theory if you edit server cfg and client cfg and set same values to active, loaded and distant. It might work.
force_active might work as well if you manually edit the server cfg.

I think spawners require a player within 60 meters to work. So even with the chunk active it wouldn't do anything.

There's server side only mods that can improve the gameplay on Consoles but you cannot add new content on Console.

That would be if you for example hosted a server on your PC or via a service.

Does anyone know what "firerate" modifier does on a crossbow/bow when you have epic loot mod? You'd expect it to increase draw speed but "draw speed" is already an existing modifier, So does it do anything at all?
yes, infinity hammer has config settings for object health and physics
Every projectile weapon has a fire rate of how often it can fire- realistically you probably don't want to rapid fire bows unless you are 100 skill and can draw it down faster than you can actually fire it. Crossbows you would need something to allow multiple shots before reload, fire rate just reduces the cooldown between those shots.

I originally made that modifier for the staff of frost. The staff of frost shoots like a machine gun so the firerate modifier makes it shoot faster. It might be that the crossbow and staff of frost are the same category of item under the hood so that's likely why your seeing it for crossbow as well.
@boreal meteor Your issue is the config being so big.
The bigger the config, the longer it takes to load on Linux (specifically, Windows loads instantly).
I had this issue with my MagicalMounts with 1MB config, took 20 min to load on Linux servers.
I then split the config up into parts so like item.cs, piece,cs, creature.cs etc and it loaded in 30 seconds.
I then created a YAML system so all my configs are in YAML now with 1 file for each type of prefab.
So the MAIN config has all the gameplay settings and the YAML has like item, piece, creature and others.
This all started when Ashlands released, Linux servers got wrecked for some reason.
No idea why specifically Linux decided to take so long to load from big configs but it just does now.
It has nothing to do with big AssetBundles and such, those load as they should even on Linux servers.

@gaunt geyser Do you perhaps know if there possibly is a correlation between epic loot and coin drops from enemies being deleted as soon as I pick them up? Epic loot, CLLC and adventure backpacks are my only main mods besides some QoL stuff and for some reason all coins that drop from Fulings and sometimes some other enemies just get deleted as soon as I pick them up.
Which is strange because the coins do stay on the ground and I can see them and I get a popup that I added coins to my inventory, but they just vanish from existence as soon as I grab them.

You can enter resubscribe to it if you use a mod manager or simply redownload the config file and overwrite your own and it will work again.

hmm, i just started a dedicated with only bep and MaxPlayerCount installed, and joined it with a vanilla player. Not sure how i'd check what maxplayers is now set to, but i imagine its the default 20 of the mod. So I guess thats how you would do it. I didnt test crossplay however.
wow, performance is horrible with 3 players on a server. i can't imagine how terrible it would be with more than 10. Unless everyone is just logged into different areas of the world.

We had okay performance with 6-7, at 8+ it gets very laggy if all fighting a boss and all in the same area
hexedit was just an option ive seen, but as you say; its possible to run bepinex and serverside stuff, so azus mod works as far as i can see without actually checking maxplayercount.. so thats the simpler option - assuming crossplay plays nice
yeah, and its not jus tping that matters, ive seen some really surprising intermittent lag with a single 80 pinger, where a seeker paused and then instantly crossed a 5-10m gap to strike me, becasue the other guy had shot an arrow at it from some distance and (presumably) a zone away.
and im sure the servers that increase playercount have similarly abysmal lag when anybody gets near other players with sufficiently different pings or packetloss situations. to me seeing "60 pLaYeRs!!" servers pimping that is a bit of a joke, sure it runs fine when everyone is separate and building, but combine the wrong player sin one place, and cross zones a bit... not good
the Yagluth fight with 10 players and 15 lox was ... certainly something!
we had a max of about 15 wanting to play at a time, and only for short times, start of new map its usually more like 10-12 and stays under 8 pretty often, a good amount, just looking for something so I don't have up to 5 players waiting to get on mostly
and my sweet spot it still having like 4-6 on at a time several times a week even in Ashlands, which means you need more activity at the start
i have a theory that i think is technically sound; where any time we do a collective thing that can be constrained inside a single zone, like a boss fight or fuling village/crypt, i suggest that the person with the best ping enters the zone first, naturally on my serers thats me becasue i have a ~2ms ping between my pc, the router and the server via the ~2m of cat7 between those nodes on my LAN, that way if my client has to agree with the serer on anyhting it happens as rapidly as possible. As opposed to the 400 pinger haivng chunkmaster and everything being lerp central. It realy only works if people comprehend where the zone ends and dont constantly be crossing or outside it.

netlag in this game is mostly due to the distributed architecture. the zone is only as fast as the person who is hosting it. whoever loaded the zone first. if their pc or xbox is slow or connection is slow then everyone else is slow in the area with them. really strange net arch. server does nothing except relay messages.

You can expand the ring to unreasonable size and then click to reset but yeah.

Hello! I would like to know if it is possible to host a new world for my friends and be the only one installing mods. The people I wanna play with arent gonna bother installing mods at all, but I do remember liking some QoL mods from when I played years ago. Note that I just wanna share my world into multiplayer and not run or pay for a dedicated server or anything
Rule #1: Mods you run on your client, will not be seen by other players. But mods affecting the world will highly likely revert back to vanilla, if you left the world cell (you are in another place in the world). So if you have a mod, altering the number of chest slots, and fill that chest with stuff, the chest might revert back to vanilla when you're not around, destroying /discarding the stuff that is in the modded extra slots. So when you're returning to the chest, it will be modded again, but only stuff in the vanilla slots will be there.
I will recommend you check out ServerSide QoL on ThunderStore that you can install on the server, and everyone (Xbox and PC) will have accesses to modded content.
Also you can use Infinity_hammer tools.yaml for creating commands as buttons

@lost hemlock That should work. So long as they have the same server-side mods. Also; it will avoid potential errors/weirdness if ALL of their mods are the same as yours (client and server side).
That said, there are a couple of client- side mods that will get weird if you run them on a non-dedicated server.
If the mods are purely server-side (like ServersideQoL), only the host/dedicated server needs them, the other players don't need any mods in that case.
You need to check the mods you're running "server side", if any of them require that all client runs them, if the mod also are on server, to enable clients to connect. Many mods don't have that caveat.

If my friends and I decided to do another modded run that included the Deep North content mod, (MonstrumDeepNorth I believe is the name) when 1.0 officially releases, would the vanilla Deep North replace the mod, thus making it unplayable?

I have the "EpiclootTherzie" patch installed and it worked great so far but the patch mod completely stopped working for Deep North gear, only dropping wooden tools and meadows-tier gear.
You have to install Therzie's deep north mods to run the patch mod so I can only assume the compatibility should work.
Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?
I assume I might have to downgrade epicloot as the patch mod is 8 months old just like the rest of therzie's mods
i make a collection of mods that is aimed at polishing the vanilla experience and removing a lot of the bugs and pain points. plus adds a bunch of nice enhancments without straying too far from the original game's design goals. you can find it on thunderstore by searching for ZENHEIM. it is backwards compatible with vanilla games.

For the most part, you simply remove what mods you dont want, but it's always good practice to backup a world and character save before modding.
Very few mods break a world if you remove them so there's nothing to worry about.

I'm hoping this mod exists: When playing in the vanilla "free building cost" mode, deconstructing buildings gives no items back, which is well and good. But that limits early game access to some items because part of the loop is deconstructing ruins, which now give no items. The mod I want keeps the settings as-is for anything I built, but also gives items for structures that already exist in the world. Anything like that exist?

If the mod itself supports ServerSync which pretty much all of them do, you don't need to do anything.
If you're an admin on a server and edits the config, it will push that to everyone else.
As long as the "Lock Configuration" is ticked it's all good.

theres others, but assembling the pieces and putting them in the right place for them to work is a pita. The dll relies on specific relative locations to the textures in almost all cases, so thats tedious.
The stones ones are usually crap becasue the moment you hit an ore sized one it reverts to vanilla texture. Or the texture scaling goes nuts.
The piece ones are sort of ok, but you may find yourself mix and matching a lot, and ultimately its a waste of time unless you REALLY want HD.... i thought i did, but iturns out really dont.
Just having HD plants is as good as i was prepared to do, and ultimately i just dropped HD entirely, it's really not necessary.
Try turning all of the default cinematic/blur/bloom crap off for a while, the game looks pretty nice as it is.
These are symlinked directories with names intended to make it easier for me to understand what combinations i was using, so you will need to use your own brain to translate it for finding these on nexus, and then making them work. cjayride's is on TS too iirc, so that makes it easy to use in a generic modmanager that isnt vortex.

Hello, we split into teams with my friends and are playing modded Valheim. We're using the AllTameableTamingOverhaul mod and are looking for a mod that allows tamed animals to attack players outside the team. We didn't install a mod to split into teams. We just formed teams on our own. We're kind of playing PvP, and we think it would be more fun if the tamed animals also attacked. Is there a mod that does this?

mods that add assets like build pieces, weapons, items, containers of any kind, or ones that mess with inventory, or stack sizes can be lossy if you remove them and dont vanilla-fy everything (move inv into vanilla chests in vanilla stack sizes, and recycle armor etc), before you remove the mod.

That sounds accurate, you'll want to delete your steam valheim install and clean out the folder entirely, and switch to using a mod manager for the thunderstore, like R2 modman.
Vortex and nexus are not maintained for valheim unfortunately.

Azu Crafty Boxes isnt compatible with alot of mods i use all the other ones and ive tried alot of mods but thats the only oen that gives me a problem in code alot of the time
Name the mods it isn’t compatible with. It has a ton of compatibility patches in it for various container mods. If you can give me examples, I’ll fix it up better.
i cant get examples cause most the mods that werent compatible ive already deleted off R2 but i know it was some of the more popular ones cause those are the only mods i go after

Anyone using r2modman ever experience an issue where the program freezes for a few seconds when you try to export your mod list as a code? mine just freezes for a few seconds, my computer ramps up, and then it goes back to normal but I get no code

I gotta disagree with you. While I don’t personally use AzuCraftyBoxes as I prefer manual item management and he and I may have our differences. I would def recommend it to anyone that wants that style of gameplay. as Azu said, it’s by far the most compatible and feature rich craft from containers mod out there and he does a very good job to make sure it works with most other mods.
His mod is solid. But if you want an alternative method of item management you can use ZenSign
Middle clicking an item or tapping sign highlights all containers with that item. You have to do it manually. That is by design.

For anyone that uses the Armory, do some of the set bonuses seem a bit lackluster? Assassin's set for example... 1% damage and +1 to knives doesn't exactly sway me to use that set even if that's my weapon of choice
One thing you can do is using content editing mods like Expand World Data / Spawns / Events / Music or wacky database to print out game data
Though the mods can have errors too.

Sounds like you might have a conflicting mod or one that changes the logic on how many resources you have.

I think CLLC and SLS both support increased spawn settings. You could also likely use SpawnThat.
I know some higher difficulty servers frequently prefer 2x spawns.
Tuning the star levels that things tend to spawn as along with the number of spawns gives you some pretty good options I would say, but it ultimately comes down to preference.
I played with increased star ratings on enemies and it's just a slog. Not to mention that the Ashlands are basically impossible. I was looking into dropping thje difficulty to Easy and avoiding 2-star enemies with Creature Level and Loot Control, but have more enemies around to fullfil the power fantasy of hacking and slashing a horde of enemies

Both work a bit differently, no point in using both though. So if you've got CLLC you might as well configure it to increase spawn rates
Spawn_That seems to be what I'm looking for, but I'll see what I can do with CLLC. If it comes with spawn rates integrated, I'll get to that instead. The less mods to do one thing, the better
CLLC can pretty much anything, it's not exclusive to creatures but can do other stuff as well.
i use star level systems, and you can tweak it to be the exact level of difficulty you want. personally ive capped the stars at 4 and i tweaked the stats of 4 star enemies to be roughly 20% harder in hp and damage than normal game 2 stars. the funny thing is adding more stars (i think) makes starred enemies more common, so the game is still "harder." also you can make it so enemies farther from world start are more likely to have stars, again, to increase difficulty. even with my OP mods like valheim cuisine and wild weapons, i still have gotten killed quite a bit when an unlucky 4 star spawns but the game isnt completely impossible which was the goal. you can also tweak how much extra loot starred enemies drop, which also can help with the grind of the game which is admittedly a lot
you also can brick your game and make there be 20 stars enemies, but at that point the game just becomes totally impossible without being giga gamer god
one thing to note about SLS, it isnt 100% perfect about keeping your max level stars on every enemy. occasionally it will spawn enemies with more stars than it should. also, i think if you mine chitin with the mod your game crashes. still testing which mod i have does that, but based on the recent patch, im pretty sure its SLS

General perspective - How "safe" is adding server mods these days? When I started playing Valheim it was when it first came out. I put in a TON of hours with my husband. He had just finished many hours of building an in mountain base, went to log back in, and he had lost almost the entire thing. He was NOT happy lol and then we kinda stopped playing until the end of last year. We are really enjoying all the new content, however, the same QoL issues are there - like armor taking up limited storage space when on - and I want to give some Mods a try to make gameplay a bit less frustrating. HOWEVER - we are a bit nervous to risk losing game progress by glitching the game if we add any mods. What's everyone's recent experience?
Use Thunderstore, don't use V+, and do check your log for errors, and/or pay attention to if the mod says it is updated for the current version (combat update) and you should be fine.
Typically structure destruction like that is because you had something that changed structural support, and it stopped working or you had mods which added custom build pieces and those stopped working. You will always run into that kind of issue if you blindly start up the game after an update. You can avoid that by loading up a test character/world, checking your log etc when a valheim update happens and ensuring things are still working and not breaking.

They do tend to wander, even if you're on them, but should straighten out if you make them go a particular direction
It will act on its own when you don't have explicit control over it.
For my MagicalMounts, my MOUNT versions (you summon onto them via item) only moves with players control.
My Wild variants however will just do as they please so you have a choice to explicitly control them or just let them take you wherever.
So basically, when you control it you are in control, if you let go MonsterAI takes over.

Let me rephrase, when I want to build something I have to break down my workbenches and take them to the location where I am building something. What I am asking for is a mod that let's me make the object at the bench, then carry the finished object to the location it will be placed. All without moving or making more benches.
There are mods that modify workbench radius.
If I recall vanillas world modifier eliminates the need for workbenches when crafting.

If you want to have a really different experience with lots of added weapons and monsters, you might want to try Therzie Mods such as Warfare Fire and Ice
I also run a Valheim overhaul called Enigma Mode.
Its very different though. Doesnt add new things to the game. It uses things in the game in different ways.
If you want a "less predictable" Valheim experience then you might enjoy it

I was using antiarthritic crafting to make bronze. I chose the bronze x5 option and told it to make 5 sets. It only made 5 bronze total but used all the materials. lol
People seem to be interested in no map, no portals game settings. Mix that with a few vanilla+ style mods.

can anyone recommend a way to send messages to people on a server without having to launch the game and log in? it gets very tedious waiting to launch every time I need to do anything, which of course is because of mods making it take a few minutes for the game to load. I know the servercharacters mod has this capability but I think I need to launch a web server and all that to get it to work

you can try this for added challenge by tweaking the rules and streamlining the gameplay without diverging from the original game design goals. It's balanced. It's backwards compatible with vanilla so you can always add or remove parts as needed and it fully supports gamepad.
Out of the box it's configured for low-map + compass. You can view the map but it's dependent on your progression and you can not view it from anywhere at any time. Also if you do not keep the fires lit then the monsters can spawn inside your base. Winter can kill you.
Most of the mods in the modpack were written by me, so they all work together with no overlap or bugs. The mods that are not authored by me were curated for inclusion in the modpack to be a cohesive whole so that there is no issues of mod-conflicts and compatibility bugs. Everything is ready to go out of the box but also gives you access to a huge set of configuration options. Easy one-click and play.
You can layer other mods on top, but if you do you will increase your chances of mod conflicts and bugs. Try it first before adding hundreds of mods. I created it because i was tired of mod conflicts and i wanted everything to work together and also be high performance.

Discord Connector and Discord Control both allow that ❤️
They are really great mods for server transparency. Discord Control can be setup to have 2 way chat, so you can talk on discord to people in game.

It makes the server more active. People see that somebody is playing, and this makes them want to play.
Normally you have to logon to Valheim to check if somebody is playing, or see them talk about playing in discord etc.

My DiscordControl is for people who want to have a full setup without having to create their own bot etc.
Or if you have multiple servers then UltimateServerControll is the way to go.
Combine these with YouAreBeingLogged and nothing can get past you.

Never seen this before. Looks like the placement ghost is being recreated repeatedly which will assign it a random rotation each time. PlantEverything wouldn't do this as it doesn't patch piece placement in any way. You might want to examine your log for errors.

It's AzuExtendedPlayerInventory conflicting with BetterProgression.
Opening your inventory, closing it, and then
• trying to place an object will result in the spam of that collider_block error.
• trying to place crops/grass/cultivation with the cultivator will have that weird spinny behavior.
It was reported on the BetterProgression bug page almost 2 years ago.

Disabling the setting in BetterProgression that adds extra rows appears to solve the issue, but then the AzuExtendedPlayerInventory looks jank. The window isn't long enough for extra added rows enabled through theExtendedPlayerInventory mod.

ZenTargeting moves the HP to the top of the screen for the monster you have targeted. This is on by default for added immersion so that monsters are able to sneak up on you. Are you using that ? It has extensive config options for hp bar display.

- Do you want new pieces?
- Do you want vanilla compatibility?
- Do you want to craft from nearby chests?
- Do you want to change inventroy UI?
- Do you want to use a build camera?
Use whatever suits your particular needs

Sounds like they both do similar so makes sense they wouldn't work well together.

If you want to keep things strictly vanilla then SmartSkills.
If you want additional bonuses and behavior then ImpactfulSkills.
I just talked with ChatGPT again, and it suggested using ImpactfulSkills mod and removing other mods by SmoothBrain, like: Exploration, Tenacity, Endurance, Vitality, and Pack Horse.
Did it say why?
Nothing wrong with those mods at all.
Short and clear:
I suggested removing the other Smoothbrain mods (Endurance, Vitality, Tenacity, Exploration, PackHorse) because they stack passive bonuses on top of ImpactfulSkills.
What happens if you keep them:
Double stat scaling
ImpactfulSkills already boosts progression → Smoothbrain mods add MORE HP, stamina, damage, regen, carry weight.
Power creep
You become stronger than intended very quickly.
Balance loss
Combat, survival pressure, and preparation become trivial.
Redundant mechanics
Multiple mods doing similar “make player stronger” jobs.
In simple terms:
ImpactfulSkills = structured perk progression
Smoothbrain mods = raw stat boosters
Using both together = overbuffed character.
That’s why I recommended:
👉 Keep ImpactfulSkills
👉 Remove most Smoothbrain stat mods
👉 Keep only QoL mods (inventory, crafting, farming)
Clean, stable, balanced setup.

What is everyone’s favorite non-QoL mod? I have one called Goodest Boy. It allows you to tame German Shepherds that spawn in the Black Forest. I have 2. I have them stay at my meadows base so they don’t interfere in my combat or get hurt lol. Just fun pets to have.
QoL:
ZenRedecorate - move chests and other things around without destroying them
ZenUI - improves crafting UI so things are grouped and iconic instead of an unsorted list, plus simplifies tooltips, plus a lot of other nice features.
ZenSign - improves signs so you can attach items to signs and see the count in nearby containers. Tap a sign to locate the item.
ZenTargeting - lock the camera onto the monsters like Dark Souls or Zelda
ZenCombat - impoves a lot of combat related things
ZenHoverItem - vastly improves your cursor when pointing at things by providing icon info on your HUD.
ZenItemStands - make armor stands and item stands behave like containers, swap outfits easily.
ZenBeehive - make beehives open like containers.
ZenRecycle - make the obliterator return some, but not all, items when destroying stuff. balanced recycling. (also can smash items on the ground)
ZenDistributor - make carts push items out into nearby containers.
ZenUseItem - apply items to things directly from your inventory without having to put it on the 1-8 hotbar first.

There's a new one in the works that I'm excited AF for that is CLEAN AF.
ZenUI does it in a vanilla compatible way. I believe the basic inventory slots are enough so i don't alter inventory sizes because then it becomes non-compatible with vanilla. So instead i added a feature to designate slot position to a specific type (head, chest, legs, etc) that way when you equip it it always moves to the same position. keeps your inventory organized without breaking vanilla.
adding extra rows adds the potentional for item loss if the mod is removed (or breaks)

standard mapping of inventory item to visual slot
i was thinking of doing it in a vanilla compatible way where it would just show the character and the item equipped in each position without actually moving it to a new slot. that way you could see at a glance. but then i thought about it and there is only 6 items in vanilla so i decided that ZenUI's feature was good enough and maintained backwards compatiblility. Just assign a slot to a position in the inventory.
Azu does it in a mod-compatible way with AzuEPI, which works well. But i am mostly focused on vanilla-compatible stuff. Extra slots doesn't interest me very much because i feel that vanilla is already balanced. I understand though that when you add other mods which add lots of other extra mats that some people need extra slots.

Epicloot workes fine with the new update. Doesn't need an update. However you likely have other mods which are broken causing issues.
Note: their hotfix later today should fix a lot of the broken mods. There is a small fix needed in one of the valheim assemblies that breaks some mods

Mods do not auto update. You update them manually. When a new version of Valheim comes out you have to test your mods against the new version. Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don’t. If they don’t the mod author needs to update them. You can revert to the last version of Valheim if you want as well via the steam Betas section under the game properties.
Be sure to make world and character backups before updating Valheim. Once you update your world and character save files it’s usually not possible to load them in an old version of Valheim.

I have no idea. I just installed R2 yesterday - not sure how it works. Some mods worked yesterday - mods that give you new skills to train. Today they don't work. Every other mod works

How do I launch vanilla Valheim when Bepinex is installed standalone, no mod manager? I had it working on Linux but I forget how, and when I try launching valheim.exe on Windows it runs Bepinex.
moving the bep directory out of the valheim dir seems like an obvious thing to try

Every game update breaks some mods, takes time for mod authors to patch them. You can either wait for those patches, or revert to previous stable build.

There shouldnt be files there anyway, modmanagers dont do that, humans manually installing mods do... and bep wouldnt start unless it was laready in the bvalheim dir, so i'm just making an assumtion as to why it keeps loading even when you arent initiating the game from a modmanager
The BepInEx instructions explicitly state to put the files in the .../common/Valheim folder, are you saying it's possible to run modded with these files located outside of that folder?
yep., thats the normal way. the bepinex instructions disregard the fact that using a modmanagrer is the way most people use mods
on linux you can leve plugins in the val/bep dir, but not in windows
Maybe I'd use a mod manager if they weren't buggy as hell.
use gale or r2, not vortex
I only do manual because it's superior when making mods imo but for regular gameplay mod manager is nice.
r2 has screwed up my files too many times, never heard of gale. I'm happy with manual.

if the dir is there, windows will load any plugins present, its that simple
it didnt happe in linux becasue thats not how linux works
You sound like you're very frustrated right now. But be advised that r2modman and gale mod managers don't screw up files. Ever.
It's the mod manager's users that screw up files. There should be a clue in there somewhere about why you're the only one with that experience and everyone else is just fine.
if you want vanilla, move the bep out of val dir
if you want to use a modmanager, they dont alter the val/bep dir anyway, tjhey just pass an alternative patth/location... so if files are getiong messeed up its probably ecause you fight something you dont really understnd, and f it up yourself
So how come I don't have any problems with manual mod installations, only when I let another program handle them?
I'm not alone, I've seen other people complain.
Obviously, you're not letting the other program handle the files correctly.
